Jean Pascal and Lucian Bute are ready!

MONTREAL (October 31, 2013) – InterBox and Groupe Yvon Michel (GYM) are very pleased to confirm the rescheduled date for the much anticipated Light Heavyweight bout featuring Jean Pascal (28-2-1, 17 KO) vs. Lucian Bute (31-1-0, 24 KO). This local bout with high International intrigue will take place on Saturday, January 18th 2014 at the Montreal Bell Centre. HBO World Championship Boxing will televise.

This high profile bout between two former World champions was originally scheduled to take place last May 25th, but was postponed due to an injury to Lucian Bute’s left hand.

Yvon Michel, President of GYM, is very enthusiastic that this long awaited bout is finally rescheduled: “We are preparing for an event like no other in Canadian history. This event will be the new measuring stick for us in our sport, and this statement is true as much for boxing fans as it is for the fight itself and the intensity surrounding it”.

“We are excited to finally present this event. Our fans have waited a long time for this. Both boxers are ready so believe me, nobody will regret the wait,”adds InterBox president Jean Bedard.

“Finally! I have been waiting for this fight for years,” states former World Light Heavyweight champion Jean Pascal, who celebrated his 31st birthday on Monday. “I believe my opponent’s team conspired to postpone the fight in an attempt to demoralize me. Believe me, it did not work! On January 18th the ring will be too small for the both of us. Bute will not be able to hide. I will expose him”.

“As you all know already, I will arrive to the ring very well prepared. This is a fight that I wanted. I am going to have fun on January 18th, and so are the majority of Quebecers present at the Bell Centre,” declares former Super Middleweight champion Lucian Bute, who will be stepping up to Light Heavyweight for the bout.

Boxing in Quebec is surging more than ever!

Over the last few years, Quebec has become the International reference point for the quality of its boxers, the Champions it has developed, as well as the competencies of the two biggest promoters, GYM and InterBox.

It has now become second nature for boxing fans throughout Quebec to expect thrilling fights and intriguing boxing events loaded with talent right in their own backyard. What started off as local interest has now caught the eye of the most popular International broadcaster in the World, HBO. This prestigious network will be visiting Quebec and producing their 4th major Show in the Province in 7 months time.
“We have nothing to envy from anyone. We can compete with every American city. HBO loves coming here and have genuine interest in all our boxers, not just the champions. This is definitely a source of pride for us,” states Jean Bedard.

“Over 15,000 tickets have already been sold. We are convinced we will pass the 20,000 fan mark at the Bell Centre. The entire World will be looking in with admiration on January 18th,” states Yvon Michel.

Antidoping tests
Both boxers have signed the antidoping protocol and will be tested randomly over the next two and a half month period. These tests, comprised of urine and blood collection, are subject to World Anti Doping Agenecy (WADA) standards, which are similar to Olympic style testing.

Tickets on sale now
Tickets are now on sale at evenko.ca, or by dialing 1-855-310-2525, or by contacting Club de boxe Champion at 514-376-0980.

What the fighters and executives said Thursday:

Richard Schaefer, CEO, Golden Boy Promotions
“On Dec. 14, we have a celebration. A celebration of boxing at the highest level with the best fighters fighting the best opposition. This is what Golden Boy is all about. But it also is a celebration of San Antonio. New York at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center, Los Angeles at the Staples Center, Las Vegas at the MGM Grand and San Antonio at the Alamodome. That’s right. San Antonio is now one of the top-four premiere destinations for boxing in the United States. And our company, in partnership with local promoters Jesse James Leija and Mike Battah, are committed to bringing big-time boxing to this market on a regular basis.

SHOWTIME is going to continue the tradition of the best fighting the best. And on Sat. Dec. 14, Santa Claus is coming to town. I want to thank my friend Stephen Espinoza, the General Manager of SHOWTIME Sports and the chairman of CBS Corporation, which is the parent company of SHOWTIME, Leslie Moonves. His commitment and passion for boxing is second to none. And he has allowed us the opportunity to stage these incredible events on SHOWTIME.”

Jesse James Leija, Former World Champion and Texas boxing legend
“Between Golden Boy Promotions and Leija*Battah Promotions, it’s possible to have great fighters to promote and bring up as champions but none if this is possible without the San Antonio fight fans.”

Mike Battah, President of Leija*Battah Promotions
“As of now we have $500,000 in sales, so we know that we have brought these fights to the right city [San Antonion]. On December 14, the fight fans here will get all of the excitement they are looking for when these guys go into the ring and give their best.”

SHOWTIME Spokesman Chris DeBlasio
This fight card is truly stacked. I feel like we have been saying that a lot lately in the past two years. But this, five major fights featuring this level of talent is perhaps the best of a great bunch.

SHOWTIME has quickly emerged as the premiere destination for big-time boxing. Through the close working relationship between Stephen Espinoza (Executive Vice President and General Manager of SHOWTIME Sports) and Richard Schaefer, SHOWTIME has become the home of the best fighters in the most competitive divisions in boxing today.

As a result, our subscribers have responded by tuning in in record numbers. To date, the top-five of the most watched SHOWTIME boxing events in our nearly 30 year history in this sport have all occurred in the last 13 months. So far this year, our average viewership for SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING is up more than 23 percent. And dating back to 2011, our average viewership is up a remarkable 62 percent. There is no doubt that this incredible trend will continue when we deliver the strongest fight card of the year, on Saturday, Dec. 14, live on SHOWTIME.”

ADRIEN BRONER, Undefeated WBA Welterweight World Champion
“I have to thank God. He blessed us. And now it’s back to work. Like I’ve said before, I’ll fight whomever you all want me to fight. The next one is going to be the same way. After I (expletive) him up on Dec. 14, I’ll fight whomever you want.

