Thomas O’Toole & Russ Kimber battle for Vacant Mass. Light Heavyweight Title

QUINCY, Mass. (April 4, 2024)  – Undefeated Irish boxer Thomas “The Kid” O’Toole (9-0, 6 KOs) will take on dangerous Russell Kimber (2-1, 1 KO) in a six-round bout on May 4th for the vacant Massachusetts Light Heavyweight title as part of a stacked “Rumble At The Rink” regional card, presented by Granite Chin Promotions (GCP), at Quincy Youth Arena in Quincy, Massachusetts.

“What a compliment this fight is to our inaugural ‘Granite Chin Box Off’’,” GCP president Chris Traietti commented. “The plan with this show from the start was to stack it from the opening fight to the final of the tournament with fighters people want to see in fights people want to see them in, and this fight is the epitome of that. Thomas has been a fixture the last few years in the local boxing scene, and he is taking on a guy in Kimber who is no slouch. Kimber is the type of guy that if you take him lightly you are in for a bad night. Thomas comes from a solid amateur background and a great gym, so I don’t think he is going to make that error, but everyone in the building would be foolish to sleep on Russell Kimber. This is going to be a great co-feature!”

Now fighting out of Boston suburb Braintree (MA), the 26-year-old native of Galway (IRE) has been fighting in his second home of Boston for the past year, capturing the USBF Atlantic light heavyweight title last August, also in Quincy on a GCP card, with an opening round stoppage of Scott Lampert.

A celebrated Irish amateur boxer, who was the 2019 Irish National, is coming off a homecoming victory this past March 16th in Galway, in which he won all eight rounds against Hussein Itaba (16-7-3, 11 KOs).

“I want to add this Massachusetts title and keep pushing,” the stylish southpaw said. “The plan is to have two big fights after this fight. He (Kimber) doesn’t have too many fights, but he has sparred with some of my mates. He’s pretty game and will fight coming forward, and that’s good for me.

“My fight in Galway was amazing, the best of my life, because it was my homecoming. But the Irish here have come out to support me and Boston is my second home. I had a great coach and good boxers in Galway, but I knew I needed to make a bit of a change. You can’t get good sparring there like I can here. So, I moved.”

O’Toole is grateful that he hooked up with his head trainer, Mark “Bazooka” DeLuca, who has a 30-4 (18 KOs) pro record as middleweight.

“I’m so happy I made the link with Mark DeLuca,” O’Toole noted. “I don’t think a lot of people know how good a coach he is. I have more of a pro style than I had before he started training me. He has shown me how to use range and stay composed. Mark has really developed me to control the ring and improve my ringmanship.”

Kimber (2-1, 1 KO), fighting out of Peabody (MA), has fighting in his blood. His father, Dick and uncle Tommy, respectively, were three and five-time world kickboxing champions. Russ owns Kimber Fitness, which was in Peabody and is relocating soon to nearby Salem (MA).

Kimber made his pro debut in 2017, taking a decision from Nathan Schulte, but he’s only fought twice since then, due to COVID-19 restrictions and several fights that failed to materialize.

“I’m always training but I couldn’t get any fights,” Kimber explained. “I kept my weight down and took a fight last April in Florida against an undefeated local fighter (3-0 Mike Misa). After the fight, my opponent even said that the fight shouldn’t have been stopped, because I was blocking his punches. I really shouldn’t have lost that fight, but it was in Florida against a local fighter.”

“Fighting for the Massachusetts title is great. I don’t think he (O’Toole) fully understands what’s coming. I think a win will open up doors for me because I’ll be 3-1 and have a title. I’ve seen a few Granite Chin fighters with only six or seven fights getting the opportunity to fight at places like Madison Square Garden. I took this fight, and we’ll see what happens.”

The headliner is an innovative one-night tournament, “Granite Chin Box Off,” featuring a quartet of New England super middleweight fighters – Lynn’s (MA) James “Pitbull” Perkins (13-1-1, 9 KOs), Swansea’s (MA) Anthony “The Gentle Savage” Andreozzi (5-3, 2 KOs), Dorchester’s (MA) Bernard Joseph (6-1, 4 KOs), and Barrington’s (ME) Ryan Clark (4-5, 2 KOs) – who will  be matched (in a blind draw at the weigh in) in three-round bouts (4th round of sudden death if needed in case of a draw) early in the evening with the two winners advancing to the five-round main event (6th round of sudden death in the event of a draw) to determine the inaugural champion.

Additional matches will soon be announced.

Card subject to change.

Tickets are on sale to purchase at www.granite-chin-promotions.ticketleap.com.

Doors open at 6:00 p.m. ET, first bout at 7 p.m. ET.

Jared Anderson: “I Have A Better IQ than Ryad Merhy!”

HOUSTON, Texas (April 4, 2024) — Unbeaten heavyweight phenom Jared “The Real Big Baby” Anderson is gearing up to deliver another spectacle.

