Jeter Promotions Signs Former Top-Five Rated Middleweight Immanuwel Aleem to A Promotional Deal

BALTIMORE, MARYLAND (AUGUST 17, 2023)–Jeter Promotions is proud to announce the signing of former top-five rated middleweight Immanuwel Aleem to an exclusive promotional Contract.

Aleem, 29 years-old of Richmond, Virginia has a record of 18-3-2 with 11 knockouts.

“I am excited to sign with Jeter Promotions. I have been in the gym with Tony Jeter for the last decade. He has always been great and very hospitable. I see him doing his own shows and he wanted to promote me early on. But now is the right time for that to happen,” said Aleem.

“I am just going to follow suit. This is the first time I have had a promoter. I made it to the top-five without a promoter. Now being with Tony, who is a former fighter, he had big fights, and he knows what it takes to get to the top. He is building an excellent stable of fighters with Elijah Pierce who is a top-10 fighter, and I know he can do the same with me and lead me toward a world title opportunity.”

“I feel that in the last three fights that I needed someone in my corner, and I believe Jeter Promotions will help me in that regard.”

“Not that long ago, Immanuwel was ranked number-five in the world by the WBC at middleweight. I think he has the ability to contend for a world title. Jeter Promotions is happy to sign another world class fighter fighter,” said Tony Jeter of Jeter Promotions.

Aleem began boxing at the age of 12 after his brother wanted to try something new and they were fighting in school, that spawned an amateur career that saw Aleem go 69-17 and become top-three in the nation as a junior.

Aleem turned professional on June 23, 2012 with a first round stoppage over Jess Noriega in Arlington, Virginia. Aleem won his first 16 bouts that were featured by wins over Oscar Riojas (12-2) and Jonathan Cepeda.

On January 14, 2017, Aleem scored a sixth round stoppage over highly regarded undefeated Ievgen Khtrov to win the WBC Silver Title. Aleem is coming off a majority decision defeat to Amilcar Vidal on January 17, 2021 in San Antonio, Texas.

Aleem has one child

He has been in the camps of Errol Spence Jr, and Jermall Charlo.

Aleem trained by his father Omar Aleem.

YAFAI VS. FRANK PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES

Eddie Hearn, Matchroom Sport Chairman:

“Thank you Jordan and Darren. We’re here in Birmingham ahead of a massive NXTGEN card. These cards are so important to the development of British boxing, of the talent you are going to see competing around the world on the global stage. This city really needs more boxing. It was actually five years ago since we were last here for Amir Khan’s fight against Samuel Vargas, which of course we’ll never forget as well. This time, it’s the new generation, it’s the next generation. These guys have the task, the responsibility to be flag-bearers for British boxing over the next few years. Of course when you look at the past, and Matchroom’s history with the sport across Anthony Joshua who we saw last week, Tony Bellew, Carl Froch and ten years today since Darren Barker famously won his IBF Middleweight World Title. Let’s give him a round of applause. We know he’s very shy on this day every year to talk about it. These guys, some of our best young prospects, have the task, have the opportunity, the platform to go and achieve that. This weekend live around the world on DAZN one of the best prospects, not even a prospect anymore, Galal Yafai, the Olympic gold medallist from Birmingham has an opportunity to make another step forward in challenging for World Title honours. A tremendous card as well. Cyrus Pattinson against Conah Walker – great fight. Sol Dacres, who I think is a real sleeping giant of the domestic and international Heavyweight division, and so much more as well.”

Galal Yafai (4-0, 3 KOs defending his WBC International Flyweight Title against Tommy Frank):

“Thanks to everyone for coming. I don’t usually stay in Birmingham too long, but it’s my home city. I’m always training in Sheffield. I’m excited I get to fight in Birmingham. I’ve fought all over the world. It’s my first time in ten years fighting here so I’m looking to put on a show on Saturday. I’ve fought all over the world – Russians. Kazakhs, the Mexicans that you put me in with – I’m sick of them now. We’ve got Tommy Frank here now. I’ve known Tommy for a while. I’ve seen him box. He’s a good fighter. I want to say he’s underestimating me as a professional fighter. I heard something about how they think I’m a good amateur fighter but not a good professional fighter just yet. We’ll see on Saturday. I think I’m ready for those World level opportunities now but it’s just the experience. Quality-wise, I’m just as good as the top guys in the division but they’ve got experience – 19/20 fights. Can Tommy get that out of me on Saturday? We’ll have to wait and see won’t we. There’s always pressure. I love boxing. Tommy doesn’t have any pressure on him. He’s expected to lose. Every top athlete has to deal with pressure.”

