TRAVIS KAUFFMAN TO TAKE ON ARRON LYONS ON AUGUST 23RD AT THE VALLEY FORGE CASINO RESORT
VALLEY FORGE, PA (August 11, 2013)—On Friday night, August 23rd, WBA #13 ranked Heavyweight Travis Kauffman will take on upset minded Arron Lyons in an eight round co-feature at the Valley Forge Casino Resort.
The show which is promoted by Kings Boxing will be headlined by a ten round Pennsylvania Lightweight championship bout between undefeated champion Naim Nelson (10-0, 1 KO) of Philadelphia defending his title against Ryan Belasco (18-5-3, 3 KO’s) of Wilmingtin, Delaware in a bout scheduled for ten rounds.
Kauffman of Reading, PA has a record of 24-1 with 18 knockouts and the former amateur star won his first eighteen bouts with big wins over Malachy Farrell and William Shahan.
After suffering his only blemish which was a controversial loss to Tony Grano, Kauffman has won six in a row which includes wins over Chris Koval and his last bout when he took out Willie Perryman in one round on February 15th.
“I don’t much on Lyons except that he is durable and goes rounds and he has upset some guys like Joey Abell”, said Kauffman.
“I am not just going in there to knock people out and on August 23rd I am looking for a stellar performance”.
“I know now that I am ranked every fight is a steppingstone and I know I have to dominate Lyons.”
Kauffman knows that being world ranked, that a big fight could be near.
“Whatever is in the future, let it be”
Kauffman is ready to fight anyone at the top of the division, but circumstances have prevented him from taking that defining figjt.
“I was called to fight Tomasz Adamek but they took Dominick Guinn. Adamek is a hell of a fighter but I feel I can beat him. I was offered a fight with undefeated WBA #2 ranked Luis Ortiz but it was only four weeks’ notice for very short money. This is a business and the risk outweighed the reward. I am taking this one day at a time, I have had injuries problems such as three hand surgeries, and ankle and shoulder problems but now I am completely healthy and ready to look to big things in my future”
Lyons of Gulfport, Mississippi has a record of 12-12-1 with nine knockouts and has the aforementioned win over Abell plus two wins over Gabe Brown and a win over Lenroy Thomas.
Lyons has also been in the ring with Charles Ellis, Eugene Hill, Johnnie White, Damian Wills, Luis Ortiz and Kelvin Price.
The rest of the card is as follows:
Frankie De Alba (8-1-2, 3 KO’s) of Reading, PA via Bayamon, PR will take on an opponent to be named in a six round Super Featherweight bout.
Miguel Cartagena (7-0, 3 KO’s) of Philadelphia will take on Miguel Eduardo in a four round Bantamweight bout.

