BITTER RIVALS JOSH TAYLOR AND JACK CATTERALL SET FORHUGE REMATCH ON APRIL 27

LEEDS, England (Feb. 15, 2024) — After more than two years of waiting, bitter rivals Josh Taylor and Jack Catterall will finally meet in a hugely anticipated rematch at the First Direct Arena in Leeds on Saturday, April 27, shown live on DAZN in the UK and around the world and exclusively on ESPN+ in the U.S.

The enemies have been embroiled in a heated war of words since February 2022 when they met on an unforgettable night at The OVO Hydro Arena in Glasgow for Taylor’s undisputed junior welterweight world title.

Intense debate has raged in the aftermath of their first fight, when Scotland’s Taylor (19-1, 13 KOs) protected his unbeaten record with a hugely controversial split decision win to retain his crown.

During a pulsating battle, Taylor was cut twice by the left eye and was put down by Catterall in the 8th round before he was deducted one point in the 11th for punching after the bell. Catterall, meanwhile, was deducted one point for holding in the 10th.

Chorley’s ‘El Gato’ (28-1, 13 KOs) appeared to outbox Taylor for long periods but ultimately tasted defeat for the first time in his career after Taylor clung onto his titles. The decision caused outrage among some boxing fans and the two have been at loggerheads ever since.

Following his clash with Catterall, ‘The Tartan Tornado’ relinquished his WBC, IBF and WBA world titles due to pending mandatory orders – and then lost his WBO crown to a resurgent Teofimo Lopez in New York City last June.

Catterall ended a 15-month ring absence by widely outpointing Irishman Darragh Foley over ten-rounds at the Manchester’s AO Arena in May 2023 before sending multi-weight world champion Jorge Linares into retirement after dominating the Venezuelan legend over 12 rounds in Liverpool last October.

In what is one of the most eagerly anticipated rematches in modern British boxing history, the fierce rivals will go head-to-head once more in a 12-round junior welterweight contest on neutral territory – with plenty of bad blood and animosity guaranteed in a blockbuster build-up.

“I’ve never run from anyone in my life, especially not Jack Catterall,” Taylor said. “He has spent the last two years running from promoter to promoter while living off my name. Jack should be careful what he wishes for because he’s getting battered on April 27. I am going to enjoy every second of this. See you soon, Jack.”

“I’ve wanted this fight since the moment the scorecards got read out in Glasgow,” Catterall said . “A few people say ‘move on Jack’, and that’s easy to say to when you’re not in my position. I get asked every day of my life multiple times a day, ‘when are you fighting Taylor again?’. This isn’t about belts, this is personal to me, and I can’t wait to get my hands on him. I don’t like him, I don’t respect him and on April 27 I’m going to end him.”

“I’m so happy to get this fight made,” said Matchroom Sport Chairman Eddie Hearn. “British boxing has been crying out for a big fight and now we look to settling the score of one of the most bitter rivalries in the sport. It will be nearly 2 years to the day since their controversial ndisputed fight and not a day has past where opinion and debate has not ensued. The pair have engaged in a back and forth full of hatred and now the time has come to finally meet again in Leeds on April 27. Despite the offers to stage this fight on PPV, I am proud that Matchroom and DAZN have stepped up make this fight available to subscribers as part of their subscription and I can’t wait for the intense build up and a huge event on April 27.”

“This is the ultimate grudge match between two of the world’s top 140-pounders,” said Top Rank Chairman Bob Arum. “These two warriors will settle the score in front of what I’m sure will be an incredible crowd in Leeds. If you look at Josh Taylor’s career, he has never, ever backed down from a challenge, and he will be in peak form on April 27.”

An announcement on ticket details will follow soon.

ALI IZMAILOV: “YOU’RE GOING TO SEE THE NEXT LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION ON FEBRUARY 20”

DETROIT – February 15, 2024 – Undefeated top light heavyweight contender Ali Izmailov plans to make a statement on his championship intentions when defends his USBA Light Heavyweight Title against Britton Norwood in the co-main event of “Big Time Boxing USA” on Tuesday, February 20 from Wayne State Fieldhouse in Detroit and streamed live on DAZN.

“You’re going to see the next light heavyweight champion on February 20,” said Izmailov. “There’s a lot of activity around the light heavyweight division and it’s motivated me even more during training camp. I know that I have to make a big statement and I’m ready to do it.”

Izmailov (11-0, 7 KOs) resides in Detroit but is trained in Florida by the renowned John David Jackson, who Izmailov credits with getting him this far in the pros.

“Coach Jackson has helped me a lot because he brings so much experience as both a fighter and a trainer,” said Izmailov. “It makes training much more fun. I really enjoy getting in there every day because I’m always learning and improving.”

The 30-year-old turned in a career best victory in his last outing, besting the previously undefeated Charles Foster via unanimous decision in a nationally televised bout on SHOWTIME. Three of Izmailov’s last four opponents entered the ring with unbeaten records, reflecting the kind of challenges Izmailov seeks in his career.

“I have shown that I want to fight the best as soon as possible and earn my world title shot,” said Izmailov. “My goal is to beat the best fighters in the division, no matter who it is. I’ll be ready for anyone.”

On February 20 he will face Norwood (13-4-1, 10 KOs), a veteran who’s competed since 2016 and who has won his last three bouts, all by knockout. For Izmailov, he hopes that Norwood will provide a stiff test and therefore give the fans a better fight to enjoy.

