CURTIS STEVENS AIMS FOR ANOTHER KNOCKOUT AGAINST ROMAN

UNCASVILLE, CT – The last time middleweight Curtis “Showtime” Stevens was in the ring, something happened that he didn’t plan on. The hard-punching boxer from Brooklyn, NY was extended for the full 8-round limit. Although he won a unanimous decision that day, the result didn’t sit well with the hot prospect. If it was up to Stevens, 24-3, 17 KOs, every single one of his fights would end in a KO.

“I don’t get paid overtime,” Stevens recently said, summing up his boxing philosophy.

The exciting New Yorker gets a chance to register another knockout when appears in the 10-round main event on August 3rd at the Mohegan Sun, in Uncasville, CT. Stevens faces veteran Saul Roman, 37-9, 31 KOs, in the nationally televised contest.

The fight is the highlight bout of a triple header card on the next edition of Fight Night. The other televised bouts feature heavyweight Tomasz Adamek, 48-2, 29 KOs, and Tony Grano, 20-3-1, 16 KOs, in a 10-round heavyweight contest, and Eddie Chambers, 36-3, 18 KOs, in his first cruiserweight fight against Thabiso Mchunu,13-0, 10 KOs, also scheduled for 10 rounds.

Prior to his last bout, Stevens blasted out his previous two opponents in a single round each. However, against Roman he will find a battle-tested professional who figures to seriously test his punching power. The Mexican has been in with the best and sees Stevens as the final hurdle to the world title shot that has eluded him during his 13-year career.

With Stevens on the brink of big things in the middleweight division, he will certainly bring his “A” game into the ring against Roman. And for Stevens that means only one thing – a knockout. However if Stevens wants to add another flashy KO to his record, he’s going to have to work for it against Roman.

But that’s exactly what Stevens has done throughout his boxing career. His penchant for punching surfaced early in his amateur days, when he was first labeled as a dangerous knockout artist. This reputation has stuck in the professional ranks, and Stevens would like nothing more than to make another statement in the nationally televised main event.

With both fighters in hot pursuit of victory, their fight on August 3rd should prove to be an explosive encounter.

FIGHT INFO: August 3rd “Three To See” card at Mohegan Sun, Uncasville, CT. In the main event Curtis Stevens and Saul Roman will clash for 10-rounds in a middleweight war. Also co-featured will be a 10-round cruiserweight battle between Eddie Chambers and Thabiso Mchunu. Heavyweight, Tomasz “Goral” Adamek will take on Tony Grano, Hartford, CT, 20-3-1, 16 KO’s, for 10-rounds.

Biggest MMA Fight In OC History

On Thursday, August 15th on the Fight Club OC show in The Hangar at the OC Fair & Event Center, the biggest, literally, the biggest mixed martial arts fight in Orange County history will take place! All fans in attendance will see two giant MMA fighters in action when Fullerton’s 6’8″ Jack May put his perfect 4-0 record on the line against San Diego’s 6’5″ Keishaun Hill who is 1-0. What these two “big guys” also bring to the Fight Club OC show almost unblemished records, both as amateurs and as pros. May is a former Glory and K-1 fighter and was 3-1 as an amateur, while Hill was a perfect 9-0 as an amateur with all wins coming by knockout. This means that on August 15th one of these fighters will taste defeat for the first time….so get ready for a war!

Undefeated prospect Toka Kahn-Clary Back in Las Vegas ring Friday

PROVIDENCE (July 9, 2013) – Undefeated Providence super featherweight prospect Toka “T Nice” Kahn-Clary (5-0, 4 KOs) returns to ring Friday night for his first scheduled six-round bout.

The 21-year-old native of Liberia faces newly-crowned Texas State lightweight champion Pedro Pablo Torres (7-5-2, 5 KOs) on the non-televised portion of the Top Rank-promoted ESPN Friday Night Fights card at Texas Station Casino in Las Vegas.

In his last fight this past April, Kahn-Clary dropped Gadiel Andaluz (4-5-1, 2 KOs) three times in the opening round en route to a victory by technical knockout at the 1:32 mark.

“This fight means a lot to me,” Kahn-Clary said. “It’s my understanding that this guy is going to give me rounds. I’m looking forward to that because I haven’t fought a lot of rounds as a pro (12). I’ve been sparring a lot of hard rounds, especially with Thomas (Falowo, 10-1 middleweight with 7 KOs), who keeps coming forward throwing punches. I feel great; I’m in top shape, already on weight.

“I’m looking forward to fighting again in Las Vegas. This is a big opportunity that a lot of fighters don’t get. (Kahn-Clary won a four-round decision over Jesus Garza on December 6, 2012 at The Mirage in Las Vegas.) Hopefully, I’ll keep going out there and keep winning.”

Kahn-Clary’s promoter, Bob Arum’s Top Rank, has kept him active with this already his seventh professional fight since turning pro only a year ago. He had one “no contest” last October due to a cut over his eye from an unintentional head butt.

“He’s won all of his four-round fights – five plus the ‘no contest’ – and it’s time for him to move up to a six-rounder,” Toka-Kahn’s head trainer Peter Manfredo, Sr. explained. “He has steadily improved and looked good sparring 6-8 rounds. We can’t keep him back. It’s time! Toka is the most dedicated and disciplined fighter I’ve ever trained. At this stage, he’s the best fighter I’ve ever trained, including my son (Peter Manfredo, Jr.), Edwin Rodriguez, Jessie Brinkley and Ossie Duran.

