Alexander – Bradley lands just outside Detroit

According to Dan Rafael of espn.com, the January 29 showdown between Jr. Welterweight beltholders, Devon Alexander and Tomothy Bradley will take place at the Pontiac Silverdome in Pontiac, Michigan.

“We’re going to the Silverdome, [outside of] Detroit. It’s done,” Said Gary Shaw who promotes Bradley.

“The two finalists were Atlanta and Detroit and at the end of the day, we felt Detroit was the best place to the put the fight. Detroit is a great fight town and has a rich fight history,” Shaw said of the city that produced several boxing stars, including Thomas Hearns. “We’re excited to go there and give them a great fight with these two great young fighters. HBO has promised to put a lot of muscle behind this fight.”

EXCLUSIVE ONE-ON-ONE WITH SHAMONE “THE TRUTH” ALVAREZ FIGHTING SATURDAY NIGHT FOR THE IBA WELTERWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP–WATCH LIVE ON GFL

CLICK TO ORDER THE FIGHT
On Saturday night, Atlantic City native, Shamone “The Truth” Alvarez (21-2, 12KO’s) looks to take yet another step towards challenging for a world title when he takes on Ghana’s Ayi Bruce (17-3, 12KO’s) in the main event bout of the evening in the Grand Ballroom at Bally’s in Atlantic City. The bout, promoted by Star Boxing, is scheduled for ten rounds and will be for the vacant IBA Welterweight Championship.

Alvarez, recently sat down to talk about his upcoming bout, the loaded welterweight division, and where he sees himself in the coming years.

Q: Shamone, how has this training camp been?

SA: Training camp has been how it usually is, trying, intense, and I’m always learning. I’m always looking to improve and looking at what part of my game I need to focus more on. I feel great and I am more than ready to go Saturday night.

Q: What do you know about your opponent?

SA: I know my opponent is a tough guy and that he definitely is not coming to lose. He has busy hands overall and I expect him to be ready to go.

Q:In your last fight you showed that you have some serious power, knocking out your opponent with one shot. Is this something new to your arsenal or do you think you have always had this power?

SA: I believe I always possessed knock out power, it’s just the life trials I have had that kept me a little more focused on going in and doing what should be done. I’m on a mission now and you can expect to see more performances like my last from here on out. I just had a new baby girl about 9 months ago, and it has made me more focused and hungrier than ever to succeed in this game.

Q: You fight in a very loaded division, how do you think you match up against some of the other top guys out there? Is there anyone on your direct hit list?

SA: Yes the division is loaded but not only do I feel, but I know that I can hang with all of them. There is no one in particular at 147 I will avoid or not step up against. I’m ready, willing and able to go in with whoever my promoter Star Boxing puts in front of me.

Q: Give us your perfect 2011?

SA: Well first I must win this fight and pick up the IBA belt. Then I would like to defend my title and work my way back into a Title Elimination and by the end of the year I would like to be fighting for a World Championship.

Q: Thank you for sitting down with us, is there anything you want to say in closing?

SA: I just want to thank everyone for their continued support and look forward to having everyone come out and show their support this Saturday night at Bally’s. A lot of people counted me out after the Joshua Clotty fight and then most definitely after the Delvin Rodriguez fight. But so everyone is aware, I have learned how not to let things slip past me anymore. I’m the same with my focus, I just know what I have to do it to get the W. So for all those people who did count me out, remember I’m still here. I made some noise this year and plan to make even more in 2011. Remember GOD is all that matters in life and let him know you know every once and a while. Peace.

Chavez Jr. – Wolak off; PPV card for Saturday still on

According to Dan Rafael of espn.com, the Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. – Pawel Wolak fight scheduled for Saturday night as part of a Top Rank PPV card is off due to Chavez being ill but the rest of the show will go on that will feature two title fights.

Chavez woke up with a 103-degree temperature on Tuesday and won’t fight, Top Rank promoter Bob Arum told ESPN.com.

