lucas-matthysse
INDIO, CALIF. (August 30, 2013) – WBC Interim Super Lightweight World Champion Lucas “The Machine” Matthysse, a 30-year-old banger with thunder in his fists will greet fans at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, Calif. prior to the September 7 SHOWTIME®fights featuring a 12-round clash of heavyweight contenders between Seth “Mayhem” Mitchell (26-1-1, 19 KO’s) and Chris “The Nightmare” Arreola (34-3, 30 KO’s) and a 10-round featherweight match up between Mexican superstar Rafael Marquez (41-8, 37 KO’s) and California prospect Efrain Esquivias (16-2-1, 9 KO’s).

Matthysse has a reputation for exciting fights and even more exciting finishes. More of the same is expected on Sept. 14, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nev., when he faces Unified Super Lightweight World Champion Danny “Swift” Garcia for the Super Welterweight World Championship Title “THE ONE: MAYWEATHER VS. CANELO” mega fight, which will be produced and televised by SHOWTIME PPV.

The brother of former world title challenger Walter Matthysse, Lucas followed his brother into the professional boxing ranks in June of 2004, when he made his debut with a second round TKO of Leandro Almagro. His defeat of former world champion Lamont Peterson via third round TKO this past May in Atlantic City, New Jersey, set up a fight of the year on the Mayweather undercard.

Matthysse will be on hand to meet fans, sign autographs and take pictures from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. PT inside the Fantasy Springs Special Events Center. The meet and greet is open to the public with the purchase of a ticket to the fights.

Donaire – Darchinyan rematch on November 9th

Nonito Donaire
Vic Darchinyan will look to extract revenge for his knockout defeat to Nonito Donaire in 2007 when the meet in a rematch as part of an HBO televised tripleheader on November 9th according to Dan Rafael of espn.

The bout could possibly take place in Corpus Christie, Texas that will also feature two title bout. WBO Super Featherweight champion Rocky Martinez defending against former Featherweight titlist Mikey Garcia while Demtrius Andrade and Vanes Martirosyan vie for the vacant WBO Super Welterweight title.

“Darchinyan is an awkward guy and he can punch,” said Cameron Dunkin, Donaire’s manager. “He’s a dangerous guy and he really wants this fight and revenge. You never take a guy like this lightly. Anything can happen in this business.”

“Vic has wanted this fight for a long time. He wants redemption,” Frank Espinoza, Darchinyan’s manager, said. “This is a fight he’s been waiting for. I was able to get him that opportunity, but now it’s up to Vic to prepare himself well. I’ve only had Vic for one fight, but here we are, in our second fight together, and he’s got the rematch with Nonito that he has wanted for a long time.

“Of course, it was monetary, too [accepting the higher weight], but it’s good money for Vic. He’s at the point in his career he doesn’t want to wait any longer. He wants redemption, and by beating Donaire, the doors will open for him again.”

“Vic is the smaller guy, but he’s up for the challenge,” Espinoza said. “He really wants to fight Nonito again. This is the first time at 126 for both of them, but Donaire is coming off a loss and the surgery and my guy is coming off two wins.”

“He’s happy and wants to get back in the ring and fight. He’s anxious to fight,” Dunkin said. “He kept asking me, ‘When are we gonna get the contract? When can I fight again?’

“He was really disappointed in himself and didn’t think he fought as well as he should have against Rigondeaux. He said, ‘I know I can beat him but I didn’t, so you gotta give him credit. He beat me.’ But Nonito said he didn’t train properly and that he took it for granted. He says that won’t happen again. He said, ‘Look, I’m 30 years old and I want to finish strong.’ He knows Darchinyan will be really fired up for this fight, so Nonito will really prepare for this one.”

LUCAS MATTHYSSE MEDIA ROUNDTABLE QUOTES “WE’RE GOING TO BEAT EACH OTHER UP” SATURDAY, SEPT. 14 AT MGM GRAND ON SHOWTIME PPV®

Lucas Matthysse
LOS ANGELES (Aug. 30 2013) – Looking strong, fit and sounding ultra confident, a relaxed Lucas “The Machine” Matthysse was in Carson, Calif., last Saturday to meet with the media in attendance at StubHub Center and conduct an interview on the SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING® telecast.

The hard-hitting WBC Interim Super Lightweight World Champion was headed to the California desert where he’ll spend the next week or so training before he departs to Las Vegas for his mega-confrontation with undefeated, Undisputed Super Lightweight World Champion Danny “Swift’’ Garcia (26-0, 16 KO’s) on Saturday, Sept. 14, live on SHOWTIME PPV®.

A main event on any other boxing card and a division-defining fight if ever there was one, Matthysse’s eagerly awaited match with Garcia will immediately precede the Floyd Mayweather vs. Canelo Alvarez showdown on the record-breaking “THE ONE’’ fight card from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
Below are highlights of what Matthysse (34-2, 32 KO’s), who’s scored a staggering 94 percent of his wins by knockout, said during the media roundtable.

LUCAS MATTHYSSE

(Opening comments)

“Thank you for being here. I really appreciate the opportunity for this fight, and I’m going to do my best.

“I know that winning is going to open (a lot of) doors so I am taking this fight seriously. Hopefully, it (a victory) means a future fight with Floyd Mayweather. Of course I want to fight Floyd.’’

(Upcoming plans)

“I’m in California. More than anything else, I’m here to get used to the climate. I’m going to finish up my sparring here. It’s my last phase of training. I just want to get used to the difference in the climate before I go for my fight.

“Training in the desert is going to help a lot. I’m going to take a few easy days just to get acclimated. Obviously, the desert air and heat is very similar to Las Vegas.’’

(On how he’s dealing with the Garcia’s mind games)

“It doesn’t bother me. It just shows that they’re worried. That’s why they’re talking so much.’’

(On what concerns him about Danny Garcia)

“Nothing worries me. I’ve trained very hard and I’m ready for anything. (Being so) very well prepared is what gives me the confidence. I’m not only ready for 12 rounds, I’m ready for 15.”

(On whether he was angry over the length of time it took for the fight to be made)

“(There is) no animosity whatsoever. I was a little disappointed that it took so long, but I’m happy that it finally got done.’’

(On Garcia’s style)

“I feel his style suits me. He’s not a very good boxer. He’s a fighter that’s aggressive and comes forward just like I do. I like that.

“Yes, I think I can take it (his left hook). I’ve been hit before and been able to withstand it. But if Danny drops me, I’m going to get up.

“Hopefully he comes towards me, but it doesn’t really matter. I have a feeling that we’re both going to be very aggressive and, like I said, we’re going to beat each other up. It will be a great fight.’’