“There’s no video available on his opponent, but he’s Mexican and they all come forward. Toka has to control the fight with his jab; everything comes off his jab. He’s worked nicely with angles and needs to continue sitting on his punches, going to the body, and taking advantage when his opponent’s off balance with strong counter punching like he did so well in his last fight.”

Kahn-Clary was a standout amateur who captured a gold medal at the 2010 U.S. National Golden Gloves Tournament. He fights out of the new Manfredo Boxing Sports Fitness gym in Narragansett, Rhode Island.

“Everth Briceno is a great fighter. The guy has fought for the world title on two separate occasions,” Frampton said Monday. “He also boxed Leo Santa Cruz, who [I think] is a future rival of mine, so I aim to do a better job on Briceno than Santa Cruz did. I am in the best shape of my life right now. I am improving in training every day, sparring great, and I’m looking forward to showcasing my skills at Wembley.”

Abraham pushes himself hard for Shihepo!

arthur_abraham
Arthur Abraham (36-4, 28 KOs) is convinced that soon he will be a world champion once again. But before he can even start to think about another crack at a world title, the 33-year-old has to get past his next opponent. The prodigy of coach Ulli Wegner takes on Willbeforce Shihepo (20-6, 15 KOs) at the Sport- und Kongresshalle Schwerin, Germany on August 24.

Abraham, a former Middle- and Super-Middleweight Titlist, is currently undergoing a tense preparation under the guidance of Wegner´s assistant Georg Bramowski. “I know that I have to look ahead and train as hard as I can. Shihepo is very uncomfortable to box and varies his style during a fight. He is a brawler, so I have to be on my toes”, said the super-middleweight. To make sure that he does not take his 30-year-old foe lightly, Ulli Wegner had some warning words. “Before Mr. Wegner went on holiday, he made it clear what I have to do during his absence. Therefore, I am giving it my all.”

But even from the sunny island of Gran Canaria, Spain Wegner has some words of advice. “There is a lot on the line. Shihepo will be highly motivated ahead of this fight. Although he doesn’t possess one particular strengths, he is physical strong and difficult to predict. He tries to overpower his opponents by constantly looking for the infight. If Arthur wants to crown himself as the world champion again in the future, he has to be focused on August 24. That is the only way back to the top.”

Tickets for the big fight night at the Sport- und Kongresshalle Schwerin, Germany are available at www.eventim.de and www.boxen.com.

Fortuna to Face Franco in Featherweight War! ESPN Friday Night Fights in Miami, Oklahoma

Fortuna206
On Friday, August 2, at the Buffalo Run Casino in Miami, Oklahoma, Leon Margules of Warriors Boxing and Sampson Lewkowicz of Sampson Boxing (in association with Tony Holden Productions and the Buffalo Run Casino) will proudly present an ESPN Friday Night Fights-televised night of boxing featuring a high-octane featherweight explosion between two of the best fighters in the 126-lb. division.

In a 10-round main event with Fight of the Year potential, former interim WBA Champion Javier “El Abejon” Fortuna (22-0, 16 KOs) of the Dominican Republic will face Miami via Havana’s Luis “La Estrella” Franco (11-1, 7 KOs).

And in the televised 10-round welterweight co-main event, former world champion Kermit “El Asesino” Cintron (33-5-2, 28 KOs) will take on tough Dominican Jonathan Batista (14-1, 7 KOs).

Tickets are priced at: Reserved: $25.00, Premium: $40.00 and Platinum: $60.00 and are available here or by calling The Buffalo Run Box Office (918) 542-7140.

One of boxing’s brightest young stars, 23-year-old Fortuna’s sledgehammer fists have helped him become known for producing highlight-reel knockouts. In his last appearance, the WBC #6, WBA #11 and IBF #5-rated slugger demolished world-rated Mexican Miguel Zamudio in 1:08 of the first round. Zamudio was unconscious for several frightening minutes after absorbing Fortuna’s whirlwind fury.

Amazingly fast and agile in the ring, 31-year-old Luis Franco has long been considered a blue-chip prospect in boxing. The 2004 Olympian and former amateur junior world champion has now reached a point where he must realize that potential. Franco came up short in his last fight, losing a close split decision in an IBF World Championship Eliminator against Argentina’s Mauricio Javier Munoz in Argentina. A victory over Fortuna, however, would propel the skillful Cuban back into the thick of the featherweight title picture.

33-year-old Kermit Cintron has returned to his natural weight of 147 lbs. and will look to continue his comeback. Cintron holds victories over the formidable Alfredo Angulo and Lovemore Ndou and once fought to a draw with pound-for-pound entrant and current middleweight king Sergio Martinez. Cintron’s only losses have come to the world’s best fighters and he remains a solid top contender with anvils in his fists and the will to return to boxing’s elite status.

Dominican boxer/puncher Jonathan Batista is part of the group of talented fighters coming out of his homeland and led by Fortuna. Batista’s only loss was a highly disputable decision to rugged African Emmanuel Lartei Lartey on the undercard of Fortuna vs. Zamudio. It was his first trip outside the Dominican Republic. In that fight, Batista showed solid defense and good hand speed, as he out-boxed Lartei Lartey for most of the fight.

