MARKU-KONGO CONFIRMED FOR ‘BAD BLOOD’ CLASH ON MARCH 31ST AT THE O2 IN LONDON

LONDON, UK (February 9th, 2024) – More bad blood has been added to BOXXER’s hotly-anticipated Super Sunday Bank Holiday showdown between unbeaten heavyweights Fabio Wardley and Frazer Clarke with welterweight rivals Florian Marku and Chris Kongo set to settle their differences on March 31st at The O2 in London, live on Sky Sports in the UK and Ireland and Peacock in the USA.

There’s no love lost between Marku and Kongo, who had to be pulled apart following an explosive press conference altercation last year. It will be a clash of styles as the ‘Albanian King’ and ‘2 Slick’ meet in the capital to settle their long-standing feud in a fascinating ten round contest.

Marku, the unbeaten former IBF International Champion, made short work of his last opponent, stopping Dylan Moran inside 60 seconds on the undercard of the Liam Smith vs Chris Eubank Jr rematch on September 2nd in Manchester. The 31-year-old will be raring to go following this speedy stoppage win and is expected to bring an army of Albanian supporters with him to London.

Kongo returns following a narrow points defeat to Ekow Essuman for the British, Commonwealth, IBF European and WBC International Silver Welterweight Titles on January 21st last year. The Bermondsey man thought he did another to edge the contest but found himself of the wrong end of a majority decision at Manchester’s AO Arena.

Florian Marku said: “I’m really pleased that all my fans get to see me put on a special performance on this great card at The O2, live on Sky Sports. It’s been two and half years since my last fight in London. I can’t wait to get back in the ring and for all my fans to see me knock out Chris Kongo.”

Chris Kongo said: “I’m back in my backyard, and I’m not here to play games. Marku might think he’s dangerous, but he’s just another stepping stone on my path. I’ll show everyone why I belong at the top, starting with a victory at The O2 in South London.”

BOXXER Founder and CEO Ben Shalom said: “This is a great addition to what is going to be an incredible night of action at The O2. Florian Marku vs Chris Kongo is a fight fans have wanted to see for years. Finally, we will see them in the ring on Sunday, March 31st. It’s another unmissable ‘Bad Blood’ matchup and a must-win fight for both men.”

Unbeaten heavyweight rivals Fabio Wardley and Frazer Clarke collide in a ‘Bad Blood’ showdown for the British and Commonwealth Titles on Sunday, March 31st at The O2 in London, live on Sky Sports in the UK and Ireland and Peacock in the USA

PROMOTER SAMPSON LEWKOWICZ GRATEFUL FOR HIS INDUCTION INTO ATLANTIC CITY BOXING HALL OF FAME

Promoter Sampson Lewkowicz wishes to thank the Atlantic City Boxing Hall of Fame for his induction, as part of the 2023 class of honorees, for his “extensive contributions to the boxing industry.”

A staple of professional boxing for over three decades, the well-liked Lewkowicz has been credited with discovering several of the sport’s breakout superstars, including Manny Pacquiao, Sergio “Maravilla” Martinez, Sultan Ibragimov, David Benavidez, Jeison Rosario, Jorge Barrios, Chris John, Michael Katsidis, Sebastian and Gabriela Fundora, and many more.

Born in Montevideo, Uruguay, Lewkowicz, began his career in the fight game as a matchmaker for Murad Muhammad’s M & M Sports and later, in 2008, graduated to his own promotional firm, Sampson Boxing.

The South American visionary has guided the careers of, currently, 39 world champions, done shows all over the world and been an ardent supporter of South American amateur boxing by sponsoring several prestigious annual tournaments in conjunction with Mauricio Sulaiman and the WBC as a sponsor in Mexico.

Lewkowicz served as matchmaker and site coordinator for countless Atlantic City events televised on USA Network’s legendary Tuesday Night Fights and has gone on to promote several more AC shows on ShoBox: The New Generation and ESPN Friday Night Fights.

“Atlantic City has always held a special place in my heart, and I am honored to be recognized by the ACHOF,” said Lewkowicz. “Without Atlantic City and the guidance and mentoring of commissioner Larry Hazard, I would not have been able to achieve the things I’ve done.”

A living fairy tale in boxing, Lewkowicz emigrated to the US at age 20 in 1971. Three years later, he married his wife Ketty, his lifelong companion. They later had a son Nathan.

Among the many notable names Lewkowicz brought to fight in Atlantic City are Sydney Olympic games silver medalist Sultan Ibragimov, whom Lewkowicz helped develop from pro debut to winning the WBO Title from Shannon Briggs, as well as middleweight king “Maravilla” Martinez, Dominican multi-weight world champion Javier Fortuna, Yonatan Guzman Pena, current contenders Roiman Villa and Edwin De Los Santos, and Atlantic City’s own late Leavander Johnson, to name a few.

“Atlantic City has always been very good to me, and I have enjoyed my history of introducing superstar fighters and putting on spectacular events there,” added Lewkowicz. “I learned my craft from many of the greatest boxing minds of the century who are based in that area. I am eternally grateful for this prestigious recognition.”

SHEERAZ-WILLIAMS QUOTES

IT IS ALL systems go for this Saturday on TNT Sports with the captivating clash of the middleweights between young contender Hamzah Sheeraz and former world title challenger Liam Williams in the main event at the Copper Box Arena, with the WBC Silver and Commonwealth titles on the line.

Sam Noakes and Lewis Sylvester will go into battle for the British lightweight title, plus we have the return of Anthony Yarde. The fighters gathered today in London for the final press conference and below are a selection of key quotes from the headline fighters.

