LAS VEGAS, (Nov. 11, 2013) – World Series of Fighting’s first-ever Canadian fight continues to fill out, as three new preliminary contests have been booked for World Series of Fighting 7, including a light heavyweight matchup of Dwayne “D-Bomb” Lewis (13-8) vs. Kalib Starnes (15-8-1), a featherweight contest of Shawn Albrecht (9-5) vs. Josh Machan (11-4) and welterweights Michael “The Messenger” Hill (5-2) vs. Jordan Knippelberg (8-2).

The trio of bouts take place on the preliminary card of “World Series of Fighting 7: Johnson vs. Kyle,” which streams live on www.wsof.com starting at 6 p.m. ET/3 p.m. PT on Dec. 7 at PNE Agrodome in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The night’s main card airs on NBCSN at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT following prelims.

Tickets for World Series of Fighting 7, which start at just $29, are available at TicketLeader.ca.

“We’re incredibly excited to be making out first trip to Canada, and our preliminary card is going to feature a great mix of the country’s best veteran and prospect fighters, who will enjoy an opportunity to impress a worldwide audience,” World Series of Fighting President Ray Sefo said. “Add that to an amazing main card that features Anthony Johnson vs. Mike Kyle in the headliner, and I think Canadian fans are going to be in for a great night of action.”

Lewis, of Fort McMurray, Alberta, boasts past clashes with MMA notables Razak Al-Hassan, Chris Camozzi Marvin Eastman, Wilson Gouveia, Ryan Jimmo and Emanuel Newton, among others. Lewis briefly retired from the sport following a particularly frustrating loss to Gouveia, but the draw of the sport was too strong, and he returned to the cage in July, scoring a unanimous decision win over Tim Chemelli.

Starnes, a five-time UFC veteran and former Armageddon Fighting Championship middleweight champion, fought most recently in August, when he needed just 81 seconds to score a TKO win over Clay Davidson. The 38-year-old native of Surrey, British Columbia, currently boasts a three-fight win streak, a run that includes a heavyweight bout with six-time UFC veteran Tim Hague.

Albrecht, of Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, is the head coach of West Coast Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu with seven years of professional MMA experience. Despite his ample grappling history, Albrecht has earned eight of his nine career wins by way of knockout.

Meanwhile, the 26-year-old Machan has elected to handle his fights in a different manner, notching 10 of his 11 career wins by way of submission. The Red Deer, Alberta, resident is also in the midst of an incredible run of success, winning 11 of his past 12 fights including an incredible run of four-straight wins by tapout – two of which took 22 seconds or less.

Hill, of Kelowna, British Columbia, is perhaps best known for his time as a cast member on “The Ultimate Fighter 16,” where he fought as a member of UFC heavyweight Roy Nelson’s team. Most recently, he came up short in a bid for the Aggression Fighting Championship welterweight title, losing by submission with just 31 seconds remaining in the five-round championship bout.

Meanwhile, Knippelberg, of Trail, British Columbia, brings a three-fight win streak to the cage, a run that includes two submission wins of one minute or less. Overall, Knippelberg has won seven of his past eight fights and owns five of his eight career wins by submission.

Wegner sees Hernandez and Gutknecht in shape ahead of November 23 fights

Ulli Wegner still enjoys forming fighters into champions. Therefore, the 71-year-old signed a contract extension with Team Sauerland last week. On November 23, two of his fighters can validate Wegner’s decision: IBF and RING Cruiserweight World Champion Yoan Pablo Hernandez (27-1, 13 KOs) has a mandatory defense against Alexander Alekseev (24-2-1, 20 KOs) lined up and Eduard Gutknecht (25-2, 9 KOs) can make the next step towards a world title shot versus Dmitry Sukhotsky (20-2, 15 KOs) at brose Arena in Bamberg, Germany. Here are Wegner’s assessments on the following topics…

…Training: Both throw themself into it. Hernandez and Gutknecht are already in tremendous physical shape. There is still some work to do regarding tactics in training camp. But I feel certain that both will be more than ready come November 23.

…IBF World Champion Hernandez: He is working very consciously in training. However, as soon as he steps inside the ring for his fights, his Cuban temper gets the best of him. If he can find a way to canalize it and stays focused, Pablo would be nearly unbeatable. Never before, I had a more talented boxer with the combination in skills and explosiveness under my wings. I see him putting it all together against Alekseev, beating him in dominant fashion.

…Light Heavyweight Contender Gutknecht: He can do much better than he did in the past and he is aware of this fact. Eddy is really a clever guy. When I am talking to him about certain tactics and technique, he often tells me not to speak to him like a professor. Altough Sukhotsky is determined and uncompromising fighter, I see Gutknecht making the next step towards a world championship fight in Bamberg.

Tickets for the big fight night at the brose Arena in Bamberg can be purchased at www.eventim.de and www.boxen.com.

Team Sauerland to try and set new world record for fan noise during Nielsen-Pinzon fight in Albertslund on November 16

Team Sauerland is hopeful to set a new world record for fan noise on November 16 when WBA & WBO Intercontinental Middleweight Champion Patrick Nielsen (20-0, 9 KOs) fights in front of his boisterous home fans in Albertslund for the first time of his career. The 22-year-old Dane takes on Jose Pinzon (24-5, 15 KOs) at MusikTeatret Albertslund, with his younger brother Micki Nielsen (10-0, 8 KO) also in action. “The Nielsen brothers, their wild fans and a packed music venue with great acoustics – I´d say we´ll have a brilliant chance of breaking the record,” promoter Nisse Sauerland said. “Just in case, we´ll be handing out free ear plugs at the entrance should things get too noisy.”

Team Sauerland is currently looking into details, but the world record for fan noise (indoor) is believed to be at 106.6 dBA. It was apparently set during a time-out in of the LA Clippers-Milwaukee Bucks NBA game at Bradley Centre, Milwaukee in December 2008. “Patrick and Micki have had great support throughout their careers,” Sauerland said. “Their fans have followed them all over the country. They have created a hell of an atmosphere whether in Herning, Frederikshavn, Esbjerg or Aarhus. Now imagine a packed venue – built specially for music concerts – in their backyard, with their family, friends and fans around, and you know that we have a chance. And even if we can´t break the record, we will still scare the hell out of their opponents.”

