Kotelnik stops Rees in twelfth
to capture Super Lightweight crown
By staff writer
Andreas Kotelnik scored a
twelfth round stoppage over reigning champion
Gavin Rees to capture the WBA Super Lightweight
championship at the International Arena in Cardiff,
Wales.
The fight was a close, nip
& tuck battle as both guys seemed to be
the aggressor at different times in the bout.
Rees looked winded at times but caught a second
wind and won some of the late rounds.
In the twelfth, both guys
came out hard with Kotelnik landing the cleaner
punches. A visibly spent Rees went down, which
was ruled a slip but the referee could see that
Rees was in trouble and stopped the bout.
Kotelnik of Germany via Ukraine
is now 29-2-1. Rees of Wales sufferers his first
blemish and is now 27-1.