(Regarding Maidana’s versatile training with renowned trainer Robert Garcia)
You can train different. You can lift weights with your teeth. You can push cars for two months straight. That doesn’t matter. I got the skills to pay the bills and I got enough will, my last name could be Smith.

There are a lot of people who hate me but the haters are going to love me at the end of the day. They just don’t know it yet. On Dec 14 I hope my haters become fans. You’ll love me eventually because I love all y’all.

I want to acknowledge the troops (members of the U.S. Military in attendance at the conference). I train in Colorado Springs. And I had the opportunity to go to Kuwait and Afghanistan to meet the troops a while back. And while I was sleeping, I could feel the ground shaking. We were getting bombed and I didn’t even know it at the time. That (expletive) over there is for real. Y’all are real fighters and y’all have given us the opportunity to do what we do. So, I thank you.

It’s going to be a hell of a fight. I can promise you this. It’s going to get ugly. I am talking Sam Cassell, Tyrone Hill ugly. It’s going to get ugly. I don’t know if he’s faking that he doesn’t speak English. But after Dec 14, he’ll speak English. I am going for the knockout. Strap up.

(On what Maidana brings to the ring)
He can hit. But Mark McGuire can hit too. But if he can’t hit nothing, his power shot becomes irrelevant. I want him to be 100% in this fight. I don’t want any excuses.

(Regarding his knockout prediction)
The Argentine fighters are strong for six rounds. They can’t go much past six. This fight is over shortly after the sixth.

Who is doing it like me? Nobody.”

MARCOS MAIDANA, Former WBA Junior Welterweight Champion
“This is a fight I wanted. I wanted to fight the best, the champion. And Adrien Broner is the champion so I am going to come prepared. I am very enthused. This is for the championship of the world. I am going to win. I am focused and will be 1000% ready.

Every fight, I have changed and I’ve improved my arsenal. Come Dec. 14, you are going to see a champion in Marcos Maidana.

(The key to beating Broner)
The key is to throw a lot of punches. Pressure him. Kick his ass. And that’s what I am going to do.

(On nuances in preparing for this fight)
I have not changed my style because this is who I am and that is how I fight. But Robert (Garcia) has sharpened my skills. He’s given me more composure in the ring and helped me to pick my shots and be even more aggressive than before.”

KEITH THURMAN, Undefeated WBA Interim Welterweight World Champion
“One Time. I am just so happy to be here. I am back. I am back in San Antonio to give another great performance. My motto is knockout for life. I am not called “One Time” for nothing. I come to bring the hurt. Fighters think they know what they’re getting into when they step into the ring. But no one can prepare for this. I am a beast. Dec. 14 is what I live for. That action. Getting hit, taking hits, giving hits. Seeing if they can take my hits, which they can’t do for long.

I am honored that Soto Karass took this fight. I am honored. There are a lot of guys that won’t take this fight. It gets me excited to know that I am going to meet someone like me in the ring. A true warrior. Someone that lives for the fight. Just like me, he’s not afraid of nobody.

I have to skip Thanksgiving. Sacrifices, sacrifices. But I can’t wait for Dec. 14. It’s going to be a special night.

There isn’t anything he can do to challenge me. No one can test me. I am testing you and you’ll fail. I come with a passion, drive, desire and will. Not just ordinary will, but the will to be champion. You’ve seen that will in my last fight. And Soto Karass is the type of fighter that can bring that out in me again. Once that comes out, it’s over for him.

(On ability of Soto Karass to challenge him)
He’s tough. Some people say he’s really tough. But when it comes to boxing, it takes skills. It’s nice to be tough but tough isn’t tough enough. If you don’t have the skills, it doesn’t matter. You have to be well rounded in this sport. I showed my versatility in my last fight and I’ll show you more on Dec. 14.

Other than Mayweather, you are looking at the best welterweights in the world (on this card). Adrien Broner is the world champ. I am Interim Champ. Marcos Maidana is ranked No. 1 by the WBA. This division is packed. I just happen to be one of the most talented.”

JESUS SOTO KARASS, (28-8-3, 18 Kos) Challenging for WBA Interim Welterweight Title
“Thank you. Especially to you, the people of San Antonio for letting me return and fight in this great city. I am excited to be back. And fighting Keith Thurman. I have seen him fight. We’ve been on the same cards before so I know what he has and he knows what I have. Come Dec. 14, I am going to bring it. I am coming to take that title back to Los Mochis (Mexico).

He has the same heart but the difference is that I have bigger balls.

I respect him but once we get into the ring, I don’t have that respect any more. My corner and myself will make adjustments once we get into the fight. I am going to war in the gym. I have bruises from the gym because I am preparing myself very well.

Mentally, I know that I need to train hard and be ready. I need to be successful and win in order to provide for my family.

There is no pressure. I know what I have to do. I have to attack and go to war in order to win this fight.”

LEO SANTA CRUZ, Undefeated WBC Super Bantamweight World Champion
“Thank you for bringing me to Texas. I always heard that I should fight in Texas and now I am here. I am going to give the fans what they want. Thank you for putting me on big shows. I am thankful for having the chance to be seen by so many people.”

CESAR SEDA, Super Bantamweight Title Challenger
“The opportunity to fight for this world title is a big deal for me. I am going to come prepared. I am going to continue with the great tradition of Mexico vs. Puerto Rico. I know I am not the favorite. I am not fighting at home. So I am going to do everything possible to come to PR with my hand raised up.”

VICTOR ORTIZ, Former WBC Welterweight Champion
“I shot a movie. I did “Dancing With Stars,” but through all that, in the back of my mind, I kept telling myself that I will be World Champion again. And that’s why I am here. Enjoy these fights. We have some of the greatest fighters of this era up here, so you are in for a treat. I will be world champion again, like it or not. Step aside. I am here.”

BEIBUT SHUMENOV, WBA Super Light Heavyweight World Champion
“I am excited. I am honored. I am looking forward to showing my skills.”

