In the main event, Kaiyana Rain Tan (2-1) battles Lena Hellgvist (1-1) in a women’s 115 bout. Tan has great cardio as she has gone to a decision in all 3 of her bouts, including her lone loss which was by split decision. Tan is a grinder that likes to outwork her opponents in the cage and constantly put pressure on her foes to keep up with her rapid pace. Tan will look to outstrike Hellgvist early on and then build up points from there. For Hellgvist, is coming off a win in her last fight that ended in the first round via TKO. A heavy hitter, Hellgvist will probably be the stronger of the two women in the cage. She will look to take advantage of the strength difference by landing the harder strikes and causing more damage to Tan and if the fight goes to the ground she will look to control the action on the mat and out wrestle Tan for dominant position. Both Tan and Hellgvist are very exciting fighters and this bout should be full throttle. In the co-main event, Mike Jenkins (2-0) fights Nick Home (0-0) in a lightweight matchup. Jenkins has been impressive in his 2 outings as they have both men first round stoppages, one by KO which lasted 8 seconds and one by submission. Home is an unknown so he could have the advantage in game planning as he at least knows the strengths of Jenkins, whereas Jenkins will just have to be prepared for anything and everything. These fights, more often than not turn out to be barnburners as both fighters want to go in there and mix it up and prove from the beginning that they are the dominant fighter in the cage.

The winner of this bout will be considered the top 135 lb fighter in the region as a whole. In the co-main event, Solon “Sharktooth” Staley (10-3) fights Ronnie “The Heat” Lawrence (3-3) for the ISKA Regional Bantamweight Championship. Staley holds titles with numerous other organizations, so he will be ready to fight in this championship bout. Staley is a strong grappler and especially likes the guillotine choke as half his wins have come from this submission alone. Staley will look to get the fight to the ground and attack Lawrence’s neck either with a guillotine or rear naked choke. For Lawrence, he fights a high reward-high risk style as evidenced by his .500 record. You never know what Lawrence will do in the ring as he can wrestle and strike so it will be interesting to see which strategy Lawrence tries to implement. The third title fight of the evening features Jason “The Nightmare” Faglier Jr. (6-0) fighting Nicholas Vecchione (2-5) with the ISKA SC Bantamweight Championship at stake. For the undefeated Faglier Jr., he already holds two titles in his young career and has only gone to a decision once, submitting his other 5 opponents. Faglier is a tremendous grappler who can beat you with a choke, armbar or any other finishing hold so look for him to try for a takedown early on. This is a career defining fight for Vecchione as a victory over Faglier Jr. could put his career on an upward swing in a hurry. Vecchione is coming off a great victory in his last fight where he scored a submission victory in the final round. With momentum at his back Vecchione believes now is the time for him to make his mark and show the crowd in Columbia that his record is very deceiving.

In the main event, and a unification bout, Richard Arsenault (4-2) of Wellington, PE defends his Elite 1 MMA Welterweight Championship against tough challenger and interim champion Meneka Weva (2-3) of Moncton, NB. The two fighters have history as Arsenault defeated Weva in 2011 by rear naked choke and looks to do the same thing again and prove he is the sole champion at 170 lb. TAMPA, FL, May 2 – With the training camp for his June 2nd SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING main event against unbeaten Lateef Kayode heating up, former light heavyweight champion and current IBO Cruiserweight champion Antonio “Magic Man” Tarver took time out from his busy schedule to check in with his thoughts on another high-profile matchup – the May 5th meeting between Floyd Mayweather and Miguel Cotto,

“I think that Mayweather’s coming in with all the natural God-given ability and talent, and Cotto comes in with the physical game,” said Tarver, who also doubles as a ringside analyst for SHOWTIME. “But we’ve seen Cotto beat, and beaten bad on two occasions. He was outclassed against (Manny) Pacquiao, and he took a beating against (Antonio) Margarito. We haven’t seen that with Floyd Mayweather yet. I think he (Mayweather) is at the top of the game right now, and he’s gonna have more options to do the things that he does in the ring.”

Yet despite the odds, Tarver doesn’t count the 154-pound world champion from Puerto Rico out against the unbeaten “Money” Mayweather, even though he believes Cotto will have to throw the boxing equivalent of a perfect game in Las Vegas.