“Fortuna vs. Franco looks like it could be an unforgettable fight,” said Leon Margules of Warriors Boxing. “Fortuna is so strong it’s scary and Franco is unbelievably fast with a great chin. It’s the irresistible force against the immovable object. Something’s got to give and it’ll be a cliffhanger to see what happens. What we all already know is it’s going to be a fantastic fight.”

“Kermit Cintron is looking to become a champion again, but he will not get past my guy Batista,” said Sampson Lewkowicz of Sampson Boxing. “I have carefully put together a wave of boxers from the Dominican and they are all now coming of age. This victory over Cintron will be the first of many big name wins for Batista. They are both fearless fighters and it will almost surely be a war while it lasts.”

Tickets are priced at: Reserved: $25.00, Premium: $40.00 and Platinum: $60.00 and are available here or by calling The Buffalo Run Box Office (918) 542-7140.

On fight night, doors open at 7 pm.

Matt Seawright fights hard against Hardy; Anthony Hardy wins pro debut by PTS decision!

There was almost a promise at hand by Anthony Hardy (1-0-0 0 KO’s) that he’d get the win on Saturday night. He’d back up the investments by his trainers, promoters, and team put into him in the last couple years. He wasn’t going to let one of the most precious moments of his life fall into the gutters. Anthony Hardy fought past a hungry Matt Seawright to win an impressive 39-37 points decision in his four round attraction at Phil Jefferies “Summer Rumble”.

Over the last week, month, year, the thought of Hardy being a British level, European level, or even world level professional fighter has been inculcated deep into his mind. He knew that for people to not brush him off as just another hopeful young kid he needed to make an impression. Despite having Seawright stunned in round four he couldn’t finish the fueled veteran, who at times seemed to have Hardy in a knot – but that was nowhere near enough to stop a pledged fighter in possibly one of the greatest opportunities of his lifetime.

At the end of the night, it was clear that Hardy’s rolling, slippery; southpaw style would lead most domestic boxers to the same troubles of Seawright. While Hardy is not a man to hype and endorse himself he does look forward to the challenge presented by his local brethren and is confident he will be successful in targeting the regional, British and perhaps European titles in the coming years. For now he hopes to remain active; his return is being planned within the next month or two. More details will be released imminently.

Be sure to follow Anthony Hardy on Twitter @Anth_Hardy11 and like his brand new Facebook fan page at Anthony Hardy Professional Boxer. Many news updates, photos and videos will be posted there in the coming weeks.

ASHLEY THEOPHANE: DESTINY’s CHILD

On Labor Day 2006, California Governor and seven times Mr Olympia winner, Arnold Schwarzenegger, a Joe Weider protégé, presented Joe with the Venice Muscle Beach Hall of Fame’s Lifetime Achievement award. Schwarzenegger credited Weider with having inspired him to enter bodybuilding and to come to the United States to seek his American dream.

Formerly known as ‘the Governator’ and huge action movie superstar, Schwarzenegger commented on the passing of Joe. “He taught me that through hard work, I could be a champion. Joe didn’t just inspire my earliest dreams of becoming the best body builder, to live the American dream and becoming an actor. He helped me make them a reality. He invited me to America to pursue my bodybuilding career. I will never forget his generosity. He wasn’t just generous with his money but with his time and expertise and he became a father figure to me. He urged me to ‘exceed yourself’.”
Everyone needs positive, inspiring and motivating people around them. I am lucky to have my own Joe Weider in the form of René Carayol. We met in the most uncommon of circumstances, but he saw the potential greatness that lies within me, just like Joe saw it in Arnold.
My mum, my dad and Mr Isola Akay MBE from All Stars Boxing club have all played a significant role in my journey. Many more along the way have shown me genuine love and believed in me.
I come from a deprived area in London that is unfortunately filled with far too many hard luck stories and the inevitable crime that follows those without hope.
As a 14 year old I had been expelled from two secondary schools, and could not see a positive future for myself. How could I? Everyone around me was negative and pessimistic about the future. I never lost the belief deep down inside that I could achieve something positive with my life.
The British boxing industry just didn’t have any faith or support available for me – so I was by myself. I had a dream and I have had to fight hard both inside and outside the ring to turn that dream into reality.
In 1985 I decided that I wanted to take up boxing, my parents, especially my mother, was dead against the idea. She’s not one, who believes in violence, but I loved the sport and I kept asking. Persistence is a key to being successful and that is a trait I had as a young adolescent.
In 1988 after years of asking, my mum agreed to let me try it out, and my father took me to the All Stars Boxing gym in Paddington, London. That’s when I first met Mr Akay, who constantly added fuel to my fire. I thoroughly enjoyed my first session and it enabled me to find my true self. This passion and commitment to the sport of boxing has never left me, no matter what the setback.
Much like Arnie, America was always my big dream and in 2005, I set out for New York City. I was a little scared and anxious, but going into the unknown is what has always driven me. I learned that in order to achieve your dream you have to try the things that others said could not be done. This approach will inform you just how good you really are.
From the start America loved me and believed in my talent. I met Dmitriy ‘Star of David’ Salita and boxing trainer, Harry Keitt on that first trip to New York. Dmitriy would fly me to America for training camps for many years to come, to assist him prepare for his boxing matches. He believed in my talent and nicknamed me the “British Marvelous Marvin Hagler”.
I met Stan Hoffman, manager to over 30 world champions, up in the Catskill Mountains during a training camp with Dmitriy. Stan believed I had attributes that could not be taught, but that champions naturally possessed. He would get me my first fight in America.
That fight led to me getting my break out fight with former world champion, DeMarcus Corley, who had just fought the now, two time world champion, Devon Alexander, for the world number one spot. I was a huge underdog, but I caused a major upset which would lead to former undisputed welterweight champion, Zab Judah avoiding a fight with me on the Roy Jones Jnr and Joe Calzaghe event at Madison Square Garden a few months later.
After years of going to NYC I needed a new challenge. I decided to take myself to Las Vegas to watch Floyd Mayweather prepare for his fight against Miguel Cotto. Again, I felt the fear of the unknown, but I just felt it was part of my destiny and went anyway.
Floyd was welcoming and I decided to return. Training alongside and watching the best in the business is something very special.
Sometimes you have to pause and reflect on what you have achieved, as many people and athletes never get as far as I have come. Every day I wake up and I am nearer to the dream I had as a five year old child. Maybe I am deluded, but being deluded and believing in myself has got me to the ‘mecca’ of boxing.
This year alone I have trained alongside three world champions; Floyd Mayweather, Ishe Smith and Chad Dawson. Dreams can come true but you have to believe, be persistent and work so hard. It is not easy to do what I do, but it is worth it. I inspire people to achieve their dreams but René Carayol, Lucille Treasure, Zachary Theophane, Tyrone Theophane and Dorothy Edwards are people I think of everyday and because of them I push myself harder than the day before. As the man says, “surround yourself with positive people and positive things will happen. Surround yourself with negative people and negative things will happen.”
Be careful who you associate with, as that can be the difference between success and failure. I’m currently in a gym with three former world champions who are now boxing trainers. They all respect and believe in my talent; Roger Mayweather, Cornelius Boza Edwards and Eddie Mustafa Muhammad.
There are two current world champions resident in the gym, Ishe Smith and Floyd Mayweather and many great fighters coming and going in the gym. I’m in the perfect place to reach my potential, but that also means that I have to give even more. There is no easy road to success and there is no-one to blame for failure but yourself. The real trick is to know that you have tried as hard as you possibly could. Then even failure can feel like winning.
The constraints and hardships I endured whilst growing up will not be an excuse for failure, in fact it has served to drive me ever further towards my destiny.

