LOS ANGELES (August 11, 2022) – The next generation of Mexican boxers is developing and one of the leaders is 20-year-old super lightweight Jorge “Jorgito” Lugo Cota (8-0, 6 KOs), the latest member of Mexico’s famed fightin’ Montiel family, who will be fighting at home August 19th on the next installment of the “Canela Boxeo” series, presented by CANELA BOXEO, and World Cup Boxing Series (WCBS), led by CEO Terry Hollan and promoter/matchmaker Guy Taylor, at Centennial Sports Center in Los Mochis, Sonora, Mexico.

“Canela Boxeo” will be held and streamed live for free the third Friday evening every month, starting at 9 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. PT, in Mexico.

The 8-round co-featured event will showcase Cota against Jesus Antonio “Chino” Rubio (13-5-2, 7 KOs), the past World Boxing Association (WBA) Interim World super lightweight challenger. Cota was a standout amateur boxer who compiled a record of 155-10, to go along with numerous state and national championship gold-medal performances. Jorge’s uncle, 5-time world champion, Fernando Montiel (54,6 39 KOs), is the color analyst for “Canela Boxeo.”

“I feel very happy to fight in my city, Los Mochis, with my people and family,” Cota said. “I am ready to give a great fight for all the fans and friends. I’m not concerned about fighting in my first scheduled 8-rounder.I feel happy. It’s not something that worries me. I really want to fight and, if the fight goes the distance, I’ll be ready.

“I don’t feel pressure (as a member of the Montiel family), to the contrary, I feel well supported by one of the best teams in the world. I know if I give my best, the result will be positive. I’ve learned many things from my family: work hard – we always work hard in the gym – discipline and, above all, a winning mentality.

“Fighting on Canela.TV will be very good for me so that people throughout the United States and all of Latin America can watch me fight for free. I saw the last event they did in Hermosillo, and it looked very good. I feel very motivated to get into the ring.”

WCBS isn’t concerned about pushing Cota too fast, according to Taylor, who commented: “Jorge isn’t your typical stereotype of what a ‘Mexican fighter’ should be. He’s very elusive with great defense and countering abilities. Jorge has yet to lose a single round during his young pro career.

“I’ve always been known as an aggressive matchmaker, but this might be too aggressive, even for me. We (WCBS) have total confidence in Jorge and the Montiel family. A victory over a former world title challenger on Canela Boxeo will be a huge statement to the boxing world.”

In 2021, Rubio defeated former world-ranked challenger and United States Boxing Association (USBA) Champion Sonny Fredrickson (21-3), earning Rubio an opportunity to challenge undefeated Alberto Puello (20-0) vacant World Boxing Association (WBA) Interim Junior Welterweight World Championship, albeit in a 12-round loss by way of decision

“I don’t know too much about my opponent,” Cota added. “I know that he fought in Los Mochis last year and for a world championship, but I’m not used to seeing my opponents. I do what my family tells me to do in the ring and gym. I’m going to knock him out, probably between the fifth and seventh rounds.”

The main event will feature the first-ever world title unification fight in Costa Rica as IBF Minimumweight World Champion, Yokasta “Yoka” Valle (25-2, 9 KOs), of San Jose, Costa Rica faces off against undefeated, WBO Minimumweight World Champion Thi Thu Nhi Nguyen (5-0, 1 KOs) of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam in a 10-round world championship.

The newly announced co-main event will feature a bad-blood rematch between WBC Interim Super Flyweight title holder Sonia Osorio (15-7-2, 2 KOs)  who will defend her title against Adelaida “La Cobra” Ruiz (11-0-1, 6 KOs). The two will meet again after their first scrap in March 2021 ended in a draw when the fight was stopped at the second round after Osorio suffered a cut over her left eye due to an accidental head butt, allowing Osorio to keep the WBC interim title.

Osorio, originally from Mexico City, captured the WBC Interim Super Flyweight title in October 2019 when she outboxed Estrella Valverde and defeated her by unanimous decision. She has faced top fighters such as Seniesa Estrada and Marlen Esparza and plans to retain her title a second time against Ruiz.

“I’m very happy to once again fight against Adelaida Ruiz,” said Sonia Osorio. “It’s a fight that has been a long time in the making. Like always, I am working hard. I’m a professional, and I hope to deliver a great fight. I know it will be a great event, and I will retain my title because that’s why I have been training so hard.”

