Q & A with Shawn Estrada

Los Angeles native Shawn Estrada fought at last years Olympics for America and has gone 6-0(6) so far as a pro. He made a bright start to his pro career fighting once a month for the first six months of his fledgling career with all but one of the wins being a first round KO. However the 24 year old of Mexican descent injured his shoulder and hasn’t fought since May. He makes his much anticipated return to action this Saturday in Temecula, Ca on the undercard of John Molina-Martin Honorio.

Hello Shawn, welcome to 15rounds.com

Anson Wainwright - You turned pro late last year, since then you’ve gone 6-0(6) how have you found the pro’s?

Shawn Estrada - I like the pro’s better slower pace, smaller gloves and you get paid.

Anson Wainwright - You haven’t fought since May what has been the reason for this and when do you hope to be back in action next?

Shawn Estrada - I’ve had a pinched nerve in my left shoulder. I am 110 percent ready to fight on November 28 Pechanga Resort and Casino in Temecula, California.

Anson Wainwright - Tell us about Team Estrada who is your manager, trainer and promoter?

Shawn Estrada - My manager is Bravo MGMT, trainer Rodrigo Mosquera, and promoter Goossen Tutor.

Anson Wainwright - You fought for America at last Summer’s Olympics. What can you tell us about the experience?

Shawn Estrada - It was the best experience of my life representing my family and country.

Anson Wainwright - You lost to Britain’s James Degale in the second round. How good do you think Degale is? A lot has been made of him in Britain?

Shawn Estrada - I think his a good amateur boxer but I don’t think he’ll be a good pro hope someday we can meet in the pro’s.

Anson Wainwright - What can you tell us about your amateur career what titles and honours did you receive? What was your final record?

Shawn Estrada - I’ve won lots of amateur titles but the one that counts was going to the Olympics. My record was 130-18.

Anson Wainwright - Have you sparred with any of the current top guys at Middleweight or Super Middleweight if so how did you find it?

Shawn Estrada - I’ve sparred with top Middleweights. Including Fernando Vargas, Sergio Mora, Antonio Margarito & Alfredo Angulo. I’ve learned a lot and also got lots of confidence knowing I can hang with them.

Anson Wainwright - Growing up in East L.A how did you first come into contact with Boxing, can you tell us about the early days in your life?
