James Smith backs out of “Fight Night at the Horseshoe: The Black Wednesday Battle” bout with Johnny “Wite Boi” Determan

Chicago, IL, Monday, November 25, 2013–On Sunday, November 24, Detroit super flyweight “Machine Gun” James Smith (7-0, 5 KOs) informed Hitz Boxing that he would not be able to make his contracted weight of 117 lbs for his fight with knockout artist Johnny “Wite Boi” Determan (7-0, 6 KOs) of Omaha, NE. This battle, between two fighters with perfect records, was to be a part of Bobby Hitz’s talent rich “Fight Night at the Horseshoe: The Black Wednesday Battle” on Wednesday, November 27 at 7:00 PM in Hammond, IN.

“Well I’m disappointed that it came to this. I was more than ready to shut his mouth, He’s a bum and unprofessional. I don’t want to share the same ring with him because he don’t deserve it,” said Determan. “I hope he enjoys his Thanksgiving and is thankful that he didn’t get in ring with me.”

In a November 14 conference call promoting their Smith claimed he was at weight and ready to go.

“I am in tip top shape. I’m ready to go, we can fight tomorrow,” said Smith. “I’ll make weight and everything.”

This is the second time that Smith has withdrawn from a fight with Determan, who has had 15 opponents back out of fights they had agreed to. In September of this year he backed out of a bout between the two unblemished fighters citing a leg injury.

“James Smith’s word and signature are worthless. I am shocked by his unprofessionalism,” said Bobby Hitz. “Last week I praised him for taking this fight, but he has to realize that he has to follow through and live up to the commitment he made. He disrespected the sport of boxing with this second withdrawal. He should be ashamed of himself and reconsider if he has what it takes to be a boxer.”

After Smith’s manager informed Hitz Boxing that 122 lbs was the lowest he could get, Determan agreed to fight him at that weight only to see Smith decline the heavier weight.

During the call Smith bragged about being Detroit and representing Kronk Gym, which was led by the late legendary boxing trainer Emanuel Steward.

“Smith needs to understand the legacy he claims to represent when brags about being from Kronk as he did in the conference call,” said Mike Cericola, Hitz Boxing’s director of boxing. “Emanuel Steward represented the best of boxing, Smith represents the worst of boxing.”

Team Determan worked hard to get Johnny in shape for this fight and they shared their frustration following Smith’s withdrawal.

“I am sick that Johnny has trained so hard for this wanna be fighter. Not once but twice he has pulled out on us,” said John Determan. “Everything happens for a resin and I believe God was protecting him from being hurt. Johnny would have hit him so much he would have thought he was surrounded.”

Determan’s trainer, JB Hurd, is ready to move past Smith and move on to the next challenger.

“I’m only disappointed for Johnny. He doesn’t just claim to be a boxer he is a true boxer. He was ready for this and will be ready for the next one,” said Hurd. “For the other one, who’s name I won’t mention because he ain’t worth it, he’s not a pro boxer, he’s not even a real man, and he’s not worth anymore of Team Determan’s time.”

Juan Carlos Gomez and Ismail Özen win in Hamburg, Germany

Former WBC cruiserweight champion Juan Carlos Gomez continues his successful comeback at his old weight. “The Black Panther” scored a lopsided unanimous decision win against overmatched journeyman Jindrich Velecky in front of 2,000 fans at the CU Arena in Hamburg, Germany, on Saturday night. Gomez dominated the fight from the opening to the final bell and connected at will with single shots as well as nice combinations. However, the 40-year-old Cuban defector couldn’t finish the tough Czech who managed to survive eight rounds.

Local hero Ismail Özen outworked late substitute Vladimir Fecko over eight rounds using only his left arm. Because of an injury in his right elbow, super middleweight contender Özen barely ever threw shots with his right but managed to take care of Fecko, sending him to the canvas twice only with his jab and a couple of left hooks. Fecko fired back but couldn’t hurt Özen who donates his purse to his social project “Kampf Deines Lebens” (“Fight of your life”) which helps criminal teenager to get back on track.

