Pollo Lopez: “I am really happy to be here, and it is very exciting that (former) world champions will be calling my fight. This is a big step in my career fighting ProBox TV and it’s going to be a great night of fights. I know it’s going to be a tough fight and I am very prepared. I am going to be very smart in my attack and I think my intelligence in the ring will win me the fight on Friday Night.”
Tony Curtis Jr.: “I am very grateful and excited to be fighting here in Cancun. With Roy and ProBox and all the other guys here, it is a great opportunity. I am up and coming and ProBox is up and coming so we are going to be a great team. I don’t really know much about my opponent – Roy just told me to get in there and do is so that’s what I am going to do and that’s be a man. I know he is a bigger than my so I will beat him by using my speed, I guess. Tune in everyone to my pro debut on ProBox at 9 PM! (ET).”
Roy Jones Jr: “Mexico is very good, and I am highly excited for the card. Tony Curtis is sixteen years old and he is turning pro on Friday night! He is from the UK and he had ten amateur fights and he is making his pro debut. He’s got such a pro style already he didn’t need to fight as an amateur anymore – so go forward and here we are.” Roy trains Tony “Lightning Junior” Curtis.

Garry Jonas, ProBox TV CEO: “It’s a lot of fun to be in a place that loves boxing. It is the second most popular sport in Mexico; they are rabid fans and as a promoter and a TV network there is no better place to be when you know the community really loves the sport. That is the thing that is striking me most about the environment here. In the US boxing is maybe the ninth most popular sport, right? We are embracing the Mexican market. Obviously, our app shows here, and we see this as a phenomenal market for us . . .potentially more lucrative than the United States itself. We are excited about being here and they open their arms to ProBox TV and Juan Manuel and Roy and Paulie. It is obviously a good situation.”
Paulie Malignaggi: “Friday’s card looks explosive and it’s great scenery. Where boxing is beloved. This is a great place to hold a fight and Mexican’s are a rabid fan base and they love boxing.”
A ProBox TV monthly subscription is $1.99.

LOS ANGELES MEDIA DAY QUOTES GILBERTO “ZURDO” RAMIREZ, JOSEPH “JOJO” DIAZ, JR., WILLIAM “EL CAMARÓN” ZEPEDA, AND ALEXIS ROCHA DISCUSS THEIR UPCOMING FIGHTS ON DAZN

LOS ANGELES, CA (September 22, 2022) Today, undefeated, former WBO Super Middleweight World Champion Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez (44-0, 30 KOs) hosted a special Los Angeles Media Roundtable at Golden Boy offices to discuss his upcoming 12-round championship fight against also undefeated Dmitry Bivol (20-0, 11 KOs) for the WBA Light Heavyweight World Title on Saturday, Nov. 5 at Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi, UAE. The fight will be broadcast live worldwide on DAZN.
In addition to Zurdo, LA fan favorite and former IBF Super Featherweight title holder Joseph “JoJo” Diaz, Jr. (32-2-1, 15 KOs) and undefeated, rising lightweight division star William “El Camarón” Zepeda (26-0, 23 KOs) discussed their upcoming 12-round, crossroads fight set to take place at the Pechanga Arena San Diego on Saturday, Oct. 29 on DAZN. Alexis “Lex” Rocha (20-1, 13 KOs), who will be on the Diaz, Jr. vs. Zepeda undercard, also participated in the media roundtable and will face a soon-to-be-announced opponent in a 10-round welterweight fight to defend his NABO title.
Here is what the fighters had to say:
JOSEPH “JOJO” DIAZ, JR. – FORMER IBF SUPER FEATHERWEIGHT CHAMPION:
“I’m very excited because I know William Zepeda is a young, hungry fighter that is 26-0, with 23 knockouts and I know he is going to try bring it his all.
“This fight represents everything to my career right now. I’m coming off a defeat against Devin Haney. Unfortunately, the fight didn’t turn out the way I hoped.
“I’m ready to showcase everyone why I’m considered one of the best fighters in the world.
“I think William Zepeda is a one-dimensional fighter that is just going to apply a lot of pressure. If he thinks that I’m going to be the type of guy that is going to back away and shy away from any type of smoke, he got me [expletive] up. I’m going to be out there throwing as much and he is throwing.
“On October 29, he is going the be the live dog out there. I’m going to be the live dog. But I’m going to come out victorious.”
WILLIAM “EL CAMARÓN” ZEPEDA – LIGHTWEIGHT CONTENDER:
“I am very excited and very content about being able to participate in a match where a great fighter fights another great fighter.
“If I get the win against JoJo, this would be a great way for people to get to know me – a grand victory against a great rival who used to be a world champion. They are going to know that “El Camarón” is the best.
“JoJo is an aggressive and dangerous fighter with experience. But I will continue to prepare and train hard. This division is a very attractive and stacked one. We all know that we are all talented.”
ALEXIS “LEX” ROCHA – NABO WELTERWEIGHT CHAMPION:
“I’m very humbled and grateful for the Mexican-American fanbase behind me.
“This is what I wanted my whole life; the fans, the people, and the public is what I wanted. All those years of grinding since I was twelve years old. I gave up so much and scarified so much.
“People can say whatever about Santa Ana, but if you go to the diamond of the dirt, there are hard workers out there – people like me for example. We are trying to make it out and put our city on the map. It’s a privilege to be from Santa Ana.
“Boxing helped me get out of the danger. I was hanging out with the wrong kids at school, and I knew that if I hung out with them at night I wouldn’t get anywhere. Boxing definitely saved me.”
GILBERTO “ZURDO” RAMIREZ – UNDEFEATED, FORMER WBO SUPER MIDDLEWEIGHT WORLD CHAMPION:
“I am very grateful to be able to take this fight against Bivol, especially since I am very ready for this. The entire world will see Zurdo Ramirez and all the potential I have.
“At the end of the day, it’s just going to be me, him [Dmitry Bivol] and the referee inside of the ring. No one can help him once he is in the ring with me.
“The hardest fight that one has is the fight against oneself. To rise up and to stay focused, not just in boxing but in life as well.”