Tommy Frank (15-3-1, 3 KOs challenging Galal Yafai for the WBC International Flyweight Title):

“It’s just a massive opportunity for me. It’s the opportunity to change my life in many ways on Saturday night. Obviously Galal is an Olympic gold medallist, been there and done it as an amateur. He won a WBC International Title in his first fight. He’s had four ten round fights and he’s a very accomplished fighter. He’s from a boxing family, he’s been there and done it. I don’t know if he’s going to be the toughest but he’s definitely going to be the the most quality and the fighter with the most pedigree that I’ve fought. I just believe it’s everything for a reason. I believe I’ve got this opportunity for a reason. Coming off a loss I didn’t think I was going to get it. I did get it and I just believe this is a chance of a lifetime. Ultimately, I want a call back from you (Eddie Hearn) to get on more of these shows.”

Cyrus Pattinson (6-0, 4 KOs defending his WBA International Welterweight Title against Conah Walker):

“To be honest with you I’ve reiterated time and time again, I’m not interested in any other fight other than Saturday night. You can watch any interview that I’ve given, I’ve never mentioned any other fight apart from the fight on Saturday. That’s the only thing that matters. That was always the gameplan going into the Jenkins fight. That’s what we had been working on in the gym. I know that Conah likes to fight in that similar sort of style. I’m going to bring the same energy as him and it’s going to be a great fight. I’ve prepared for this fight like the contender, like it’s a vacant title. I’ll be able to sit and reflect after I’ve won the title again on Saturday. I know that Conah is a very dangerous fighter – he’s strong, he’s fit and he comes forward. He’s an intelligent fighter – a lot of people overlook his amateur background as well. I’ve got complete respect for him. I know what he’s going to bring.”

Conah Walker (11-2-1, 3 KOs challenging Cyrus Pattinson for the WBA International Welterweight Title):

“This is the pinnacle of my career so far. Like you say, I’ll take any fight at the drop of a hat. I don’t know if you remember but in Manchester I came and sat next to you and said, ‘if you’ve got any lads, get me on your shows and you won’t be disappointed’. I’m here to fight, I’m going to echo what Solomon said. I want to take big fights and fight for titles. That’s what boxing is about. Get out there and have a fight. Too many people think about their records. Just get out there and test yourself. Have a dingdong and crack on. I respect Cyrus for taking this fight with me because in my eyes I think it’s a banana skin. There’s all this talk about the Riston fight, they might as well cancel that now. I’m taking that belt and it’s coming home with me back to Wolverhampton. Simple as.”

Solomon Dacres (6-0, 2 KOs faces Chris Thompson over ten rounds at Heavyweight):

“I believe that I’m ready to go at any level. I’ve sparred all of the World Champions over the last few years. I’ve been round the world as an amateur on the GB Squad. I just want to fight and I want to win titles. I don’t want to pad my record out or anything like that. I’m just ready to go. Even last week when Dillian Whyte was pulled out the fight, we don’t talk too much I put the offer straight in and said we’ll step in. I’m sure many other people did that as well. We just put our name forward straight away. We don’t hesitate. We want to take fights and we want to improve. I like to work off what my opponent is doing. The last one with Ismay, he came to fight so I picked him apart with the openings. He didn’t come to survive and hopefully my man over there is game and willing. I’m just going to pick him apart and do what I do in the ring.”

Chris Thompson (12-4-1, 7 KOs faces Solomon Dacres over ten rounds at Heavyweight):

“Thank you very much for having me here. Thank you to Matchroom. I’m excited for the opportunity. Sol Dacres is the current English Champion, me being the former South African and African Heavyweight Champion. I’m excited for the opportunity. I’m aware of the stage that I’m on and I know that I’ve got to take the opportunity with both hands and show the world what I can do. I’m going to enjoy myself in there. We didn’t come as an opponent, we came to win. That’s what I’m going to do on Saturday night, I’m going to come and I’m going to beat him. We’ll be back on Matchroom shows before the end of the year.”

Khaleel Majid (10-0, 3 KOs faces Alessandro Fersula over eight rounds at Super-Lightweight):

“It’s about stepping up now, taking each fight as it comes, getting better and improving. This year I want to be, god willing, moving into title contention. Training camp has gone really good. I was in a good position to go and train with Buddy McGirt. It’s a shame he can’t be here on Saturday but we’ll get the job done. It’s about kicking on now and seeing what I can really do.”

Jordan Flynn (9-0, 1 KO faces Kane Baker in a ten round English Super-Featherweight Title Eliminator):

“It’s going to be a good fight. To be honest I didn’t think the fight was actually that tough. It might have looked tough on TV and stuff but it didn’t feel tough. I had 2.5 weeks with my new coaches to get ready for the fight. That was the worst version of me on the night and it was still enough to beat the best version of Kane Baker. This Saturday you’re going to see a completely different Jordan Flynn against this guy. I’m going to bake him again. He keeps saying that I’ve only beaten people, journeyman and they’ve all been bums, but he’s one of the guys that I’ve beaten as well so I think he’s putting himself in that same category.”

