Former Jr. Welterweight contender Emanuel Augustus is clinging to life after being shot in the back of the head in Baton Rouge, Louisiana according to Dan Rafael of espn.com.
Augustus, a junior welterweight who used to go by Emanuel Burton, grew up in Baton Rogue and, according to The Advocate newspaper there, he was shot just a few blocks from the gym where he still sparred sometimes. The Baton Rouge Police Department is investigating the shooting.
The Advocate quoted Chris Singleton, a Baton Rogue boxer who sometimes trained with Augustus, as saying, “I just know he got shot in the back of the head. And he’s on life support right now.”