“He looked like he had shaken it and he worked out Monday. I was there and I saw it,” said Bob Arum, who will promote the show from Anaheim, California. “His legs were a little tight but he worked out OK. [Tuesday morning] he got up with a 103 fever. He tried. You can’t fault the kid. You can’t put him in a fight with a temperature. It is absolutely legitimate.”

Instead of the Chavez-Wolak main event, Arum said he would elevate the scheduled co-feature, a 12-round bantamweight match between the Philippines’ pound-for-pound-ranked Nonito Donaire (24-1, 16 KOs) and former bantamweight titlist Wladimir Sidorenko (22-2-2, 7 KOs) of Ukraine.

“He got sick last Thursday after sparring and we kind of knew something was wrong,” strength coach Alex Ariza told ESPN.com. “He felt a little weak, but he finished 10 rounds [of sparring] but he kept telling Freddie he wasn’t in the groove. We thought maybe it was just a bad day, but later that night when he did an interview he started getting the cold sweats.

“He got back in the ring on Monday. He did four rounds, but once he started hitting the mitts with Freddie, he had cramps in his legs and later that night when we went to my house, he had a low-grade fever. [Tuesday morning] he woke up around 7 when we were going to train and he had a higher fever, about 102 or 103, and we knew this was more serious than we thought. I reported to Bob and he said if the kid is sick, he’s sick and there’s nothing we can do about it between now and Saturday.”

Arum said Wolak (27-1, 17 KOs) would remain on the televised portion of the card and could face Mexico’s Jose Pinzon (18-1-1, 12 KOs), although Wolak and his team wanted to view a video of Pinzon before committing to the bout.

Also on the card: lightweight titlist Humberto Soto (53-7-2, 32 KOs) of Mexico defends his belt against Urbano Antillon (28-1, 20 KOs) of Maywood, Calif., and featherweight contender Miguel Angel “Mikey” Garcia (23-0, 19 KOs) of Oxnard, Calif., faces Olivier Lontchi (18-1-2, 8 KOs) of Montreal.

“I’m not going to cancel the show,” Arum said. “Anyone who wants a refund at the gate can get a refund. But you can’t cancel the show and do that to the kids who were getting ready to fight for the past six or eight weeks. You have an obligation if you can to follow through on the card.”

Nate Campbell retires

According to Dan Rafael of espn.com, former lightweight champion Nate Campbell has retired after his disappointing loss to Walter Estrada this past Saturday night in Las Vegas as part of the Juan Manuel Marquez – Michael Katsidis undercard.

“First of all, I want to let everyone know that I’m fine. But after thinking about Saturday’s fight, I know it’s time for me to hang it up,” Campbell said in a statement. “I’ve reached the point where I can still see the openings, but I just can’t get my shots there in time. In this business, a tenth of a second delay is too much. And in no way do I mean any disrespect to Estrada. He came to fight and won the fight fair and square, but I’m not supposed to struggle in fights like this. And if I do struggle in fights like this, then what would that mean for me against a top tier fighter?

“I didn’t enter this sport to be anyone’s opponent. I entered this sport to become a world champion. I am fortunate that I was able to accomplish that goal. I would have liked to continue on to win titles in other divisions. However, when your body tells you that it’s time to go, then it’s time to go.”

“I had hoped that the back rehab I went through after my injury in training camp for the Ortiz fight would have made a difference,” Campbell said. “However, mobility obviously wasn’t my only issue, and the rehab couldn’t fix my age. As we get older, things slow down a bit, and the 135 and 140 divisions just don’t work well for a 38-year-old.”

Terry Trekas, Campbell’s longtime adviser and close friend, believes Campbell’s retirement will stick, even though boxing is littered with fighters who make ill-advised comebacks.

“I’m extremely confident it will stick,” Trekas said. “I don’t think he’ll ever get the idea he can compete at the level he wants to and used to be able to. I hope someone doesn’t offer him money to be a stepping stone and that his financial circumstances don’t make him consider it. There’s nothing wrong with being an opponent because the sport can’t survive without opponents, but I don’t want to see that for Nate and Nate doesn’t want to see that for himself.”