On December 11, 1996 the Foundation first honored 150 High School football players from 15 Baltimore High Schools for outstanding academic achievement. The students received official Baltimore Ravens coats, field passes to the Ravens’ game and halftime recognition.

By 1997, the Foundation began focusing its efforts on two Baltimore schools – Patterson High School and John Rhoo Elementary School. The Jonathan Ogden Club was formed at Patterson High School for student athletes to promote and reward outstanding academic achievement. Membership was opened to athletes who maintain a 3.25 gpa and rewards included, tickets to Ravens games, autograph and photo ops with Ravens players and an annual Christmas party with a private tour of the Ravens facility.

From the NFL “Play It Smart” group, the Foundation obtained the services of a young Boston University graduate,Kelley Bagdasarian, who has developed, expanded and implemented our Jonathan Ogden Club programs since her arrival at Patterson High. Coach Kelley is the academic coach of The Jonathan Ogden Club. She helps student members set personal goals and directs them to resources so they can achieve them. Each year she has refined and expanded our Jonathan Ogden Club activities with the support of the Foundation’s Trustee, William R. Hyde, Jr., Esq. and Jonathan Ogden.

Since its inception, the positive impact has been remarkable with grades, SAT/ACT scores, graduation and college acceptance rates rising each year. We assist our students with SAT/ACT test preparation, college selection and preparing and submitting college applications. Each spring, we rent buses and take our students on college visits. For many of our students we pay the SAT/ACT testing fees and college application fees. We have summer programs for our students and require each to complete a spring “Ropes Course” program, just as many of their contemporaries in private schools do.

Jonathan Ogden personally funded all of the activities of the Foundation in its early years. In order to expand these activities, the Foundation held its First Annual Celebrity Golf Tournament in June 2002 at the Cascata Golf Resort in Las Vegas, NV. Drew Hyde has served as Tournament Chairman, Catherine Hyde has served as Administrator and Aaron Roques has served as Celebrity Coordinator in each of our Seven Annual Las Vegas Celebrity Tournaments. BANTAMWEIGHT PHENOM RANDY “EL MATADOR” CABALLERO SQUARES OFF AGAINST JESSY CRUZ AS THE CO-MAIN EVENT OF GOLDEN BOY LIVE! SERIES ON TUESDAY, NOV. 26 ON FOX SPORTS 1 AND FOX DEPORTES FROM THE BB&T CENTER IN SUNRISE, FLORIDA

SUNRISE, FLORIDA (Oct. 31) – One of Southern California’s top fistic attractions, unbeaten bantamweight Randy “El Matador” Caballero, will be heading east on Tuesday, Nov. 26, as he makes his Florida debut against local southpaw, Jessy Cruz of Miami in the 10-round co-main event of FOX Sports 1 and FOX Deportes’ Golden Boy Live! at the BB&T Center in Sunrise, Fla.

Originally scheduled to compete in the co-main event, undefeated Cuban heavyweight star Luis “El Mercedez” Ortiz will now be moved to a later date to be announced.

“This is only my second fight outside of California and I’m looking forward to putting on a great show for the Florida fans on November 26,” said Coachella’s Caballero. “This is a big night for me and I can’t wait to get into the ring.”

“Caballero is a tough kid and I’ve watched him on the way up,” said Cruz. “But he’s not coming into my house and beating me here. My trainer Herman Caicedo has prepared me well and I will shock the world when we fight.”

Twenty-three-year-old Randy “El Matador” Caballero (19-0, 11 KO’s) is a top 118-pound prospect on the verge of making noise on the world stage in the coming year. Showing off new skills in his fight game with each and every fight, Caballero has added knockout power to his resume in his last three fights, knocking out Rigoberto Casillas, Luis Maldonado and Miguel Robles, the latter victory coming by way of a debilitating body shot in the seventh round.

Following an impressive amateur career that saw him make it to the quarterfinals of the 2006 National Golden Gloves and also compete at the 2008 Olympic trials, Miami’s Jessy Cruz (10-5-1, 4 KO’s) turned pro in 2008 and after a rough start in his first three years, the thirty-year-old has hit his stride, winning six of his last seven bouts, including three in a row.

WBA WELTERWEIGHT WORLD CHAMPION ADRIEN BRONER TO DEFEND HIS TITLE AGAINST FORMER WORLD CHAMPION MARCOS MAIDANA ON DEC. 14 LIVE ON SHOWTIME FROM THE ALAMODOME IN SAN ANTONIO

Adrien_Broner_1
SAN ANTONIO (Oct. 31, 2013) – WBA Welterweight Champion Adrien “The Problem” Broner and former WBA Junior Welterweight Champion Marcos “El Chino” Maidana are no strangers to facing the most feared competitors in the sport of boxing. On Saturday, Dec. 14, in a SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING® mega-bout to air live from the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, the bold and brash Broner and the punching powerhouse Maidana will enter the DANGER ZONE like never before, with “The Problem” defending his title against the Argentine knockout artist determined to wrap championship gold around his waist once again.

Who will emerge from the DANGER ZONE unscathed? Will it be the fast and precise Broner or the aggressive and powerful Maidana? The world will find out on Dec. 14.

“Maidana is one-dimensional and not in my league,” said Broner. “I’m a Ferrari and he’s a go-kart and my fans will see that in my return to Texas. It’s been over four years since I’ve fought there and I’m going to put on a show. Watch me light Maidana up like a Christmas tree on Dec. 14.”

“Everyone knows that Broner has a big mouth, but that doesn’t bother me, because his mouth can’t fight for him,” said Maidana. “Whether he has the guts to stand in front of me or if he runs I’ll definitely go for the KO and either way, I’m leaving the ring with the belt.”