Kane Baker (19-10-1, 1 KO faces Jordan Flynn in a ten round English Super-Featherweight Title Eliminator):

“I’m 100% ready to go. Thank you and Matchroom and the whole team because dreams don’t come true for people like me but on Saturday night they will. A massive show in Birmingham, it’s something that I couldn’t have dreamed for, especially on the back of a loss. I just can’t wait to let it go on Saturday night. Every time I roll the dice. On Saturday night I’m looking for that double six. I watched it back and I still believe I won the first fight, but I’ve got to do a better job this time. I always dig deep and I can’t wait. The shovels are out now ready to start digging. I’m ready to start digging deep. I’m want to let everyone that is coming, family and friends, what Birmingham is about. How we get down. That’s what I’m going to do on Saturday night.”

Ibraheem Sulaiman (makes his professional debut against Michael Gonxhe over four rounds at Lightweight):

“What can I say? It’s going to be a special moment and I can’t wait to showcase my skills. I achieved a lot as an amateur but now it’s time to show the world what I’m about. It’s going to be sick, I’ll have the whole city behind me. Saturday is going to be a special night. I can’t wait to show you what I’m about.”

Aaron Bowen (2-0, 1 KO faces Wilmer Baron over six rounds at Middleweight):

“I’ve got another tough opponent this time. I think his style is going to gel with me better. He was awkward and slippery last time. I’ll look to meet this guy head on. It doesn’t look like he’s going to take a back step so it should be a good fight in front of all of the fans. I think this fight is going to bring the best out in me. The last one was tricky and small. I’ve sold over 300 tickets and I’ve got the bit between my teeth from the last one – I wasn’t overly happy with my performance. I feel like me and this guy are going to clash in the middle. There’s some good fights on the card but I think we can steal fight of the night.”

Sahil Khan (makes his professional debut against Sean Jackson over four rounds at Bantamweight):

“All of the work is done, from amateurs to pros now. No we’re ready. Saturday night is going to be a big night of boxing. After 70 fights I’ve had 28 knockouts as an amateur which is quite a lot of knockouts. Expect an explosive performance on Saturday.”

Muhammad Ali (2-0, faces Francisco Rodriguez over four rounds at Super-Bantamweight):

“I’m only 18 and I’m still learning and developing. We take it one fight at a time. I’ve got all of my team mates who have been in the game a much longer time than me. Seeing them doing it is helping me. I’m excited. My last fight when I was an amateur I was 15. The amateur and the pro side are completely different. You’re getting punched with 8oz gloves with no head-guard. It’s completely different. Hopefully I will get my fanbase up and I will get them excited. If the knockout comes, it comes.”

STAR BOXING’S OCTOBER 28TH “ROCKIN’ FIGHTS” MAIN EVENT ANNOUNCED: ALEX “EL TORO” VARGAS vs. MATT “SWEET CHILD” CONWAY WILL CLASH IN A PIVOTAL 10 ROUND SUPER LIGHTWEIGHT MAIN EVENT

Long Island, NY (August 17, 2023) — Star Boxing proudly presents an electrifying main event featuring Long Island’s undefeated super lightweight sensation, ALEX “EL TORO” VARGAS (13-0 5KO’s, Bellport, NY), who will square off against fierce challenger, MATT “SWEET CHILD” CONWAY (23-3 9KO’s), hailing from Pittsburgh, PA. Mark your calendars for October 28, as The Paramount in Huntington will transform into a battleground for what is slated to be a captivating main event and a night of boxing that will shake the foundations of The Paramount!.

Vargas is a hometown hero and newly admitted Suffolk County Police Officer with fast hands and stellar footwork. Star Boxing has been molding Vargas into its next huge draw from the Paramount, like its prior success with Chris Algieri and Joe Smith, Jr, both of whom went from Paramount regulars to world champions.  Vargas now steps into his first 10 round fight, as a result of his previous 13 victories, where he has showcased a poised and calculated yet explosive style that has made him a true fan favorite.

“I am really excited for my first ten-rounder in another step-up fight,” said Vargas. “I can’t wait to get back to work and go 14-0 in front of another sold out crowd at The Paramount on October 28!”

Opposite Vargas stands the difficult task in veteran Matt Conway, a product of Pittsburgh’s gritty streets. Conway has made a name for himself in the Pittsburgh area, and across the USA, including under the bright lights of Las Vegas, against then undefeated Gabriel Flores. This will be Conway’s first fight in New York. As a twenty-six-fight veteran with an impressive record, Conway will be the toughest test and by far the most experienced fighter Vargas has ever faced.