Anderson, the fighting pride of Toledo, Ohio, will step up in class to face Belgian contender Ryad Merhy on Saturday, April 13, at American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, Texas.

In the 10-round heavyweight co-feature, Nigerian puncher Efe Ajagba (19-1, 14 KOs) and Italian standout Guido “The Gladiator” Vianello (12-1-1, 10 KOs) will collide in a duel of 2016 Olympians.

The eight-round televised opener features three-time world title challenger Robson Conceicao (17-2-1, 8 KOs) against the upset-minded Jose Guardado (15-1-1, 5 KOs).

Promoted by Top Rank, tickets are on sale now via Ticketmaster.com

Anderson-Merhy, Ajagba-Vianello, and Conceição-Guardado will be broadcast LIVE on ESPN, ESPN Deportes & ESPN+ at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT.

Anderson (16-0, 15 KOs) is coming off an impressive 2023, where he notched three victories with two knockouts. In April, he brought George Arias’ undefeated run to an end, dismantling the slick Dominican in only three rounds. Less than three months later, Anderson celebrated his triumphant return to Toledo, squaring off against former world titleholder Charles Martin in front of over 7,000 hometown fans and earning a 10-round unanimous decision. The 24-year-old carried that momentum into Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he dispatched Andriy Rudenko in five rounds in August. Merhy (32-2, 26 KOs) makes his U.S. debut following his best win yet, a December victory over hometown hero and Olympic gold medalist Tony Yoka in Paris.

Following a recent training session in Houston, this is what Anderson had to say:

“I feel like my career is going in the right direction. The only way is up. But I’m still working like it’s my first day. We’re on the job, so make sure you all stay with the journey. Stay with me.”

“I have a better IQ than Merhy. You have to have a high IQ to do this. I have one of the best IQs in the heavyweight division. So, make sure you watch the little things. Make sure you watch for the details.”

“He’s got a beating coming. I always come to entertain. Don’t miss it.”

Undefeated Super Middleweight Angel Chavez Looks to Remain Undefeated in First 8-Round Bout

LAS VEGAS, NV (April 4, 2024) – Rising super middleweight Angle Chavez (9-0, 7 KOs), hailing from Salinas, CA, and currently honing his skills under the guidance of respected boxing coach Bob Santos in Las Vegas, is poised for his most significant challenge yet as he prepares to step into the ring tomorrow night for his first 8-round bout.

Chavez’s upcoming bout on April 5, 2024, will see him face off against Khainell Wheeler (7-4, 6 KOs) of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, in what promises to be a thrilling showdown at the Wind Creek Events Center in Wheeler’s hometown, on event promoted by King’s Promotions

Despite the prospect of fighting in enemy territory, Chavez remains undaunted, stating, “I don’t mind going into Wheeler’s backyard. I’m ready to put on a show for the fans, and I’m confident in my abilities to come out victorious. I’m a throwback fighter who will fight anyone, anywhere. I’m looking forward to giving this man and “L” in front of his people, and I say that respectfully.”

Coach Bob Santos, renowned for his ability to nurture boxing talents, expressed his belief in Chavez’s potential, envisioning him as the next big star in the super middleweight division.

“Angle Chavez has all the makings of a future champion,” Santos remarked. “He has a big frame for a Mexican, which is rare in this sport, and his dedication, skill set, and determination set him apart. He has the potential to follow in the footsteps of current greats like David Benavidez and David Morrell Jr.

Chavez’s journey to stardom continues to gain momentum, with each bout serving as a steppingstone towards his ultimate goal of becoming a world champion. With the guidance of Coach Santos, and the support from his promoter Amaury Piedra, of Boxlab Promotions, Chavez is prepared to make a significant impact in the super middleweight division.

LAUREN PRICE MBE’S WORLD TITLE FIGHT FREE AND AVAILABLE TO ALL IN WALES FOLLOWING RIGHTS DEAL BETWEEN BOXXER, SKY SPORTS AND BBC WALES

CARDIFF, UK (April 4, 2024) – Lauren Price MBE’s World Welterweight Title fight against Jessica McCaskill will be free and available to all viewers in Wales following a rights deal between BOXXER, Sky Sports and BBC Wales.

Price challenges American champion McCaskill for the WBA, IBO and Ring Magazine World Welterweight Titles on Saturday, May 11th at the Utilita Arena Cardiff as part of a huge night of boxing in the Welsh capital.

Viewers in Wales will now be able to watch all the action live and free-to-air on BBC Wales as part of a simulcast agreement with Sky Sports, the UK’s biggest live sport platform, who will be broadcasting throughout the UK and Ireland.

History maker Price, the first Welsh boxer to win Olympic gold, has the chance to write her name in the record books again by becoming the country’s first female world champion.