“On my end, I always prepare diligently, so the better Norwood is, the better show the fans will get,” said Izmailov. “If I get the opportunity for the knockout, I’ll definitely take it. But I’ve prepared hard for whatever happens in the fight. In the end, I want everyone to say that I’m the next exciting light heavyweight fighter.”

With a potential undisputed showdown between titleholders Dmitriy Bivol and Artur Beterbiev looking likely for the first half of the year, Izmailov plans to watch the fight closely with an eye on facing the winner as soon as possible.

“That’s a great fight and I’m very excited about it,” said Izmailov. “It’s too hard for me to pick a winner right now, but I’m all about the best fighting the best. This will be my first time fighting on DAZN on Tuesday and I can’t wait to show the boxing world what I’m all about and that I deserve to be next in line fighting for the belts.”

Tickets for the live event are available through ETix.com.

VIDEO: Adrian Curiel Vs Sivenathi Nontshinga 2: Press Conference

CURIEL VS. NONTSHINGA II – FINAL PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES

Frank Smith

“Our Mexican series of boxing always brings amazing nights and fights, and Friday will be the same. Thank you to the government here in Oaxaca and everyone involved for making this event possible.

“It’s going to be an amazing night of fights and there’s a massive opportunity for some young fighters on the big stage live on DAZN ahead of the return of Mauricio Lara, who is always in exciting fights and we’re looking forward to the next phase of his career, and then we have the rematch.

“The first time in Monaco, Adrian surprised a lot of people, I don’t think people thought he had the power to do what he did, so Sive is here to change that story. I was in Mexico when Sive won the title and it’s probably the best fight I’ve ever seen in my life, a back and forth 12 rounds. If Sive can recreate that night, and Adrian can do what he did in Monaco, we’re in for something special.”

Adrian Curiel – defends his IBF World Light-Flyweight title in rematch against Sivenathi Nontshinga

“It’s great to be here and a huge opportunity to defend my title. We have trained as champions, but we will go into the fight with a challenger mentality. It’s great to defend my belt on home soil. It was not a lucky shot or KO.

“I’ve been watching interviews that he’s been giving, and he says that I’m not a big puncher and I’m an easy fighter, but he’ll see on Friday that as we say here, people need to back up what they say. So, we’ll see on Friday if that’s true.”

Sivenathi Nontshinga – challenges Adrian Curiel in rematch for the IBF World Light-Flyweight title

“My title looks good on him! It feels great to be here, it’s been a long time coming, I’ve been working so hard, and I will grab this opportunity with both hands. There will be a great atmosphere, I’ve met so many kind people here and I am looking forward to Friday night.

“I’ve trained so hard, it’s not the first time I’ve prepared for a World title fight, I’ve been a champion before, and I promise everybody that once again I will prevail. I believe falling down is part of life, but getting back up is living, so once again, I will become a champion.

Mauricio Lara – faces Daniel Lugo over ten rounds at Super-Featherweight

“I just took some time out to analyze what was going on in terms of my boxing, and now I am back. I take it all calmly. I have traveled all over the world to fight, but it’s similar in terms of mental focus for this fight and it’s lovely to be Oaxaca, a lovely part of Mexico, and I’m motivated and full of emotion to make sure people go away happy from this fight.”

Daniel Lugo – faces Mauricio Lara over ten rounds at Super-Featherweight

“We know he is a former champion, we see this as a big opportunity. We came to Oaxaca three weeks ago so that we could adapt and be ready at the optimal conditions on Friday. I’m have the hunger to win and to become known in boxing, we’ve had a really good camp and I feel really, really strong.”

Sergio Chirino Sanchez – faces Dennis Contreras over ten rounds at Super-Bantamweight title

“I am delighted to be fighting at home, and welcome everybody to Oaxaca. It’s great to be in such a big fight and also on such a great card. It’s an opportunity for all the boxers to shine, for the eyes of the world to be on Oaxaca on Friday night. We’ve been training with the opponent in mind, but we have a lot of experience, so it’s a great opportunity and we’re going to show that we are ready.”

Arturo Cardenas – faces Ernesto Garcia over ten rounds for the WBC Continental Americas Super-Bantamweight title

“It’s a great opportunity for me to be here and I’m happy to be fighting for my first title and on such a big card. We’ve had a great camp, we always do with Robert Garcia and RGBA, we’re always 100 per cent ready for whatever comes our way, and this is a great chance and fight for me, and we feel ready.”

Criztec Bazaldua – faces Alejandro Castillo over six rounds at Lightweight

“It’s a blessing to come back to my home roots in Mexico and put on a show. Me, Fed and Diego we grew up together and it’s great to see us succeeding, we Just need to keep going and keep putting South Central LA on the map.”

Federico Pacheco – faces Joe Mario Tamez over four rounds at Heavyweight

“Thank you to Matchroom for giving me another fight on the big stage. Last time it was in Monterrey and I love coming down to Mexico top put on a show. I am ready and very thankful to be here. “The journey has been everything. The ups and downs. Growing as a person. I’ve matured now, mentally and physically. Words can’t explain how I feel, but I’m ready.”

“It was crazy {against Rocky Hernandez}. We shocked the world. And I’m here to do it again. Everybody calls me Shock, and we’re going to keep doing it.”

“We’ve been calling out Nova for years. He knows it. His excuse was that my name wasn’t big enough. Funny how the tables turn. I’m ready, and I’m familiar with his style.”