(Besides your awesome power, what are your other strengths?)

“I haven’t really shown my boxing, but it’s not my fault. (I can’t show it because) my opponents run from me, so I have to go after them. But I know how to box.‘’

(On the attention he’s receiving by fighting on a record-breaking event like this)

“It’s an honor to be in a fight on this big of a stage. I know there’s going to be a lot of interest. I’m just happy so many people are going to see my style of fighting.

“I’m very gracious for all the attention I am getting. I’m even starting to get used to it. I’ve felt good since the first time I came to the United States. I’ve always had a lot of support.’’

(On his newfound popularity)

“Actually, I’m a little surprised by how many people that have started to follow me. Even all the Latino people, they give me support and love and it feels great.’’

(Do your recent fast starts have anything to do with losing two controversial decisions?)

“Those two fights that I lost were (good experiences for me) and, yes, I learned from those fights. Obviously, I’ve come out a little faster now, but not just because of those fights but because I have a little different preparation.’’

(On the recent success of Argentine fighters – for one, Marcos Maidana)

“Some of us Argentine fighters are going through a good moment now. It’s an honor to be fighting in this era (with so many going well). All we do is train hard and use our heart in our training and in our fights. Actually, we’ve been going pretty well for a while now.‘’

(On the difference between the Matthysse of today and the one who debuted 10 years ago)

“I grew, mentally and physically. You learn from the fights, of course, but not only the fights. You learn from the traveling. I’ve learned so much, and I’ve gained experience. That’s the difference.’’

(On his upcoming sparring with Tim Bradley in Palm Springs)

“Obviously, he’s got very good speed and experience, and that’s going to help a lot.’’

(On why he declined a mini-press tour that would have included a stop in Philadelphia, Garcia’s hometown)

“It was going to interfere with my preparation; and that is basically the reason. My preparation is very important.’’

(On whether he would like to fight in Argentina again)

“I would love to go back someday and fight. I have a lot of people who come up and ask me when I’ll be fighting there again since it’s been awhile.’’

(On his preparedness)

“Conditioning is a key. That’s no secret. Danny will be in good condition, so will I. If you get hit, you have to be in good condition.

“All the knockouts have given me a lot of confidence, being able to finish off my fights early. But I don’t train that way. I train to box and go the rounds I’m supposed to go. I don’t look for the knockout, But if it comes, it comes.’’

(On Garcia’s weaknesses)

“There are a few but I don’t want to reveal my secrets.’’

(On what the fight with Garcia means to him)

“It’s the fight of my life … and I’m going to take advantage of it.’’

EUBANK JR FACES TOUGHEST TEST AGAINST UNDEFEATED FIGHTER ON SEPTEMBER 14TH

London (30 August) Chris Eubank Jr will take his first big step up when he clashes with undefeated Czech Republic fighter Stepan Hovarth at the Magna Centre on September 14th.

The hot middleweight star is supporting Kid Galahad vs Jazza Dickens live on Channel 5 from 8pm, and is ready to put on a “devastating” show against the dangerous 11-0 Hovarth.

“The fans want to see wars, they want to see big punches, they want to see skill, they want to see everything, so I’m going to put it all on display for those guys and for the viewers on Channel 5 on September 14th,” Eubank Jr said.

“It’s going to be devastating.”

Hovarth, 30, is a determined and dangerous opponent, boasting a professional record of 11 straight wins with zero losses.

The former Czech middleweight champion will certainly not be looking for anything less than a win, but Team Eubank are confident of coming out on top.

“The better the opponent, the better Christopher is – he rises to the competition,” Eubank Sr said

“This is exactly the type of opponent he needs – he’s an undefeated fighter and this will allow Christopher to shine just a little more.

“You can expect a textbook performance, but then again, he may just let his spirit go and rip him to pieces.”

The son of the legend, Eubank Jr, 23, contests his 11th fight as a professional, having won all 10 to date and he is eager to get in there and deliver his third straight stoppage in as many fights.

CARDLE TO FACE FOX IN GLASGOW –PART OF WEALTH TV FIGHT CARD

Scotty Cardle will face Gary Fox at the SECC in Glasgow as the Central and Northern Area lightweight champions go head to head on the undercard of Ricky Burns’ WBO World lightweight title defence against Raymundo Beltran.

Cardle progressed his record to 11-0 when he beat Maxi Hughes to take the Central Area strap in Blackpool in April, and the Lytham man with a Glasgow heritage hopes his latest bout will act as an effective English title eliminator as he looks to start mixing it with the best in a deep division.

“There was talk about the fight being an official eliminator for the English title,” said Cardle. “That isn’t happening but it is still a good step towards the English title for whoever wins. Kirk Goodings and Paul Truscott are fighting for an eliminator for the English so it could be between the winner of that fight and this fight to go for the English.

“It is a very big division, a very competitive division. I am number ten in Britain in the Boxing News ratings at the moment and I was very pleased to see that and I do fancy mixing it with the best of them in the division. The English title is around the corner for me and I think the British is near enough as well. I want to start mixing it with the domestic greats.

“I know enough about Gary Fox, I have seen some YouTube clips and I think I have learnt enough to beat him. I cannot take him too lightly because he has a great record and it is a step up for me again and I am expecting the best Gary Fox to come out on the night so I am looking forward to it.

“This fight is a big thing for me because as a pro it is my first fight in Glasgow. Glasgow is where all my family are from, so it is going to be a very big night for me with all my family and friends from Glasgow coming and I am looking forward to them seeing me put on a good show.

“I have always been a Lytham lad, I was born and raised there and I have lived there since the day that I was born. But all my family on both sides are from Glasgow and that is my blood so it is a big thing for me to fight in Glasgow. I have always wanted to fight in Glasgow because I know what kind of atmosphere the fans bring and as well as that my family are all from Glasgow, so I am really looking forward to it.”

Cardle vs. Fox forms part of a brilliant bill in Glasgow. The undercard for Burns’ latest World title defence also features the return of Paul Appleby, Prizefighter light welterweight champion Chris Jenkins, super middleweight prospect Callum Smith plus Jonathan Slowey, Stephen Simmons, David Brophy and Michael Roberts.

STATEMENT FROM “FAST” EDDIE CHAMBERS

Eddie Chambers
PHILADELPHIA (August 30, 2013)—This is an open letter to the fans who support me as well to those who don’t.
First off, I want to congratulate my opponent Thabiso Mchunu of South Africa for his victory against me. I do not want to in any form or fashion diminish that win by making excuses about my performance in the ring. I did my best that I could to make the fight. To win the fight. Losing this decision woke up my spirit to compete again and I will continue to pursue my career as a Cruiserweight.

