WBO Super Flyweight champion José “Carita” López (38-7-2, 32KO’s) is set to make the first defense of his recently acquired belt against “Marvelous” Marvin Sonsona (13-0, 12KO’s) of the Philippines. The Puerto Rican veteran and the Filipino prospect are set to meet September the 4th at the Rama Casino in Ontario, Canada.
For the challenger, it will mark the first time he will fight outside of his homeland while the champion had unsuccessfully attempted to gain belts in California, Nevada and Argentina and has fought throughout the United States, in Spain and in the United Kingdom. Ivan Rivera of PR Best Boxing (Carita’s promoter) said he is extremely pleased with the location being neutral to both fighters and expects a great fight to take place.