“On paper this is the classic boxer versus puncher matchup, but Broner is also willing to stand and trade and Maidana can box, so I’m expecting this to be a Fight of the Year candidate to end 2013,” said CEO of Golden Boy Promotions Richard Schaefer. “There’s a lot on the line for both fighters and I can’t wait to see who comes out of the DANGER ZONE with the belt.”
“With five amazing fights and boxing’s top stars, I can’t think of anyplace better to have this event than in San Antonio,” said President of Leija*Battah Promotions Mike Battah. “As shown with the Canelo Alvarez-Austin Trout fight, this is a city that loves and supports the sport, and I can’t wait to see the Alamodome filled once again on Dec. 14.”

“This has been an outstanding year for boxing on SHOWTIME, and I can’t think of any better way to end 2013 than with a stacked card like this one. Adrien Broner vs. Marcos Maidana is a dream matchup between two of the biggest names in the welterweight division. Keith Thurman and Jesus Soto Karass are two of the most aggressive, hard-hitting fighters in any division,” said Executive Vice President & General Manager of SHOWTIME Sports Stephen Espinoza. “We’ve also got one of the sport’s top young fighters in Leo Santa Cruz. Add in the return of Victor Ortiz, and it’s clear that this truly is a can’t-miss event. It’s a pay per view-quality event without the pay per view price tag.”

In the co-main event, one of boxing’s top young stars, Keith “One Time” Thurman, will meet his toughest challenge yet when he defends his interim WBA Welterweight Championship against Mexico’s Jesus “Renuente” Soto Karass.

“Soto Karass is a tough guy, there’s no question about that, and I respect him a lot,” said Thurman. “But his style is tailor-made for me and I expect to defend my title and win by knockout.”

“Thurman is a young, talented fighter with good power,” said Soto Karass. “But as I proved in my fight with Andre Berto that when I’m on top of my game, no one can beat me. I will become a world champion on Dec. 14.”

Before Thurman and Soto Karass battle it out, the WBC Super Bantamweight Championship will be on the line when defending champion Leo “Teremoto” Santa Cruz battles Cesar Seda.

“I’m looking forward to getting back in the ring and making my debut in Texas against Cesar Seda,” said Santa Cruz. “Seda is a quality fighter and a top contender, but I’m not ready to give up my belt to him or anyone.”

“I admire Santa Cruz for his talent and his accomplishments, but styles make fights, and I have the style to beat him and bring the world championship back to Puerto Rico,” said Seda.

The stacked card’s opening world championship fight pits Kazakhstan’s Beibut Shumenov against unbeaten challenger Tamas “Tomi Kid” Kovacs in a 12-round bout for Shumenov’s WBA Light Heavyweight Title.

“I am excited to be back in the ring and to compete on such an amazing event,” said Shumenov. “It’s been a long time for me, and I’m hungry to beat Kovacs in impressive style and retain my title.”

“It has been my dream to fight in the United States against the best in the world, and on Dec. 14 I finally get my chance,” said Kovacs. “Shumenov is a great champion, but I am confident in my ability to take his title.”

Plus, in a special 10-round super welterweight attraction former Welterweight World Champion “Vicious” Victor Ortiz makes his much anticipated return to the ring.

“It’s great to be back and I can’t wait for my return on Dec. 14,” said Ortiz. “I’m stronger and better than ever at 154 pounds, and the world will see that when the bell rings.”

Tickets priced at $250, $200, $150, $100, $75, $50, $25, $20 and $10, plus applicable taxes, fees and services charges, go on sale on Thursday, Oct. 31 at 10 a.m. CT and are available for purchase at the Alamodome box office, or through Leija*Battah Promotions by calling (210) 979-3302 or emailing m@leijabattahpromo.com or online at www.ticketmaster.com and all Ticketmaster locations, by calling (800) 745-3000.

Cincinnati’s Adrien “The Problem” Broner (27-0, 22 KO’s) is boxing’s latest superstar, a charismatic and talented fighter who has made it clear with his performances that he’s here to stay. A five-year pro, the 24-year-old boxer-puncher won his first world title in 2011 when he knocked out Vicente Martin Rodriguez for the WBO Super Featherweight crown and he added the WBC Lightweight belt when he scored an eighth-round technical knockout over Antonio DeMarco in 2012. But Broner’s greatest feat came when he jumped from 135 to 147 pounds in June, defeating Paulie Malignaggi to win the WBA Welterweight Championship. On Dec.14, he makes his first defense against the biggest puncher he’s ever faced.

Thirty-year-old Marcos “El Chino” Maidana (34-3, 31 KO’s) isn’t just one of boxing’s biggest punchers; he’s also consistently amongst the most exciting fighters in the game today, one who has specialized in Fight of the Year-worthy battles against the best the sport has to offer. Hailing from Margarita, Santa Fe, Argentina, Maidana first emerged on the world scene in 2009, when he won the interim WBA World Junior Welterweight Championship with a stunning sixth-round technical knockout over Victor Ortiz. After three defenses of his title, Maidana lost a 2010 Fight of the Year candidate to Amir Khan, but he regained the belt with another classic against Erik Morales in 2011. Since then, Maidana – now competing at welterweight – has won four of his last five, all by knockout, most recently halting Josesito Lopez in six rounds on June 8.

A former amateur standout who compiled over 100 wins, Keith “One Time” Thurman (21-0, 19 KO’s) owns the kind of power that has made the boxing world take notice. On a tear since returning in 2012 from an injury-forced layoff, the 24-year-old from Clearwater, Fla. has made a statement with his trio of recent victories, as he’s scored a technical knockout over Carlos Quintana, shut out Jan Zaveck and won the interim WBA Welterweight Championship with a 10th-round knockout over Diego Chaves. On Dec. 14, he makes his first title defense.