SPONG EARNS DECISION VICTORY OVER ANGEL DEANDA IN THRILLING FOURTH EVENT FOR WORLD SERIES OF FIGHTING
Aug. 10, ONTARIO, Calif. – Ten-time world kickboxing champion Tyrone “King of the Ring” Spong (2-0) earned his second career mixed-martial-arts victory, outstriking an inedibly tough Angel “The Dream” DeAnda over the course of the three-round headliner of Saturday night’s “World Series of Fighting 4: Spong vs. DeAnda” event.
The NBC Sports Network televised event drew a crowd of 5,000 fans at Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, Calif.
Spong was patient throughout the 15-minute contest, calmly walking forward and picking DeAnda apart with thunderous leg kicks and powerful punches. DeAnda was hobbled from the low kicks in the second frame, but he refused to quit and constantly looked for opportunities to launch his own attacks.
Spong turned up the heat in the final round, slashing at the legs and firing punches to the chin. DeAnda never backed down, returning fire until the very end, but it was Spong who was awarded the clearcut unanimous-decision win.
“I went in with no expectations, and I wanted to feel him out and see what he was made of,” Spong said. “DeAnda is a strong guy. He surprised me with how much punishment he was able to take.”
In the night’s bantamweight co-feature, top-ranked fighter Marlon Moraes improved to 3-0 as a World Series of Fighting athlete, dominating a tough Brandon Hempleman throughout an entertaining 15-minute matchup.
Moraes’ aggressive striking and technical Muay Thai cut Hempleman’s forehead in the opening round, and his powerful leg kicks left his opponent hopping on one leg in the second. But even with the blood flowing and his movement limited, Hempleman continued to press forward, waving to the crowd as he tried to turn the tide.
Moraes, who suffered a broken finger and injured foot in the opening 10 minutes, slowed his attack in the final frame, but the spectacular performance through the first two rounds was enough to earn him a unanimous-decision win, 30-27 on all three judges’ cards.
“Man, that guy was tough,” Moraes said after the win. “He just kept coming forward.”
The incredible story of lightweight Nick Newell (10-0) earned another heartwarming chapter on Saturday night, as he scored a first-round submission win over Keon Caldwell (9-2).
Newell, who bas born with a condition known as congenital amputation and has just one fully-formed arm, slipped under an early Caldwell striking attempt and took him to the floor. Caldwell quickly returned to the feet, but Newell instantly deposited him on the canvas a second time. Once he was firm in top position, Newell quickly latched in a guillotine choke and rolled off to his side and squeezed, earning the tap at the 2:07 mark of the first.
“It was a great honor to fight in front of this crowd and all the troops that came out to support me,” Newell said. “Can’t wait to do it again.”
In a featured heavyweight attraction, heavyweight Dave Huckaba (21-5) earned an impressive second-round finish of kickboxing legend and World Series of Fighting President Ray Sefo (2-2).
Sefo appeared to be getting the better of Huckaba as the action unfolded in the second round. Sharp leg kicks left Huckaba limping, and Sefo fired in several staggering punches, as well. With Huckaba fading, Sefo launched a massive high kick toward his opponent’s head, but it missed by mere inches. Huckaba alertly slipped the strike and unleashed a furious flurry of counter punches, scoring first with uppercuts and then a barrage of hooks to a covering Sefo that forced a halt to the bout with 28 seconds left in the second round.
“Right now, I am on top of the world,” Huckaba said after the win. “I can’t even describe what I am feeling. Nobody except my team thought I could win this fight. I mean, I was fighting a legend, right?
“This is such a dream come true. Can you believe this? I got my chance and made the most of it.”
The bout is expected to serve as the final appearance of Sefo’s Hall of Fame career.
Veteran lightweights Gesias “JZ” Cavalcante and Tyson Girffin combined to put on an exciting standup battle in the night’s first main-card contest.
The pair took turns trading heavy shots for the opening two rounds, with Cavalcante pressing forward and Griffin expertly countering as he circled on the outside. Both fighters were willing to engage, and the ensuing battles brought the crowd to its feet.
With the fight even heading into the final round, Cavalcante scored a key takedown and moved to his opponent’s back. With Griffin trapped underneath him, Cavalcante punched away with one hand while looking for the choke with the other. Referee Jason McCoy warned Griffin to advance his position and ultimately elected to call the fight 97 seconds into the final round in a decision that proved unpopular with the losing fighter, as well as most of the fans in attendance.
“It was a bad stoppage,” Griffin said. “He got me in a bad position, and as I was trying to work my way out the ref decided to stop the fight.”
Meanwhile, Cavalcante admitted he was disappointed with the way the bout ended but felt he was well on his way to the win.
“For me, a win is a win, and I love to win,” Cavalcante said. “But I hate to win this way. I don’t want the fans to boo. I want them to be happy. I want to win convincingly.
“I wasn’t surprised the ref stopped it. He gave three warnings, but Griffin never did anything to improve his position. I’m not saying he couldn’t continue, but he did nothing to improve his position.”
In the night’s final preliminary contest, Gerald Harris (22-5) earned a unanimous-decision win over Jorge Santiago (25-12) in a fight “Hurricane” thought he had won in the opening round.
While the two started with a moderate pace, things picked up dramatically in the closing seconds, as Harris lifted Santiago high in the air. The Brazilian defended by wrapping his arm over the cage, though Harris eventually slammed him to the floor, anyway. As the referee stepped in to deduct a point from Santiago for the foul, Harris thought the fight was over and began to celebrate the win. However, the contest carried on.
Harris outwrestled Santiago in the second round, leaving him with a with a healthy lead on the cards heading into the final frame. Santiago recognized the urgency in the situation and came out firing heavy leather, but Harris, who later said he broke his hand in the opening round, simply stalled out until the final bell, when he was awarded a unanimous decision based on his work in the first two frames.
After the win, Harris said his injured hand forced him to fight conservatively in the final five minutes.
“I knew I couldn’t punch with him,” Harris said. “I couldn’t squeeze at all.”
Still, “Hurricane” said he’s excited to get back to action as quickly as possible.
“Once this wrist heals, I’m excited to get back in the cage with whoever World Series of Fighting puts in front of me.”
Undefeated lightweight prospect Lewis Gonzales (9-0) showed incredible resiliency against gritty veteran Antonio McKee (28-6-2), earning a unanimous-decision win in a bout cut short by an accidental foul.
McKee dominated the early action, taking the fight to the floor and moving immediately into a rear-naked choke attempt that seemed destined to end the fight. But Gonzales battled through the hold and escaped to top position in the closing seconds of the round.
The second round was again a wrestling battle, but this time it was Gonzales who controlled the positioning en route to claiming the round, setting up an intriguing final frame.
McKee again looked for a takedown to open the third, but Gonzales defended the effort and again secured a dominant position. Unfortunately, he scored with an elbow to the back of McKee’s head, forcing referee Jason McCoy to step in and call a foul, which he deemed accidental and therefore did not deduct a point. McKee rolled on the floor in pain and could not continue the fight, and judges were directed to score the partial frame, which ended just 43 seconds into the five-minute period. All three judges leaned toward Gonzales, and he was awarded a unanimous decision win, 29-28 on all three cards.
In a bantamweight battle of two friends, Jared Papazian (16-10) outpointed John Robles (7-2) in a spirited three-round affair.
It was Robles who looked better in the early going, flooring Papazian with a massive right hand. But “The Jackhammer” crawled up off the deck and dominated the remainder of the action. Taunting Robles for the rest of the fight, Papazian used a vicious left hand and several thudding knees to the body to slow his opponent en route to claiming a unanimous-decision win.
Papazian, who replaced an injured Joe Murphy on just two weeks’ notice, improved to 2-1 in his past three appearances. Top prospect Robles saw a two-fight win streak snapped.
The event opened with a thrilling 150-pound catchweight contest, as 10-year veteran Victor “Joe Boxer” Valenzuela (13-6-2) survived a first-round knockdown to rally for a second-round submission win over fellow Californian Isaac “High Risk” Gutierrez (5-4).
Valenzuela was in trouble in the early going, as a Gutierrez combination sent him to the deck. But “Joe Boxer” returned to his feet and cleared his head, hanging on to the end of the round. The momentum shifted in the second, when Valenzuela was able to bring his opponent to the mat, move to the back and sink in a rear-naked choke at the 2:41 mark.
Valenzuela improves to 5-1 in his past six fights. Gutierrez falls to 1-3 in his past four appearances.

