Nearly fifteen thousand fans packed the Toyota Center in downtown Houston to support their hometown fighters as they try to regain their status as world class boxing champions.
Juan Diaz literally puts his lone loss behind him as he defeated the once top prospect Michael Katsidis in a twelve round brawl. Both fighters stepped in the ring with something to prove, as each was looking to rebound after their first defeat. Round one was a slow round as both fighters tested the waters and felt what each had to offer. Katsidis kept circle Diaz throughout the fight which was unusually compared to his normal aggressive style. The early rounds were close as both fighters did not want to back down yet Katsidis seems a little stiff and gets hit with the cleaner punches. Katsidis was cut early in round two and appeared to have been cut again in round four as his tender skin inflated with every punch the was landed on his face. With blood trickling and welts on his face Katsidis refused to quit and taunted Diaz to come forward in the eighth round. He was able to land some solid combination’s on Diaz and took the round. Just as it appeared that the tides may be changing Diaz out lands Katsidis in round nine, showing everyone that he was not about to let this fight slip away. Diaz ends up taking the victory by a controversial split decision. According to Comp Box Katsidis threw more punches in the bout but it was Diaz who land almost twice as many punches than his opponent.

Rocky Juarez was in for the fight of his life as he faced the tough Argentinean Jorge Barrios. Rocky again started this fight very slow and was being out worked by his opponent in the early rounds. Though it appeared Barrios was landing punches the most effective shots were coming from Juarez. In round three referee Rafael Ramos takes a point away from Barrios for low blows after only one verbal warning. Rocky seemed to be waiting to long to let go of his shots which is supported by comp box numbers that more than doubled Barrios’ punch count compared to Juarez. But it was the relentless determination of Juarez that would lead him to his victory. In round number six Rocky switches roles with Barrios and becomes the aggressor landing straight, clean shots on his busy opponent and momentarily stuns him. In round nine referee Ramos deducts another point from Barrios which seemed to upset Barrios as he attacked Juarez and catches him in the corner with a barrage of punches until the bell seizes his fire. Rocky seemed to be down on the score cards due to his opponents enormous activity but it was in the eleventh round that Juarez’ clean punching seemed to take effect in his opponent. The Houston native stayed in the middle of Barrios’ powerless punches and dropped Barrios to the canvas. Barrios now has blood running from his nose and mouth as the doctor steps in and stops the fight. “Rocky, Rocky” chanted by the crowed because the knew that their champion is back. Rocky ended the fight with a dedication to his late grandfather and thanks all of Houston for their support.