One of the most respected veterans in the sport today, 30-year-old Los Mochis native Jesus “Renuente” Soto Karass (28-8-3, 18 KO’s) has been in some classic fights over the years, going toe-to-toe with the likes of Marcos Maidana and Andre Berto. The Berto fight in July was particularly important for him, as the 12-round technical knockout win (his fourth in his last five bouts) earned him the world title he has craved since turning pro in 2001. He promises that he won’t let this chance slip away.

Boxing’s breakout star, Leo “Terremoto” Santa Cruz (25-0-1, 15 KO’s) has already earned world championships in two weight classes, despite being just 25-years-old. A native of Huetamo, Mexico now living in Los Angeles, Santa Cruz’s fan-friendly attack has garnered him followers from around the world, and after his 2013 knockouts of Alexander Munoz and Victor Terrazas, the latter victory earning him the WBC Super Bantamweight Championship, he shows no signs of slowing down in his quest for boxing greatness.

A native of the boxing-rich island of Puerto Rico, San Juan southpaw Cesar Seda (25-1, 17 KO’s) initially made his name in the fight game with a successful run at 115 pounds, where he won the WBA Fedecaribe and NABO titles before losing for the only time in his career against WBO Champion Omar Narvaez in April of 2011. Since that bout, the 27-year-old Seda has gone up in weight and won five straight fights, two by way of knockout, earning him a title shot on Dec. 14.

A true boxing phenon who won a world title in just his 10th pro fight, Shymkent, Kazakhstan’s Beibut Shumenov (13-1, 8 KO’s) has been one of the sport’s great success stories following an impressive amateur career that saw him represent his country in the 2004 Olympics. Now living in Las Vegas, Nev., the 30-year old WBA light heavyweight world champion has successfully defended his belt four times, most recently by decision against Enrique Ornelas in June of 2012. On Dec.14, he returns to the ring.

Unbeaten as a professional, 36-year-old Tamas Kovacs (23-0, 14 KO’s) is a seasoned veteran who’s finally getting his shot at world championship glory. A WBF and WBO European champion thus far in his five-year career, the Galanta, Slovakia native is coming off of two 2013 victories over Peter Vecsei and Said Mbelwa, and he would love to close out the year by bringing a world title belt back home to Europe.

One of boxing’s most charismatic young stars, 26-year-old “Vicious” Victor Ortiz (29-4-2, 22 KO’s) has made headlines in and out of the ring, first as a former welterweight world champion who has engaged in memorable battles with Andre Berto, Floyd Mayweather, Marcos Maidana, Antonio Diaz, and Josesito Lopez; but also as a member of the cast of ABC’s hit series “Dancing With The Stars.” Now with his dancing shoes put away, Ortiz has the gloves back on and makes his highly anticipated return to the ring.

“DANGER ZONE: Broner vs. Maidana,” a 12-round fight for Broner’s WBA welterweight world championship taking place on Saturday, Dec. 14 at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, is promoted byGolden Boy Promotions and Leija & Battah Promotions and sponsored by Corona, AT&T and Grudge Match. In the 12-round co-featured attraction, Keith Thurman will defend his interim WBA welterweight Championship against Jesus Soto Karass. Leo Santa Cruz will put his WBC super bantamweight world title on the line against Cesar Seda in a 12-round bout and “Vicious” Victor Ortiz will make his much anticipated return to the ring. Plus, Beibut Shumenov faces Tamas Kovacs in a 12-round clash for Shumenov’s WBA light heavyweight title. The SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING® telecast will air live at 8 p.m. ET/ 5 p.m. PT and can be heard in Spanish using secondary audio programming (SAP). Preliminary bouts will air live on SHOWTIME EXTREME®at 6:30 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on the West Coast).

BOXNATION ADD TWO MARQUEE GOLDEN BOY PROMOTIONS EVENTS TO DECEMBER SCHEDULE

LONDON (31 Oct) – BoxNation (Sky Ch. 437/Virgin Ch. 546) are delighted to announce two LIVE back-to-back Golden Boy Promotions’ blockbuster events on Saturday 7th December and Saturday 14th December.

Both events will be quadruple-headers featuring six world championship fights including the most exciting and dynamic champions and challengers in the welterweight, light-middleweight and super-bantamweight divisions.

Beginning Dec. 7, the first of consecutive quadruple-headers takes place at Barclays Center in Brooklyn when former five-time, two-division World Champion Zab “Super” Judah (42-8, 29 KO’s) and former two-time, two-division World Champion Paulie “Magic Man” Malignaggi (32-5, 7 KO’s) clash in the main event, a 12-round showdown for Brooklyn bragging rights.

The co-feature will match IBF Welterweight World Champion Devon Alexander “The Great’’ (25-1, 14 KOs), of St. Louis, Mo., against unbeaten Shawn Porter (22-0-1, 14 KOs), of Akron, Ohio. Also on the card will be Erislandy Lara (18-1-2, 12 KO’s) of Houston, Texas against former world champion Austin Trout, of Las Cruces, N.M., for the vacant WBA Super Welterweight Championship. Rounding out the televised card, Sakio “The Scorpion’’ Bika (32-5-2, 21 KO’s) makes the first defense of his WBC Super Middleweight crown against unbeaten Anthony Dirrell (26-0, 22 KO’s), of Flint, Mich.

Earlier that evening BoxNation will televise live from the Liverpool Echo Arena a huge fight card featuring brothers Paul and Liam Smith defending their British titles, plus super-flyweight sensation Paul Butler and all-action lightweight Derry Mathews.

Then, on Dec. 14 at the Alamodome in San Antonio, the super-talented WBA Welterweight World Champion Adrien “The Problem” Broner (27-0, 22 KO’s), of Cincinnati, will make the first defense of his title when he meets the toughest opponent of his career, the dangerous, hard-hitting Marcos “El Chino” Maidana (34-3, 31 KO’s), of Santa Fe, Argentina in the main event.