Delgadillo continued to pressure Verdejo in round two but kept getting picked off on his way in. Delgadillo wouldnt go away and rocked Verdejo twice and round five. that seemed to incite Verdejo as he came back to land a hard right that had Delgadillo spitiing blood. Ronald Cruz got back in the win column with a crushing second round knockout over Rodolfo Armenta in a scheduled eight round Welterweight bout.
Cruz landed a hard three punch combination in round one that slightly buckled Armenta. Armenta seemed to want to wind up and throw a home run punch throughout the first frame. Cruz started his vaunted body attack in round two as the two fought at close quarters until unleashed a vicious right and left that set off a nasty barrage of bunches that put Armenta down for referee Gary Rosado’s ten count and the bout was over at 2:40 of round two

Trujillo, 146.1 lbs of Easton, PA won by scores of 40-35 on all cards and is now 2-0. Polischuk, 145.6 lbs of Alexandria, VA is now 1-1.
Jerome Rodriguez was impressive in scoring a six round unanimous decision over Ariel Duran in a Jr. Welterweight bout.
Rodriguez landed some hard power shots in round two and rocked Duran with a hard straight left. Duran showed a solid chim upon being hammered with two lefts as the bell rang to end round four. Rodriguez continued to break Duran down in round five as he landed a nifty multi-punch combination that was followed by some hard body work. Rodriguez landed six hard lefts for good measure to in round six.

Font stops Foster to earn featherweight title; de Freitas scores monumental win over O’Neil
LINCOLN, R.I. (Aug. 9th, 2013) – Only one spot separated Rob Font and Chris Foster in the ratings entering Friday night, but Font proved the distance is much greater with a dominating performance at Twin River Casino.
Ranked No. 3 in the northeast, Font (7-1, 2 KOs) captured Classic Entertainment & Sports’ vacant featherweight title in the main event of Friday’s mixed martial arts show at the Event Center, stopping the 4th-ranked Foster (7-3) with a series of unanswered blows at the 4-minute, 1-second mark of the opening round.
The Boston, Mass., native, who has now won six consecutive fights, turned the tide late in the opening round by brilliantly feigning a switch kick and catching Foster with a hard, right uppercut that sent the Meriden, Conn., featherweight drifting toward the cage. Font began hammering the stunned Foster with a series of short lefts and rights, mixing in elbows and flying knees, and eventually sent Foster to the canvas for good with a vicious right elbow to the temple. Seconds later, referee Kevin MacDonald wisely stopped the bout with Foster unable to defend himself.
Font became just the fourth champion in CES history, joining inaugural middleweight champion Todd Chattelle, reigning middleweight champion John Howard, and reigning lightweight champion Mike Campbell.
In the co-feature, a fight ranked among popular MMA website Sherdog.com’s worldwide must-watch list, Brazilian welterweight Gil de Freitas (15-5, 5 KOs) blasted former Ultimate Fighting Championships (UFC) contender Chuck O’Neil (11-6) at the 3:37 mark of the opening round to earn his fifth career knockout. O’Neil, who entered the bout ranked No. 1 in the northeast among welterweights, maintained a steady pace early in the fight by utilizing his jab, but once the two stood toe-to-toe, the powerful de Freitas took control. After a hard uppercut by O’Neil, de Freitas answered with a series of combinations, eventually sending O’Neil to the canvas and forcing referee Dan Miragliotta to stop the fight.
On the undercard, bantamweight Sophanirith Am (2-0, 1 KO) of Revere, Mass., won for the second time in as many fights, stopping newcomer Devin Pilkington (0-1) of Johnston, R.I., at the 2:24 mark of the second round following a slow start in the opening round. Middleweight Cheyenne Vazquez (1-0) of Boston won his debut by split decision, narrowly beating Framingham, Mass., native Terrell Clark, 30-27, 28-29, 29-28. In bantamweight action, Matt Doherty (2-0) of Salem, Mass., earned a technical knockout win over Johnny Campbell (5-5) of Plymouth, Mass., when the ringside physician stopped the bout at the end of the second round after Campbell dislocated his right shoulder. Campbell sustained the injury midway through the second round will trying to cushion a landing, but fought valiantly despite Doherty’s efforts to end the bout with ground-and-pound.
Lightweight Andrew Osborne (7-5, 2 KOs) of Fayetteville, N.C., spoiled Springfield, Mass., native Damien Trites’ (6-6) return to the cage, stopping Trites at 4:34 of the opening round. Fighting for the first time since 2011, Trites hit the deck late in the round following an overhand right from Osborne, who seized the opportunity and finished Trites with a series of unanswered blows. Making his Twin River debut, Delray Beach, Fla., resident and Peabody, Mass., native Charles Rosa (4-0, 2 KOs) made quick work of Rocky Hill, Conn., welterweight Silvester Murataj (0-2), earning the knockout victory 46 seconds into the opening round. Rosa has yet to advance past the first round in each of his first four bouts.
Friday’s show also featured the Twin River debut of former UFC middleweight competitor Tom Egan (6-3, 5 KOs), who stopped Framingham veteran Aldos Santos (3-2) 3:27 into the opening round. Egan has now won two consecutive bouts while Santos lost in his first fight since 2008. Bantamweight Rob Sullivan (2-1) of Baltimore, Md., used sheer strength to overwhelm East Providence, R.I., fan favorite Dinis Paiva Jr. (3-5) in a 29-28, 29-28, 29-28 unanimous decision while Brazilian heavyweight Juliano Coutinho (4-1), fighting out of Cape Cod, Mass., dominated the feisty Eric Bedard (5-4) of Providence in a 30-27, 30-27, 30-27 unanimous decision.