Patrick Nielsen is thrilled about the plans. “I am so grateful for the support I get from my fans, it would be great to break the record together,” he said. “When I hear their screams and shouts, I know that I am not alone in the ring and that gives me a big energy boost. I will do my part and give the crowd an exciting fight. Let´s make some noise!”

Team Sauerland is currently finalising the details of the attempt. “We have arranged for a special device that can measure decibels beyond the 130-mark,” Sauerland said. “It was not easy to come by.”

There will be a DJ to warm up the crowd, and ring announcer Tuukka Koistinen will also help to get the party going. Sauerland: “It´s going to be crazy!” Tickets for the Nordic Fight Night at MusikTeatret Albertslund are available at billetnet.dk.

Ramirez destroys Hernandez inside a minute

2012 U.S. Olympian Jose Ramirez obliterated Erick Hernandez in just 47 seconds of their scheduled six round Jr. Welterweight bout at West Hills College Golden Eagle Arena in Lemoore, California.

Ramirez landed a perfect left hook that sent Hernandez down for the first time. Just seconds later, Ramirez landed a devastating double left hook to the head that sent Hernandez down under the bottom rope and the fight was stopped.

Ramirez, 142 1/2 lbs of Avenal, CA is now 7-0 with 5 knockouts. Hernandez, 143 1/2 lbs of Cancun, MX is now 4-5-1.

Alejandro Perez scored a 2nd round stoppage over Miguel Zamudio in a scheduled 10 round Super Featherweight bout.

Perez scored a knockdown from a body punch in round two and Zamudio could not beat the count of 10 at 1:51 of round two.

Perez, 128 lbs of Salinas, CA is now 19-3-1 with 13 knockouts. Zamudio, 129 lbs of Guasave, MX is now 25-3-1.

Yoshi Fujji and Christian Silva fought to a four round draw in a Featherweight bout.

Scores were 39-37 Silva, 39-37 Fujji and 38-38

Fujji, 123 3/4 lbs of Fresno, CA is now 3-3-2. Silva, 125 1/2 lbs of Sun Valley, CA is now 2-3-1.

BRACERO DECISIONS SALITA IN IMPRESSIVE FASHION BEFORE SOLD OUT CROWD IN BROOKLYN

New York, NY (11/9/13) – Earlier tonight before a boisterous sold out crowd at the Aviator Sports and Events Center in Brooklyn, NY, DiBella Entertainment presented the latest edition of its popular Broadway Boxing series. The special-edition Saturday Broadway Boxing card was entitled “Battle for Brooklyn” and was headlined by Brooklyn’s fan-favorite welterweight contenders Gabriel “Tito” Bracero and Dmitriy “Star of David” Salita.

The bout between the two Brooklynites has been talked about for years, and as soon as the fighters emerged from their respective dressing rooms, the crowd erupted

The first few rounds were feeling out rounds but Bracero picked up the pace in the third. There was good two-way action in the ensuing rounds, with Bracero landing the more telling shots.

In the 8th round, Bracero sent Salita to the canvas with a short left hand. Although Salita didn’t appear hurt, Bracero jumped all over him when the action resumed, in what was clearly the most dominate round of the night.

Bracero picked up where he left off in the 9th, bloodying Salita under his eye and on his forehead in yet another dominate round for the Puerto Rican-American.

In the 10th and final round both fighters came out swinging, in what was easily the best round of the fight. Both fighters scored hard shots during the round an ended the fight in the center of the ring standing toe-to-toe.

In the end all three judges scored the bout in Bracero’s favor, 100-89, 99-90, 97-92. With the win, Bracero improved his record to 23-1, 4KO’s, picking up the WBO International Welterweight Title. The victory over Salita (35-2-1, 18KO’s) was the most important victory of Bracero’s career and hopefully sets him up for something big in the 140-147 lb divisions sometime in 2014.

HARDY SCORES 2ND ROUND TKO TO PICK UP FIRST TITLE

In the co-feature bout of the evening, Heather “The Heat” Hardy continued on her path to stardom, scoring a devastating 2nd round TKO over Ana Gomez and picking up her first professional title in the process.

Hardy, who only turned pro last year, has quickly become one of the major attractions on the New York boxing scene and on this night, fighting for the first time in her home city of Brooklyn, she didn’t disappoint. Fighting in front of her legion of adoring, and growing fan base, Hardy picked up the UBF junior featherweight title in impressive fashion.

Hardy came out on fire, dishing out heavy punishment from the outset. Hardy had Gomez in trouble immediately, as she scored vicious shots with both hands. Gomez was able to make it out of the round, but the end seemed near.

Hardy picked up right where she left off in the 2nd, once again blitzing Gomez and opening up with both hands. With Gomez taking hard shots the referee wisely jumped in, calling a halt to the contest at 1:44 of round number two. With the victory Hardy improves to a perfect 7-0, 2KO’s and looks to be inching towards her first world title opportunity in 2014.

OHTA DECISIONS RUIZ IN A SLUGEST

In one of the feature bouts of the evening, world-rated junior middleweight contender, Charlie Ohta slugged out an exciting eight-round majority decision over Mike Ruiz.

The WBA #11, WBO #11 and IBF #13-rated Ohta pressed the action throughout, stalking Ruiz around the ring and repeatedly landing hard right hands upstairs. Ruiz was able to counter effectively though, and landed a number of hard shots of his own. While Ruiz had success on the outside, his punches just didn’t seem to have much effect on Ohta, who noticeably rocked Ruiz on multiple occasions. In the end, the judges favored Ohta’s aggression awarding him a 79-74, 77-75, 76-76 majority decision. With the win Ohta improved his record to 23-1-1, 15KO’s while Ruiz dropped to 17-8, 9KO’s .