On the undercard light heavyweight prospect Abel Gevor stopped previously unbeaten Ricards Bolotniks in the third. It was Gevor’s fourth win in as many pro fights. Cruiserweight contender Yavuz Keles was disqualified in the first round against Leon Harth for repeated misconduct. 18-year-old lightweight Tunahan Keser scored the first win of his young pro career in a rematch against Petr Gyna. In August Gyna and Keser fought to a draw over four rounds. This time Hamburg based Keser got the better end of a split decision.

Froch scores controversial stoppage over Groves

Carl Froch
With the help pf referee Howard Foster, Carl Froch was able to retain his WBA/IBF Super Middleweight with a 9th round stoppage over previously undefeated George Groves in Manchester, England.

Groves dominated the early part of the fight as he viciously dropped the champion with a huge right hand. Froch was very wobbly as he stumbled to the ropes just before the end of the 1st round. Groves could not miss Froch with jabs and right hands. The action was furious with guys landing heavy shots that thrilled the 20,000 fans. Groves started to develop a welt under his left eye. That did not bother Groves as he continued to land piston jabs and laser right hands to the face of Froch.

In round nine, the two had a serious exchange with Froch getting the better. Froch landed two hard shots and Groves was attempting to mount offense while being a bit staggered and for some reason referee Howard Foster stopped the bout at 1:33 of the 9th.

Froch is 32-2 with 23 knockouts. Groves is now 19-1.

Abdusalamov back on life support

According to Dan Rafael of espn.com, injured Heavyweight Magomed Abdusalamov is back on life support after being briefly being taken off it. Abdusalamov was injured during his November 2nd bout with Mike Perez in New York.

“His temperature shot up to 103, so his body wasn’t ready yet (to come out of the coma), so they put him back on life support and (into) the medically induced coma,” Lewkowicz said. “Terrible setback. No clue when they are trying to bring him out again.”

Froch weighed in at 167 ¾ lbs while Groves checked in at 166.8 lbs for the battle.

Froch tried to intimidate the upstart challenger by whispering in his ear and the two fighters had to be separated.

Groves did not back down and both guys are ready for what could yet another great day of boxing AWE.

In the co-feature, Scott Quigg (121 ¾ lbs) defends the WBA Super Bantamweight title when he takes on Argentinian Diego Silva (121 ½ lbs).

PACQUIAO – RIOS WEIGH IN PHOTO GALLERY

‘OLD’ PACMAN IS BACK AS FILIPINO STAR REVEALS SPEED WILL BE THE KEY AHEAD OF RIOS CLASH LIVE ON BOXNATION THIS WEEKEND

Pacquiao_VenetianM&G_131121_001a
LONDON (23 Nov) – Manny Pacquiao has revealed speed will be the key in overcoming Brandon Rios in his welterweight clash live this weekend on BoxNation.

The Filipino prizefighter who makes his eagerly anticipated ring return following his sensational knockout defeat to Juan Manuel Marquez last December believes that the outcome will be decided on who lands first.

“I’m focusing on quickness, speed and some different techniques I can apply for his style,” said Pacquiao. “He’s a very aggressive fighter but I’m faster than him and speed and power will be the key to winning this fight. We chose Rios because he’s the best opponent for me and we can give an exciting action fight for the fans,” he added.

The ‘Fighter of the Decade’ also admitted that this was the best training camp of his career, as he prepares to go in with a fighter in Rios who never backs down and will be in front of him for as long as the fight lasts.

“The difference with this training camp is that I started early; this is one of the longest preparations in my boxing career. Also it’s good because it’s the first time I’ve trained in General Santos for a big fight like this. My team is very happy with how I’ve looked. Our training camp was good, so I’m very relaxed and happy going into the fight,” Pacquiao said.