The 29-year-old from Ystrad Mynach is yet to lose a round in the professional ranks but will face her toughest career test when she attempts to dethrone current welterweight ruler McCaskill.

McCaskill is a two-weight world champion, who unified the WBA and WBC World Super Lightweight Titles before moving up in weight to end Cecilia Brækhus’ decade long reign at the top of the welterweight division.

Lauren Price MBE said: “I think it’s incredible to have the support and backing of BBC Wales and Sky Sports together. When I boxed over in Tokyo for the Olympic Games, the pinnacle of my amateur career, it was covered by the BBC, and now at the pinnacle of my professional career, they’ll be covering my world title fight too, which is brilliant. I’d like to just say a huge thank you to BOXXER, Sky Sports and BBC Wales for coming together and backing me during my journey to become world champion.”

Carolyn Hitt, BBC Wales’ Head of Sport, said: “Wales has a long and proud boxing history and Lauren is already an icon, achieving every accolade – including Olympic gold – as an amateur. Now as a professional, she can hopefully make history again in Cardiff in May. We are extremely proud to be able to bring viewers in Wales the opportunity to witness this huge fight free-to-air, in partnership with BOXXER and Sky Sports.”

Ben Shalom, Founder and CEO of BOXXER, said: “We’re delighted that together with Sky Sports we are able to partner with BBC Wales for this historic event. Lauren Price is already a star in the sport and one of the most talented and decorated athletes Wales has ever produced. At BOXXER we are committed to growing boxing to new audiences and making it more accessible. We’re excited that everyone in Wales will now have the opportunity to watch Lauren’s crowning moment.”

Rob Selmes, Sky Sports Director of Rights, said: “Sky Sports are committed to bringing the biggest sporting moments to sports fans and understand the connection that people feel towards their homegrown talent. That’s why we’re pleased to join forces with BOXXER and BBC Wales to make sure that people in Wales can get behind Lauren Price MBE in her landmark World Title fight against Jessica McCaskill and witness potential history in the making for their local girl.”

Lauren Price MBE challenges Jessica McCaskill for the WBA, IBO and Ring Magazine World Welterweight Titles on Saturday, May 11th at the Utilita Arena Cardiff. All the action is available to watch live on Sky Sports in the UK and Ireland, and live and free-to-air on BBC Wales in Wales.

This event is presented in association with official partners bet365, Everlast and Integritas Property Group.

YAFAI: I’M GAINING THE EXPERIENCE TO BEAT THE TOP BOYS

Galal Yafai believes that he’s banking the experience needed to rip the World titles from the champions, and that continues on Saturday when he defends his WBC International Flyweight title against Agustin Mauro Gauto at BleauLive Theater at Fontainebleau Las Vegas, live worldwide on DAZN.

TICKETS ARE ON SALE NOW VIA TICKETMASTER

Yafai (6-0 4 KOs) won the title he puts on the line in Sin City on his professional debut in February 2022 in London, six months after winning Olympic gold for Britain at the Tokyo games.

The Birmingham man has cruised to 6-0 in the paid ranks and successfully defended his International strap four times to date. Those wins have led the 31 year old to be handily positioned at #7 in the WBC rankings, the same spot he occupies with the WBO and IBF.

Jesse Rodriguez has vacated the world titles with the latter two organizations, piquing the interest of those contenders that are well placed in the rankings, and that means that Yafai has yet more incentive to perform to his best against Gauto (21-1 15 KOs) as he looks to perfectly time honing his ring craft for when his World title shot arrives.

“The pro game is different, longer rounds and the gloves are smaller, but it’s boxing to me,” said Yafai. “I’ve just got to get through them all and get to the top as quickly as I can because people aren’t patient, and I’m a bit impatient too.

“Rankings don’t really matter to me in the long run. No-one is going to say to me ‘Galal, you were ranked top five in the WBC’ when I finish my career. It’s either I am going to be a World champion or I’m not, that’s the main thing to me. It’s nice to be ranked high though and people want me to fight the top guys.

“I’ve had five fights, and I could jump in now with the top boys, but I don’t want to do that and not have the experience. People will say ‘he should be fighting him, him and this guy’, but people say anything, I just have to do what I am doing and get to the top and beat them.

“I need experience. On my day I can beat the top boys, but I want to give myself the best chance, I don’t want to go in there and fight them too soon and just be too short. But saying that, I’m still good enough to beat them.”

Yafai’s clash with Gauto is part of a huge night of action, led by a double-header featuring two of America’s best young talents as Richardson Hitchins takes on Gustavo Lemos in a final eliminator for the IBF World Jr. Welterweight title and Diego Pacheco defends his USWBC and WBO International Super-Middleweight titles against Shawn McCalman

Skye Nicolson provides the World title action on the card, looking to claim a World crown at the first attempt as she meets Sarah Mahfoud for the vacant WBC Featherweight strap, Marc Castro gets a first title bout in his 12th pro outing, taking on Abraham Montoya for the vacant WBC Continental Americas Super-Featherweight title, Harley Mederos is in action for the sixth time in the paid ranks over six rounds against Pedro Vicente and there’s a pro debut for former Team USA talent Steven Navarro over six rounds at Super-Flyweight against Jose Lopez.