“I’m feeling great, and I’m excited for this opportunity,” said Conway. “I’ve been training hard, and I know my opponent is training hard as well. I am looking forward to putting on an exciting show for the fans!”

The stage is set at The Paramount, the #1 Pollstar club venue in the world, that has witnessed some truly unforgettable “Rockin’ Fights” bouts. On October 28, in a ten-round battle of two men determined to rise the ranks to world-wide recognition, Vargas and Conway will lock horns in a fight that promises to leave spectators on the edge of their seats.

Star Boxing CEO and Hall of Fame Promoter JOE DEGUARDIA had this to say about the highly anticipated main event, “This is the kind of main event that makes the Rockin’ Fights series so special. Vargas has been developing here at the Paramount since his pro debut in 2018, and now he is on the precipice of becoming a real player at the top level of the sport. Standing in his way is a ‘steel curtain’ as the Pittsburgh veteran has his sights on victory as well.  Vargas and Conway have the heart, the skill, and the fire to deliver a fight that fans will remember, and I am looking forward to it.”

Ige (17-6, fighting out of Las Vegas, Nev.) aims to stay undefeated in 2023 as he heads into his third bout of the year. CES Boxing signs undefeated Super Featherweight Prospect Alejandro Paulino

CES Boxing is proud to announce the signing of one of boxing’s hottest prospects, Alejandro “El Abusador” Paulino, to a multi-year promotional agreement.

“This is our biggest signing since Jamaine Ortiz,” said CES Boxing founder Jimmy Burchfield, Sr. “Paulino is one of the best young prospects in boxing. You never have to worry about him being in shape. He’s always in the gym and he wants to be a world champion. These are the types of fighters we want to sign.”

New London’s Paulino is a perfect 15-0 with 13 knockouts, his latest win a one round blowout last Saturday night at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, CT.

“I feel like it was time to sign with a promoter because after 15 fights, it’s becoming harder to get quality opposition,” said an excited Paulino. “We went over a few offers, and Jimmy was the best option. CES puts on a lot of big shows in Connecticut and I’m from Connecticut, so it was a perfect match.”

The 24-year-old Dominican native, who has worked with CES Boxing since his 9th pro bout, was one of the most sought out prospects in boxing.

“We’re honored that Alejandro and his team chose to be with CES on a long-term basis,” said Burchfield, Sr. “We know that there were many promoters who wanted to sign him. He’s an exciting fighter who can box, punch, and adjust to any situation. That’s what TV wants – exciting fighters, and I’m going to use the 35 years of experience I’ve acquired in this business to help him become a world champion.”

Alejandro’s manager and trainer, Dr. Roland Estrada, is confident that CES will provide the talented Paulino with the right level of opposition to prepare him for a world title within the next few years.

“Jimmy and I have worked together for 20 years now,” explained Dr. Estrada, who guided his son Jason’s career to several amateur titles, the 2004 Olympics, and a 20-6 professional record. “No promoter in New England is doing what Jimmy is doing. His work speaks for itself. We were independent for a while, but when you want to get to the next level, you want to sign with a promoter who can take your fighter from prospect to contender and eventually to world champion.”

Estrada has been working with Paulino since the 24-year-old walked into his ‘Big 6 Boxing Academy’ in Providence, Rhode Island as an amateur. The pair have worked together ever since, with the fighter making the hour plus drive from New London, Connecticut to train in Providence, Rhode Island several times a week.

“Alejandro is not only an exceptional talent, but he’s extremely dedicated,” said Dr. Estrada, who is a practicing optometrist by day. “He’s 15-0 now. Within a year, I expect him to be fighting for a US title, and by 2025 he should be challenging for a world title.”

A three-year pro, Paulino is a perfect 4-0 with 4 KOs in 2023. With this promotional agreement in place, his team expects to step up the power puncher’s level of opposition and fight at least one more time before the year is out.

For more information, follow CES Boxing on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter at @CESBOXING.

Canelo Alvarez vs. Jermell Charlo: LA Press Conference | September 30th on SHOWTIME PPV

CANELO ÁLVAREZ VS. JERMELL CHARLO LOS ANGELES PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES

LOS ANGELES – August 16, 2023 – Boxing superstars Canelo Álvarez and Jermell Charlo faced off for the second consecutive day Wednesday, this time at a press conference in Los Angeles, before they meet in a historic clash headlining SHOWTIME PPV (8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT) on Saturday, September 30 from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Canelo Promotions will present the Premier Boxing Champions Pay-Per-View.