“Cotto’s gonna have to be perfect,” said Tarver, who upset 5 to 1 odds in his most recent bout, knocking out Danny Green in the ninth round last July. “Cotto’s gonna have to be physical, have his defense intact, and he’s gonna have to match Floyd. When Floyd opens up, he’s gonna have to punch with him. That’s how you negate speed, and that’s a big risk, but his reward is so gigantic that’s he’s gonna have to be willing to lay it all on the line and if has to go out on his shield, go out trying to get that victory.”

As for Mayweather, Tarver is looking forward to seeing what his teammate on the 1996 United States Olympic boxing team has in store, not just on May 5th, but in the future.

“Floyd’s gonna have to keep doing what he’s doing, and in two or three more fights, he can ride out into the sunset,” he said. “Hopefully Pacquiao’s in the scheme of things and we can see that fight eventually. That would be great if he could pull that off. If he beats Pacquiao, he’s one of the greatest of all-time and not too many people can say that.”

MIAMI, FL (May 2, 2012) – Two-time world champion Randall “The Knock-out King” Bailey, arguably the biggest pound-for-pound single puncher in boxing, finally gets an opportunity to exorcise years of demon-like frustrations on June 9, when he takes on unbeaten Mike Jones for the vacant International Boxing Federation (“IBF”) Welterweight Championship, in the 12-round co-feature on the Manny Pacquiao-Timothy Bradley pay-per-view card, live from MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

For years, Bailey (42-7, 36 KOs) has been considered too much of a risk for some of today’s brightest stars. Awesome, one-punch knockout ability will do just that to a fighter’s reputation like Bailey’s. Ask Jackson Isei Bonsu and Frankie Figueroa, two of Bailey’s 36 knockout victims, who were literally out cold before they hit the mat, after getting chin-checked by a powerful Randall right.

“Randall Bailey has been frustrated most of his career,” his longtime manager Si Stern said. “He is unquestionably the strongest puncher in the world today and, I know this may sound crazy to some, maybe in boxing history. Just look at his knockout record. He’s been shunned by a lot of top fighters out there today. Why? They know Randall can take them out with one punch. History tells us that dangerous punchers like Randall have always been avoided.

“Jones (IBF #1) didn’t want to fight Randall (IBF #2), either. The IBF pushed the issue and said that Jones had to fight Randall or he’d lose his world title shot. Once he wins the world title again – he was too young when he was world champion – he knows the money will follow and that’s what has kept Randall going. He has no fear of Mayweather, Pacquiao or any of the other top welterweights. Randall knows that he can knock out any of them because of his power. Mayweather doesn’t want to fight Randall, who loves stand-up fighters like Pacquiao. His past problems have been against opponents who hit and run. Guys who stand and fight have never been a problem for Randall.”

The 37-year-old Bailey, now promoted by DiBella Entertainment, made his pro debut in 1996, when Jones was sweet sixteen. Randall won his first 21 pro fights, all by knockouts, including his World Boxing Organization (“WBO”) light welterweight title-winning performance against Carlos Gonzalez in 1999, followed by two successful title defenses against Hector Lopez and Rocky Martinez. In 2002, Bailey stopped Demetrio Ceballos in the third round to become the Interim World Boxing Association (“WBA”) Light Welterweight Champion.

After losing his IBF 140-pound title shot in 2009 to Juan Urango, Bailey moved up in weight to welterweight, and he is unbeaten in four fights in that division with three victories, including the Bonsu knockout in their IBF title eliminator, and a no decision.

“I pleaded with him to get out of the 140-pound division,” Stern note. “He walks around at 154 pounds, so making weight is no longer a struggle for him at welterweight. I bet he’s within a few pounds of making weight for the Jones fight right now, working out in Florida with his trainer, John David Jackson. Jones has never fought anybody like Randall Bailey; he will knock out Jones.”

Five of Bailey’s seven career losses have been to world champions: Urango, Miguel Cotto, Ener Julio, and Diosbelys Hurtado. Randall has defeated three world champions: Gonzalez, Corley, and Juan Polo Perez.

Like fine wine, Randall Bailey keeps getting better with age, something Stern believes Jones will discover June 9, probably at the end of single, concussive punch.