Broner will be making his first start since capturing the 147-pound belt with a hard-fought 12-round split decision over defending champion Malignaggi. He made history when he became the fourth fighter to jump two weight classes and win a welterweight world championship, joining Hall of Famers Henry “Homicide Hank” Armstrong, Roberto “Mano de Piedra” Duran and future candidate “Sugar” Shane Mosley.

Maidana has won three fights in a row, including a smashing sixth-round technical knockout over Josesito Lopez in scintillating slugfest and Fight of the Year candidate last June 8.

In 12-rounders underneath Broner-Maidana, undefeated Keith “One Time” Thurman (21-0, 19 KO’s), of Clearwater, Fla., gets tested when he defends his WBA Interim Welterweight World title against tough-as-nails Jesus “Renuente” Soto Karass (32-12-4, 19 KO’s), of Mexico City, Mexico, who owns back-to-back impressive victories over world-ranked Selcuk Aydin and Andre Berto. And recently crowned WBC Super Bantamweight Champion Leo “Terremoto” Santa Cruz (25-0-1, 15 KO’s) of Los Angeles, Calif. will make his first defense against Cesar Seda (25-1, 17 KO’s) of San Juan, Puerto Rico. The card will also feature, in separate bouts, former WBC Welterweight Champion Victor Ortiz (29-4-2, 22 KO’s) against an opponent to be determined and Light Heavyweight Champion Beibut Shumenov (13-1, 8 KO’s) against Tamas Kovacs (23-0, 14 KO’s) of Slovakia.

2010 COMMONWEALTH GAMES BRONZE MEDALIST HAROON KHAN CONTINUES PROFESSIONAL JOUNREY AGAINST STEFAN SLAVCHEV IN BLACKPOOL

BOLTON (Oct 31) – Hot prospect Haroon Khan (2-0, 1 KO) will step back into the ring in Blackpool on Friday November 15th against 20-year-old Bulgarian, Stefan Slavchev (3-8, 1 KO), as he continues his march towards the top.

The 2010 Commonwealth Games bronze medalist has made a blazing start to his professional career after making the leap into the paid ranks earlier this year, scoring a win over the tricky Brett Fidoe before knocking out Vincente Medellin in a sensational performance in Atlantic City.

As the younger brother of former unified world champion, Amir Khan, the talented super-flyweight possesses much of the same skill set, including his quick hands and thrilling combinations.

He now goes into battle in his third fight against a well schooled opponent in Slavchev, at Blackpool’s Winter Gardens, leading the lineup in a stacked card that features no less than fourteen exciting bouts.

”I’m very pleased that my opponent has now be confirmed,” said Haroon. “Now I can start working on some specific things with my trainer Oliver Harrison in order to prepare for him. I know Stefan will be coming to get the win so I’ll need to be at my sharpest and make sure I’m ready. Training has gone great and I can see the improvements I’m making all the time in the gym. I can’t wait for November 15th because I’m ready to put on a great performance.”

Tickets for Haroon’s clash, which also features a jam-packed card put together by VIP Boxing Promotions, start at just £30 or £60 ringside. If you wish to buy tickets please contact Saj Mohamed on 01204535332 or email saj@premuk.com.

The full fight card will also be available online at www.vipboxing.tv.

The scheduled start time of the show is 7pm on Friday November 15 at Winter Gardens Blackpool.

UNBEATEN DARGAN AND BROOKS SET TO CLASH ON NBC

A pair of unbeaten lightweight prospects are scheduled to clash in the 8-round co-feature on the next edition of Fight Night on NBC, on November 16th. Philadelphian Karl Dargan, 13-0-0, 7 KOs, faces Long Island, NY southpaw Michael Brooks, 10-0-1, 2 KOs, at the Turning Stone Resort and Casino, in Verona, NY. The bout will be nationally televised just before the main event, a 12-round heavyweight contest between Tomasz Adamek, 49-2, 29 KOs, and Vyacheslav “Czar” Glazkov, 15-0-1, 11 KOs. The fight will be broadcast as the co-feature during an afternoon presentation the popular NBC boxing series beginning 2:30 PM ET.

“Dynamite” Dargan, a member of Philly’s Concrete Jungle Boxing Team, which is lead by Dargan’s uncle and all-star trainer Brother Naazim Richardson, was an outstanding amateur, winning numerous National and International tournaments before turning professional. As a pro, Dargan has defeated everyone put in his path, and turned in perhaps his most impressive performance the last time he stepped into the ring when he scored a second round TKO of Edward Valdez at the Theater at Madison Square Garden, in New York. Recently Dargan served as chief sparring partner for Canelo Alvarez during Canelo’s preparation for the Mayweather fight.

“Mike Brooks is an undefeated fighter, like me, which means he’s not a walk in the park,” said Dargan, “I’m sure he doesn’t want to lose that 0 so I know he’s gonna protect it with all he has.” He added, “When things get heated in the ring and I step it up to another level, we will see if Brooks can rise to that level also, if not he will come up short, VERY SHORT!”

“Lefty” Brooks had success in the amateur ranks as well. He won the 2008 National PAL tournament by beating top amateur Allen Gary Russell. Michael turned pro the following year and zipped through nine straight foes. The only mark on his record came in fight number ten, with a 4-round technical draw against undefeated Juan Villanueva in March. However, Brooks bounced right back by defeating Joseph Perez, 10-3, in his most recent start.

“I feel very blessed and excited to be given the opportunity to fight a known, skilled, undefeated fighter like Dargan,” Brooks said. “When I entered the amateur ranks for the 1st time Dargan was already #1, so he’s a veteran and has been around rich competition. I would say this shows I have proven that I have what it takes – and Dargan will see for himself November 16!”

The fight between Dargan and Brooks looks to be an interesting matchup of young talent, a classic New York vs. Philly match-up. Dargan has more knockouts, but usually depends on his boxing ability to win fights. Against Brooks, he’ll meet a fellow boxer looking to trade jabs and match wits with him.