After kicking off the fight promotion in New York on Tuesday, the undisputed super middleweight champion Canelo and undisputed junior middleweight champion Charlo hit the west coast to preview their showdown that will pit two reigning undisputed champions against each other for the first time in the four-belt era.

Tickets for the live event, which is promoted by Canelo Promotions and TGB Promotions, are available through AXS.com.

Here is what the press conference participants had to say Wednesday from The Beverly Hilton:

CANELO ÁLVAREZ

“I’m very happy to be involved in big fights like this. I hope that everybody enjoys this fight because it’s going to be a great night for the fans and for everybody who has wanted to see this fight for a long time.

“We’ll see if it’s true that I’ve lost a step. We’ll see. I understand what the people said and I agree. I didn’t look my best in my last two fights, but I know why and I’m ready for this fight. We’ll see what happens. We’re going to see something different.

“I always say that outside of the ring, I look like I’m an easy opponent. But when fighters step in the ring with me, it’s completely different. It’s not the same watching me from outside the ring as it is actually being inside the ring with me. I’m a different guy.

“I think both Jermell and Jermall Charlo are great fighters. No disrespect to Jermall. But I think Jermell has had better opposition in his fights. I think he is the better fighter. That’s just what I think.

“I’m going to bring my best like always. I’ll bring my skills and my experience into the ring. I’m just going to do my best and that’s it.”

JERMELL CHARLO

“When I got the call for this fight, there was nothing I could say other than ‘let’s go.’ My whole career has kind of been all about chasing Canelo. He’s been the top guy for a long time. The fight has presented itself now and I just have to get in there, do my job and be the best that I can be.

“After September 30, people are gonna appreciate my skills and what I’ve been doing for so long, ever since I was a kid. With every fight, I come to put on a show, and I’m dangerous the whole fight. I want to be known as great.

“He’s gonna find out that I’m the big Charlo. I am what I say I am. Canelo will see that I pack good punching-power, that I have good lateral movement and that I’m a ring general, just like he is. He’ll see that it won’t be a walk in the park. He says he’s gonna be better in this fight, and it’s the same thing for me.

“I’m gonna bring that Texas heat. I’m gonna show up and show out. I’m gonna have fun and do what I do. This is what I love to do. I’m gonna represent the culture and put on a show.

“Get your tickets, tune into ‘All-Access’, tune into the fight, because we’re bringing boxing up to be the best that it can be this year. We’re gonna give you that bang for your buck.”

EDDY REYNOSO, Canelo’s Trainer and Manager

“We’re here and we’re ready to keep moving forward and chasing history. It’s not easy to make a fight between two undisputed champions like we have done. It took a great effort from both teams to be able to make this happen.

“Styles make fights and I believe Canelo and Charlo’s styles clash perfectly to make this a great fight on September 30. Make sure to come out to Las Vegas. It’s going to be a great night.

“We are very motivated as a team to be facing Team Charlo, which has a great trainer in Derrick James and also Joan Guzman. It’s going to be a battle of wits, yes, but it’s all about the fighters that are going to be in the ring. Two undisputed champions with their trainers backing them up to make sure that they are fighting at their best.”

DERRICK JAMES, Charlo’s Trainer

“Hopefully everyone turns out on September 30, because this fight is gonna be fireworks. Both of these guys are gonna bring everything to the ring, and I’m looking forward to Jermell delivering a great performance and a great victory that night.

“My job for Jermell is making sure he can do everything I need him to do in order for him to be successful. I’m not as worried about who’s in the other corner, I’m focused on Jermell. At the same time, this is a super fight. You have to be motivated and inspired by it. I’m motivated to make sure that Jermell comes out successful.”

TOM BROWN, President of TGB Promotions

“This is going to be an incredible night. September 30 promises to be nothing but fireworks in front of another electrifying sold out crowd at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Get your tickets early, because this is a fight you won’t want to miss.”

We’ve spared a few times over the years and now at the age of 20, she has the skills necessary to make it in this business. Even Nakisa and Jake were very impressed by her tenacity and determination in the ring,” said Amanda Serrano. “It’s an honor to help her as she embarks on this next part of her career and I look forward to being there Friday night as she makes her debut. I promise it will be a battle you won’t want to miss.”

“This is the first female fight we’ve had in our Most Valuable Prospects series, and it couldn’t be more of a full circle moment because Amanda is managing one of the boxers,” said Nakisa Bidarian and Jake Paul, co-founders of Most Valuable Promotions. “MVP started this series to promote and provide a stage for the most promising, young talent out there, no matter what gender. Amanda has been the biggest supporter of female athletes and it’s a privilege to watch her offer her advice and expertise to Krystal. August 18th will be a big night with a lot of surprises coming out of the ring.”

