Martinez & Vazquez gain
wins in Panama
By Anson Wainwright
Panama City - In the main
event local Lightweight Ameth Diaz 24-7(18)
easily beat Nicaragua's Carlos Ramon Mairena
20-10-1(17) with a second
round KO in defence of his WBA Fedalatin &
WBC Latino titles. It also
helped Diaz 24 bounce back from a defeat last
November when Diaz lost
a WBC eliminator up at Light Welterweight to
Souleyman M'Baye. Diaz is
WBA#11 at 135 currently.
Former WBO Bantamweight Champion
Mauricio Martinez 35-8-1(23)
outpointed Journeyman Leopoldo Arrocha 9-11-2(6)
unanimously 98-93 &
98-92x2 the match was at Super Bantamweight.
At this stage of his
career Martinez who turns 33 later this month
appears to have seen
better days but he maybe able to gain one last
big fight.
In his second fight since
he returned from a ten month hiatus Roberto
"La Arana" Vasquez 26-2(19) stopping
Cesar Singo 21-4-1(12) in the
third round. Vasquez weighed a career high 118
while Singo was 115.
Vasquez is highly rated with the WBC #5, IBF
#8 & WBO #11 at Flyweight
where his future future seems to be where he'll
look to become a two
weight champion.
Ricardo "Maestrito"
Cordoba 32-1-2(21) kept busy with a KO at 1.47
of
the third over Franklin Solis 11-4-1(7). Cordoba
weighed 120 and can
certainly mix it with the best at Bantamweight
& Super Bantamweight.
He has two draws with WBA 118 champion Wladimir
Sidorenko & a points
win over current WBA 122 holder and countryman
Celestine Caballero. At
25 he the young veteran has plenty of years
in him. It could also be
argued that he is one of the best fighters in
Boxing today who haven't
won a world title.
After suffering a defeat
in an IBF Super Bantamweight eliminator to
Fernando Beltran Jnr. last October Jose Arboleda
23-3-1(9) bounced
back with a third round stoppage of overmatched
Victor Julio Salgado
17-13-1(14).
Luis Conception 12-1(9) won
the WBA Fedebol Super Flyweight title with
a fifth round KO over Luis William Singo Tenesaca
10-2-1(2).
Venezuela's Strawweight Carlos
Luis Campos 12-0(8) maintained his
unbeaten start to his career with an eight round
points win over
Michael Arango 7-7-1(6)
Also on the card Marcos Sune
stopped Isaac Montenegro at Featherweight
in the third. In two woman match ups Ambar Fajardo
won on points
beating Monica Acosta Siris over six also at
126. At Bantamweight Alys
Sanchez also won on points over four on her
debut against Kathia
Montuto.
