
Hot shot prospect, Yuriorkis Gamboa continued to show the flaws they may keep from being one of the greats as the gifted Cuban scored a tenth round stoppage in the final scheduled round of a Featherweight bout despite being dropped for the third time in four fights in his bout with Roger Gonzalez in Primm, Nevada.
Gonzalez landed a perfect overhand right that dropped Gamboa early in round two. Gamboa quickly rose to his feet and was not in trouble for the rest of the fight as ha applied constant pressure until he landed a flurry of punches that knockout out Gonzalez’ mouth piece late in the final round. It was then when referee Robert Byrd stopped the bout at 2:12 of round ten.
Gamboa, 126 lbs of Miami will now fight for a world title with a record of 13-0 with eleven knockouts. Gonzalez, 127 lbs of Chino, Ca is now 27-3.
Heavyweight Odlanier Solis remained undefeated by stopping Kevin Burnett in round eight of a scheduled ten round bout.
Solis used his decisive hand-speed advantage to have Burnett in trouble throughout, especially in rounds two and four as blasted Burnett with multi-punch barrages. The end came in round eight when Solis looped a right that rocked Burnett and a few punches later referee Jay Nady called a halt to the action at 2:00 of round eight.
Solis, 259 1/2 lbs of Miami is now 13-0 with nine knockouts. Burnett, 268 lbs of Miami is now 13-2-1.
Cuban export Erisland Lara made short work of Rodrigo Aguiar in one round of a scheduled four round Jr. Middleweight bout.
Lara landed a hard jab-straight left combination that dropped Aguiar at the end of the frame.
Lara is now 3-0 with two knockouts. Aguiar is now 5-3