“Nate came up out of nowhere at an age where nobody was interested in him and went against the grain the entire way and wound up winning three world titles. In my mind it’s a great story,” Trekas said. “I would liked to have seen it end a little differently. The best part of his career got wasted with his issues with King. It might have been different had he been able to stay active. But it was a success story. He went from being a nobody to being champ of the world. That’s in the record books forever. Nobody can ever take it away.”

Said Campbell, “I would really like to publicly thank Golden Boy for still believing in me after the Ortiz fight. It’s no secret that I’ve had many issues with promoters over the years, but if I had one regret in this sport, it’s that I wasn’t with Golden Boy at the time of the Diaz fight. I think the last three years would have played out significantly different had I been with them the whole time.”

“I’ve got no complaints,” he said. “I came into this sport as a nobody at 28-years-old, ultimately appeared on NBC, ESPN, Showtime, HBO, and PPV, managed to win three world titles in the process, and made a few bucks along the way. Not too shabby for a wise-ass kid from Jacksonville.”

THE LOS ANGELES MATADORS WIN THEIR HOME DEBUT IN A CLEAN SWEEP AGAINST THE MEXICO CITY GUERREROS

LOS ANGELES (Nov. 28, 2010) –The L.A. Matadors, Los Angeles’ representative in the global World Series of Boxing, won all five of their matches in their home-opener on Sunday at Nokia Theatre with a clean sweep over the Mexico City Guerreros.

Two-time Olympian & 2010 National Golden Gloves champ Rau’Shee Warren, of Cincinnati, Ohio, won his WSB debut with a hard-fought, unanimous decision victory over the Guerreros’ Elias Emigdio, of Mexico, scored 49-46 (twice), 48-47.

“I came here to fight and give the fans what they wanted,” Warren said. “It was a close fight and he was tough, but I’m happy to kick off my season with a win at home. It feels good to win one for the team.”

In one of the most exciting fights of the evening, Matadors heavyweight Javier Torres, of Pico Rivera, Calif., scored a brutal TKO at :55 of the fourth round over Alex Rivera, of Palm Springs, Calif.

Torres was deducted a point for a low blow in the third, but the Matador came out swinging in the fourth. The 2009 National Championships Silver Medalist got Rivera against the ropes with a series of combos and ended the bout with a solid right hook that sent Rivera reeling forward into the referee.

“We broke him down little by little, and it was just a matter of time before we got the KO,” Torres said. “My right, it’s deadly. That’s why he stopped the fight. This win does a lot for me. It advanced me and my team. We’re all trying to win this tournament and get to the Olympics.”

In the light heavyweight bout, Matador Vyacheslav Shabranskij, of Ukraine, won a technical decision over Chicago’s Lamar Fenner after an accidental head butt opened a deep gash above Fenner’s left eye that the referee and ringside doctor deemed was too severe to continue. .

WSB rules dictate that any incidental injury that occurs after the first round must go to the judges’ scorecards. Shabranskij was leading on the scorecards (20-18, three times) at the time of the stoppage and was rewarded the technical decision.

In a bloody, all-action bout, Matador middleweight Russell Lamour, of Portland, Maine, won a unanimous decision over Armando Espinosa, of Victorville, Calif., 50-45 (three times). An overhand right by Lamour opened up a gushing cut behind Espinosa’s left ear, but the game and determined Espinosa continued with a solid, yet losing effort.

“I knew that he wasn’t going to give up so I kept trying to outbox him,” Lamour said. “I kept trying to stick and move and knew I could get the decision.”

In an exciting slugfest that featured very little defense, Matador lightweight Everton Lopes, of Brazil, scored a fourth round TKO over Mexico’s Angel Gutierrez in the opening bout of the evening. After an even, action-packed third round, Lopes stepped on the gas with a relentless onslaught of punches to open the fourth. The referee stopped the bout at 1:16 with Gutierrez seemingly defenseless and taking too many damaging punches.

The World Series of Boxing is a groundbreaking, international sports league with teams from three continents competing for five spots – bantamweight, lightweight, middleweight, light heavyweight and heavyweight, in the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

The Matadors will compete against three other North American teams, Miami, Mexico City and Memphis, for the next four months with the winner from the North American division advancing to the semifinals to compete against teams from other continents.