This belief has been backed up by his promoter Bob Arum who believes that fight fans are going to be treated to the ‘old’ Pacquiao, who dazzled in performances against the likes of Oscar De La Hoya and Ricky Hatton.

Top Rank chief Arum has given a unique insight to BoxNation into the reasons why Pacquiao has failed to perform to his optimum in recent outings: “I was over in General Santos a few weeks ago for the media day and Manny looks like the old Manny, at the top of his game. He looked like when he fought De La Hoya, Hatton and Cotto. I was trying to figure out why? And number one, it’s obvious he has fewer distractions over there. He has a gym that’s on lockdown and people just can’t wander in. When he trained at the Wildcard in LA the Filipino people living in the United States would come from San Francisco from San Diego, they’d drive to the gym and they’d say please let us in because we drove so long.

“We don’t have that distraction – we haven’t got it in General Santos. Also, Manny is involved in so many different things; political things, financial things in the Philippines. So because of the time difference he would work from 5am in the morning, he would be in the gym that afternoon and then he would come back to his house in LA and he’d be on the phone all night because that was day in the Philippines.

“People didn’t realise that, he was up all night talking on the phone. Now when he’s training in the Philippines he lives a normal life. He gets up in the morning, he trains, works out, does whatever business he does in the afternoon, comes, trains in the gym and goes to sleep. And 10pm, 11pm, there’s nobody for him to call. Everybody is sleeping. People didn’t realise that but it’s occurred to me that that’s why a lot of people said in his last few fights how distracted he was.”

Manny Pacquiao vs. Brandon Rios is live on BoxNation (Sky Ch. 437/Virgin Ch 546) this Sunday at 1.30am. Visit www.boxnation.com to subscribe.

Manfredo stops Gingras in thriller at Twin River; Clampitt ends career on high note with victory

peter_manfredo_jr
LINCOLN, R.I. (Nov. 22nd, 2013) – “The Pride Of Providence” might want to reconsider his retirement plans.

Peter Manfredo Jr. (40-7, 21 KOs) returned to the ring Friday night at Twin River Casino, fighting in honor of his friend and fellow Rhode Island boxer Gary Balletto, and stopped the hard-charging Rich Gingras (13-4-1) of nearby Lincoln in the eighth round of the scheduled 10-round main event of Jimmy Burchfield’s Classic Entertainment & Sports’ “Pride & Power” professional boxing event.

The fight was billed as the “Pride” Manfredo against the “Power” Gingras, a hard-hitting up-and-comer who, like Manfredo, starred on the reality television series, The Contender. The two Rhode Island fighters put on a show worthy of Fight of the Year consideration in the finale of Twin River’s 2013 Fight Series.

Though Manfredo dominated toward the end, stopping Gingras at the 1-minute, 33-second mark of the eighth round, Gingras never made it comfortable for Manfredo, even hurting him midway through the third round to the point where it appeared Gingras was one or two punches away from a major upset.

Manfredo unofficially retired for the third time in March after decisively beating fellow Contender alum Walter Wright at Twin River, but decided to give it one more try Friday in honor of Balletto, who is paralyzed from the waist down following an accident at his home in July. With Balletto sitting ringside, Manfredo entered the ring wearing Balletto’s customary tiger-striped trunks, and, despite some tough moments at times, put together a performance reminiscent of both his and Balletto’s toughest fights.

Gingras opened the fight as expected, charging right at Manfredo with a flurry of rights and lefts. Manfredo withstood the initial surge, even fighting uncomfortably with his back to the ropes, before he began to stall Gingras’ progress with short, right uppercuts on the inside.

Having finished the opening round on a solid note, Manfredo began to pick up the pace in the second and third rounds, willingly trading with Gingras in the center of the ring and utilizing his experience to out-box and out-work his opponent at times, but Gingras turned the tide toward the end of the third, clubbing Manfredo with a hard overhand right against the ropes that sent Manfredo stumbling toward the neutral corner. With Manfredo visibly hurt, Gingras went in for the kill and again had Manfredo in a precarious position against the ropes, but Manfredo weathered the storm and survived the round.