UNDERCARD RESULTS

In his much anticipated pro debut, 18-year-old boxing prodigy Junior “Sugar Boy” Younan wasted little time in notching his first professional victory, stopping Kenneth Schmitz at 1:40 of the very first round.

With his home crowd behind him, the blue-chip prospect displayed blistering speed, jumping all over Schmitz as soon as the bell sounded to start the fight. Younan gave his opponent absolutely no chance to even get into the fight, dropping Schmitz only seconds into the round. Schmitz beat the bell, but just had no answers for Younan’s speed and power. With Schmitz taking heavy shots the referee had no choice but to call a halt to the contest. Look for Younan (1-0, 1KO) to be back in action very soon as he hopes to quickly ascend the ranks of the super middleweight division.

In a bout that he seemingly won comfortably, Freeport, Long Island’s up-and-coming prospect Patrick “All” Day was forced to settle for a six-round majority draw in his junior middleweight clash with Urmat Ryskeldiev.

Day used his superior boxing ability and ring generalship to ward off the constant pressure of the hard-charging Ryskeldiev. Ryskeldiev was able to score at times, but never had Day in any trouble. It was a tough bout, and one that Day seemed to have in the bag. Unfortunately, two of the three judges didn’t see it the same way.

Julie Lederman scored the bout 59-55 for Day while both Robin Taylor and Robert Perez shockingly scored it even at 57-57. It was the first blemish on the otherwise perfect record of Day, who now stands at 5-0-1, 2KO’s while Rykeldiev’s record stands at 5-3-1, 4KO’s.

Promising lightweight prospect and 5-time NY Golden Gloves Champion, Shemuel “The Chosen One” Pagan improved to a perfect 4-0, 1KO with a dazzling and dominant four-round shut-out decision over tough-as-nails Jesus Cintron.

Pagan landed vicious combinations to both the body and head of Cintron round after round, and had his opponent in trouble a number of times. Somehow though, Cintron stayed on his feet and was able to make it to the final bell. Pagan, who is co-promoted by DiBella Entertainment and 50 cent’s SMS Promotions will likely be back in action on the SMS promoted card December 20th in Queens, NY.

The Bronx’s undefeated Louis Cruz ended his six-round super lightweight bout in devastating fashion, knocking out Bryan Acaba at 1:24 of round number two. With his opponent’s back against the ropes, Cruz landed a monstrous left hook disconnecting Acaba from his senses. Rather then drop to the canvas though, Acaba stayed up right, caught in the ropes as Cruz landed another vicious left hook before the referee could jump in and call a halt to the contest. With the impressive victory Cruz improves to 5-0, 3KO’s.

In his second professional bout, former #1-rated amateur and national champion Chris “Golden” Galeano fought through a nasty cut to win a unanimous four-round decision over Jamil Gadsden.

The junior middleweight Galeano boxed beautifully behind a steady jab, controlling the action from the outside. In the 2nd round an accidental head butt opened up an extremely deep cut over Galeano’s left eye that bled profusely for the rest of the fight. Galeano kept his cool though, and boxed his way to a clear-cut four-round decision, winning by scores of 40-36, 40-36, 39-37. With the win, Galeano gets his pro career back on track, improving to 1-1.

Hard-hitting light heavyweight Joe Smith improved his record to 13-1, 11KO’s with a workman like six-round split decision over Lamont Williams 5-3-1, 2KO’s. Fighting behind a strong contingent of fans, Smith used his aggression and constant pressure to take the decision over the rugged Williams.

Garcia gets off deck to stop Martinez in eight and claim 130 lb title

mikeygarcialontchi150
Mikey Garcia had to climb off the canvas and come back to score an 8th round stoppage over Roman Martinez and win the WBO Jr. Lightweight championship at the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Garcia boxed very well for most of the fight the exception of a brief moment in round 2 when he was caught with a sneaky right hand that sent him to the canvas. That advantage was short lived for Martinez as Garcia started finding a range with his power shots. In round six, a left hook wobbled Martinez. Garcia finished the round landing a nice right hand and a body shot. Garcia continued landing good shots and in round eight he landed a perfect left to the body that sent Martinez down on all fours. he was unable to beat the count and the fight was over at 56 seconds of round eight.

Garcia of Oxnard, CA is now 33-0 with 28 knockouts. Martinez of Puerto Rico is now 27-2-2.

Nonito Donaire made it two for two against Vic Darchinyan as the Filipino Flash had to come from behind to score a ninth round stoppage in their Featherweight bout.

Both guys landed hard shots for the first eight rounds with Darchinyan landing more often and even rocking Donaire, the heavy favorite several times. Finally in round nine, Donaire dropped Darchinyan with a huge left hook. Donaire went in and landed a huge flurry of punches and the fight was stopped at 2:06 of the ninth round. Donaire was down 78-74 on two cards while a 3rd card was even at 76-76.

Donaire is now 32-2 with 21 knockouts. Darchinyan falls to 39-6-1.

Demetrius Andrade won the WBO jr. middleweight championship with a workmanlike split decision over 2004 U.S. Olympian and previously undefeated Vanes Martirosyan.

Andrade of Providence, Rhode Island, is now 20-0 with 13 knockouts and is promoted by Arthur Pelullo’s Banner Promotions and Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing.

Andrade proved early that he had the heart of a champion as he came back from a flash first -round knockdown.

Andrade got off the deck and dominated the rest of the bout as he stuck his hard right jab consistently in
Martirosyan’s face.

Andrade’s best round was the sixth when he hit Martirosyan with repeated power shots that raised swelling around his left eye.

Andrade was never challenged down the stretch as he put on a beautiful boxing exhibition that Martirosyan had no answer for.

According to Compubox Andrade landed 219 of 769 while Martirosyan only managed 83 of 443.

Two judges had Andrade winning by scores of 117-110 and 114-113, While a third judge turned in a dubious card that had Martirosyan ahead 115-112.