VIDEO: Deontay Wilder MEDIA WORKOUT | #WilderHelenius
DEONTAY WILDER LAS VEGAS MEDIA WORKOUT QUOTES

LAS VEGAS – September 22, 2022 – Former WBC Heavyweight World Champion and boxing superstar Deontay “The Bronze Bomber” Wilder previewed his long-awaited return to the ring during a media workout in Las Vegas Thursday, as he prepares to take on top-rated Robert “The Nordic Nightmare” Helenius in a WBC Heavyweight Title Eliminator on Saturday, October 15 topping a FOX Sports PBC Pay-Per-View from Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
The pay-per-view telecast begins at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT and will see Wilder look to make his first step toward becoming a two-time heavyweight champion with an emphatic victory over the hard-hitting Helenius. Wilder’s first title reign saw him rack up an astounding 10 consecutive successful defenses and a staggering 91.1% knockout rate, combining to make him one of the biggest stars in the sport today.
Tickets for the event, which is promoted by BombZquad Promotions and TGB Promotions, are on sale now and can be purchased through seatgeek.com and barclayscenter.com. Tickets are also available for purchase in-person at the American Express Box Office at Barclays Center.
Here is what Wilder and his trainer Malik Scott had to say Thursday from Las Vegas:
DEONTAY WILDER
On what he expects from Helenius…
“I always want a good matchup. Robert (Helenius) has been on a winning streak and he’s here. I’ve been hearing he’s supposed to be the mandatory for (Oleksandr) Usyk and however that’s laid out, but I know he’s coming with his A+++ game. They always do when they fight me.
“With Robert, I think he’s gotten even more confident because he’s been sparring with me for many, many years. So we kind of know each other. At this point in camp, we’re trying to do some things that he’s never seen before. And I’m sure he’s trying to do some things that I’ve never seen before. And the one thing I like about Robert is that he has a warrior’s heart, just like me.”
On training nonstop for long lengths of time…
“We’ve been doing 30 or 40 rounds nonstop. Only time I get water is during the break. I’ve just been doing things like that to challenge myself, doing things that have never been done before, or that you don’t really do in boxing. I wanted to see how my body adjusts to the long length of time without a break. When you can go a long time without taking a break, you’re in shape.”
On what’s special about fighting at Barclays Center…
“It’s not only just the beautiful arena that they have there, but they pack so many electrifying fans in there… I think Barclays Center has some of the best fans around. Every time I’ve been there, I’ve had an open-armed welcome, and I’m going to receive the same, or even greater, this time around. And I’m all smiles. I’ve been ready to come back to Barclays Center for some time now, and I get that opportunity… I’m coming back Brooklyn!”
On Usyk potentially being ringside on October 15 and a possible showdown against him in the near future…
“It’s music to my ears. I hold Usyk to be a very honorable person and a man of his word. So I’m looking forward to that. I’m not looking past Robert by any means. It’s good to know that Usyk will be in the arena. Welcome to a great show. And to all the fans, welcome to a great show for whoever is watching and attending, but I’m not looking past Robert.
“For Usyk to be able to bless me with a title shot when I’ve blessed so many during my reign, it’s a great feeling. So we’re going to get past October 15, and then after that we can see what happens. I’ve got a lot of things lined up, a lot of options in the works for me… But when it’s dealing with a title shot you’ve got to jump on it when the opportunity presents itself.”
On a renewed energy and doing things ‘his way’ in the second half of his career…
“It feels good. Even in my first reign, a lot of it was my way. But this right here is totally 100% Deontay Wilder’s way. I’m in a different position right now. And it just feels great to be in the position I’m in with no pressure. I don’t need the business anymore. When I do it, I do it for my own personal reasons. I’m doing it for the people and I’m doing it for some hardware, some titles.”
MALIK SCOTT, Wilder’s Trainer
On how training camp has been going overall…
“We’ve put in over 500 rounds on the pads and 500 rounds just with intent shadow boxing. What I’m impressed with the most by Deontay, whatever it takes to make himself a complete fighter, he’s willing to try. He’s willing to put a gallant effort into that, and that’s what we’ve been doing.
“There are so many different dimensions to this guy’s game. I just want the world to see it because I’ve been seeing it for the past few years. And what I mean by that is he’s not just a one-punch knockout artist. He can do so many different things in the ring and then set them up for the one-punch knockout. He’s a good body puncher. He has a great left hook. It’s just about him having tons of discipline, sticking to a gameplan, having humility and doing these things with importance.”
On a reenergized Deontay Wilder and what motivates him now…
“Deontay is fighting for himself, as well as for the inspiration that he gives so many people. Deontay is the real people’s champ. It’s not about money. It’s not about materialistic things. It’s about him being extremely motivated and inspired by so many people that he’s touched across the world and across the nation that he’s willing to do it again. And honestly, he hasn’t taken his foot off the gas in training.”
On Wilder and Helenius having been sparring partners in the past…
“Yes, Deontay has sparred Helenius. I was there, and I saw how well Deontay did with him, but Helenius is not a good spar. He doesn’t spar very well. Anybody could have an Okay day with him. He’s very technically sound and he knows how to protect himself, but he’s not a good spar. He’s a good fighter when the lights are on, when it’s time to throw a monkey wrench into the apple cart and to upset people, this is when he comes alive. And this makes him more dangerous in this fight because if anyone is going to train as hard as they ever trained and be more alert than they’ve ever been is when they’re fighting Deontay Wilder. He brings the best out of his opponents.
On a possible Wilder vs. Usyk showdown in the future…
“Coming from a coaching standpoint, it works perfect for me because Deontay Wilder is big time boxing. Robert Helenius, in my opinion, this is a big, dangerous fight. Deontay is going to pass this test with flying colors. After that, my opinion of his next opponent is that it should be Oleksandr Usyk or Anthony Joshua possibly… These are the kind of fights he gets up for.
“I truly believe that Deontay Wilder is the only heavyweight in the world that can beat Oleksandr Usyk, and I have so many reasons to back that up.”

