The Olympic bronze medallist (7-0-1) is being trained by Sean Casey for his

OJaffa¹s¹ promoter said: ³The split is no reflection on the job Bobby has
done with Tony since they teamed-up.

³I rate Bobby highly and I hope to continue our good working relationship.

³He already trains British light-middleweight title contender, Brian Rose
who I co-promote, and hopefully there will be other fighters with can work
together with.

³Everyone involved with Tony¹s career would like to thank Bobby for all the
sacrifices he has made for Tony.²

Maloney indicated that Jeffries¹s long-term future could lay with an
American trainer.

He added: ³When Tony was in America on holiday I arranged for him to meet
with some well known trainers I have personal knowledge of.

³He enjoyed meeting them, but I have to emphasise no decision has been taken
yet. It will be made immediately after the next contest.

³I am sure Sean will make sure that Tony is well prepared for next week¹s
test.²

Jeffries¹s opponent will be named in the next 48 hours.

LINDSAY¹S GOT TWO FIGHTS ON HIS MIND–WATCH FIGHT LIVE ON GFL

MARTIN LINDSAY has his eye on two fights in the next few days, but will only
be landing his bombs in one of them.

The British featherweight champion (16-0) faces Kenyan southpaw David Kiilu
(33-10-2) in a non-title eight rounder at Rainton Meadows Arena,
Houghton-le-Spring on Saturday 11th September.

He also has one eye on this Saturday¹s Commonwealth championship clash
between John Simpson and Stephen Smith where the winner will become his
mandatory challenger.

Lindsay, 28, said: ³Simpson v Smith is a very hard fight to call, but I
couldn¹t care less which one I defend my British title against.

³I just hope there is someone who has the bottle to share a ring with me for
my British crown.

³Kiilu looks a good opponent and has more experience than anybody I have
ever faced and even won a title at lightweight.²

Promoter Frank Maloney added: ³It is such a headache getting Martin matched
up because nobody wants to face him.

³Ideally, I would have liked next week¹s bout to be a British title defence
but nobody wanted to know, although I am sure Simpson or Smith will be
keen.²

Lindsay won the British title when he last boxed in March with a convincing
points win over Jamie Arthur.

The Houghton-le-Spring bill is topped by Jason Booth (35-5) who challenges

Tarver to take on Aguilera for Heavyweight debut

According to Dan Rafael of espn.com, former Light Heavyweight champion Antonio Tarver will make his first appearance as a Heavyweight when he takes on Nagy Aguilera on October 15th in either Memphis or California in a bout that will be broadcasted on Showtime.

“I won’t be the biggest heavyweight. I won’t be the strongest guy, but I think I’ll be the quickest and most elusive and the best counter puncher the heavyweight division has seen in a long time,” Tarver said. “I want to see if I can hit these big boys and put a dent in them. It remains to be seen, but if I can put a dent in these big boys, I’ll be the next heavyweight champion.

“I think I have so much more to give to the game. People are dying for a guy in the heavyweight division who has a face and a name and has some credibility. That’s what I bring to the table. You look at the American landscape and we don’t have anything out there. So I will give it a try until they beat me. I look at it like I am undefeated at heavyweight. And I am not fighting a dead man. Aguilera is a credible guy and I will see where I stand right off the bat.”

The bout is slated to headline a special edition of Showtime’s “ShoBox: The New Generation” series. Tarver (27-6, 19 KOs) has been working as a ringside commentator on the series.

“Maybe I’ll fight and commentate at the same time and pick up two checks,” Tarver joked.

“I think I stayed too long in that division,” said Tarver, who is best known for defeating Roy Jones Jr. in two of their three fights, including a shocking second-round knockout in their 2004 rematch. “I outgrew that division a long time ago. I was 28 coming out of the amateurs. I fought at 178 and, as a pro, I had to lose three more pounds. It was tough. I did it for a long time and I don’t have any regrets. But my last performances show I wasn’t as strong as I was in the past, and Dawson was 14 years younger than me. That had a lot to do with it. I wasn’t able to be as strong as I should have been in a fight.”

“I feel good right now. My goal is to be very strong and solid at the weight,” said Tarver, whose promotional company AT Entertainment will promote the bout. “I’ll look better with the weight on me. I won’t look frail and drawn and skinny.”

“Aguilera is a bona fide heavyweight and did real well going the distance against Maurice Harris,” Tarver said. “We’ll see if we can best that and step up to the plate with the big boys. This is a great opportunity for him to fight a name guy after just losing a competitive fight. I’m not picking no dead man to fight. Aguilera can hit, so I’m testing myself. I’ll have to get used to the big guys punching me — if they can land one. I am looking to fight those big guys and prove I am worthy of the heavyweight championship.”

Gonzalez wants Calderon, Segura winner.