Representing Los Angeles, Ruiz’s only blemish is a technical draw against Osorio, but immediately returned to the ring with back-to-back knockout victories over Nancy Franco and Edith Flores.

“This fight means a lot to me,” said Adelaida Ruiz. “I’ve wanted this fight for more than a year. I felt like they took the title away from me when I fought her in Mexico, but God has given me another opportunity to fight for the title. It’s a big step forward in my career, and I’m willing to sacrifice everything to win. We are training very hard for this fight. Sonia will see a different ‘Cobra,’ both mentally and physically.”

Opening the televised card, Pico Rivera, CA’s Angel “El Moreno” Rodriguez (11-1, 8 KOs) will battle Monterrey, Mex.’s Ivan Delgado (5-0, 3 KOs) in a 6-round lightweight match. Also featured on the card is Long Beach, CA’s Raul “Money” Solomon (11-1, 9 KOs) in a 6-round super middleweight fight and Tijuana, Mex.’s Jose Garcia (15-1-1, 14 KOs) who will participate in an 8-round super lightweight fight. Kickstarting fight night, Mexico City’s Anabel “Avispa” Ortiz (31-5, 4 KOs) will be looking to redeem her record after suffering a loss to Marlen Esparza last December. A two-time mini flyweight world champion, Ortiz held the WBA title from 2013 to 2021 and the WBC title from 2009 to 2011. Katie Taylor has blasted Jake Paul’s suggestion that the rematch of the mega Madison Square Garden showdown with Amanda Serrano should be at 126lbs or a 130lbs catchweight.

Taylor (21-0, 6 KO’s), who edged out Serrano back in April to retain her Lightweight crown in an epic fight for the ages, spoke on Matchroom Boxing’s new podcast Flash Knockdown and stood firm that the rematch will only happen at Lightweight.

“What is that about?”, said Taylor. I’ve never heard such nonsense in all my life. I’ve never heard someone say something as stupid as that to be quite honest. I think they’re just trying to play a few games. I’m pretty sure Jake knows I’m not going to get down to 126, I don’t think I’ve ever heard of a situation in boxing where the champion wins but has the rematch in a lower weight division. It is real nonsense! I don’t know if he’s playing games or it is naivety but the rematch is going to be at 135lbs.

“I don’t think Amanda’s recent fight falling through will delay or effect the rematch. I was hoping for the rematch to happen straight after the last fight but it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen until next year now. 

“I just want to be involved in the biggest fights possible but I’m not sure who I’m going to be fighting next right now but I’m planning on returning to the ring this year in November / December. The team have been talking to the likes of Cris Cyborg. I only had two or three days off after the Serrano fight so I’m just itching to get back in the ring!”

As well as speaking about the Serrano rematch, Taylor also reflected on the first fight with her Puerto Rican dance parter and her memories of the London Games, admitting the whole experience in New York surpassed the emotions she felt when she captured Olympic Gold ten years ago this week.

“I never thought anything would surpass the London Olympics but I think that night at Madison Square Garden did surpass it! It was definitely the most special experience of my career to date. The atmosphere between the Irish and the Puerto Rican fans was incredible, you couldn’t even hear the bell ringing! It was history making and a huge moment for the sport.

“In big fights there is always the possibility that you’re going to get hurt at some stage but that’s where all the training and preparation comes into play. I put myself in the trenches everyday and that’s what allows you to show your heart and your courage in the ring. I’m just glad I was able to get through those tough moments in the fifth round and then come on stronger as the fight went on.

“Thinking about the Olympics, it does and it doesn’t feel ten years ago. I can definitely remember the day as if it was yesterday but a lot has happened in those ten years. It was my childhood dream coming to pass, I was going into the competition with so much pressure on me and the weight of the nation on my shoulders. When I won gold it was just a feeling of relief more than anything!

“I remember putting on my Olympic kit and thinking how I’d dreamt of this moment. Looking at the Olympic Rings on my shorts and knowing I was about to walk out to represent my country at the Games, it was so special.

“Everyone in Ireland assumed I was going to win gold, I don’t think I slept for a second the night before the final! I don’t think anything will ever compare to the pressure I felt at the Olympic Games. If I got through those games, I can get through anything in life! When I started boxing at ten years old there was no real such thing as women’s boxing but now at home in Ireland when you see all the young girls in the gyms, that means everything to me.

