LAMONT PETERSON VS. FELIX DIAZ JR. FINAL PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES

WASHINGTON, DC (October 15) – Two days before former world champion Lamont Peterson (33-3-1, 17 KOs) and Olympic Gold Medalist Felix Diaz Jr.(17-0, 8 KOs) are set to enter the ring at EagleBank Arena at George Mason University in Fairfax, VA, the fighters hosted a press conference at The Hamilton Live in downtown Washington, DC. The Saturday afternoon Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) on NBC event will air live with televised coverage beginning at 4 p.m. ET/1 p.m. PT.
The two co-main event fighters, rising star Prichard Colon(16-0, 13 KOs) and the undefeated Terrel Williams (14-0, 12 KOs)were also in attendance along with undercard fighters super lightweight contender Anthony Peterson (35-1, 23 KOs) and undefeated prospect Alantez Fox (16-0-1, 6 KOs).
Here’s what the fighters had to say just days before their October 17 showdowns:
LAMONT PETERSON
“I had a very healthy and productive training camp. I’m looking forward to this fight. I always look forward to fighting. I wish I could fight every month, I swear I do. But I understand it’s a business.
“I’m looking for a tough fight. I know he’s prepared. I did my homework on him though. I wish we could fight tonight…but I guess I can wait.
“It’s the best to fight in front of a hometown crowd. It’s the best for me, and it’s the best for my fans. It’s always great to walk to the ring and have those familiar faces in the crowd.
“Fighting in front of a hometown crowd is exciting just like it is in any other sport. You have home field advantage, home court advantage and in boxing, you have home ring advantage. I’m blessed to be fighting at home, and I’m blessed to be fighting again.
“It’s going to be really exciting to have my daughter at my fight for the first time. She’ll be at the weigh-in too, so I’m happy I can have here there with me.
FELIX DIAZ JR.
“I like the opportunity but the pressure is on Lamont fighting in his hometown. I don’t feel any pressure coming into his hometown.
“I don’t feel any pressure to keep my undefeated record because I trained to win. The Olympics were the most pressure I’ve ever felt and it was my proudest moment as a fighter and as a man. It’s one of my biggest achievements.
“After this fight, I want to spend time with my family and see Halloween for the first time in the United States. My kids are excited to dress up and I’m excited to eat the candy.”
PRICHARD COLON
“I had a great training camp in Puerto Rico for about four to five weeks. I recently just fought in September and I was in great condition. This fight is a great opportunity for me to be seen on national television.
“I always a look for the win. Looking for that ‘W,’ that’s how we work. If the knockout comes beautiful, I’m coming off of three knockouts in a row. I’m looking to add another one to my record.
“He’s a great opponent. He’s undefeated. I know he’s hungry. I’ve faced big fighters in my career in the amateurs. No worries he’s just another fighter and I know I’m going to be the one with my hand raised on Saturday.
“I want to make my own fighting style. I just want to be me. When I started my career I wanted to be like Tito Trinidad and Hector Camacho Sr. Those were my favorite fighters growing up, but now I want to make my own brand, and that’s what I’m going to do on Saturday.
“Everybody in the area come to EagleBank Arena Saturday. Doors open at 1 p.m. and if you cant make it, tune in on NBC at 4 p.m.”
TERREL WILLIAMS
“I’m ready to go. This is a huge opportunity for me. I know I have a lot of support with my family, friends and fans behind me.
“I have a tough task in front of me. Prichard is a great up and coming undefeated fighter, but I’m ready.
“This is the challenge that I’ve always dreamed. I’m ready to rock and roll on Saturday.
ANTHONY PETERSON
“Its fight time. Make sure you tune in. It’s going to be a great show.
“Boxing in DC definitely took a big turn in 2011 when Lamont kicked in the front door and beat Amir Khan. It was a big victory for the Headbangers and a big victory for the city. Boxing is definitely big in DC again with local fights in small venues and fights like we have Saturday night at EagleBank Arena.
“I feel very sharp. I’m ready to go. I haven’t been this focused in a long time.
“Lamont is more than a best friend. I can’t explain or describe it. I’m so excited my niece is going to come watch us fight for the first time. She’s my heart.”
ALANTEZ FOX
“It’s an honor and privilege to be on the same card as Lamont and Anthony Peterson. They are two hometown heroes that we have all looked up to in some form or another.
“I am still here to put on a show, but it is still an honor and a privilege to be on this card.”
BARRY HUNTER, Peterson’s Trainer
“This is what we do. Fighting has been a part of our lives for I don’t know how many years. I would like to thank Felix and his trainer. Felix is a good young man. He comes with a very good pedigree. I had a chance to hang out with them in Florida about a year or two ago and they treated us with respect and kindness.
“Fighting is what we do damn near all day everyday. It’s in the bloodline. Come Saturday, we look forward to a good fight. I don’t make predictions, but its going to be a great night for DC, and a great night for the DMV.”