I felt fine throughout the bout. The weight loss was not a factor in my performance. I did not expect Mchunu to fight such a defensive, awkward fight. I was trying to follow instructions from my trainer, James Ali Bashir. It was very difficult to do as I am a counter puncher as well who was forced into being the aggressor. I felt that if I did not doing something to make the fight, there would have been no action during the fight. I am not that kinda guy who is going to lay around crying over spilled milk.

I want to get right back in there the way the old-school warriors used to do many years ago. I take full responsibility for this critical setback in my career. My incentive is back and hopefully I will be able to meet Mchunu down the road and there will be a far a different result.

I look forward to meeting the top Cruiserweights in the world. I think my biggest enemy is inactivity. I have fought just three times in the last three years. I want to get busy as soon as possible. I will show the world that I am a long way from being done.

Sincerely

“Fast” Eddie Chambers

JULIO CÉSAR CHÁVEZ JR. vs. BRYAN VERA OFFICIALL ANNOUNCE THEIR RUMBLE FOR SATURDAY, SEPT. 28, at STUBHUB CENTER LIVE ON HBO®

Chavez_Lee_120612_001A
CARSON, CALIF. (August 29, 2013) — Former World Boxing Council (WBC) middleweight champion and Son of the Legend JULIO CÉSAR CHÁVEZ, JR., returning to the ring in his 2013 debut, and No. 1 contender BRYAN “The Warrior” VERA formally announced their fight at a packed Los Angeles press conference today. Taking place Saturday, September 28, under the stars at StubHub Center in Carson, Calif., the Chávez vs. Vera 12-round super middleweight rumble marks the first time Chávez has fought in the Los Angeles area since June 4, 2011, when he won the world title over undefeated interim world champion Sebastian Zbik. The fight will be televised live on HBO World Championship Boxing®, beginning at 10:15 p.m. ET/PT.

Promoted by Top Rank®, in association with Zanfer Promotions, Banner Promotions and Tecate, remaining tickets to Chávez vs. Vera, priced at $200, $100, $50 and $20 (plus applicable taxes and fees), can be purchased online at www.axs.com, by telephone at (888) 929-7849 or at the StubHub Center box office, Monday – Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Suites are available by calling (877) 604-8777. For information on group discounts, please call (877) 234-8425.

“Vera is the real deal, a warrior,” said Chávez. “Years ago I sparred a few rounds against Vera when I was in Dallas during the Pacquiao vs. Margarito event. Vera was pretty intense and I knew he could fight. We were in a ring set up inside of the Gaylord Hotel. So this fight on September 28 will challenging for me. I am just so happy getting back into the ring after such a long layoff. I think about the Sergio Martinez fight every day. A little of me died inside when I lost that fight. Could I have done better? Of course I should have but it did not happen. Now we have Vera who is aggressive and punches hard. I wanted to come back against a great fighter and Vera is all of that. I plan to win this fight and then we will discuss my plans for 2014.”

“We could have stayed around and fought WBO champion Peter Quillin but we know what is at stake with all of this,” said Vera. “I feel like I been in camp for three fights. I expect to be victorious in a great fight on September 28th.”

Chávez Jr. (46-1-1, 32 KOs), of Culiacán, México, returns to the ring for the first time since his thrilling world title loss to Sergio Martinez on September 15. Their Méxican Independence Day spectacular was the highest-attended boxing event in the history of the Thomas & Mack Center, with 19,186, topping the record set by the heavyweight championship rematch between Lennox Lewis and Evander Holyfield, which drew 19,151 in 1999. He captured the WBC middleweight crown in 2011, winning a majority decision over undefeated interim world champion Zbik at STAPLES Center, just a few blocks away from where his father won his first world title, in 1984, at the old Olympic Auditorium, when he knocked out Mario Martinez to capture the vacant WBC super featherweight title. Chávez Jr. successfully defended his title three times, knocking out Andy Lee and Peter Manfredo, Jr. in the seventh and fifth rounds, respectively, and winning a unanimous decision over two-time world title challenger Marco Antonio Rubio.

Vera (23-6, 14 KOs), of Austin, TX, who enters this fight having won six of his last seven bouts, is riding a 16-month, four-bout winning streak. Vera’s current hot streak includes NABO middleweight title victories over Sergio Mora, former world champion Sergeii Dzinziruk, and Donatas Bondoravas, the last two victories coming by way of knockout. Vera, who trains in Houston with Ronnie Shields, is currently world-rated No. 1 by the World Boxing Organization (WBO).

Pascal to take on blades on Stevenson – Cloud undercard

jean-pascal1
Jean Pascal will tune up for his January bout with Lucian Bute when he takes on George Blades on September 28th in Montreal as part of the Adonis Stevenson Light Heavyweight title defense with Tavoris Cloud according to Dan Rafael of espn.com

“In taking this fight, we have evaluated the pros and cons and at the end when we got the assurance that Jean was physically in perfect condition and in good health, we decided to do it. He’s a professional fighter and a professional fighter should fight,” Yvon Michel, Pascal’s promoter, told ESPN.com on Thursday.

“I’m very happy to be back and I want to thank Yvon for that because boxing is my life,” Pascal told ESPN.com. “It’s not a championship fight, so I’m going to fight at a catch weight, 180. I don’t consider this fight as a tuneup fight because at my level every fight is important and a loss can damage the rest of my career.

“Also, I know that Mr. Blades won’t come to [just to] cash a check. He and his whole team are coming to win.”

“It’s a big fight with Lucian Bute on Jan. 18, but by Jean fighting on Sept. 28, it will keep him motivated to keep training and he will want to look good against George Blades,” Michel said. “Blades is not a world champion but anyone can look good if you’re not well prepared. So Jean wants to use that fight as a preparation step for the fight after against Bute. We all believe having Pascal back in the ring will revive the popularity around the Pascal-Bute fight after it was postponed. Having Jean fighting will put it back in people’s minds and after Sept. 28 we will re-launch the marketing around the Pascal-Bute fight.”

GOLDEN BOY PROMOTIONS SIGNS YOANDRIS SALINAS AND LUIS ORTIZ TO CO-PROMOTIONAL DEALS WITH DREAM TEAM PROMOTIONS

LOS ANGELES, August 29 – Unbeaten as a professional, former Cuban amateur great Yoandris “El Nino” Salinas will get the opportunity of a lifetime on Saturday, September 28 when he travels to Manchester, England to face Scott Quigg for the vacant WBA Super Bantamweight World Championship, his first fight under the co-promotional banner of Golden Boy Promotions and Dream Team Promotions.