Neither fighter had a significant edge in the fourth or fifth rounds, though Manfredo brought the crowd to its feet with a sharp right cross early in the fifth to momentarily stun the hard-charging Gingras. Continuing along the same pace of non-stop action, the two closed the round with another entertaining toe-to-toe exchange in the center of the ring that drew cheers from the crowd.

Manfredo regained control in the sixth and began out-boxing Gingras like he did in the second round, this time using his jab to dictate the pace. As the action picked up, Manfredo began landing more cleanly against the beleaguered Gingras, opening a nasty cut over Gingras’ left eye that clearly affected his concentration. Manfredo dominated the round, arguably the most lopsided round up until that point.

In the eighth, Manfredo finished Gingras for good, continuing to fight well on the inside and catching Gingras with short uppercuts. The fight ended on a brilliant right uppercut-left cross combo from Manfredo, prompting referee Joey Lupino to stop the bout as Gingras wobbled and tumbled helplessly into the ropes.

Fighting for the first time in three years and the final time in her illustrious career, the Warwick, R.I., veteran Clampitt (22-5-1) faced a tough test against Dominga Olivo (8-9-1) of Brooklyn, N.Y., in the co-feature of Jimmy Burchfield’s “Pride & Power” professional boxing event at Twin River Casino.

The two stood toe-to-toe most of the fight with Olivo actually gaining steam toward the end, but Clampitt’s dominance in the early rounds allowed her to finish on a positive note with a 59-55, 58-56, 58-56 unanimous decision win.

The victory put Clampitt’s final career record at 22-5-1 with 7 KOs, which included world titles in two different weight classes, and erased the sting from her knockout loss to Holly Holm in 2010, a fight that ended in controversial fashion when Clampitt suffered a neck injury within the first two minutes of the fight.

The scheduled six-round heavyweight special attraction between Jesse Barboza (7-1-1, 5 KOs) of Hyannis, Mass., and the veteran Arthur Saribekian (23-5-1) ended in dramatic fashion as Barboza scored a decisive knockout win at the 1:15 mark of the second round.

Fighting for the first time in more than 11 years, the 38-year-old Saribekian spent most of the first round trying to find his distance against the taller Barboza. In the second round, Barboza began his attack, backing Saribekian into his own corner with a vicious body blow. Saribekian bravely fought his way out as Barboza momentarily took his foot off the pedal before reestablishing his dominance and crushing Saribekian with a hard overhand right that sent his opponent crashing to the canvas. Saribekian popped up quickly, but the referee immediately stopped the bout.

The opening bout between Providence’s Ethan Pena (2-0) and light middleweight Antonio Marrero (0-2) was as good as advertised with Pena winning a close, 38-37, 37-38, 38-37 split decision. The two traded blows throughout the fight, but Pena was a bit sharper and more accurate with his pitches, especially in the fourth and final round with the fight still hanging in the balance.

In the middleweight division, Providence’s KJ Harrison-Lombardi (4-0-1) avenged his loss to Mike Rodriguez (0-1) in the amateurs, this time beating the tall, lanky Springfield, Mass., native by unanimous decision, 39-36 on all three scorecards. Harrison-Lombardi pressed the action throughout the fight while Rodriguez tried to keep his opponent on the outside by utilizing his jab. The aggressor Harrison-Lombardi ultimately won on the scorecards to keep his unbeaten record intact.

Sampson Boxing’s Fortuna, Rodriguez Score Victories in Mexico

Fortuna206
Former WBA Interim Featherweight Champion Javier “El Abejon” Fortuna (23-0-1, 16 KOs), of the Dominican Republic, scored a third-round TKO over Mexico’s Manuel Castro (12-3, 11 KOs) last Saturday (November 16) on the undercard of the Arce vs. Carmona event at the Domo of San Luis Potosi, Mexico.