REPEAT: Thompson takes out Price again

SAN DIEGO, CA (JULY 6, 2013)—Tony Thompson made it two for two as he took out former Olympic silver medal winner David Price for the second time in just over three months with a fifth round stoppage at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, England

The fight was broadcast LIVE in the United States on Wealth TV and www.wealthtv.com

After chess match of a first round, the second was nothing but action as Thompson tried to rough up Price and landed a hard left that startled Price. Later in the round, Price landed a hard right that drove Thompson to the ropes and seconds later deposited Thompson on the canvas from a hard right hand. Round three was more of the same as Price started the round by rocking Thompson with a hard right to the top of the head. Thompson came back to land some lefts and uppercuts and Price walked back to his corner looking winded. Thompson had a strong round four as he rocked Price with a sustained assault with body punches and left crosses. Thompson battered a now bloody price with a ferocious assault until the referee administered a standing eight count in the corner. When the count was completed, Price could not continue and Thompson scored his second consecutive stoppage over the former British Olympic hero.

Thompson, who twice challenged Wladimir Klitschko for the Heavyweight championship of the world now, is clearly back at the head of the line and his record is now 38-3 with 26 knockouts. The 6’8″ Price falls to 15-2.

“Tony Thompson proved that Heavyweight boxing is alive and very well in the United States”, Said Charles Herring, President of Wealth TV

“We were glad that we were able to bring the fans both of these fights and this especially was one of the best Heavyweight fights in a long time. Tony has a lot of fight left in him and we look forward to sitting down with him and hopefully continuing a relationship with him. For someone to score two knockouts in three months over the guy who was just named the ESPN prospect of the year is a huge accomplishment”

“We said when we first got into boxing that we were committed to bring the most exciting fights that were either title fights or fights that had big implications and this fight had both and we look forward to providing more outstanding boxing content with some big announcements shortly.”

In a back and forth slugfest, Kevin Satchell barely escaped retaining his British and Commonwealth Flyweight titles with a razor thin unanimous decision over Iain Butcher in a battle of undefeated fighters.

In round two, Butcher almost ended things as he landed a huge right and left hook that rocked Satchell. He followed up with qa flurry that sent Satchell to the canvas. Satchell was lucky to get out of the round. He started boxing and steadied himself but Butcher would still land some solid shots. The two traded shots for the rest of the fight with the highlight being toe to toe warfare that finished out round ten. Butcher landed the harder shots but Satchell boxed well by throwing combinations from the outside.

In the end, the judges preferred Satchell’s work rate as he scored the 115-113, 115-113 and 115-114 decision.

Satchell is now 11-0. Butcher runs into tough luck is now 8-1.

Neil Perkins scored a six round unanimous decision over Steve Spence in a Middleweight bout.

The referee scored the bout 60-54 for Perkins who is 4-0. Spence is 4-29-4.

UNBEATEN ANDRES GUTIERREZ DEFENDS WBC SILVER SUPER BANTAMWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP AGAINST REY PEREZ ON JULY 6 IN QUERETARO, MEXICO

LOS ANGELES, July 5 – On Saturday, July 6, two days after the United States’ Independence Day celebration, the fireworks will continue south of the border when Televisa and FOX Deportes air two 12-round championship bouts from the Auditorio General Arteaga in Queretaro, Mexico.