Newtown, PA—It’s official: State Championship Boxing is coming to the Newtown Athletic Club.

Terrance The Heat Cauthen and The New Ray Robinson will battle for 10 rounds, or less, for the vacant Pennsylvania Welterweight Title on Saturday evening, May 12, at the Newtown Athletic Club (NAC), 120 Pheasant Run, Newtown, PA.

Cauthen (36-7, 9 K0s), who has held the NABF junior welterweight title, NABA junior welterweight title and USBA junior middleweight title, won a bronze medal for the United States at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games.

By contrast, Robinson (13-2, 5 K0s) has never fought for a title and has been waiting for this opportunity since he turned pro in 2006.

“I am ready for this; it is going to be a good fight, said Robinson. “It is time for Cauthen to pass
the torch; it is my time to shine.”

To get here, it’s been a long and winding road for Cauthen, who first went to Joe Frazier’s Gym and later represented Philadelphia at the 1996 Olympic Games. His Philadelphia teammates included Gold Medalist David Reid and Zahir Raheem. Since then, only Rock Allen has been able to represent Philadelphia at the Olympics, doing it in 2004.

Others on that well-known 1996 US Olympic team were Floyd Mayweather, David Diaz, Fernando Vargas and Antonio Tarver. All four professional boxing championships.

Though he lives in Trenton, NJ, Cauthen was adopted by Philadelphia, the same as old-timers like former NABF light-heavyweight champ Richie Kates, of Millville, NJ, and current heavyweight contender Eddie Chambers, of Pittsburgh, PA.

Cauthen has already been in Robinson’s shoes and he knows his role in the fight game. He understands the hunger Robinson has and the skills that go along with it.

Though Robinson did not box on the Olympic team, he was on the US national team which traveled internationally to compete. He has boxed in Russia, Italy, and Turkey among others. Cauthen may be the more experience fighter, but that is only because of his age. Robinson is more experienced than many fighters at his age due to his amateur and professional background.

This bout will determine not only the PA Welterweight Champion, but also who is the best local southpaw at 147 pounds.

Jhonny Gonzalez retained the WBC Featherweight title with a twelve round unanimous decision over former beltholder Elio Rojas in Cancun, Mexico.

Gonzalez scored a knockdown in round ten and was more active throughout the bout and won by scores of 116-111; 116-112 and 117-111.

Gonzalez, 125.4 lbs of Mexico City is now 52-7. Rojas, 124.3 lbs of San Francisco, Dominican Republic is 23-2.

Juan Carlos Salgado became a two-time world champion with a hard fought twelve round majority decision over veteran Martin Honorio to claim the IBF Jr. Lightweight title

Salgado dropped Honorio in round two and fought through a terrible cut that streamed down from his left eye.

Scores were 113-113; 114-112 and 114-112 for Salgado, of Mexico and is now 25-1-1. Honorio, 130 lbs also of Mexico City is now32-7-1.

Julio Ceja scored a third round stoppage over Cruz Carbajal in a Super Bantamweight bout.

Ceja landed an overhand right to the top of the head that sent Carbajal down in the corner and was down for the ten count forty-four seconds of round three.

Ceja is now 19-0 with eighteen knockouts. Carbajal of Veracruz, MX is now 31-19-2.

Luis Ceja scored a fifth round stoppage over Sammy Reyes in a scheduled eight round Flyweight bout.

Ceja dropped Reyes twice in round three and one more time in round five and the fight was stopped at 2:14 of round five.

KIEV, UKRAINE (April 30, 2012) WBA Middleweight Champion Gennady Golovkin and his noted trainer Abel Sanchez have arrived in Kiev, Ukraine where Golovkin will defend his world title on Saturday, May 12th against Japanese champion Makoto Fuchigami at the Ice Palace “Terminal”.

Known for his devastating knockouts and fan friendly style, the undefeated Golovkin sports a record of 22-0-0 with nineteen stoppages while the southpaw Fuchigami, 19-6-0 (10KO’s), enters the twelve round clash with a nine bout-winning streak, eight by knockout.

A native of Kazakhstan and living in Stuttgart, Germany, Golovkin returns to action following a brutal first round knockout of Philadelphia based contender Lajuan Simon on December 9th in Dusseldorf, Germany. Putting those differences to rest, the two parties met face to face and agreed to move forward together and fulfill Molina’s dream of becoming world champion.