Shinard Bunch, who was originally slated to take on Argentina’s Roldan (21-0-1, 7 KOs) in the main event, was forced to withdraw for personal reasons. Adorno (16-1-2, 14 KOs), who owns two early victories over current unified super featherweight champion Shakur Stevenson in the amateurs, will fight for the fourth time this year and third-straight at super lightweight after campaigning mostly at lightweight throughout his career.

The main event will feature rising lightweight star, Ruben “Ace” Torres (18-0, 15 KOs), from South Central Los Angeles, who will put it all on the line against equally heavy-handed and knockout artist, Cristian “Guarico” Baez (18-1, 17 KOs) from San Juan de Los Morros, Venezuela. Torres vs. Baez is a 10-round bout that will headline the properly dubbed “Path To Glory” event.

Tickets priced at $50, $75, $100 & $125, will only be available for purchase at the door the day of the event, which will take place at the Omega Products International Event Center in Corona, CA. Doors open at 6:30 pm PT with the first fight starting at 8:00 pm PT.

Rounding up the non-stop action with an 8-round special attraction will be a clash of Southern California undefeated lightweights, Pedro Valencia (10-0, 7 KOs) from Pacoima, Calif., will face Adrian “Bam Bam” Corona (9-0-1, 2 KO’s), from nearby Rialto, Calif.

While attending Synergy Alternative High School in East Hartford, Connecticut, a young Richie Rivera was joking around with friends when they called him “Popeye” for the first time. Created in 1929, a corncob pipe and sailor hat remain the trademark of the beloved character, Popeye the Sailor Man, in his quest to protect Olive Oil from the treacherous grasps of Bluto. Boston Boxing Promotions returns this Saturday, August 13, 2022, with a night of professional boxing at the legendary Memorial Hall in Melrose, Massachusetts.

In the main event, Chelmsford, MA’s Brandon Higgins (8-2, 5 KOs) will take on Fall River, MA’s Dustin Reinhold (7-5, 3 KO’s) in a six-round welterweight contest. The bout will be a rematch of their first encounter last November in Windham, NH. The all action fight, which Higgins won by majority decision, was a candidate for New England’s 2021 Fight of the Year.

Boston’s Carlos Gongora (20-1, 15 KOs), the former IBO Super Middleweight Champion of the world will face battle tested Oscar Riojas (28-15-1, 16 KOs) of Laredo, TX in an eight-round super middleweight contest. Gongora is currently ranked #9 in the world and is looking to make a statement to secure another world title opportunity.

Salem, MA’s Kenny Larson (4-0, 4 KOs) will meet Berwick, ME’s Ryan Clark (2-1, 1 KO) in a six-round welterweight bout. Larson has stopped all four of his previous opponents in impressive fashion since making his professional debut last November. Clark will look to bounce back from the first loss of his career last April.

Local favorite, Nicky Tejada (1-0, 1 KO) of Haverhill, MA makes his home-state pro debut against Portland, ME’s Carl Langston (0-0). Tejada won his pro debut earlier this summer in Verona, NY on a card that was part of International Boxing Hall of Fame Induction Weekend. Langston is a longtime veteran of the New England mixed-martial-arts and kickboxing circuit and will be making his boxing debut.

In a bout with international flavor, undefeated prospect Juan Carrillo (7-0, 5 KOs) of Baranquilla, Columbia is scheduled to take on Victor Fonseca (18-11-1, 14 KOs) of Tijuana, Mexico in an eight-round light heavyweight encounter.

Also featured on the card will be a pair of fighters from the boxing hotbed of Oxnard, California.

Hanover, MD (August 9, 2022) –Streaking super featherweight, Jordan White won his 10th straight fight as he retained the WBC USNBC title with a 10-round unanimous decision over Derrick Murray in front of another Jeter Promotions sold out crowd at The Hall inside Live Casino & Hotel in Hanover, Maryland.

The fight topped an action-packed eight-bout card.

“This was an incredible card. I had so many fans tell me that this was the best card they have attended. These are fans who have been to a lot of cards, so that shows you the quality of fights that were on this show,” said Tony Jeter, who along with his wife Christen, formulate Jeter Promotions.