JOYCE VS PARKER: PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES

THE TALKING IS now over and Joe Joyce and Joseph Parker are fast closing in on a huge heavyweight collision for the WBO Interim world championship at the AO Arena, Manchester on Saturday night, live on BT Sport Box Office.
This afternoon, the leading two heavyweights with the WBO and their respective teams, faced the media at the towering Hilton Hotel and below is a selection of key quotes from the event.
Photos from today’s press conference can be downloaded here.
George Warren (CEO, Queensberry)
“I think we are all just happy to get this fight on. Credit to both guys, it is a fight Steve Bunce summed up pretty accurately in the Independent when he said it is not a fight that either guy really needed, but here we are and testament to both guys for stepping up and doing it. WBO No.1 and WBO No.2, the Interim title is on the line and, while some people might not like that word, it is an important one particular at the moment in the heavyweight division. We all know Usyk, with the unified titles, is angling for a possible undisputed fight early next year with Tyson Fury, but the belt on Saturday night is going to pay a lot into 2023 in the heavyweight division.
“We are here because Joe Joyce wanted this fight, that is the reason. We have worked very hard to get here and both sides will probably admit it was not the easiest deal to get done. We thought we had it done, then we didn’t and then we thankfully managed to resolve some issues. It is going to be a cracking night, it is a stacked card and I am really happy to be working with so many different promoters, including Boxxer, and I appreciate their support, particularly Ben and Sky for making this happen and allowing us to make it on BT Box Office. That type of good spirited nature is required in this sport at times and we see it across the whole card. We’ve got Lou DiBella working with us in regards to the Cacace-Magnesi fight, plus the great Amanda Serrano looking to unify again working with MVP, Jake Paul and Nikisa. Plus our friends at Top Rank for taking this on ESPN+, so this really is a culmination of a lot of different promotional companies coming together, making fights happen and delivering for fight fans.”
Joe Joyce
“You have been in the sport a long time – a seasoned vet. He is seeing a psychologist so maybe there is some weakness in his mental capabilities that he needs to work on, I would imagine. I don’t believe there will be an easy night against me and he will find out with real time punches to his head, body and all over. He sees me as a lump and this big lump will be coming at him on Saturday night.
“I’ve had a really great camp with my team and Salas over there has been sending me little clips of what I need to work on in the fight. We are well prepared and have done all the biomechanics and polishing up of all my skills. It was really great to have that last fight against Hammer to show that I can take three or four right hands coming forward. I am in the better place and will improve on all the things I need to in this fight. I feel I am in the best place and what a great opponent in Joseph Parker. I just want to get the gloves on and fight him after this little talking session.”
Joseph Parker
“I don’t really care what he thinks or what his opinion is on my power or how I fight. He’ll get a taste of it on Saturday night. I’ve done the work and I back everything that Andy says. We’ve been in the gym every day grinding away with Tyson joining our runs and training, cheering us on with positive vibes. Everything has been ticked off in this camp so there are no excuses and no doubts. I will go in there and win, and win well. Joe Joyce has one style, I don’t see any adjustments or any change. I t just depends on how I show up.
“I see a lump when I look at him, a big man, a man who is confident and ready. And is going to be stopped in his tracks. I truly believe that and I am very confident going into this fight. Hype train.”
Ben Shalom (Boxxer)
“Outside maybe the top four guys, this is the biggest fight in the division with what’s on the line. Mentioning Joe Joyce wanted this fight, when we signed Joe Parker, despite him signing with us he said ‘Ben, if there is a way, make this fight happen’. We managed to work with George and get the terms that Joseph wanted and George was great with that. This is the fight Joseph Parker wanted, make no mistake about that. And so to be able to get it on for him, he feels this is coming at the right time in his career, he has had a few fights with Andy Lee, and he feels like he is coming into the peak of his career. He is 30 years old, a former world champion and seven years younger than Joe Joyce. He feels fresh, he feels ready, he’s got the experience and we felt this is the perfect fight. Thankfully, with Queensberry and BT as well, the fight is on and the fans are happy. I think the card is very, very good as well and I can’t wait for Saturday night.”
Ismael Salas (Joyce trainer)
“I’ve been following Mr Joe Parker and his team during training camp for this fight and he has been doing great conditioning, working hard. One thing I would like to say to his team, you can run, but remember you can’t hide. We have been working with so many good sparring partners and the Hammer fight broke the ice after a layoff without a fight. We will see on Saturday night, man down, man down!”
Andy Lee (Parker trainer)
“Any fight can be made an easy fight depending on what style you use and what tactics you use. Joseph Parker has been well drilled throughout this camp and knows what he has to do to make this an easy fight. I’m not going to say how he should do it, but he knows and I know. I mean no disrespect to Joe Joyce, we all know his credentials in the sport and what he has done so far. He hasn’t fought anyone like Joseph Parker yet. It will be a hard fight and at this level it is a minimum requirement, to work hard. Joseph Parker has all the skill, the speed and the talent, plus the determination to win this fight easily – if he does it well.”
Adam Moralee (Joyce manager)
“We have tremendous respect for Joseph Parker, a former world champion who has got the heart of a warrior and he is elite. A world champion and Joe wants to get there. I think that Joe Joyce can get there and will get there on Saturday night. Joseph’s team have publicly been saying things that show very little respect for Joe Joyce. I heard someone on their side say he has got zero boxing ability. I look at this man who is about to go 15-0. Show me a man who has got his resume at 14-0. He has not fought anyone with a losing record, he has fought former world champions, beaten Daniel Dubois, who people said would flatten him in two or three rounds. He consistently defies expectations and consistently defies the disrespect that he gets constantly. I think on Saturday you are going to see the real level of Joe Joyce and what he does when he faces off against a fighter at the very top of the division. No doubt when Joe wins people will still criticise things, but this guy is going up and up and only going one way. For me, Usyk, Fury and Joyce are the top three in the division.”
David Higgins (Parker manager)
“We’re feeling good and it is a privilege to be back in Manchester for the fourth time. Joe has had three wins in Manchester so far and has been welcomed by Tyson Fury and the wonderful people around him who are almost like family. So it is not like fighting on enemy territory, it is like a home fight and we love it here. Stuff flies around on social media, but to say we don’t respect Joyce is silly. We’ve massive respect for him and there is a reason most top heavyweights have avoided Joe Joyce. He is a formidable opponent, but our Joseph Parker has never shied away from risk and has stepped as quick as possible into the biggest fights and occasions with an eye for a world title. Outside of the title holders, in Joyce and Parker you’ve got the two heavyweights at the very top. It is an international blockbuster event on worldwide TV.”

In 2013 she won the vacant UBF International super bantamweight title and in 2014 won the WBC International super bantamweight title, which she successfully defended five times. On October 27, 2018, Heather became world champion, winning the WBO featherweight title with a unanimous decision win over Shelly Vincent at Madison Square Garden. Heather lost the title the following September to Amanda Serrano in a clash of women boxing stars.
“I’m glad to be working with Boxing Insider promotions. It’s great to start now so when it comes time to retire from fighting, it’s a way to keep me involved in the sport,” said Hardy who is not only headlining the event but also has a big behind the scenes role. “It has given me the opportunity to use all the knowledge I have acquired over the years as a fighter to help create this platform that is going to elevate the next generation of fighters from New York.”