John Molina Jr. is widely considered one of the hottest young lightweight prospects in boxing. ATLANTIC CITY (April 30, 2012)—Lavarn “Baby Bowe” Harvell made it a perfect ten when he annihilated Anthony Pietrantonio in round three of a scheduled four round Light Heavyweight bout as part of the Bernard Hopkins – Chad Dawson II undercard at Boardwalk Hall.

Harvell dropped Pietrantonio in round one and the continued to dominate until a vicious right that knocked Pietrantonio down and out at thirty-one seconds of round three. Pietrantonio was momentarily unconscious but fortunately he was able to leave the ring under his own power.

Thomas Oosthuizen made the most of his United States television debut on ShoBox: The New Generation by producing a crowd-pleasing unanimous decision victory over Marcus “Too Much” Johnson. The 10-round super middleweight bout was scored 98-91 on all three scorecards.

After losing the first fight of his career in his last ShoBox appearance, Johnson (21-2, 15 KOs), of Houston, came out bullish and determined to outperform the IBO super middleweight titlist Oosthuizen. Jumping out from his corner at the opening bell, Johnson bolted directly at his six-foot-four opponent and attacked him with a barrage of head and body blows. Oosthuizen (19-0-1, 13 KOs) of Gauteng, South Africa, absorbed some early punishment but maintained his composure.

Despite his height advantage of more than five inches, the tall South African did not always keep his distance, choosing to fight off the ropes during many portions of the contest. As the bout entered the fourth and fifth rounds, the 26-year-old Johnson slowed and Oosthuizen upped his work rate. A busy southpaw, Oosthuizen threw most of his punches in bunches including repeated left-right, left-right combos to the ribs.

In the eighth, Oosthuizen pressured Johnson into the blue corner and forced the Texan to take a knee after landing a right hook to the body. Johnson beat the count and the two battled it out for the final rounds before the scores revealed that Oosthuizen claimed the latest victory in his budding career.

“I never underestimated Johnson,” said the 24-year-old Oosthuizen. “I expected him to come out fast but I knew it would be sink or swim. I think he was surprised when I surpassed his big punches at the beginning. I could tell he was beginning to tire by the third or fourth round because I could hear how heavily he was breathing.”

Luis Del Valle scored a ten round unanimous decision over battle tested Christopher Martin in a Super Bantamweight bout.

Del Valle controlled most of the action as he had a solid speed advantage. Martin fought pretty well in spots. In round seven, Martin briefly turned southpaw and it costed him as Del Valle landed a little flush left hook that put Martin on the deck. Martin got up and was competitive but it was Del Valle who came home with the 100-89; 98-91 and 97-92 win.

Del Valle, 123 of Bayamon, PR is now 16-0. Martin, 123 lbs of San Diego is now 23-2-3.

Jose Pedraza scored an eight round unanimous decision over Gil Garcia in a Jr. Lightweight bout.

Pedraza scored a knockdown in round three from a left hook and dominated the bout by boxing from the outside.

Scores were 80-71; 79-72 and 79-72 for Pedraza, 131 1/2 lbs of Cidra, PR and is now 8-0. Garcia, 132 1/4 lbs of Houston, TX and is now 5-3-1.

Behind on the scorecards, Denis Grachev came back to score an eighth round stoppage over highly touted Ismayl Sillakh in a bout that featured undefeated fighters at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin, Texas.

Sillakh dropped Grachev in round three from a straight hand. Sillakh used his height and boxing skills to keep the hard punches of Grachev at a minimum.

In round eight, Grachev landed a hard right that rocked Sillakh into the corner. Grachev pounced on Sillakh and landed a flurry of hard punches that put Sillakh down just as the referee stopped the bout at 2:18 of round eight.

Grachev, 174 lbs of San Diego is now 12-0-1 with eight knockouts. Sillakh, 175 lbs of Los Angeles is 17-0-1.

In a battle of undefeated Jr. Lightweights, Javier Fortuna stopped Yaundale Evans in round one of a scheduled ten round bout.

Fortuna viciously dropped Evans with a straight left that was followed by a hard right hand. Somehow Evans was able to get to his feet only to suffer more punishment and was dropped again and the fight was stopped 2:02 into the fight.

