Over the last few years fighters out of the former Soviet Union have come to the fore in the Heavyweight division. However while they currently have all four main world champions they need new fresh blood to back the older guard up to maintain there dominance. One of there best hopes is Vyacheslav Glazkov who underlined his obvious ability winning bronze at the 2008 Olympics as well as a Silver at the 2007 World Championships. He made his debut in the paid ranks in July and will be back in action on the eve of is 25th birthday. Here’s what he had to say
Hello Vyacheslav, welcome to 15rounds.com
Anson Wainwright – You made your debut in July, what can you tell us about the fight?
Vyacheslav Glazkov – Yes, indeed, July 2, I had my first fight as a professional against the Turks Ozcan Centinkaya. Turkish athlete in professional boxing has held 21 fights, 15 of them he won, including 9 knockouts. This is an experienced boxer, so I was tuned to a fight at 100%. The fight began in my usual manner; I worked hard with my left hand, holding an opponent at a distance. In the middle of the first round I took a left lateral strike my opponent in the jaw, after which he was nearly on the floor. Then he pressed and almost ceased to attack, and I continued to inflict severe blows to the head and body, forcing the opponent to retreat and close. By the end of the fourth round, he could barely stay on his feet. As a result, a unanimous decision, I scored my first victory in the professional ring!
Anson Wainwright – When will you be back in action?
Vyacheslav Glazkov – I plan to hold a second battle on October 16 in Moscow from Kazakhstan Atoev.
Anson Wainwright – What can you tell us about the difference’s fighting pro from when you were an amateur?
Vyacheslav Glazkov – I like training process. Professional boxing differs from the amateur that you yourself with your coach can select the optimum load for each fight, and prepare for him directly.
Anson Wainwright – Your turned pro was this always your intention?
Vyacheslav Glazkov – Yes, I’ve been planning to become a professional since childhood. Amateur boxer gave me a good school and quenching and served as a springboard to move to the professionals. Professional boxing has always attracted me and liked.
Anson Wainwright – Can you tell us about some of your amateur career & what titles you won?
Vyacheslav Glazkov – I was a world champion among the students and the bronze medallist of European Championship.
Anson Wainwright – What current Professional Heavyweight have you fought with?
Vyacheslav Glazkov – In amateur boxing I met with Denis Boytsov, who is now successfully performs in the club Universum box promotion, then I won.
Anson Wainwright – How did you get into Boxing?
Vyacheslav Glazkov – My friend brought me to the section of the box in the age of nine; I started to train and showed good results. I won all the competitions, in which I took part. So competitions on its importance grew bigger and bigger, and reached the highest amateur competition – the Olympic Games, where I took third place. Unfortunately hand injury received in the fight for access to the semifinal did not allow me to continue to fight for the gold medal, so i won the bronze medal.
Anson Wainwright – What Boxers were your hero’s growing up?
Vyacheslav Glazkov – There are a lot of good boxers, but I was impressed such as Oscar De La Hoya, Felix Trinidad and Lennox Lewis.
Anson Wainwright – What do you like to do with your free time?
Vyacheslav Glazkov – Apart from boxing I like to spend time with my family, my wife Elena and our little daughter Alina, who was born recently, I love them very much, they give me the strength to reach new heights!
Anson Wainwright – Your Ukrainian like the Klitschko Brothers, do they give you advice? Or help you at all?
Vyacheslav Glazkov – While the advice of the Klitschko brothers did not have to apply. We had business relations with them concerning my transition to the professionals. They offered to sign a contract with K2 Promotion, co-owners of which they are, but better offer came from promoter German Titov, with whom I now work.
Anson Wainwright – What are your goals in Boxing?
Vyacheslav Glazkov – My goals are the highest, because, as if not to set high goals you will get nothing. I want to become a world champion in one of boxing versions, and then combine all the belts and become the absolute world champion on all versions.
Thank you for your time Vyacheslav