“I did everything in the gym. We are prepared. Come Friday night, we will dominate and put on a show.”

Abraham Nova

“Fighting for a world title is a dream come true. I can’t let this opportunity slip by. I’ve wanted this for so long. Now I have this opportunity. So, I’m super excited and super motivated.”

“I like to take control of things in my career. It’s the main reason I picked boxing. It’s an individual sport. I can be in control.”

“I’ve got to put my trust in God. Everything in the gym has been done. You know what I bring and what I come with. The pressure will be on. The IQ will be on. Everything will be on. I will just have to adjust and come out with the victory.”

Andres Cortes

“I’m really excited to be here. First time here. Let’s get the show started.”

“You can expect another statement from me. You’ll see me taking another step towards a world title.”

“I see a world title in my future. I’m here to take care of Bryan first. But maybe one day we can make that fight happen.”

Bryan Chevalier

“The ring is the same throughout the world. It’s a square. It’ll just be me, him and the referee. We’re ready to give a great show to boxing fans.

“Styles make fights. I prepared to give the best of me. I will accommodate to what he has. He will have to accommodate to what I have. Without a doubt, it will be a war between Mexico and Puerto Rico.”

Bruce Carrington

“I love these opportunities to fight at home. Bernard Torres is a southpaw. It’s always interesting to fight against a southpaw. He’s a good fighter. 18-1. Great record. He shows a lot of will and skill. There’s nothing more you can ask for in a opponent.”

“He’s a good fighter. But with my experience, confidence, and work ethic, I know that I’ve got a Plan A through Z and even more to take care of Bernard Torres.”

Bernard Torres

“Growing up in boxing, it’s a dream to fight here. So, I’m happy to box here at Madison Square Garden. I am really happy for this opportunity. I’m very prepared. I had a really great camp. I’m really happy and ready to go.”

In the main event, WBC junior lightweight world champion, O’Shaquie “Ice Water” Foster will make his second world title defense against Abraham “El Super” Nova.

Foster (21-2, 10 KOs) is unbeaten in 11 fights since a split decision loss to Rolando Chinea in July 2016. He won the WBC world title in February 2023 with a one-sided decision over Mexican standout Rey Vargas. Eight months later, he salvaged his title with a come-from-behind 12th-round knockout over Eduardo “Rocky” Hernandez.

Nova (23-1, 16 KOs) had nearly 200 fights during a storied amateur career that included victories over Frank Martin, Richardson Hitchins, and Nahir Albright. In June 2022, he suffered his lone career setback, a one-punch knockout at the hands of two-time Cuban Olympic gold medalist and eventual world champion Robeisy Ramirez. Following the Ramirez defeat, Nova returned to junior lightweight and picked up wins over veteran Adam Lopez and former world champion Jonathan Romero.

In the 10-round junior lightweight co-feature, Andres “Savage” Cortes takes on Puerto Rican contender Bryan Chevalier. Undefeated Cortes (20-0, 11 KOs) emerged in August 2021 with a first round knockout of former world title challenger Genesis Servania and has recorded four knockouts in his last six appearances. Chevalier (20-1-1, 16 KOs), a 10-year-pro, is unbeaten in his last 12 fights.

In the 10-round televised opener, rising featherweight Bruce “Shu Shu” Carrington, will face Filipino-born standout Bernard TorresCarrington (10-0, 6 KOs), 2020 U.S. Olympic trials champion, has been rapidly ascending the ranks since turning pro in October 2021. “Cornflake” LaManna: When it’s all said and done, I’ll have one of the greatest comeback stories in boxing”.

MILLVILLE, NJ – FEBRUARY 14th – Renowned people’s champion Thomas “Cornflake” LaManna (37-5-1 17KOs), 32, of Millville New Jersey is poised to script one of the most inspiring comeback stories in the annals of boxing. With an ongoing remarkable career marked by grit, determination, and unwavering resilience, LaManna is gearing up for an ultimate (final) shot at a World Championship, marking the culmination of a journey that epitomizes the true essence of perseverance.

“It’s never been an easy ride as people may think, boxing is tough, lonely and gets really dark. It’s crazy to think about all the ups and downs I’ve had, but what’s even crazier is that I never gave up. There’s just something in me that won’t allow me to quit”.

LaManna’s losses came to only undefeated prospects (Antoine Douglas 16-0-1 & Dusty Hernandez-Harrison 29-0-1), top contender Jorge Cota (29-3) and future/current world champions (Brian Mendoza 18-1, Former WBC Interim Champion and Erislandy Lara 27-3-3, Former Jr. Middleweight World Champion and Current WBA Middleweight World Champion).

Despite facing setbacks and challenges throughout his illustrious career, including a WBA World Title opportunity, LaManna’s unwavering dedication to his craft and unyielding passion for the sport have solidified his WBA number 4 position in the Middleweight rankings.

“When it’s all said and done, and I become a World Champion, I will have one of the greatest comeback stories in boxing. I have so much faith in me, and I bet on me. I want my journey and my story to serve as hope and inspiration for aspiring up and coming boxers and just regular everyday people alike, showcasing the power of resilience and determination”.

As LaManna reflects on his storied career and contemplates his next chapter outside the ring, he will indeed leave an indelible legacy that transcends mere wins and losses. With an unparalleled comeback story etched in the annals of boxing history, “Cornflake” LaManna stands as a testament to the enduring human spirit and the boundless possibilities that await those who dare to chase their dreams relentlessly.