“He caught me but I stayed focused,” said Andrade about the knockdown. “I stayed focused and continued to jab and started to pick him apart. I started to feel comfortable inside and won the fight.”

On becoming a world champion, “This feels great and my time is now.”

Said co-promoter Arthur Pelullo, “This is what we envisioned when we signed him. That was to become world champion and he did that tonight. We feel that he is on track to become the best jr. middleweight in the world. Winning this belt puts him in the mix to be able to prove that.”

UFC favorites Egan, O’Neil headline stacked pro-am mixed martial arts card at historic Foxwoods

MASHANTUCKET, Conn. (Nov. 9th, 2103) — With a thrilling combination of top-rank veterans, up-and-coming pros and some of the best amateurs in the region, this is the type of event that, in a nutshell, captures the essence of Classic Entertainment & Sports’ famous “something for everyone” edict.

“A November To Remember,” coming to Foxwoods Resort Casino on Friday, Nov. 15th, 2013, is the latest installment of CES’ wildly-popular mixed martial arts division, and it will be the promotion’s second pro-am card this month at Foxwoods, including its recent boxing pro-am at the beginning of November.

This time, CES will bring heavy-hitters Chuck O’Neil (11-6, 3 KOs) of Bridgewater, Mass., and popular Irish middleweight Thomas Egan (7-3, 5 KOs) of nearby Dorchester to Foxwoods’ venerable Fox Theater, adding two former Ultimate Fighting Championships (UFC) veterans to an already-stacked lineup.

Egan, who starred in UFC 93 four years ago in his native Ireland, will face the always-dangerous Bombsquad veteran Harley Beekman (4-2, 2 KOs) of Amsterdam, N.Y., in a three-round bout. Looking to continue his climb back up the ladder in the welterweight division, O’Neil will tangle with Atlanta’s Chris Woodall (12-4, 5 KOs) in a three-round bout. A former contestant on The Ultimate Fighter reality television series, O’Neil is looking to a rebound from a first-round knockout loss to Brazilian Gil de Freitas in August.

Tickets for the event are priced at $30.00, $55.00 and $100.00 (VIP) and can be purchased by calling 401-724-2253/2254 or online at www.cesmma.com or www.ticketmaster.com. This is an all ages show; all fights and fighters are subject to change.

The undercard of “A November To Remember” features more of the region’s top talent as North Haven, Conn., bantamweight Blair Tugman (5-3) will face Eugene Barrett (3-6) of Toledo, Ohio. Also on the card, hard-hitting heavyweight Josh Diekmann (13-5 9 KOs), fighting out of TriForce MMA and Groton, Conn., will battle Chris Guillen (13-15, 1 KO) of Fort Worth, Tex., and Providence, R.I., flyweight Dan Cormier (1-3) will face newcomer Marvin Malonado of Latham, N.Y.

One of the most impressive up-and-comers in New England, light heavyweight Willie Brown Jr. (1-0) of Meriden, Conn., will return to face Pittsburgh newcomer Chazz Dowell, and Dorchester, Mass., featherweight James Murrin will make his professional debut against fellow newcomer Douglas Monteiro, fighting out of the Dragon’s Lair in Framingham, Mass.

On the amateur side, welterweight Kyle Bochniak (3-1) of Boston’s Broadway MMA will face Travis Demko (1-0) from Wai Kru, also out of Boston, and bantamweight Mike Piacentini (0-1) of Coondog MMA in Meriden will face Dashawn Robinson (1-1) from Ultimate MMA in North Haven, Conn. The amateur undercard also features welterweight bouts between Eduardo Conde (3-0) of Team Thunder MMA in Watertown, Conn., and Jose Quinones (3-1) of New England Combat in Johnston, R.I.; and Romulado de Freitas of the Dragon’s Lair and independent fighter Angel LaBoy (0-1) of Hartford. All amateur bouts feature three five-minute rounds.

JOSE PEDRAZA & THOMAS DULORME HIGHLY RANKED IN THE WBC AND WBA

Thomas Dulorme
November 8, 2013 – Two of Puerto Rico’s most talented boxers have marched their way up the rankings. Jose “Sniper” Pedraza (15-0, 10 KOs) is now ranked WBC No. 8 and WBA No. 11 in the Super Featherweight division and fellow countryman Thomas Dulorme (19-1, 14 KOs) is rated WBC No. 6 and WBA No. 5 at Super Lightweight. Both Pedraza and Dulorme are part of “Team Puerto Rico”, a promotional group consisting of Gary Shaw Productions, DiBella Entertainment and Universal Promotions.

After traveling to Peru and spending quality time working with the WBA ranking committee at their convention, Gary Shaw then traveled to Thailand for the WBC convention to do the same. Shaw, who’s worked endlessly on getting all of his fighters ranked in the best possible position, feels Pedraza and Dulorme are primed for stardom.

“It’s been a grueling last few weeks but as an international promoter these are things you have to do to get your fighters in the best possible position,” said Shaw. “I feel confident that Pedraza and Dulorme will take their careers to the next level. They are both highly ranked in the WBC and WBA. A world title shot is very close for both of them and together they fight for the people of Puerto Rico. I know their countrymen are ready to embrace another world champion and both of these young men are ready to bring it home.”

In his last five fights, Pedraza has stopped four of his opponents, three of which were shown on national television. Known for fighting from both southpaw and conventional stances, Pedraza feels he’s ready to step up in competition.

“First I want to thank all of my promoters for giving me the opportunity to fight on national television.” said Pedraza, “I know Gary Shaw has put an enormous amount of work getting me ranked by the WBC. I feel now is the time to step up the competition. I’m looking forward to fighting any of the top contenders in my division. My goal is to bring home a world championship to the people of Puerto Rico.”

Thomas Dulorme looked very impressive in his last outing, a fight in which he dominated Frankie Figueroa on HBO winning by eighth round TKO. With a title shot nearing closer, Dulorme is excited about his future.