The Matadors will host the Memphis Force on Sunday, Dec. 12 at Club Nokia in their next home match.

Schools have to nurture talent

New Straits Times November 17, 2006 | Harban Singh Harban Singh New Straits Times 11-17-2006 Schools have to nurture talent Byline: Harban Singh Edition: Main/Lifestyle Section: Main Section Type: Letter

I WATCHED the Razak Cup hockey tournament being played in Johor Baru and I was disappointed with the poor standards displayed.

The absence of national players, who are about to participate in the Doha Asian Games, may be the excuse but my judgment is based on the teams that do not have national players.

The fault lies with the previous Malaysian Hockey Federation (MHF) committee, which didn’t develop players. go to web site blocked games at school

Development is a long-term strategy and the results can only be seen in 10 or more years.

We lack this foresight, which requires (similar to the soccer team) leadership, basics and the ability to work with the schools.

Schools have to nurture talent. The MHF should link up with the Education Ministry through the National Sports Council to increase the number of competitive games at school and district levels.

It is a tall order but we have to face reality. There is no short cut to progress.

I believe the present MHF leadership is a blend of passionate and responsible people. The gap between us and the other Asian teams must be identified and addressed. This is where the Asian Games will be a harbinger of our ranking, where I believe we are good only for a fourth place.

In the World Cup in Germany, I noticed the high standards and good performance from every team. here blocked games at school

There was a vast pool of capable reserves in most teams despite having injured players.

On the contrary in Malaysia, we were so dependent on key players that any injury affected our performance.

A development programme is imperative. We also need to look at South Korea’s model and maybe even have a joint yearly test series with them. They are the most successful Asian team in recent times.

New Spinal Muscular Atrophy Study Findings Recently Were Published by C. Abbara and Co-Researchers.(Report)

Clinical Trials Week April 25, 2011 According to recent research from Angers, France, “center dot Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is a neuromuscular disorder of childhood. center dot Riluzole is an anti-excitatory agent recommended for the treatment of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). center dot Riluzole pharmacokinetics are well documented in patients with ALS. WHAT THIS ADDS center dot Riluzole pharmacokinetics have never documented in patients with SMA. center dot This study showed that the administration of 50 mg riluzole once a day to patients with SMA leads to total riluzole daily exposure comparable with that obtained after the administration of 50 mg twice a day in healthy volunteers or ALS patients.” “The objective of the present study was to assess the pharmacokinetics of riluzole in patients with spinal muscular atrophy (SMA). Fourteen patients were enrolled in an open-label, nonrandomized and repeat-dose pharmacokinetic study. All participants were assigned to receive 50 mg riluzole orally for 5 days. Riluzole plasma concentrations were determined from samples obtained at day 5. The pharmacokinetic analysis demonstrated that a dose of 50 mg once a day was sufficient to obtain a daily total exposure [AUC(0,24 h) = 2257 ng ml-1 h] which was comparable with results obtained in adult healthy volunteers or ALS patients in whom a dose of 50 mg twice a day is recommended. The pharmacokinetic simulation demonstrated that the administration of 50 mg twice a day could result in higher concentrations, hence reduced safety margin,” wrote C. The Washington, DC native scored his best victory to date in June, demolishing previously unbeaten Jason Freeman in 76 seconds.

Pacquiao – Margarito does in excess of 1.15 Million PPV Buys

According to Dan Rafael of espn.com. Manny Pacquiao’s twelve round beatdown of Antonio Margarito generated in excess of 1.15 million Pay Per Views that produced $64 million in domestic revenue.

“We’re thrilled with the PPV performance,” said HBO senior vice president Mark Taffet, who runs HBO PPV. “With the breadth of interest from sports, entertainment and news media following Manny and the fight, boxing has tremendous momentum as we finish 2010 and head into a very exciting 2011.”

“This is the third consecutive year that a Manny Pacquiao megafight has exceeded 1 million buys and he has generated 5.1 million buys over his last five fights — true measures of his PPV superstar status,” Taffet said.