“We’re excited to have Yoandris as part of the Golden Boy Promotions roster and to be working with Dream Team Promotions in taking him to a world title and then to the biggest fights that can be made for him at 122 pounds,” said Richard Schaefer, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions. “His amateur record speaks for itself, and he’s been building up an impressive resume as a professional as well, so there’s no question that he’s ready for the best in the world.”

A veteran of over 300 amateur bouts, 27-year-old Yoandris Salinas (20-0-1, 13 KO’s) compiled an amazing record of 301-16 that included four Cuban National championships, a Bronze medal in the Pan Am Games and a Gold medal in the World Cup. In 2009, the Ciego de Avila native moved to Miami, Florida to begin his professional career, and he has since won 20 of his 21 bouts, earning the WBC Latino and WBA Fedebol titles. Winner of seven straight, Salinas is coming off a 10-round victory over Eliecer Lanzas last October, setting the stage for his September title fight on the undercard of the David Haye vs. Tyson Fury bout at the Manchester Arena (promoted by Matchroom Boxing and Hayemaker Promotions).

Golden Boy Promotions is also pleased to announce an alliance with Dream Team Promotions to co-promote another unbeaten former Cuban amateur star, heavyweight Luis “El Mercedez” Ortiz.

“Luis is a welcome addition to our team, and he’s got the talent and experience to shake up the heavyweight division,” said Schaefer. “I can’t wait to see what he can do with the top fighters in the division. I know he’s ready for the challenges ahead.”

With an amateur record of 343-19, Camaguey native Luis Ortiz (19-0, 16 KO’s, 1 NC) was a Two-Time National Champion and a gold medal winner in the World Cup. Now living in Miami, Florida, the 34-year-old is making a mark as a professional with wins over Kendrick Releford and Francisco Alvarez, 10 knockouts in three rounds or less and four regional titles. Now he’s looking to tackle the top talent in the heavyweight division.

FLOYD MAYWEATHER MEDIA DAY IN LAS VEGAS ‘MONEY’: ‘I WAS BORN FOR THIS’

Floyd_Mayweather
LAS VEGAS (Aug. 29, 2013) – Seventeen days before the record-breaking “THE ONE: MAYWEATHER VS. CANELO” mega-event on Saturday, Sept. 14, from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nev., live on SHOWTIME PPV®,, boxing superstar Floyd “Money” Mayweather hosted the biggest Media Day of his career Wednesday at The Mayweather Boxing Club.

Hordes of media from around the world crammed into the upscale gym in Las Vegas to watch the Eight-Time and Five-Division World Champion (44-0, 26 KO’s) as he continued to prepare for his long-awaited showdown against WBC, WBA & Ring Magazine Super Welterweight World Champion Canelo Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 KO’s) during Mexican Independence Day Weekend.

During his Media Day, which lasted nearly three hours, a confident, relaxed and chiseled Mayweather did countless interviews, posed for photos and worked out. His workout consisted of hitting the mitts, hitting the heavyweight bag, hitting the speed bag, jumping rope, stretching and doing calisthenics.

Viewers who watched a live stream of the proceedings also got to watch Mayweather get a haircut in his dressing room before heading for his workout.

FLOYD MAYWEATHER

“This was just a light workout today; it was cool. I appreciate all the media coming out and the fans for supporting me throughout my career. It’s been truly a blessing.

“I think I’ll be a lot sharper for this fight. My training camp has been great. Actually, this is one of my best training camps I’ve had, probably since 2005. On my first day back, I got right back into sparring. I think I sparred seven rounds. So as of now, my training camp’s been smooth. My dad is happy, Leonard (Ellerbe) is happy, Al (Haymon) is happy and I’m happy. I’ve been boxing a lot of rounds so I’m sharp. I’m in great condition and happy to get right back in there. I feel tremendous.

“My weight is made. I came into training camp weighing 150 or 149 and I came into the gym today probably weighing 150 or 149.

“Canelo is a solid competitor but it is what it is: I’ve faced the best in this sport, I know what it takes to be involved in a fight of this magnitude and I’m dedicated to my craft. I was born for this.

“This is a great matchup. He’s a puncher. I’m a sharp boxer. You know, a lot of times I hit these guys and I make them go into survival mode. Even in the Robert Guerrero fight I was looking for the knockout, but I hurt my hand. So I wasn’t impressed with myself — because I didn’t get the knockout. This time around, I’ll be looking for the knockout.

“He’s banking on his youth, I’m banking I on my experience. I have a lot of experience in championship fights. Look at his resume, look at my resume and see what you come up with.

“I can’t talk about the past, but I can talk about the present time and I can talk about the future. The present time is, I’m undefeated, and the future is, I’m going to continue to work hard and give the fans what they want to see.

“On Sept. 14, I just want everybody around the world to tune in and enjoy a great night of boxing.”

(More on facing Canelo)

“He’s no pushover; I can’t overlook him. I just have to go out and execute the game plan and do what I do best. Nothing worries me. I can make adjustments.

“He is one of the best in boxing at this particular time. He’s young and strong. He’s got guts so we’ll see how the fight plays out.

“It’s not about the weight, it’s about the skills. The skills pay the bills. I can’t wait to get in there and compete and test my skills against this young guy. I feel good, I’m still hungry.”

(On Canelo’s opposition)

“Did Canelo KO Austin Trout? This is a whole different ballgame. He may be predicting a knockout but all you have to do is look at the opponents he’s faced. I really don’t know too many, but a lot of the guys went the distance with him. And we’re not just talking about A-fighters but D- and C-fighters. Guys that he should have knocked out in the fourth round, they were able to go into the eighth and ninth rounds even though they were caught with numerous shots.’

“I don’t think Ricky Hatton’s brother is on the level of a Floyd Mayweather.”

(On notion that Canelo will stop him)

“Oscar said he was gonna knock me out also. Did you see what happened in that fight? People are entitled to do their opinion. People are going to say what they’re going to say. My job is to be the best I can be and continue to do my job. There’s a reason I do record-breaking numbers.

“My last fight against Guerrero, he thought it was just gonna be easy. A lot of times people, fighters, look from the outside and think to themselves, ‘this can’t be that difficult,’ but once they get inside that squared circle with me it’s totally different.”

(Gameplan)

“I’m going to show him a lot of angles. I have a lot of experience, and experience is going to be a factor. It’s going to be real, real different for him at this level.”