“Since moving to 140 pounds, I feel I’m one of the biggest punchers in the division.” Dulorme said. “With the hard work of my promoters, I’m in position to fight for the WBC world title and I’m very grateful for their efforts. I fight for Puerto Rico and I’m working hard to bring home a world title. All my fans can expect an exciting fight every time I step in the ring.”

BOXNATION’S BULGING CALENDAR STARTS OFF WITH MIKEY GARCIA’S WORLD TITLE HUNT AGAINST ROMAN MARTINEZ LIVE THIS WEEKEND

Mikey_Garcia
LONDON (8 Nov) – Rising star Mikey Garcia’s battle with WBO super-featherweight world champion Roman Martinez this weekend will act as the appetiser before BoxNation’s incredible festive fight feast.

The world’s best boxing channel kicks-off what will be a mouth-watering next couple of months with the fight games biggest cards set to be featured live and exclusive all the way until Christmas, starting with Saturday night’s Texas showdown.

‘The Filipino Flash’ Nonito Donaire is also set to make his return on the bill against old foe Vic Darchinyan, following his defeat against Cuban kingpin Guillermo Rigondeaux last April.

The main event, though, sees Garcia, the undefeated former WBO featherweight world champion, move up to the 130 pound weight class with the aim of capturing his second title against the skilled ‘Rocky’ Martinez.

Having been stripped of his featherweight crown on the scales, after failing to make the weight against Juan Manuel Lopez in his last bout, Garcia is determined to bounce back and regain his place amongst boxing’s elite.

“I was very sad. I worked very hard to get that title – I waited over two years in line to get that title shot and to not be able to defend and to lose it on the scale – it was hard,” said Garcia.

“As we were walking down the elevator and through the hallways going to the weigh-in knowing that I was no longer champion – I just tried to move forward and do the best that I could,” he said.

The 25-year-old fighting out of Oxnard, California is well aware it’s not going to be an easy ride against Martinez, who has only lost one bout out of 30, that coming in a narrow points decision against Scotland’s Ricky Burns.

“He’s very tough, very durable,” said Garcia. “He’s one of the most resilient guys out there. He is a world champion and he’s not going to let that title slip out of his hands easily. He’s going to fight very hard to keep that title. That’s why I think it’s going to be a very good fight for me,” he added.

“I am not only moving up in weight but I am fighting a world champion in Rocky Martinez and we are doing all the things necessary to be in the best shape possible to be prepared for Rocky Martinez,” Garcia said.

Martinez goes into the bout having beaten undefeated prospect Diego Magdaleno and is confident he will similarly hand Garcia his first loss.

“I know that he is an intelligent guy, very smart and he knows how to throw his punches together and that’s why we trained so hard – to be ready for anything. I think I can take his punches. I think I have proven myself that I am able to take punches. So it is a question of just being ready and being at my best,” Martinez said.

“I should be the favourite. I am the champion and I am naturally the bigger guy. I am strong and I prepared myself well and I believe I am going to win this fight because of that,” he said.

Following BoxNation’s airing of Martinez vs. Garcia, the ‘Channel of Champions’ will be showing the following events live and exclusive: Maldonado Jr. vs. Ramos Jr – Golden Boy Live! (Nov 11), Sergey Rabchenko vs. Cedric Vitu (Nov 16), Andre Ward vs. Edwin Rodriguez (Nov 16), Manny Pacquiao vs. Brandon Rios (Nov 23), Antonio Tarver vs. Mike Sheppard (Nov 26), Copper Box Arena show featuring Dereck Chisora and Nathan Cleverly (Nov 30), Paul Smith vs. Luke Blackledge (Dec 7), Paulie Malignaggi vs. Zab Judah (Dec 7), Guillermo Rigondeaux vs. Joseph Agbeko (Dec 7), Juergen Braehmer vs. Marcus Oliveira (Dec 14), Adrien Broner vs. Marcos Maidana (Dec 14) and Stuart Hall vs. Vusi Malinga (Dec 21).

In addition to this mammoth lineup BoxNation will also be showing the award winning 24/7 series as it delves into the camps of Manny Pacquiao and Brandon Rios. The UK premiere of Episode 1 will be on Wednesday Nov 13th at 9pm, followed by Episode 2 on Wednesday Nov 20th at 9pm and Episode 3 on Friday 22nd Nov at 9pm.

AL BERNSTEIN: EXPECT DYAH DAVIS TO MOUNT HIS “BEST” EFFORT IN WHAT COULD BE HIS “LAST CHANCE” TO CHALLENGE THE SUPER MIDDLEWEIGHT DIVISION ON NOVEMBER 16

London (8 November) The legendary boxing analyst Al Bernstein is expecting ‘Dangerous’ Dyah Davis to give his best “effort” in his fight with James DeGale MBE on November 16th at Glow, Bluewater.

Hall of Fame Bernstein feels that at the ripe age of 32, this could be tough American Davis’ “last chance” at fighting a major super middleweight contender when he competes for the WBC Silver title live on Channel 5 from 10pm and that ads a “sense of urgency” to the fight.

“Dyah Davis is a very good ring technician who likes to control the tempo of a fight,” Bernstein said.

“At age 32 there is a sense of urgency for Dyah in this fight – This may be his last chance at a fight with a major 168 pound contender and that too suggests that his effort in this fight will be the best he can mount.

“Davis has great genes, as the son of Howard Davis Jr, who won a gold medal in the 1976 Olympics and also had an excellent professional career.

“Howard has also worked with his son as a pro to pass along his ring knowledge.

“He has good hand speed, an excellent uppercut and is also capable of throwing good combinations, but does not always do that. His main issue is that sometimes he is much too economical with his punching.”

Former NABF champion Davis is set to meet the 2008 Olympic gold medalist and former British and European champion, DeGale.

A man fondly known as ‘Chunky’ who is ready to send a statement to the division and prove he is injury free and prepared to take on anyone.

Their fight tops the bill at Glow and is to be shown live on Channel 5 from 10pm, the night also features an all-star line up.