White of Washington, DC made the first defense of his title by scores of 100-88, 97-91 and 95-93 to raise his mark to 14-1. Murray of Saint Louis, Missouri is 16-6-1.

In the co-feature, Demond Nicholson scored a third-round stoppage over Christopher Brooker in a scheduled 10-round super middleweight bout.

The end came at 2:24 of round three for the Laurel, Maryland native, Nicholson, who is now 26-4-1- with 22 knockouts. Brooker of Philadelphia is 16-12.

Jeter Promotions signee, Mansaborie Conde remained undefeated with a fourth round stoppage over Jonathan Burrs in a scheduled four-round middleweight bout.

Conde of Laurel, Maryland is 6-0 with five knockouts. Burrs of Frederick, Maryland is 4-6.

In a battle of pro debuting light heavyweights, Vincent Mosco won a four-round unanimous decision over Keynan Williams.

Scores were 40-36 twice and 39-37 for Mosca of Nottingham, Maryland. Williams is from Winchester, Virginia.

Jeter Promotions signee Victor Williams remained perfect with a first-round stoppage over Kareem Gladney.

The time of the stoppage was 1:52 for Williams of Washington, DC, who is now 4-0 with four knockouts. Gladney of Philadelphia is 0-6.

Jeter Promotions fighter Brandon Chambers made the first defense of the ABF USA Featherweight title with a third round stoppage over TayShawn Autry in a scheduled six-round bout.

The time of the stoppage was 37 seconds for Chambers of Gwynn Oak, Maryland, who upped his undefeated mark to 8-0-1 with five knockouts. Autry of Brooklyn, New York is 4-10.

Jaqeem Hutcherson won a six-round unanimous decision over Printice Canada in a super bantamweight fight.

OMAR FIGUEROA JR.

“We grew up kind of poor coming from the Valley. San Antonio was the biggest city that we could get to and enjoy. For us, this was like the maximum. So being able to camp here being so close to home has been a game changer. Obviously, I have my family here as well. I won’t say everything in this camp has gone perfect, because perfection is so hard to acquire, but everything has gone pretty close to perfect. We’re excited.

“I’m just worried about this fight. I’m not looking at anything else. I don’t know how I’m going to feel, physically and mentally. So much has changed in the past year. I’ve gone through so much since I was diagnosed regarding my mental health. It’s been tough. I’ve been doing this for 27 years now. So, I’m really looking forward to this fight.

“The biggest thing for me the past few years has been my mental health diagnosis. After my last fight, I knew there was something wrong. We did everything we needed to do in camp, we prepared right to make sure we were 100%. Everything went wrong in that fight. I started questioning myself and wondering why the heck everything went so bad. I spoke to my doctor and then I was diagnosed with all these mental health issues and that’s when I realized maybe the problem was me all along. I’ve been working on myself so much. I’m just grateful to SHOWTIME and my team and we’re excited to show how far we’ve come.

“Growing up in the Mexican culture, it’s a lot of ‘All, it’s all in your head. It doesn’t really exist.’ So, I had to look into it alone. I didn’t have the support of my family when it came to that. Even now, they still kind of struggle to see that. I feel it’s very taboo to a lot of people. Thankfully, I’m in a position where, having the platform I have, I’m able to shed some light on it and show that we’re all just human. Us boxers may look like we’re invincible, getting punched and cut and fighting through it, but we’re human at the end of the day. I finally took a break and looked inward and started taking care of myself, accepting the fact that I’m human, that I hurt, that I can get anxiety and depressed.

“This camp has shed some light on being vulnerable and how much it helps to allow myself to be human. Now, I talk to my family differently. If I’m having a tough day before I get here to the gym, I’ll talk to my mom or my sister. Or when I’m feeling low, we’ll just embrace. I tell them how much I love them, how much I appreciate them for being here for me. Honestly, being human is one of the best things I decided to do.

“Broner is one of the biggest names in boxing. He likes to put himself out there. He’s also a great example of why mental health should be addressed. He’s kind of out there where, sometimes he’s a little bit crazy and other times he repents for being a little bit crazy. Like I said, we’re humans. That’s one of the things I hope he looks at and tries to help himself when it comes to that.