In the main event, 19-year-old hometown hero Andres “Jaguarcito” Gutierrez defends his WBC Silver Super Bantamweight Championship for the first time against the Philippines’ Rey Perez. In the co-feature, Guadalajara’s Ricardo “Dinamita” Alvarez also defends a title for the first time as he puts his WBC Continental Americas Super Lightweight Championship on the line when he meets Nezahualcoyotl’s Reyes Sanchez.

Gutierrez vs. Perez and Alvarez vs. Sanchez are presented by Golden Boy Promotions and Canelo Promotions and sponsored by Corona. Doors open at 5 p.m. CT and the first fight begins at 6 p.m. CT. The Televisa broadcast begins at 10:30 p.m. CT, with the FOX Deportes broadcast airing at 10:00 p.m. ET/7:00 p.m. PT

19-year-old phenom Andres Gutierrez (26-0-1, 22 KO’s) has already amassed an impressive number of titles since turning pro in 2009, winning the WBC Silver, WBC FECARBOX, IBF International and WBC CABOFE belts. It’s been a remarkable run for the teenager, but he’s not even close to achieving all of his goals yet Following a fifth round technical knockout win over veteran Salvador Sanchez in April, he’s showing he’s ready for even bigger challenges.

Nicknamed “The Sindangan Technician,” Rey Perez (17-3, 3 KO’s) is a talented boxer who has impressed on the Filipino fight scene with his abilities in the ring. Just 22 years old, Perez has won four of his last five fights, with his only loss being a razor-thin decision to former World Champion Hugo Cazares in January. On Saturday, Perez seeks redemption in Mexico.

A late starter in the fight game, 31-year-old Ricardo Alvarez (20-2-3, 13 KO’s) turned pro in 2008, but he has made up for lost time by staying busy and consistently giving solid performances. Unbeaten in 11 of his last 12 bouts, Alvarez won the title he will be defending Saturday night by decisioning Mauricio Pintor last October. Since then, he knocked out Carlos Valdez in two rounds in April.

Ten year pro Reyes Sanchez (24-4-2, 14 KO’s) has been paying his dues in the fight game for a long time, but with a recent five fight unbeaten streak, he’s starting to reach his potential at the age of 28. With his only loss in the last three years coming against former World Champion Antonio DeMarco in 2011, Sanchez is ready to make his move at 140 pounds.

Dib decisions Oliver

Billy-Dib
Former IBF Featherweight champion Billy Dib scored a ten round majority decision over Mike Oliver at the Convention Center in Hartford Connecticut.

It did int start out well for Dib as he was docked points in round’s two and three for low blows by referee Michael Ortega.

At times the fight was exciting as they traded both in the center of the ring and on the ropes. Dib pushed the action while Oliver counter well in spurts. In the end it was the aggressiveness of Dib that was the prevailing factor.

Dib, 127 lbs of Sydney, Australia will now look to win back his title with a contractual rematch with champion Evgeny Fradovich with a record of 36-2. Oliver, 124 lbs of Hartford is now 25-4.

Mark Davis remained undefeated with a eight round unanimous decision over Robert Osiobe in a Lightweight bout.

Davis was a bit sharper with his punches and built up a working margin through the first five-plus rounds. Osiobe gained confidence after a cut opened up around the left eye of Davis and he began to come on just a bot but it was too little too late as Davis won by scores of 78-74, 78-74 and 77-75.

Davis 135 lbs of Cleveland, OH is now 17-0. Osiobe, 134 1/2 lbs of Las Vegas is now 14-6-4.

Emanuel DeJesus went the distance for the first time but remained perfect as he scored a four round unanimous decision over Rikardo Smith in a Welterweight bout.

DeJesus showed his terrific power as he floored Smith with a booming left hook. Smith was able to get up and finish the fight but was outclassed as DeJesus won by scores of 40-35, 39-36 and 39-36.

DeJesus of Puerto Rico is 5-0. Smith of Kissimmee, FL is now 6-4.

It’s Time: Debut of Anthony Hardy TOMORROW at Sunderland FC!

You read that correctly. After all the waiting, all the strain, and all the hardships of top English amateur Anthony Hardy it is time for him to put his skills to the test in his four round professional debut against veteran Matt Seawright (5-76-5 0 KO’s)

It’s been a long road; a difficult one as well. Hardy won 29 of his 53 amateur fights. His awkward southpaw style lead to many close fights and rough decisions. Hardy is hoping that his style will be suited better for the pro-game.

Being a 5’11 ½ southpaw with a long reach and size advantage over most of his fellow 140-147lbers, Hardy is looking to keep to his game plan. He’ll need to keep behind his right-jab, move, and absolutely work his opponents for four, six, eight and eventually ten or twelve rounds.

As the clock ticks through the evening hours it is less than 2 days until he will get to prove his skills; back up all the hype. All the work done with head trainer Peter Cope, All the sparring with Bradley Saunders and Gary Foxx, All the marketing by his promoters, and PR team, there is only one thing left to do: fight!

Hardy’s fight will open up a major ten-fight bill at “The Stadium of Light”, Sunderland FC in England. Hardy noted he is “at his fittest and his strongest” and will do his fans well on Sunday evening.

