
40-year old Heavyweight James “Lights Out” Toney made his return to the ring by scoring a 12 round split decision victory over Fres Oquendo, Satuday night at the Morongo Casino Resort & Spa, in Cabazon, Ca. Judges scored the contest 115-112 and 114-113 for Toney. One judge scored the bout in favor of Oquendo with the score of 116-111.
Most ringside observers believed the ever-crafty Toney won convincingly. Toney improves to 71-6, 43KOs, while Oquendo falls to 29-5, 18KOs.
In the preceding bout, 2004 Olympic gold medalist and current super middleweight standout, Andre Ward, improved his untarnished record to 17-0, 12KOs with a convincing stoppage victory over Esteban Camou – now 23-5 – at 2:46 of the third round.
Ward was easily controlling the contest with his combinations when referee Pat Russell finally brought a halt to the contest.
Philly’s very own “Fast” Eddie Chambers scored a unanimous decision victory over Cisse Salif in an 8-round heavyweight contest. Chambers won in convincing fashion with the scores of 79-72 twice, and 79-73.
Chambers improves to 33-1, 18KOs. Salif falls to 23-12.
2008 US Olympian Shawn Estrada improved to 2-0, 2KOs with the destruction of one Shaun Spaid (3-3) at :43 of the very first round.
Heavyweight Malik Scott continued his winning ways with a unanimous decision victory over Raphael Butler through eight rounds. Scott improves to 32-0, 11KOs, while Butler falls to 34-8. Judges had it 80-72, 80-72 and 79-73.