This Saturdays pay per view clash between Ivan Calderon 34 (KO 6) -0-1 and Giovanni Segura 24 (KO 20) -1-0 for the unification of the WBO and WBA 108lb belt is of special significance to WBA 105 lb champion Roman Chocolatito Gonzalez 25 (KO 21) -0.

In recent months Gonzalez has been very vocal in his desire to fight Calderon after a verbal altercation in Managua earlier this year.

“Although I would love to shut Calderons mouth; it really doesn’t matter who wins. They are fighting for a WBA title so there is no way the winner can avoid me now without vacating the title”.
Gonzalez is making a long overdue return to the ring in the 108lb division next Friday against Mexican Jesus Limones 16(9)-1-1 in Managua.

Gonzalez has not fought since the January 30th demolishing of Ivan Chicken Meneses in Mexico in four rounds.

The fight is a non title 10 round tune up for the 4th defense of his 105lb crown in Japan later this year.
“The issues that have kept me out of the ring are a thing of the past”. Gonzalez says “I am ready to take my career to the next level and Segura and Calderon are in my way”.

Hasson, 26, of the Kensington section of Philadelphia, is 10-0, 3 K0s, since turning pro in 2008. In his last fight July 30 at the South Philly Arena, Hasson ended an eight-month layoff by scoring a six-round decision over Alberto Mercedes, of Milwaukee, WI.

As an amateur, Hasson compiled a 94-16 record and earned a silver medal in the 2006 US National Amateur Championships.

Boxing runs in Hasson’s blood. Hall-of-Fame light-heavyweight champion Tommy Loughran, also of Philadelphia, was his maternal grand uncle. In addition, Hasson was born on Tusculum Street, where Rocky Balboa lived in the movie.

Speller, 32, of West Philadelphia, is a tough customer who just came off a hard eight-round points loss to unbeaten Dion Savage on May 1 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Kaufman to Defend STRIKEFORCE Women’s Belt Against Coenen

Live on SHOWTIME® at 10 p.m. ET/PT; Ticket Pre-Sale Begins Today

SAN JOSE, Calif. (Aug. 25, 2010) – A grudge rematch that fans, media, and the confident fighters themselves have been clamoring for since the first fight ended in bloody controversy nearly three years ago, will take place on Saturday, October 9, when KJ Noons (9-1), fresh off a knockout victory last Saturday, challenges STRIKEFORCE World Welterweight (170 pounds) Champion Nick Diaz (22-7, 1 NC) in the main event at HP Pavilion here, live on SHOWTIME® (10 p.m. ET/PT, delayed on the West Coast).

In the co-feature, undefeated STRIKEFORCE Women’s Welterweight World Champion Sarah Kaufman (12-0) will make the second defense of her 135-pound title against No. 1 contender and Dutch superstar Marloes Coenen (17-4).

Another featured fight will pit an emerging star from the STRIKEFORCE Challengers series, up-and-coming Luke Rockhold (7-1), against the vastly more experienced, 2000 Olympic Games wrestling silver medalist, Matt “The Law” Lindland (22-7), in a middleweight (185 pounds) contest.

Tickets go on sale to the general public this Saturday, Aug. 28, at 10 a.m. PT online at Ticketmaster.com , at HP Pavilion ticket office, or by phone at (800) 745-3000.

Diaz has not lost a fight since he first faced Noons, losing via disputed first-round TKO on Nov. 7, 2007. Diaz has been devastating in recent outings notching seven in a row. The talented, outspoken, no-nonsense brawler also boasts a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt.

The always-dangerous Noons is an aggressive and prolific striker who has won his last six fights, including the thrilling slugfest against Diaz that ended when the cageside physician halted the proceedings due to excessive cuts around Diaz’ eyes.

Since that fight, there has been no love lost between the pair of brash fighters. Seven months after their first fight, on June 14, 2008, the fighters and their camp members nearly came to blows in the cage after the fighters registered victories in separate bouts.

“Nick has no class, he’s a bum, a piece of (expletive) and he and his team disrespected my family and I with their gestures and trash talk and tried to upstage my fight,” said Noons after the near-fracas.

Offered Diaz: “I’m sorry about what happened in the cage afterward, but I didn’t start it. His guys were talking (expletive) to us.”

Diaz is coming off a first-round submission (armbar) over fellow superstar Hayato “Mach” Sakurai last May 29 at DREAM 14 in Japan. The six-foot, 27-year-old Diaz won the STRIKEFORCE title with a convincing first-round TKO (punches) over Marius “The Whitemare” Zaromskis on Jan. 30, 2010.

The 5-foot-11, 27-year-old Noons, who was born and raised in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, registered a spectacular, crowd-pleasing second-round knockout over Jorge Gurgel during last Saturday’s STRIKEFORCE: Houston, live on SHOWTIME.