With Fortuna in complete control throughout, the referee finally stopped the fight after an unanswered barrage. Unfortunately, seconds before the action was halted, Fortuna was cut for nine stitches by a head butt.

Fortuna’s promoter, Sampson Lewkowicz, says his 24-year-old fighter has found new focus, working with new trainer Hector Bermudez in Troy, New York.

“Javier looked very sharp in his first fight with Bermudez. He is ready to challenge anyone in the world at 126 or 130. With his new training techniques, he can do either division easily.”

Also on the undercard that night, fellow Dominican super featherweight Braulio “El Chavo” Rodriguez moved to 15-0, 15 KOs when Mexico’s Oscar Arenas (26-8, 23 KOs) did not answer the bell for the fourth round.

It was truly a breakthrough performance for Rodriquez in Mexico, as he won over the Mexican fans with his showmanship and power-punching fists. Entering the ring to boos, he left to chants of “You are Mexican. You are Mexican.”

“Braulio Rodriguez is a future star in boxing,” continued Lewkowicz. “He has the kind of TV-friendly, unorthodox style that people appreciate, even ones who don’t know him yet. He won that crowd over with his unique ability.”

World Series of Fighting signs Brian Foster, Benny Madrid and Bryson Hansen

LAS VEGAS (Nov. 22, 2013) – World Series of Fighting is pleased to announce the addition of seven-year veteran welterweight Brian Foster (19-6), Arizona-based lightweight Benny “El Hijo” Madrid (7-1) and impressive young bantamweight Bryson Hansen (6-1) to the company’s roster of athletes.

“Our World Series of Fighting family continues to grow, and I can’t wait to see this latest group of guys step into the decagon,” World Series of Fighting President Ray Sefo said. “Brian Foster, Benny Madrid and Bryson Hansen are all incredibly talented athletes that I think can make an immediate impact in our promotion, and fans can expect to see them in early 2014.

“We also signed a new deal with Bryson’s brother, Brensen Hansen, who has looked fantastic in his two appearances for World Series of Fighting. Our roster just keeps looking better and better each day.”

A 29-year-old Illinois native, Foster joins the promotion on the strength of a 5-1 mark in his past six fights. Incredibly, Foster has never fought to a decision in his 25 career fights, and he owns 10 victories by submission, as well as another nine by knockout.

Foster is perhaps best known for a five-fight stint for the UFC. He left the promotion after consecutive wins over Matt Brown and Forrest Petz when health concerns forced him to take some time off, but Foster has since rebounded with three stoppage wins in four appearances, including two first-round tapout wins.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to compete in the WSOF,” Foster said. “The company continues to sign great talent, and I’m happy to be a part of the team and take this chance to rise to my true potential. I just want to show the world what I’m capable of when I’m at my best, and this is a great place to do it.”

Madrid turned pro in 2009 and rattled off nine straight wins to begin his career. Six of those victories came by way of stoppage, including four triumphs by way of knockout and two via submission. Along the way, “El Hijo” was crowned lightweight champ of the Arizona-based World Fighting Federation.

Madrid fought most recently in September, when he fell just short in a bid to unseat King of the Cage 155-pound champ Victor Meza, losing the hard-fought, 25-minute contest via unanimous decision.

“It would be an incredibly proud honor to fight on NBCSN. I’ve never been on TV before. I’m kind of ugly though,” Madrid joked. “I should do one of those GEICO commercials with the caveman.

“Jokes aside, my focus is not on the cameras. It’s about being the best fighter I can be and to show everyone how much heart I’ve got.”

The Hawaiian-born Hansen brothers now reside in Las Vegas, home of World Series of Fighting. The two Xtreme Couture products have built an impressive record early in their career.

Promotional newcomer Bryson was a bantamweight champion in the Hawaiian-based X-1 promotion and was also selected as a cast member of “The Ultimate Fighter 14.” He fought most recently in May, where he earned a first-round TKO win over Jesus Alvarado.

Four of Bryson’s six career wins have come by way of knockout.