“It’s great for all the fans in Orlando to have Amanda Serrano back in town at Caribe Royale. The local Puerto Rican community gets a chance to see a new and rising prospect lead by one of the Greatest of all time! We’re proud this show is at Caribe Royale and the Central Florida area as we continue to bring new and exciting events to the area,” said Amaury Piedra, Managing Director of Caribe Royale Resort and President of Boxlab Promotions.

Most Valuable Prospects II will also feature bouts between Nestor “El Mas Bravo” Bravo and Will “III Will” Madera, welterweights Damian Lescaille (4-0, 3 KOs) and Hugo Noriega (8-0, 5 KOs) for the WBA Continental Americas Title, Elijah Fores (5-0, 2 KOs) and Elijah Williams (6-0, 2KOs), Lorenzo Medina (7-0, 6 KOs) and Antonio Torres (4-0, 4 KOs), and lastly, Antraveous Ingram (5-0, 2 KOs) vs. Orlenis Licea (0-0-1), who made his debut on Most Valuable Prospects I.

McCANN & BALUTA PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES

FOUR MAJOR TITLE fights headline the card at York Hall on Friday when Queensberry return to the historic Bethnal Green venue with a show topped by the super bantamweight collision between Dennis McCann and Ionut Baluta for the WBO Intercontinental title belt.

Download today’s photos from the press conference.
*Credit Queensberry where possible.

The other title fights are the British and Commonwealth featherweight championship clash between the champion Nathaniel Collins – making his Queensberry debut – and his challenger Raza Hamza.

Ryan Garner fights for a first professional title against Juan Jesus Antunez for the WBC International super featherweight title and Raven Chapman makes a second defence of the WBC International featherweight title against the undefeated Lila Furtado.

The lead characters convened in London today for a media conference ahead of the event and the key quotes from the fighters are below.

Dennis McCann
He is more like my grandfather! This is a first of many main events and I have had the best camp I have ever had in my whole life. I am feeling very, very strong and I have really filled into this weight at super bantam. Friday night will be the best you have ever seen of Dennis McCann. Me and Baluta have done 100 rounds of sparring so he knows what I’m about, he knows. I am not going to say too much, but get your popcorn ready for Friday night because, believe me, it is going to be very explosive. I chose him and he didn’t choose me. He was moaning and groaning and didn’t want to take the fight because he knows what I’m about. You will see a big, strong Dennis McCann and I think this is where the KOs will start coming in. I am cut from a different cloth, I left school at 10 just to be a boxer and there isn’t anyone who trains as hard as me and there isn’t anyone willing to do what I will do. It is going to be a demolition job.

Ionut Baluta
I am back in England again, my second home and on Friday I am looking forward to having a good fight. I am the boss, I am known as Il Capo, the Godfather, and on Friday he will find this out because I am in England again to win the belt. I am feeling very strong, I have had a very strong camp over in Marbella and I thank my trainer Albert for giving me a very good camp and I will show what I can do. I am not going to be knocked out, I did want the fight and I always said yes to it. On Friday you will see why I am called the Godfather and that doesn’t mean the grandfather. I respect Dennis and all his family, but sparring is one thing and fighting is another.

Nathaniel Collins
It is obviously a big opportunity for myself, I have been out putting in the work and have not lost a round yet as a pro. Some people have seen in the flesh what I can do and now it is time to bring it to the big screens. Raza said he has been in with lots of world champions but he has never been in with anyone like me. I am absolutely not paying any attention to his fight with James Beech jr because I don’t know what was going on with Raza in that camp. You can’t look at that one fight and think he is done for. He has spent time away from his family and that is not to be taken lightly. He has obviously prepared seriously, but the best Raza Hamza that turns up will bring out the best Nathaniel Collins. The best anybody doesn’t cause me a problem because I’m the best featherweight in the country. In all areas I am better than Raza.

Raza Hamza
I am ready, last time out I didn’t do myself no justice and I fought like an absolute idiot. This time I have got a chance to put it right. I didn’t prepare properly, I lived in Birmingham, I messed about and was over-confident, which was all my fault. This time I have been away from my family for 14 weeks, have not seen my little girl for four weeks. I am serious for this fight. He is a very good fighter and, for me to beat him, I need to be at my very best. It is now or never, isn’t it? You know and I know, my whole career I was meant to go on and achieve big things, so if I don’t win this I will never be an opponent. It is very good to be an underdog because everybody expects me to lose, but I have worked hard and I have never been an underdog before, amateur or pro. Look, I am fighting a good fighter, he deserves the credit because he has gone and beat somebody who beat me. I am meant to lose, but we will see what happens on Friday. This is my last chance, my only chance. There is no back-up plan.