Kaufman, a former ballet dancer, retained her belt for the first time with an explosive third-round body slam KO over Roxanne Modafferi at STRIKEFORCE Challengers in Everett, Wash., on July 23.

The personable, hard-hitting, 5-foot-5, 24-year-old Kaufman, of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, has scored knockouts in nine of her 12 victories.

Coenen, 29, will appear before an audience for the first time since suffering a hard-fought third-round TKO loss to Cris Cyborg for the STRIKEFORCE Women’s Middleweight (145 pounds) Championship at STRIKEFORCE: Miami last Jan. 30.

The game and courageous, 5-foot-9 Coenen gave Cyborg one of her toughest fights. A member of Holland’s Team Golden Glory, Coenen has been a mixed martial artist since the age of 14. She will be moving down in weight to challenge for the title.

Rockhold of Santa Cruz, Calif. will bring a six-fight winning streak into what figures to be the toughest assignment of his career. Many feel the 25-year-old is one of STRIKEFORCE’s next great middleweight stars. He has been victorious by submission in all but one of his wins. A member of Team AKA in San Jose, Rockhold won his last start with a first-round TKO (knees to body) over Paul Bradley on Feb. 26, in San Jose.

Lindland of Oregon City, Ore, brought home the silver in Greco-Roman wrestling. He’s fought the best in a 13-year MMAs career, including the famed Fedor Emelianenko. An All-American at the University of Nebraska before turning pro in 1997, Lindland holds victories over Pat Miletich , Jeremy Horn, former UFC welterweight champion Carlos Newton and remains one of only two men to submit Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt Travis Lutter .

In his most recent fight, the six-foot-tall Lindland scored a third-round TKO over “King” Kevin Casey on May 21 during a STRIKEFORCE Challengers in Portland, Ore.

Since 1995, STRIKEFORCE, sanctioned by ISKA, has been the exclusive provider of martial arts programming for ESPN and, after 12 years of success as a leading, world championship kickboxing promotion, the company unveiled its mixed martial arts (MMA) series with “Shamrock vs. Gracie.” In May 2008, West Coast Productions, the parent company of STRIKEFORCE, partnered with Silicon Valley Sports & Entertainment (SVS&E), an entity created in 2000 to oversee all business operation aspects of the San Jose Sharks and HP Pavilion at San Jose. Kessler’s eye injury forces him out of Super Six

COPENHAGEN, Denmark (Aug. 25, 2010) – Team Sauerland regrets to inform the boxing world
that WBC Super Middleweight Champion Mikkel Kessler has been forced to pull out of the Super
Six World Boxing Classic due to an eye injury. His title defence against Allan Green in Herning,
Denmark on September 25 has been cancelled.

“This is the most disappointing moment of my boxing career,” Kessler said. “After defeating Carl
Froch, I was on the way to win the tournament, so pulling out now really hurts. The eye problem has
bothered me since the beginning of the Super Six in my preparation for the bout against Andre
Ward. It also bothered me in the fights against Ward and Froch, and in my training for the fight
against Green it has become unbearable. I have consulted leading experts in Denmark and
Germany and they have advised me to take a break from boxing so that the problem can heal. I
have been assured that it will heal completely and that I will be back in the ring next year. As a fair
sportsman, I do not want to delay the Super Six, which is still the best thing that has happened to
boxing for a long time. I wish my fellow contestants the best of luck – may the best man win. I will be
there to fight the winner in 2011.”

SHOWTIME Sports Executive Vice President Ken Hershman expresses his disappointment for
Kessler but assures the boxing fans around the world that the tournament will go on.

“I commend Mikkel Kessler for his decision,” said Hershman. “He has made a wise choice in light of
his doctors’ recommendations and he is showing tremendous respect for his fellow competitors and
for the tournament format itself.

“We will publicly address how this turn of events affects the tournament in the coming days. I
assure you we will make the best of this scenario. In fact, I have been aware of Mikkel’s situation for
a few days and I have a vision for how we can proceed that will enhance the excitement of the
tournament. First, I must have some internal discussions but mark my words, the drama of the
Super Six will be unrelenting and we will crown a champion in the early part of 2011.”

Promoter Kalle Sauerland said Kessler did “absolutely the right thing.” He stated: “You can recover
from losing in the ring but you cannot recover from losing your health. There is nothing that is of
bigger importance than the boxer´s health. As much as we regret to see Mikkel pulling out, he was
left with no other choice. He should take all the time in the world to recover. He can take comfort in
the fact that he looked reborn in his last bout. Once he is recovered, he will continue where he left
off. The Viking Warrior will be back.”

Added Team Sauerland General Manager Chris Meyer. “We are saddened to see Mikkel pulling out
but his health is more important than anything he could win inside the ring. The WBC will probably
make him “champion emeritus” so that he can fight against the reigning champion once he is ready
to come back.”