“Honestly, there was a time when I was a little bit jealous of Broner. He had such an amazing career and, like me, things got to us. As we all know, things haven’t gone the smoothest for us. So, I’m getting the word out about mental health, doing more to bring it to the mainstream and I’m glad my opponent is Adrien Broner because he’s a great advocate for that too. I feel he can make a huge difference if he sheds a little bit of light on it. Other than that, this is a great opportunity and I know it’s going to be a hell of a fight.

“I don’t watch his stuff online and see what he’s doing. Even if he does start trash talking, it’s all part of the show. He’s been through his share of struggles and I can say I honestly respect Adrien Broner.

“I’m not sure what kind of dance partner I’ll see. This is going to be a great fight for the fans of the sport and I’m just hoping to make it a great fight.”

“Both of these guys are going to bring everything to the table. I think it’s their time to shine, their time to showcase their skills and really make a statement. “It’s going to be a great fight. There will definitely be fireworks. I know my brother is going to bring the pressure on Broner. Broner is quick, fast and slick so my brother has to keep that pressure on him, work the body and do the effective work that Marcos Maidana did when he beat Broner. Obviously, it’s not similar styles, but if he follows that game plan I believe it will work.”

“Preparation is going well. His training has been good, sparring is good, injury-free up to now. We’re hoping he’s at 100% going into this fight.

“Omar is an offensive-minded fighter. That’s his defense. So, we’re working on conditioning for this fight. Omar is 32. He’s feeling the age a bit. That’s why you take advantage of your youth in this sport. But with Broner, that is a pretty even fight. We’re looking to win this fight and see what’s next.

“Broner is a great fighter. He derailed a bit, but he’s back on track. He and Omar took different paths and now they’re back on it. I take nothing away from Broner. He looked a little overweight from what I saw, but maybe he knows how to cut weight getting close to the fight.”

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. (August 7, 2022) – Popular junior welterweight Mike “Bad Man” Ohan turned in a workmanlike performance in last night’s “The Next Chapter,” presented by Granite Chin Promotions, on a very hot ,humid evening at Bridgewater Veterans Club in Bridgewater, Massachusetts.

Ohan (16-1, 9 KOs),the former New England Welterweight Champion, kept fans from his nearby hometown of Holbrook happy, taking a 6-round, majority decision from his Argentinian foe, Jonathan “Yoni” Ariel Sosa (7-14-2, 4 KOs).

Ohan buzzed Sosa with a left hook early in the fight, found his rhythm and closed the opening round on a strong note, hurting his opponent during an exchange with a snapping right. Ohan pushed the pace in the second, throwing crisp combinations, effectively countering as well.

In the third, Sosa came out more aggressively, keeping Ohan off balance, but Ohan soon regained control. Ohan used his jab more in the fourth and two rights to the head and two lefts to the body put Ohan back in total control.

In total command, Ohan cruised in the fifth and pressed the action the sixth against a game Sosa, who kept coming back every time he looked like the fight was about to be over, right to the final bell.

“He (Sosa) is a tough journeyman,” Ohan said after the fight. “He’s gone the distance with some good guys. It was a good fight and now we move on to the next one. I’ll talk to Chris (promoter Traietti) and see what’s next.”

In the co-featured event, New Bedford (MA) light heavyweight Edet “Papito” Mkpanam (8-0, 7 KOs) remained undefeated, knocking out Larry “Slo Mo” Smith (13-51-2, 9 KOs) in the third round with a vicious right to the head. Referee Jackie Morrel immediately waved off the fight as soon as Smith hit the canvas.

Mkpanam had nearly put Smith to sleep early in the second round with a left hook that put Smith on his back. The resilient Smith, however, beat the count and continued against his heavy-handed opponent.

The scheduled co-feature for the vacant Massachusetts Middleweight Championship between Julien “Black Dragon” Baptiste (4-2, 2 KOs) and Anthony “The Gentle Savage” Andreozzi (3-2, 1 KO) was canceled midway through the show because Andreozzi became ill in the locker room.

“It was another great show,” Granite State Promotions president Chris Traietti commented. “The Vets Club draws real boxing fans. Everyone stepped up, the hometown guys as well as the out-of-town fighters. Ohan fought an experienced guy and got in some quality rounds. I’m excited about his future.”

Explosive junior middleweight Luke Iannuccillo (3-0, 2 KOs), of Methuen (MA), pounded cagey Las Vegas fighter Rynell Griffin (80-54-2, 2 KOs) from the opening bell, at one point landing 24 unanswered punches when he pinned Griffin on the ropes. Iannuccillo’s dominance lasted right to the end for a shutout, winning all four rounds on each of the three judges’ scorecards.

