RETURN OF THE KING: BILLAM-SMITH VS MASTERNAK – PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES

BOURNEMOUTH, UK (December 8, 2023) – Chris Billam-Smith and Mateusz Masternak exchanged words at the final pre-fight press conference today ahead of their WBO World Cruiserweight Title clash at the Bournemouth International Centre on Sunday, December 10, live on Sky Sports in the UK and Ireland and Peacock in the USA.

A sold-out crowd awaits local hero Billam-Smith, who having realised his dream by winning the WBO World Title with a victory over Lawrence Okolie at the Vitality Stadium in May returns to Bournemouth for his first defence against the Polish powerhouse Masternak.

Masternak, who has shared the ring with many of the top names in the cruiserweight division throughout his impressive 52-fight career and who holds more knockout wins than Billam-Smith has had fights, will be aiming to spoil the champion’s homecoming party and fulfil his own world title ambition.

A stacked undercard features 2020 Olympic Medallists Ben Whittaker, who takes on Stiven Leonetti Dredhaj, and Lauren Price, who faces former European Champion Silvia Bortot, with both fighters looking to continue their rapid rise towards title contention.

Lee Cutler contests the vacant English Super Welterweight Title against Kingsley ‘Obi’ Egbunike in a potentially show stealing scrap, Michael McKinson and Musah Lawson battle for the WBC International Silver Welterweight belt, Lewis Edmondson returns against Dmytro Fedas and Francesca Hennessy faces Lucrecia Bellen Arrieta in her second pro bout.

PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES:

CHRIS BILLAM-SMITH:

“The dream was always to win the World Title at the Bournemouth Stadium and I got the opportunity to do that. Before that, we fought for years to get shows down here – and now we’ve had four back-to-back. We’ve got a great time with BOXXER and Sky Sports, we did our part to make it happen, and of course the fans who have turned out to create the amazing atmospheres that everyone loves. I can’t wait to walk out on Sunday as defending champion.

“People don’t have the time of their life, and then give up on life. That’s not how it works. For me, I’m a proud champion. Now I want to cement that legacy and on Sunday night, walking out in front of that crowd gives me goosebumps just thinking about it.

“As long as Masternak’s career has been, as many big fights as he’s had – I don’t think he would have ever experienced an atmosphere like this.”

MATEUSZ MASTERNAK:

“My journey in boxing has been going on for a long time. I believe the preparation for this fight has been magical. I believe on December 10th, the WBO belt will be mine.

“I had a deal with my wife. If I wanted a third baby, I had to become World Champion. Now my daughter is 5, so I have to keep my promise.”

BEN WHITTAKER:

“This year’s been a bit of a nuisance, a bit stop and start, but Sunday I’m back at it and in 2024 we’re going to really get the ball rolling again.

“There’s many things I can show on Sunday. I’ve showboated, I’ve done this, I’ve done that. I could just come in, break him down, and get out of there – who knows, we’ll see on Sunday.

“We’ve sparred. I asked for 8, and he left after 6.

“Sunday will be called The Italian Job.  Hopefully he’s not fearful because that’ll make for a better fight. I want him to come and bring the fight and try and bring something out of me that no-one else has. After I beat him on Sunday, we look on to 2024.”

LAUREN PRICE:

“This is a step up again. I’m a completely different fighter to Mayer and I think I’ll prove that on Sunday. I know Sylvia. She’s game, she’s tough, but I believe I’m a level above and I plan to have another solid performance on Sunday, then push on for a big 2024.

“In my last performance, I boxed a girl with an 18-1 record with 10 knock outs. In each fight I’ve stepped up and importantly this year I’ve stayed active. This is my 6th pro fight, and my 4th fight this year. When I’m active and I’ve been in the gym is when I’m at my best. I want to keep this momentum and put on a great performance on Sunday to show what I’m about. I want the winner of Mayer and Jonas in 2024.”

BEN SHALOM, BOXXER Founder and CEO:

“What a journey. To be defending the World Title back in Bournemouth is pretty incredible. We looked at this as simply a great fight.

“Sometimes watching Chris Billam-Smith as a promoter, you think ‘be a bit smarter, be a bit cleverer, don’t take the shots’, but he knows only one way. He gives us entertainment every single time. After the last performance, we wanted a great fight.

“Masternak has done the same throughout his career. He’s never fought for a World Title before which is remarkable to think about. To only have two losses on his record in 57 is special.

“I’m expecting a great fight. I know Masternak has been preparing for this for a long time. His team are ready for this. They believe this is their moment, but Chris wants to show that he’s world level and he’s here to stay at world level, to stay as world champion. This is the moment where he proves his dominance of the division.”

RETURN OF THE KING: Chris Billam-Smith vs Mateusz Masternak takes place on Sunday, December 10 at the Bournemouth International Centre and will be broadcast live and exclusively on Sky Sports in the UK and Ireland and Peacock in the USA.

This event is presented in association with official partners bet365EverlastWOW HYDRATEIntegritas Property Group and Who Dares Gyms.

BUSY WEEKEND FOR DIBELLA ENTERTAINMENT FIGHTERS

NEW YORK (December 8, 2023) This weekend, DiBella Entertainment fighters are staying busy with bouts in San Francisco, Toronto, and Dubai. Miyo Yoshida, Amanda Galle, Jessica Camara and Lucas Browne are all in action in separate bouts.

Two-time world champion Miyo Yoshida (16-4), of Kagoshima, Japan, will vie for her third world title in a second weight class when she faces Ebanie Bridges (9-1, 4 KOs), of New South Wales, Australia, for the IBF World Bantamweight Title on the undercard of the Devin Haney-Regis Prograis super lightweight championship at the Chase Center in San Francisco, CA. Their bout will open up the DAZN Pay-Per-View broadcast beginning at 8pm EST. Yoshida, who previously held the WBO Super Flyweight Title twice, was a late replacement for Bridges’ original opponent.

“A year ago, I moved to New York City with my daughter, and I am very honored to have been given the opportunity to compete for the world title in such a short period of time,” said Yoshida. “I left my stable life in Japan and came to the US with a strong determination to become a world boxing champion again in the United States. That dream is now becoming a reality. Ebanie Bridges is a great champion, but I want to prove by becoming a champion again that dreams always can come true if you don’t give up.”