DAVID PRICE FOCUSED FOR REMATCH WITH THOMPSON

SAN DIEGO, CA (JULY 5, 2013)—This Saturday questions will be answered as will it be repeat or revenge when Tony Thompson takes on David Price in a rematch of Thompson’s shocking 2nd round knockout of Price that took place on February 23rd in the same Echo Arena ring in Liverpool where the first bout took place.

Like the first bout, the fight will be televised LIVE on Wealth TV and www.wealthtv.com BEGINNING AT 4PM EASTERN / 1PM PACIFIC

Price (15-1, 13 KO’s) recently sat down with Frank Stea of ATG Radio and discussed the changes he needed to make in order to make Saturday’s result a whole different ballgame.

“I got complacent. I thought I would win the fight before I ever got in the ring”, said a humble Price

“I am not going to go in there over confident this time. I do believe in myself and that’s why I took the rematch straight away”

Price has enlisted the services of former Heavyweight champion and legend in Lennox Lewis to help prepare himself for this very important fight.

Price said that even before the first fight with Thompson the he and trainer Franny Smith would seek outside help and Price could not have found a better mentor then the Hall of Famer.

“Lennox has stepped up my game massively. He really pushes me to another level. Lennox appeared and this could have not worked out any better.” finished Price

The Price – Thompson fight will have huge implications as Thompson is looking for a third title shot while Price is looking to get back on track and position himself for a chance at Heavyweight glory.

The show will also feature a battle for the British Flyweight title between two undefeated fighters in Kevin Satchell and Iain Butcher.

nationally on Verizon FiOS TV channel 169 and 669 in HD, AT&T U-Verse TV channels 470 and 1470 in HD, along with over 100 cable systems across the country as well as on line viewing on numerous connected devices and via www.wealthtv.com.

Braekhus to face Castillo in clash of unbeaten champions on September 7, Oscar Ahlin joins Team Sauerland

WBA, WBC & WBO Female Welterweight Champion Cecilia Braekhus (22-0, 6 KOs) will take on WBO Female Light Middleweight Champion Oxandia Castillo (12-0, 9 KOs) in a clash of unbeaten champions on September 7. Castillo shocked the boxing world in February when she stopped Hanna Gabriel to become world champion at the age of 18. Widely considered the “next big thing in women´s boxing”, the fearless Castillo now travels to Frederikshavn to challenge the “First Lady” at Arena Nord. “Bring it on,” Braekhus said. “This should be a great fight – two unbeaten champions, two highly-motivated fighters and a great crowd in Frederikshavn. It will be another exciting night for women´s boxing. I have a lot of respect for Oxandia´s accomplishments. Her victory over Gabriel was impressive. I know what it´s like to be the up-and-coming youngster that hunts down the big names, I´ve been in her position myself. But she has never been in the ring with someone like me. Her winning streak will come to an end on September 7.”

Said promoter Nisse Sauerland: “Braekhus versus Castillo is an exciting fight of two unbeaten champions. It´s the best fighter in the world against the biggest talent with a fearsome record. Cecilia has made a habit of defending her titles against the best opponents out there and here she is again, taking on this mysterious teenage kid with the big bang. It´s a big risk Cecilia takes, Castillo is bigger and more powerful, but when you have Cecilia´s boxing skills, there is no need to be afraid of anybody. It will be another great fight at Arena Nord.”

Meanwhile, Team Sauerland is delighted to announce the signing of Swedish knock-out artist Oscar Ahlin. The 23-year-old light heavyweight from Stockholm, who has won all of his seven professional fights by KO, has inked a long-term deal with Europe´s biggest boxing promoters. He will receive regular exposure on the Nordic Fight Nights.

Ahlin is the latest addition to an ever-growing line-up of Swedish talents that already features WBC Light Heavyweight Youth Champion Erik Skoglund (17-0, 9 KOs), London 2012 Olympian Anthony Yigit (4-0, 1 KO) and heavyweight hopeful Otto Wallin (1-0, 1 KO). “I am thrilled to fight for Team Sauerland,” Ahlin said. “They are the undisputed market leaders in Scandinavia and Europe. It´s the place to be for everybody who wants to be a champion one day. The Nordic Fight Nights will provide me with a fantastic opportunity to show who I am and what I am capable of doing. It will be fun with so many Swedish fighters. ”

Ahlin made his name known in April 2013 when he knocked out unbeaten Norwegian Tim-Robin Lihaug in the third round of their clash in Frederikshavn. “That was a big win for me,” he said. “I wouldn´t be here had I lost that fight.”

Ahlin will return to the ring on September 7 at the Nordic Fight Night in Frederikshavn. Tickets are available at www.arenanord.dk. More fights will be announced in due course.

RODNEY BERMAN PREDICTS AN EXPLOSIVE FIGHT CARD ON SECOND FORAY TO MONTE CARLO

New York, NY / Monaco / Johannesburg (July 4) – South Africa’s Rodney Berman has brought together a top fight card to conclude the “Monte Carlo Million Dollar Super Four” tournament in Monaco next weekend.

The two main bouts have a strong element of East versus West, with Russia’s Denis Grachev (13-1-1, 8 KOs) against the US’s Edwin Rodriguez (23-0, 15 KOs) for the Super Four title and unbeaten Russian Khabib Allakhverdiev (18-0, 8 KOs) defending his WBA and IBO light-welterweight titles against France’s former champion, Souleymane M’baye (40-4-1, 22 KOs).

