After ten hard fought rounds judge Esa Lehtosaari (Finland) scored the bout 98:92, Fabian Guggenheim (Switzerland) had it 96:93 and David John Irving (Ireland) saw it 96:94, all in favor of the 30-year-old champion. It was Farias’ 22nd win in her 23rd pro fight while Svensson suffered her first loss after 15 straight wins.

“Lightning” strikes in Zambia – Christina McMahon upsets Catherine Phiri to claim the WBC interim bantamweight championship
Christina McMahon is the fighting pride of Ireland. The 40-year-old “Lightning” outworked local hero Catherine Phiri on Saturday night in front of 3,000 enthusiastic fans in Lusaka, Zambia, to win the WBC Female Interim World Bantamweight Championship. In a close fight McMahon did enough to upset former Silver champion Phiri and earn a well deserved majority decision win. One of the judges scored the bout even 1t 95:95 while two judges gave the nod to McMahon (97:94 and 96:95). The Irish veteran moved to 7-0 and is now in line for a unification bout with World Champion Yazmin Rivas. Catherine Phiri suffered her first loss in her 11th pro bout but will surely recover from this setback and start another run for the world title soon.