Meanwhile, Brenson Hansen (5-1) is currently riding a three-fight win streak. The featherweight has fought for World Series of Fighting twice, scoring wins over Josh Montalvo and Tom Marcellino.

“It’s going to be good to be working alongside my brother for the WSOF,” Bryson said. “There will be bigger and better things to come from me in my career, and fighting on NBCSN and the international broadcast partners they have planned can only elevate me as a fighter.”

World Series of Fighting will host its first Canadian event with “WSOF 7: Kharakanyan vs. Palmer” on Dec. 7 at the PNE Agrodome in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Georgi Karakhanyan and Lance Palmer headline the NBCSN-televised card, competing for the inaugural WSOF featherweight title. The telecast starts at 6 p.m. PT/9 p.m. ET and is preceded by undercard fights streaming live on www.WSOF.com beginning at 3 p.m. PT/6 p.m. ET.

HEAVYWEIGHTS INVADE ATLANTIC CITY December 14th – Resorts Casino and Hotel – Atlantic City On NBC Sports Network Fight Night

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ – A pair of hungry heavyweights are ready to do battle on the Atlantic City boardwalk on the next edition of NBC Sports Network’s FIGHT NIGHT, December 14th. Undefeated knockout artist Amir Mansour, 19-0, 14 KOs, takes on super-sized Kelvin Price, 14-1, 6 KOs, in an anticipated 10-round confrontation at the Superstar Theatre at Resorts International Hotel and Casino. The fight is expected to provide both heated heavyweight action and a clear cut answer as to which fighter has a future in the division.

Amir Mansour
Amir Mansour is a fight fan’s dream of a heavyweight boxer. The trash-talking, left-handed, slugger is aggressive and mean inside the ring, and possesses the power to end any encounter with a single punch. Just ask his 14 knockout victims. Only one of them has made it out of the third round. But Mansour isn’t all punch. He’s also won both 10- and 12-round decisions in his career, proving that he can win a fight in any fashion. Against Price, Mansour will chase victory number 20, and the opportunity to begin his trek toward a title shot.

But it was boxing that became his calling. Price has defeated Tor Hamer, Arron Lyons, Danny Williams, and also faced rising star Deontay Wilder. He sees the fight with Amir Mansour as his ticket to the title. Price may be right, if he can effectively use his size, experience and superior athleticism on December 14th.

The 10-round co-feature bout is a thrilling light-heavyweight clash between two ambitious boxers with championship aspirations of their own. St. Louis southpaw, Ryan “The Irish Outlaw” Coyne, 21-1, 9 KOs, brings his crowd-pleasing style to Atlantic City for the first time, and is targeting Thompson as his entree to the world rankings. Lionell Thompson, 14-2, 9 KOs, of Buffalo, NY, has won two in a row since jumping in with Sergey Kovalev on short notice. Kovalev won the world title just three fights later, and Thompson would like nothing more than a second chance with the undefeated Russian puncher. Beating Coyne in Atlantic City, would be his first step in attaining that goal.

In another heavyweight fight, former two-time world champion Steve “USS” Cunningham, 25-6, 12 KOs, returns to FIGHT NIGHT in an 8-rounder. The fight is the latest step in Cunningham’s campaign to add the heavyweight championship to his two cruiserweight titles.

Fight Network Presents Golden Boy: Tarver vs. Sheppard LIVE Tuesday, Nov. 26, at 9 p.m. ET

antonio_tarver1
Toronto – Fight Network, the world’s premier 24/7 television channel dedicated to complete coverage of combat sports, will present a live broadcast of Golden Boy Live! professional boxing from BB&T Center in Sunrise, Fla. on Tuesday, November 26 with a stacked card featuring the return of former world champion Antonio “Magic Man” Tarver facing West Virginia veteran Mike Sheppard in the 10-round main event.

One of Southern California’s top fistic attractions, unbeaten bantamweight Randy “El Matador” Caballero, will make his Florida debut against local southpaw, Jessy Cruz of Miami in the 10-round co-main event.