Additionally, Maksym Bursak (26-1-1, 12 KOs) of Ukraine will put his European middleweight title on the line against Prince Arron (23-4-1, 5 KOs) of England, while Dmytro Kucher (21-0, 15 KOs), also of Ukraine, will defend his WBC International Silver cruiserweight belt against Junior Makabu (13-1, 13 KOs) of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

“These fights resonate strongly with the European market, but there has been plenty of interest also from America,” explained Berman, CEO of Golden Gloves in South Africa. “The Super Four final will be fought at catchweight, but obviously Rodriguez is a big name at super-middleweight where a lot of exciting things are happening. I’ve no doubt the winner of this fight will be catapulted into a major championship fight, having proved himself in Monte Carlo.”

Berman also predicts Monte Carlo will represent a big opportunity for Allakhverdiev, a top fighter yet to crack big-name international recognition. “If he produces the goods against M’baye, who always comes to fight, the likes of Lucas Matthysse and Mike Alvarado can’t but sit up and take notice. Remember, he’s already beaten Joan Guzman and pulverized former IBO champion Kaizer Mabuza. Allakhverdiev is among the new wave of outstanding fighters emerging from Eastern Europe, among them Grachev and Gennady Golovkin. I think the fights will be sensational.”

Berman said that hot-running Golovkin will be attending as a VIP, but also to support his good friend Grachev, with whom he shared a fight camp ahead of his recent title defence. Golovkin, fresh off his outstanding knockout of Matthew Macklin, will also undertake autograph sessions.

The veteran promoter believes that the cruiserweight bout between Kucher and Makabu could be the most explosive on the card. Makabu is on an unbeaten run of 13 stoppages and Kucher has 15 inside-the-distance wins from his 21 fights.

“I’ve really struggled to match Makabu, because so few fighters want to go in with a puncher. But happily Kucher has stepped forward. I’d recommend that fans don’t blink – these guys bring heavy artillery.”

The tournament takes place at the glittering Salles de Etoile entertainment venue on the Monte Carlo sea shore on July 13.

YURI FOREMAN RETURNS TO BROADWAY BOXING ON JULY 24

Yuri Foreman2
New York, NY (7/3/13) – On Wednesday, July 24, DiBella Entertainment (DBE) and 50 Cent’s SMS Promotions will return to Roseland Ballroom for the latest installment of the Broadway Boxing series. Former junior middleweight champion Yuri Foreman (30-2-0-1NC, 8 KOs) will headline this card that also includes the popular and undefeated female junior featherweight, Heather Hardy (5-0).

Foreman won the WBA junior middleweight championship by stopping Daniel Santos in the ninth round, on November 14, 2009, before losing the crown to Miguel Cotto at Yankee Stadium in 2010. Ending a nearly two-year layoff, Foreman returned to the ring in 2013, looking to regain his lofty status and put himself back into the world rankings. He has thus far won two bouts by unanimous decision. On January 23, Foreman shook off the rust and outboxed Brandon Baue over six rounds, at BB King Blues Club, and on April 4, he defeated Gundrick King, at Roseland Ballroom. Up next on July 24, Foreman is slated to take on the experienced Jamaal Davis (14-9-1, 6 KOS), of Philadelphia, who has faced the likes of Patrick Majewski, Gabriel Rosado, Joel Julio, Ossie Duran, and Peter Quillin.

The dynamic and always-exciting Heather Hardy, of Brooklyn, turned pro on August 2, 2012, and has impressively won five straight contests. Last time out, she moved up to six-round bouts, winning a unanimous decision over Mikayla Nebel in a rematch on April 4. Tomorrow, she will make an appearance on Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks Spectacular, on NBC, between 8:00-10:00pm ET, in an interview from the famed Gleason’s Gym. Hardy will also be fighting on the July 24 Broadway Boxing against an opponent to be determined.

Additional bouts on the card and an opponent for Hardy will be announced shortly.

The card is promoted by DiBella Entertainment (DBE) and 50 Cent’s SMS Promotions and sponsored by Manfredi Auto Group, Newlio.com, and Everlast. SNY will broadcast the event tape-delayed. Tickets are currently on sale and can be purchased through Ticketmaster by calling (800) 745-3000. Tickets are priced at $125, $85, $65 and $45. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. ET with the first bout scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.

“THE ONE: MAYWEATHER VS. CANELO” PRESS TOUR STOP IN LOS ANGELES ATTRACTS 10,000 FANS

mayweather2
LOS ANGELES (July 3, 2013) – “THE ONE: MAYWEATHER VS. CANELO” press tour came to a spectacular conclusion Tuesday night before 10,000 energetic and enthusiastic fans at Nokia Plaza at L.A. LIVE.

Tempers didn’t exactly flare between Floyd Mayweather, Canelo Alvarez and their camps during the lively festivities that included loud music, a mariachi band and colorful streamers shot into the air, but, for the first time during the enormously successful nine-day, 10-city tour, the respective teams were less than completely complimentary of each other on stage.

Golden Boy President Oscar De La Hoya, who was seated next to Canelo at the dais, told the pro-Canelo crowd that he was “convinced Canelo will win.” Fans, who had chanted “Ca-nel-o” throughout, often drowning out the speakers, erupted in cheers. Moments earlier, De La Hoya said he “believed this event will break all the (pay-per-view) records” and that “this will be the best fight in the history of the sport.”

