PETER MCGRAIL HAS ‘UNFINISHED BUSINESS’ AS JAPAN FIGHT CONFIRMED

LIVERPOOL, OCTOBER 18 – Peter McGrail will have “unfinished business” on his mind when he fights on the undercard of a monster show in Japan this December.

The brilliantly gifted super bantamweight has secured a place on the undercard of the huge undisputed world bantamweight title showdown between Naoya Inoue and Paul Butler in Tokyo.

McGrail returns to Japan on December 13 ready to draw a line under the disappointment of his Olympic exit in the country last year and show the world of boxing why he remains destined for the pinnacle of the sport.

The Liverpool fighter headlined his first show at Probellum Liverpool II on Saturday night, and delivered a performance worthy of his billing, as he broke the spirit of Alexander Espinoza and forced him to retire at the start of round six.

McGrail (5-0, 4 KOs) now turns his attention to an eight-round contest with Hironori Miyake at the Ariake Arena and ending 2022 with a bang in Japan.

I’ve got unfinished business in Japan,” McGrail told Probellum.com.

“The last time I was there, I had a belter of a trip with the team, a trip that will be me for the rest of my life, and I’m proud of where I got to, as an amateur and going to the Olympics, but I just feel as though I’ve got unfinished business.

“And it would be nice to go over there and get the win. I should’ve got a few wins when I was there last time, but it’s a different game now, that was the amateurs, but I’ve got unfinished business.”

McGrail has made a stunning start to life as a professional and he hopes the return to Tokyo will cap off an excellent year.

“I’m looking forward to going back because when we went, it was during Covid, so I’ve only seen Japan looking out of buses and looking from balconies,” he said.

“I didn’t get to see what it’s about and obviously I didn’t get the result we wanted. So, we’ll be going over there, getting the result we want, and I’ll be with my team, making good memories. We were in Dubai at the start of the year, I headlined my first show in Liverpool in my fifth fight, in my first 10 rounder, so things are looking good.”

PARKER VS RYDER ALL SET FOR 26 NOVEMBER AT THE 02

THE WBO INTERIM super middleweight world championship will be on the line when Zach Parker takes on John Ryder at The 02 on Saturday November 26 in what should be a thrilling domestic collision, live on BT Sport.

Parker, the super middleweight destroyer from Derby, was originally set to fight Demetrius Andrade for the Interim title before the American withdrew from the running and next in line is North Londoner Ryder, who Parker has previously expressed a keen willingness to fight in what is a major all-British clash.

Parker (22-0, 16 KOs) has blasted out all before him since teaming up with Frank Warren and Queensberry, scoring brutal knockouts victories over Vaughn Alexander, Sherzod Khusanov and Marcus Morrison – three men who had not previously been stopped.

Now the 28-year-old goes up against the Islington ‘Gorilla’ in Ryder (31-5, 17), who has been in a formidable run of form at super middleweight, beating Daniel Jacobs last time out in February and who many observers felt edged Callum Smith in a world title challenge in November 2019.

A bumper card at the Greenwich venue will also see the unbeaten middleweight star Hamzah Sheeraz (16-0, 12) defend his WBC Silver title for a first time, having seized the belt in his second fight at 160lbs against Francisco Emanuel Torres in July.

Pierce O’Leary (10-0, 6), the super lightweight banger from Dublin, will have his second fight under the Queensberry banner and will challenge for the vacant WBC International championship.

The show also features two fascinating title fights involving two elite Queensberry prospects taking a significant step up.

Dennis ‘The Menace’ McCann (13-0, 7) from Maidstone will fight for the vacant Commonwealth super bantamweight title against Glasgow man Joe Ham (17-3, 6). Southpaw McCann, 21, has won the WBO Youth super bantamweight title and the WBC International Silver featherweight title in his last two fights.