In chief support undefeated, top 8 super lightweight world title contender Arnold Barboza Jr. (29-0, 11 KOs) of El Monte, Calif. will fight for the WBO Intercontinental Title against Belfast, Ireland’s Sean “The Public Nuisance” McComb (18-1, 5 KOs). Barboza Jr. is coming off of an eighth-round knockout victory last January 2024 against Xolisani Ndongeni. The 10-round super lightweight fight will be the U.S. debut of the “Public Nuisance” who was last seen securing his WBO European Super Lightweight Title.

“Every training session and every trial and tribulation has paved the path for this moment,” said Arnold Barboza Jr. “I train like the challenger that I am but I fight like the Champion that I will become. Tune in April 20th on DAZN.”

“I’ve been waiting for this opportunity for a long time, and now it’s here, I plan to grab it with both hands.” said Sean McComb. “Arnold is a great fighter – but so am I. It’s going to be a great fight. Thanks to Golden boy and my manager Lee Eaton for making it happen. April 20th I promise you’ll see the upset!”

Also on the DAZN PPV telecast, Bektemir “Bek” Melikuziev (13-1, 10 KOs) of Sholmbek, Uzbekistan will defend his WBA Intercontinental Super Middleweight Title in a 10-round fight against Pierre Dibombe (22-0-1, 12 KOs) of Nantes, France. PACHECO: MY DAUGHTER IS MY MOTIVATION

Diego Pacheco is more determined than ever to reach the very top after becoming a father for the first time during his training camp for the defense of his USWBC and WBO International Super-Middleweight titles against Shawn McCalman on Saturday night at BleauLive Theater at Fontainebleau Las Vegas, live worldwide on DAZN.

TICKETS ARE ON SALE NOW VIA TICKETMASTER

Pacheco (20-0 17 KOs) became a father for the first time when partner Jo gave birth to their daughter Divine, and the hard-hitting 168lb beast has been balancing life as a dad with training in his Seattle base for the biggest fight of his career to date.

Just like in the ring, the 23 year old has met the challenge head on and is loving life both in the gym and at home with his young family, and with more mouths to feed than before, he’s hungrier than ever to reach the top, starting with his clash with McCalman (15-0 7 KOs) on Saturday.

“My whole life has changed, I’m not doing this for me anymore, it’s for my daughter, my family, that’s what it’s all about now,” said Pacheco. “She came two weeks earlier than she was supposed to so we were caught a little bit off-guard, but it’s been amazing since day one; smiling, crying, needing me and that’s really been motivating and different in this camp, just looking forward to coming home to my daughter after training and thinking about her when I am training and pushing myself harder than usual for her.

“Before my daughter arrived, I was all boxing, it’s all I lived for and thought about, now it’s more of a balance. Boxing is always going to be here, I’m always going to be a boxer and the fighter that I am destined to be, but now I have my family that depend on me and I have to be there for them and there are different challenges that come with being a Dad, it’s been crazy, it’s a lot to think about, it’s changed the way I think for sure.

“Every decision I make I think about her, my family, my girlfriend. I’m working like never before and that’s never going to happen to change, I have my goals that I am trying to reach in boxing and in life, so it’s added motivation. I haven’t let it affect me in the gym, there’s been a few changes with the feeds and so on, but it’s been amazing.

“It was challenging the first few days, I heard a lot of people say how things change when you have a baby, things will be a lot different, and I realize now that’s so right, but I cherish every moment. Being a parent has changed my life and I can’t wait to see her grow up.”

Pacheco’s clash with McCalman is part of a huge night of action, with Richardson Hitchins takes on Gustavo Lemos in a final eliminator for the IBF World Jr. Welterweight title.

Skye Nicolson provides the World title action on the card, looking to claim a World crown at the first attempt as she meets Sarah Mahfoud for the vacant WBC Featherweight strap and British Olympic gold medal man Galal Yafai defends his WBC International Flyweight title against Agustin Mauro Gauto

Marc Castro gets a first title bout in his 12th pro outing, taking on Abraham Montoya for the vacant WBC Continental Americas Super-Featherweight title, Harley Mederos is in action for the sixth time in the paid ranks over six rounds against Pedro Vicente and there’s a pro debut for former Team USA talent Steven Navarro over six rounds at Super-Flyweight against Jose Lopez.

May 18: Hometown Hero Giovani Santillan to Fight Brian Norman Jr. in Battle of Unbeaten Welterweights at Pechanga Arena San Diego LIVE on ESPN

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (April 3, 2024) — San Diego-born welterweight contender Giovani “Gallo De Oro” Santillan has an opponent for his homecoming. The WBO No. 1-ranked fighter at 147 pounds will take on fellow unbeaten Brian Norman Jr. in a 12-round showdown on Saturday, May 18 at Pechanga Arena.

