Q&A Giovanni "Aztec
Warrior" Segura
By Anson Wainwright
Mexico's Giovanni Segura
may only weight 108 pounds but he certainly
punches his weight and then some he's currently
19-0-1(15) and the WBA
mandatory challenger, he's also highly rated
by the other sanctioning
bodies he's #4 WBC, #3 IBF though the first
two position's are vacant
and he's also #3 WBO. It's the WBA title that
Segura will pursue he'll
head for France sometime in July at a date to
be announced. All that
stands in his way is 2000 Olympic Gold medallist
Brahim Asloum 23-2(9)
who won the title last time out when he narrowly
outpointed Juan
Carlos Reveco back last December.
He remains very humble to
both his fellow fighters and hasn't
forgotten his roots despite now living in Bell
Gardens, California
he's a loyal Mexican. Segura's best wins to
date are against Francisco
Arce KO1, Jair Jimenez KO4 & Former World
champion Daniel Reyes KO1.
Hello Giovanni,

Giovanni Segura - I am not fighting Edgar Sosa,
I am fighting Brahim
Asloum in Cannes, France for the WBA in July
on a date to be determined.
Anson Wainwright - What do
you think of the current World Champions at
108 WBC Edgar Sosa, WBA Brahim Asloum, IBF Ulises
Solis & WBO Ivan
Calderon?
Giovanni Segura - I think all the champions
in my weight class are
good fighters but I believe that I can beat
them all.
Anson Wainwright - Do you
make 108 easily or will you likely have to
move to Flyweight in the near future?
Giovanni Segura - Like all fighters I can make
weight with a little
hard work 108 but I would like to move to 112
in the near future.
Anson Wainwright - What can
you tell us about how you got into Boxing?
Giovanni Segura - I got into Boxing when I was
19 years old and
arrived in the United States (Los Angeles).
I was always attracted to
Boxing and it came natural for me to fight once
I started at an older
age.

you like to do when you're not fighting?
Giovanni Segura - When I'm not fighting I like
to spend time with my
family. But I am a gym rat so I never stop training!
Anson Wainwright - Who was
your Boxing hero's when you grew up?
Giovanni Segura - My boxing hero growing up
was Julio Cesar Chavez.
Anson Wainwright - What do
you consider your best performance so far?
Giovanni Segura - Francisco Arce would probably
be my best performance
because he was Jorge Arce little brother. Arce
had the biggest name of
my opponents.

a message you have for your fans?
Giovanni Segura - To my fans keep an eye on
me because I will beat