STAR BOXING DUO – RAYMOND SERRANO AND DEMETRIUS ANDRADE – BACK IN RING ON BUSY BOXING WEEKEND

New York, October 15—A pair of Star Boxing standouts with 21 career wins apiece – welterweight contender Raymond “Tito” Serrano and former Junior Middleweight world champion Demetrius “Boo Boo” Andrade – will see action in key bouts on this busy boxing weekend.
On Friday night, October 16, Serrano (21-2, 9 KOs) will try to put the first blemish on the undefeated record of Brad Solomon (25-0, 9 KOs) in the co-featured bout on a card to be televised by TRU TV from the Aviator Sports Complex in Brooklyn, New York. The 26-year-old Serrano, a Puerto Rican standout, is a product of the tough fight city of Philadelphia, PA. The Solomon-Serrano bout is promoted by Top Rank in association with Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing.
On Saturday night, October 17, the ring wars lead to Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, CT when Andrade returns to the ring after a 16-month layoff and puts his undefeated record on the line against Dario Fabian Pucheta (20-2, 11 KOs), a top Argentinian who has won three straight. They’ll be fighting in the main event for the vacant WBO and WBA International Junior Middleweight world titles. The show is promoted by Jimmy Burchfield’s CES in association with Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing and Banner Promotions.
A victory by Andrade, fighting on his New England home turf out of Providence, RI, puts two belts around his waist, and is an automatic top 15 ranking in both the WBO and WBA, a major step toward reclaiming his WBO junior middleweight title that was stripped from him in July due to the long layoff.
More on Andrade: One of the most celebrated amateurs in modern United States amateur boxing history, slick southpaw Demetrius “Boo Boo” Andrade is now on a mission to accomplish something he did before starting to get paid to fight, and become world champion as a professional.
Andrade first started boxing at the tender age of six. As an amateur, Demetrius won his first gold medal in 2002 at the National Silver Gloves Championships for ages 12 and 13 at 112 pounds. He later had winning performances at the 2005 & 2006 U.S. National Championships, 2006 & 2006 National Golden Gloves Tournament.
In 2007, he captured a silver medal at the Pan-Am Games in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, losing in the final to local favorite Pedro Lima, 7-6. Later that same year, in Chicago, he became the first American in 12 years to capture gold at the World Amateur Boxing Championships. “Boo Boo” was completely dominant in the final competition, leading 10-1 after one round – aided by a standing eight count imposed on his opponent, Manon Boonkumnong – after which his opponent retired.
Andrade was considered the most promising pro prospect on the 2008 U.S. Olympic Boxing Team, as well as one of the most highly regarded in the entire world. In Beijing, he defeated Kakhaber Zhvania (Georgia), 11-9, and dangerous Audrey Balanov (Russian), 14-3, in the first two rounds of The Olympics. In the quarterfinals, though, he was unfairly eliminated, losing a controversial 11-9 decision to Korean boxer Kim Jung-Joo.
After the Olympics, Andrade signed a co-promotional contract with Star Boxing and Banner Promotions.
Andrade made his much-anticipated pro debut October 23, 2008 on Versus television, stopping Patrick Cape (4-2) in the second round of their fight in Airway Heights, Washington. One month later, fighting at home in Rhode Island for the first time as a professional, Demetrius defeated Eric Marriott (0-1) by way of a fourth-round technical decision. After his first two fights, Andrade became a regular on ESPN2’s Friday Night Fights series and ultimately won his Championship on HBO.

Australia’s Josh King Looking Forward to Facing Former Champ Ricky Burns on Nov 7
WBO #10 lightweight Josh King says he’s ecstatic to be facing former two-division world champion Ricky Burns (38-5-1, 12 KOs) for the WBO Inter-Continental Lightweight Championship at the Echo Arena in Liverpool on November 7.
The event will also be broadcast live on Sky Sports.
“When this opportunity came up I jumped at it,” said a happy King during a break in training. “This is exactly what I wanted. I can’t wait to get it on with this guy and get a win over a two-division world champ.”
King (19-3, 9 KOs), from Townsville, Queensland, Australia, has already held the Australian Super Lightweight, WBF World Super Lightweight, WBO Oriental Lightweight and WBO Asia Pacific Lightweight Championships as a professional. But adding a name like Scotland’s Ricky Burns to his resume would propel the 30-year-old onto the world stage.
“A victory will give me the opportunity to fight for the world title,” he added, “but I know he’s a two-time world champ and it’s not going to be easy. Ricky has done some great things in the ring.”
King says he’ll be coming into the fight in top shape, as he’s been training for months for two consecutive fights that were cancelled.
“I’ve done a lot of things differently for this fight,” he continued. “I’ve changed trainers and gone to an experienced Steve Deller. I’m training in Townsville North Queensland at the Bad Boys gym. I’m more than ready to win. I see it going the distance. I’ve got to get in and out-work him; show some angles and move on him.”
King’s co-promoter, Greg Cohen of Greg Cohen Promotions, along with Adam Wilcock of FightCard Promotions, says Burns and his team have made a mistake in taking this fight.
“They’re thinking they’re going to use Josh as a stepping stone back to the top, but they couldn’t be more wrong,” he explained. “It’s Josh who will be using him. Burns is tailor-made for my fighter. An upset is imminent.”