“I think the fight with Margarito did very, very well and we are constantly trying to figure out how to better our performances,” Top Rank promoter Bob Arum said. “Considering where we were when we announced the fight, nobody would have believed we would have done this. They said Margarito was disgraced and people talked about boycotting it.

“That’s one of the achievements we can take credit for — taking a non-American and crossing him over,” Arum said. “Can we do more? Yeah. Nobody would have dreamed that you could take a fighter from the Philippines and make him into an iconic American star and we’ve been able to do that. Most of the credit goes to Pacquiao, but we’ve been able to do that and now we have to improve on what we’ve done.

“It’s a work in progress. It’s one thing to do big numbers fighting Oscar De La Hoya, who always did big numbers. It’s another doing them on his own, which he is now apparently able to do. One of the ways to put it into the stratosphere is to make the Mayweather fight, but that is out of my control.

“I hope that is the next fight.

Tarvis Simms Signs With Main Events

Totowa, NJ – Middleweight contender “Marvelous” Tarvis Simms of Norwalk, CT and Main Events have agreed on an exclusive multi-fight promotional agreement.

Simms, a former US National Golden Gloves Champion, has an outstanding 25-1-1 professional record with 12 wins by way of knockout. His lone defeat came when he moved up in weight to challenge hometown favorite Allan Green on eight days notice.

“It’s always been a dream of mine to sign with Main Events,” said Simms, whose pro debut took place on the same card where Arturo Gatti scored a thrilling fifth round stoppage of Gabriel Ruelas. “When I was told there was an opportunity to work with Main Events, I was all for it. It is truly an honor to be a part of their stable.”

“Tarvis is the type of fighter that we are always looking for at Main Events,” promoter Kathy Duva of Main Events said. “He is talented, motivated and willing to do whatever is necessary to earn his shot at the world title. And it doesn’t hurt that he brings a big fan base of his own with him whenever he comes to fight.”

“I think that there is a big opportunity for Tarvis in the middleweight division and soon as he gets a fight or two under his belt we are going to help him capitalize on that. Unlike most of the middleweight contenders, Tarvis is anxious to take on champion Sergio Martinez as soon as possible,” Duva added. “Tarvis is from Connecticut and he has always been a big ticket seller. A fight between Tarvis and Martinez for the middleweight crown would do tremendous business.”

Simms’ next fight is scheduled for December 9 as part of the “Brick City Boxing Series” card featuring Tomasz Adamek vs. Vinny Maddalone in Newark, NJ.

Info: The “Brick City Boxing Series” card will take place at Prudential Center, Newark, NJ, and is promoted by Main Events and Ziggy Promotions in association with Star Boxing.

SCHOOL’S BACK IN SESSION IN ATLANTIC CITY THE PROFESSOR RETURNS DECEMBER 4TH AT BALLY’S–WATCH LIVE ON GFL

CLICK TO ORDER THE FIGHT
On Saturday December 4th, Wildwood, New Jersey’s, Chuck “The Professor” Mussachio (16-1-2, 5KO’s) returns to action in Atlantic City when he takes on Theo Kruger in an eight round light heavyweight contest at the Grand Ballroom in Bally’s. The show, promoted by Star Boxing, is headlined by a battle for the vacant IBA Welterweight Championship, between Atlantic City’s own, Shamone “The Truth” Alvarez (21-2, 12KO’s) and Ghana’s Ayi Bruce (17-3, 12KO’s).

Mussachio, who works as a guidance counselor in New Jersey, attended Lock Haven University, where he was a two-time collegiate national amateur boxing champion in both the 175 and 185 lb weight classes before turning pro in early 2005. No stranger to the bright lights of Atlantic City, the fight on the 4th will mark Mussachio’s 13th appearance there.

Mussachio is coming off an impressive showing in his last fight in June, when he defeated defending and previously undefeated WBF US Light Heavyweight Champion Anthony Ferrante. Mussachio is currently riding a three fight win streak since suffering his first pro defeat, a decision loss against Tommy Karpency for the WBA Fedecentro Light Heavyweight Title in August of last year.

