Fruitland, Maryland- Just a few weeks ago Fernando Guerrero (12-0, KOs 11) dominated Ernesto Zemora (16-17, KOs 12) via second round knockout. Now he is ready to swap leather again.
In front of host of locals, media and former boxers Guerrero announced that he will do battle on February 6th at the Wicomico Youth and Civic Center in his hometown of Salisbury, Maryland. The bout will be a part of ESPN’s “Friday Night Fight” series. His initial opponent, Gabriel Rosado (10-2, KOs 2), has dropped out of the fight leaving Team Guerrero to promote the tussle against the always dangerous TBA (to be announced).
Manager Hal Chernoff said the fight could be an 8 or 10 round affair, depending on the opponent and contract. Guerrero chimed in, “it’s not going 10”, smiling widely as if to predict another knockout. When asked about the difference between fighting at home versus away Guerrero referenced the lack of fans in the seats for a previous fight in Tennessee stating he had to “imagine a lot of people around me”, his previous fight in Salisbury his bout drew a sell out crowd of 6,000.
While Guerrero is the local draw and the co-main event, the marquee match up will pit Yusaf Mack (26-2-2, KOs 16) against Chris Henry (23-1, KOs 18) in a 10 round with the NABF/NABA titles on the line. Also appearing on the card will be Philadelphia’s Farah Ennis (8-0, KOs 4) and Shawn Porter (3-0, KOs 3). Fellow Olympian Dominic Wade is rumored to be a late addition to the card and this being professional debut remains a possibility.
Tickets will range in price from $15-100 and will be on sale this week. They will be available via the box office Monday-Friday or online at wicomicociviccenter.org. Last time Fernando Guerrero appeared in Salisbury the event was sold out, so buy your tickets early.