Sam Noakes (9-0, 9), who is returning from a hand injury, will defend his WBC International lightweight title for a second time against the unbeaten Scot Calvin McCord (11-0, 2) as he bids to make it a perfect 10, with 10 fights and 10 KOs.

“We have got a cracking show lined up for The 02, headlined by what should be an absolute stormer between our man Zach Parker and the highly respected John Ryder for the WBO Interim world title at super middleweight,” said promoter Frank Warren.

“We were expecting Zach to come up against Demetrius Andrade, but with Andrade having pulled out for the second time, now it gives us a bigger domestic clash against the no.2 contender, Ryder. The winner will be the mandatory for when Canelo Alvarez is forced back into action at super middleweight, or elects to vacate his belts.

“Future world champions – in my book – Hamzah Sheeraz and Pierce O’Leary, will be in big fights and our top young prospects Dennis McCann and Sam Noakes are again in title action against highly competitive opponents who will give them their toughest tests to date.”

Bexley welterweight Micky Burke jr (7-0, 3) and London super lightweight Sonny Liston Ali (4-0) will be in six round fights, with Brick Lane welterweight Khalid Ali (4-0, 2) fighting over four rounds.

Tickets for Zach Parker vs John Ryder for the WBO Interim Super-Middleweight Championship at The O2 on Saturday, 26 November go on general sale at noon on Wednesday, 26 October from axs.com.

Fans are encouraged to sign-up for Ticket Alerts at frankwarren.com to receive the direct ticket link when tickets go on sale.

“New Blood” will take place at the Doubletree Hotel in Ontario, CA on Friday, October 21, 2022. Doors open at 6:30 pm PT with the first fight starting at 8:00 pm PT. Here is what Acosta had to say about his recent training camp, his upcoming match with Angulo, and more.

On his recent training camp:

“I’m having a tremendous training camp. The big thing since COVID-19 has been focusing on getting my weight to the perfect balance of maintaining strength while not depleting my energy or power. I feel that I’m becoming a high-level fighter, in addition I’m fighting at the most ideal weight class for myself as well, which this fight will show.”

On his matchup with Angulo:

“Angulo is a tricky fighter. His three losses are against a couple of guys who are undefeated and another with one loss. Regardless, this is the biggest fight of his life – so I am preparing for the best version of Jose Angulo.  Angulo is a very dangerous opponent and I’m taking this fight very seriously as I know he’s coming with everything he’s got.”

On fighting in Southern California in Thompson’s main event:

Fighting at home is great. From my family to people who come from the gym to support me, will all be here to watch me fight. Boxing is such a lonely sport, so anything that breaks up the mental grind and isolation is always such a welcomed sight. My goal is to be great, and in the process of achieving that I miss out on a lot of other things people get to do in their life. Fighting for people who care, motivates me. In addition, fighting in the main event for Thompson Boxing is a tremendous blessing, as I know this fight will be available to watch on every device, phone, tablet, smart TV, and computer.

On what a win does from his career:

“I am currently ranked #15 on BoxRec in the U.S., and I am hoping after this fight against a good opponent, I will move into the top-fifteen in one of the sanctioning organizations. I want to target the best possible opponents available, while listening to Thompson Boxing’s advice, as they have put me in a great position. I know many of the world titles are vacant right now, so I want to fight good opponents to get myself in the mix to fight champions.”

NEW WORLD CHAMPION JAZZA DICKENS SAYS LEIGH WOOD IS ‘CONNING’ BOXING PUBLIC

LIVERPOOL, OCTOBER 17 – New IBO world featherweight champion Jazza Dickens has issued a withering put down to Leigh Wood, telling him: “You’re conning the public”.

Dickens won the vacant IBO strap at Probellum Liverpool II on Saturday night, out-pointing South Africa’s Lerato Dlamini after 12 hard rounds.

The popular Liverpool fighter, 31, now wants to unify his IBO title with Wood’s WBA regular belt in a major all-British world title showdown.