(On Canelo’s Popularity)

“Among Hispanic/Mexican/Latin fighters, I don’t really know who has the biggest following but if I had to say so, I would say probably (Juan Manuel) Marquez because he has accomplished more and done a lot for the sport of boxing. So I don’t support the thought (or subscribe to the feeling) that Canelo has a bigger following than (Marquez).”

(On why Canelo took this fight)

“I can’t really say. Of course, sometimes some people want their No 1 spot, not just No. 1 in (their) weight class but they want to be known as the best in their sport. They want all the attention, the paydays, the money. (For me) this took years and years of hard work and dedication, belief and a strong team.”

(His hands)

“I went to three different doctors after the Guerrero fight. Everything is OK.”

(Staying ahead of the game)

“Every guy I face is always heavier. I think I’m just a very, very sharp fighter. I stay mentally sharp; by that I mean I stay five or six steps ahead of my opponents. This is chess, not checkers. These are moves you have to think about. At this level, you’ve got to get 10 steps ahead of your opponent.”

(On what it takes to remain at the top)

“You’ve got to be mentally tough, push yourself to the limit, be physically sharp, have a great chin and a tremendous heart.”

(The ONE 10-city media tour)

“The tour was wild, crazy. It started in New York and ended in Los Angeles. I think it was great for me, Canelo Alvarez, the chance to embrace the fans and also to get the chance to go to Mexico. I have a lot of fans in Mexico.”

(Fighters that impress him)

“I like Leo Santa Cruz. He’s unbelievable. I think he should be on the pound-for-pound list.”

(On Garcia-Matthysse)

“Both fighters at 140 pounds are really tough punchers and great fighters. I can’t see it going the distance.”

(Still The ONE)

“I’m the face of boxing and I’m happy that I was able to transcend and change the sport in a totally different way. At one particular time in the late 70’s, 80’s and all the way to the 90’s, it was all about the heavyweights. Then I came in and brought attention to the smaller guys. I think I’ve done a lot for the sport of boxing, and boxing has done a lot for me.”
LEONARD ELLERBE, CEO of Mayweather Promotions

“This is the fight that the fans wanted. They demanded it, and this is the fight that Floyd wanted. In my opinion, this fight will be the biggest in the history of the sport.

“Canelo fought on a few of our undercards. We know what he brings to the table. He is a tremendous fighter, he is the biggest star in Mexico and he has a tremendous following. Floyd has a lot of Mexican fans, too. He loves Mexico. Mexicans are intelligent fans. They know the sport of boxing. Floyd has defeated a number of Mexican fighters and he has a tremendous amount of respect for their history and their fighters.

“I think now is the right time for this fight to happen. Canelo is coming off a big victory with Austin Trout and Floyd with Guerrero. This is The ONE.

“An active Floyd Mayweather … WOW.”

ISHE SMITH, IBF Junior Middleweight Champion

“It’s been an amazing last six months. I was honored with an “Ishe Smith Day.” It’s been a rollercoaster ride for me since the days of The Contender and it was tough, and it hurt, but to be a world champion now and have Floyd behind me is just really exciting. I am blessed.

“One thing Floyd told me: ‘I can get you to the door but then it is up to you. On Sept. 14 (when he defends against Carlos Molina), this is another opportunity where he shows me the door.

“And like I did in Detroit (when he won the title over Cornelius Bundrage), I plan on knocking that door down again.”

ASHLEY THEOPHANE, Former Brisith Junior Welterweight Champion who faces Pablo Cesar Cano in opening bout of pay-per-view telecast

“You know this has been my dream since I was five years old. I watched Mike Tyson and Sugar Ray Leonard and was inspired by them. It’s been an amazing journey. America has opened up and welcomed me as well as the Money Team.

“This is the biggest fight of my life, and I know I need to come out victorious. It is a magnificent card; you’ve got three world champions on there.”

“Brooklyn has become our second home, so it’s only fitting that we come back to help celebrate Barclays Center’s first anniversary with a stacked card,” said Oscar De La Hoya president of Golden Boy Promotions. “The recently signed Sadam Ali is a perfect headliner, as he is a Brooklyn native and unbeaten former Olympian. Plus we have Michael Perez vs. Carlos Molina in an explosive matchup between two fighters hungry for a big win.”

“As we head into year two, Barclays Center has established itself as the home for major boxing on the East Coast,” said Brett Yormark, CEO of Barclays Center. “We are looking forward to welcoming Brooklyn’s own Sadam Ali and are thrilled to team with Golden Boy Promotions for another great night of boxing at Barclays Center.”

“There’s no place like home,” said Brooklyn fighter Sadam Ali. “I’ve seen some great fights at Barclays Center and I have waited for my name to be called to fight here. Now that day has come and I couldn’t be more excited. This is going to be a performance and a win you won’t forget.”

“Sadam Ali’s a great talent with a bright future, but I’ve been waiting years for an opportunity like this and I can’t let it slide,” said Jay Krupp. “I’ve been a fighter my whole life and that’s what this is going to be on September 30, a fight.”

A decorated amateur boxer who was a Junior Olympic, PAL and Under-19 National Champion, as well as a two-time New York Golden Gloves Champion, 24-year-old
Sadam “World Kid” Ali (16-0, 10 KO’s) reached the pinnacle of the amateur game in 2008 when he represented the United States in the Beijing Games. In January of 2009, “World Kid”, who is of Yemen descent, turned professional with a first round technical knockout over Ricky Thompson. Ali has gone on to become a popular fighter in the New York and New Jersey area putting together win after win against increasingly tougher opposition. In his most recent fight on October 27, he knocked out Ronnie Warrior Jr. in the second round.

A native of New Orleans, Louisiana now making his home in Catskill, New York,
“Smokin” Jay Krupp (17-5, 8 KO’s) is a nine-year pro who gained notoriety for being trained by the man who brought Mike Tyson to prominence, Kevin Rooney. Winner of three straight fights, the 30-year-old Krupp most recently won a hard fought eight-round unanimous decision over Milton Ramos on June 21.

Newark’s Michael “The Artist” Perez (18-1-2, 10 KO’s) is a gritty 23-year-old fighter who will do whatever it takes to get the win. In 2010, Perez left his mark as a prospect to watch with his eight-round win over Jose Hernandez, a bout that was a definite “Fight of the Year” candidate. Since then, Perez is unbeaten in five of his last six bouts with the only loss to recently crowned World Champion Omar Figueroa Jr. and a technical draw with Lonnie Smith due to a cut from a clash of heads. Unbeaten in New York, Perez hopes to keep the streak going on September 30 in front of his local fans.

