Heavyweight sensation Odlanier
Solis remained unbeaten with a unanimous decision
win over 20-year-old Dutch prospect Harry Duiven,
jr. in Hattersheim on Saturday night. “La
Sombra” controlled the fight from the first
bell on and outboxed his opponent over eight rounds
taking his own record to 10-0-0 (6 kos) while
Duiven jr. dropped to 12-3-1 (10 kos).
Solis’ new coach Orlando
Cuellar, former trainer of world champion Glen
Johnson, was pretty impressed with the performance
of his new protégée.
“Odlanier showed that
he will become the dominating force in heavyweight
boxing”, stated Cuellar. “He’s
got enormous hand speed, throws great combinations
and wonderful body shots. We will only need to
make little adjustments in his style to make sure
that he will be heavyweight champion of the world
very soon.”
For Solis the fight against
Duiven jr. was merely a ‘warm-up’
for his next tough test against former world champion
Francois Botha.
“I think it was good
that I went the distance”, says Solis. “This
Dutch kid showed great heart as he just refused
to go down. Anyways I feel very well prepared
for Botha and I can’t wait to face him in
the ring.”