AL BERNSTEIN: INJURY FREE DEGALE IS “BOUYED” FOR HIS CLASH WITH DYAH DAVIS ON NOVEMBER 16TH

London (8 November) Al Bernstein feels injury free James DeGale MBE is “buoyed” for his WBC Silver super middleweight title defence at Glow, Bluewater, on November 16th.

The legendary Hall of Fame boxing analyst believes it would be “heartbreaking” for the 2008 Olympic gold medalist should he fail to defend his WBC Silver title and the possibility of him losing his momentum towards a world title adds to the “drama” of the upcoming contest.

“DeGale is buoyed for his fight by the fact that he is 100% healthy. In recent bouts he has been nagged by some recurring injuries,” Bernstein said.

“But for his close loss to George Groves, James DeGale would be undefeated now, and his mission to get a world title shot could well be in it’s final stages.

“The super middleweight division remains one of the most talented filled in all of boxing and it speaks well for DeGale that he is ranked in the top 10 of all four of the major organising bodies.

“So, it would be especially heartbreaking for DeGale if he lost this match and with it the momentum he has built toward a title opportunity – That adds an element of drama to this fight.”

DeGale is set to meet the former NABF champion and son of former 1976 Olympic gold medalist Howard Davis Jr, the tough American ‘Dangerous’ Dyah Davis.

Davis is a man who has traded leather with current WBC world champion Sakio Bika and tarnished the records of undefeated fighters.

Their fight tops the bill at Glow and is to be shown live on Channel 5 from 10pm, the night also features an all-star line up.

Ortiz to take on Collazo on January 30

Ortizr_0990_WMRZ
In a battle of former welterweight title holders, Victor Ortiz will fight Luis Collazo on January 30th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn and will be televised on Fox Sports 1 according to Dan Rafael of espn.com.

“Victor was disappointed when Alfonso Gomez had to pull out of their fight but now he is excited about the exposure he will get against Collazo on this card,” said Golden Boy Promotions Richard Schaefer. “It’s tied in with the Super Bowl. For us and Victor to be part of this is fantastic. Victor is one of the most recognized names in boxing, so it’s a highly anticipated comeback against another former champion.

“This is not a tuneup fight. This is a real fight, but if Victor can come back and show what he can do with Collazo, he will be right back in the middle of the mix at 147 pounds. Instead of being the fourth fight in San Antonio, he’s the main event now and thrilled about it.”

“I think Ortiz is a great fighter and he was champ, but he and Luis are both at the point in their career where a fight like this is very important,” said Nirmal Lorick, Collazo’s trainer and co-manager. “The outcome will see who goes forward. They’re both capable of winning. It’s a good fight for boxing. Luis is still one of the best welterweights to me. We don’t duck anybody. Hopefully, after we win this one, we’ll get another world title fight.”

“Luis was waiting for another big fight and has been working toward that, and now he’s getting it,” Schaefer said. “We brought him back [from a long layoff] when we signed him. We’ve kept him busy, and now he has an a great opportunity to go in against Victor Ortiz knowing that a win will lead him to even bigger fights.”

‘Irish’ Joey McCreedy fighting for Breast Cancer Awareness on ‘Royale Rumble’

PROVIDENCE (Nov. 7, 2013) – Popular New England fighter “Irish” Joey McCreedy will be fighting for Breast Cancer Awareness in the main event on “Royale Rumble,” presented by Big Six Entertainment, November 23 on a special Saturday afternoon card (5 p.m. ET start) at The Royale Nightclub Boston (formerly The Roxy).

McCreedy (14-6-2, 6 KOs), fighting out of the same hometown as “Irish” Micky Ward (Lowell, Mass.), is trained by Ward’s brother, Dicky Eklund. His opponent in the six-round bout is Nigerian light heavyweight Dennis Ogboo (7-7, 6 KOs), who lives in Lexington, Kentucky.

McCreedy has dedicated his Nov. 23rd fight to Dianne Levasseur, the mother of his close friend, who passed away last year with breast cancer. The 28-year-old McCreedy will wear pink ribbons on his shorts.

“I was supposed to fight last month (Breast Cancer Awareness Month) in Rhode Island,” McCreedy explained, “but that fight was canceled so I’m dedicating this fight to Dianne. I want women with breast cancer to know they’re not fighting alone. We may fight in the ring, but these women are the real warriors. They’re fighting for their lives. They aren’t alone in their fight to survive; we have their backs. Cancer effects everybody – friends and family – and I just want breast cancer victims to know we care.”

McCreedy hasn’t fought since this past St. Patrick’s Day, when he won a unanimous eight-round decision over Michael Walchuk. He claims this will be his last fight as a light heavyweight.

“After this fight I want to tackle the top super middleweights,” McCreedy said. “I’ve been known to party after a fight and put on weight. I’m getting a little older and I’m already on weight. I has my fight canceled last month but stayed focused and in the gym. I ran a lot and the weight came off easier since I rededicated myself to training. I’m already on weight. I’m a free promotional free agent and Jerry Simpson is my new manager. I want to stay active.”

In the eight-round co-feature, Irag War veteran Chris Traietti (14-3, 10 KOs), fighting out of nearby Quincy, meets Randy “The Rattler” Campbell (3-10, 2 KOs), of Charleston (WV) in a rematch of a fight 2 ½ years ago, in which Traietti won a six-round majority decision.
Undefeated Lawrence heavyweight Alexis Santos (11-0, 10 KOs) puts his perfect record on the line against Ohioan veteran Kevin Franklin (4-7, 1 KO) in a six-rounder. Lynn welterweight “Speedy” Rashidi Ellis (2-0, 1 KO) faces Hartford’s (CT) Oscar Diaz (0-2) in a four-round fight.

Also fighting on the card is Stoneham (MA) welterweight Greg Vendetti (4-0-1, 2 KOs) and Brockton’s (MA) Antonio Chaves Fernandez (3-13-2) in a six-round rematch. They fought to a four-round draw this past July at the same venue.