The unpredictable Nadim Salloum (8-1, 3 KO’s), the first pro fighter born and raised in Lebanon, will be seen in a six-round light heavyweight bout. Salloum, who now lives in Brooklyn, has a large and vocal following among his countrymen in the New York City area.
Another light heavyweight on the card is Orville Crooks (3-0, 2 KO’s), one of best amateurs New York has produced in recent years. Crooks, who hails from the Bedford-Stuyvesant area of Brooklyn, is both a U.S. Amateur champion and a National Golden Gloves champion. For him, the sky is truly the limit.
In an eight-round super lightweight bout will be former World Boxing Association Continental Americas Super Lightweight Champion Petros Ananyan (16-3-2, 7 KOs), born and raised in Armenia and now residing in Los Angeles. Petros will battle Brazilian Paulo Cesar Galdino (12-5, 8 KOs)
“I’m humbled and honored,” says Larry Goldberg, CEO of Boxing Insider. “I’m getting to live every boxing fan’s dream by promoting a show in New York. We’re working hard and we’re going to make it happen.”
“it’s my pleasure to be working with Larry on this, his first venture into promoting,” says recent Hall of Fame inductee Lou DiBella of DiBella Entertainment, who holds promotional rights to Hardy and Golub. “And especially as it’s at an historic venue like Sony Hall. It’ll be a great night.”

VIDEO: Maxi Hughes vs Kid Galahad & Hannah Rankin vs Terri Harper Press Conference
QUOTES FROM THE FINAL PRESS CONFERENCE FOR HUGHES VS. GALAHAD