Former WBA Heavyweight Champion Lucas “Big Daddy” Browne (31-4, 27 KOs), of Perth, Western Australia, will return to the ring on Saturday, following his war with Jarrell Miller earlier this year. He will face undefeated Russian southpaw Mark Petrovsky (6-0, 4 KOs) at the Agenda Arena in Dubai.

“I’m looking forward to getting in the ring and putting on a show,” said Browne. “This is an important fight for me, and a win will put me back on track. Of course, any time I can secure a victory with a highlight reel knockout is extra special to me. I know my opponent was a good amateur, but I’ve seen a few things that I can exploit. I’ve trained well for this bout, and now it’s about executing on the night.”

On Sunday, Amanda Galle (8-0-1, 1 KO), of Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, competes for her first world title when she faces Niorkis Carreno (24-3, 19 KOs) for the vacant IBO World Bantamweight Championship at the Rebel Entertainment Complex in Toronto. A three-time Canadian National champion and four-time Ringside National champion as an amateur, Galle captured the Canadian women’s super bantamweight title earlier in her pro career. Her opponent, Carreno, of Trujillo, Venezuela, is an experienced contender and three-time world title challenger. Galle is co-promoted by Lee Baxter Promotions, who is promoting the Toronto event.

“I’m on a mission to be what I’m destined to be,” said Galle. “On Sunday, December 10, it’s time to be in the world rankings and finally get on with the ultimate goal; being THE undisputed world bantamweight champion! I am made for this!”

Former world title challenger Jessica Camara (11-4, 2 KOs), of Montreal, Quebec, Canada, also fights on the Toronto card against Farina Roemling (5-1, 1 KO), of Cologne, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany, in a six-round super lightweight bout. In 2021, Camara challenged Kali Reis for the unified WBA/WBO/IBO Super Lightweight Championship, losing a very close split decision.

February 16: O’Shaquie Foster to Defend Junior Lightweight Crown against Abraham Nova at The Theater at Madison Square Garden LIVE on ESPN

NEW YORK (Dec. 8, 2023) — WBC junior lightweight world champion O’Shaquie “Ice Water” Foster hopes to cool off the latest challenger to his throne.

Foster, the fighting pride of Orange, Texas, will make his second world title defense against Abraham “El Super” Nova on Friday, Feb. 16 at The Theater at Madison Square Garden.

Promoted by Top Rank, in association with Murphys Boxing and 12 Rounds Promotion, ticket information and undercard fights will be announced in due course.

Foster-Nova will be broadcast live on ESPN, ESPN Deportes and ESPN+ at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT.

“O’Shaquie Foster wants to prove he is the best junior lightweight in the world, and he’ll have an opportunity to make that statement February 16 against a determined, powerful challenger in Abraham Nova,” said Top Rank chairman Bob Arum. “I look forward to another great fight night at The Theater at Madison Square Garden.”

Foster (21-2, 10 KOs) is unbeaten in 11 fights since a split decision loss to Rolando Chinea in July 2016. He returned to the ring in December 2017 with renewed purpose and decorated trainer Bobby Benton in his corner. Since moving to Houston to train with Benton, Foster has fulfilled the promise he displayed during a 100-plus fight amateur career that included a 2010 National PAL title and an alternate berth on the 2012 U.S. Olympic team. He won the WBC world title in February with a one-sided decision over Mexican standout Rey Vargas. Eight months later, he salvaged his title with a 12th-round knockout over Eduardo “Rocky” Hernandez. Hernandez had a sizable lead on two of the judges’ cards at the time of the stoppage. In November, Foster inked a long-term promotional pact with Top Rank.

Foster said, “It’s always been my dream to fight at Madison Square Garden, and what better promoter to make this all happen than Top Rank? As a kid, watching all the greats fight at MSG inspired me to want to be a part of the history that comes with fighting at such a legendary place. I’m ready to put on a show and keep proving that I’m the best fighter in the world.”

Nova (23-1, 16 KOs), born in Puerto Rico and raised in Albany, New York, had nearly 200 fights during a storied amateur career that included victories over Frank Martin, Richardson Hitchins, and Nahir Albright. Nova signed a co-promotional pact with Top Rank in early 2020 after spending his early career notching victories in Belgium, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Uruguay, and on club shows in the Northeast United States. In June 2022, he suffered his lone career setback, a one-punch knockout at the hands of champion Cuban standout and current world champion Robeisy Ramirez. Following the Ramirez defeat, Nova returned to junior lightweight and picked up wins over veteran Adam Lopez and former world champion Jonathan Romero.

“My team and I have earned this opportunity to bring a world title back home,” Nova said. “You know what I bring, and you know what I’m about. No fear, no doubt.”

VIDEO: Robeisy Ramirez vs Rafael Espinoza | PRESS CONFERENCE

Press Conference Notes: Robeisy Ramirez Ready to Defend Featherweight Crown against Rafael Espinoza

PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. (Dec. 7, 2023) — Robeisy “El Tren” Ramirez is ready to defend his world title in front of a crowd of Cuban supporters in South Florida.

Ramirez (13-1, 8 KOs) will defend his WBO featherweight crown against
unbeaten Mexican contender Rafael “El Divino” Espinoza (21-0, 18 KOs) this Saturday, Dec. 9 at Charles F. Dodge City Center in Pembroke Pines, Florida.

In the 10-round junior middleweight co-feature, Puerto Rican sensation Xander Zayas (17-0, 11 KOs) squares off against Spain’s Jorge Fortea (24-3-1, 9 KOs).

Ramirez-Espinoza and Zayas-Fortea will be broadcast live on ESPN, ESPN Deportes and ESPN+ beginning at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT

Promoted by Top Rank, in association with Zanfer Promotions, tickets are on sale at Ticketmaster.com.

The ESPN+-streamed undercard (5:40 p.m. ET/2:40 p.m. PT) features the return of rising featherweight Bruce “Shu Shu” Carrington (9-0, 5 KOs), who will take on former world title challenger Jason Sanchez (16-4, 9 KOs) in a 10-round bout.

U.S. Olympic silver medalist Richard Torrez Jr. (7-0, 7 KOs) will face Curtis Harper (14-10, 9 KOs) in an eight-round heavyweight battle.

The undercard also sees the returns of Dominican Olympian Rohan Polanco (10-0, 6 KOs) and U.S. Olympian Tiger Johnson (10-0, 5 KOs) in separate eight-round junior welterweight bouts.