Marshfield (MA) junior middleweight Aleksandra Magdziak Lopes (10-2, 1 KO) and “Notorious” Nicole Woods (11-2-2, 3 KOs), from Stone Mountain, Georgia, will meet in a battle of former world title challengers in a six-round bout.

All fighters are subject to change.

Tickets, reasonably priced at $40.00, $50.00 and $75.00, are available to purchase by calling 1.617.312.5059.

Doors open at 4:00 p.m. ET with the first bout scheduled for 5:00 p.m. ET

DARGAN & BROOKS: VASTLY DIFFERENT FIGHTERS WITH AN IDENTICAL GOAL

VERONA, NY – When promising lightweight prospects Karl Dargan and Mike Brooks square off on NBC national broadcast television, Saturday afternoon, November 16th, fans will see two very different prize fighters who happen to possess a distinctly similar goal – to make the most of their first opportunity to impress a national TV audience.

Dargan and Brooks will clash over eight rounds, at the Turning Stone Casino in Verona, NY, right before the 10-round heavyweight fight between Tomasz Adamek, 49-2, 29 KOs, and Czar Glazkov, 15-0-1, 11 KOs, gets underway. The live NBC broadcast begins at 2:30PM Eastern time.

The disparities between Dargan and Brooks come in several categories.

Karl Dargan, 13-0, 7 KOs, is a proud Philly fighter, while Mike Brooks, 10-0-1, 2 KOs, hails from Long Island, NY. The ring rivalry between Philadelphia and New York has been brewing for about a century, and these 135-pounders are ready to add their two cents to the argument. After eight rounds, only one will leave with bragging rights for their city.

Dargan said he has everything he needs to win, “I am just going to listen to my corner. I didn’t study anything he (Brooks) does. My trainer does that and comes up with a strategy. My job is to execute it. We had a great camp so I’m sure they taught me everything I need to know.”

Dargan is right-handed, while Brooks is a southpaw. Lefties can often give an orthodox boxer fits in the ring, and are frequently avoided. However, Dargan has faced two other southpaws as a pro, and handled them both. Brooks believes his left-handed style is one of his biggest strengths, and even advertises it with his nickname of “Lefty”.

Brooks confidently asserts, “I’ll just say this – like with any fighter I’ve fought; I’ve found the medicine within the first three rounds. I’m ready.”

Their boxing styles are also at odds. Dargan is a stylist who fights intelligently. Brooks brings a more aggressive approach to his fights. He attacks the body and keeps his hands moving, while Dargan watches for defensive cracks that he can exploit.

When it comes to fight time, the differences between the combatants only adds to the intrigue of the match. What really matters is what happens in the ring. This fight, before a projected home TV audience of more than one million viewers, is the opportunity of their lifetimes. Both Dargan and Brooks seek a definitive victory on their biggest platform to date. Different styles, different personalities, different backgrounds. However, underneath it all, Dargan and Brooks are the same – two talented fighters in a must-win situation. An impressive performance will propel the winner to the next level.

Golden Boy: Maldonado Jr. vs. Ramos Jr. LIVE TONIGHT at 10 p.m. ET on Fight Network

Toronto – Fight Network, the world’s premier 24/7 television channel dedicated to complete coverage of combat sports, will present a live broadcast of Golden Boy Live! tonight, November 11, at 10 p.m. ET, from Cowboys Dancehall in San Antonio, Tex., headlined by junior welterweight southpaws Fidel “The Atrisco Kid” Maldonado Jr. and Luis Ramos Jr.

In the co-main event, one of boxing’s most popular action fighters, former middleweight title challenger Fernando Guerrero will look to thrill boxing fans when he squares off against Austin’s Raymond Gatica.

Also added to the televised portion of the card is an eight-round middleweight bout featuring unbeaten 2012 U.S. Olympian Terrell Gausha against Delicias, Mexico’s Andres Calixto.

“The boxing fans in San Antonio have a well-deserved reputation as the best in Texas, so it was an easy decision for us to return with our latest edition of Golden Boy Live!,” said Richard Schaefer, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions. “In our main event, we have two top 140-pound prospects Fidel Maldonado Jr. and Luis Ramos Jr. They’re both hungry to put on a great fight and this is a must-win situation for both of these fighters.”

“Luis is a tough fighter who has fought a lot of quality opponents,” said Maldonado Jr. “But, I think I have the style and power to beat him. I plan on doing just that on November 11.”

“I always had a feeling that Fidel and I were going to meet in the ring one day and that day has arrived,” said Ramos Jr. “He’s a top young fighter like I am and we’re going to put on a great show for the Texas fans.”

Maldonado Jr. vs. Ramos Jr. is a 10-round junior welterweight bout presented by Golden Boy Promotions and Leija*Battah Promotions and sponsored by Corona and O’Reilly Auto Parts. Cowboys Dancehall doors open at 5:00 p.m. CT and the first fight starts at 6 p.m. CT. The Fight Network broadcast airs live at 10 p.m. ET.

“I’m excited to return to the ring and get back in the title picture,” said Fernando Guerrero. “The Texas fans were great to me when I fought there against JC Candelo last year and I promise to give them another show to remember on November 11.”

“Fernando Guerrero is a big name in the division and I have a lot of respect for him,” said Raymond Gatica. “But, I have every intention of beating him in front of my fellow Texans and making a big statement.”

“Fernando Guerrero is one of my favorite fighters to watch and he brings it every time,” said Mike Battah, President of Battah*Leija Promotions. “He had a great performance in Texas against JC Candelo and the San Antonio fans wanted him again, so we got him. He’s in for a tough test in Raymond Gatica and I think we’re going to be in for a great fight on November 11.”

The pride of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Fidel Maldonado Jr. (16-2, 13 KO’s) is a hard-hitting prospect that always gives the fans an exciting fight. After suffering the only two losses of his professional career in 2012 against Fernando Carcamo and Michael Perez, the 22-year-old roared back, winning three straight, including knockouts over Jorge Romero and Abraham Osuna. Now back in business at 140 pounds, Maldonado Jr. will showcase his talent on the national stage this November.

