Philadelphia, PA: Roberto Acevedo (8-1-0, 5 KOs), the 27 year old sensation from Puerto Rico, who stunned the crowd at Resorts International Casino & Hotel with the first round knockout of Ilshat “The Sherriff” Khusnulgatin on January 24th, will make his Main Events debut on Friday, April 4th at the Liacouras Center in Philadelphia, PA against Lee Campbell (6-0-0, 3 KOs), 36, of Laurinburg, NC. In addition to making his Main Events debut, Acevedo will also make his Philadelphia debut.

Roberto is a fighter who has defeated all the odds. Doctors told him on two separate occasions (once after he suffered three gunshot wounds as the victim of a drive-by shooting and once after he was hit by a drunk driver) that he would never fight again. He came back after both injuries to then turn pro a few years later.

His opponent, Lee Campbell built up his undefeated record almost exclusively in his home state of North Carolina. Only one of his fights took place elsewhere, his last fight, a majority decision win over Anthony Mack at Fitzgerald’s Casino and Hotel in Tunica, MI on August 24, 2013. This will be his first fight in the northeast.

Acevedo is very excited to make his Main Events debut, “I am very happy and positive with all the work that is being done in the gym for this fight. After my last fight I got back in the gym only two days after returning to Puerto Rico. I want to thank my new promotional banner Main Events and my manager Free Agent Boxing for these new opportunities.” He also added, “Regarding my opponent we know very little as there was a last minute change. Now we will be doing the necessary changes to bring another victory to Puerto Rico. Team Acevedo all the way!”

Roberto is managed by his brother Jose, who said, “Roberto is a future world champion in the making. He is back with his amateur trainer for the past year and has made several very strong improvements. In his last fight he showed the boxing world that he’s a fighter to keep a close eye on. He is not impressed or overwhelmed by records. Roberto is a hard worker; he deserves and is working hard for what is coming his way. We are very happy with the fast and steady move that Main Events has in plan for him.”

Main Events’ CEO Kathy Duva said, “Roberto scored a huge upset win over Ilshat. When the spotlight was on him, he really stepped up and that’s what we look for in fighters. We’re putting him in with an undefeated opponent again and I can’t wait to see what he does this time.”