Liam Williams
“Camp has gone really, really well and I’ve trained my nuts off! I am ready and, if I’m not ready now, I never will be. I feel like I’ve turned back the clock a little bit and I’ve got that killer instinct back. I’ve been digging in and putting the work in because I want to be the best. I’m ready.

“He did ruin my Christmas a little bit. I was hoping for the fight in December and then have a bit of a chill out for a couple of weeks, but it didn’t do me any harm and I stayed fit over Christmas. If anything, it has made me better for this fight now. I still had a little runout.

“This the real one and where we want to be now. I don’t know why they have picked me and I think it is a bad mistake. They are bringing me in to get beat by this guy. He’s very good, he’s talented, big for the weight and the list goes on, really. I don’t think I am the right one for the job and you have brought in the wrong guy.

“I would have done exactly the same to every person he’s knocked out and that is no disrespect because he can only beat whoever is put in front of him. No, it is not a padded record, he’s had a couple of good wins, but I don’t think he has been in with someone yet who has really tested him and stuck it on him.

“On Saturday night we are going to see how he holds up to that.”

Hamzah Sheeraz
“I am just looking forward to it, I’ve put in the work and I don’t really have much to say. Saturday night, let’s go. He has always looked dangerous, to be fair, he’s got a lot of knockouts and the respect is there. I’d be a fool not to.

“In terms of this camp, I have prepared for the best version of him come Saturday night. In my head the best version still exists and, if I didn’t think otherwise, I wouldn’t have prepared like I have.

“It is my time to shine now. I know you hear that all the time, but if I win on Saturday in good fashion there are big things for me in 2024.

“I’d like to think he can take me into the second half of the fight because there needs to be a point in your career when you go past certain rounds to answer questions and whatnot. If that doesn’t happen I won’t be complaining.

“The ideal night is a Hamzah Sheeraz win, it all depends on that. For me to achieve my dreams and make people proud, I have to put on a performance. A stoppage is the plan and I don’t see why I can’t do it. The way I work and my mentality is elite level. I am rubbing shoulders with great champions in LA and only learning off them.”

Jamaine Ortiz plans to outshine the Showman on ESPN Tonight

LAS VEGAS, NV – Jamaine “The Technician” Ortiz (17-1-1, 8 KOs) is in the biggest fight of his career as he challenges Teofimo “The Takeover” Lopez (19-1, 13 KOs) for his Ring and WBO Junior Welterweight titles from the Michelob Ultra Arena and live on ESPN tonight.

Over the past few months, the Worcester, MA native had been campaigning for a high-profile bout against the top names of the lightweight and junior welterweight divisions.  From Shakur Stevenson to Devin Haney, Ortiz looked to match his skills against the best fighters in the world.  It was an old rival, however, who finally accepted the challenge.

“To be honest, I don’t know how this fight came to be,” admitted Ortiz on The Final Bell podcast only 9 days from fight night.  “I saw Teofimo at the Benavidez vs. Andrade fight, and a few weeks later, I got the call.”

The fight has all the makings of a classic at a time when the sporting world’s attention is on Las Vegas. Only 3 days before Super Bowl LVIII and just down the strip from where the game will be played, 2 Latin-American fighters from the Northeast will face off for junior welterweight supremacy.

“It’s a rivalry in the sense that we fought in the past,” says the 27-year-old, referencing their 2015 encounter when Lopez decisioned him to win the National Golden Gloves. “It was a very competitive fight, and we gotta get even on that”.

Both fighters subsequently turned pro at lightweight, with Lopez fighting under the Top Rank banner while Ortiz signed with CES Boxing

Lopez’s ascent to championship gold came quicker, with the Brooklyn native knocking out then IBF champion Richard Commey in 2019 and following that up with a decision win over Vasyl Lomachenko to add the WBA and WBO straps to his ledger. ‘The Takeover’ lost his lightweight belts in his next outing to Aussie upstart George Kambosos.  It was his last fight at lightweight, as the 26-year-old moved up to junior welterweight for 2 bouts before dominating Ring and WBO junior welterweight champion Josh Taylor over 12 rounds at Madison Square Garden last year.

Ortiz took a similar route.  ‘The Technician’ burst onto the national scene with a dominant victory over former WBO Super Featherweight champion Jamel Herring in 2022.  He followed up that impressive victory with a close decision loss to Lomachenko later that year. Despite the loss, Ortiz was given high praise from the media and Lomachenko, who recognized Jamaine as his toughest opponent to date.

Now co-promoted by Top Rank in addition to CES Boxing, Ortiz moved up to junior welterweight last year, outboxing Mexican veteran Antonio Moran over 10 rounds.  This set the stage for a showdown against Lopez, one of the biggest showmen of the sport.

“He’s a great fighter,” admits Ortiz of Teofimo.  “I think he’s the best at 140 right now. I feel like it’s a harder challenge [than Stevenson and Haney], but I can’t take anything away from the guys at the top. They’re world champions for a reason.  It takes a lot to get there, but I feel like once I beat Teofimo, I’ll be the top guy”.

The Technician sees a lot of similarities between himself and Lopez.  In fact, he believes that a key difference in the fight will be how Teofimo will react when faced with an opponent with similar qualities and strengths.

“There’s a lot more similarities,” says Ortiz, “but the key difference is gonna be who stays under control, and I feel like I’m always under control”.

Indeed, while Lopez can be as unpredictable outside of the ring as he is dynamic in the ring, the Worcester native of Puerto Rican and Dominican descent has a calm, cool demeanor that is more reminiscent of Miguel Cotto than of Feliz Trinidad.