Highly-reputed eye specialist Professor Dr. med Gerhard Lang, who is the Director of the Eye
Hospital at Universitätsklinikum Ulm and also served as the 2010 World Ophthalmology Congress
President, examined Kessler and believes a proper rest is all the “Viking Warrior” needs. “Mikkel
said he has been bothered by problems with his vision during the fights against Ward and Froch as
well as in the training in the build-up to these fights. There is a weakness of the superior oblique
muscle of his left eye. To continue boxing, the muscle needs a proper rest, meaning no fighting or
sparring for nine months. After this break, a complete recovery is expected.”

The 27-year-old Diaz (22-7), a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt and native of Stockton, Calif., has won seven consecutive fights since his last loss in 2007. He is coming off a first round submission victory (armbar) over fellow superstar Hayato “Mach” Sakurai on May 29 at DREAM 14 in Japan. Prior to that, Diaz won the STRIKEFORCE title with a late, third-round TKO (punches) over Marius “The Whitemare” Žaromskis at STRIKEFORCE: Miami last Jan. 30.

The undefeated Kaufman (12-0), a former ballet dancer who hails from British Columbia, Canada, is fresh off the first defense of her title, an explosive third-round body slam KO over Roxanne Modafferi at STRIKEFORCE Challengers in Everett, Wash., on July 23. The 24-year-old Kaufman, who has won nine of her fights by KO, will face Coenen (17-4), a submission specialist and the No. 1 contender to the STRIKEFORCE Women’s Welterweight belt.

The 29-year-old Coenen (17-4) will fight for the first time since a third-round TKO loss to Cris Cyborg for the STRIKEFORCE Women’s Middleweight (145 pounds) Championship at STRIKEFORCE: Miami. Coenen, a member of Holland’s Team Golden Glory and mixed martial artist since the age of 14, will be moving down in weight to challenge at 135 pounds. Kaufman and Coenen have both defeated Modafferi, with Coenen avenging a 2007 loss via first round armbar in her STRIKEFORCE debut on Nov. 7, 2009.

Rockhold (7-1), who could prove to be one of STRIKEFORCE’s next great middleweight superstars, has won six of his seven fights via submission. The 25-year-old member of Team AKA is coming off a first-round TKO (knees to body) over Paul Bradley last Feb. 26 at a STRIKEFORCE Challengers event in San Jose. The impressive win was the first KO victory of the Santa Cruz, Calif., native’s professional career. Prior to that conquest, Rockhold had won five straight fights by way of submission.

Lindland (22-7), who won the silver medal in Olympic Greco Roman Wrestling at the 2000 Olympic Games, scored a third-round TKO victory over “King” Kevin Casey on May 21 at STRIKEFORCE Challengers in his hometown of Portland, Ore. A former UFC star who has been competing professionally in MMA since 1997, Lindland, 40, is also a former All-American wrestler for University of Nebraska and the 1993 NCAA Big Eight conference champion. During his stellar career, Lindland has triumphed over a number of all-time greats including former UFC champions Pat Miletich and Carlos Newton.

“Macys.com is another great example of how a local company can take advantage of the City’s local economic development programs to grow its operations and recruit talented, local job candidates in these challenging times,” said Mayor Newsom.

Additionally, Mayor Newsom announced that Macy’s.com will be the first employer to utilize HireSF.org to publicize their JOBS NOW! SF positions. HireSF.org is a new initiative of the Workforce Development Division of the Office of Economic and Workforce Development (OEWD), to help San Francisco businesses find the most qualified local job seekers to fill their open positions. The site has been designed as a “Virtual One Stop” job matching system, so that employers can easily recruit from among the 46,900 San Francisco residents who are looking for work. web site macys printable coupons

HireSF.org directly connects employers to JOBS NOW! SF -certified candidates, as well as to job seekers graduating from the City’s many job training programs. All San Francisco residents can register and create resumes searchable by employers by going to www.hiresf.org. By using HireSF.org, employers who agree to offer “on the job training” (OJT) to eligible job seekers hired through the One-Stop Career Center system can also access up to $3,000 in salary reimbursement. These “OJT” hires will qualify a business located in San Francisco’s Enterprise Zone for more than $37,000 in tax credits over 5 years. web site macys printable coupons

Employers who want to access job candidates and both the JOBS NOW! SF and OJT stimulus programs should register at www.hiresf.org. They will be contacted directly by a Business Services Representative who can answer all their questions.

The JOBS NOW! SF program is set to expire on September 30 of this year. However, President Obama is supporting an extension of the program for one year, to September 30, 2011 as part of his proposed Fiscal Year 2011 budget. Next week, the House of Representatives will take up a bill that could include an extension for one year of the funds used for JOBS NOW! SF.