The nationally televised bout is each fighter’s biggest platform to date. So it is a sure bet that both will come to the Turning Stone Casino to not only win, but to impress everyone watching.

Super-middleweight king Andre Ward’s world title showdown added to stacked BoxNation calendar

WardWins300
ONDON (31 Oct) – BoxNation’s knockout November is set to pack even more of a punch with the channel adding super-middleweight supremo Andre Ward’s crunch world title clash with undefeated Edwin Rodriguez to its star studded lineup.

The encounter sees the world’s best 168-pounder, Ward, defend his WBA world super-middleweight title on November 16th in Ontario, California against the ferocious 28-year-old from the Dominican Republic, adding yet another mouth-watering matchup on the ‘Channel of Champions’.

Boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao’s ring return against the formidable Brandon Rios in Macao, China on November 23rd and Queensberry’s Copper Box extravaganza on November 30th, featuring heavyweight hitman Dereck Chisora and former world champion Nathan Cleverly, are the other main attractions in a jam-packed November schedule.

And now, with the addition of Ward, regarded as one of the slickest and best pound-for-pound fighters in the world, BoxNation has yet again delivered a fight that will have boxing fans on the edge of their seat.

The bout with the hardened Rodriguez comes after a 14-month layoff for Ward, due to a shoulder injury, having previously worked his way through some of the very best including Chad Dawson, Mikkel Kessler and Britain’s Carl Froch, capturing the WBC, WBA and Ring Magazine world titles along the way.

“I’m excited to get back in the ring on November 16,” stated the champion Ward. “The opponent is Edwin Rodriguez. He’s a young, hungry, undefeated fighter who doesn’t believe he can lose and it’s my job to change his mind. I think he and his team feel like they are going to catch me slipping coming off of surgery and the layoff. I try to live like a champion. I stay in the gym, eat well, and don’t abuse my body and this rest that I got was needed. I don’t feel like the layoff will hurt me, I feel like it will help me. It allowed me to rest mentally and physically, and I want to show the fans on November 16 that I’m better than I was before I left.”

After making a huge statement in his last bout, stopping Denis Grachev in the first round at the ‘Monaco Million Dollar Super Four Tournament’,

Rodriguez believes he has all the tools to cause a big upset. “Vince Lombardi once said, ‘Life’s battles don’t always go to the stronger or faster man. But sooner or later, the man who wins is the man who thinks he can.’ On November 16th, I know I will win,” said Rodriguez.

Jim McMunn, General Manager of BoxNation, said: “It’s great that we continue to deliver the biggest and best boxing shows live and exclusive on BoxNation. The aim of the channel from the outset was to make sure British fights fans had access to the best fights from all over the world at the very best possible value. We are delighted that we have been able to add yet another great fight to our packed November schedule, this time featuring arguably the second best pound-for-pound fighter in the world in Andre Ward. With a host of names including Manny Pacquiao, Brandon Rios, Dereck Chisora, Nathan Cleverly, and many more also featuring, Christmas has come early for all boxing lovers.”

With an 89% knockout rate – the highest percentage of any world champion today – and knockouts of his last 14 opponents, Golovkin, 31, has established himself as one of the most electrifying fighters in the sport. He scored a spectacular victory on HBO in June when he KO’d Matthew Macklin in the third round. This will be the fourth fight on American soil for the fan-friendly, 160-pound titleholder, who trains at Big Bear in California.

Like Mike Tyson and Riddick Bowe before him, Curtis Stevens (25-3, 18 KOs) is a product of the hardscrabble neighborhoods of Brooklyn. Although he’s been a pro for nine years, the 28-year-old’s career has surged the past two years and he’s scored impressive first-round KO victories in three of his last four fights.

The opening bout is a ten-round heavyweight slugfest, as Cuban native Mike Perez (19-0, 12 KOs) meets Russia’s Magomed Abdusalamov (18-0, 18 KOs). Perez, 27, and Abdusalamov, 32, both seek to preserve an undefeated record and display their abilities on a national stage.

TELEVISA AND FOX DEPORTES TO AIR TRIPLEHEADER STARRING UNBEATEN ANDRES “JAGUAR” GUTIERREZ AND TWO WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP BOUTS FEATURING FEMALE STARS YAZMIN “RUSITA” RIVAS AND IRMA “TORBELLINO” GARCIA

LOS ANGELES (Oct. 30) – Following a hard-hitting event in July, the Auditorio General Arteaga in Queretaro, Mexico will once again play host to a tripleheader featuring boxing’s best, as part of “TRIPLE CORONA” on Televisa and FOX Deportes, starring unbeaten 20-year-old phenom Andres “Jaguar” Gutierrez and female stars Yazmin “Rusita” Rivas and Irma “Torbellino” Garcia.

In the 12-round main event, Queretaro’s own Gutierrez defends his WBC Silver Super Bantamweight Title against the Philippines’ Ernie Sanchez. Plus, Torreon’s Rivas challenges for the interim WBC Female Bantamweight Championship against Distrito Federal’s Jessica Gonzalez, and Mexico City’s Garcia takes on Monterrey’s Magali “Tormenta” Rodriguez for the WBA Female Bantamweight Title.

“Triple Corona” is presented by Golden Boy Promotions and Canelo Promotions and sponsored by Corona. Doors open at 5 p.m. CT and the first fight begins at 6 p.m. CT. The Televisa Deportes broadcast begins at 10:30 p.m. CT. FOX Deportes will air the broadcast on Sunday, November 3, at 1:00 p.m. EST.

One of the top young fighters in Mexico today, Andres “Jaguar” Gutierrez (27-0-1, 22 KO’s) is on the verge of big things in the 122-pound weight class as 2013 heads into its closing stages. A knockout victor over Jose Carmona and Salvador Sanchez this year, the dynamic 20-year-old is coming off of a 12-round shutout over Rey Perez in July, keeping his unbeaten record intact yet again.