Jose Pedraza scored a ten round unanimous decision over Gabriel Tolmajyan in a Super Featherweight bout.
It was a close bout with many close round that favored Pedraza moving in and out and landing quick combinations. Tolmajyan got opportunities in the second half of the fight as Pedraza got more into Tolmajyan’s punching range. Pedraza built up enough of lead to win by 97-93 on all cards.

Avoided welterweight contender Ed Paredes Returns to ring Aug. 23 on Iron Mike Productions debut event
DEERFIELD, Fla. (August 9, 2013) – One of the most avoided welterweights in the world, Ed “The Lion” Paredes (33-3-1, 22 KOs) returns to the ring August 23 on the “Iron Mike Returns!” card, representing the debut promotional event for Iron Mike Productions, formerly Acquinity Sports, at Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, New York.
Acquinity Sports, under CEO Garry Jonas, partnered with Hall of Famer Mike Tyson to form Iron Mike Productions, which is presenting “Tyson Is Back!” in association with Greg Cohen Promotions.
“Tyson Is Back” features a World Championship doubleheader on ESPN Friday Night Fights, headlined by International Boxing Federation (IBF) super featherweight champion Argenis “La Tormenta” Mendez (21-2, 11 KOs) making his initial world title defense, in the 12-round main event against IBF No. 13-rated Arash Usmanee (20-1, 10 KOs).
Undefeated Claudio “The Matrix” Marrero (14-0, 11 KOs), rated No. 2 by the WBA, meets WBA No. 4 Jesus Cueller (22-1, 18 KOs) in the 12-round co-feature for the Interim World Boxing Association (WBA) featherweight championship.
After his impressive win against former world champion Vivian Harris by TKO in July 2012 in Florida, Paredes has since registered two more victories, the first against Hector Munoz by unanimous decision on November 30, along with a third-round knockout of Basilio Silva on April 13 in the Dominican Republic.
The 28-year-old Paredes is one of only two welterweights in the world who is currently ranked among the top 15 in all four major sanctioning bodies: World Boxing Council (WBC) & WBA #3, World Boxing Organization (WBO) No. 11, and IBF No. 13. Paredes will also be participating in the WBC World Cup, organized by the World Boxing Council (WBC) and its President, Mr. Mauricio Sulaiman.
The hard-hitting Paredes is scheduled to fight Mexican invader Noe “Platanito” Bolanos (24-8-1, 16 KOs) on Aug. 23rd in a 10-round bout. “We are now very close to a title shot,” Paredes said from his Miami training camp. “I need to stay near the top in the rankings to achieve that world title fight. I’m determined to look good and impressive on August 23rd. I’m excited to be fighting on this card and can’t wait to get in the ring. Wilder destroys Liakhovich in one