“I thank the leadership of Congressman Jim McDermott, as well as our own Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Congresswoman Judy Chu, for supporting a federal stimulus program that’s working exactly as it was intended — putting thousands of people back to work in private, public and nonprofit sector jobs now,” said Mayor Newsom.

Margarito applies for Texas License

Dan Rafael of espn.com is reporting that disgraced former welterweight champion Antonio Margarito applied for a boxing license in Texas just after he was denied a license in California.

“We have received a faxed application on behalf of Margarito,” Said Susan Stanford who is the public information officer for the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. “But a faxed application is an incomplete application.”

Apparently Maragrito did not include the $20 fee for the application.

“We understand there is a hard-copy application with a check in the mail,” she said.

Margarito needs a license in Texas so Top Rank promoter Bob Arum can move forward with his plans for Margarito to face Manny Pacquiao for a vacant junior middleweight title on Nov. 13 on HBO PPV at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, site of Pacquiao’s dominant decision against Joshua Clottey on March 13.

The ABC issued a memo on Thursday reiterating to state commissions that Margarito had fulfilled his obligations.

“At this time Mr. Margarito has fulfilled his obligations per the ABC [which was to appear before the CSAC before applying for licensure to another state/tribal commission in the United States] and thus he is now free to pursue licensure with any ABC member commission,” the ABC’s statement read. “There is nothing under the federal law that would prohibit consideration for licensure. The ABC would hope that each ABC member commission would examine the facts that have been laid out by the CSAC and weigh those facts in determining if Mr. Margarito should indeed be licensed to compete in their jurisdiction.”

Stanford said once Margarito’s $20 check arrives, his application will be considered like any other fighter’s.

“We have licensing specialists that review it and all state laws and rules are considered,” she said. “If it meets the laws and rules, the license will be granted. But every application is taken on a case by case basis, and Margarito’s will be no different.”

“We don’t require a hearing,” she said. “We either grant it or deny. If it’s denied, the applicant has a right to a hearing if he asks for it.”

She said once full application requirements are with her department, the application would be ruled on “within 10 days.”

UNDEFEATED CRUISERWEIGHT CONTENDER BJ FLORES NOW A PROMOTIONAL FREE AGENT

LAS VEGAS (August 20, 2010)—Undefeated and world ranked cruiserweight BJ Flores is now a promotional free agent after his contract with Florida based company Square Ring Inc. has run out.

Flores of Las Vegas has been off for over a year and has a record of 24-0-1 with fifteen knockouts has not fought since scoring a fourth round stoppage over Epifanio Mendoza on August 15, 2009 in Biloxi, Mississippi.

Flores now will look forward to a new beginning and remains firmly on track to winning the cruiserweight championship of the world.

“I am looking forward to dealing directly with the promoters of all the champions and top contenders. It will be a lot easier to make deals directly”, said Flores.

“Just because I have not had a fight in a year, it doesn’t mean I haven’t been busy. I have been in cam with John Ruiz, David Haye and Chad Dawson and that has kept me beyond sharp. I am chomping at the bit to get one of the champions.”

“This last year has given me a chance to focus on power and strength. Becoming more explosive and powerful is necessary to become a world champion today. People will be surprised in my next fight.”

“I want to thank my manager Jerry Guliani for all the calls and emails he has put out over the past few days. I have no doubt he will secure a big fight for me very quickly.”

Flores has been training under the watchful eye of Jacob Chavez and strength and condition coach Ray Franklin.

“We are all excited about having an opportunity to put feelers out ourselves for the next opportunity”, said Chavez.

“BJ has been training really hard and he is in great shape. He is prepared to fight anybody and we want all of the champs and legitimate undefeated contenders. We know he is the best cruiserweight in the world.”

“This is a new phase in BJ’s career. He is way stronger and more powerful than ever before and we want him in the ring immediately. We have put any problems in the past behind us and this is a new chapter for us. BJ has not taken any breaks and works out every day like he has a giant chip on his shoulder. He is on a mission right now and his next opponent will be in for a rude awakening”, said Chavez

Franklin agrees and keeps fans up to speed on how Flores is progressing.

“He has a new found level of power and when you mix in the speed and ferocity, BJ is looking like what a world champion should look like.” said Franklin.

“We are looking forward to getting it on with anybody. All we need is just a reasonable time frame and not only will BJ win but he will do so in stunning fashion. He impresses everybody more and more everyday”

NEARLY A DECADE IN THE MAKING: THE RETURN OF AMIR “HARDCORE” MANSOUR ON FRIDAY AUGUST 27TH AT DOVER DOWNS IN DOVER, DELAWARE

WILMINGTON, DELAWARE (August 16, 2010)—On Friday night August 27th, a big night of boxing is planned at the beautiful Dover Downs in Dover, Delaware and the night will be a long time coming for one fighter in particular.