“I’m looking forward to getting back into the ring and showing the world that the ‘Magic Man’ is better than ever and ready for the big fights,” said Tarver. “This is the perfect opportunity to make a statement at home and I can’t wait.”

“Beating someone like Antonio Tarver would be career-altering for me,” said Sheppard. “I know what he’s accomplished in the sport, but I’m hungry for this and you’re going to see the best Mike Sheppard yet.”

“I have not fought here in Florida in almost two years and this is what my fans have been waiting for,” said Ortiz. “It’s going to be a big night in Florida and I will be looking for a knockout.”

Tarver vs. Sheppard is presented by Golden Boy Promotions and sponsored by Corona and O’Reilly Auto Parts. The BB&T Center doors open at 7:00 p.m. ET and the first bell rings at 8:00 p.m. ET. The Fight Network broadcast will air live at 9:00 p.m. ET/6:00 p.m. PT.

A 1996 Olympic Bronze medalist for the United States, Lutz, Florida’s Antonio “Magic Man” Tarver (29-6, 20 KO’s) is one of the premier fighters of this era, having dominated the light heavyweight division with his signature wins over Roy Jones Jr., Glen Johnson, Eric Harding and Clinton Woods. Now looking for another world title at heavyweight, the southpaw is prepared to take on and beat all comers.

A 16-year pro, Palestine, West Virginia’s Mike Sheppard (21-15-1, 9 KO’s) has the veteran experience needed to beat a fighter like Tarver, as he will not be intimidated by any foe in the ring. Winner of six of his last nine bouts, including an August victory over Justin Novaria, Sheppard is amped up to score the upset and get a career-defining win.

“This is only my second fight outside of California and I’m looking forward to putting on a great show for the Florida fans on November 26,” said Coachella’s Caballero. “This is a big night for me and I can’t wait to get into the ring.”

“Caballero is a tough kid and I’ve watched him on the way up,” said Cruz. “But he’s not coming into my house and beating me here. My trainer Herman Caicedo has prepared me well and I will shock the world when we fight.”

Twenty-three-year-old Randy “El Matador” Caballero (19-0, 11 KO’s) is a top 118-pound prospect on the verge of making noise on the world stage in the coming year. Showing off new skills in his fight game with each and every fight, Caballero has added knockout power to his resume in his last three fights, knocking out Rigoberto Casillas, Luis Maldonado and Miguel Robles, the latter victory coming by way of a debilitating body shot in the seventh round.

Following an impressive amateur career that saw him make it to the quarterfinals of the 2006 National Golden Gloves and also compete at the 2008 Olympic trials, Miami’s Jessy Cruz (10-5-1, 4 KO’s) turned pro in 2008 and after a rough start in his first three years, the thirty-year-old has hit his stride, winning six of his last seven bouts, including three in a row.

‘HUGE FAN’ BECKHAM JETS IN TO MACAU TO WATCH ‘INSPIRATIONAL’ PACQUIAO AS HE TAKES ON RIOS LIVE ON BOXNATION THIS WEEKEND

LONDON (22 NOV) – David Beckham has flown into Macau to take up his ringside seat to show his support for the ‘inspirational’ Manny Pacquiao ahead of one of the most eagerly anticipated fights of the year.

The global icon has admitted that he is a ‘huge fan’ of the boxing superstar and has backed him to give the Philippine public something to cheer when he faces Brandon Rios live on BoxNation this weekend.

The Philippines has been left devastated by Typhoon Haiyan, which has claimed the lives of over 4000 people and has left nearly 4 million displaced.

But Beckham expects the Filipino ace ‘Pacman’ to do the business and help put smiles back on the faces of his adoring public.

“It’s obviously one of the reasons why I’m here and why I’m really excited being here,” said Beckham. “I’m a huge fan of Manny’s. I met him a couple of years ago in the Philippines, when I was on tour there with the Galaxy and also there with UNICEF. And he truly is an inspirational person.