Ryan Garner
I feel really good, it is my first title fight and it has been a long journey getting to this point in my career. Everyone knows the bumpy road it has been, but the main thing is we are here now and on Friday night I am going to put on a big performance and hopefully win my first title of many. I think this is the first year in three that I’ve managed to have more than one fight, so I am staying busy now. What I want to do is win this and keep progressing, that is all I want to do now. This has been a quick turnover from the last one, which is a good thing, so I got straight back in the gym with no distractions. I think you will see the best of me when I am most active. This has been a long time coming, I have been a pro seven years now, so it was only a matter of time before I got to the top table with the big boys. I am looking forward to staying here and, who knows, I can headline my own show one day in Southampton.

Raven Chapman
I am really looking forward to it, it feels like I haven’t been in the ring for a while, so it feels good to be back in there doing my thing and doing what I do best. This is the kind of fight I want. I need step-ups, especially with the progression Frank and everyone at Queensberry sees for me. To go against another undefeated fighter is going to be part of that step-up, someone who is going to come to win, come to throw everything. That is the fight I want, that is the fight I need and they are the fights I enjoy as well. I’ve not watched her, I leave that to my coaches and they can tell me what I need to do. I will just focus on what I do best. I think I have only showed 70% of what I can do and hopefully in this fight I will get to show you a little bit more. I am not just a come-forward pressure fighter and I do have a boxing IQ – and a good one.

CANELO ÁLVAREZ VS. JERMELL CHARLO NEW YORK PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES

NEW YORK – August 15, 2023 – Boxing superstars Canelo Álvarez and Jermell Charlo faced off for the first time on Tuesday at a kickoff press conference in New York to preview their blockbuster showdown that headlines a SHOWTIME PPV (8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT) on Saturday, September 30 from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Canelo Promotions will present the Premier Boxing Champions Pay-Per-View.

The undisputed super middleweight world champion Canelo will take on the undisputed junior middleweight world champion Charlo in a historic matchup that will pit two reigning undisputed champions against each other for the first time in the four-belt era.

Tickets for the live event, which is promoted by Canelo Promotions and TGB Promotions, are available through AXS.com.

Here is what the press conference participants had to say Tuesday from Palladium Times Square:

CANELO ÁLVAREZ

“Thank you to Jermell for taking this fight. I’m very happy to be in this position and to be in big fights. Jermell is a great fighter who takes on big challenges just like I do. I always take risks.

“Jermell is a great fighter and this is a fight that’s been out there as a possibility for a long time. Now is the correct time for this fight.

“I’m gonna put everything into the ring. My experience, my power and my skills. It’s going to take everything to win this fight. It’s going to be a great night for the fans.

“It’s good that people are saying I’ve lost a step. It’s fine. I know why I didn’t look as good in my last two fights. I know why and I’m different now. I’m preparing now for a different type of fighter.

“I’m 100% focused on this fight. Then we’ll see what happens after. Everyone wants drama and for us to fight on this stage, but when two fighters are 100% focused like we are right now, it’s gonna make it a great fight in the ring.

“I have everything that he says he has as well. I have experience and I’ve been in this position a lot of times. That’s why we’re here. We’re going to find out if he’s got enough on September 30.

“I love being in these kinds of fights. Stay tuned on September 30 because this is gonna be a great night for boxing.”

JERMELL CHARLO

“This is a long time coming. Canelo and Eddy are legends in the game of boxing. They’ve put on great shows and I want to be the one that gets in there and takes it all away from them.

“Me and my brother Jermall have been putting on for boxing and it’s our time now. A lot of people are worried about the wrong things. When you want to win something this big, you have to risk it all.

“I just want to quiet my haters and doubters and turn non-believers into believers. I’ve watched a lot of great people in the sport of boxing and now I think this is the best moment for me to leave my mark. With two great fighters in there, you get nothing but fireworks. When this fight presented itself, it was a no-brainer to make this happen.

“I’m gonna train my ass off and be intelligent. I know I’m moving up in weight, but who cares? That won’t stop me from getting in there and doing it the way I do it. I’m excited for this moment.

“My heart, desire and determination will give me what I need to win. I guarantee a great night and that you’re gonna hear some lions roaring.

“I don’t have any excuses. Whatever happens happens. I came here to win this fight. I’m not laying down. I don’t care what anyone says.

“I’m so proud to be one of the fighters who’s able to get in there and step up and fight the best. I’m gonna be training my ass off. Tune in on September 30. Be there or be square. We’re gonna turn this into a whole new ball game.”

EDDY REYNOSO, Canelo’s Trainer and Manager

“Here we are in New York, once again announcing what will be one of the best fights in recent memory. Styles makes fights, and I believe that both Charlo and Canelo possess the kind of contrasting styles that fans will love to see in a fight.