Deontay Wilder made it 29 knockouts in as many fights as he annihilated former world champion Sergei Liakhovich in one round of their scheduled ten round Heavyweight bout at the Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio, California.
Wilder landed a jab that was followed up by two crushing rights that sent Liakhovich down to the canvas. Liakhovich’s legs were twitching om the ground the fight was immediately stopped just 103 seconds into the fight.
Wilder, 224 lbs of Tuscaloosa, AL is now 29-0 with 29 knockouts. Liakhovich, 232 lbs of Scottsdale, AZ is now 25-6.
“I know I’m blessed with God-given power,” he said after destroying former world heavyweight champion Sergei Liakhovich in Friday’s main event on ShoBox: The New Generation from Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, Calif. “After our team prayer, I always pray that I don’t hurt the guy I’m fighting, that if he has a family he will be OK enough afterward to continue to provide for them.”
“I’m just blessed with tremendous power,” said Wilder, a bronze medalist in the 2008 Olympic Games and the last American male boxer to medal in the Olympics. “I don’t depend on it, but it is there. I think my secret isn’t power. It’s my speed. I think people hear about all my KO’s and tend to overlook that.
“I think all my KO’s are helping me get a lot of people’s attention and I love that. I embrace it. I think more people are now starting to feel that maybe I can be the guy who brings the heavyweight title back to America. Honestly, I would love to be that guy.”
In a spirited battle of previously undefeated Super Featherweights, Francisco Vargas scored a ten round unanimous decision over Brandon Bennett.
Bennett boxed well early has he jabbed to keep Vargas for the first round and a half. Vargas got into the fight by landing a couple of power shots towards the end of the round. Round four, the action picked up greatly with Vargas getting the better with his shots where he featured a body assault. Bennett stood his ground and landed quicker yet less powerful shots. Despite getting cut over the right eye in round five, Vargas had a big round as he contunied to work the body until he landed a big right at the end of the round.
In round six, Vargas continued to pound forward with a volume of combinations that were divided up between head and body. As the round progressed, Vargas continued to apply the pressure and the cut became less of a factor. Vargas continued to throw punches and was never threatened down the stretch.
Vargas outlanded Bennett 228 to 81.
Vargas, 130 lbs of Mexico City, MX won by scores of 99-91, 99-90 and 98-92 and is now 17-0-1. Bennett of Cincinnati is now 16-1
“I knew this fight was going to be complicated but I knew with pressure I could win,” said Vargas, an eight-time Mexican national champion who didn’t turn pro until he was 25. “I was scared when I got cut because in the ring you can’t tell how big of a cut it is. All the preparation and hard work that I did in the mountains of Otomi in Mexico paid off. I am very happy with this fight and with my performance.”
Said Bennett: “His strength and speed didn’t surprise me. I just didn’t stick to my game plan. I should have stayed in the middle of the ring. I thought I had him after the first two rounds, but he closed the gap on me in the third and that got me out of my game plan. Instead of just throwing, I waited. Maybe we’ll meet again one day.’
Jermall Charlo scored an impressive second round stoppage over Antwone Smith in a scheduled ten round Jr. Middleweight bout.
Charlo was dominant over Smith, who came in five pounds over the contracted weight In round two, Charlo landed a right to the head that sent Smith to the canvas. When Smith got got to his feet his legs were unsteady and referee Thomas Taylor stopped the bout at 2:23 of round two.
Charlo, 154 lbs of Houston is now 15-0 with 11 knockouts. Smith, 159 lbs of Miami is now 23-5-1.
“I wasn’t surprised at all that the fight ended so quickly,” Charlo said. “The fight went exactly as I expected. Everything my trainer, Ronnie Shields, said would happen happened. This is a great feeling. We accomplished everything we trained for and did exactly what we wanted to do.”
Smith, who weighed in five pounds over the contracted weight of 154 pounds and could not weigh more than 165 for the fight, said “my weight issues had nothing to do with this. I felt normal – until I got hit.”
MIGUEL “SILKY SMOOTH” GONZALEZ LOOKING FOR A CRAWFORD SHOWDOWN
PHILADELPHIA (August 9, 2013)—Fresh off his eighth round stoppage over Josenilson Dos Santos on July 26th, Lightweight contender Miguel Gonzalez would like to reacquaint himself with amateur rival Terrance Crawford this fall.
Gonzalez (22-3, 16 KO’s) of Cleveland, Ohio was very impressive in his victory over Dos Santos which was his second consecutive win on ESPN’s Friday Night Fights.
“It was a tough fight with a tough guy”, said the 27 year-old Gonzalez.
“I was mentally and physically prepared for the fight and you saw the results”.
Gonzalez believes he is finally on the right course to become a world champion.
“It was supposed to be like this. I am good at the sport and my confidence is there. I am supposed to win and have been doing it for a long time. I am nowhere near finished and the grind doesn’t stop. I know what to expect when I go to camp and I will keep progressing”.
Gonzalez would like a shot at Crawford, who has an HBO date on October 5th and with the wins over Dos Santos and former world champion Miguel Acosta, Gonzalez believes he is qualified as anybody to deserve the opportunity to unseat the undefeated Crawford.
Gonzalez and Crawford have a history as they competed as amateurs with Crawford winning a controversial decision.
The fight took place in the United States Championships.
“I was up the whole fight and for some reason I was deducted a point in the last 15 seconds and that point was the difference as lost because of it by that one point”.
“We then fought in the Olympic trials and I beat him so I was satisfied with that”.
Gonzalez now would like a rubber match but this time in the pro ranks with the rising Lightweight contender from Nebraska.
“He is a talented boxer and it would be a great fight but I have the heart, style and desire to destroy him and I want the opportunity to prove it”.
Crawford’s television date is scheduled to take place on October 5th at the co-feature to the Miguel Cotto – Delvin Rodriguez Jr. Middleweight clash in Orlando, Florida.
“Orlando is a great Boricua community; I think that would be the perfect place for me for that fight to happen”.
“I want to thank my trainer Mike Stafford and Levi Smith and I can’t wait to perform again”.
Said Gonzalez’co-Promoter Arthur Pelullo of Banner Promotions, “Miguel has fought two very good fights back to back and he did it on the national stage. We are very pleased with his progress and hope to have him in a big fight real shortly”.
Wegner and Huck visit correctional facility in Berlin