“I haven’t spoken to him, but I know how much this fight is going to mean to him this weekend because of everything that is happening in the Philippines. The eyes of the world have been on the Philippines the last couple of weeks and I know how much this is going to mean to him,” said the former England international.

“He’s not just loved around the world of sport or just around the world of boxing. But the way that people love him and are inspired by him. This fight will mean so much to him because for a slight moment this fight is going to put a smile on the people’s faces in the Philippines. And we all send out love and our hopes to the people in that part of the world,” Beckham added.

Pacquiao faces Rios in a bout that is a potential ‘Fight of the Year’ candidate and not only has it attracted Beckham but other star names such as Alicia Keys.

Macau is looking to build its boxing and entertainment profile with a host of top events being lined up in the near future, starting this weekend with one of the fight games pound-for-pound kings in Pacquiao, who looks to bounce back in sensational style from his knockout loss to Juan Manuel Marquez last December.

Manny Pacquiao vs. Brandon Rios is live on BoxNation (Sky Ch. 437/Virgin Ch 546) this Sunday at 1.30am. Visit www.boxnation.com to subscribe.

BoxNation will donate £2 from every new subscription this week to the Disasters Emergency Committee’s appeal for victims of Super Typhoon Haiyan.

SUNRISE, FLORIDA (Nov. 22) – Fighting in his adopted home state of Florida for the first time since 2012, highly-touted Cuban heavyweight contender Luis “El Mercedez” Ortiz will make his Golden Boy Promotions debut against fellow southpaw Alex Gonzales of Puerto Rico in a featured bout at the BB&T Center in Sunrise, Fla. on Tuesday, Nov. 26. The 10-round bout was added to the fight card after the matchup between Odlanier “La Sombra” Solis and Kevin “Kingpin” Johnson was removed from the card.

In the Golden Boy Live! main event, airing on FOX Sports 1 and FOX Deportes, heavyweight star Antonio “The Magic Man” Tarver returns to action to face Mike Sheppard for the vacant NABA Heavyweight crown. In the co-main event, undefeated bantamweight Randy “El Matador” Caballero makes his Florida debut against local southpaw Jessy Cruz of Miami. Also featured on the card will be unbeaten 2012 U.S. Olympian Dominic “Trouble” Breazeale, who takes on Nagy Aguilera in an eight-round televised bout.

Owner of nearly 350 amateur wins, Camaguey, Cuba native Luis “El Mercedez” Ortiz (17-0, 14 KO’s) is on the fast track to the top of the heavyweight division. Now making his home in Miami, the 34-year-old southpaw has won 10 fights in three rounds or less and he will be looking for another quick finish to entertain his local fans.

“I’m happy to put this deal together between Golden Boy Promotions and Dade Promotions, said Juan Lazaro Jimenez, manager of Luis Ortiz. I am also excited about the possibilities that will see us lead Luis Ortiz to the world heavyweight championship.”

“I’m proud to be fighting for Golden Boy Promotions and Dade Promotions, and I’m going to give a great show on November 26, said Luis Ortiz. “I’ll be looking for the knockout from the opening bell, and as excited as the fans will be, I’m even more excited to be fighting in and representing the United States, which has been my home for the past four years.”

A 1992 Olympian who represented Puerto Rico in the Barcelona Games, Alex Gonzales (20-8, 10 KO’s) is a veteran competitor who can match Ortiz in world-class experience as both an amateur and a professional. Winner of two of his last four bouts, Gonzales has waited for an opportunity like this and plans on making the most of it when he steps in the ring against his unbeaten foe.

Tarver vs. Sheppard, a 10-round bout for the vacant Interim NABA Heavyweight title, is presented by Golden Boy Promotions and sponsored by Corona and O’Reilly Auto Parts. EARLY RESULTS FROM TWIN RIVER

LINCOLN, R.I. (Nov. 22nd, 2013) – Jaime Clampitt finally got her storybook ending.