At Thursday’s press conference, this is what the fighters had to say.

Robeisy Ramirez

“Aside from being very concentrated on this fight, I am also very excited and happy to be able to defend my world title in Miami, where I know my Cuban people will be in attendance. I’m excited for the show we’ll be delivering this Saturday.”

“Becoming a champion has been a change for the better. This includes the training because that is what has to change the most as you always have to be prepared for a great 12-round fight.”

“I have never struggled with taller fighters. But with regard to how I will fight, I leave that to my trainer, Ismael Salas.”

Rafael Espinoza

“This is a moment that all boxers hope for. I have been wanting this opportunity ever since I first put on a pair of gloves. Now I’m here. This means everything to me.”

“I always try to use my height advantage. My body has been blessed with this height, and I don’t even struggle to make weight. Obviously, I use it to my advantage, but like all Mexicans, I like coming forward, too.”

“My 21 fights are behind me, and what I have in front of me is this important opportunity, this world title fight.”

Xander Zayas

“I am very happy that he’s coming well prepared and that he had all the preparation in the world because I want the best Jorge Fortea that night. I will give the best version of myself. In my last fight, I showed why I’m made for this. This next fight will be the same.”

“I don’t feel like there’s anything special {about him}. The speed is something that could concern me. He’s not faster or stronger than me, but he does have some good speed.”

Jorge Fortea

“This is boxing. And anything can happen. I’ve prepared very well because they notified me of this fight ahead of time. Normally, I’m not notified ahead of time. That’s why I’m very prepared.”

“My goal right now is to win this fight. It will move me up the ladder and allow me to have more fights at this level.”

Richard Torrez Jr.

“I really do enjoy just being active. This kind of reminds me of the amateur days, where we’d have five fights in like five days. So sometimes it feels a little slow almost. But this is an amazing opportunity to be here to showcase all the training that we’ve been doing.”

“We’re prepared for the rounds. If the opportunity comes to have a knockout, I’m not going to pass it up. I go out there to showcase what I’ve been able to do, and if a punch lands, a punch lands.”

Bruce Carrington

“I’m really focused on this fight. But I also want to stay as consistent as I am. I love being inside the ring. This is my fifth fight this year. I want to give the fans more of me and more of what they want to see in 2024.”

“It’s really important for me to really put on a show for everyone so we can enjoy the holidays.”

Yoenlis Hernandez Set to Accelerate Towards World Title Glory with Warriors Boxing and Heavyweight Factory

TOLUCA, MX (December 6, 2023) – Unbeaten middleweight, Yoenlis Hernandez (2-0), one of the most decorated amateurs to ever come out of Cuba, is ready to take the professional boxing world by storm. He just signed a co-promotional deal with Warriors Boxing and Chris Lawrence’s Heavyweight Factory Promotions. He’ll be guided by manager Robert Valle who will handle all executive decisions.

Toluca, Mexico has become the new home for Hernandez, where he now trains under the mentorship of acclaimed boxing coach, Jacob “Panda” Majal, who also guides the corners of IBF Jr. Lightweight world champion Subriel Matias, IBF Bantamweight champion Emmanuel Rodriguez, and WBA #1 ranked super bantamweight contender Kevin Gonzalez, to name a few.

“I am beyond excited for the opportunities that lie ahead,” expressed Hernandez. “Training under ‘Panda’ Majal’s guidance has been very instrumental, and the co-promotion with Warriors Boxing and Heavyweight Factory is a testament to their belief in my abilities. I’m grateful for Robert Valle’s management as we take the next steps toward a world title.”

Training in Toluca, Mexico, is something Hernandez appreciates being that the elevation is over 8,000 feet. In addition, training alongside world champions is helping him create the mindset of a true winner. He plans to continue living in Mexico where he enjoys the vibrant boxing community and thrives in the high-altitude training environment.

“Living and training in Mexico have been incredible,” continued Hernandez, who captured Gold at the 2021 AIBA World Boxing Championships. “Toluca’s elevation over 8000 feet has elevated my conditioning and skill set. I am eager to build a strong fanbase in Mexico while pursuing my dream of becoming a world champion.”

Hernandez is poised to ascend rapidly in pursuit of a world title as he will jump on the fast track to a world title. Hernandez’s next bout is scheduled for January 20, 2024, where he will fight for a WBA regional title in a highly anticipated bout at the popular Hard Rock Cafe in Hollywood, Florida. This pivotal moment marks a significant step in his journey towards a world title fight.

“I am honored to bring my talents to the ring at the Hard Rock Café, and I intend to put on a spectacular show for the fans,” added Hernandez. “Fighting for a regional title will help me with the rankings and solidify myself as a top contender in the middleweight division. I’m grateful to me team for everything they do for me. I won’t let them down.”

Luis DeCubas Sr. of Warriors Boxing, the person responsible for establishing Hernandez in Mexico, believes he has the talent to follow in the footsteps of recent fighters making a name in boxing at the world class level.

“We have plans to put Hernandez in some challenging fights right now,” stated DeCubas Sr. “He had an incredible amateur career and he’s ready dominate in the pros. Like David Morrell Jr. and Yoenis Tellez, he’ll be fighting at the world class level from here on out. Also, I have to mention that the Hard Rock Café will be his home, as they have big plans to build him in South Florida, where there is a high population of Cubans.”

“I’m excited about Hernandez’ future,” manager Robert Valle stated. “We have a great team in place and I’m confident we can guide him to a world title in the next year or two. He has a great attitude and his coached by “Panda” one of the best young trainers in boxing.

“We have big plans to promote some great fighters and Hernandez is at the top,” said Chris Lawrence of Heavyweight Factory Promotions. “Leon Margules and Luis Sr. are veterans of the game and have guided many fighters to become world champions. Top Rank Boxing on ESPN presented by AutoZone: Ramirez vs. Espinoza will be presented live this Saturday, December 9, at 10:00 p.m. ET/ 7:00 p.m. PT, on ESPN, ESPN Deportes, and ESPN+ from Charles F. Dodge City Center in Pembroke Pines, Florida.