A product of the ultra-competitive Southern California boxing scene, where the battles in the gym are as intense as the ones on fight night, Carlos Molina (17-1-1, 7 KO’s) has emerged as a top prospect ready to take his game to the next level. Coming off of a tough 10-round meeting with former Unified World Champion Amir Khan last December, the 27-year-old Molina is eager to get back in the ring in his comfortable weight class of 135 pounds and show off the crisp counterpunching form that has led him to 17 victories thus far in his professional career.

Unbeaten as a professional, Staten Island’s “Sir” Marcus Browne (6-0, 6 KO’s) has made a seamless adjustment from the amateurs (where he represented the United States in the 2012 Olympics) to the pros. Fresh from a knockout victory over Robert Hill on the first Golden Boy Live! card on August 19, the 22-year-old will take a big step up against Engel on September 30. This will be Browne’s fourth time fighting in his adopted home at Barclays Center.

St. Louis’ Kevin “Hitman” Engel (20-8, 16 KO’s) is a hard-hitting veteran ready to push Browne to the limit. Having been in the ring with Anthony Dirrell, Thomas Williams Jr., Edwin Rodriguez and Dallas Vargas, the 33-year-old has the experience and power to make it a rough night for the highly-touted Browne in Brooklyn.

Mares to take immediate rematch against Gonzalez

Abner Mares
According to Dan Rafael of espn.com, former three division world champion Abner Mares will invoke his rematch clause and will face Jhonny Gonzalez next despite being knocked out in the first round last Saturday night.

“When we prepared the contract with Golden Boy, I made sure we had a rematch clause,” Frank Espinoza, Mares’ manager, told ESPN.com on Thursday.

Espinoza said he hopes that the bout can take place in December and is talking to Golden Boy chief executive Richard Schaefer about a deal.

“Abner wants the rematch,” Schaefer said. “He has a rematch clause and wants to do it before the end of the year. Abner called me himself and said, ‘I want to set the record straight and exercise my rematch option. This was nothing, it wasn’t a fight. I want to fight the guy again and I want to take care of it this year.'”

“Abner just wants to get right back in the ring with this guy,” Espinoza said. “You can’t judge that fight by one punch. It wasn’t even a fight. But Abner came out healthy. It was one punch and it happens to the best in boxing.”

“The way Abner is, he wants to come back and avenge his loss and prove himself,” Espinoza said. “Abner has always wanted to fight the best. After the fight, he called me and said, ‘Frank, I want to come back and I want to fight him again this year.’ Abner said he’s ready to go. He’s not afraid to fight anyone. So I said, ‘Let’s do it,’ and I reached out to Richard Schaefer. He said he would work on it for December.”

“Richard’s going to work on it for December, but if we can’t get it done then we may have to wait until January, but my understanding is that December looks good,” Espinoza said.

“But Abner was very clear that he wants the fight next,” Schaefer said. “I don’t know if I can do it this year because it’s a pretty big fight and those kind of fights are expensive, but I will work on it and I will talk to Showtime about it.”

The #1-ranked 165lb. ASHLEY THEOPHANE ON SPARRING FLOYD MAYWEATHER AND HIS SEPT 14th FIGHT

I’ve officially been a member of Mayweather Promotions for just over two weeks now – and it feels great!
My fight with Pablo Cesar Cano has been signed and sealed for September 14th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
I’m the PPV opener for Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather vs. Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez showdown. Which is a huge honour and a huge responsibility, handed to me by Leonard Ellerbe and Floyd himself.

My fight will be followed by my team mate, and world champion, Ishe Smith, as he defends his world title against Carlos Molina. My former opponent, who is currently world champion, Danny Garcia will face the dangerous Lucas Matthysse in the co-main event.
Then the fight everybody has been waiting for – “Mayweather-Canelo” will happen. This is the best PPV card that I can remember, by a long way – I might be just that little bit biased, but it’s a brilliant card. Floyd already holds the record for most PPV ‘buys’ for his fight with Oscar De La Hoya, and this looks like beating it.
Over the last two weeks I’ve been very busy and challenged, sparring world champions Floyd Mayweather and Ishe Smith, Al Haymon fighter, Dequan Arnett and world title challenger, Arash Usmanee. It is really top level stuff.
I do road work with two world champions in Floyd and Ishe. They both motivate and inspire me. They are never short of words of advice, which is always appreciated.
On Saturday at 6am, the Money team fighters hit Mount Charleston. It is always a hard suffocating run, but one that brings much mental satisfaction once completed.
The Nevada Boxing Hall Of Fame evening was hosted by the Monte Carlo hotel and casino, it was a fantastic event. Boxing legends Mike Tyson, Sugar Ray Leonard, Larry Holmes and Earnie Shavers were in-attendance. Legendary promoters Don King and Bob Arum were also there. Floyd won an award for ‘Fighter of the Year’ and Ishe Smith was presented with an award for being the first Las Vegas born fighter to win a world title belt.
One half of my coaching team from New York City, Jihad Abdul Aziz arrived in Las Vegas to assist Nate Jones in getting me primed and ready for September 14th. He’s been here a week and we’ve been putting in hard and quality work.
Those at the top of the mountain didn’t just fall there. Putting in hard work and believing in yourself, especially when many people doubt you, will see you achieve your dreams or at least create opportunities.
It’s been a long hard road to the top of this particular mountain, but to have the number one boxer in the world recognize my talent, and present me with such a great opportunity, has made the hard work and dedication all worthwhile.
I must add without René Carayol, this wouldn’t be possible. He also saw my potential, believed in my talent and backed me to help make my dreams reality.
This week saw Ishe Smith, Danny Garcia, Lucas Matthysse, Carlos Molina, Pablo Cano and I conduct a conference call with the media. Over 30 journalists took part, and it was really great to hear all the fighters sounding confident, as we prepare for the biggest fights of our lives.
Ishe Smith and I did a TV Interview at Fox 5 studios on Friday, it was good fun. We spoke about our careers and promoted the ‘back to school’ drive which happened on Saturday. It was a privilege to be part of a genuine good cause giving to school kids and their parents. As most parents around the world know, it is not cheap to buy your kids the necessary school clothes, laptops, books and pens. I’ve seen just how hard it is for most parents first hand, so helping out and putting a smile on the kids and parents face was so worthwhile.
I finished off the week with a much needed 90 minute sports massage.
Just 4 weeks until ‘The One’ is here in Las Vegas. I’m working as hard as is possibly can, every day. This is the chance of a lifetime.
Prepare for fireworks!

Golovkin to defend against Stevens on November 2nd

Gennady Golovkin
According to Dan Rafael of espn.com, WBA Middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin will defend his title against Curtis Stevens on November 2nd at the Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York.