Brockton’s (MA) David “The Blessed One” Ribeiro (1-0-1, 1 KO) and Rhode Island junior middleweight Alfred “Keenan” Raymond (1-2-1 (0 KOs) fought to a 4-round draw. Riberio, a 20202 New England Golden Gloves champion, started cautiously and fought tentatively for the first two rounds, but he let his go much more in the third, effectively countering the awkward fighting Raymond. It wasn’t enough in the end, though, to pull out a win for the local favorite.

In the opening bout, Brockton heavyweight Kirk Wilmart (1-0, 1 KOs) had an impressive pro debut, flooring Wewerton Silveira Silva (0-4) three times, the last signalling the end as the fight was stopped late in round one.

PLANT CITY, Florida (August 4, 2022): ProBox TV’s “Last Chance Tournament” 140 lb. semi-finals from at the ProBox Events Center in Plant City, Florida (suburb of Tampa) are complete. 

The victors – Antonio “Toño” Moran from Mexico City, Mexico and Kendo “Tremendo” Castaneda from San Antonio, Texas – will battle in ProBox TV’s Last Chance Tournament Championship on Friday, November 4.

The first semi-final was a back and forth fight and very close to call. Paul Malignaggi, Antonio Tarver and Roy Jones Jr. called it from ringside. Prior to the scores, it was announced that if the fight was a draw, they would fight one more round!

Turns out, Kendo “Tremendous” Castaneda (19-5, 9 KOS) won 96-94 over Joseph Fernandez (15-5, 3 KOS) on all three of the judges cards. Malignaggi called it a Fight of the Year candidate, saying “I can’t believe neither fighter went down in round nine.” In round nine, Kendo was hurt with a straight left, then later in the round, connected with a right hook that hurt Fernandez real bad. Fernandez struggled to stay on his feet and barely made it to the end of the round.

“Before the fight I knew it was going to be a tough fight – he was looking at me with eyes of fire,” said Castaneda. “After the 6th round I went back to my corner and I was exhausted and they said ‘you’ve got to keep pushing.’ In the ninth round, I knew I hit him with a good shot and he wobbled but he made it to the end. It feels great to get the wind. It makes me believe that the hard with I am putting in, in my life, does not go unnoticed. Keep pushing and keep working harder. Any fight can turn in your favor. Now of course I will stay and watch the next fight so I can see who I will fight for that $50,000 Check!”

The second semi-final and main event of the evening was a little more one-sided with Antonio Moran (28-5-1, 19 KOs) controlling the pace. He was hitting Michael Dutchover (16-3, 10 KOs) with body shots and combinations. Dutchover attempted throughout the fight to get inside, but seemed frustrated as Moran kept his distance as needed, fighting as Malignaggi said “in a middle range.” The final scores were 99-91 and 100-90 two times.

Sometimes it would get very complicated for me. I couldn’t just throw combinations because he would get too close and it made me feel a little off. One of the things I said from the time I saw him that we were going to meet in the final. I know now that I have to work on my conditioning. I am going to have to work real hard to take that final. This tournament is a great opportunity. It is a second chance for me to not only win this tournament but there will be doors that will open afterwards. Hard work brings opportunity.”

Vergil Ortiz Jr. came off almost a year layoff to keep his perfect knockout streak intact as he stopped Michael McKinson in round nine of their welterweight bout at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.

In round one, Ortiz was cut around the left eye from an accidental headbutt

In round eight, Ortiz landed a hard left hook to the body that dropped McKinson  In the opening seconds of round nine, Ortiz landed a big left to the body.  McKinson was hurt and the corner waved the towel and the fight was stopped at 27 seconds.

Ortiz, 146.6 lbs of Grand Prairie, Texas is 19-0 with 19 knockouts.  McKinson, 146.8 lbs of Portsmouth, ENG is 22-1.

Marlen Esparza Decisions Guzman; Retains Flyweight Titles

Marlen Esparza defended WBA/WBC Flyweight titles with a 10-round unanimous decision over Eva Guzman.

In round six, Esparza was cut on the side of her left eye. Esparza was very pinpoint on her punches and won by scores of 98-92 twice and 99-91.