“Chuck has boxed on a few of our shows, and he puts on great fights, and packs the house with fans from all over New Jersey,” stated Joe DeGuardia, CEO and President of Star Boxing. “Chuck reminds me of a 1950’s fighter, with an exciting style and who even has a throwback look. For those who haven’t seen Chuck fight, he usually enters the ring to Frank Sinatra, or music similar to that genre playing, and he wears one of those old-school gangster hats. With all the attention HBO’s new acclaimed series, “Boardwalk Empire” is getting, I felt it was only fitting to have Chuck on the Atlantic City card on December 4th.”

A complete list of undercard will be announced shortly. Tickets are currently on sale and are being priced at $75, and $50 with a few limited 1st Row VIP Packages also available ($150). Tickets can be purchased by visiting any ticketmaster location, or simply by CLICKING HERE:. Tickets may also be purchased by calling Star Boxing at (718)823-2000 or visiting www.starboxing.com. Sergio Diaz, manager of Margarito, said “the doctor told us everything went perfect – no complications of any kind. There is nothing wrong with his right eye.

“Antonio is such a warrior. The first thing he asked was ‘when can I start running’ and we told him he has to relax for awhile,” Diaz said. “For sure, at least 60 days of no contact of any kind in a gym.”

Margarito said “I fought as hard as I could against a great champion in Manny Pacquiao.”

Margarito will stay at Methodist Hospital this evening. He is with his wife Michelle, managers Sergio Diaz, Francisco Espinoza and chief trainer Robert Garcia. Margarito and his team will take a flight to Los Angeles on Wednesday.

SIX QUESTIONS WITH JUSTIN “THE SILVERBACK’’ WILCOX FRIDAY, NOV. 19, IN JACKSON, MISS., LIVE ON SHOWTIME®

JACKSON, MISS. (Nov. 16, 2010) – Feeling like he wasn’t getting the competition he craved, former college wrestler turned competitive bodybuilder Justin “The Silverback” Wilcox decided to give Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) a try five years ago. He’s been hooked ever since.

Now, Wilcox finds himself in the biggest fight of his career, taking on lightweight (155 pounds) star and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt Vitor “Shaolin” Ribeiro in the headlining fight of a STRIKEFORCE Challengers event on Friday, Nov. 19, at Jackson Convention Complex in Jackson, Miss., LIVE on SHOWTIME® at 11 p.m. ET/PT, (delayed on the West Coast).

Wilcox (9-3), a 31-year-old former NCAA wrestling star, has won his last four starts. In his most recent outing on March 26, he registered a unanimous decision over Shamar Bailey at STRIKEFORCE Challengers in Fresno, Calif., the city where his family currently resides.

A member of San Jose, Calif.’s Team AKA, one of the most fearsome fight teams in the world that also plays home to STRIKEFORCE superstars Josh Thomson and Cung Le, Wilcox wrestled for Edinboro University of Pennsylvania and is from Cincinnati, Ohio.

Wilcox answered six questions recently.

QUESTION: What do you think about Vitor Ribeiro? He thought he beat Lyle Beerbohm (he lost a split decision May 15) in his last fight. What did you think?

WILCOX: “I think it could have gone either way. I think he looked good. I know he’s a four-time Jiu-Jitsu world champion and he’s 20-4. I’m not underestimating him in the least. I know people think there won’t be a lot of striking; that we’re both going to want to get it to the ground. Wherever he wants to take it is fine by me. I have faith in my ground game and I’m working with Dave Camarillo at AKA, just an incredible Jiu-Jitsu coach.

QUESTION: What’s it like training at the AKA gym in San Jose?

WILCOX: “It’s been awesome. It’s one of the top gyms in the world. I don’t see myself training anywhere else. Going into my fights I don’t get too nervous because I’m training against such high-level guys and some world champions. The gym is so complete. You don’t have to travel to get high-level boxing or high-level wrestling. It’s all right there. That’s why I love it so much.”

QUESTION: Who’s the toughest guy you ever fought?