“Gennady has proven himself to be one of the most popular fighters in the sport. Since his knockout over Matthew Macklin in June, there has been an unprecedented amount of interest from fans and media about his next fight,” said Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions, which represents Golovkin. “While many of the top names in the middleweight division have been reluctant to fight Gennady, we commend Curtis Stevens for the direct and aggressive path he’s taken to making this world title bout.”

“Everyone put ya money on ‘GGG’ so I could be like 30-1. I could get more money,” Stevens tweeted Wednesday.

“I think it’s a really great fight in the ring and we have a real live ‘dog here,” said Main Events chief executive Kathy Duva, Stevens’ promoter. “Curtis has to fight a different fight than Macklin did, that’s for sure, but there’s no point to talking about the strategy. Curtis has the opportunity, and now he has to capitalize on it.

“He has a great amateur background and world-class punch. Golovkin is a tremendous puncher, and I think he’s the best middleweight in the world, but when you have skills and a world-class punch like Curtis has, you can beat anyone. For anyone who doubts that Curtis can do it, I have two words for them: Jhonny Gonzalez.”

DIEGO DE LA HOYA SIGNS WITH JOEL DE LA HOYA’S JDLHmgmnt; SET FOR PROFESSIONAL DEBUT

LOS ANGELES — August 28, 2013 — The De La Hoya family will soon add another professional boxer to its ranks, as Diego De La Hoya signs with JDLHmgmnt in advance of his professional debut on September 12th in Las Vegas. His debut is the culmination of an accomplished amateur career, having had over 250 amateur bouts, and winning a silver medal in the Mexican Olympic Nationals. Diego follows in the footsteps of his cousin, “Golden Boy” Oscar De La Hoya.

Diego narrowly missed the opportunity to fight in the 2012 Olympics in London, losing a close fight to now professional standout Oscar Valdez. Diego’s subsequent plan, which included a bid for the 2016 games in Rio, was scrapped when changes were made to the AIBA rules, disallowing head gear. “If I’m going to fight without head gear, I might as well get paid for it,” said Diego on going pro. “I am very happy to have signed with the best company in boxing. This is a great opportunity for me, and I have to take advantage of it. I feel very happy and very motivated for September 12th, which will be my debut, and my opportunity to show people that another De La Hoya has arrived in boxing”.

The signing is the fourth for JDLHmgmnt, which also manages undefeated Golden Boy Promotions fighters Julian “El Camaron” Ramirez, Hugo “The Boss” Centeno and Francisco “El Bandido” Vargas. “I’ve watched Diego grow up in boxing, and we’re very excited for this signing,” said JDLHmgmnt founder Joel De La Hoya. “This is another great addition to the management company. It makes it even more special that he’s family. My job is to take him to the top, and between Golden Boy Promotions and myself, I think we’re going to be able to do that for him.”

Diego has relocated from Mexicali, Mexico to California, and will be training with Joel Diaz at Joel Diaz Boxing in Indio. Said Diaz, “It’s an honor having the kid here. He has a good resume. He was part of the Mexican Olympic Team. He wants to learn, and likes to work. He has a lot of potential, and has a devastating left hook. I like working with a kid like that.”

Diego’s professional debut will be televised on FOX Sports 2 and FOX Deportes. Tickets for the bout are available via Ticketmaster or through the MGM Grand Box Office, and are priced $100, $75, $50 and $25.

After helping his brother Oscar navigate the waters of boxing, Joel De La Hoya founded JDLHmgmnt in 2011 to help talented, dedicated athletes achieve success in the sport.

CANELO ALVAREZ MEDIA WORKOUT A SMASHING SUCCESS AS REPORTERS PACK GYM TO SEE YOUNG SUPERSTAR

Saul Alvarez
BIG BEAR LAKE, Calif. (Aug. 28, 2013) – Dozens of TV camera crews, newspaper reporters, photographers, online boxing media and bloggers made the 100-plus mile trek up the mountain to Big Bear Lake from the Los Angeles area on Tuesday to catch their final glimpse of WBC, WBA & Ring Magazine Super Welterweight World Champion Canelo Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 KO’s) before he travels to Las Vegas for his mega-showdown with undefeated Eight-Time and Five-Division World Champion Floyd “Money” Mayweather (44-0, 26 KO’s) as they headline “THE ONE: MAYWEATHER VS. CANELO” fight card on Saturday, Sept. 14, from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nev., live on SHOWTIME PPV®.

During his two-hour media workout at Shane Mosley’s jam-packed home gym, that was streamed live on YouTube, UStream, sports.sho.com/live, http://www.goldenboypromotions.com, and http://www.mayweatherpromotions.com, the super welterweight world champion did countless interviews, some in groups and others in one-on-ones. He also hit the heavy bag, sparred several rounds with weighted gloves and did calisthenics as 50’s doo-wop and early 60’s music blared in the background.

The freckled-faced, red-haired 23-year-old Canelo has been staying at Mosley’s house and working out at his home gym for about a month. The young superstar is scheduled to leave Sunday for Las Vegas.
Below is what Canelo, as cool, calm, collected and confident as always, his trainer Chepo Reynoso, hid older brother Ricardo and Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya said Tuesday:

CANELO ALVAREZ, Unified Super Welterweight World Champion

(Opening comments)

“I feel good about myself and can’t wait to get in the ring. I’m ready for this.

“I’m working very hard and doing my job. Even though I’m young, I have a lot of experience. That’s why I asked for this.

“This will be a tough physical fight, but I feel I have a lot of advantages. I am working on the things I can take advantage of.”

(On training in Big Bear)

“Big Bear has been great. It is one of the greatest places to train. Even though it is a lot of work, I’ve been enjoying this camp. We’ve accomplished everything here that we set out to do.”

(On making the contracted weight of 152 pounds, two less than his normal fighting limit)

“The weight is not going to be a factor. I’ll be fine for the fight. It’s no big thing. Actually, I feel I’m ahead of the curve. I’m not worried at all. It (the weight) will come off and I will be fine.

“Actually in some ways I’m in my best shape, or will be. Before I fought Austin Trout, I’d been off longer than I will be for this fight. I needed a lot of time to prepare for Trout. So, in some ways for this camp, my work has been easier.”

(On his potential)

“I’ve always said that I’ve never fought to my potential but that’s because I’ve never had an opponent to bring it out. I feel that maybe Mayweather will be the one to bring it out.

“I’m not coming just to fight, I’m coming to win.”