Maxi Hughes (defends IBO World Lightweight title against Kid Galahad): Only Barry knows if he’s the same after that KO. Speaking to Terri about it, she had the same with Alicia Baumgardner on the same night, but she’s exorcised those demons in March by getting back in the ring. I spoke to Tony Bellew, and he said, no-one gets to see if they have exorcised the demons until they get back through the ropes and get hit on the chin by eight ounce gloves. There was genuine compassion there, no-one likes to see a fellow fighter go down as heavy as that and see paramedics rush to the ring. We never think it’s going to happen we just want to get in, fight and get home to our families.
I don’t put pressure on myself in terms of ‘get through this fight and the next fight is massive’. It’s the way I live my life. I’ve got two young kids that I adore, and being a full-time boxer means I am around them more, that’s where the pressure comes because I want to keep living that life. What comes next will happen, nothing is guaranteed, I just want to keep being a full-time fighter and the best Dad to my kids.
The form and momentum are with me, but I am underdog again and that’s something I am used to, it’s just how I approach things regardless of what people think, the bookies think; we’re confident as a team in what we’re doing and that’s the most important thing – getting my hand raised and hearing ‘and still’.
Kid Galahad (moves up to Lightweight to challenge Hughes): I always put big pressure on myself in every fight. I’ve got the underdog mentality, every fight is do or die and I must do a job on Maxi Hughes, and I will. This new weight I feel fresher, I’m not struggling, and I feel great.
With the Kiko Martinez loss, that’s boxing, it can happen, I went straight back into the gym. You (Eddie) said to me to go on holiday and have a break, but I had to get in the gym and clear my mind, think about how it went wrong, I know what I did wrong, we’ve adjusted it and on Saturday night we’ll see that.
Maxi’s mate Josh got KO’d by Mauricio Lara and he came back to win a World title, so it depends how you are built. I think if Maxi got KO’d the way I did, he would have been finished but I am a different gravy to him, and on Saturday we’ll see.
It’s not mind games, it’s the truth. I got KO’d by Kiko, he asked his trainer to pull him out of a fight because he had a bloody nose. That’s the truth, I’m not sugar-coating it, I would rather go out on my shield, that’s the difference in our mentalities.
Stefy Bull (manager of Maxi Hughes, trainer/manager of Terri Harper): Maxi has probably had the best rise in British boxing over the last few years, very unexpected with some fantastic wins and fights he wasn’t meant to win. The bookies have him as the underdog again and he relishes that. Maxi has been training for Barry for nearly 12 weeks, but we’ve had things thrown our way like the Ryan Garcia fight or the Jorge Linares fight, but Maxi has just stayed focused on Barry.
They might be counter punchers, but I don’t see this being a boring fight at all. They both have a lot of pride, it’s a Yorkshire derby, there’s a bit of needle between them, and I am looking forward to it as a fan, not just as Maxis’ manager. It’s intriguing with Barry coming up a couple of weights, but Maxi is in his prime, he’s not showing any signs of decline and he hasn’t dropped a round in his last two fights. A confident fighter is very hard to beat, Maxi is a big strong Lightweight, this is his division, and he’s not going to want to let the title go because a Maxi Hughes win does warrant a super-fight next that could be life changing. He is the easiest fighter to manage because he just says yes, or yes but can you get me a bit more money. He will fight anyone, and I think the fans are in for a fantastic night.
I think Barry is going to be better at Lightweight, I really do. Dominic is one of the best trainers in the world, he knows what he’s doing, and Barry will be rejuvenated, stronger and full of energy at 135lbs. I’ve been with fighters that struggle to make weight, Terri is one of them but the McDonnell twins, Robbie Barrett; we’re in a weight-making sport and some people that aren’t in boxing don’t realize how fatigued fighters come but they are still having to grind it out because they have that belt. So, I think Barry will be better, but Maxi is ready for that, and it’s going to be a better fight for it.
Dominic Ingle (trainer of Kid Galahad): I don’t think four pounds was going to be enough headroom for Barry, and a lot of fighters that move up from nine stone, they may have one fight at Super-Featherweight, but they tend to move up to Lightweight. It was always a struggle but when you are in the World champion position, you cannot really turn down fights as that belt is your bargaining power. Kiko still has fight in him, he proved that against JW when he broke his jaw, he’s a massive puncher, and Barry just got caught, and the resistance to the shots just wasn’t there.
Barry has never had a problem taking a shot, so I do believe it was down to making weight. So, I think we will see a different fighter on Saturday, a more hydrated and powerful Kid Galahad, back to his usual ways. Maxi is a good fighter and he’s come good the last couple of years and it’s his title to defend, but we’re here to take it and hopefully we do.
He can’t take any chances or leave anything to doubt, he’s got to put it on Maxi and leave no doubt. Maxi is a good boxer, he likes to move and can fight when he has to, but it’s the last chance saloon for Barry and he has to win and make a good impression if he wants the big fights at Lightweight. There’s pride on the line, they both have to win this, defeat for either of them is probably the end of the road.
Hannah Rankin (defending the WBA and IBO World Super-Welterweight titles against Terri Harper): I don’t believe Terri is big enough to be at this weight ad she’s going to find that out on Saturday. I’m a true 154lber, WBA and IBO World champion and I’m building my strength and development as a fighter, so I am looking forward to putting on a show.
Moving up so many weights, I don’t think she can be the same because things change when you add weight to your frame. I’m expecting the best version of Terri though, she’s a former World champion for a reason, I have a lot of respect for her and her team, but I don’t think she’ll be the same at 154.
There are some very exciting fights out there and a unification with Tasha Jonas is on the cards, that’s one of those things that just fuels my fore for the fight, I only see my arm being raised but those fights will have to wait, my focus is on Terri.
Terri Harper (moves up to challenge Rankin for the WBA and IBO titles): I’m excited, this is the first camp that I can say I’ve really enjoyed, not just because of the weight but everything else. I feel I have my chance to become World champion again, I’ve got the fire burning and I’m hungry for it and I know getting the win at the weekend will open even more doors, so I am excited.
People don’t realize that I walk around at 10/11/12st, so me cutting weight to get to Super-Featherweight, that was reckless, and I was fighting World class fighters under fueled, tired, and unhappy. So, when we got this chance to go up the weights, I just knew I would feel comfortable at the weight and go in there knowing I can handle myself.
I’ve matured as a fighter; I’ve experienced a lot of things. Hannah thinks I am quiet, timid, and shy but I’m here to show that I do have a voice and it’s not Stefy on my twitter, I can handle myself.
Cyrus Pattinson (faces Jorick Luisetto for the IBO Continental Welterweight title): I’m more than happy to step up, my camps haven’t been smooth sailing recently with fights falling through. So, this opportunity has come at the right time for me, and I believe that that it wouldn’t have come if I wasn’t ready, so I am going to get that title on Saturday.
I want these fights and these titles. I’ve been sparring 16 rounds in the gym with bigger lads, so I know that I am more than capable. All my years with Team GB, I’ve always been prepared to fight anyone and it’s onwards and upwards from here, I don’t want to stay in a comfort zone at all, and this fight has got me switched on.
Solomon Dacres (fights Dominic Akinlade over ten rounds): The Sokolowski fight was great, especially looking at what he’s done since then, and my last fight in July was a good test too. I just need to stay active; we’re moving up to ten rounders and kicking on to the next level, I’m being let off the leash.
I’m not here to hang about, I’ve got great stamina for a Heavyweight, and I train very hard, so let’s go to the ten rounders and push on to bigger fights. That’s what we’re in boxing for, to win titles, so let’s go and get those title fights. The next 12-18 months I feel we’re going to be knocking on the door for them.
Cheavon Clarke (fights Marcos Karalitzky): We’re here to step up, not hide behind mediocre fighter, I want to show the people what the excitement is about. You need experience, I don’t come to KO people but as and when it comes, I will take the opportunity. I know that you (Eddie) will navigate me as I need to be, and I’ll handle whoever is in front of me.
Junaid Bostan (2-0 and makes his Matchroom debut): I said to you in Sheffield, Eddie, get your pen and paper out as you will be signing me after this. I’m not surprised to be here, but I am privileged. I’ve got big things that I am planning, and I am going to make the most of every opportunity. I’m looking to put on a big performance on Saturday and carry on with my career. He’ll be 2-1 on Saturday night, I will do as I am told as I’m in good hands with my team.
Mohammed Sameer (4-0 Middleweight): I got the call last Friday from my manager Lee Eaton, I got tickets on Monday evening, and we’ve already sold 150, so we’ve got a lot of people coming on Saturday and they will make plenty of noise. I’ve always dreamed of being on cards like this so it’s a dream come true and I’m ready to perform on Saturday.
I’ve got an exciting style, I come to fight, and I am going to show everyone what I am about.
Rhiannon Dixon (Anthony Crolla-trained Lightweight, fighting Edina Kiss): When Anthony put that tweet out (about working hard) I thought ‘get the violins out!’ I’m the one making the weight, all he’s bothered about is his hair! I think it will be a good learning fight for me. She’s got a lot of experience, she’s been in with Amanda Serrano, Mikaela Mayer, so I am looking to put on a good performance.
We’re looking at stepping up in. 2023 and hopefully fighting for some titles, it’s an exciting time and going over to Spain last time out and dealing with that fight, I think it’s put me in good stead.
WASSERMAN BOXING AND MATCHROOM STARS MAKE UP EUBANK JR. VS. BENN UNDERCARD
Matchroom and Wasserman stars make up the undercard when ‘Born Rivals’ Chris Eubank Jr. and Conor Benn clash on a sold-out blockbuster night of action at The O2 in London on Saturday October 8, exclusively live on DAZN around the world and on DAZN PPV in the UK and Ireland.
Olympic gold medal star Galal Yafai will defend his WBC International Flyweight title against Gohan Rodriguez Garcia. Yafai (2-0 2 KOs) has made an impressive start to life in the paid ranks following his golden trip to the 2020 Tokyo games, winning the title he puts on the line on his debut at the North Greenwich venue in February, and successfully defending it with a second round KO win at Madison Square Garden in April. The Birmingham ace now meets Mexican Garcia (12-1-1 1 KO) in his second defence of his title, with the 21 year old challenger fighting outside of his homeland for the first time in his second title fight, having landed the International Silver title in April 2021.
Light-Heavyweight star Lyndon Arthur is back out in quick succession following his return to action after headlining in September. Arthur (20-1 14 KOs) stopped Walter Sequeira in bullyish fashion when he got the win inside six rounds at The University of Bolton Stadium earlier this month, and the former Commonwealth champion will look to swiftly put his name back where it belongs and return to title action.
Ellie Scotney hunts for another title as she challenges Mary Romero for the European Super-Bantamweight title. Scotney (5-0) landed the WBA Intercontinental title in February at Alexandra Palace and successfully defended that strap at The O2 in May – beating former World champions Jorgelina Guanini and Maria Cecilia Roman in those bouts. The next strap in her sights proudly belongs to Romero (8-2 2 KOs) who puts the belt on the line for the third time. The Spaniard picked up the vacant belt on home turf in January 2020 and then successfully defended it against Amy Timlin in Barcelona in September 2021 and most recently against Maria Cecchi in Milan, Italy in May and now fights in England for the first time in a clash that should move the winner into World title contention.
It’s a family affair for Harlem Eubank, who fights on the undercard of his older cousin Chris Jr and meets Spaniard David Martin over six rounds. Eubank (15-0 6 KOs) has made the Super-Lightweight division stand up and take notice with eye-catching performances of late, notably his stunning one-punch KO of Sean ‘Masher’ Dodd in May at The Indigo at The O2, after forcing Viorel Simion to retire after five rounds of a scheduled eight in Cardiff. Not to forget his most recent win over Eliot Chavez in July where Eubank outclassed and frustrated the dangerous Mexican opponent into illegal punches, forcing a disqualification win to be awarded.
World rated Middleweight Felix Cash continues his hunt for World title honours as he meets the unbeaten Connor Coyle for the WBA Intercontinental title. Undefeated Cash (15-0 10 KOs) got through a gut-check in his last outing against dangerman Magomed Madiev at Alexandra Palace in Feburary, and the former British and Commonwealth champion, ranked number four with the WBO and number 10 with the IBF, will look to enter the top ten in the WBA with victory. Coyle () will have other ideas though, and the Florida-based Irishman, ranked number ten to Cash’s number 12 ranking with the WBA, will be out to ruin Cash’s plans and make a name for himself in his first fight in England.
Big hitting Heavyweight ‘Magic’ Matty Harris is on the hunt for a third first round KO win in a row and will take on Chris Healey over six. Harris (3-0 2 KOs) put Mait Metsis away in the opening session of their fight in Newcastle in April and repeated that trick two months later in Liverpool against Pawel Strykowski. Standing in the way of the Coventry man’s hat-trick is Healey (), the Stockport stalwart who has already tested the rising ambitions of Fabio Wardley and David Adeleye this year.
Shannon Courtenay makes a welcome return to the ring against Gemma Ruegg. Courtenay (7-2 3 KOs) will step through the ropes just one day shy of her last action in Liverpool, where Jamie Mitchell picked up Courtenay’s WBA World Bantamweight title via majority decision after the Brit failed to make the weight. ‘The Baby-Faced Assassin’ is aiming to get right back into the mix to become a two-time World ruler, and that starts with her return against Ruegg (5-4 1 KO), the Bournemouth fighter who like Courtenay, also fights for the tenth time in her pro career.
Former Team GB talent Chloe Watson completes the line-up, with the Flyweight talent taking on former World champion Nancy Franco in a six rounder. Watson (3-0) returns to the capital where she made her debut at York Hall in November and is looking for win number four in the paid ranks after winning on home soil in Merseyside in June in her first six rounder against Fara El Bousairi. The Birkenhead boxer, who trains under the former light welterweight and welterweight world champion Ricky Hatton, faces a real step up in the form of Franco (19-17-2 ), the vastly experienced Mexican who has held the World title at Minimumweight and challenged at Light-Flyweight.
“We’re just over a fortnight away from ‘Born Rivals’ and one of British boxing’s most monumental moments in the sport. A rivalry reignited by two fighters who are ready to settle the family business and find themselves under the spotlight of global boxing, and we have the perfect card to suit such an occasion,” said Kalle Sauerland, Wasserman’s Head of Global Boxing. “A world class event demands a card that matches the hype and, whilst we’re settling the biggest rivalry in boxing history, we have always allowed stars to break out and raise their stock on massive platforms. We’re almost there, the countdown begins…..there’s no bigger one than this!”
“We have built a stacked night of action at The O2, building up to an historic main event,” said Eddie Hearn. “There’s a great mix of rising stars and established names looking to enhance their claims for World title action. The atmosphere is going to be electric on a sold-out night in London, so this is a golden opportunity for these fighters to make a name for themselves before we witness an explosive new chapter in a classic British rivalry.”
‘THE FIRST LADY’ CECILIA BRAEKHUS GOES TITLE HUNTING!