WILCOX: “Each opponent has had his strong points. They’ve all been tough. I don’t take any of them lightly. If I had to pick one I would say the (Daisuke) Nakamura fight (which Wilcox won by unanimous decision on Dec. 19, 2009). I had to take the fight on two weeks notice. He was such a high-level opponent.”

QUESTION: In your first professional fight in 2006 you beat Bobby Voelker, another Cincinnati fighter (who scored a major victory over previously undefeated Roger Bowling last Oct. 22 on STRIKEFORCE Challengers on SHOWTIME). Does that seem like a long time ago?

WILCOX: “That was also a tough one. I was just a wrestler back then. Everything he could throw at me he did. People after that fight were like, ‘Wow, wait till you get that chin.’ I don’t know. I just want to keep moving forward. That was my first fight. Bobby’s had some success recently with STRIKEFORCE which is great. We’re kind of on the same path. He’s a great kid. I like Bobby a lot.”

QUESTION: Is there any opponent you’d like to face? Where do you see yourself in the sport in a year?

WILCOX: “I see myself wearing that belt. Each fight is one step closer to that belt. That’s what I see myself going after and being a world champion. Whoever they put in front of me is fine. Whoever has the belt at the time is who I want to fight and who I want to beat.”

QUESTION: What do you like to do in your free time?

WILCOX: “I just really like to hang out with my 3-year-old daughter Natalie and being with my family. I’m up here in San Jose training and they are down in Fresno so I go down on weekends and see them a lot. Just being with my little girl and my wife Leslie is what makes me happy. Just hanging out and spending time with the family.”

The Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fight card presented by Rockstar Energy Drink will mark STRIKEFORCE’s initial foray into the state of Mississippi.

Tickets are on sale now to the general public at all Ticketmaster outlets, including the Coliseum box office and Be-Bop Record Shops, by phone at 800-745-3000 and online at Ticketmaster.com and STRIKEFORCE.COM.

Doors at Jackson Convention Complex will open at 6:45 p.m. CT. The first non-televised preliminary bout will begin at 7:30 p.m. The first televised main card fight will begin at 10 p.m.

About STRIKEFORCE
STRIKEFORCE (www.strikeforce.com) is a world-class mixed martial arts cage fight promotion which, on Friday, March 10, 2006, made history with its “Shamrock vs. Gracie” event, the first sanctioned mixed martial arts fight card in California state history. The star-studded extravaganza, which pitted legendary champion Frank Shamrock against Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt Cesar Gracie at San Jose’s HP Pavilion, played host to a sold-out, record crowd of 18,265. Since 1995, STRIKEFORCE, sanctioned by ISKA, has been the exclusive provider of martial arts programming for ESPN and, after 12 years of success as a leading, world championship kickboxing promotion, the company unveiled its mixed martial arts (MMA) series with “Shamrock vs. Gracie.” In May 2008, West Coast Productions, the parent company of STRIKEFORCE, partnered with Silicon Valley Sports & Entertainment (SVS&E), an entity created in 2000 to oversee all business operation aspects of the San Jose Sharks and HP Pavilion at San Jose. In March 2009, STRIKEFORCE signed a multi-year agreement with SHOWTIME® to stage live events on the premium cable television network. The promotion has since also produced two live, primetime events on the CBS Television Network.

Mayweather in alleged incident with security guard

According to tmz.com, Floyd Mayweather had an alleged run-in with a member of his own security detail

Law enforcement sources told tmz.com a private security guard who was patrolling inside Floyd’s gated community drove up to Floyd’s house a few hours ago to confront the boxer about a parking situation.

We’re told the security guard rolled down his window to talk to Floyd … and that’s when Floyd allegedly unleashed his finger — striking the guard in the face.

Cops were called to the scene and knocked on Floyd’s door — but we’re told the boxer refused to open up.

We’re told since Floyd was only suspected of a misdemeanor battery — and because the alleged incident didn’t take place in front of a police officer — cops merely took a report and did not make an arrest.

Law enforcement sources tell us cops plan to turn the case over to the D.A., who will decide whether or not to press charges.