Ulli Wegner and Marco Huck took a brief time out from their current training camp in Neuruppe and attended a meeting with prisoners at the penal institution Tegel in Berlin, Germany. The differences between the WBO Champion and the captives could not be bigger: whereas Huck can enjoy life due to his success as a professional boxer, the prisoners are frustrated as well as bored. As an invitation loomed to get into contact with the inmates, Huck and Wegner did not hesitate to stop by, telling stories about their lives to give them a temporal change.
Especially Wegner has seen a lot being 71 years of age. Therefore, he knows that sometimes there is just a small detail that determines if somebody lands in jail or comes to grips with his life. Marco Huck could have been such a person, as the coach quotes from his autobiography. Therein, Wegner retells the story of his first meeting with the current cruiserweight titlist. “In 2004 he knocked at the door of our gym, which was located in Cologne back then,” Wegner still knows. Huck chimes in: “I was just 19 at that time. I said who I am and added that I want to become a world champion.” What followed was a sparring session with former heavyweight contender Cengiz Koc and a few weeks later Huck got his first contract as a professional fighter.
“Looking back, getting to know and working with Mr. Wegner is the best thing that has happened to me. He made me not only a world champion but also a wealthy man. It does not bear contemplating what could have happened if he would have rejected me.”
Afterwards, Wegner and Huck stood by for autographs and pictures.

A CLASSIC COUNTDOWN TO “THE ONE: MAYWEATHER VS. CANELO”AIRSON AUGUST 10 ON FOX DEPORTES

LOS ANGELES, August 7 – The biggest boxing event of 2013 is a little over a month away and with anticipation rising, FOX Deportes will do their part to get fight fans ready for “THE ONE: Mayweather vs. Canelo” with three hours of “Golden Boy Classics” on Saturday, August 10 beginning at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT.
First up is the 2010 battle between former World Champion Zab Judah and WBC Interim Super Lightweight World Champion Lucas Matthysse. Then at 10:00 p.m., Unified Super Lightweight World Champion Danny Garcia challenges the legendary Erik Morales for his first World Championship in 2012 and in the main event at 11:00 p.m., Floyd “Money” Mayweather meets former World Champion Miguel Cotto in their epic May 2012 clash.
Dominant against anyone and everyone put in front of him for years, Floyd Mayweather’s boxing dominance was internationally recognized. But on May 5, 2012, “Money” gave the fans an even more impressive show as he stood and traded with hard-hitting Puerto Rican icon Miguel Cotto, pounding out a 12 round unanimous decision that proved Mayweather’s ability to do it all in the ring once again.
Despite his success on the way up the 140-pound ladder, no one outside of his team knew how Danny Garcia would react to facing a legend like Erik Morales in Houston, Texas on March 24, 2012. But in his first world title fight, Philadelphia’s Garcia rose to the occasion, dropping Morales in the 11th round en route to a 12-round decision win that earned him the WBC 140-pound crown.
Two Division World Champion Zab Judah had to walk through fire when he faced off with Lucas Matthysse at New Jersey’s Prudential Center on November 6, 2010. Judah rose from the canvas in the 10th round against his then-unbeaten foe to pound out a 12-round split decision. Many left the arena that night believing Matthysse was the victor, but the Argentinean banger would get his shot at glory soon enough.

This experience will definitely teach me so much, and I plan on implementing this program here in Brooklyn.”