In the main event, Cuban WBO featherweight world champion Robeisy “El Tren” Ramirez puts his belt on the line against unbeaten Mexican contender Rafael “El Divino” Espinoza

Two-time Olympic gold medalist Ramirez (13-1, 8 KOs) made significant strides in 2022 under trainer Ismael Salas, securing victories against Eric Donovan, Abraham Nova, and Jose Matias Romero. He continued his success in 2023 by capturing the WBO featherweight world title with a unanimous decision win over former world champion Isaac Dogboe and defending it with a fifth-round TKO against Satoshi Shimizu in July, establishing himself as a dominant force in the 126-pound division.

After more than a decade in the professional ranks, Espinoza (21-0, 18 KOs) is set for his first shot at a world title. With a towering height of 6’1″, he boasts a significant seven-inch height advantage and enters the title bout on a five-fight knockout streak, including stoppage wins this year over Rafael Rosas Ramirez and Ally Mwerangi.

In the 10-round junior middleweight co-feature, Puerto Rican sensation Xander Zayas squares off against Spain’s Jorge Fortea.

Zayas (17-0, 11 KOs), who signed with Top Rank at 16, has been steadily rising since his pro debut in October 2019. In 2022, he secured wins over Quincy LaVallais, Alexis Salazar, and Elias Espadas, followed by victories over Ronald Cruz and Roberto Valenzuela Jr. in 2023. With his third win of the year, he aims to solidify his position as a title contender.

Fortea (24-3-1, 9 KOs), a 13-year pro from Spain, is coming off a decision win over the previously unbeaten Ismael Flores in April. He is riding a three-bout winning streak and is a former WBC Latino 154-pound belt-holder.

HANEY AND PROGRAIS FACE-OFF AS BLOCKBUSTER BATTLE EDGES CLOSER

Devin Haney and Regis Prograis came face-to-face for the first time in fight week – signaling the countdown is on to their blockbuster battle for the WBC World Super-Lightweight title at Chase Center in San Francisco on Saturday night, live on DAZN PPV in North America and on DAZN worldwide

Tickets have being flying as elite boxing ends a lengthy absence from the Bay Area, and there was no better spot than the famous Golden Gate Bridge to better signify the massive night ahead for both men.

Unbeaten Haney is looking to bridge the five-pound gap between the Lightweight division he left behind holding all the belts, and the 140lb division he seeks to rip the WBC belt from ruler Prograis and become a two-weight King in his first pro fight on home turf.

Defending champion Prograis has no intention of surrendering the green and gold though, and the New Orleans man is in no mood to let Haney reach the other side where the unification battles that ‘Rougarou’ craves are waiting.

Haney and Prograis will face-off two more times ahead of Saturday’s action, and fans can watch both the press conference and the weigh-in live on Matchroom’s YouTube channel – but can get even closer to the action on Friday lunchtime, with free entry to the weigh-in at Chase Center on Friday, with information on how to get tickets to be released tomorrow morning (Wednesday).

GALLE-CARRENO FIGHT WEEK

Fight Week has arrived here in Toronto, Canada for a night of World Championship Boxing presented to you by Lee Baxter Promotions. Canada’s Amanda Galle faces 3x World Title Challenger, Niorkis Carreno, for the vacant IBO World Bantamweight Title in a 10×2 minute round contest.

Amanda Galle (8-0-1 1KO), of Mississauga, Ontario, was three weeks out from her first shot at the world title when hearing of her opponent’s hand injury, that led to the fight being pushed back a month. With Galle’s experience in both the amateur and professional ranks, she won’t let this affect her preparation or performance on the night. Winning titles is nothing new to Galle, as an amateur she won numerous Canadian National titles, was 4-time Ringside World Amateur Boxing Champion and since turning over to the pro ranks she has won the Canadian Super Bantamweight Title against World Title challenger, Tania Walters. Galle’s previous matches have ultimately been preparing and leading her towards the heights of our sport, the World Championship. Different date, but same plan for Galle, to win the World Title in front of her hometown fans.

In the other corner stands, Niorkis Carreno (24-3 19KOs) of Venezuela. Carreno has previously challenged for the WBC Minimumweight, WBO Flyweight and most recently the WBO Bantamweight World Title against Danish star, Dina Thorslund. Falling just short in her three pervious World Title shots, Carreno is not willing to let a fourth chance at the title slip away from her. Carreno is a clinical finisher, stopping 19 of her 24 opponents within the distance. Both fighters are ready to do what it takes to be victorious on the night.

Two undefeated fighters are putting it all on the line for the Canadian Cruiserweight title. Toronto’s Peter Nowaczek (4-0 3KOs) takes on the champion, Salar Gholami (6-0 3KOs) for the Canadian strap in an 8-round contest. Nowaczek and Gholami have previously sparred together and have a good knowledge of each other’s styles, which adds an interesting factor to the match.

Josh Lupia (12-0 10KOs) continues to impress as the welterweight takes on Ismael Urieta (15-9-1 10KOs). Since his return to the ring in July 2022, Lupia has been making statement after statement. Last time at REBEL, Lupia beat Lanardo Tyner. Tyner has previously shared the ring with the likes of Lamont Peterson, Jessie Vargas and Saul Canelo Alvarez.

Top Canadian prospect, Moe Zawadi (6-1-0 5KOs) is back in action against Gregory Miller (2-7-0 2KOs). Hard-hitting Zawadi earned himself a highlight reel knockout over fellow Canadian, Marco Parente, last time at REBEL. The tough and more seasoned Miller will look to use his experience to upset the younger Zawadi.

A rematch is on the cards for Ross Mylet (9-1-1 2KOs) and Luis Vara Carrillo (6-9-5 2KOs), a draw last time out left fans looking forward to the rematch. Canadian Bantamweight Champ, Mylet looks to settle the score on December 10.

Cameroon native, Stephane Fondjo (11-1-0 9KOs) makes his Canadian debut. Fondjo is the WBC Middle Eastern and WBA Asian South Super Middleweight champion. He is taking on Isreal Nava Lopez (3-3-0 2KOs).

Undefeated Super Middleweight, Nawid Zaman (2-0 1KO) makes his first appearance on a Lee Baxter card. Zaman, who is proving to be a fan favourite, will face Eliseo Ramirez Perez (1-4-1 0KO).

Former World Title challenger, Jessica Camara (11-4-0 2KOs) is also on the card. Pushing towards another shot at the World Title, Camara is currently ranked No1 in the WBC Super Lightweight rankings.

