GARY LOCKETT TO KELLY PAVLIK:
'I WILL FIGHT FIRE WITH FIRE!'
For
Immediate Release
Challenger Gary Lockett of
Wales said he will try to out-punch world middleweight
champion Kelly Pavlik on June 7, saying "...I
will fight fire with fire."
At a press conference in
New York City yesterday, Lockett -- 30-1 and
unbeaten the last 5 years -- said "...I've
always been able to punch hard and knock out
other fighters. And, like Pavlik did, I worked
my way through the top of the ratings with class
and dignity with a work ethic and not screaming
and hollering at other fighters. Pavlik and
I are both the same in that we are working-class
lads. We're two big punchers. We will be in
each other's faces at the opening bell."
Lockett, trained by Enzo
Calzaghe, is the WBO #1 mandatory challenger.
Pavlik, the WBC, WBO world
middleweight champ from Youngstown, added "...this
is my first real title defense. Lockett throws
a lot of punches and he throws him hard. He
keeps his hands up so I will have to figure
a way to break through that defense. I'm pretty
excited about all of this."
Pavlik vs. Lockett will be
at the historic Boardwalk Hall, hosted by Caesars
Atlantic City.