Los Angeles, CA (September 22, 2022) Former Undisputed Women’s World Champion, ‘The First Lady’ Cecilia Braekhus is going Title Hunting in the Junior Middleweight Division.
“I’m very excited to compete in the 154lb. division and want to fight all of the world champions,” said Braekhus, (36-2, 9 KO’s). “I fought for thirteen years as a welterweight with great success and now I’m looking for the biggest fights at 154,” said Braekhus following a training session under the watchful eye of Johnathon Banks.
“Looking at the best fighters at 154, I’d want to face the world champions; Hannah Rankin, Natasha Jonas or Marie-Eve Dicaire, there’s no time to waste and I’d happily fight them anywhere they wish.” Other top names who have long expressed interest in facing Braekhus include MMA Superstar Cris Cyborg, former world champion Christina Hammer, current world champion Hanna Gabriels and top contender Maricela Cornejo.
Since her last fight in March 2021, Braekhus has used her time wisely. “The break has given me a chance to reset my career and truly focus on my goal of becoming a world champion at 154 and towards another undisputed status.”
“I’m so glad to see all the work myself and others invested in women’s boxing and to watch the sport grow for so many girls,” stated Braekhus who worked tirelessly for over seven years to lift the professional boxing ban in her native Norway.
Upon the ban being lifted in Norway, Braekhus defended her undisputed status four times (2016-2017) in her native country with each event drawing capacity crowds of over 10,000 fans and garnering record-setting broadcast ratings.
Braekhus truly shattered the glass ceiling for women’s boxing in 2017, fighting in the first women’s fight broadcast by HBO from Los Angeles, CA. Her victory over top rated challenger Kali Reis was watched in the United States by 904,000 viewers.

CRISTOPHER LOPEZ BATTLES ALEJANDRO DIAZ FOR WBC SUPER BANTAMWEIGHT REGIONAL TITLE FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 23 IN CANCUN ON PROBOX TV
CANCUN, September 21, 2022 — The final press conference took place today in Cancun for ProBox TV, Marquez Promotions and Pepe Gomez’ Cancun Boxing for Friday’s boxing card at the Oasis Resort. Friday’s boxing will also take place at Oasis Resort and will be streamed live on ProBox TV and the ProBox App beginning at 9:00 pm ET / 6 pm PT.
In Friday’s main event Cristopher “Pollo” Lopez (15-0-1, 10 KOs), from Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, will battle Alejandro “El Conejo” Diaz (11-4-2, 6 KOs), from Mexico City, Mexico for a WBC Regional Title. Of the ten fighters on the televised portion of the card, seven are Mexicans, as that is the plan and the plan moving forward – Mexican prospects on the Mexican shows.
The opener will be the professional debut of sixteen year old phenom Tony “Lightning Junior” Curtis, trained by Roy Jones Jr.
The second Marquez Promotions event will take place November 18 also at Oasis Resort. In 2023, there will be monthly events throughout Mexico (Mexico City, Monterrey, Culiacan, Acapulco, Guadalajara) all streamed live on ProBox TV.
The full streamed card is below.
Quotes from today:
Juan Manuel Marquez: “Right now, I am very excited to be bringing ProBox TV to Mexico and promoting this card. Mexico has the best fighters in the world and is is great to be here.”
Roy Jones Jr: “Mexico is very good, and I am highly excited for the card. Tony Curtis is sixteen years old and he is turning pro on Friday night! He is from the UK and he had only ten amateur fights and he is making his pro debut. He’s got such a pro style already he didn’t need to fight as amateur anymore – so go forward – and here we are.” Roy trains Tony “Lightning Junior” Curtis.
Paulie Malignaggi: “Friday’s card looks explosive and it’s great scenery. Where boxing is beloved. This is a great place to hold a fight and Mexican’s are a rabid fan base and they love boxing.”

