Antillion takes care of Harris

In the main event, lightweights Tyrone Harris (23-5, 15KO’s) met undefeated Urbano Antillon (26-0, 19KO’s) in a ten round bout. The fight was even through the first three rounds but momentum was swaying in Antillon’s favor. Antillon seemed to land more and more flush shots and get through Harris’ shoddy defense. Come the fifth round, due to perhaps an accumulation of shots, Harris was floored twice. Managing to get to his feet both times, Harris was pinned on the ropes while Antillon landed a flurry to the body and upstairs which made referee Tony Weeks step in and stop the fight with 2:23 left in the round.

In the first bout of the night, in front of a small but, feisty crowd Marvin Cordova (20-1-1, 11KO’s) took on fellow super lightweight and crowd favorite Dennis Laurente (31-3-4, 16KO’s) in a tough, toe-to-toe battle. Both guys traded big shots from bell to bell but Laurente pulled off the victory by unanimous decison, 77-74 on all three cards.

The second bout was also in the super lightweight division, Ramon Montano (17-7-2, 2KO’s) battled Mark Melliguen (14-1, 10KO’s) in an eight rounder. Melliguen easily dominated the fight, winning by unanimous decision 80-72, 79-73, and 78-74.

The most exciting fight of the night came in the third battle where Juan Buendia (14-3-1, 8KO’s) took on Alfonso Gomez (19-4-2, 9KO’s) of Contender fame. This was an old school, knock em out, drag em out brawl. Both fighters were cut and bloodied from a series of headbutts but that did nothing to stop their “phone booth” style fighting. With bloodied shorts, both guys were head hunting coming down the home stretch trying to knock out the other guy, when Gomez decided to work the body and dropped Buendia instantly with a shot to the liver. Buendia was unable to recover giving Gomez the win by TKO with 1:07 to go in the eighth round.

Another crowd favorite, undefeated super featherweight Diego Magdaleno (9-0, 3KO’s) me the much taller Juan Santiago (7-2-1, 5KO’s) in a six rounder. Despite being dropped in the first, Diego regrouped and went on to look impressive as he won by unanimous decision 40-37, 39-36, and 39-37.