Tickets can be purchased on ticketmaster.com. For VIP Booths, please email sales@leebaxterpromotions.com. REBEL Entertainment Complex is located at 11 Polson Street, Toronto, Ontario, M5A 1A4.

LONG BEACH, CA (December 5, 2023) – Super featherweights, George “El Yuyu” Acosta (16-1, 3 KOs) of Whittier, CA, and Richard “El Castigo” Medina (15-1, 8 KOs) from San Antonio, TX, are scheduled to meet this Saturday, December 9, 2023, on CBN Promotions’ “New Blood” card. Both fighters are eager to show their worth as they discuss their recent preparations. New Blood will take place at Thunder Studios in Long Beach, CA.

Televised fights will broadcast live in Spanish on FOX Deportes, and the entire card will stream live on, www.FightStars.Network?. In addition, fans will be able to see the fights tape delayed on Estrella TV.

The 10-round main event will feature Brandon “Leon” Benitez (20-2, 8 KOs) of Queretaro, Mexico, vs. Rigoberto Hermosillo (14-4-1, 9 KOs) of Los Angeles, CA, for the WBO / NABO featherweight title. Also on the card will be WBC super flyweight Interim world champion Adelaida “La Cobra” Ruiz (14-0-1) of Los Angeles, CA, squaring off against Mayela Perez (19-26-4, 10 KOs) of Saltillo, Mexico.

Here is what Acosta had to say about his recent training camp, his upcoming matchup with Medina, fighting on FOX Deportes, and more.

On his recent training camp:

“Being that this is going to be one of my toughest fights, I’ve taken my training to the next level. I had some great sparring and I’m in excellent shape, fully prepared to put on a great show. My strength and conditioning was fantastic, I’m ready to go.

On his upcoming fight with Richard Medina:

“Medina is a fighter, like me, with only one loss. He’s coming into this fight with something to prove. This is going to be an all-action fight because we both need to keep winning to get to the next level in this division. I’m expecting him to be in great shape, so I’m prepared to go the full eight rounds.”

On making his FOX Deportes television debut:

“Fighting on FOX will be a great opportunity for me to get some televised exposure. I have a lot of family and friends that will be tuning in. It’s always important to put on exciting fights on TV, so I’ll be letting my hands go. This will not be a boring fight, that I can assure.”

On what a win will do for his career:

“A win against Medina will help me get to a bigger fight at super featherweight. Since I’ve moved down from lightweight, I feel the difference and I’m much bigger and stronger. A tremendous amount of doors will open up with a victory.”

Here is what Medina had to say about his recent training camp, his upcoming matchup with Acosta, training in Las Vegas, and more

On his recent training camp:

“I’ve been training in Las Vegas for the last few months with Jorge Capetillo who will be the lead in my corner with my dad. My fight with JoJo Diaz fell through at the weight-in when he didn’t make weight, so I was forced to get back in the gym. Fortunately, this fight was presented so I took it immediately because I know I’m in great shape.”

On his upcoming fight with George Acosta:

“I’ve seen a lot of his fights, and he does many things well. He’s long with a good reach and he’s always in tip top shape, but I see some aspects of his game that I know I can take advantage of. We have a great game plan set, and if need be, we have plan B and C. It’s going to be a great fight for the fans.”

On making his FOX Deportes television debut:

“I’m very excited to be fighting on FOX Deportes, since all my family and friends back home in San Antonio will not be able to make it. They will all be tuning in from home, so I’m happy about that. MEXICAN SUPERSTAR JAIME MUNGUÍA TO FACE HIS TOUGHEST CHALLENGE YET AGAINST WAR VETERAN JOHN “THE GORILLA” RYDER

PHOENIX, ARIZONA (December 5, 2023) – In a fight that could seal his fate to become the next face of Mexican boxing superstardom, the undefeated, former World Champion Jaime Munguía (42-0, 33 KOs) will battle former Interim World Champion John “The Gorilla” Ryder (32-6, 18 KOs) of the U.K. in a 12-round super middleweight clash. The explosive fight night, which is presented in association with Zanfer Boxing and Matchroom Boxing, will take place at Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona on Saturday, January 27 and broadcast worldwide on DAZN.

Tickets for Munguía vs. Ryder will go on sale Thursday, December 7 at 10:00 a.m. MST and are priced at $200, $150, $100, $75, $50 and $30 plus applicable fees. A limited amount of Golden Boy VIP Experience tickets will also be available for purchase with exclusive merchandise and fight night upgrades included. Standard and VIP tickets can be purchased at Ticketmaster.com or GoldenBoyPromotions.com.

“I am very happy to return to the ring, and I’m excited to be with my people from Phoenix,” said Jaime Munguía. “We know that Ryder is a dangerous rival, but we are prepared for it. We have not stopped training and preparing. I am also very happy to have added Freddie Roach and his team to my camp. We are going to give a great night of boxing to everyone watching, and if we overcome this great test, I hope to see you all again in May. Viva Tijuana and Viva Mexico!”

Jaime Mungía was last seen in June 2023 winning the WBC Silver Super Middleweight Championship against the rugged, former world title contender Sergiy Derevyanchenko in a masterful performance that was lauded as a Fight of the Year Candidate. Munguía has held the WBO Super Welterweight title from 2018 to 2019, successfully defending it five times.

“I’m glad this fight has been made,” said John Ryder. “I’m looking to kick 2024 off with a bang and make a statement come January 27.”

John Ryder displayed his other-worldly toughness when he went the distance with the current, undisputed world champion and star of boxing, Canelo Alvarez last May 2023. He has dispatched a number of top contenders, the most notable being Daniel Jacobs in 2022. He is currently ranked the No. 5 super middleweight by Ring Magazine.

“On January 27, the next Mexican superstar of the sport will officially be crowned — and his name is Jamie Munguía,” said Chairman and CEO Oscar De La Hoya. “Whether it’s in person or at home on DAZN, fans shouldn’t miss watching Munguía do what Canelo couldn’t — knock John Ryder out.”

“We are happy about Jaime’s return to the ring,” said CEO of Zanfer Boxing Fernando Beltran.”We are going to show everyone that Munguía is here to fight anyone, we are going to give a great night of boxing to the people of Phoenix and the entire world. Que Viva Mexico!”