VIDEO: Shakur Stevenson vs Robson Conceicao | FINAL PRESS CONFERENCE
Brick City Homecoming: Newark’s Shakur Stevenson Set to Defend Junior Lightweight Titles Against Brazilian Contender Robson Conceição

NEWARK, N.J. (Sept. 21, 2022) — Shakur Stevenson is two days away from the ultimate homecoming. The WBC/WBO/Ring Magazine junior lightweight king will defend his belts Friday evening against Robson Conceição (17-1, 8 KOs) at Prudential Center. Stevenson, a 2016 Olympic silver medalist, is a Newark native who is fighting at home as a world champion for the first time.
Before Stevenson and Conceição took the mic, the Mayor’s Office of the City of Newark presented Stevenson (18-0, 9 KOs) with a proclamation declaring September 21, 2022, as Shakur Stevenson Day in the city. That was followed up by special plaque from Quitman Street School students, Stevenson attended Quitman Street for elementary school, and the building sits less than a mile from Prudential Center.
In the eight-round lightweight co-feature, U.S. Olympic silver medalist Keyshawn Davis (5-0, 4 KOs) steps up in class against Omar Tienda (25-5, 18 KOs).At Wednesday’s press conference, this is what the fighters had to say.
Shakur Stevenson
“Honestly, I’m just ready to fight. I’m not really focused on the pressure. I don’t care about all that. I’m really focused on putting in the work on Friday night. I’m just ready to fight at the end of the day. All I can think about is fighting and performing. That’s everything that’s on my mind.”
“He’s a good fighter. But I think he lost against Valdez. If you left it in the judges’ hands, then you lost. I fought Valdez, and I beat the s*** out of him. I don’t have any excuses. He’s talking about having COVID or something before his last fight. All I hear are excuses. I’m ready to fight. Tell him to not have any excuses on Friday night. I’m ready to beat him up.”
“I never leave it in the hands of the judges. I go in there and take everything that I want.”
Robson Conceição
“It was very touching for me to be welcomed by my community here. Yes, I understand that Shakur is a native, but I also feel right at home here.”
“I’m very motivated. I’ve trained all my life for this moment. The world was able to see that I was better than Oscar Valdez. I should have won. So, he’s not really defending two titles because one should have been mine. I’m a champion without a crown, and I’m ready for Friday night.”
“Shakur is someone that I really respect. He’s a great athlete. I can tell that he’s young, probably overly excited and speaks a little too much. This coming Friday, there will only be one champ, and that champ is me.”
Bob Arum
“This is what it’s all about. Shakur and Robson had their first professional fights with Top Rank. Now, they’re fighting for a world title on the big stage with millions of people watching on television and throughout the world. You saw previously all these young men who are fighting on the undercard. They will soon take their place on these kinds of stages, fighting on main events. This is how boxing should be. This is why I’m still around doing it at the age of 90.”
Keyshawn Davis
“Keyshawn is going to be Keyshawn and he’s going to have fun in there. The talent that Shakur and I have is extraordinary. We both get to show our talent back to back. Just like I said last time in Las Vegas when I fought alongside him, the fans are going to be the winners at the end of the night. And that’s definitely what happened. We’re definitely looking forward to just giving the fans what they came out and paid for.”
“Is he my toughest opponent yet? I don’t know. I’m going to wait and see. I’m hoping that it’s a great fight for me so that I can keep learning and developing. I’m more than prepared for this fight both mentally and physically.”
Omar Tienda
“I’m happy to be in the co-feature of an event of his caliber. I’m excited and happy to be able to come here and do my job. What do we bring that may be different? Well, obviously experience, hard work and strength. We will also bring big surprises for the entire night.”
“You all know why I have ‘The Heroe’ as my nickname. I worked 13 years in emergency rescue, doing different kinds of rescues internationally. Not only in 2008, but in 2010, 2014 and the last one in 2016. They have been very important rescues in which lives are at risk, where we know that we have to go in there and work and where we don’t know if we’ll be returning to see our families.”
“So, for me, this is about working, enjoyment and happiness. We’ve come to score the upset and the name of ‘The Heroe’ will ring once more.”
Bruce Carrington
“Being on Top Rank boxing is the best move that I’ve ever made. I’m happy to be a part of this team. The sky is the limit, and I’m ready to continue proving myself. I just want to step into the ring and showcase my talent so that everybody can see what I’m capable of doing. Top Rank is the place to be for you to be able to showcase that.”
Jahi Tucker
“I just want to thank God for the opportunity to be here. This is a testament to all the hard work we’ve done, and this Friday we’re going to show all the hard work. This means the world to me.”

Here is what Brewart Jr. had to say about his recent training camp, his matchup with Joeshon James, fighting at home, and more.
On his recent training camp:
“A lot of hard work was put into this camp, a lot of tough sparring, and now I’m in great shape. I’ve been working on being more active, throwing more punches each round, and keeping a better pace throughout each round. The work I put into this camp will show on fight night as I’m looking to get stop my opponent before the final bell rings.”
On how his career is going progressing:
“First off, I want to thank Thompson Boxing for keeping me busy during the pandemic. This will be the third undefeated fighter I will face in my career, and I feel my name is starting to get attention in the middleweight division. I am fighting the toughest possible opponents I can, and this will be no different. I truly believe I am the best prospect in all of boxing based on my resume. This weekend I will prove it again.”
On fighting back at home:
“I love putting on great shows in-front of all the fans who show up to cheer me on. It has been five fights since I knocked someone out, so it is long overdue that I stop someone. So, what better place than back at home to break the decision streak. The goal of this camp has been simple – be the best version of myself. After I win this fight, bigger fights will come, so I want to put on a show and make a statement. I have trained for this fight like it was a 12-round world title fight.”
On his matchup with Joeshon James:
“He is a good fighter, but the type of opponents he has faced in the pros are nothing like what I have faced. He was a very good amateur, but I am a very good professional. That is a big difference, and Friday, Joeshon will see the difference in the ring.”
On what a win will do for his career:
“I am looking to enter the top-15 of the world rankings with a win. I want to face the best guys in the world, and that is why I am facing the best talent possible. I am not turning down hard fights, and beyond that – I am winning these fights. A win here puts me one step closer to recognition, and regional titles. I want both, but I really want a belt before 2023 is over.”