However, that laid back nature does not mean that he is not as fast, tenacious, and technical as any fighter in the world, as Vasyl Lomachenko found out in their encounter.

“I don’t think Teofimo really faced another fighter who’s explosive,” agrees Ortiz.  “A fighter who likes to jump off their feet to punch like he does.  He’s gonna have challenges with my speed and my movement.  I think it’s gonna be a surprise for him when what he’s used to doing to others is being done to him”.

When asked if he believes that Lopez is fully focused on him, Ortiz dispels any notion that ‘The Takeover’ is looking ahead to fights against Terrence Crawford or Shakur Stevenson.

“I’m preparing like he’s focused 100% on me,” says Ortiz. “I don’t care what he says on social media. I know my focus is on him, and my preparation is for the best version of him. My eyes are locked in on him like as if his eyes are locked in on me, even if that’s not the case.  That’s how I’m coming.”

If his words are any indication, Lopez is sure to encounter an inspired Ortiz who is fully determined to bring the world championship back to Worcester, where his city will celebrate their newest champion.

“All the hard work has been done, and now we’re just putting everything together,” says Ortiz.  “I’m excited to fight for my first world title and ready to put on a show. You’re gonna see fireworks.  My whole city is behind me and they’re gonna have a nice celebration for me when I come back as champion. You’re not going to want to miss this fight.”

“The Showman Returns: Teofimo vs. Ortiz” takes place at 8:30pm tonight from the Michelob Ultra Arena in Las Vegas and live on ESPN.

Exciting Arab boxing prospects to be showcased on “Rising Stars Arabia 3” card

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates (February 8, 2024) – The third installment of the popular “Rising Stars Arabia” pro boxing series, which showcases developing Arab boxers on a worldwide platform, will be held Saturday, March 2, outdoors at picturesque Yas Links Golf Course in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

“Rising Stars Arabia 3” will be streamed live on DAZN and ESPN Knockout, as well as broadcast on Abu Dhabi Sports TV, starting at 8 p.m. UAEST.

The widely successful first two RSA events – September 9, 2023 and this past January 13th – have boxing fans greatly anticipating the return of the series to discover even more underrated veterans and promising prospects from the relatively untapped region.

The 10-round main event matches Moroccan super featherweight Jaouad “The Moroccan Bomber” Belmehdi (19-1-3, 9 KOs) against the No. 1 ranked Ghanaian and African star, undefeated Alfred Lamptey (13-0, 9 KOs).

Belmehdi is a former French Lightweight Champion riding a three-fight win streak. His most notable victories to date have been against 17-1 James Chereji, 13-1-1 Sebri Sediri (TKO1), and 19-2 Meyyl Vegas (TKO4). The 21-year-old Lamptey is a former World Boxing Council (WBC) Youth Silver, World Boxing Organization (WBO) Youth and Ghana super featherweight champion.

The Rising Stars Arabia (RSA) series, the first of its kind in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, is sanctioned by the Middle East Professional Boxing Commission. Western promoters generally don’t promote Arab talent, but now they must start promoting them due to promoter Ahmed Seddiqi’s vision and initiatives.

Hometown favorite Fahad “Kid Emirati” Al Bloushi (13-1, 3 KOs) is riding a 12-fight win streak into the eight round co-featured event versus Venezuelan lightweight Andres Garcia (14-7-1, 11 KOs). Al Bloushi has the distinction of being the most experienced Emirati boxer of all-time with 14 professional fights.

Undefeated United Arab Emirates super flyweight Sultan Al Nuaimi (10-0, 6 KOs) faces dangerous Eliu Canario (14-3, 11 KOs) in a 10-round bout, while promising Iraq light heavyweight prospect Amer Kadhum Ghaneem (3-0, 1 KO) takes on the toughest test of his young career, WBC Asian Continental Super Middleweight Champion Wulamu Tulake (11-3-1, 6 KOs), of China.

The most intriguing match-up on the undercard is a 10-round welterweight clash between Egyptian welterweight Abdumonem “Braveheart” Said (23-3-1, 11 KOs), a former Egyptian Super Welterweight Champion, and undefeated Indian Faizan Anwar (16-0, 8 KOs).

Other undercard bouts include a trio of four-rounders: Egyptian super welterweight Ramy Magdi (3-2-1, 0 KOs) vs. Issac Zebra, Jr. (2-0, 2 KOs), of Uganda; Egyptian cruiserweight Youssef Karrar (3-0, 2 KOs) vs. pro debuting Ukrainian Mykyta Ionin; Egyptian featherweight Mostafa Mohammed Fahmi Komsan (1-0, 1 KO) vs. TBA.

Morocco welterweight Anas Hafiane (2-0, 1 KO) vs. TBA, United Arab Emirates (3-0, 3 KOs) vs. Ariemba Isalah Odhiambo (1-4, 0 KOs), of Kenya, and Egyptian pro debuting cruiserweight Kenan Marai vs. Tonny Ssemakula (0-1), of Uganda, rounds out the undercard in a trio of four-round fights.

Card subject to change.

DILLON VS. BELLOTTI PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES

Frank Smith, Matchroom Boxing CEO:

“This is an unbelievable fight – these two going at it for the British and Commonwealth Titles. It’s what it’s all about. They’re going to go in there at a sold-out Indigo on Saturday night. We wanted to make this fight a while ago. Obviously when it was ordered it was a fight that made a lot of sense to us. Reece coming off the back of a great win, Liam is a tremendous as well. It’s a fight we’re excited for. They’re going to go all out on Saturday night. Whoever gets the win in this fight is moving on to some big nights. I’m excited for this one. We’ve worked with Reece for so many years now – that win against Aqib Fiaz was brilliant. It just shows, he’s waited for this moment for a long time. Liam is a tremendous fighter and the two of them are going to go at it. Everyone who is inside the Indigo is going to be in for a treat. Maybe we’ll see a couple of these.”