“I am delighted that we’ve been able to deliver another massive fight for John,” said Matchroom Chairman Eddie Hearn. “Last time out, it was Canelo in Guadalajara – assignments in boxing don’t get much more intense than that, but John handled himself superbly, delivered one of the bravest performances I’ve seen and won plenty of new fans. John’s reward is another fight with a brilliant Mexican fighter. Jaime is a massive talent and a future superstar of the sport – but we believe John is the biggest test of his career, and we’re confident John will hand Jaime a first defeat.”

“Finally, the wait is over,” said Alfie Sharman, VP DAZN. “This is one of the biggest fights the UK will ever see. We knew how big the fight was going to be the first time around – the interest was off the scale – but this time it feels even bigger. DAZN wants to offer the biggest and best fights to our subscribers, and this certainly ticks those boxes, so tune in live and exclusively on DAZN.”
Munguía vs. Ryder is a 12-round fight presented by Golden Boy Promotions in association with Matchroom Boxing. The event will be available worldwide to all subscribers on DAZN, both live and on demand.

AZIM DEFENDS EUROPEAN TITLE AGAINST POULSEN ON BUATSI-AZEEZ UNDERCARD

LONDON, UK – December 5, 2023 – Adam Azim makes the first defence of his EBU European Super Lightweight Title against undefeated former champion Enock Poulsen on Saturday, February 3rd at The OVO Arena Wembley in London, live on Sky Sports in the UK and Ireland, and Peacock in the USA.

Azim and Poulsen’s European Title clash will provide star support for the hugely anticipated WBA World Title Final Eliminator bout between unbeaten #1 and #2 world ranked light heavyweights Joshua Buatsi and Dan Azeez that headlines a massive night of boxing in the capital.

Azim (10-0, 7 KOs) dethroned Franck Petitjean in front of a capacity crowd in Wolverhampton last month to be crowned European king. A spectacular feat for the 21-year-old, who became the quickest Englishman to win the European Title, surpassing the achievements of former champions Spencer Oliver and ‘Prince’ Naseem Hamed, also making him the first British-Pakistani to lift the blue and gold belt.

Poulsen (14-0, 5 KOs) is no stranger to European success himself, having also defeated Petitjean to claim the title in April 2022. The undefeated Dane, who was ringside to watch Azim’s crowning moment, believes he is the rightful holder of the belt having never lost it in the ring and is eager to recapture his title and end Azim’s meteoric rise.

Adam Azim, defending EBU European Super Lightweight Champion, said: “I’m looking forward to defending my European Title on a big show. Enock Poulsen is a good opponent but I’m levels above him and I’m going to show that on February 3rd. He hasn’t faced anyone like me before.”

Enock Poulsen, said: “This title is mine and right now he’s only borrowing it. I will take it back and I will beat Azim in his own hometown. Azim has never faced a good opponent, yet he’s very hyped in the UK. In this fight against me, I’m sure he will lose. I want to be on the big stage. I want to prove to everyone that I’m the real EBU Champion. To win would mean everything.”

Ben Shalom, BOXXER Founder and CEO, said: “Adam Azim announced himself on the big stage by winning the European Title in just his tenth fight. Now he’s taking on an undefeated fighter. Someone who has held this belt himself, never lost it in the ring, and believes himself to be the rightful champion. This is a great addition to a stacked show at The OVO Arena Wembley on February 3rd. We believe we’ve got a future world champion on our hands with Adam, but he faces a huge acid test with Enock Poulsen which he needs to come through to keep himself in contention.”

This event is presented in association with official partners Everlast, WOW HYDRATE, Integritas Property Group and IFX Payments.

Tickets start from £30. Sign up now for pre-sale tickets at BOXXER.com. Pre-sale begins on Wednesday, December 6th at 12pm and general sale tickets are available from Thursday, December 7th at 12pm.

Existing ticket holders will be contacted by their ticket provider within the next 7 days to arrange the transfer of their tickets from The O2 to The OVO Arena Wembley. Any customers unable to make the rescheduled date will receive a full refund.

JOSH KELLY FACES COLOMBIAN KO ARTIST IN SUNDERLAND HOMECOMING AS INJURY FORCES KNAPP OUT

Josh Kelly will now face Colombian KO artist Placido Ramirez when he returns home to fight in Sunderland on December 16, live on DAZN.

‘Pretty Boy’ was due to face the dangerous Roarke Knapp but injury has forced the South African out of their super welterweight showdown at the Beacon of Light.

In his place comes Ramirez, the big-punching 29-year-old who heads to Wearside next week knowing that he can catapult himself into world title contention by wrecking Kelly’s homecoming party.

Kelly, ranked as the No1 contender on the planet, will be fighting in Sunderland for the first time as a professional and knows Ramirez represents a major threat to his big plans for 2024, which include a world title tilt and a fight at the Stadium of Light.

Also added to the event is one of British boxing’s most exciting young fighters, Tom Welland

The 19-year-old announced himself to the paid ranks with a devastating fourth round stoppage win on his debut in Brighton last month.

And Welland joins Newcastle’s Dan Toward, fresh from his stunning debut knockout triumph in Bolton on Friday night, as Wasserman Boxing showcases two of the country’s brightest young stars on DAZN.

Hard-hitting Kazak Tursynbay Kulakhmet, a former World Amateur Championships medalist, is another top-level addition to the card, which is delivered in association with William Hill, and he joins local stars Ben MarksbyHarvey Lambert and Travis Waters as well as Romanian Andrei Dascalu

The IBF world middleweight title eliminator between Denis Radovan and Andrei Mikhailovich has been postponed, however.

A muscle injury to Germany’s Radovan means he won’t be fit for the final eliminator which was due to act as the co-main event on December 16.

Radovan is ranked No3 with IBF and knew victory in Sunderland would land him a shot at world champion Janibek Alimkhanuly, but injury means the unbeaten 31-year-old must now wait to secure his chance.

Kalle Sauerland, Global Head of Boxing at Wasserman Boxing, said: “Out goes one dangerous opponent, and in comes another, for Josh Kelly’s huge homecoming show on December 16.

“The threat posed to Josh’s plans for next year remains high with Ramirez, who comes to the UK next week, with 17 knockouts on his record, nothing to lose and everything to gain.

“But Josh is the one of this country’s best fighters and the change of opponent has not changed his laser-focus on delivering a performance for his Sunderland fans to be proud of, but one that also sends out a statement of intent for next year.