When it was his turn to speak, Canelo reiterated what he had said throughout the tour, that he fully appreciated the fans’ support, that this was “his time and we’re going to win this together.”

Mayweather, who took a verbal shot at De La Hoya at the podium while comparing his (Mayweather’s) resume to Canelo’s, told reporters afterward that “this was the only time on the press tour that there was trash talk.”

“They never said a word in the first nine cities,’’ Mayweather said. “They were totally quiet. Now, all of a sudden we’re in L.A. and they’re talking big like, Canelo is the king. Well, as you saw, if you shoot shots at me, I’ll shoot shots back. How you react to me is how I’ll react to you. You show me respect, I show you respect.

“Every time they give a fighter a huge buildup, I bring them down. It’s so crazy. Canelo is a great, young, strong champion, but he’s never fought on pay-per-view unless he’s been on one of my undercards. I’ve been here before, done it all for 17 years. Does he belong in the ring with me? We’ll just have to see, but I haven’t seen it yet.

“I’m young, strong and rich. He may be number one in his division, but I’m number one in boxing. You’ll see on September 14.”

Mayweather was joined on stage by his mother and three of his young children. “Tonight was great,” he said. “The atmosphere here in Los Angeles was amazing, but this was also a special night for me because it was the first time my mother and children were up here with me.

“My mother, she’s a brilliant person. Today, I was going to write her a one million dollar check. Then, I got to thinking, what she’s given to me, my skills, my life, well I realized what she’s done for me is priceless. A one million dollar check would be a start, but could not in any way repay her.”

Mayweather said he had been playing a lot of basketball on the tour and that he is in great physical condition, but that he’s “in basketball shape, not boxing shape. That comes soon. It’s time to get to work.”

Floyd also said that his company, Mayweather Promotions, would make a donation to the families of the firefighters who were killed by the devastating wildfires near Phoenix earlier this week.

“Our hearts and prayers go out to the families of the people who lost their lives in those fires,” he said. “This was a terribly tragedy and everyone needs to support them. Never take anything for granted.”

Canelo was thrilled to be part of the unprecedented press tour. “This is my job and I enjoyed every moment of it,” he said. “Every city was different, but the atmosphere was always the same. I was so impressed with all the fans in all the cities, especially the ones in Chicago, Mexico City, San Antonio and tonight in Los Angeles. I appreciate all the fans everywhere.”

In Los Angeles, not unlike most of the other cities on the tour, Canelo appeared to be the crowd favorite.

“Canelo-Mania,” as Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer put it, “had hit the United States. I’ve seen it across the nation, in Mexico and in the U.S.,” said Schaefer, who emceed Tuesday’s proceedings. “We had 100,000 fans come out for the press conferences. Based on what we know and the monies generated already, I’m convinced this fight on September 14 is The ONE to break the pay-per-view record (2.5 million buys, set by Mayweather-De La Hoya in 2007).”

“Was I more popular on the tour?” Canelo replied in response to a question during a roundtable session with the media before the outdoor press conference. “It’s not for me to say. It’s up to you to decide.”

As for who has more to lose on Sept. 14, Canelo said, “I don’t know who does, but I’m not going to lose. This is the fight the fans wanted to see. I’ll be ready whether and I have to box and move, or stand and slug. Mayweather is a very difficult fighter, one of the best, and he has a very difficult style.

“We plan to study a lot of tape, especially his first fight with Jose Luis Castillo, who gave him the most problems. I know I haven’t reached my peak yet and that I still have a lot to learn, but I wish it was September 14 already. It’s an honor for me to be fighting on such an important weekend like Mexican Independence Day.”

Canelo didn’t think his weight fluctuated much during the sometimes exhausting tour. “I was able to run on a treadmill at the hotel every couple days,” he said. “I think my weight today is about what it was when we started.”

The freckle-faced, red-haired Canelo, who turns 23 on July 18, was scheduled to fly to Guadalajara Wednesday morning. He will spend a few days at home with his family before returning to Los Angeles early next week where he will finalize preparations for training camp which will take place in the mountains near Big Bear, Calif.

The top priority on his immediate agenda, however, Canelo says is “sleep. That’s the first thing I’ll do.” he said.

“THE ONE: MAYWEATHER VS. CANELO,” a 12-round fight for Canelo’s WBC, WBA and Ring Magazine Super Welterweight World Championships and Mayweather’s WBA Super Welterweight Super World Championship taking place Saturday, Sept. 14 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, is promoted by Mayweather Promotions, Golden Boy Promotions and Canelo Promotions and sponsored by Corona, O’Reilly Auto Parts and Valvoline. The mega-event will be produced and distributed live by SHOWTIME PPV® beginning at 9:00 p.m. ET/6:00 p.m. PT. The event can be heard in Spanish using secondary audio programming (SAP).

Less than 24 hours after going on sale on June 25, the event was sold out, but six MGM Resorts properties will host live closed circuit telecasts of “THE ONE.” Properties showcasing the event include ARIA, MGM Grand, Mandalay Bay, The Mirage, Monte Carlo and New York-New York. General admission tickets for the closed circuit telecasts are priced at $100, not including handling fees, and are available for purchase at each individual property’s box office outlets and also are available for purchase by phone with a major credit card at 866-799-7711.