Liam Dillon:

“It’s my boyhood dream come true. The best fights were when they unified the British and Commonwealth Titles. I’m looking forward to this and hopefully seeing what the next step is. We’ve got a big stable down at RJ’s. As Reece said the British Title is the one belt that you want to win, so going in there with the British Title and everyone looking at it was great. We’ve got a big stable now and I think there will be a few British Champions down there in the next couple of years. Reece has been around for a long time. He comes to fight. I’m looking forward to a good scrap. I see a Dillon win. I’m going to be victorious.”

Reece Bellotti:

“I was after the British Title against Walsh and he obviously beat me, he was a good fighter. Like you say, anyone who starts out in boxing, mainly they want to win the British Title. It’s the best looking belt in boxing and it’s always been a title that I’ve wanted to win. I’ve got the chance Saturday night. My confidence is high, really high. I’ve been written off. I’ve had three back-to-back wins against good fighters. I probably wasn’t expected to win those fights either. I won them in good style. Dillon’s style and my style are bound to gel well and we’ll be in for a great fight. Nobody has gone looking for me yet, so I’m probably not going to change that. Our styles will make for a fan favourite fight.”

Cameron Vuong:

“I’d give myself and eight out of ten so far. I think I’ve showed a little bit of everything. My second fight I got a little bit of a telling off in the corner from Jamie, and I showed I can adjust. I’ve had two stoppages in three fights, went the distance obviously in my second fight. I feel I’ve shown a little bit of everything. I’m taking him very seriously. I know that he’s a very tough durable fighter. He’s been in with the likes of Dalton Smith and Harlem Eubank. I know he comes to win. He’s got a winning record and he’s a very tough man so I’m taking him very seriously. I’m 100% focused on Saturday night. I want to be in real fights. I want to be able to showcase my skills and on Saturday night I’ll do just that.”

Ishmael Ellis:

“We’ll find out on Saturday night if this is a step too far for Cameron this early on in his career. Obviously I’ve got losses on my record and that but like Cameron just said near enough every loss on my record has been to a real big name – Matchroom fighters and everything. I don’t come just to get rolled over or just come to collect the money. I’m coming to fight and win. I think it’s good for Cameron to have someone like me because I’m going to come and put it on him. I’m going to fight, I’m not just going to stand in there and roll over just to make him look good.”

Craig Richards:

“First of all I just want to say hello everyone. It’s good to be back. Obviously I thank Matchroom, Frank, Eddie and everyone for getting me back which is the most important thing. I might even do my post fight interview when I get in the ring before I fight – that’s just the main thing right now. I just want to get in there and fight right now. It feels good to be back. I want to get back to that World Title mix ASAP. I had that fight with Bivol some while back now. You’ve seen him go on to do great things but I feel like there were certain things I was missing from my game back then. I grown since then, learnt since then and got more experience. I’m not looking past Boris – Boris is a good fighter. My first focus is Saturday night but I’ve got aspirations to be pushing on to big things. I knew that Shane McGuigan would be able to show me more. i didn’t know he had THAT much more to show me. I didn’t know I had that much more ceiling. He’s very good at what he does. He watches what I do and gets the best out of me. He shows me my flaws and my strengths. It’s a work in progress. I’m just taking it step by step.”

Boris Crighton:

“To be honest at this short notice there’s not much that I can do as far as this man is concerned. On the night it’s all going to come down to how much I want it. With ten days’ notice it doesn’t matter how much you prepared or how much you’re not prepared. When you get a phone call it depends how much you want it and how much you want to win. It doesn’t matter what he brings to the table, all that matters is how much I want to win. That’s what matters to me. We play it by ear. You can’t go in there reckless with the level of fighter that he is. You want to take chances but at the same time you want to be calculated with your chances. You want to go in there and fight and put on your best performance – win or lose. He’s a top level professional. It’s like riding a bike – you don’t forget how to throw a jab or forget how to be defensive because you’ve had ten months out or however long you’ve had out. His will to win isn’t going to change because he’s been out of the ring for X amount of time. He’s got everything to lose and everything to prove.”

John Hedges:

“If you’ve seen the development of me since I turned pro, it doesn’t even look like I’m the same person. I’ve developed as myself and as a person – filling out naturally. It’s inevitable that I was going to be a Cruiserweight. I’m six foot six and I’m still only 21. The development is still going to carry on, even more so now. I’ve never been so comfortable in sparring and in training. Everything is just clicking in place now. Don’t get me wrong, it has done before, but when things feel right you know yourself don’t you. It’s ten months I’ve been out of the ring now. Activity is the main thing for me. I want to get back fighting regularly. If I could fight every month I would. That’s the main thing. I want to fight as much as I can. I’ve said it from the start – end of the year I want a belt around my waist. I’m not fussed what belt it is. I want to be moving in that direction. I’ve jumped into this fight with them aspirations. I’m not taking on no fool, I’m taking on a good fighter. It puts me in the right place and the right direction. Win at all costs but there’s no pressure.”

Shannon Ryan:

“When I first got the call I was obviously disappointed but then to know that I still can fight and there’s a title on the line – Matchroom, Eddie, Frank, 258 – thank you for that opportunity because it’s my first professional title fight and I’m excited for it. What’s going through my mind is that I’m going to put on a good performance and go and get that WBA International belt. I think the 10 rounds will suit me well. When I was doing the eights previously I was cruising through them. The 2 minutes are what we have to do, it’s quite short, it’s quite short – I would like three. I think ten 2’s will suit me perfect. I’m looking forward to it. What do I believe will happen? You’re going to get a spicy performance. I’m still sharp, I’m just super strong right now. My IQ has increased, I’ve improved yet again and I just can’t wait for you all to see pure chaos in the ring.”