“Make no mistake, 2024 is gearing up to be Josh Kelly’s year and a big win on December 16, on DAZN, sets that up perfectly.”

Rising Irish star welterweight prospect Paddy “The Real Deal” Donovan Psyched to headline at home in Limerick and fight in New York City

NEW YORK (December 4 , 2023) – Fresh off his scintillating knockout of English welterweight champion Danny Ball (13-2-1, 6 KOs), newly crowned World Boxing Association (WBA) Continental Welterweight Champion Paddy “The Real Deal” Donovan (12-0, 9 KOs) gained invaluable exposure worldwide by fighting on a DAZN pay-per-view headlined by the rematch between Irish superstar Katie Taylor (22-1) and previously undefeated, unified world super lightweight champion Chantelle Cameron (18-1), that was streamed live from 3Arena in Dublin, Ireland.

The 24-year-old Donovan lit up the sellout crowd with his fan-friendly style of boxing, displaying superior hand and foot speed, as well as dynamite in his hands as he picked up the pace in the third round, followed by an explosive fourth when he closed the show.

Donovan lived up to his nickname and pre-fight hype, cracking Ball with a powerful left that rocked his world. The game Ball somehow stayed upright, at least temporarily, but Donovan trapped him in a corner and unleashed nearly a 50 punch-barrage, mostly unanswered, decking his opponent with a vicious body shot as he moved out of the corner. Ball’s corner wisely threw in the towel before the judge’s count started.

“I looked in my corner (in the fourth round),” Donovan noted, “and Andy (Lee, his head trainer) said to go get him. I did! There was a lot of pressure to deliver in Ireland because there was a lot of talk about me fighting. The crowd anticipated my fight, and I handled it well. The fight went as good as I could have dreamed. I knew I had the talent but my maturity at 24 is where I’ve improved the most this past year. It went as we trained, and I knocked him out in the fourth round. My footwork was good, I set-up my shots and came out of the fight without a scratch. This was my best fight to date.”

In a post-fight press conference, Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn proclaimed Donovan the newest Irish boxing superstar, in addition to indicating that he’s interested in promoting a fight in Paddy’s hometown of Limerick with him headlining.

“Superstars are made on the big stage and Ireland have a new superstar in Paddy Donovan,” Hearn stated. “I truly believe that. He’s flashy, he’s skillful, he’s a good-looking fella…. He’s a champion now moving to championship fights, but everybody loved seeing that fight.”

“We like to see new talent emerge in Ireland,” Donovan said. “I’m set to move into the limelight.”

Eddie Hearn talked about a show in Limerick with me headlining. We haven’t had boxing here in the last 10-15 years and this would possibly be the biggest boxing event ever in Limerick. If that fight doesn’t happen next, we’re also looking to fight in New York City, possibly on St. Patrick’s Day at Madison Square Garden.”

Not only is Limerick-native Lee (35-3-1, 24 KOs), the former World Boxing Organization (WBO) Middleweight World Champion, Donovan’s chief second, he also co-manages Paddy with New York-based attorney Keith Sullivan.

Lee added, “That’s (fight vs. Ball) just a taste of what he can do. There’s a lot more to come from Paddy. We can bring Matchroom to Limerick for a world title fight.”

(L-R) – Paddy Donovan & Keith Sullivan

“As sensational and important as the win was,” Sullivan remarked, “it’s behind us now and we are already looking forward to the next match. Paddy will be in New York City this week for sparring and Andy and I will discuss Paddy’s options with him. A fight in Limerick, as Eddie Mentioned, would be magical, so too would one in New York City with its massive base of Irish fans. We’ll have to wait and see who is available and what makes the most sense for Paddy’s career.”

As much as Donovan appreciates the fame-and-glory journey he’s officially embarked on, Paddy’s never forgotten where he comes from, and he’s all for giving back to the next generation of Irish youth.

“I owe thanks to a lot of people who stood by me and kept me off the streets,” Donovan explained. “What I really enjoy the most are the kids. I know what they feel when I meet them because I was the same way growing up and meeting Andy Lee and other Irish boxers. Kids here look up to their role models and I want to inspire the next generation in Ireland.

“There hadn’t been big boxing cards in the last 7-8 years. Eddie started doing big-time boxing again in Ireland.”

Despite his youth, Donovan is also savvy enough to take advantage of opportunities like the platform provided by fighting on a card headlined by Katie Taylor. Donovan dedicated his last fight to Pieta, using his boxing platform to promote the suicide prevention charity that provides mental health services throughout Ireland. Paddy lost two relatives to suicide. The Pietra Crisis Helpline, 1-800-247-247, offers crisis intervention support, 24 hours a day 365 days a year, to anyone experiencing suicidal thoughts or engaging in self-harm and also supports those bereaved through suicide.

“Being Irish,” Donovan concluded, “I wanted to fight on the highest level, not only for my boxing career, but for Pietra House too. We want to help people with mental health problems, especially those thinking about suicide, and it’s great to get information about Pieta into their heads. If I can get somebody to call that number and change their life, I think my deed is done on this earth.”

“Pandemonium at the Palladian 2” Shaping up as best 2023 top-to-bottom card in New England

QUINCY, Mass. (November 4, 2023) – Top-to-bottom, “Pandemonium at The Palladium 2,” presented by Granite Chin Promotions (GCP), has the potential to be the best overall 2023 professional boxing card held in New England, featuring competitive, entertaining fights to showcase many of the most popular and talented prizefighters in the six-state region.

All of the action will be streamed live on BXNGTV.com from the famed Palladium in Worcester, Massachusetts. GCP has partnered with Project New Hope, a Worcester-based charity that supports veterans and their families.

The 10-round main event for the vacant Junior North American Boxing Federation (NABF) Welterweight Championship, pitting Denzel “Double Impact” Whitley (12-0, 7 KOs) against Kenny “Lionheart” Larson (7-0-1, 5 KOs), of Salem (MA), in a clash that could be entitled, “Unfinished Business.” Whitley vs. Larson almost happened a few times, but for one reason or another, it failed to happen until now.

Whitley, fighting out of Holyoke (MA), is the reigning Massachusetts and United States Boxing Federation (USBF) Atlantic welterweight champion, who faces the toughest test of his young career in Larson, a 2016 N.E. Golden Gloves silver medalist.