“Charlo is a great champion and has a great trainer in as Derrick James. He is a great fighter with a big heart that has gotten up off the mat after losing, and that makes him even more dangerous. He lost, but he also redeemed himself and showed that you can redeem yourself to earn big fights like this one.

“This will definitely be a challenge. Charlo is capable of ending the fight at any moment, and we must be ready for anything he migh do.

“We know it will be a tough fight, but we are always ready. You will all see a great fight, and you will also see a very different Canelo compared to the one you saw during the last few fights.”

DERRICK JAMES, Charlo’s Trainer

“This is a fight that Jermell Charlo has always wanted. It’s the type of fight he’s needed to put him into super superstardom. Canelo is a great fighter with a great trainer and they’ve been so consistent over the years. It’s hard to do that in boxing.

“It’s gonna take Jermell being the best version of himself. He’s gonna have to be focused in training camp and focused in the fight. He’s gonna get what he needs to get because of the focus he has and because he knows he has to be himself.

“Jermell should be comfortable with the weight on fight night. He’s daring to be great. He’s all about stepping up and taking the challenges. He wants to be undisputed in two weight classes at the same time.

“It’s all about us coming in and doing what we do best. Both guys are gonna try to do whatever they can do to come out successful. It’s gonna be a great and exciting night of boxing.”

TOM BROWN, President of TGB Promotions

“September 30 will be another night of history. It’s impressive what both men have accomplished to become undisputed. And we also have the back-to-back Trainer of the Year winners in Eddy Reynoso and Derrick James up here as well. It’s everything you would want for a mega fight.

“Canelo is truly one of the sport’s best ever. He’s a hero in Mexico and universally respected. He’s a throwback fighter who takes on all challengers and he’s boxing’s biggest star.

“Jermell will bring everything he’s got to this fight. He’s cleaned out the division and beaten every fighter he’s faced. He’s not just convinced he can win this fight, he’s convinced he will.

“This is a classic old school fight with two guys who can really crack. It will come down to who can handle themselves under fire. It’s a super fight you don’t want to miss.”

STEPHEN ESPINOZA, President, SHOWTIME SPORTS®

“Coming off some of the biggest and most anticipated fights in recent memory, we have a special one on September 30. This is another matchup with historic implications, the first bout in the four-belt era pitting two undisputed champions.

“Regardless of who you are rooting for, these two men are among the elites in boxing. Both have historic achievements. Canelo has defeated 18 world champions in his career. He has fought at least one world champion every year for the last 10 years.

“Jermell Charlo is the first undisputed 154-pound world champion in the four-belt era. He could join Terence Crawford as the only male boxer to become undisputed in two weight classes in the four-belt era.

“This event is a rare opportunity to witness greatness. Greatness means not being satisfied with being the first and only four-belt undisputed super welterweight champion. Greatness is pushing for more; more challenges, more history, continuing to test the limits of your own performance. Greatness is taking tough fights and big challenges when you don’t have to.”

Steve Sumpter (8-0, 7 KOs), Pittsfield, MA): “I’m going home with that IBA title. We’ve been working on a few little different things. Hell, no (the fight isn’t going the distance). I’m going to do what I’m going to do….put him out!”

James Perkins (12-0-1, 9 KOs, Lynn, MA): “I’m feeling good. Thanks for the opportunity to fight for the IBA (Americas) title. I’ve trained hard and I’m ready. I’m going to do what I do.”

Denzel Whitley (11-0, 6 KOs, Holyoke, MA): “As always, I’m a man of few words. I’m excited to be on this show, my first fight in Worcester. I’m ready to make a statement, ready to put on a real show.”

Thomas Blumenfeld (2-0, 1 KO, Springfield, VT by way of Canada): “I’m really excited to be on this card. This is my third professional fight and I’m excited to show my talents and what I’ve been working on in the gym. I never took a break after my last fight. I’m ready to put on a show August 19th.”

(L-R) – Johnny Campbell and Carlos Gonzalez

Carlos Gonzalez (6-0, 6 KOs, Springfield, MA): “I’m very happy to have the opportunity to be on this card. I’ve only been boxing a year, but people know I’m a good all-around athlete. I’ll handle what he’s got. Good luck, Johnny. We’ll find out. Let’s put on a great fight.

Johnny “Cupcakes” Campbell (pro debut, Plymouth, MA): “When I put my hands on people, they go down. I’m not one of those people like your last opponent. I’m going to put you through the ropes like spaghetti. I’ve had 42 MMA fights, and this is my first boxing match. I’m in peak condition, very fast and experienced, with power in both hands.

(23-4, 17 KOs), of Asuncion, Paraguay, on Saturday, August 26 at the Lumcolor ‘Phoenix Center’  in Ontario, CA.