(On feeling he doesn’t get the proper respect)

“I think a lot of people underestimate me, but those people are mostly critics, reporters. You never hear anything from the guys I fight. It’s only from those outside the ring that think I am beatable.”

(On fighting on Mexican Independence Day Weekend)

“This is a big day, an important time. It’s Mexican Independence day. I know I’ll have a lot of people there to support me.”

(On studying film)

“I’ve studied tapes of the fights he (Mayweather) had trouble in, like those against Miguel Cotto and Jose Luis Castillo. I’m looking for ways to penetrate Mayweather’s defense like they did. Cotto had success, but couldn’t maintain it. I plan to maintain it.”

“I don’t think it’s important to get off to a fast start and just win the early rounds. I want to win all the rounds. All the rounds are important, from the first to the last and I want to win them all.”

(Toughest part of being at training camp and away from home)

“I miss not seeing my daughter. I miss not being with her.”

OSCAR DE LA HOYA, President of Golden Boy Promotions

“I remember the first time I fought in a fight like this, a fight of this magnitude, and how I excited I was. Fighting on Mexican Independence Day is such an honor. You know both guys are going to be in great shape and it is going to be an exciting main event. But I’m betting on my horse. I feel it could be time for the changing of the guard.

“This is going to be a very interesting night of boxing, and definitely a memorable one. It’s already a record-breaking event and now we’ll see if it breaks the (pay-per-view) record. With all the social and media outlets out there, chances are that it might.”

CHEPO REYNOSO, Canelo’s Trainer

“I’ve known Canelo since he began to box when he was 13. [Co-trainer] Eddie [Reynoso] and I have been with him from the start. He’s the same kid now as he was then, very humble yet very dedicated.

“Canelo was always very strong but now he possesses the intelligence. We always knew from day one that he would be great.

“Floyd Sr. has said some negative things about Eddie and I. He’s questioned us as cornermen and trainers. Well, we’ve had five world champions and been involved in 40 world title fights. The Mayweathers [Floyd Sr., Roger and Jeff] may be more popular and well-known because they were pro fighters, but it doesn’t hurt their reputations that they work with a superstar.

“I think after Canelo wins on September 14, people will realize that he has a pretty good corner too. Eddie and I may not have the reputation that the Mayweathers have, but we know we can do the job. People will see on Sept. 14.

“Watching Canelo win, watching Floyd Mayweather go down, that’s our ultimate goal.”

RICARDO ALVAREZ, Canelo’s Brother (Eight years older)

“Our entire family is very excited and motivated for this fight. We’ve known since the very beginning how great Canelo could be. The magnitude of this fight is enormous, but there is no doubt in any of our minds that he is going to win.

“Around the house, he was always called ‘Saul.’ Of course, worldwide, he is known mostly as ‘Canelo.’ But for me, his older brother, he will always be known as ‘Pecas’ [which translated into English means ‘Freckles’].”

“Freckles” will try to leave his mark on Mayweather and the boxing world on Sept. 14.

“THE ONE: MAYWEATHER VS. CANELO,” a 12-round fight for Canelo’s WBC, WBA and Ring Magazine Super Welterweight World Championships and Mayweather’s WBA Super Welterweight Super World Championship taking place Saturday, Sept. 14 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, is promoted by Mayweather Promotions, Golden Boy Promotions and Canelo Promotions and sponsored by Corona, O’Reilly Auto Parts, AT&T, Valvoline, Mexico Tourism, Fred Loya Insurance and Nature Nutrition. In the 12-round co-featured attraction, WBC, WBA Super and Ring Magazine Super Lightweight World Champion Danny Garcia and thunderous puncher WBC Interim Super Lightweight World Champion Lucas Matthysse square off in a fight presented in association with Swift Promotions and Arano Box Promotions. Also, Ishe Smith vs. Carlos Molina square off in a 12-round battle for Smith’s IBF Junior Middleweight World Title which is promoted in association with Warriors Boxing. The opening bout on SHOWTIME PPV features a 10-round welterweight showdown between Pablo Cesar Cano and Ashley Theophane. The mega-event will be produced and distributed live by SHOWTIME PPV® beginning at 9:00 p.m. ET/6:00 p.m. PT. The event can be heard in Spanish using secondary audio programming (SAP).

Less than 24 hours after going on sale in June, the event was sold out, but six MGM Resorts properties will host live closed circuit telecasts of “THE ONE.” Properties showcasing the event include ARIA, MGM Grand, Mandalay Bay, The Mirage, Monte Carlo and New York-New York. General admission tickets for the closed circuit telecasts are priced at $100, not including handling fees, and are available for purchase at each individual property’s box office outlets and also are available for purchase by phone with a major credit card at 866-799-7711. Closed circuit ticket sales are limited to eight (8) per person. Tickets also are available through Ticketmaster by calling (800) 745-3000 or online at www.ticketmaster.com. “THE ONE” will also be broadcast on nearly 550 select movie theaters across the country. Tickets are available at participating theater box offices and online at www.FathomEvents.com.

WealthTV rebrands as AWE, A Wealth of Entertainment, on October 1st

SAN DIEGO, CA –August 26, 2013 – WealthTV, one of the initial 24/7 all high definition cable networks which launched back in June 2004, announced today that it will rebrand to AWE effective October 1st.

Since its launch, WealthTV has provided viewers with a broad range of aspirational lifestyle and entertainment programming. The rebranding to AWE, an acronym for “A Wealth of Entertainment”, better reflects the broad appeal of the network’s programming lineup and viewership.

“Our rebranding to AWE refreshes the network and addresses misperceptions that the old network name was financial related or elitist”, stated network president, Charles Herring. “Our programming lineup, featuring exotic travel destinations, fast cars, and outrageous homes, is awe-inspiring and now the name properly captures those viewing emotions.”

According to network executives the rebranding efforts are a name change only, with no modifications to the existing programming theme. The rebranding campaign, which has been in the works for nearly a year, has been heavily researched, including test marketed on a current cable provider.

The network is currently available nationally on Verizon FiOS TV channel 169 and 669 in HD, AT&T U-Verse TV channels 470 and 1470 in HD, along with over 100 cable systems across the country and worldwide. The new website for AWE is www.AWEtv.com.

About AWE

AWE is the premier lifestyle and entertainment network —the destination for exclusive and original programming, simultaneously transmitted in high definition and standard definition. AWE delivers informative shows to its viewers, providing invaluable insights on what every American dreams of – from travel secrets to fast cars, from outrageous homes to live boxing events, and much more. The network fills a television vacuum by delivering intellectually stimulating, thought-provoking entertainment and always-unbiased news from an insider’s perspective.