Jasmina Zapotoczna:

“Hello everyone. I was very excited actually. I was like, ‘yeah let’s do this’. Shannon is a good fighter. I think it’s a massive opportunity for me, for us. Yeah, let’s do this. I can’t say too much obviously. I just love boxing. It doesn’t matter to me what skills and what plusses or minuses my opponent has got. I’ve just need to do my job, get in the ring and do whatever I can to win. Let’s put on a show.”

Jack Oliphant:

“First of all, what an opportunity to start off on such a big platform. It all feels surreal at the moment. When you’re an amateur all the way through it’s all you ever think about – the first day you turn pro. I’m excited. I’ve got to do a job. I’m going to do what I usually do – I’m not putting too much pressure on myself. I’m going to enjoy myself. As much as I appreciate being here and deserve it, I’m just going to do what I usually do and that’s it.”

Ibraheem Sulaimaan:

“I appreciate the Matchroom team bringing me on these shows and I’m just making the most of it. I’m just enjoying it. I’d give myself a five out of ten if I had to grade myself so far. I’ve got so much to show. I’ve got so much in the locker. The more I turn up the more I can bring out. On Saturday I’ve got an opponent that’s coming to win. He’s got power shots and he’s aggressive. It’s going to bring out the best in me.”

Emmanuel Odiase:

“First of all I would like to say a big thank you to Eddie Hearn, Frank Smith and the Matchroom Boxing team, and to my team at 258 for giving me this opportunity. It’s a great opportunity to have my UK debut over here in London. Matchroom – one of the biggest promotions in the world. ‘AJ’ is a big inspiration – he’s my idol. It felt surreal when I had the chance to spar him in 2021. After that it kind of moved quick, we stayed in touch and stayed in contact the whole time. Now his former coach Joby Clayton is my coach. Honestly I can say I love him because he has always been there for me. He takes the time, I call him and he picks up. He’s my role model and he’s my idol. I’m looking to step in the footsteps of him and achieve big things – become a World Champion one day as well. Maybe do even more than he has done. I’m super excited. The Heavyweight division is the biggest division in boxing.”

SHEERAZ TARGETS EUBANK BLOCKBUSTER

HAMZAH SHEERAZ IS hoping that, should he overcome Liam Williams in his biggest fight to date at the Copper Box Arena on Saturday, the marquee middleweight names on the British scene will accept an invitation to take him on.

The undefeated Sheeraz goes up against the two-weight former British champion and world title challenger Williams with his WBC Silver and Commonwealth championship belts on the line.

In the event of victory in London, Sheeraz aims to be rewarded for his sterling progression in the division with a blockbuster 2024 featuring fights against established names like Chris Eubank Jr or Liam Smith, along with the hugely popular British champion Nathan Heaney.

First of all, however, Sheeraz is fully aware that he has serious business to attend to on Saturday.

“I’m not and won’t look past Liam Williams as he is the priority,” said the Ilford 160-pounder. “I will sit down with my team and God willing I will know after Saturday’s performance that there is big names in the division for me to fight.

“Eubank Jr, Liam Smith or the British champion Nathan Heaney, that is the goal for me and, after Saturday night, everyone is going to see that I’m ready for those fights, inshallah.”

Tune in for Fight Night Live from the Copper Box Arena on Saturday from 7pm on TNT Sports 1.

VIDEO: Oscar Valdez vs Liam Wilson | Seniesa Estrada vs Yokasta Valle | KICK OFF PRESS CONFERENCE

Bad Blood: Seniesa Estrada & Yokasta Valle Face Off Ahead of UNDISPUTED Minimumweight Showdown March 29 LIVE on ESPN+

LAS VEGAS (Feb. 7, 2024) —WBC/WBA/Ring Magazine minimumweight world champion Seniesa “Super Bad” Estrada (25-0, 9 KOs) and WBO/IBF ruler Yokasta Valle (30-2, 9 KOs) went face to face for the first time Wednesday in Las Vegas. Their long-simmering feud will be settled Friday, March 29 at Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona, as the division’s first-ever undisputed champion will be crowned in the evening’s co-feature.

In the main event, Mexican former two-division world champion Oscar Valdez (31-2, 23 KOs) will face Australian former world title challenger Liam Wilson (13-2, 7 KOs) in a 10-round junior lightweight battle.

Valdez-Wilson & Estrada-Valle headline a stacked card streaming live and exclusively in the U.S. on ESPN+.

The undercard will feature the return of lightweight phenom Emiliano Fernando Vargas (8-0, 7 KOs) in a six-rounder.

Promoted by Top Rank, in association with No Limit Boxing, tickets are on sale NOW via Ticketmaster.com.

This is what the fighters, Top Rank chairman Bob Arum, and Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya, promoter of Valle, had to say.

Bob Arum

“This is one of the best fight cards of the year. Really great, talented fighters, very competitive fights. I really think the fans have a real treat in store, particularly those people living in Glendale, Arizona, and the vicinity because they are really rabid fight fans. They’ll turn out like they have before. We expect a full house on March 29.”

Oscar De La Hoya

“It’s great to be working with Bob Arum and Top Rank and making fights happen. I think this fight here was a fight that had to happen. I believe there’s a lot of animosity between the fighters. There’s a lot of competition, and the titles are at stake. History is at stake. Once again, Bob is making history. Bob continues to gives us the best fights, the best events. All I want to do is be like Bob when I grow up. I’m really happy to work with Bob and make this fight happen because the fans deserve it.”