LaManna is coming off a 7th round TKO victory over Nicolas Hernandez (28-8-3 12KOs) on December 29th, 2023 at Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. Currently, LaManna holds the WBA Fedelatin Middleweight Championship.

BABIC VS ROBINSON & CALLUM SIMPSON ADDED TO WARDLEY-CLARKE ‘BAD BLOOD’ BILL

LONDON, UK (February 14, 2024) – Alen ‘The Savage’ Babic takes on Steve Robinson and rising super middleweight star Callum Simpson is back in action on the undercard of the ‘Bad Blood’ showdown between unbeaten heavyweight rivals Fabio Wardley and Frazer Clarke on Sunday, March 31st at The O2 in London, live on Sky Sports in the UK and Ireland and Peacock in the USA.

Babic (11-1, 10 KOs) returns to The O2 where he has previously recorded wins over Morgan Dessaux, former World Title challenger Eric Molina and Adam Balski. The popular Croatian heavyweight has built a cult following in the UK where he has amassed a series of impressive KO wins. His unbeaten run was cut short when challenging Lukasz Rozanski for the WBC Bridgerweight World Title in Poland last April. The 33-year-old will be looking to get back to winning ways when faces Newcastle’s Steve ‘Drago’ Robinson (6-2, 4 KOs) as part of a huge night of boxing in the capital.

Simpson (13-0, 9 KOs) was ringside to watch Zak Chelli capture the British Super Middleweight Title from Jack Cullen at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool in January. The Barnsley man is mandatory challenger for the British Title but before he has his crack at the Lonsdale belt, the 27-year-old will look to extend his unbeaten streak as he returns to London following a unanimous points win over Jose de Jesus Macias at York Hall in September.

Unbeaten heavyweights Fabio Wardley and Frazer Clarke collide in a ‘Bad Blood’ showdown for the British and Commonwealth Titles on Sunday, March 31st at The O2 in London, live on Sky Sports in the UK and Ireland and Peacock in the USA.

Florian Marku and Chris Kongo will settle their simmering welterweight rivalry following an explosive press conference altercation last year with more major undercard announcements coming soon.

This event is presented in association with official partners bet365, Everlast, WOW HYDRATE, Integritas Property Group and VOW Nutrition.

Tickets, starting from just £30, go on general sale tomorrow (Thursday, February 15th) at midday. For more details visit: https://www.boxxer.com

BARAOU VS EGGINGTON TOO CLOSE TO CALL FOR ODDSMAKERS AS EURO CLASH NEARS

It’s official – Abass Barou and Sam Eggington’s European title showdown is too close to call!

The super welterweight rivals clash on March 1, at the Telford International Centrelive and free-to-air on Channel 5.

Boxing fans gave the big fight their seal of approval when Wasserman Boxing announced the contest last month, immediately predicting it will be on the fights of the year.

And the official fight odds, brought to you by Ladbrokes, reflect the excitement around this Euro showdown, with the oddsmakers unable to split Barou and Eggington.

MAKE A KNOCKOUT BET WITH LADBROKES

Baraou 10/11
Draw 18/1
Eggington 10/11

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “It’s not often our traders are left sitting on the fence, but that’s absolutely the case when it comes to splitting Eggington and Baraou.”

He added: “We’re anticipating the local lad to head into the ring with the majority of punters’ backing; while his record suggests he’s had his ups and downs, Eggington always puts on a show.”

“Jack Culcay was no doubt Baraou’s toughest fight to date and, despite losing that clash in Germany, he heads to Telford on a five-fight winning streak, something our number crunchers are obviously conscious of.”

The Wasserman Boxing show, delivered in association with Numan and Infinitum, also sees the return of heavyweight Matty Harris and the latest fight for two of British boxing’s brightest prospects, Dan Toward and Tom Welland.

A tasty looking Southern Area Super Middleweight title fight between Andrei Dascalu and Joe Jackson-Brown also forms part of an exciting undercard in Telford.

Tickets for the European title showdown on March 1 are still available

SUBRIEL MATIAS SIGNS MULTI-FIGHT CO-PROMOTIONAL DEAL WITH MATCHROOM

Subriel Matias has signed a multi-fight co-promotional deal with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom and Fresh Productions.

Matias (20-1 20 KOs) landed the vacant IBF Super-Lightweight title last February, forcing Jeremias Ponce to retire after five rounds of their clash in Minnesota, and successfully defended his title against mandatory challenger Shohjahon Ergashev in November, forcing another retirement, this time after six rounds in Las Vegas, continuing his incredible record of finishing all of his victories inside the distance.

The Puerto Rican sensation is now eyeing a summer defense at home where the 31 year old made his debut in December 2015 and has boxed there 11 times to date. A homecoming as a World champion would be something special, and Matias is thrilled to be teaming up with Matchroom and DAZN to deliver the huge nights he is hunting.

“I am very excited about the deal we’ve reached with Matchroom,” said Matias. I can’t wait to show DAZN, Matchroom, all the big names out there and the world why this deal was made: because I am the best 140 pounder on the planet. And I will show this in front of my people, which makes me immensely happy. I promise to keep working hard to give the fans what they are looking for. This is all-out wars until one of the two opponents breaks up. I do not run. It is not my fighting style, and it is not in my DNA. This will not change now in any way. Whoever they put in front of me, I will destroy.

“I thank my promoters, Matchroom and Fresh Productions, for this opportunity. I am excited to be in the Matchroom team. I will not let you down. To my people in Puerto Rico, I will see you soon. And we will have a glorious boxing night.”

