Last week HBO sports announced that the pay-per-view heavyweight title fight between Vitali Klitschko and Danny Williams registered a disappointing 120,000 PPV “buys,” approximately the same number as the November 13th heavyweight show at Madison Square Garden. HBO’s Ross Greenberg conceded that the heavyweight division “needs to be re-energized in 2005.” He then went on to add that “boxing needs a unified heavyweight champion to emerge and be recognized by the public as ’the man’.”