Three hometown fighters are scheduled to fight, including Worcester favorite Kendrick “Peppa” Ball, Jr. (21-1-3, 12 KOs), matched versus Heber Rondon (20-5, 13 KOs), of Venezuela, in an eight-round bout for the vacant USBF Light Heavyweight Championship.

Ball is a former N.E. Middleweight and World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver super middleweight title holder, while Rondon is a former World Boxing Association (WBA) Fedelatin super welterweight champion.

Worcester junior middleweight Khiary “Too Sharp” Gray (17-6, 13 KOs) takes on New Haven (CT) veteran Jimmy “The Quiet Storm” Williams (18-13-2, 6 KOs) in a sixth-round bout that could steal the show. Gray, who hasn’t fought in two years, was runner-up in the 2012 N.E. Golden Gloves, while Williams is a former WBC USA Welterweight and American Boxing Federation (ABF) USA and Universal Boxing Organization (UBO) International super welterweight titlist.

Four-time N.E. Golden Gloves Champion Keno Luna, of Worcester, makes his pro debut in a four-round match against welterweight Moises Rivera.

Pittsfield’s (MA) undefeated Steve “The Savage” Sumpter (9-0, 7 KOs) puts his undefeated record on the line against Ronald Montes (19-19-1, 17 KOs), of Columbia, in a six-rounder. Sumpter is the International Boxing Association (IBA) Americas Super Middleweight and Massachusetts Light Heavyweight Champion. Montes is a former Colombia Welterweight Champion.

Another undefeated fighter from Western Massachusetts, lightweight Carlos “El Gallo” Gonzalez (8-0, 7 KOs), of Springfield, meets Nathan Benichou in a four-rounder.

December 2, 2023, Miami, FL – Don King Productions’ highly anticipated “People’s Championship” event delivered a spectacular night of fights at the Casino Miami Jai Alai Saturday night. The evening’s main event featured WBA Middleweight Continental USA champion Ian Green (18-2, 12 KOs) successfully defending his title against St. Louis, MO’s challenger Vaughn Alexander (18-8, 11 KOs). Establishing his jab early, the measured Green landed a devasting body shot that floored Alexander for a ten count in the eighth round.

The co-main event saw reigning WBA NABA Welterweight champion Tre’sean Wiggins (16-5-3, 9 KOs) score an emphatic first round TKO over Cincinnati, OH’s Chris Howard (18-3-1, 8 KOs). Stunning Howard within the first ten seconds of the first round, Wiggins quickly found his pace. Wiggins entered this bout on the strength of an impressive four straight victories.

Harrisburg, PA’s Antonio Perez (9-0, 5 KOs) and Las Vegas, NV’s Haskell Rhodes (29-6-1, 14 KOs) clashed for the WBC Vacant International Lightweight title in a back-and-forth brawl. Scoring two knockdowns in the tenth round, the newly crowned Perez was victorious via unanimous decision.

Lastly, Colombia’s Alex Castro (14-1, 11 KOs) outclassed Harry K. Cruz (14-4, 11 KOs) for ten rounds, defending his WBA NABA Middleweight title in the process.

WBA MIDDLEWEIGHT CONTINENTAL USA CHAMPIONSIP – 10 ROUNDS

Ian Green (18-2, 12 KOs) vs. Vaughn Alexander (18-8, 11 KOs)

Result: Wiggins wins by KO at 2:40 of round 8

Scorecards:  68-65, 67-66, 68-65 Green

Green on the significance of this bout: “I want to dedicate this fight to my late mother. Tomorrow is her birthday and there was a lot of pressure on me going into this fight. I want to say happy birthday mom and I hope you’re proud of me. Thank you for everything you’ve done for me and raising me to the man I am today. If you’re ever going through something, keep pushing. If you’re ever depressed and don’t know what you want to do, keep pushing. There’s a light at the end of the tunnel. I ain’t where I want to be, but I’m not where I started, and that’s all that matters.”

Green on his victory: “Like I said before I’m a dog. He caught me with a good shot, so I had to show him and switch it up. I worked on that body shot every day in the gym, and I made it happen today.”

Green on what’s next: “I told Don, whoever he puts in front of me, I’ll beat them. I want champions, I want the best.”

Tre’sean Wiggins (16-5-3, 9 KOs) vs. Chris Howard (18-3-1, 8 KOs)

Result: Wiggins wins by TKO at 2:57 of round 1

Wiggins on his victory: “I didn’t think I would finish the fight that fast. He’s a tough opponent who’s never been stopped before, so I wasn’t expecting that quick of a fight. I thought it would be a longer night, at least that’s what he told me at the weigh-in. I felt strong out there and I was prepared for short or long night.”

Pryce Taylor registers 1st round knockout in pro debut

NEW YORK CITY (December 3, 2023) – Celebrated Brooklyn amateur Pryce Taylor (1-0, 1 KO) had an auspicious professional debut this past Friday evening, stopping Mike Diorio in the opening round, on the undercard of a Prime Time Promotions card at Melrose Ballroom in Queens, New York.

The 6’ 4”, 265-pound Taylor was a decorated U.S. amateur boxer, highlighted by his two New York Golden Gloves Champion titles, along with four runner-up performances in USA National Championships, including one to Joshua Edwards, who just qualified to represent as a super heavyweight for Team USA in the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

Taylor dropped Diorio twice with lethal body shots, after which his corner threw in the towel at the 2:40 mark of round one.

“It was the best feeling in the world to have the whole place filled with my supporters,” Taylor said after the fight. “I was able to show off my boxing skills in front of everyone.”

Taylor’s manager, New York City-based lawyer, Keith Sullivan, already had the 27-year-old Taylor’s second pro fight scheduled in advance, December 16th against Christopher Arnold (5-3, 5 KOs) in a four-round bout on a show, promoted by Boxing Insider Promotions, at Sony Hall in New York City’s Times Square.

“A was a great debut win for Pryce,” Sullivan commented. “He widely focused on technique, not power, and was mindful of not expending too much energy by getting caught up in the moment. He really stayed focused before and during the fight. I’m very proud of how he handled himself.

“It’s important to get that first pro win out of the way. It’s a big leap from the amateurs that not many are capable of making. As an amateur, Pryce was rated as the sixth-best heavyweight in America, and in the top 10-pecent in the world. The skills and hunger are clearly there. He’s still developing, but we’ll guide his career to the top of the division in due time.”