Fortuna, 128 lbs of Oxnard, CA is now 19-0 with thirteen knockouts. Evans, 127 1/2 lbs of Cleveland, OH is now 16-1.

Bailey (41-7, 36 KOs), of Miami, Fla., is no stranger to world championship fights having won world titles twice, so far, in his 16-year professional career. He captured his first world title, the WBO junior welterweight championship, in 1999, via a first-round knockout of defending champion Carlos Gonzalez. Bailey successfully defended the title twice, both by knockout, against Hector Lopez and Ray Martinez before losing it via split decision to Ener Julio in 2000 in a very exciting fight. In 2002 Bailey captured the WBA interim super lightweight belt with a third-round knockout of Demetrio Ceballos. Bailey, now trained by two-division world champion John David Jackson, earned his latest title shot with a first-round knockout of Jackson Osei-Bonsu, in an IBF title elimination bout in 2010.

Rigondeaux (9-0, 7 KOs), a two-time Olympic gold medalist and seven-time Cuban National Champion, lives in Miami, Fla. Kennedy (17-1-2, 7 KOs), of Philadelphia, Pa., was an amateur standout, winning gold at the 2004 National Golden Gloves Championships and the U.S. National Under 19 Championships and the 2001 Pan American Cadet Championships. His five-year professional boasts a USBA junior featherweight title reign, which he won in 2009 by knocking out Francisco Rodriguez in the 10th round. He successfully defended that title twice with 12-round unanimous decisions over Jose Beranza and previously undefeated Jorge Diaz in 2010 and 2011, respectively. Kennedy also captured the NABA super bantamweight title in 2010, knocking out Alejandro Becerra in the 10th round. In his last fight, Kennedy was awarded a disputed draw with Chris Martin, on January 13, a fight most ringside observers thought was won by Kennedy.

ATLANTIC CITY–Chad Dawson won the WBC Light Heavyweight title with a twelve round majority decision over legendary Bernard Hopkins in a lackluster fight at Boardwalk Hall.

Neither guy had any sustained flurries but Dawson won the fight because he punched and landed slightly more than the forty-seven year old Hopkins.

There was alot of clinching and rough house tactics with Dawson suffering cuts around both eyes due to accidental headbutts.

Dawson, 174 1/2 lbs of Hartford, CT won by scores of 117-111; 117-111 and 114-114. Hopkins, 173 1/2 lbs of Philadelphia is now 52-6-2-2.

Seth Mitchell remained perfect by taking out Chazz Witherspoon in round three of a scheduled twelve round Heavyweight bout.

Witherspoon dominated the first round as landed some hard rights that startled Mitchell. Mitchell righted himself in round two as he started landing his own power shots and that started the downfall for Witherspoon. Mitchell came out in round three and started bouncing Witherspoon around the ring and then put him down with a hard left hook. Witherspoon showed his fighting spirit but it proved to be his undoing and Mitchell lived up to moniker and began landing some shots that caused “Mayhem” for Witherspoon. Mitchell landed some hard shots on the ropes that caused referee Randy Neumann to first administer a standing eight and with blood dripping down the right eye eventually stopping the fight at 2:31 of round three.

Mitchell, 241 ½ lbs of Brandywyne, MD is now 25-0-1 with nineteen knockouts. Witherspoon, 231 1/2lbs of Philadelphia is 30-3.

Mikey Faragon remained perfect by scoring an eight round unanimous decision over Sergio Rivera in a Jr. Welterweight bout.

Faragon, 137 1/2 lbs of Albany,NY won by scores of 79-73; 78-74 and 78-74 and is now 18-0. Rivera, 139.6 of Mexico is now 16-10-2

Lavarn “Baby Bowe” Harvell made it a perfect ten when he annihilated Anthony Pietrantonio in round three of a scheduled four round Light Heavyweight bout as part of the Bernard Hopkins – Chad Dawson II undercard at Boardwalk Hall.

Harvell dropped Pietrantonio in round one and the continued to dominate until a vicious left hook knocked Pietrantonio down and out at thirty-one seconds of round three. Pietrantonio was momentarily unconscious but fortunately he was able to leave the ring under his own power.