Santillan-Norman will be the co-feature to the vacant WBO lightweight title tilt between Mexican three-division world champion Emanuel “Vaquero” Navarrete and Ukraine’s Denys Berinchyk.

And, in the eight-round televised opener, heavyweight knockout artist Richard Torrez Jr. (9-0, 9 KOs) returns against an opponent to be named. Torrez fought last Friday on the Oscar Valdez-Liam Wilson/Seniesa Estrada-Yokasta Valle card in Glendale, Arizona, stopping Don Haynesworth in the opening round.

Navarrete-Berinchyk, Santillan-Norman and Torrez’s return will be broadcast LIVE on ESPN, ESPN Deportes and ESPN+ at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT.

Promoted by Top Rank, tickets go on sale Friday, April 5 at 10 a.m. PT via AXS.com.

“Brian Norman Jr. is a highly skilled young fighter,” Santillan said. “I get so much motivation from my city, and fighting at Pechanga Arena is always special. May 18 will be a great night, and I can’t wait to give my fans another victory.”

Norman said, “This is the big fight I have been waiting for. It’s time to show the world what I’m about.”

Santillan (32-0, 17 KOs) upset Alexis Rocha last October to earn the WBO No. 1 ranking. He returns to Pechanga Arena, the site of two of his greatest triumphs. In October 2021, Santillan notched a 10-round decision over Angel Ruiz on the Navarrete-Joet Gonzalez undercard. The following August, he turned away the game Julio Luna on the Navarrete-Eduardo Baez bill. He hopes to make it three for three in front of the hometown fans. Norman (25-0, 19 KOs), a former U.S. amateur star, is a six-year pro taking a sizable step up in class. He went 3-0 in 2023, capping off the year with a one-sided verdict over Quinton Randall on the Shakur Stevenson-Edwin De Los Santos card in Las Vegas. Norman made his 2024 debut in March, fighting to a no contest with Janelson Bocachica after Bocachica suffered a severe cut on his forehead.

In undercard action, streaming live and exclusively on ESPN+:

  • Lightweight phenom Emiliano Fernando Vargas (9-0, 7 KOs) will see action in a six-rounder, Alan “Kid Kansas” Garcia (12-0, 10 KOs) returns in an eight-rounder at lightweight, and Robert Garcia-trained junior welterweight Art Barrera Jr. (4-0, 4 KOs) looks to make it five straight in a four-rounder. Vargas, Garcia, and Barrera were all victorious on March 29 in Glendale, Arizona.

  • Bay Area lightweight prospect Charlie Sheehy (9-0, 5 KOs) takes on Manuel Jaimes (15-1-1, 11 KOs) in an eight-rounder. Sheehy is coming off February’s shutout decision over Abdel Sauceda, while James has won three in a row since the lone defeat of his career.

  • Junior lightweight prospect Jonathan Lopez (14-0, 10 KOs) looks to break the four-fight winning streak of Mexican veteran Edgar Ortega (14-2-2, 7 KOs) in an eight-rounder. Lopez, who is trained by Eddy Reynoso, went 5-0 in 2023 and defeated Eduardo Baez via 10-round decision last June.

  • San Diego-born lightweight Jonny Mansour will make his highly anticipated pro debut in a four-rounder. Mansour was a top amateur, winning a National Golden Gloves crown in 2023 and capturing a 2020 National Championships silver medal.

Junior middleweight JUSTIN FIGUEROA (8-0, 6 KO’s) is a 2017 graduate of Holy Spirit High School in Atlantic City, where he excelled in football and wrestling. But he was also an experienced amateur boxer, who holds a win over 2022 National Golden Gloves champ Nasheed Smith. He just fought on March 30 with a six-round decision win over Christian Aguirre in San Antonio. The charismatic Figueroa, who spent quite a bit of time as a lifeguard with the Atlantic City Beach Patrol, dances “The Worm” across the ring after his victories.

Heavyweight prospect PRYCE TAYLOR (3-0, 2 KO’s) of Brooklyn has a big upside. He only began boxing in 2016, but just three years later he made it to the semifinals of the National Golden Gloves. He was also runner-up in the U.S. Championships in 2021 and 2022. Taylor, who is involved with the Team Combat League, was last seen in action at Sony Hall on March 7, winning a four-round decision over Antonio Torres. He’ll be in another four-rounder on May 11.

Middleweight JACOB SOLIS of New York (3-0, 3 KO’s), in a four-round fight, doubles as a trainer at Breadwinners Boxing in Manhattan. He is a huge fan favorite, taking a lot of female followers with him, and made his pro debut at Sony Hall last December with a sensational third-round KO of Tevin Terrance.