It was in 1997 a young Heavyweight named Amir Mansour turned pro with a first round knockout over Clifton Graham in Allentown, PA. Mansour showed tremendous speed to go along with power that catapulted him to nine straight wins with five of those victories coming by knockout.

In was that ninth fight where it became apparent that Mansour was not just a flash in the pan as he stopped thirty-four fight veteran Fabian Garcia in one round in Atlantic City.

That fight took place on June 1st, 2001.

Fast forward to the night of August 27, 2010. Instead of being a multi-time world champion, Mansour will carry that same record of 9-0 with five knockouts into his six round fight with Samuel Brown.

It has been more than nine years (111 months) since this upstart has set foot in a professional boxing ring.

Mansour was incarcerated for over eight years and is now looking capture the Heavyweight championship of the world.

“I have done a lot of thinking of the last eight years”, said Mansour

“When I was away I was locked with former pro fighter Calvin Davis and that kept me focused on boxing and this night has been a long time coming”

“What people don’t realize I don’t have any wear and tear on my body and I have not been taking any punches. When people see me, they will see how I kept in shape and they will be amazed at my speed.”

“I have had some of the best sparring possible as I have worked with IBF Cruiserweight champion Steve Cunningham and Chazz Witherspoon so I have worked with the best. Working with those guys, in a way kinda makes up for lost time. And when I spar against them it gives me a good idea where I am at and I feel I am not that far away.”

“August 27th has been a long time coming for me. There have been many nights where all I could do is stay up and visualize my next fight and for it to be just a week away really has my focus like I have never had it before.”

ADAMEK vs. GRANT

“The Big Challenge”

Fight: Aug 21st
Prudential Center, Newark

Press Conference Quotes

Michael Grant: “I’m blessed to have the opportunity to fight Tomasz and my man Roger over there. No doubt it’s going to be a nice night for the fight community, for the boxing world period. The heavyweight division is sad right now, so I just say, don’t lose hope. Don’t lose hope, because I know the belts are over the water right now, but they’ll be back. They will definitely be back!”

“How do I see the fight playing out? Okay let’s play with this…He’s (Adamek) probably going to try to figure out the punching power for the first 3 or 4 rounds and then make a decision; ‘Okay do I want to gamble or not’. Meanwhile, while he’s thinking about gambling I’m already gonna be putting power out, dropping hands on him. So then you’re into a ‘what should I do?’ moment. You got to make sure that those decisions don’t make you delayed so bad where you start getting caught. And sometimes when you start getting caught, and getting caught, it messes all the decision making up and that can be very hurtful.”

“I don’t take anything away from Adamek, like I said he’s a helluva light heavyweight champion. But I’m an elite fighter. I’m not like a Jason Estrada or a Chris Arreola, that’s not my level.”

Grant speaking of Golota style vs. Adamek style: “In those two different styles Golota was a puncher and slightly a boxer, where Adamek is more like a boxer. You know what I’m saying, he’s not a puncher. I’m not saying the fight’s going to be easy with that. He has the strength in that. He became light heavyweight and cruiserweight champion, correct? And so God bless him.”

“My ability is basically what it (the deciding factor) is. I’m not banking on size and strength.”

Roger Bloodworth: “You can tell its going to be a good fight. We have all the respect in the world for the Grant camp and we took this fight cause Tomasz had to be able to prove he could hang with a big man. So whoever named this ‘The Big Challenge’ may be exactly correct.” “Tomasz is ready and I expect a great fight.”

“We haven’t thought about what’s next. We’re just thinking about this fight and that’s it.”

Tomasz Adamek: “Sunday we’ll talk about what’s next, but Saturday we have a job.”

“Every fight is very important. Only when you win, you go up. In boxing you can never be second. My whole career I prepare to be the best.”

“I am very excited to be back at Prudential Center. Every fight a couple thousand more people come to see me. Everybody knows me in NJ.”

“I’m ready to fight. When I’m healthy I am very quick, I am dangerous in the ring. I’ve been training very hard for 11 weeks. Size is no bother to me. I had 2 very good sparring partners. They were tall too. Roger is a very good teacher and I am learning everyday. I am ready.”

ATLANTIC CITY’S FINEST BOXERS TO SEE ACTION ON AUGUST 28TH AT THE TAJ MAHAL IN A.C.–WATCH LIVE ON GFL

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ (August 17, 2010)—Some of the best local talent will be on display on Saturday night, August 28th at the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City as six undefeated prospects will round out a packed card presented by Spartan Fight Promotions

The main event will feature top American Heavyweight Chazz Witherspoon battling Livin Castillo in a bout scheduled for ten rounds.

