Tomasz Adamek thrilled his adoring fans by stopping Jonathon Banks in round eight to retain the IBF and Ring Magazine cruiserweight title at The Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey
The fight started off well for Banks as over the first few rounds he fought at a measured pace and was effective in certain spots as Jabbing contests broke out over the first few rounds. Adamek punctuated round two as he landed a right at the bell that sent Banks back. Banks rocked Adamek in round four with a big left hook but the Detroit native could not capitalize.
Adamek started getting it going in round five as he worked the body in an effort to slow Banks down. Adamek seized momentum in round’s five and six as he work rate began to climb steadily. Adamek continued his percise assualt in round seven as he mixed in shots to the head and body and looked to be in complete control.
Banks made one last stand in round eight as he landed two hard rights that rocked Adamek once again as he seemingly had the champ hurt. By not following up, Banks window of opportunity slammed quickly as Adamek landed a huge right inside that floored the challanger much to the delight of the screaming fans. With Banks in serious trouble, Adamek finished the show in championship style by jumping all over Banks and landed vicious shots in the corner. Referee Eddie Cotton stopped the bout just as Banks was dropping the floor for a second time.
With the win, Adamek, 199 lbs of Kilowice, Poland makes the first defense of his crown and is now 37-1 with twenty-five knockouts. Banks, 200 lbs of Detroit is 20-1.
At the time of the stoppage the three judges ringside had the bout 68-65 and 66-67 twice for Adamek.
“I changed my tactic,” said Adamek after the fight, “and began to land body punches that changed the fight. I have a lot of respect for the right hand of Johnathon Banks but my trainer (Andrzej Gmitruk) told me to be patient, not to rush in and my time will come.”
Giovanni Lorenzo scored an explosive one punch knockout over Dioniso Miranda at 2:48 of round two of a scheduled twelve round IBF Middledweight Elimination boout.
Lorenzo shook Miranda with a little left and a moment later landed a huge right on the chin that sent Miranda down for then ten count.
Lorenzo, 159 lbs of New York is now 27-1 with nineteen knockouts. Miranda, 159 lbs of Miami is now 19-4-2.
Henry Crawford remained undefeated by dominating Kennan Collins over six rounds in a welterweight bout.
Scores were 60-53, 60-54 and 60-54 for Crawford, 147 1/2 lbs of Patterson, NJ and is now 21-0-1. Collins, 147 1/2 lbs of Reading, PA is now 19-3-2.
In an upset, Don Mouton scored an eighth round stoppage over one-time prospect Jerson Ravelo.
Ravelo controlled the action early as he uhsed his length and body attack. Mouton rocked Ravelo in round four and five with hard right hands. Ravelo steadied himself and was consistant for the next couple rounds.
In round eight, Mouton floored Ravelo with a right hand that sprawled Ravelo into the ropes. Mouton finished off Ravelo with a vicous three punch combination that launched Ravelo into the ropes and the ultimatly the ground and referee Benji esteves stopped the bout at forty-nine seconds of round eight.
Mouton, 164 lbs of Houston i snow 8-3-1 with seven knockouts. Ravelo, 165 lbs of Patterson, NJ is now 19-4.
Good looking prospect, Jeremy Bryan remained undefeated with a workmanlike six round unanimous decision over Osvaldo Rivera in a battle of unbeaten Jr. Welterweight affair.
Bryan was too fast as he landed some nice power punches over the first foour plus rounds and coasted down the stretch to win by scores of 60-54, 60-54 and 59-55.
Bryan, 142 lbs of Patterson, NJ is now 9-0. Rivera, 143 lbs of Bronx, NY is now 2-1-1.
Jesse Lubash bloodied and battered Chucky “T” by scoring a second roiund stoppage in a scheduled six round Welterweight bout.
The first round was competitive with Lubash gtting the better. Kubash landed a right and then a flurry that bloodied the nose of “T” and the referee administered a standing eight count. The fight was ended moments later as Lubash landed a couple more blows and cornerman Billy Briscoe saved his brother in law fromany more damage.
The end came at 1:22 for Lubash, 145 of Pittsburgh is now 10-0 with six stoppages. “T”, 143 lbs of Philadelphia was making his first start in four years is now 25-10-1.
Anthony Flores scored a Unanimous decision over Ikem Orji in a battle of undefeated Lightweights.
Flores controlled the action as Orji charged in with his southpaw stance.
Scores were 58-56 on all cards for Flores, 133 lbs of Philadelphia who is now 7-0. Orji, 143 lbs of Laurel, Md is now 4-1.