Middleweight JUAN PIERRE VALENCIA makes his highly-anticipated pro debut in a four-rounder. A native of Ecuador who grew up in Spain, he now resides in Irvington, NJ. Valencia won the 2023 New Jersey Golden Gloves and then proceeded to reach the semifinals of the National Golden Gloves. He’s quick, powerful and a great prospect.

And stay tuned for future announcements.

UNDEFEATED AND TOP FEATHERWIGHT PROSPECT FELIX PARRILA SQUARES OFF WITH FELLOW UNBEATEN HEGLY MOSQUEDA APRIL 6TH FOR THE WBA CONTINENTAL AMERICA TITLE!

HAMPSTEAD, NH – April 3, 2024 – On Saturday, April 6th, undefeated Featherweight prospect Felix Parrilla steps into the squared circle to do battle with Hegly Mosqueda, his most experienced foe to date, in a battle for the vacant WBA Continental America Title.

The power punching Parrilla (9-0, 8 KO’s) will be squaring off against fellow unbeaten Mosqueda (25-0, 19 KO’s). Mosqueda, from Los Teques, Venezuela and now fighting out of Londonberry, New Hampshire has stopped 10 of his last 11 opponents.

After a highly decorated amateur career Parrilla turned pro on October 16, 2021 with a 2nd round stoppage of Sidell Blocker. The New Haven, CT native reeled off 4 more knockouts to raise his record to 5-0 with all of the victories coming by way of stoppage. On August 20, 2022 Parrilla traveled to Truillo Alto, Puerto Rico to face another prospect – Gil Iglesia. In a one sided fight Parrilla dominated Iglesia to earn a clear cut 6 round unanimous decision. Felix followed that win up with 3 straight stoppages which began with a second round TKO on November 11, 2022 when he stopped 56 fight veteran Jonathan Lacona. On August 19, 2023 former Olympian Luis Porozo was vanquished in 6 rounds and in his most recent outing he stopped the rugged Steven Guachambosa in the 3rd round.

The Mosqueda bout will be Felix’s first 10 rounder and it will be the first Title Fight of his young career. Parrilla looks to make a statement by stepping up to battle his more experienced foe and with an impressive showing he will further put the Featherweight Division on notice that he is a top contender in a loaded weight class.

CO-Manager David Dubinsky, of DKO Boxing, stated, “We are very excited for the world to see what we already know, that Felix Parrilla is the top Featherweight prospect in the world. After a distinguished amateur career he has taken the necessary steps in the paid ranks to be ready for this opportunity. The world will see the best Felix Parrilla on April 6th. Winning this belt is only the first step of Felix’s ascent. Felix looks better each and every time that he steps in the ring which is bad news for Mosqueda and the rest of the Featherweight division.”

Parrilla vs Mosqueda headlines “Down and Dirty 9” an exciting evening of world class boxing presented by Reyes Boxing Promotions live from The Phanzone Sports Center in Hampstead, New Hampshire.

NICOLSON FLYING THE FLAG FOR AUSTRALIA IN LAS VEGAS

Skye Nicolson says she is fighting not just for her first World title but to continue to raise the profile of women’s boxing in Australia as she takes on Sarah Mahfoud for the vacant WBC Featherweight belt at Bleaulive Theater at Fontainebleau Las Vegas on Saturday night, live worldwide on DAZN.

TICKETS ARE ON SALE NOW VIA TICKETMASTER

Nicolson (9-0 1 KO) has already won honors for her country in the amateurs, with Commonwealth gold placed around her neck at her home games in 2018, and in her tenth pro fight, Nicolson can add a World title strap to her collection if she can see off former World ruler Mahfoud (14-1 3 KOs)

The 28 year old’s title tilt comes off the back of a chastening weekend in America for Australian fighters in World title bouts, with Tim Tszyu surrendering his crown in a bloody battle against Sebastian Fundora in Vegas, and Michael Zerafa and Liam Wilson getting stopped in their fights against Erislandy Lara and Oscar Valdez.

Nicolson has grand designs on landing one of the biggest fights out there against Amanda Serrano, and knows that beating the Dane to win her first World title would bring the fight closer to reality, and would provide a huge shot in the arm for the sport in her beloved home land.

“We’ve had a few female World champions in Australia and I excited to be part of that movement and to be one of the girls that the younger generation are looking up to and aspiring to be like,” said Nicolson. “I know I have an important job as a role model, not just for kids in Australia but around the world. A lot of athletes have an important position in shaping the lives of girls and boys, and I take that responsibility seriously.

“I follow a lot of the young girls boxing in Australia like Ella Vasen, Sienna Murray, Maia Laird and Tiana Rew, and they are killing it. The growth of female boxing is huge, women’s boxing is in its infancy, and where it’s going to be in the next ten to 20 years is very exciting and I’m really proud to be part of that development.