“Fresh Productions is very excited and looking forward to this partnership with Matchroom,” said Juan Orengo, Fresh Productions. “After months of carefully analyzing several offers, for all of which we are immensely grateful, we have decided that Matchroom is the promoter that can take Subriel to the level of exposition and the names we are looking for. They believe in Puerto Rico’s boxing fans and market. They believe we can do big things in Puerto Rico, as do we.

“Puerto Rico is a boxing country with a long-standing legacy in the sport. We are here to revive that market and make Puerto Rico the great boxing venue it once was. Expect big things. We see a bright future ahead of us, and we believe Matchroom and DAZN are the perfect fit for our plans with Subriel.”

“I am delighted to welcome Subriel to the team,” said Hearn. “Subriel is one of the most exciting fighters on the planet, with action guaranteed every time he fights, and as a World champion at 140lbs, the fights out there for him are massive.

“Puerto Rico is a huge market for Matchroom and DAZN, and with Subriel joining Edgar Berlanga and Yankiel Rivera in our stable, we are looking forward to holding some huge events there, starting with Subriel’s heroic return for the first time as a World champion this summer.”

An announcement on Matias’ second defense of his World crown will be made soon.

Fighters First Launches Boxing Showcase Series

SAN ANTONIO, February 9, 2024 – Key to a professional boxer’s success at the highest levels is staying busy. However, it is increasingly challenging due to the fracturing promotional and media environment.

Taking matters into its own hands, Fighters Fight Management and promoter Desi Martinez created the new “Fighters First Showcase” boxing series to give emerging talents and prospects a platform to keep their skills sharp and provide them visibility.

First Event in San Antonio on Saturday, March 30

The first event in the planned four-fight card showcase takes place on Saturday, March 30, 2024, at the Boeing Center at Tech Port in San Antonio, Texas.

Top-rated lightweight contender Giovanni Cabrera of Chicago (21-1, 7 KOs) will headline the main event. Cabrera is coming off a narrow-split decision defeat to Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz on the Spence vs. Crawford undercard Cabrera is eager to get back to business.

“I am excited to return to the ring and showcase my skills in front of the fight fans from the great city of San Antonio,” said Cabrera.

Featured on the undercard is undefeated welterweight Justin Figueroa (7-0, 6 KOs), who scored a third-round knockout win on a December 14 Golden Boy Fight Night card; and lightweight Sharahya Moreu of Albuquerque, New Mexico, who won her professional debut at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City in July 2023.

Breaking Down Promoter Barriers

Fighters First CEO Adrian Clark created the Fighters First Showcase series to keep the roster active and recruit new clients. Clark teamed with San Antonio native Martinez, who is new to the business of boxing as a promoter but not new to business leadership.

Martinez, age 49, is the founder of the law firm Martinez & Associates. The showcase series marks his debut as a new promoter.

“Desi and I want to push the boxing culture forward and break promotional logjams with a new approach,” said Clark. “We can provide more opportunities for current clients and recruit talented unsigned fighters and develop healthy working relationships with other promoters and managers.

Martinez says his background has prepared him to take on this challenge. “I needed to do this with the right personnel and at the right time. Like any perfect combination, when timed right, it makes for a beautiful knockout. Desi Martinez Promotions and Fighters First Management are an ideal combination.”

Future Fighter First showcase cards will also take place in San Antonio.

Tickets are available on the Boeing Center Events website.

These bouts will lead into the inaugural four-fight PBC Pay-Per-View available on Prime Video beginning at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT and topped by two-time world champion Keith “One Time” Thurman dueling rising star and reigning world champion Tim Tszyu in the main event, plus WBA Super Lightweight World Champion Rolando “Rolly” Romero and Mexican star Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz meeting in the co-main event.

Rounding out the pay-per-view lineup is Cuban star and reigning WBA Middleweight World Champion Erislandy “The American Dream” Lara defending his belt against No. 1 rated mandatory challenger Michael Zerafa, plus all-action super welterweight sensation Sebastian “The Towering Inferno” Fundora meeting streaking contender Serhii Bohachuk for the vacant WBC Super Welterweight World Championship in the pay-per-view opener. In addition to the PPV being available for purchase on Prime Video, regardless of Prime membership, fans will also be able to continue to access the PPV telecast through traditional cable and satellite outlets.

“PBC on Prime Video is coming out of the gate strong with two matchups that promise intrigue and fireworks on March 30 at T-Mobile Arena,” said Tom Brown, President of TGB Promotions. “One of 2023’s breakout stars, Elijah García is continuing to take big steps in his career against the highly-skilled and tough as nails Kyrone Davis. Adding in Mexican flyweight world champion Julio César Martínez against the highly-motivated and undefeated Angelino Cordova and fight fans will be in for non-stop drama in the sport’s first big Las Vegas event of 2024.”

ELIJAH GARCIA VS. KYRONE DAVIS

Looking to stamp his 160-pound contender status after a huge 2023 campaign, the 20-year-old Elijah Garcíwill return for a 10-round showdown against tough middleweight contender Kyrone “Shut It Down” Davis, who can make his own name at middleweight with a signature victory on March 30.