Twenty-five-year-old Santa Ana, Calif. product Luis Ramos Jr. (23-1, 10 KO’s) quickly rose to the top of the boxing world with wins over Francisco Lorenzo, Ray Beltran and Noe Bolanos, then he suffered his only blemish on his record when a controversial cut caused him to lose to former Olympian Ricardo Williams Jr. in Dec. of 2012. Now fully healed and ready to fight again, Ramos Jr. will look to regain his status at 140 pounds with a big win over Maldonado Jr.

Twenty-seven year-old southpaw Fernando Guerrero (25-2, 19 KO’s) has always been a must-see for boxing fans and he doesn’t disappoint. A native of the Dominican Republic who later became synonymous with his adopted hometown of Salisbury, Maryland, Guerrero parlayed a four-fight winning streak from 2011-2012 into a world title shot against current WBO middleweight champion Peter “Kid Chocolate” Quillin in April of 2013. Guerrero fell short of victory that night, but he’s eager to get back in the title race beginning with his Nov. 11 bout against Gatica.

Austin’s Raymond Gatica (13-1, 8 KO’s) is a former Texas State Welterweight Champion who is unbeaten in two fights since moving to the middleweight division in 2013 where the 29-year-old upset Raul Casarez in April. In his most recent bout on June 28, he stopped Juan Reyna in four rounds, making it clear that he’s ready for his FOX national television debut against Guerrero.

Since emerging from the London Olympics, Team USA member Terrell Gausha (11-2, 6 KO’s) has proven to be one of the most promising members of the Class of 2012, showing off speed, savvy and power as he’s scored six post-Olympic wins, four by knockout. Fresh from a recent first-round technical knockout over Bruce Runkle in September, the 26-year-old from Cleveland will attempt to keep the momentum going in Texas.

Heading up the non-televised portion of undercard will be popular San Antonio featherweight Joseph “The Mongoose” Rodriguez (4-0, 2 KO’s) who will put his unbeaten record on the line against local veteran Julio Valadez (4-23-1). Also representing San Antonio will be welterweight Jairo Castaneda (3-0, 1 KO) as he takes on Dallas’ James Burns (1-2, 1 KO). Both bouts are scheduled for four rounds.

In a six-round featherweight matchup, exciting Houston prospect Miguel Flores (12-0, 7 KO’s) will meet an opponent to be named, while promising Austin lightweight Travell Mazion (5-0, 5 KO’s), who is trained by women’s boxing great Ann Wolfe, will attempt to keep his knockout streak going in a four-round bout against Kalamazoo, Michigan’s Gregory Coverson (3-7-2, 2 KO’s).

One of the most intriguing fights on the Nov. 11 card will match San Antonio’s Benjamin Whitaker (5-0, 2 KO’s) and Houston’s Felipe Reyes (5-0, 3 KO’s) in a four-round clash of welterweight unbeatens.

Opening the event will be a trio of four-round bouts, with super middleweight newcomers Enrique Neira Jr. of San Angelo and Kevin Conrad of San Marcos making their professional debuts, hard-hitting San Antonio welterweight Armando Cardenas (3-0, 3 KO’s) takes on Austin, Texas’s Warren Stewart (0-3) and debuting San Antonio native Mario Barrios faces Arlington’s Rigoberto Moreno (0-1).

QUIGG WBA DEFENCE LEADS THE BRIT PACK ON FROCH VS. GROVES UNDERCARD

Scott Quigg will defend his WBA Super Bantamweight title against Diego Silva on November 23 at the sold-out Phones 4u Arena Manchester live on Sky Sports Box Office, with an undercard packed full of Britain’s hottest talent.

Quigg’s gym-mate and resurgent Lightweight star Anthony Crolla challenges Martin Gethin for the British title on a busy night for trainer Joe Gallagher, who will also have unbeaten Super Middleweight sensation Callum Smith in action and unbeaten Lightweight talent Scotty Cardle.

There’s also a late spot on the bill for St. Helens’ Middleweight star Martin Murray, who is back in action after his controversial loss to Sergio Martinez in his second World title challenge in April. The 31 year old will now box in Manchester after his December fight in Australia fell through, with an opponent to be announced soon as Murray looks to secure a third World title shot in 2014.

Unbeaten Quigg held onto the title with a draw against highly rated Cuban Yoandris Salinas at The O2 in October, and the dazzling Bury fighter now faces the Argentinian as the chief support to Carl Froch’s blockbuster WBA and IBF Super Middleweight title defence against bitter British foe George Groves.

Silva is the current Latino Super Bantamweight champion and unbeaten in his last six fights, with his last defeat coming at the hands of three-weight World champion Fernando Montiel for the interim WBO belt. With 15 stoppage wins from 29 victories and 35 fights, the 30 year old promises to provide Quigg with another tough title challenge in Manchester.
Crolla is riding high after beating Gavin Rees in Bolton in June for the WBO Inter-Continental title and is aiming to be the British champ for the second time. Gethin travels to Crolla’s backyard for the first defence of the vacant title he claimed in January in his hometown of Walsall, where four months later he took on Ammeth Diaz in an IBF World title eliminator, with his brave challenge ending in the seventh.

Rocky Fielding defends his Commonwealth Super Middleweight title against Guyana’s Lennox Allen, with the unbeaten Liverpool favourite winning the belt on home turf in September and facing a tough task against the unbeaten New York-based Allen, who boasts an 17-0-1 record with 10 wins inside the distance.

Olympic Gold medal heroes Anthony Joshua MBE and Luke Campbell MBE are both in action in their fourth pro contests, as Heavyweight star Joshua takes his first significant step in the paid ranks against Hector Avila, who took Dereck Chisora nine rounds in April, while unbeaten Super Flyweight Kal Yafai continues his comeback from injury.