“The Australian boxing community just wants to get more eyes on the sport, that’s really been Australia’s struggle. We’re a big country with a small population, and it makes it really hard to get the backing and support that the athletes need. The stuff that we’re doing her around the world is aimed at growing the sport in Australia, to bring big fights there.

“Tim has lead the way and has got Australian boxing on the map and hopefully that’s going to bring big fights to Australia. That’s what I want to do as well and for me, the dream is to fight for undisputed against Amanda Serrano in Australia.”

Nicolson’s clash with Mahfoud is part of a big night of action in Las Vegas, led by a double-header with two of America’s brightest stars as Richardson Hitchins takes on Gustavo Lemos in a final eliminator for the IBF World Jr. Welterweight title and Diego Pacheco defends his USWBC and WBO International Super-Middleweight titles against Shawn McCalman.

British Olympic gold medal man Galal Yafai defends his WBC International Flyweight title against Agustin Mauro GautoMarc Castro gets a first title bout in his 12th pro outing, taking on Abraham Montoya for the vacant WBC Continental Americas Super-Featherweight title, Harley Mederos is in action for the sixth time in the paid ranks over six rounds against Pedro Vicente and there’s a pro debut for former Team USA talent Steven Navarro over six rounds at Super-Flyweight against Jose Lopez.

Undefeated Junior Welterweight Contender Lindolfo Delgado Extends Promotional Pact with Top Rank

(April 1, 2024) – Unbeaten junior welterweight contender Lindolfo Delgado has signed a multi-year contract extension with Top Rank.

The 2016 Mexican Olympian, who scored an impressive seventh-round stoppage victory over Carlos Sanchez last Friday at Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona, looks to continue his career momentum as he prepares to target the division’s elite.

Delgado is expected to make his ring return this summer.

“Lindolfo Delgado has the talent and work ethic to become a world champion, and I am pleased that he’s chosen to sign a contract extension with Top Rank,” said Top Rank Chairman Bob Arum. “We have big plans for Lindolfo and look forward to seeing him back in the ring soon.”

Delgado said, “I’m thrilled to continue working with a tremendous team at Top Rank. They do an amazing job at promoting fighters. I will continue working hard in the gym so that I’m ready for the big fights. I will become a world champion.”

“Top Rank made the commitments Delgado needed and wanted,” said Rick Mirigian, Delgado’s manager. “They have moved him well and see him as a world champion soon, along with plans for him to fight in Mexico. Delgado is ready for Teofimo Lopez and anyone else Top Rank has to offer.”

Delgado (20-0, 15 KOs) debuted as a pro in April 2017 and compiled an 11-0 record before signing with Top Rank in March 2021. That June, he overcame a nearly two-year layoff to beat Salvador Briceño via eight-round decision. The following year, he transitioned to contender status by upsetting then-unbeaten knockout artist Omar Aguilar via unanimous decision in August. In 2023, he went 3-0, decisioning Clarence Booth over eight one-sided rounds in February, outpointing Jair Valtierra across 10 rounds in August, and crushing Luis Hernandez in only four rounds in November.

PROMOTER SAMPSON LEWKOWICZ SAYS NEW UNIFIED CHAMP SEBASTIAN FUNDORA WILL HONOR VERBAL REMATCH AGREEMENT WITH TIM TSZYU

LAS VEGAS – April 1, 2024 – Sampson Lewkowicz, the sole promoter of brand-new unified WBC and WBO 154-Pound World Champion Sebastian “The Towering Inferno” Fundora, wishes to clarify his position on a potential Fundora rematch with now former champ and previously unbeaten Tim Tszyu.

“We were all so eager to make this fight that many of our agreements were made verbally. There wasn’t enough time,” explained Lewkowicz. “But I wish to make it clear that Team Fundora will honor the agreement. My word is always equal to a signed contract. Tim Tszyu, your rematch is ready when you are.”

Lewkowicz says the Fundora vs. Tszyu rematch will happen, with the only deciding factor being if Tszyu would like to do it immediately or if he prefers the fighters take an interim fight each beforehand.

“It all depends on Tim Tszyu,” said Lewkowicz. “If he doesn’t take the rematch, we will take the WBO mandatory or Spence, whatever the WBO says, but the first priority is the rematch with Tim Tszyu.”

In one of the bloodiest and most exciting fights of the past decade, Fundora won the titles by taking home a split-decision over Tszyu in the main event of the inaugural PBC Pay-Per-View available on Prime Video Saturday night from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. One judge scored the fight 116-112 for Tszyu but was overruled by scores of 116-112 and 115-113 for Fundora.

Tszyu (24-1, 17 KOs) fought well in the first two rounds, almost landing straight right hands at will before running into an incidental elbow from Fundora (21-1-1, 13 KOs) in round two, which opened a massive cut on the top of his head. Bravely, Tszyu fought on but, with his vision compromised, he was not the same fighter against Fundora’s newly rediscovered jab and superb work rate for the rest of the fight.

