Former Junior Middleweight Title Challenger López to Meet Martínez on Special Thursday Edition of ESPN Friday Night Fights and Noche de Combates

The special Thursday, April 24 edition of ESPN Friday Night Fights presented by Corona Extra and ESPN Deportes’ Noche de Combates presentado por Corona Extra will feature former Junior Middleweight title challenger Josesito López (31-6, 18 KOs) and Aron Martínez (19-2-1, 4 KOs) in the 10-round Junior Welterweight main event.

Thursday’s show, from the Agua Caliente Casino in Palm Springs, Calif., will air live at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN2 and ESPN Deportes. Both shows will also be available on computers, smartphones, tablets, Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, and Roku via WatchESPN. The card is presented by Goossen Tutor Promotions.

Commentators:
New Picture (7)Joe Tessitore will be ringside with Teddy Atlas describing the action for ESPN2, while studio host Todd Grisham (@GrishamESPN) will present all the latest boxing news and highlights. Delvin Rodríguez and Pablo Viruega will call the fights for Noche de Combates (Fight Night) on ESPN Deportes, while Leopoldo González and Claudia Trejos will anchor the studio. Bilingual reporter Bernardo Osuna (@osunaespn) will present live interviews and reports for both shows.

Main Event:
California’s López is coming off an eighth-round technical decision win over Mike Arnaoutis, while Martínez, also from California, scored an eight-round majority decision win over Albert Herrera in his last outing.

“I’ve gotten to see Aron Martínez fight a couple of times, we’ve gotten to see each other quite a bit. So we know what we bring to the table, López said. “He’s a tough fighter and I’m expecting a tough fight. He comes to fight, so I’m excited for that.”

Victor Huerta, Martínez’s trainer, said of Friday’s fight, “Aron can hit, and I think we’re going to surprise people with how strong he’s going to be in this fight. He’s real relaxed right now, and I’ve never seen him this strong before. He’s really concentrated on this fight.”

Co-Feature:
Friday’s 10-round co-feature will pit undefeated Light Heavyweight Thomas Williams Jr. (16-0, 11 KOs), against former Light Heavyweight and Super Middleweight title challenger Enrique Ornelas (34-8, 22 KOs). In his last outing, Washington D.C.’s Williams, son of former Heavyweight veteran Thomas Williams, scored a first-round TKO win over Cornelius White on ESPN Friday Night Fights. California’s Ornelas is looking to continue his winning ways following a seventh-round TKO win over Isaac Mendez.