TAYLOR DEFENDS UNDISPUTED LIGHTWEIGHT TITLE AGAINST CARABAJAL AT THE OVO ARENA WEMBLEY ON OCTOBER 29

Katie Taylor will defend her Undisputed Lightweight World title against Karen Elizabeth Carabajal at the OVO Arena Wembley in London on Saturday October 29, live worldwide on DAZN (excluding Australia and New Zealand).
TICKETS DETAILS WILL BE RELEASE SHORTLY
Taylor (21-0, 6 KOs) cemented herself as the greatest female fighter on the planet by edging out Amanda Serrano in an epic fight for the ages on an iconic night at a sold-out Madison Square Garden in New York earlier this year.
The Irish superstar retained her Undisputed Lightweight World title after a Fight of the Year contender with Puerto Rico’s Serrano – the first women’s boxing bout to headline the famous MSG in its 140-year history.
Argentina’s Carabajal (19-0, 2 KOs) is undefeated in all 19 of her professional contests since turning over in August 2013 and the 32-year-old from Buenos Aires is a former WBC Latino, South American and Argentinian Super-Featherweight Champion, and is promoted by Argentine legend Marcos Maidana.
Chatteris’ European Featherweight Champion Jordan Gill (27-1-1, 8 KOs) puts his title on the line for the first time against Spain’s two-weight World Champion Kiko Martinez (43-11-2, 30 KOs) in a fight that also doubles up as an Eliminator for the IBF World title held by Josh Warrington.
‘The Thrill’ lived up to his nickname last time out at The O2 in February as he claimed the European title in stunning fashion by knocking out Frenchman Karim Guerfi with a blockbuster right hand in the ninth round to end an incredible contest.
Gill was knocked down in round seven before being heavily bundled to the floor by his opponent. Looking unsteady on his legs, the 28-year-old was backed up into his own corner and subject to a constant barrage from Guerfi, but he showed tremendous heart and determination pull off a massive comeback win.
Former IBF Super-Bantamweight and Featherweight World Champion Martinez returns to the UK following his loss to Warrington at the First Direct Arena in Leeds back in March. ‘La Sensacion’ stopped Kid Galahad in six rounds to become his country’s first ever two-weight ruler last year and hopes to claim another British scalp as his brilliant career draws to an end.
Emerging Belfast Super-Welterweight star Caoimhin Agyarko (12-0, 7 KOs) fights on his second Taylor undercard as he defends his WBA International title against New York’s undefeated Peter Dobson (16-0, 9 KOs) in his third fight of 2022, while Irish Lightweight contender Gary Cully (14-0, 8 KOs) fights under the Matchroom promotional banner for the first time, with his opponent to be announced soon.
Romford Heavyweight sensation Johnny Fisher (6-0, 5 KOs) brings ‘The Romford Bull Army’ to North-West London for a scheduled six-round clash with Italy’s Alfonso Damiani (5-2, 2 KOs) and there’s action for Takeley Light-Heavyweight prospect John Hedges (6-0, 2 KOs) and Luton Super-Welterweight Jordan Reynolds (3-0, 1 KO).
“It’s hard to believe it’s been almost six years since I made by pro debut there so it’s great to go back now and headline,” said Taylor. “It’s been an amazing journey so far but there are still lots of great fights out there for me and I’m excited about what’s still to come.”
“I was very happy when I received the offer to challenge Katie,” said Carabajal. “The hard work has paid off. I’m not thinking for a second about giving Katie a win. All the belts with come back to Argentina with me!”
“We will travel to London with our undefeated warrior and we will shock the boxing world,” said Maidana. “Katie Taylor will be amazed. This will be Chino Maidana Promotions and my co-promotion partner Legacy Boxing second World championship this year, it will be a huge success for us as a new company.”
“I’m delighted to see Katie back in action following her epic victory over Amanda in a historic night in New York,” said Eddie Hearn. “Katie is one of the superstars of boxing and more than that a pioneer for women’s sport, and it’s great to have her return to the arena that she made her debut in 2016. It’s always an honour to stage Katie’s fights and I have no doubt that after her fight of the year with Amanda in April, a new wave of fans will pack the Wembley Arena to see this icon perform against the tough, hungry and unbeaten Argentine.
“We have a great card in support of the main event, Jordan mixes it with the always dangerous Spanish legend Kiko, Caoimhin continues his march to major titles, Gary fights for the first time with Matchroom, Johnny brings his Bosh Army of brilliant fans back to Wembley and unbeaten talents John and Jordan take their next steps in their fledgling careers. It’s going to be a fantastic night in the capital.”
“One of boxing’s biggest stars Katie Taylor continues to cement her unrivaled legacy, and this next fight against an undefeated and determined opponent is sure to be yet another thrilling moment in her illustrious career,” said Joseph Markowski, CEO of North America at DAZN. “We look forward to broadcasting this event worldwide on DAZN as part of a year-end schedule that’s only going to get even more stacked from here.”

Newark Bound: Shakur Stevenson & Robson Conceição Touch Down in Brick City

NEWARK, N.J. (Sept. 20, 2022) — WBC/WBO/Ring Magazine junior lightweight world champion Shakur Stevenson has never fought at home as a world champion. The six letters on the front of his trunks — Newark — represents his past and immediate future.
Stevenson (18-0, 9 KOs), a 2016 Olympic silver medalist, will defend his belts against Brazilian Olympic gold medalist Robson Conceição (17-1, 8 KOs) on Friday evening at Prudential Center. He has fought at Prudential Center once before. In July 2019, he stopped Alberto Guevara in his last fight before winning the WBO featherweight world title that October.
A world championship homecoming, though, feels a little different. Stevenson kicked off fight week Tuesday afternoon at Boylan Street Recreation Center, where he met several dozen local children and was greeted by Councilwoman LaMonica McIver and other politicians from Newark and the surrounding areas. Stevenson trained at Boylan as a youngster and always makes a point to return to his roots.
Earlier that day, Conceição received a hero’s welcome at Mantena Global Care, a Newark-based nonprofit that serves the Latino community in the city. Newark’s Ironbound neighborhood is home to one of the nation’s largest Brazilian populations. Many local dignitaries, including East Ward Council Member Michael J. Silva, were on hand to support Conceição.
“I knew that Newark had a large Brazilian population, but I am humbled by the reception I have received today,” Conceição said. “I fight for my country, and I will go out there Friday night to win these titles for my people.”