Seniesa Estrada

“It’s not personal for her, but it’s personal for me for many reasons. I’m competitive. I’m hungry to become undisputed. This is the fight that I’ve been trying to make and wanting to make since I was with Golden Boy Promotions around the time they first signed me. I wanted to make this fight happen because I wanted to become undisputed. So, I’m just excited and fuc*ing hungry to become undisputed. I can’t wait for March 29!”

“It’s clear that I was promoted by Golden Boy Promotions. And Valle is always saying in interviews that I was ducking and running from her, which is completely false because there’s never been any effort from her side to make the fight happen. It’s always been from my side since the beginning. I told Golden Boy Promotions about her. That’s how they knew about her. So, I wanted it from the start.”

Yokasta Valle

“Champion versus champion. This is nothing personal. I just want to be a champion. I want to be undisputed. Seniesa has two titles. That’s what I’m looking for. Not her. Simply the world titles is what I’m looking for. That’s what I’ve been working towards for many years. Working hard, moving up divisions. 108, 105 pounds. All to become undisputed, and we’re one step away. We’re here, and I’m excited.”

“I visualize all of my fights, from the music I’m going to have, all the people screaming. And, God willing, all that’s left after that is for them to say, ‘And new undisputed champion, Yokasta Valle from Costa Rica.'”

Oscar Valdez

“I feel blessed to be on this card with these amazing fighters sitting next to me. I feel that I’m on their card. I feel like that’s the main event. It’s going to be a tremendous fight.”

“I definitely learned a lot from my last fight {a decision loss to Emanuel Navarrete}. We made mistakes in the ring. Sometimes, we go in with a game plan. Sometimes, that game plan doesn’t work.”

“I’m trying to become a world champion {again}. That’s every fighter’s dream. Of course he’s taking this fight seriously. So am I…. I respect Liam Wilson as a fighter and as a person. But inside that ring, I’m going to try to knock his head off. I’m going to do my best to win the fight and just win because I know winning this fight will get me closer to a world title shot. I really, really miss being a world champion.”

Emiliano Fernando Vargas

“A kid can dream, and with hard work, they come to fruition. So, I’m very, very grateful to be here. This is another opportunity on March 29 to showcase my skills in front of all my beautiful fans in Glendale, Arizona. Fight by fight, we’ll get there.”

BELLOTTI: “I’VE ALWAYS WANTED THE BRITISH TITLE”

Reece Bellotti will be aiming the win the prestigious Lord Lonsdale Challenge Belt at the second time of asking when he takes on reigning Super-Featherweight Champion Liam Dillon at the top of Matchroom’s latest NXTGEN card at Indigo at The O2 this Saturday February 10, live worldwide on DAZN

The Watford favourite (17-5, 14 KOs) challenged Cromer’s Ryan Walsh for the British Featherweight Title on the undercard of Dillian Whyte’s blockbuster rematch with Derek Chisora at The O2 in London in December 2018, falling short after finding himself on the wrong side of a split decision on the judge’s scorecards.

Five years on, the 33-year-old two-time Commonwealth Champion has a second chance to get his hands on the belt that he has dreamt of winning since he was a child – and ‘Bomber’ is predicting a crowd-pleasing barnstormer in the Capital with Chingford’s defending champion Dillon.

“Liam is a good fighter,” said Bellotti. “He’s tough. He’s a very tough man. He’s a come forward fighter. We’re both come forward fighters so it will be a good fight on the night. I can’t wait for it. I’m on the same mindset as him. It’s going to be a great fight for the fans and one for everyone to watch. It’s a fight we’ve always wanted. A fight we’ve always looked forward to. We were ready for the call and took the fight.

“100% this is the most important fight of my career. I’ve always wanted the British Title ever since I was a kid. When I started boxing, the British Title was always the one for me. Obviously I got beat against Ryan Walsh a few years back. I was gutted. Probably at that time I didn’t think I’d ever get another shot again at a British Title. I moved up a weight and now I’ve got my chance again I’ll take it with both hands.”

Following his loss to Walsh, Bellotti bounced back to winning ways against Josue Grandelli before suffering consecutive losses at the hands of Francesco Grandelli, Jordan Gill and Raymond Ford – but the Hertfordshire fighter never lost hope.

His brilliant resurgence started at the famous York Hall in April 2022 where he stopped Dean Dodge in seven rounds to pick up the vacant Southern Area Title. He then outpointed Youssef Khoumari at Wembley Arena the following year before inflicting a first loss on Aqib Fiaz to earn the Commonwealth strap last October.

“I’ve kept a strong mindset all of the time. There will always be bumps in the road. You can always come up against better fighters on the night. It happens quite often, you see it a lot around the world. I always dig deep and I always thought I was going to win more titles. I carried on and I did.

“I’m fully focused on winning the British Title and then pushing on for more belts this year. I’m trying to maximise myself and get as far as I can go. If that’s a potential shot at a World Title, I know it sounds crazy, then that’s what we’ll go for. I’m ready for it.”