Hailing from General Santos City, Filipino prospect Ernie Sanchez (14-3, 5 KO’s) is making waves in the division, and a win over Gutierrez will move him even further in his quest for world title honors. A pro since 2009, the 21-year-old has won his last three bouts, including Las Vegas victories against fellow up and comers Wilton Hilario and Coy Evans.

Twenty-five-year-old Yazmin “Rusita” Rivas (28-7, 9 KO’s) is respected throughout the women’s boxing world as a premier prizefighter, and as a WBA Super Flyweight and IBF Bantamweight Champion, she has the hardware to prove it. Unbeaten in her last 11 bouts dating back to 2011, Rivas now hopes to add another world title belt to her collection this Saturday.

Despite having just a fraction of fights that her opponent has had, it’s clear that Jessica Gonzalez (7-1-1, 3 KO’s) is ready for this bout when you consider that she has already defeated Irma Garcia and Keisher McLeod-Wells over the course of her career. And if she can beat Rivas and win her first world title, no one will ever question her again.

Looking to bounce back from the first loss of her career to Jessica Gonzalez in August, southpaw Irma “Torbellino” Garcia (7-1-1, 1 KO) is more fired up than ever to get back on the winning track and defend her title. A world champion since January, when she outpointed Janeth Perez, Garcia defeated Perez a second time in April before the upset loss to Gonzalez, and she plans on taking out Rodriguez this weekend.

Magali “Tormenta” Rodriguez (13-4-1, 7 KO’s) is a hard-hitting contender who has craved this world title shot ever since she turned pro in 2009. Owner of a 2012 win over Jessica Gonzalez, the 21-year-old Rodriguez has also been the distance twice with Janeth Perez, marking her as a legitimate threat to anyone she faces in the ring.

2012 Mexican Olympian Oscar Molina Wins big in Toluca Mexico

SHERMAN OAKS, CA (September 30, 2013) – Oscar Molina (7-0, 6 KOs), who represented Mexico in the 2012 Olympic Games will return on November 16, 2013 at the Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, California looking for his eighth professional victory as he takes on Carlos “Gallo” Sanchez in a 6-round bout underneath the Andre Ward vs. Edwin Rodriguez WBA World Championship event.

This past Saturday in Toluca Mexico and broadcast on Televisa, Molina scored a spectacular 5th round knockout over a very game Ignacio Miranda (3-10, 2 KOs) that had the sold out arena standing cheering on their feet. Molina is quickly showing the abilities of an up-and-coming serious contender in the Jr Middleweight division. Backed by a great amateur pedigree that included a 2008 Youth World Amateur Boxing Championship Gold medal and Silver in the 2011 Pan American Games, Molina is fast adjusting to the professional style.

Co-promoted by Goossen Tutor Promotions and Promotions Del Pueblo, Molina will be looking for his 7th consecutive knockout against Sanchez after going the distance in his first professional bout.

Boytsov: a win over Leapai could lead to Klitschko!

Denis Boytsov (33-0, 26 KOs) will finally lace up the gloves for Team Sauerland. On November 23, the powerful heavyweight will premiere for his new team against WBO Asia Pacific Champion Alex Leapai (29-4-3, 24 KOs) at the brose Arena in Bamberg, Germany.

Boytsov (27), currently ranked the number one contender by the WBO, has a good shot to meet the WBA and WBO Super Champion and IBF World Titleholder Wladimir Klitschko in the not too distant future if he gets past world-rated Leapai. However, coach Karsten Roewer hints that a bout against the 34-year-old from Australia will be no walk in the park for his prodigy. “You just have to take a look at his record and know that it’s going to be a dangerous affair for Denis,” said Roewer. “Leapai might not be the best boxer skill wise. Still, he is explosive and packs a punch. We have to be wary of those facts until the last bell to beat him.”

Boytsov takes his next opponent serious. “At the moment I don’t think about the fact that a win over Leapai will lead to a world title shot. It is all about my next fight. I need to be victorious in Bamberg. Afterwards, I can take it from there,” said the heavyweight, who now resides in Berlin.

The main event in Bamberg will see IBF and RING Cruiserweight Champion Yoan Pablo Hernandez defending his titles against mandatory challenger Alexander Alekseev. Tickets for the big fight night at the brose Arena in Bamberg can be purchased at www.eventim.de and www.boxen.com.

“Amir and I became friendly through my gym,” Hand said. “He reminds me of the punching power I saw in just two other fighters, George Foreman and Joe Frazier. He can punch with the best heavyweights around and he makes for good fights.

“We will be working with Russell Peltz so far as promoting and making Amir’s fights. I’ve known Russell since 1969 and I know he can help us get Amir to the heavyweight championship.”

Hand’s association with boxing began in 1967, when he became a charter member of the Cloverlay Corporation, the organization that helped guide Joe Frazier to the heavyweight championship.

In 1995, he established the Joe Hand Boxing Gym in North Philadelphia. Many of Philadelphia’s best boxers have trained there, including Bernard Hopkins, Danny Garcia, Gabriel Rosado and Chazz Witherspoon. Mansour also trains there under the guidance of ex-pro Howard Mosely.

Hand’s growing stable of fighters also includes junior lightweight Teon Kennedy, of Philadelphia, and amateur cruiserweight sensation Andrew Peurifoy, of Sicklerville, N.J.

“I’m really looking forward to it,” Eli said.

“I want to show my fans my ability and what I can do, I want to try a few things that I’ve been doing in the gym and just show a few of my skills off basically.

“It would be nice to show them another side of me, something different – I can’t wait.”

This will be Eli’s fourth contest since turning professional, boasting a perfect 3-0 record.

In his last contest Eli recorded his first knockout win, with a first round TKO over Harvey Hemsley and is concentrating on another impressive victory.
