SALISBURY, MD- Elite amateur Shawn Porter will be making his pro debut this Friday, October 3rd when he takes on fellow first time professional boxer Mike Wyatt. The bout will be a part of the ShoBox card, but this match is not scheduled to be televised.
As an amateur Porter made quite a name for himself as a former World Golden Gloves champion and National Golden Gloves Champion amongst a litany of other accomplishments. He also recorded victories over Fernando Guerrero and Dominic Wade as well as 2008 Olympians Demetrius Andrade and Shawn Estrada.
Porter’s manager and father, Ken, is pumped up and said of his son’s debut, “We trained like it was a championship fight!”
The card features former World Boxing Council (WBC) youth welterweight champion “King” James De la Rosa (17-0, 12 KOs), taking on Tim “Pit Bull” Coleman (14-0-1, 3 KOs). The co-feature will have local prospect Fernando Guerrero (9-0, 9 KOs) swapping leather with middleweight Tyrone “TT” Watson (7-0, KOs 3). These bouts will be broadcast live on Showtime across the nation at 11pm.
Tickets are going fast and range in price from $15 to $100. They are available at the Wicomico Civic Center box office from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. and online 24/7 at wicomicociviccenter.org. You can still order online and pick the tickets up at the will call box office.