Dillon vs. Bellotti headlines Matchroom’s latest NXTGEN card, exciting 21-year-old Cameron Vuong (3-0, 2 KOs) gets a fourth pro outing against the experienced Ishmael Ellis (14-7) over eight rounds at Lightweight, Crystal Palace Light-Heavyweight contender Craig Richards (17-3-1, 10 KOs) makes his long-awaited return to the ring in a ten-round contest with Glasgow’s Boris Crighton (12-4, 7 KOs), rising Watford Super-Flyweight star Shannon Ryan (6-0) faces Wakefield’s Jasmina Zapotoczna (6-0) for the WBA International Title, Takeley Cruiserweight John Hedges (8-0, 2 KOs) meets Germany’s Erdogan Kadrija (20-5, 12 KOs) over eight rounds, Greenwich Middleweight Jack Oliphant makes his professional debut against Swindon’s Jensen Irving (4-5) over four rounds, Birmingham Lightweight Ibraheem Sulaimaan (2-0, 1 KO) looks to maintain his unbeaten start to life in the paid ranks against France’s Jordan Patrick Tomosoni (4-0-1, 1 KO) and German Heavyweight prospect Emmanuel Odiase (1-0, 1 KO) fights for the second time as a pro against Belgium’s Amine Boucetta (8-9).

Saturday: Hamzah Sheeraz-Liam Williams Commonwealth Middleweight Title Showdown to Stream LIVE on ESPN+

Feb. 7, 2024) — Two of Britain’s best middleweights collide this Saturday, Feb. 10, as unbeaten standout Hamzah Sheeraz defends his Commonwealth title in the 12-round main event against former British champion Liam Williams at London’s Copper Box Arena.

In the 12-round co-feature, lightweight knockout artist Sam Noakes and fellow unbeaten Lewis Sylvester will battle for the Commonwealth, British, and WBC International Silver titles.

Sheeraz-Williams, Noakes-Sylvester, and additional undercard bouts will stream live and exclusively in the United States on ESPN+ at 2 p.m. ET/11 a.m. PT.

Sheeraz (18-0, 14 KOs) has dazzled in his nearly seven years as a pro and is riding a 12-bout knockout streak. He won the WBO European title in November 2019 with a sixth-round TKO over Ryan Kelly and defended that belt four times. Sheeraz had an active 2022, a 3-0 campaign that included a second-round stoppage over River Wilson-Bent for the Commonwealth title. Last August, he iced the previously unbeaten Dmytro Mytrofanov in two rounds. Williams (25-4-1, 20 KOs) is 2-1 since falling short to Demetrius Andrade in a 2021 bid for the WBO middleweight world title.

Noakes (12-0, 12 KOs) has ended his last four fights in four rounds or less. Last December, he knocked down Carlos Perez four times en route to a fourth-round TKO. He won the vacant Commonwealth title in 2022 with a fourth-round stoppage over Calvin McCord. Sylvester (13-0, 4 KOs), from Hull, England, captured the English title last July with a decision over Adam Cope and then defended it in October with a first-round TKO over the aptly named Jimmy First.

The London bill also sees the return of two-time light heavyweight world title challenger Anthony Yarde (24-3, 23 KOs), his second fight since his spirited effort against unified world champion Artur Beterbiev. The dynamic puncher faces Serbian boxer-puncher Marko Nikolic (32-3, 12 KOs) in a 10-rounder.

“Since we announced this event, I’ve had a wealth of promoters, managers and fighters who want to be part of March 15, the St. Patrick’s Day Weekend event at The Theater at Madison Square Garden and we’re very happy to have the opportunity to work with these select fighters for the added value they bring to the show.”

“It’s great to be promoting back at Madison Square Garden, The Mecca of Boxing. Ever since I managed Kevin Kelley in the late 90’s at MSG I realized the value of fighting at the Garden. Anytime we can promote at Madison Square Garden, it’s a golden opportunity.”

“I also want to give a big shout out to Dana White and UFC FIGHT PASS for all their support of 360 Promotions and Callum Walsh.”

Lou DiBella

“This is a really great event and really important to keep up our tradition of having a great show on St. Patrick’s Day. This is a card that’s set up in a tremendous manner. It’s great to see Nisa here, a New York City Police Officer, Reshat who has the talent to become a star in boxing and Cletus who’s like the Engelbert Humperdinck of boxing. Derrick Webster is the toughest opponent Joe Ward has fought. It’s time for Joe to step up and that’s why we made the fight.”

At Tuesday’s press conference, this is what the fighters had to say.

Teofimo Lopez

“I’m the big clown of the sport of boxing. I’ve got to make everyone laugh. I’ve got a big nose for a reason.”

“It’s great to be back. I’m glad to see the talents coming through. But this is only the beginning for me. I’m 26 years young. I’m not even in my prime yet.”

“We have a tremendous dance partner. He’s wanted this fight for awhile. And we’ll do our thing.”

“I’ve been to the top before at 135, beating the most decorated fighter at the time. Nobody wanted to face him. Now we’re back again. I beat the guy nobody wanted to fight again. So, I’ve looked it as I’ve gained it, lost it and I’ve gained it back again. I know what it takes to be great, which means to respect the ring and respect what it means to be a champion.”

Jamaine Ortiz

“There hasn’t been respect. It’s a fight. I’m coming here to take his head off. It is what it is.
There is a calm before the storm. you’ve got to know to keep control of your mind and body, especially before you go into battle.”

“I feel like I’m going to be the guy having the clown do whatever I want to do. It’s going to be that kind of show.”

“When I win Thursday night, it’s going to be a great night. I’m going to remember it for the rest of my life. It will be the day I became a world champion. It will be another step in my goal to getting other great fights and to continue building my legacy.”

Keyshawn Davis

“Pedraza said that he has all the experience. And he did fight a lot of great fighters. But he hasn’t fought me before. I don’t care about all the experience he has because he hasn’t fought me yet. So he’s going to see everything I bring to the table.”