Arreola to take on Mitchell on September 6th

Former world Heavyweight title challenger Chris Arreola will take on Seth Mitchell on September 6th in Indio, California on Showtime.
“We got the fight done. It’s all set,” said Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer. “Arreola and Mitchell, it’s a crossroads fight for both guys. They know it’s do or die. That’s what makes it so interesting.”
“I could definitely see the winner between Arreola and Mitchell fighting Deontay Wilder next,” Schaefer said. “We could come out of this thing with one true American challenger for the heavyweight title next year.”
The co-feature will pit former bantamweight and junior featherweight champion Rafael Marquez against Efrain Esquivias (16-2-1, 9 KOs), 30, of Gardena, Calif., in a scheduled 10-round junior featherweight fight.
When the fight was first in the works, Dan Goossen, Arreola’s promoter, told ESPN.com last month, “It’s a great fight for both fighters and I think it’s a great fight-fans’ fight. They’ll both come at each other. Fans really love the heavyweights, especially ones that like to get in there and bang with one another. (Arreola is) breathing well. He’s fine. He had a little surgery on (his nose), and a few weeks later he was good to go.”
Hopkins Murat pushed back a week to October 26th

According to Dan Rafael of espn.com, Bernard Hopkins October 19th mandatory defense with Karo Murat has been pushed back a week to October 26th at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City to avoid conflict with the Mike Alvarado – Ruslan Provodnikov fight on HBO.
Schaefer also said he has made a deal with Showtime to televise the card, which he said could be a tripleheader. The other bouts Schaefer said he is working on for the card are super middleweight titlist Sakio Bika (32-5-2, 21 KOs) taking on mandatory challenger Anthony Dirrell (26-0, 22 KOs) — although Bika could have taken an optional defense because the mandatory is not due yet – and “Kid Chocolate” Peter Quillin (29-0, 21 KOs) making the second defense of his middleweight belt against a yet-to-be-determined opponent.
“We’re trying to get the Bika-Dirrell fight done and we’re also looking at having Quillin on the card as well,” Schaefer said.
“THE ONE” PAY-PER-VIEW CARD IS COMPLETE WITH A WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP FIGHT BETWEEN ISHE SMITH AND CARLOS MOLINA

LOS ANGELES, (August 8, 2013) – Just when fight fans thought “THE ONE: MAYWEATHER VS. CANELO” couldn’t get any bigger, the opening two Pay-Per-View bouts of the September 14 mega-card at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas have been announced, with a third world championship bout and a meeting of two rising stars making this the must-see event of 2013.
In a 12-round battle for the IBF Junior Middleweight World Championship, Mayweather Promotions star and Las Vegas’ own Ishe “Sugar Shay” Smith defends his crown for the first time against feared top contender Carlos Molina. The opening bout on the SHOWTIME PPV will be a 10-round welterweight showdown between Mexico’s
Pablo Cesar “El Demoledor” Cano and England’s Ashley “Treasure” Theophane, the most recent fighter to sign with Mayweather Promotions.
“THE ONE: MAYWEATHER VS. CANELO,” a 12-round fight for Canelo’s WBC, WBA and Ring Magazine Super Welterweight World Championships and Mayweather’s WBA Super Welterweight Super World Championship taking place Saturday, Sept. 14 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, is promoted by Mayweather Promotions, Golden Boy Promotions and Canelo Promotions and sponsored by Corona, O’Reilly Auto Parts, AT&T, Valvoline, Mexico Tourism, Fred Loya Insurance and Nature Nutrition. In the 12-round co-featured attraction, WBC, WBA Super and Ring Magazine Super Lightweight World Champion Danny Garcia and thunderous puncher WBC Interim Super Lightweight World Champion Lucas Matthysse square off in a fight presented in association with Swift Promotions and Arano Box Promotions. Also, Ishe Smith vs. Carlos Molina square off in a 12-round battle for Smith’s IBF Junior Middleweight World Title. Smith vs. Molina is promoted in association with Warriors Boxing. The mega-event will be produced and distributed live by SHOWTIME PPV® beginning at 9:00 p.m. ET/6:00 p.m. PT. The event can be heard in Spanish using secondary audio programming (SAP).
Less than 24 hours after going on sale in June, the event was sold out, but six MGM Resorts properties will host live closed circuit telecasts of “THE ONE.” Properties showcasing the event include ARIA, MGM Grand, Mandalay Bay, The Mirage, Monte Carlo and New York-New York. General admission tickets for the closed circuit telecasts are priced at $100, not including handling fees, and are available for purchase at each individual property’s box office outlets and also are available for purchase by phone with a major credit card at 866-799-7711. Closed circuit ticket sales are limited to eight (8) per person. Tickets also are available through Ticketmaster by calling (800) 745-3000 or online at www.ticketmaster.com.
After a long career that saw him go from the world of reality television as a star on “The Contender” to a series of ups and downs at 154 and 160 pounds, Las Vegas’ Ishe “Sugar Shay” Smith (25-5, 11 KO’s) finally put it all together in late 2010, beginning a four fight winning streak that culminated in a 12 round decision win over Cornelius Bundrage on February 23 earning the 34-year-old the IBF Junior Middleweight World Championship. Now the reign of “Sugar Shay” begins with a hometown bout against the always-tough Molina.
Long avoided by the elite at 154 pounds, Patzcuaro, Mexico native Carlos Molina (21-5-2, 6 KO’s) is finally getting his shot at championship gold on September 14 after a decade slugging it out in the ring. Now making his home in Chicago, the 30-year-old Molina began making noise with his disputed draw against Erislandy Lara in 2011, and he has since won four of five bouts, defeating former world champions Kermit Cintron and Cory Spinks, with his only loss coming via controversial DQ against James Kirkland in March of 2012.
Mexico’s Pablo Cesar “El Demoledor” Cano (26-3-1, 20 KO’s), like countryman and headliner Canelo Alvarez, will have a nation in his corner when he steps between the ropes on September 14. Given the controversial nature of his recent decision losses to Paulie Malignaggi and Shane Mosley, the 23-year-old plans on giving the judges the night off by scoring a defining knockout of Theophane. A pro since 2006, Cano can do it all in the ring, and in his first Las Vegas fight since his classic 2011 battle with the legendary Erik Morales, he vows to put on a show.
A proud native of London, England, 32-year-old Ashley “Treasure” Theophane (33-5-1, 10 KO’s) is a graduate of the School of Hard Knocks in the ring and is finally getting his chance to shine on the world stage. A former British junior welterweight champion, the talented Theophane owns victories over Delvin Rodriguez and DeMarcus Corley, and he gave current world champion Danny Garcia one of his toughest fights in 2010 before losing a split decision. Winner of two straight, Theophane is looking to prove that he was made for the bright lights of Las Vegas.