Fighting out of Phoenix, Arizona, García (16-0, 13 KOs) earned three impressive victories in 2023, kicking off his year last March with a knockout of the previously unbeaten Amilcar Vidal. He followed that up with a pair of performances on the undercards of two of the biggest events of the year, first defeating Kevin Salgado on the Gervonta Davis vs. Ryan Garcia pay-per-view in April before knocking out Armando Resendiz on the Canelo Alvarez vs. Jermell Charlo pay-per-view in September. The precocious García has moved fast since turning pro in 2020 and has knocked out seven of his last nine opponents.

“I’m excited to be back in the ring, especially on this first event with PBC and Prime Video,” said García. “Fighting on these major events is an incredible blessing and I plan on delivering another great performance. Kyrone Davis has been in the ring with some very good fighters, and it will be a challenging fight, but my plan is to get the win by any means necessary. The fans are going to see an incredible night of boxing on March 30 and everyone should be tuning in.”

The 29-year-old Davis (18-3-1, 6 KOs) picked up two victories in 2023, dominating Cristian Fabian Rios in January before scoring a unanimous decision over Cruse Stewart in December. Those victories came after a run that saw Davis battle two-time champion Anthony Dirrell to a draw in February 2021, before stepping in as a late replacement two fights later to drop a hard-fought contest against super middleweight superstar David Benavidez. An amateur standout representing Wilmington, Delaware, Davis trains in Philadelphia under the tutelage of top trainer Stephen “Breadman” Edwards.

“Elijah García is a very good fighter who’s young and hungry and he looks the part, but most importantly he’s been moved right,” said Davis. “Sometimes you can look better than you really are if you’re being moved right. I got asked about this fight last year and of course I said yes. Then everything went silent. Now, I face Cruse Stewart and he goes the distance with me and Elijah stopped him, so now he fights me. I’m not going to say too much, but I’m glad they took the fight. We’ll see if Garcia is really the future come March 30.”

JULIO CESAR MARTINEZ VS. ANGELINO CORDOVA

Originally scheduled to duel last December before visa issues for Martinez scuttled the bout, WBC Flyweight World Champion Julio César Martínez is set to attempt his sixth defense of his belt against skilled top flyweight contender Angelino Cordova in a 12-round battle.

Trained by the renowned Eddy Reynoso, Martínez (20-2, 15 KOs) first captured his flyweight world title with a ninth-round stoppage of Cristofer Rosales in his stateside debut in December 2019. The 29-year-old has gone on to defend the title five times, besting previously unbeaten opponents Jay Harris and Samuel Carmona, while most recently stopping Ronal Batista in May. A native of Mexico City, Martínez’s only blemish since a split-decision loss in his pro debut was a decision loss to future Hall of Famer Roman Gonzalez in March 2022.

“I’m ready to give it my all in training camp for this fight,” said Martínez. “I want all of the big fights and big prizes this year. My plan is to go earn this win on March 30 and end up with my hand raised. Then I’m going for all the belts, no matter who I have to face. I’m going to be the last man standing.”

The 28-year-old Cordova (18-0-1, 12 KOs) earned a career-best victory in his last outing, as he bested former world champion Angel Acosta on his way to a 10-round unanimous decision victory last April. A native of Ciudad Bolivar, Venezuela, Cordova has yet to taste defeat since debuting in 2017, with a draw in just his fourth fight as the only blemish. He made his U.S. debut in June 2022, defeating Axel Aragon Vega by decision before the triumph over Acosta.

“I’m very thankful that this fight is on and confirmed,” said Cordova. “My team did a great job making sure that this fight was rescheduled, and I’m thrilled it’s part of a huge card like this. I’m excited to finally face Martínez on March 30. The only thing on my mind is becoming the new WBC world champion.”

Austin Brooks Captures WBA Continental Title on CBN Promotions’ “Super Brawl Saturday” Card

LONG BEACH, CA (February 12, 2024) – This past Saturday on CBN Promotions’ “Super Brawl Saturday” card, undefeated super featherweight prospect, Austin Brooks (12-0, 5 KOs), captured the WBA Continental title with a dramatic 7th round knockout over Jose Manuel Izaguirre (7-1, 3 KOs). In the 8-round co-main event, lightweight Tayden Beltran (8-0-1, 4 KOs), remained undefeated as he was victorious against Willmark Canonico (12-4-2, 10 KOs).

Watch the replay of CBN Promotions’ “Super Brawl Saturday” card tonight at 6:00 pm PT on FOX Deportes and later in the week on Estrella TV. The entire event aired live on Fubo Sports.

In the 8-round super featherweight main event, Austin Brooks had to make an adjustment to come out victorious against Jose Manuel Izaguirre. In the early rounds, Izaguirre landed his overhand right to the head of Brooks and took an early lead in the fight as both fighters were fighting out of the southpaw stance. In the fourth round, Brooks started to throw his right hook,

overhand left combo, and that adjustment changed the flow of the fight. In round seven, Brooks started to attack the body and broke down Izaguirre, stopping him at the :56 mark of the round.

“I wanted to come out and show everyone that I’m the real deal.” said Brooks. “I had to dig deep, and I give a lot of credit to my corner for giving me the right advice as I need to make an adjustment. Once I started landing my right hook, his hands came up and I started to crush his body. I’m grateful and I’m happy to be crowned the new WBA Contenential champion.”

Lightweight, Tayden Beltran won a hard-fought unanimous decision against Willmark Canonico. The fight was entertaining as both fighters were engaged throughout the entire fight. Both fighters were deducted a point for throwing punches after the bell. Beltran proved to be the stronger fighter and wore down Canoncio till the final bell. Scorecards read 76-74 twice and 77-73.