Esparza, 111.8 lbs of Houston, Texas is 13-1.  Guzman, 109 lbs of Marcay, VEN is 19-2.

Blair Cobbs Drops Hooker 3 times; Wins Decision

Blair Cobbs won a 10-round unanimous decision over former world champion Maurice Hooker in a welterweight bout.

In round one, Cobbs dropped Hooker with a huge three-punch combination that was highlighted overhand right. In round two, Cobbs dumped Hooker again with hard straight left.  Late in the round, it was another straight left that put Hooker down again,

In round six, Cobbs was cut around the right eye from an accidental headbutt.

Cobbs, 146 lbs of Philadelphia, PA won by scores of 97-90 twice and 96-91 and is now 16-1-1.  Hooker who came in over the contracted weight, weighed in at 150 lbs and Dallas, Texas native is now 27-3-3.

“This wasn’t an easy fight, it was a tougher fight than my last one, and this victory for sure has put me in the top ten rankings,” said Blair Cobbs. “I fought a tougher, heavier fighter. He could box and had an extremely long reach, but today I showed that I can go into deep waters, box, and give fans a show. I want to thank god for this performance, there is nothing stronger and greater than god. Today, I showed that I have more to give to the sport of boxing, that even through adversity Blair ‘The Flair’ will come out on top.” 

Melikuziev stops Janjanin in 3

Hard punching Bektemir Melikuziev stopped Sladan Janjanin in round three of a scheduled 10-round light heavyweight bout

In the first 30 seconds, Melikuziev landed a vicious left to the body that put Janjanin down in a lot of pain. In round two, Melikuziev landed some hard shots to the head that sent Janjanin down for a second time.  In round three, it was another vicious left to the body that sent Janjanin to the deck.  The fight was finally stopped when Melikuziev continued to land thudding punches and the fight ended at 2:18.

Melikuziev, 171 lbs of Indio, CA is 10-1 with eight knockouts.  Janjanin, 168 lbs of Boston, MA is 32-13.

“I didn’t know my opponent until recently so we trained to have a good camp and a preparation,” said Bektemir Melikuziev. “After I dropped him with the body shot I was hoping he would keep going, we didn’t come here to end it one punch. We want to make sure we get some rounds in to gain some experience. But he was an awkward fighter, very uncomfortable but I think my training really showed off today.” 

19 year-old Floyd Schofield remained undefeated by taking out Rodrigo Guerrero in round six of their eight-round lightweight bout.

In round three, Schofield landed a right hand that put Guerrero on the canvas for a knockdown. Schofield dropped Guerrero for a second time in round four, and the bout was stopped after round five. The official time was 10 seconds of round six.

Schofield, 133.8 lbs from Austin, TX is now 11-0 with nine knockouts. Guerrero, 134.6 lbs of Mexico City, MEX is 26-15-2.

Alex Martin brushed himself from a first round knockdown to win a 10-round unanimous decision over former world title challenger Hank Lundy in a junior welterweight bout.

In round one, Lundy dropped Martin with an overhand left.

Martin, 140 lbs of Chicago, IL won by scores of 98-91 and 97-92 twice and is now 18-4. Lundy, 138.4 lbs of Philadelphia, PA is 31-11-1.

Carlos Nava remained undefeated with a fourth round stoppage over Rodolfo Hernandez in a scheduled eight-round super lightweight bout.

In round two, Nava dropped Ramirez with a big right hand. In round four, Nava delivered punishment and landed a flurry of punches and the bout was stopped at 36 seconds.

Nava, 138.8 lbs of Pasadena, TX is 9-0 with six knockouts. Hernandez, 135 lbs of Mexico City is 30-11-1.

Figo Ramirez won a four-round unanimous decision over Francisco Bonilla in a bantamweight contest.

In round two, Ramirez was deducted a point for a low blow.

Ramirez, 117.4 lbs of Dallas, TX won by scores of 39-36 on all cards and is now 2-0. Bonilla, 117 lbs of Chihuahua, MEX is now 6-14-3.

Rohan Polanco stopped Dedrick Bell in round two of their eight-round welterweight bout.

Polanco landed a devastating left to the Solar Plexus that sent Bell down for the count.

Polanco, 147 lbs of Santo Domingo, DR is now 8-0 with five knockouts. Bell, 146.8 lbs of Memphis, TN is 31-33-1.