Dickens, who has beaten Wood as both an amateur and professional, doubts the Nottingham man is mentally strong enough to accept a third fight between the pair but has urged his rival to “put up or shut up” having not fought since March.

“Three months ago, I went back to Ireland to start training for Leigh Wood, but we didn’t hear back, and I found out through social media that he was fighting someone else,” Dickens revealed to Probellum.com.

“He doesn’t want to fight me! I know he doesn’t want to fight me, and I knew he didn’t want to fight me in 2020 but he had to because it was a tournament. In terms of mentality, I knew I had him then and I’ve still got him now.

“He’s supposedly taking these big fights, but he’s not, he’s conning the public, he’s saying that he’s going to fight Lara, and then pulling out, he’s saying he is going to fight Santa Cruz, and then pulling out.

“Put up or shut up. Stop telling people you’re doing this and doing that because you’re not. He won the world title, so give him his props. I was proud of him that night, he did really well, but he’s blagging it right now. If he wants to come here, to Liverpool, and try and blag it, he won’t get away with it.”

Dickens had twice before failed in world title attempts but on an emotional night, in front of his home fans, he got the better of the dangerous Dlamini, to win via a unanimous decision with the ringside judges.

And no sooner was the IBO belt fitted around his waist, then Jazza set his sights on Wood.

“We’ve got history, we’ve fought twice before and that seems to be the common-sense fight to make,” he said.

Undefeated welterweight prospect Denzel Whitley in first title fight vs. Kris Jacobs

QUINCY, Mass. (October 17, 2022) – Undefeated welterweight prospect Denzel “Double Impact” Whitley plans to capture his first title, ascending to a regional contender status, November 19th against his stiffest test to date, Kris Jacobs (5-2-1, 2 KOs) on the  “Springfield Championship Boxing,” presented by Granite Chin Promotions, at Mass Mutual Center in Springfield, Massachusetts.

“Springfield Championship Boxing” will be streamed live on www.bxngtv.com.

“Denzel has been a rising star on the local boxing scene,” Granite Chin Promotions president Chris Traietti said. “Since turning pro, he has been competing at a rapid pace and continuously stepping up in competition. Kris Jacobs represents a real test for Denzel to show he is ready for the next level. Thank you to Boston Boxing Promotions for working with me to make this fight happen. With a win over Jacobs, the next one in line for Denzel would be Bryan Urday. Urday was the original opponent but, due to family obligations, November 19th didn’t work out. But putting the cart before the horse in this situation would be foolish, nobody is underestimating the ability of Kris Jacobs. Kris has a ton of experience and comes to fight. With that said, I have all the faith that Denzel will show up ready to go.”

Whitley (9-0, 5 KOs), fighting out of nearby Holyoke (MA), is a legacy boxer, trained  by former pro fighters and brothers, his father Derrick and Uncle Darrin. His showdown with Jacobs (5-2-1, 2 KOs), in a slated 8-rounder for the vacant Massachusetts State Welterweight title.

“My father has a New England title belt in the gym, I want to add my Massachusetts title belt,” Whitley said. I don’t know much about him (Jacobs). I saw him fight once, but they can give me anybody and I’ll still be ready. I have to do my job. I’ve trained my body to do everything, whether I’m fighting a boxer or puncher. I’ll use all my skills to adapt in the ring.”

Jacobs, of Fall River (MA(,  has defeated three previously undefeated opponents, including 2-0 Ryan Thomas Clark in his last fight by way of a 6-round split decision.

“I’ve seen him fight on the same card I’ve fought on or my friend’s card,” Jacobs remarked. “He (Whitley) fought my friend David Riberio in the amateurs. I expect to beat him (Whitley). I’ve trained even more seriously because he is undefeated. He has to be perfect. I’ve lost and understand it. Expect to see my A game there. It’s all on him!”

The 8-round co-featured event pits a pair of undefeated fighters, Pittsfield’s Steve Sumpter (6-0, 6 KOs) and Edet “Papito” Mkpanam (8-0, 7 KOs), for the vacant Massachusetts State Light Heavyweight Championship.