“I showed I was in great shape in this fight and proved to myself that I can bang out a win if need be.” said Beltran. “I’m looking forward to my next fight and I’m ready to face any of the top prospects in the division.”

Super lightweight Leonardo Rubalcava (5-0, 2 KOs KOs) defeated Lyle McFarlane (2-4, 1 KO) by knockout in the first round of a scheduled 6-round bout.

Super Bantamweight Adrian Alvarado (9-2-1, 4 KOs) defeated Brayan Ramos (5-5-1, 1 KO) by unanimous decision in a scheduled 6-round bout. Scorecards read 58-56, 59-58, 59-55.

BOSTON BOXING PROMOTIONS PRESENTS SUPER BRAWL 2024

Boston Boxing Promotions kicks off the new year with Super Brawl 2024 this Friday, February 16th live on www.CombatSportsNow.com.

The main event features an intriguing heavyweight showdown between buzzed about heavyweight prospect, Andrii Novytskyi (8-0, 7 KOs) and bareknuckle boxing cult hero, Bobo O’Bannon (10-6, 10 KOs).

Novytskyi, who originally hails from Ukraine but now lives and trains out of Hollywood, California was one of the most active fighters in the world last year, turning pro and entering the ring an unbelievable 8 times in 2024. In his last appearance this past November at Boston Boxing Promotion’s Thanksgiving Eve Spectacular he dispatched former world title challenger, Santander Silgado Gelez in just one round.

Now Novytskyi takes on his most unique challenge in Mobile, Alabama’s Bobby “Bobo” O’Bannon aka the Bible Belt Brawler. The rugged bareknuckle boxer boasts a winning record in both professional boxing and bareknuckle boxing as well as a 100% KO ratio in all his wins. O’Bannon has developed a cult following in the bareknuckle world with his highlight reel knockouts and dynamic personality.

It promises to be a bombs aways, no scorecards needed type affair between the two big punchers since in their combined 42 professional fights, each man has only heard the final bell once.

In the co-main event, local fan favorite, Brandon Higgins (10-4, 5 KOs) takes on veteran Pablo Ernesto Oliveto (13-13-1, 4 KOs) in a 6 round welterweight contest. Higgins, who has taken on all comers, last fought against the then undefeated Kenny Larson in what was a New England Fight of the Year candidate resulting in a highly controversial split decision loss for Higgins. He looks to rebound in front of his hometown fans against Oliveto, a battled tested Argentinian fighter.

In other action on the card…

6’9 undefeated heavyweight slugger, Serhii Sheludko (3-0, 2 KOs) will return to New England against debuting Victor Hugo Costa.

Undefeated California middleweight, Mario “Christopher” Ramirez (4-0, 1 KO) who trains out of the KnuckleHeadz Gym with world champion trainer Joe “Hoss” Janik, will face the toughest challenge in his young career against veteran spoiler, Alfred Raymond.

Rounding out the night will be multiple amateur stand outs making their pro debuts including Alexis Bolduc, Chelsea LaGrasse, Duncan McNeil and Jarrid Digangi.

Last but not least on the call will be the voices of Boston Boxing, BoxRec’s Grey Johnson and musician/fighter Chris Jay whose combination is second to none when it comes to boxing knowledge and honest, often hilarious, commentary.

“We’re set to kick off Boston Boxing Promotions’ biggest year and what better way to do it then with our 2024 Fighter of the Year, Andrii Novytski.” explains, Boston Boxing President, Peter Czymbor.

“The Ukrainian big man has become a fan favorite here in the Boston area and putting him against a hard hitting brawler should provide for an explosive main event. We invite both boxing and bareknuckle fans from around the world to tune into www.CombatSportsNow.com this Friday for another fun filled night of fights.”

Super Brawl 2024 takes place this Friday, February 16 at Memorial Hall in Melrose, Massachusetts. Limited tickets are available now at www.bostonboxingpromotions.com and the entire event will stream live on www.CombatSportsNow.com

Sampson Boxing Signs Unbeaten Brazilian Cruiserweight Lucas Pontes da Silva to a Promotional Contract

Sampson Boxing proudly announces the signing of undefeated Brazilian cruiserweight prospect Lucas Pontes da Silva to a promotional contract, with plans to feature the hard-punching South American on ProBoxTV.

Hailing from Belem, Para, Brazil, Pontes da Silva (7-0, 7 KOs) has close ties to one of his country’s greatest champions, as his father and trainer, Ulisses Pereira, has worked with former WBO lightweight champion Acelino “Popo” Freitas for more than two decades.

“My godfather of boxing is Acelino Freitas,” said Pontes da Silva. “I’ve been training with him and my father my entire life, so I am heavily influenced by him.”

After going 53-3 as an amateur, Pontes da Silva turned professional in 2017 and won the Brazilian national title in just his third fight by stopping then 8-1 Fernando Rodrigo Simoes de Almeida in two rounds. He has since added the WBC Feconsur Cruiserweight title by stopping Maximiliano Jorge Gomez in one round last year and, in his last fight, picked up the Universal Boxing Organization World Cruiserweight Championship via first-round knockout over Venezuela’s Reinaldo Gonzalez in July.

Recognizing his promising fighter’s need for proper promotional representation, Pontes da Silva’s manager, Junior Santos, brought the hard-hitting prospect to Sampson Boxing President, Sampson Lewkowicz.

