James Stevenson: Now It’s My Time!
Hello James, welcome to 15rounds.com
You are fighting Friday in Maryland against Manuel Guzman. What can you tell us about this fight & your expectations?
James Stevenson: I heard he is a good fighter and he has never been knocked out. He has fought some tough fights and I am training extra hard. As long as I can do what I gotta’ do, I’m not worried.
Tell us about your team, who is your manager, trainer and do you have a promoter?
JS: I am managed and trained by James Hogan. My promoter is Jake Smith of Baltimore Pro Boxing.
Looking at your 8-0(8) record your clearly a puncher, what is your favorite shot? What can you tell us about your other skills?
JS: I honestly don’t have a favorite punch. I can box, brawl, whatever so I have all of the tools a boxer can ask for.
How did you get into Boxing?
JS: It is something I always wanted to do. I was always physical. I saw a sign for a boxing gym one day, walked in and told the guy I’d come back tomorrow and train. Only two weeks later, I had my first amateur fight and won by knockout.
Tell us a little about yourself, what you like doing away from boxing etc
JS: I am a married guy so I spend most of my time with my family. I have a wife, and three step kids. I work at Giant Warehouse and have been here during the last 8 ½ years. I work 5:30 in the morning to 1 pm. I like to have fun as well when I am not training.
Your at Welterweight, it’s a very strong division, what do you think you can achieve?
JS: A lot of things! My skills can take me far in this game as long as I train hard. I have the right people behind me and have been taking the right fights. I think I can make it farther than anyone in Baltimore. Vincent Pettway had his turn so did Hasim Rahman and now it is my time!
Have you sparred with any of the top guys at Welterweight or ranked contenders, if so how did you find it?
JS: I sparred with (former 140 lb champion) Demarcus “Chop Chop” Corley.
Who was your favorite fighter growing up?
JS: Mike Tyson. He had great movement and was so strong with his punches to the body and the head. Muhammad Ali as well, he was so smart.
Finally is there anything you want to say?
JS: I will not let the people down. I am going to do what I have to do put my city on the map. I love boxing and won’t stop until I each the top.
Thanks for your time James, keep’em sleepin.