The tripleheader of Western Massachusetts’ top prospects , in Granite Chin’s inaugural show in Springfield, also features  Holyoke super welterweight Carlos Castillo (5-0, 3 KOs) versus Travis “Gambi” Gambardella (7-2-2, 3 KOs), of Revere (MA).

The Western Mass. tripleheader showcase also includes a 6-round throwdown between 24-year-old Castillo and  Revere (MA) welterweight Travis Gambardella (7-2-2, 3 KOs). Castillo is a skilled boxer who is stepping up in competition to fight Gambardella, who has won 5 of his last 7 fights and his two draws could have easily been victories.

The undercard is topped by undefeated lightweight prospect RayJay “The Destroyer” Bermudez (16-0, 11 KOs), of Albany (NY), against battle-tested gatekeeper Tyrone “Hands of Stone” Luckey (15-18-4, 11 KOs) in an 8-round match. Bermudez is trained by his uncle Hector Bermudez, who owns and operates a gym in Springfield.

Also fighting on the undercard in 4-rounders is Springfield super featherweight Isiah Cruz (4-0, 2 KOs) vs. TBA, as well as Springfield lightweight Carlos Gonzalez (2-0, 2 KOs) vs. pro-debuting Mathew McGee, of Fairfield, Maine.

WILLIAMSON AND KELLY FACE OFF IN NORTH EAST ‘JUDGEMENT NIGHT’ ON DECEMBER 2 IN NEWCASTLE

It’s title time on the Tyne, with the epic North-East battle for the British Super Welterweight Championship confirmed between Darlington’s Troy Williamson (19-0-1, 14KOs) and Sunderland’s Josh Kelly (12-1-1, 7 KOs) at the Utilita Arena, Newcastle on Friday December 2, live on Channel 5.

Kelly expressed his desire to compete for Williamson’s Lonsdale belt as the two came face-to-face in July after ‘PBK’ beat Lucas Bastida to claim the WBO International Super Welterweight Title on July 30 at Newcastle’s Vertu Arena.

With the champion equally keen to get the fight on, Williamson since added a win of his own to his undefeated record as he stopped David Benitez in the sixth round on September 17 at the University of Bolton Stadium live on Channel 5.

“We’re two fighters flying the flag for the North East, but only one of us holds that British title,” said Williamson. “Every fight is going to be a tough fight at this level, especially when belts are on the line.

“I’m the champ, I’m undefeated, and I don’t think there’s anything he can throw at me that’ll stop my reign as Super Welterweight king as I move on to bigger and better things.  One thing is for sure, and that’s fireworks.”

“This is set to be one of the North-East’s biggest fights in recent memory, and you can see exactly why,” said Kelly.

“Troy is British Champion for a reason and he’s obviously a good fighter. However, he’s just another obstacle in the way of me achieving what I’m destined to achieve, and he’ll be taken care of on December 2.”

After producing a stoppage win over Ted Cheeseman to become the British Champion in October of last year, Williamson has since defended his title against Mason Cartwright to set up this hugely anticipated clash against Kelly.

“The last time we ventured to the North-East, the people clearly showed their passion and love for boxing,” saidWasserman’s Head of Global Boxing, Kalle Sauerland.

“This time it is on another level as we bring one of the most hotly anticipated domestic dust-ups available. Two of the North-East’s own battling it out to boast the title of Britain’s best. Newcastle is about to host one of its biggest nights in the sport, and I cannot wait to be in the arena for an electric atmosphere come fight night.”

Williamson vs Kelly  for the British Super Welterweight Championship tops a huge night of boxing in the North-East on Friday December 2 at the Utilita Arena, Newcastle with more major fights to be announced soon. Promoted by Wasserman Boxing in association with William Hill and Infinitum Entertainment, all the action will be shown live and free on Channel 5.