Fighting out of the GNP Gym in Atlantic City, undefeated fighters, Qa’id Muhammad (Super Flyweight), Joel De La Paz (Super Middleweight), Lavarn Harvell (Light Heavyweight) and Eugene Soto (Middleweight) will all be featured in big fights on the 28th.

Muhammad is just twenty-one years old and his style has been described as electric as he has incredibly fast hands and has produced five straight wins and all by way of knockout. This will mark the fifth consecutive appearance for Muhammad on the Boardwalk and he has appeared on some big cards.

On October 18th, 2008 he took out Samuel Gutierrez in three rounds on the Bernard Hopkins – Kelly Pavlik undercard. In his last bout, Muhammad scored a third round stoppage over Alfredo Berto on July 31, 2009 in Atlantic City.

De La Paz is twenty five years old and has developed into a big power puncher as he has won his last four bouts by way of first round stoppage.

This will be De La Paz third fight in Atlantic City and is coming off a first round stoppage over Randy Campbell on July 2nd in Vineland, New Jersey.

Harvell has a record of 5-0 with two knockouts and has the name of “Baby Bowe” due to the striking facial resemblance of former Heavyweight champion of the world Riddick Bowe.

After winning by decision on his first three bouts, Harvell has developed power as he has scored two tremendous knockouts in his last two bouts.

In his last bout, Harvell stopped then undefeated Randy Campbell in one round on February 26th in Philadelphia. This will be fifth fight in Atlantic City for the twenty-two year old Harvell.

Soto is 2-0 with one knockout. He turned pro on April 11, 2009 with a four round unanimous decision over Vernon Richardson at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. He followed that up with a first round knockout over Tony Dewey on November 20th at The Taj Mahal.

“I look at these guys as a family”, said Abdur Rahim Muhammad, who is not only the manager and trainer of these four fighters but also the father of Qa’Id Muhammad.

“Each of them possesses different styles. A couple of them are aggressive and a couple of them prefer to box, but they all have adapted to one style and we call it power boxing.”

“These kids gain more confidence in each fight. We always knew Harvell could punch but he preferred to box in his first few fights and is showing the power in his last two bouts. De La Paz is just the opposite. Here is a kid who has tremendous boxing ability but has become a great knockout artist. With Soto, he is a counter puncher by trade and now he is mixing in his punching ability. Finally Qa’Id is someone who has a lot of ability but he learns by watching everyone else and they give him a constant reminder.”

“A big part of our team is Con McMullen who is the assistant trainer. He was a former pro fighter so he brings that experience to the table with the guys and has been a huge asset to the team.”

Muhammad, Soto, De La Paz and Soto will have their opponent’s announced shortly.

Two more undefeated fighters will also see action in four round bouts as Ismael Garcia (1-0) of Millville, New Jersey will take on Stanley Harvey (0-1) of Norfolk, Va. in four round Jr. Middleweight bout.

The son of the former Heavyweight champion, Bruce Seldon, Isiah Seldon (1-0) will battle Jason Johns (0-2) of Danville, Va.

In the eight round co-feature, undefeated Farah Ennis (15-0, 9 KO’s) will now take on Anthony Shuler (20-7-1, 14 KO’s) of Indianapolis, IN.

In a six round Lightweight bout, Jose Reyes (23-7, 8 KO’s) of nearby Vineland, NJ will take on an opponent to be named.

Ticket Prices for this great night of boxing are priced at $90 / $65 / $40 and are Available at the Trump Taj Mahal Box Office or by calling Ticketmaster 1-800-736-1420 or GNP Fitness 609-348-4999 VIP Tables are also available, for more information call 609-348-4999

Vitali Klitschko to defend Heavyweight crown against Shannon Briggs

Dan Rafael of espn.com is reporting that WBC Heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko will defend his belt against former WBO champion Shannon Briggs on October 16th in Hamburg, Germany.

“Contracts are signed, everything is done,” Said Bernd Boente, who manages Klitschko adding that there will be news conferences to make the formal announcement in Klitschko’s native Kiev, Ukraine, on Aug. 30 and another in Hamburg, his adopted hometown, on Aug. 31.

“I am very happy that I am finally fighting in Hamburg again. I started in Hamburg as a pro [in 1996],” said Klitschko, who hasn’t fought there since a 1999 knockout of Obed Sullivan. “The O2 World is a fantastic arena and the fans in Hamburg know their boxing, and a great atmosphere is guaranteed.”

“Shannon Briggs is an unbelievable trash-talker, but he is definitely a very strong challenger,” Klitschko said. “He has huge experience, has way more professional fights than I have and is one of the hardest punchers in the heavyweight division. I know I will have to prepare myself with my coach [Fritz Sdunek] very intensely.”