Fundora, who became the second world champion in his family, following his sister Gabriela, the current IBF Flyweight World Champion (both are trained by their father and certain Trainer of the Year candidate, Freddy) was also forced to deal with blood flowing, as a badly broken nose hampered his breathing for most of the fight. Undaunted, the new champ focused on using his significant reach advantage to consistently pepper Tszyu with jabs and clubbing left hands from the southpaw stance.

“Both fighters proved their tremendous hearts in this fight,” said Lewkowicz. “The elbow was a complete accident, but it showed Tim Tszyu’s greatness in continuing to fight when he could have quit. And Sebastian Fundora was swallowing his own blood for 10 rounds and still was able to beat one of the best in his division. It was a sensational fight, and we are ready to do it again when Tim is ready. Congratulations to both fighters. There were no losers Saturday night. The boxing fans won by witnessing it. Amazon Prime Video won with an amazing first show and both fighters won by proving their greatness in front of the whole world.”

HITCHINS: I’M READY TO BECOME A SUPERSTAR

Richardson Hitchins has told Matchroom’s ‘Flash Knockdown’ podcast that he’s on the road to superstardom and will ram that home with a dazzling performance in his biggest fight to date when he takes on Gustavo Lemos in a final eliminator for the IBF World Jr. Welterweight title at Bleaulive Theater at Fontainebleau Las Vegas on Saturday April 6, live worldwide on DAZN.TICKETS ARE ON SALE NOW VIA TICKETMASTERLISTEN TO THE LATEST EPISODE OF MATCHROOM’S ‘FLASH KNOCKDOWN’ PODCAST HEREHitchins (17-0 7 KOs) can take a giant step towards landing a World title shot with victory over Lemos (29-0 19 KOs) in Sin City, and the Brooklyn ace is determined to show fans and rivals alike that he is here to stay as an elite-level headliner. The 26 year old meets the unbeaten Argentine with daunting carrot of a shot at IBF king Subriel Matias dangling ominously in what is fast becoming the most exciting division in the sport. Hitchins though is not focusing on the champions or indeed Lemos, but just working on perfecting his craft, as he believes the best of Richardson Hitchins is too much for any foe, and that the boxing world has already started to recognize that. “I think I am a star already and superstar status comes with me promoting myself, making the best of my opportunities and getting to that superstar status,” said Hitchins. “My name is buzzing already as if I am a World champion, people put me in these fantasy fights like ‘I want to see Richardson Hitchins vs. Devin Haney, vs. Subriel Matias’ and this is just in a year that I’ve been with Matchroom. Once I’ve had a little bit of exposure to the boxing fans, my name is on the scene, so I feel like slowly but surely, people are seeing my talent and that will turn me into the superstar that I want to be once I get my hands on the World championships and big fights.

“I feel good, I feel ready for the moment. This is what I’ve been doing my whole life, this will just be another day in the ring for me and picking up another victory. That’s what we plan to do on Saturday.

“This is big, I’m not going to lie, it’s a huge opportunity. When I first fought on a Matchroom card in Ohio I said, ‘I’m supposed to be the main event right now’, and I don’t even think it was a year later that I was headlining my first card. I felt Matchroom was giving opportunities to fighters that were on a lesser level than me, and I felt I belonged at the level where I was headlining my own cards and be on the verge of a World title. I proved myself slowly but surely that I belong with the elite guys in the division, and now is the time to stamp my name in the division and in the sport.

“I’ve just be working extremely hard and perfecting my craft like I always do. I was told if it’s not broke don’t fix it, so we just tweak it. We’ve done some different things in camp to better condition me. As far as mentally and skillfully, we’re trying to get better in that aspect, to grow and elevate my game. My mindset is like what Kobe Bryant said, I’m chasing perfection even though I’ll probably never get it, because I know that most of my opponents will never chase something that’s so unobtainable, that will give me the edge over a lot of people.

“I’m one of those fighters that people say, ‘oh he’s boring’, but I’m also one of those fighters that could box a perfect fight and not have a glove landed on me. So I feel like that’s my motto and I’m sticking to hitting and not getting hit, and elevating my game, that’s what we focus on in camp, everything else is just getting in shape and making sure my body is in physical condition to endure punishment if needed or to go any grueling rounds if that’s what it comes down to.”

Hitchins’ clash with Lemos is part of a big night of action in Las Vegas as fellow rising contender Diego Pacheco defends his USWBC and WBO International Super-Middleweight titles against Shawn McCalman.

World title action on the card comes in the form of unbeaten Australian Skye Nicolson looking to claim a World crown at the first attempt as she meets Sarah Mahfoud for the vacant WBC Featherweight strap, while British Olympic gold medal man Galal Yafai defends his WBC International Flyweight title against Agustin Mauro Gauto.