“He’s a great fighter. He’s been in a lot of great fights for the sport of boxing. And I believe he’s good for the sport of boxing. But I feel like he’s got the biggest challenge yet in front of him. A young, hungry, real fighter. When that bell starts, I won’t be here to play. It’s going to be an action-packed fight. I’m definitely coming out victorious, but the fans are going to be the winners that night.”Jose Pedraza

“At this point of my career, it doesn’t matter who is my opponent. Keyshawn Davis is an excellent boxer. He doesn’t have the experience that I do in professional boxing, but he had a great trajectory in amateur boxing. He is an excellent boxer. It doesn’t matter what the record is. You have to face those challenges. It doesn’t matter if he’s a prospect, a veteran or a contender. You have to accept it. Let’s fight.”

“I prepared very well for this fight. I’ve come to do my job. I don’t look the result. But don’t misinterpret me. I do expect a great victory. But I don’t expect a particular result. I simply go to do a good job for the fans, so that they can leave happy.”Javier Martinez

“I represent Milwaukee so much because there aren’t a lot of boxers who come out of there. There’s actually a lot of talent there. But a lot don’t make it out. They don’t get those opportunities. So, I represent for them.”

Abdullah Mason

“It’s amazing. Everybody in my family pushes each other to be better. Not just in boxing. But to be better brothers and family members.”

“I’m going to take advantage of this spotlight. And I’m going to get hungrier and hungrier. We’re on our way to the top.”

Charlie Sheehy

“I love fighting in Las Vegas. I always dreamed of fighting here as a kid, so to be here where great fighters have been is good. I want to come out an execute a great boxing game plan. I want to hit and not get hit. I’ve been working with my trainer, Javiel Centeno, so hopefully you will all see improvements in this fight.”

Alan Garcia

“I always stay in the gym. I like to continue learning. I stay disciplined and do anything to keep my body ready. Staying focused is never a problem for me. I know what I’m here to do.”

DILLON: “I WANTED TO DO A TRADITONAL ROUTE”

British Super-Featherweight Champion Liam Dillon has a chance to add the Commonwealth Title to his growing collection of belts when he faces a resurgent Reece Bellotti at the top of a Matchroom NXTGEN card at Indigo at The O2 this Saturday February 10, live worldwide on DAZN

Chingford’s Dillon (13-0-1, 3 KOs), a former Southern Area and English Champion at 130lbs, claimed the vacant British Title via an all-action split decision win against Qais Ashfaq in Newcastle last July – dedicating the career-best win to his late sister Lauren.

Now the 28-year-old, who train’s out of RJ’s Boxing Gym in Brentwood under the guidance of Ross Pearce, gets the opportunity to headline a Eddie Hearn-promoted card against one of his “favourite fighters” – with the opportunity to collect the fourth title of his pro career since turning over in April 2017.

“I wanted to do the traditional route,” said Dillon. “I didn’t really want to skip belts. I think boxing is just about climbing the corporate ladder. I won the Southern Area, what’s next? English. Won the English then I got a Commonwealth Eliminator. Then that earned me a shot at the British Title. Now I’m getting the Commonwealth, so yeah it has been the traditional route. They’re the four main belts you want to win first before you start pushing on to International or World Titles.

“I’m mentally and physically in the best shape of my life. I can’t wait for this now; it’s a massive opportunity and I’m really looking forward to it. Winning the British Title was always my boyhood dream. They were always the best fights growing up. To unify it with the Commonwealth is even bigger, especially because I had such a hard fight in a Commonwealth Title Eliminator before I won the British.

“Reece was one of my favourite fighters growing up. I remember doing an interview years ago and I remember saying that Reece Bellotti was my favourite domestic fighter. He’s had a few losses but he still probably is one of my favourite fighters. He comes to fight, he gives it a go, he’s on a really good streak at the moment so that’s just really spurred me on more. To be at the Indigo at The O2 with all of my fans, I just can’t wait to put on a show. I think it’s going to be a great fight.”

Watford’s Bellotti (17-5, 14 KOs) is enjoying a three-fight winning streak across 2022 and 2023, with the ‘Bomber’ picking up the vacant Commonwealth Super-Featherweight Title last time out at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool by stopping Aqib Fiaz in eight rounds – the Oldham fighter’s first professional loss.

Dillon knows that he will have to be at his very best if he is to avoid a similar fate to Fiaz, and the respectful East Londoner says he is prepared to do whatever it takes to get his hand raised after what he predicts will be the toughest test of his promising career to date.

“I don’t know what he’s going to do,” said Dillon. “I feel like he’s got a few tricks up his sleeve for me. I’m just going to go for it – do what I do best. I find I fight better when I’m enjoying myself so there’s no point trying to do something that I don’t enjoy doing. I might as well just go in there and have a fight and if he does the same then he does the same and I think it will be great for everyone to watch.

“I think the British Title is a belt everyone wants. I don’t know if it’s going to be his last chance to win it, that’s not my position to say. He’s had a shot at the British before, he fell short. I remember watching that fight and thinking he might have nicked it – I think it was a split decision loss. He’s earned the shot again, he has definitely earned it as well coming off three massive wins. I know he’s going to give it all he’s got. Same here.

“He’s mandatory for the British and I’m mandatory for the Commonwealth. I’m the man in the way of what he wants and he’s the man in the way of what I want. I’m used to fighters punching hard. I’ve always been quite tough. I respect everyone’s power. He’s got a dig on him and he’s shown it – he’s got a high knockout ratio.

“I just concentrate on the man in front of me. I see it being a hard fight. I have no doubt that Reece is going to give me the hardest fight of my career. He’s experienced, he has punch power – I think he’s going to give me my hardest fight. Whatever I’ve got to do to get my hand raised, I’ll do it.”