Philadelphia Jr. Middleweight pounded out an eight round unanimous decision over Hector Rosado.

Scores were 79-73,79-73 and 78-74 for Williams, 154 1/2 lbs and is now 9-0-1.Rosado, 155 1/2 lbs of Gunabo, Puerto Rico and is now 7-2-2.

Phil Lo Greco survived a first round knockdown to come back and win the remaining five rounds over Hector Orozco and win a six round unanimous decision in a Welterweight bout.

Scores were 59-54; 58-55 and 58-55 for Lo Greco, 149 lbs of Toronto and is now 23-0. Orozco, 149 lbs of Minneapolis, MN and is now 5-11.

PHILADELPHIA(April 25, 2012)—After many months of disregarding and downplaying a potential bout with former two-time IBF Cruiserweight champion Steve “USS” Cunningham, former Light Heavyweight world champion Antonio Tarver has finally stepped up to the plate, well sort of.

For the past several months, Cunningham & Tarver have been going back in forth on twitter but whenever the prospect of a fight gets brought up, Tarver has had one excuse after another and then Tarver took a June 2nd fight with little known Lateef Kayode.

Well finally Tarver, has acknowledged that a fight with Cunningham would be a meaningful one and has said a fight with Cunningham could happen if Cunningham could get support of the fans to tune in by garnering 20,000 twitter followers.

Team Cunningham decided to step up to the challenge and has launched a twitter campaign titled, “Can Twitter Make A Fight?- @USSvsMagicMan”. This social media experiment will see if twitter is a powerful enough tool to get this fight made with the support of 20,000 boxing fans. The team acknowledges that this is a tall order given the lack of attention the cruiserweight division gets in the states, but they feel that if fans want to see a good fight, this should not matter.

When asked about the prospect of this fight happening, Cunningham said, “This is a fight I have wanted for the longest and Tarver has made up many excuses to not make it happen. I was honestly ready to move on from the idea, but he made the challenge and me and my team are crazy enough to call him on it. Dan Rafael of espn.com is reporting that Welterweight Alfonso Gomez was forced to withdraw from his May 5th bout with Jesse Vargas that was scheduled for the Floyd Mayweather- Miguel Cotto PPV undercard.

“Alfonso developed some serious back spasms (last week) and at first I thought he would just take a day off and rest. So we canceled sparring one day. But then we had to cancel a second day of sparring,” Saod Gomez manager Gary Gittelsohn. “And he never got much better.”

“But we gave Alfonso the weekend off to see if he’d feel any better,” Gittelsohn said. “The orthopedist said he didn’t think Alfonso was in any condition to do any running or strenuous activity. So that put him out of commission in critical moments of his training. So we canceled officially (Monday night) and I alerted Eric, who was disappointed as we all were. But these things happen. I’m so bummed.”

“I really felt like this was the perfect resurrection opportunity for Alfonso (coming off the loss to Alvarez) on the biggest showcase of the year,” Gittelsohn said. “We’re taking it day by day. I told Eric that I really want this fight for Alfonso and we hope it can be rescheduled down the line.”

“We were informed (Monday) night about this and we’re looking at some replacements,” Schaefer said. “I’m confident that Eric and Team Vargas will find a suitable replacement.”

CHESTER, PA (April 24, 2012)—On Friday night May 4th, grizzled veteran Dhafir “No Fear” Smith has stepped in for the injured Tommy Karpency and will face Tony “Boom Boom” Ferrante for the Pennsylvania State Light Heavyweight championship at Harrahs in Chester.

Smith holds a win over former IBF Super Middleweight champ Jeff Lacy.

Ferrante of Philadelphia has a record of 12-3 with seven knockouts and is coming off a ten round loss to former four time world title challenger Omar Sheika in what many are hailing as one of the best fights in Pennsylvania in recent years.

In that fight, Sheika and Ferrante fought tooth and nail in a bout where both guys were battered and exchanged heavy shots throughout the fight. Ferrante landed some great shots but it wasn’t enough as Sheika applied pressure and outlasted the tough Ferrante and won by scores of 99-90, 99-90 and a better indicator of 95-94.

Ferrante won his first nine professional bouts before dropping back to back bouts to Chuck Mussachio (15-1-2) and Ronson Frank (17-0).