Claudio Marrero prepared to make Major statement Aug. 23 On Iron Mike Productions debut event
EERFIELD, Fla. (August 8, 2013) – Unbeaten Dominican featherweight contender Claudio “The Matrix” Marrero (14-0, 11 KOs) will face Argentina’s Jesus Andres Cuellar (22-1-0, 23 KOs) for the vacant World Boxing Association (WBA) Interim world title on August 23rd at the Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, New York.
This will mark the first event promoted by Iron Mike Productions, formerly Acquinity Sports, in association with Greg Cohen Promotions, and it will be broadcast live on ESPN Friday Night Fights. Acquinity Sports, under CEO Garry Jonas, partnered with Hall of Famer Mike Tyson to form Iron Mike Productions.
Marrero’s stable-mate, International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior lightweight champion Argenis “La Tormenta” Mendez (21-2, 11 KOs) makes his first world title defense against IBF No. 13-rated challenger Arash Usmanee (20-1, 10 KOs) in the 12-round main event.
Marrero understood that this fight be a tough test and he has trained accordingly for the most significant fight of his young professional career. “I understand that Jesus Cuellar is an aggressive fighter who has a high percentage of knockouts,” Marrero said. “However, we believe that he is not invincible, and we will defeat him. We have two different styles. I am sure I have the skills to win, either by unanimous decision or by KO.”
Marrero posed
Iron Mike Productions COO Henry Rivalta added, “He (Marrero) is training for the fight of his life. Argentina has great fighters like Lucas Matthysee, Sergio Martinez and Marcos Maidana, who have all proven themselves. In the Marrero-Cuellar fight, we will see the rise of a new star, Claudio Marrero”
Marrero, the WBA’s top-ranked featherweight at No. 2 (No. 1 unrated), is a stylish southpaw from the Dominican Republic, while the WBA No. 4-ranked Cuellar will be fighting out his native country for the first time as a professional.
Providing chief support are two 10-rounders showcasing Cuban KO king, featherweight lightweight Alexei “The Hurricane” Collado (16-0, 15 KOs) and world welterweight contender Ed “The Lion” Paredes (33-3-1, 22 KOs). Collado, now fighting out of Miami, takes on Mexican veteran Hugo “Guerrero” Partida (19-4-2, 15 KOs), while Paredes faces another tough Mexican, Noe “Platanito” Bolanos (24-8-1, 16 KOs). Collado is rated No. 14 by the WBA and No. 15 by the IBF. Paredes is one of only two welterweights in the world who is currently ranked among the top 15 in all four major sanctioning bodies: World Boxing Council (WBC) & WBA #3, World Boxing Organization (WBO) No. 11, and IBF No. 13.
Also fighting on the undercard in six-round bouts are undefeated Bahamian light heavyweight Ryan “Big Youth” McKenzie (13-0, 11 KOs), now residing in Canastota, New York against an opponent to be determined, and unbeaten Virginian middleweight Antoine Douglas (8-0, 6 KOs) squares-off against Russell “Spiderman” Jordan (15-10, 10 KOs), of Rochester (NY).
Former Toledo-Ohio-based amateur star, Albert “Prince” Bell (1-0, 1 KO), is back in action against New York City super featherweight Angel Siguenza (0-1) in a four-round match. The 20-year-old Bell captured gold medals as an amateur at the 2011 National PAL Championships and 2012 National Golden Gloves Tournament.
All fights and fighters are subject to change.
Mendez, Marrero, Collado, Paredes and Bell were promoted by Acquinity Sports and are now fighting under the Iron Mike Productions banner.