I feel very proud to be part of Sampson Boxing,” said Pontes da Silva of his new promoter. “Sampson Lewkowicz is a big name in the boxing world and has worked with many champions. I’m very eager to show that I belong on his team.”

Father/trainer Ulyssess Perreira echoes his son’s sentiments.

“I feel very proud for my son to have gotten to this level and very thankful to Sampson for accepting us. I’m going to make my son a champion with his help.”

Pontes da Silva is scheduled to make his 10-round Sampson Boxing promotional and ProBoxTV debut against fellow knockout artist Efetobor “The Nigerian Pitbull” Apochi (11-2, 11 KOs) on February 16.

Despite this being a dangerous matchup against a fellow KO specialist, Perreira says neither he nor his son are particularly concerned. “We have a plan ready,” said Perreira. “With all respect to him, it’s just another fight in a line. We are in the business to work, and we will do whatever it takes.”

“He’s going to come very aggressively trying to win because he’s on a losing streak,” added Pontes da Silva (Apochi has dropped two split decisions against other top prospects in his last two fights). “We have a similar style of coming forward and I see things in him I can take advantage of. You’ll be amazed.”

“Our goal is to bring boxing its newest world champion from Brazil,” said Sampson Lewkowicz of his latest signing. “Lucas has the power and the team in place to go far in the sport. He has grown up around world champions and works hard to make his father proud and become the next one. I am very happy to be working with Lucas and his team.”

Jamaine Ortiz: “I was in control – this was a one-sided fight for me”

LAS VEGAS, NV – Jamaine Ortiz (17-2-1, 8 KOs) was the “Showman” on Thursday night.  In his first world title fight against Ring and WBO junior welterweight champion Teofimo Lopez (20-1, 13 KOs), the Technician executed his fight plan to perfection: darting in and out with quick combinations, feinting and countering effectively, and using movement and speed to puzzle and frustrate one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world.  The only thing Ortiz didn’t do was win a decision in the eyes of the judges.

“It was a masterful performance,” said CES Boxing founder Jimmy Burchfield, Sr.  “He outboxed Lopez from the beginning.  Jamaine outshined the showman in his hometown and then he was robbed of the decision.  It’s shame when a fighter loses a decision like that after putting on such a boxing clinic.  As far as I’m concerned, we beat Teofimo Lopez and we’re ready to challenge the other champions in the division.”

Closely guarding his gameplan throughout fight week, ‘The Technician’ came out as a southpaw from the opening bell and never switched to orthodox.  Despite having fought southpaws the likes of Vasyl Lomachenko, Josh Taylor and Sandor Martin throughout his career, Lopez seemed unable to hit Ortiz cleanly and was equally ineffective at cutting off the ring.

“I stuck to the gameplan,” said a dejected Ortiz moments after the decision.  “He couldn’t hit me.  I was making him miss all night.  I was keeping him at bay with the jab, I was countering with the check hook. He wasn’t landing any shots on me.”

Team Ortiz devised a plan based on Lopez being ineffective in the role of aggressor.  The game plan paid dividends immediately, as Teofimo often found himself punching air and being made to pay with counter right hooks.

“Like I said the whole week, he gets frustrated,” said Ortiz of his opponent’s temperament. “He can’t control himself. I know how to control myself and I knew he couldn’t. That was the game plan: get him frustrated and make him lose control.  He was throwing wild, I was making him miss, it was part of the game plan and it worked.”

That’s not to say that Ortiz fought off the back foot all night.  There were several instances throughout the contest when Lopez waved Ortiz in and Jamaine obliged, tagging up the Brooklyn native with rapid fire combinations.

After 12 rounds, the only real damage that ‘The Technician’ suffered, other than the widely booed decision, was a cut on his left eye from a headbutt in round 7.

“I believe I won the fight,” said Ortiz to a group of reporters afterwards. “I got him out of his gameplan.  He was frustrated and I was in control.  He was missing wildly, and I was countering him.  What can I say?  It’s politics as usual.”

Several high-profile boxers agreed, taking to social media in the early hours of Friday morning to voice their opinions.

“People gotta understand the game is called ‘BOXING’ and not ‘FIGHTING’,” wrote undisputed welterweight champion Terrence Crawford.  “Hit and not get hit.  But I guess y’all don’t know what that means, because when y’all see a fighter boxing the first thing y’all say is he’s running.”

“Beautiful boxing by Ortiz,” echoed former 2-time welterweight champion Shawn Porter.  “Doing exactly what he needs to do.  It’s like a video game.  If you can’t stop my play why the hell would I pick a different play?”

Undefeated junior welterweight contender Arnold Barboza Jr. summed it up best: “Ortiz boxed well. Congratulations.  Hopefully they don’t rob you”.

“I came up on the short end of the stick once again,” lamented Ortiz.  “Obviously we’ll go back to the drawing board, make some adjustments, and come back for another title shot.  The fans know what happened. The media knows, my team knows.  The whole world probably saw it my way, but the decision is already made. Boxrec and history will say that he won, but hopefully we get a rematch and I’ll make it more of a clear decision next time around.”

Jamaine Ortiz may not be coming home with the official win, but the fans, his peers and the world saw the Worcester native put on a boxing clinic as he showed up ‘The Showman’ in his own backyard.

It will also be a night of firsts, as World Champion kickboxer Michael ‘Spartan’ Fitzpatrick will make his professional boxing debut and Ajax welterweight Kyle ‘The Caveman’ McLaughlin (3-0, 3 KO) will fight for the first time on Canadian soil.