Said Boente: “It’s a very interesting matchup. Vitali has to be prepared very well because Briggs is very dangerous for the first six or seven rounds and you can’t underestimate the guy. Vitali knows this not a walkover. You know Briggs. He can show up as a really good fighter and perform on world-class level, or he can show up like he did in the [Sultan] Ibragimov fight and just walk around the ring.”

“I tried for a long time to get into the ring with one of the Klitschkos. Now it’s time to write history,” Briggs said. “Most of their opponents [expletive] in their pants before they enter the ring. But I will put a lot of pressure on Klitschko. Klitschko can look at his WBC belt for a couple of more weeks. After Oct. 16, it belongs to me.

“I have been in touch with [ESPN programmer] Doug Loughrey and hopefully we can work something again for Vitali’s fight,” Boente said.

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ (August 11, 2010)—On Saturday night August 28th at the beautiful Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, Spartan Fight Promotions presents BATTLE #I with a terrific main event as top American heavyweight, Chazz “The Gentleman” Witherspoon will take on Livin Castillo in a ten round bout.

In the exciting co-feature, undefeated Super Middleweight Farah Ennis will battle heavy handed David Thomas

Ennis of Philadelphia has a record of 15-0 with nine knockouts and is quickly becoming a force in the loaded Super Middleweight division.

He has been one of the most active fighters around as this will be his fifth fight in 2010 and he has stepped the competition with each bout. His previous four bouts have produced knockout victories for Ennis.

The twenty-seven year old has a very diverse style as he has won fights by displaying his terrific boxing ability while in other bouts he has shown awesome knockout power like the aforementioned bouts

In those bouts, Ennis has stopped Emanuel Gonzalez (9-6) in three rounds, Frankie Santos (17-8-4) in two rounds, Steve Walker (24-24) in one round and in his most recent outing, Ennis stopped grizzled veteran Demetrius Davis (20-23-5) in three rounds on July 30th in Philadelphia.

The twenty-seven year old Ennis turned pro in February of 2006 by scoring a second round stoppage over Sylvester Golding in Philadelphia.

He has fought up and down the east coast by fighting in Pennsylvania, Maryland and Tennessee and this will be his first fight in New Jersey.

He is the brother of currant USBA Jr. Middleweight champion, Derek “Pooh” Ennis.

Thomas of Evansville, Indiana is known for prodigious punching power as he has a record of 10-1-2 with eight knockouts.

Of those eight stoppages, seven have come in the first round with the remaining knockout being a second round knockout.

Like Ennis, Thomas is twenty-seven years old. Thomas turned pro on September 10, 2005 and he was undefeated in his first eight bouts by going 6-0-2. His lone loss came to capable Durrell Richardson (10-2) via unanimous decision

Thomas has won four straight with three knockouts. In his last two bouts, Thomas has scored first round knockouts over Dennis Ogboo (6-2) and veteran trial horse James Morrow (11-16-3).

In a six round Lightweight bout, Vineland, New Jersey’s Jose “El Gallo” Reyes will see action against an opponent to be named.

Reyes has a record of 23-7 with eight knockouts and will be looking to get back in the win column and re-establishing himself as a top contender in the 135 pound division

Reyes won fifteen of his first sixteen bouts which included a win over future world title challenger Rogers Mtagwa (14-6-2) and former world champion Juan Polo Perez (46-32-4).

Reyes then dropped three of four to top competition with two being former world champions in Kevin Kelley (55-6-2) and Cristobal Cruz (33-9-1) as well as future world title challenger Czar Amonsot (15-1-1).

Reyes made a statement during a four fight winning streak as he beat former world champion Javier Jauregui (51-13-2); tough contender Ivan Valle (26-6-1) and heralded prospect Noe Bolanos (20-2).

Reyes continues to fight the best of the light division as he has dropped three in a row but fought very well against future world title challenger Antonio DeMarco (19-1-1) in a fight that was ruled a split decision. Many that watched the fight ringside and watching around the country on SHO BOX though that Reyes could have got the decision.

In his last two bouts, Reyes was giving future world title challenger Antonio Pitalua (46-6-1) a boxing lesson by taking the first five rounds before walking into a punch and being knocked out in the sixth.

Reyes very suitable opponent will be announced shortly.

Local prospects will highlight the rest of the undercard and they will include Super Middleweight Joel De La Paz (5-0, 4 KO’s); Light Heavyweight Lavarn “Baby Bowe” Harvell (5-0, 2 KO’s); Exciting Bantamweight prospect Qa’id Muhammad (5-0, 5 KO’s); Super Middleweight Eugene Soto (2-0,1 KO; Jr. Middleweight Ismael Garcia (2-0, 1 KO); Rounding out the card will be Super Middleweight Isiah Seldon (1-0) who is the son of the former WBC Heavyweight champion, Bruce Seldon. All those undefeated prospects will compete in four round bouts.