Dmitriy Salita’s Arduous Journey from Ukraine to Champion
In a book recently penned by his brother Michael Salita and Gleb Petrov, entitled Golden Gloves: Rap-Novel, (now being sold on Amazon) the authors address some of the hardships Dimitry–Star of David–Salita experienced before the boxer won the New York State Golden Gloves tournament and ultimately became the number one contender for the Welterweight Boxing Championship of the World. Dimitry had to contend with the restrictions of being the first and only strictly observant Jew in the history of the sport. As the title suggests, the novel is written lyrically in rap mode, which is, for the former Brooklynite, a component in his training that tirelessly motivates him through the most physically challenging of regimens. Most importantly, however, Golden Gloves is not only for fans of the sweet science, but the story of a quest of an emigrant who became an observant religious man against the insurmountable obstacles of religious restrictions and succeeding in the most challenging of sports; Dmitriy Salita triumphed.
The book Golden Gloves published in Russian in 2013 by Liberty Publishing House signified the appearance of a new genre in fiction – that of Rap-novel.
It’s a dramatic and triumphant story of a Gold Gloves champion, Dmitry Salita. The authors of the tale – Michael Salita, brother of the boxer, and Gleb Petrov, a poet, have found a unique form that perfectly corresponds and, by extension, reflects the plot of their book and enhances the message.
It wasn’t a mere chance. Considering their diverse backgrounds, it it rather remarkable that hip-hop rhythms accompanied the champ’s boxing trainings; it is the impetus that engenders the sportsman with energy. Hip-hop, a genre of stylistic rhythm of narrative was both the background and the pulse of boxing. The text of the disclosure is vigorous, producing violent energy, pitched at precisely the right note. It’s a symphony of rhythm itself.
It turned out, however, that not only sport events can be told in rap. In suspense we read the passionate “springy” verses about the fate of a talented emigrant who had set and achieved his object, regardless of all hardships and tragic events in his life. The page-turner is being read in one gulp as one is seemingly unable to pause, for its rhythm is driving the reader up to the very last line of the text.
Boxing is not the only subject-matter of the book. Rap-novel Golden Gloves speaks about life itself – in all its sides and manifestations. The authors succeeded in telling us about faith and friendship, joys and sorrow, losses and gains:
“Life is short, just slips away
Leaves you wishing for just one more day.
Today a bright light lights your way,
Tomorrow it has gone away.
No time for last words or goodbyes,
There are too many farewells in life.
It can drive you to despair.
When your aspirations disappear.
And your dreams vanish into thin air.”
There are chapters devoted to the very essential for D. Salita subject – that of Judaism and his own considerations for Jewish traditions:
“It’s not for nothing that someone said:
We’re all branches of one stem.
Our forefathers of days of old,
And modern Jews in one accord…
…be proud of your ancestors religion
Follow the rules and respect tradition.”
The problem of anti-Semitism is also put up here with great tension and emotion in hip-hop style.
The book is a great surprise, novelty and success. Thanks to G. Petrov and M. Salita rap style has become, oxymoronically, the fact of fiction.
Now the book is translated into English and available on Kindle Amazon.
VIJENDER SINGH READY FOR BIG LONDON DEBUT
Indian boxing star Vijender Singh says he’s ready to put on another explosive performance in his London debut on Friday 30th October at the Harrow Leisure Centre.
Middleweight Singh made an immediate impact with his highly anticipated professional debut last Saturday night at the Manchester Arena by destroying Sonny Whiting in three rounds with a devastating display of power punching.
All-action Singh punished Whiting with a lightning fast jab and heavy right hand, mixed with hard combination punches as he took apart his more experienced opponent. The fight went out live on TV in India, where he is a national hero, in front of an estimated 20m audience and after that performance the figure is expected to be even higher this time.
Now the 2008 Olympic Bronze Medalist heads to the capital to give the fans more action as he sets out on the road to ultimately become India’s first ever professional world boxing champion.
Fighting in London again will also bring back some fond memories for Singh as he represented India at the 2012 Olympics.
“I’m thrilled to be fighting in London as a professional for the first time and I can’t wait to meet with my fans in the south and give them some big-fight action,” Said Singh.
“Winning on last Saturday was a very big moment for me, I had my whole country watching me on TV, even the though they weren’t there it felt like they were and I knew that I had to give them something special and I did,”
“I’ve been overwhelmed with messages from fans congratulating me on the win and they keep asking ‘when are you coming to London?’, ‘you must come to London and fight’, so now they will now get to see me on October 30th,”
“London is probably the most ‘happening’ place in the world, there is a big buzz and magnetism in the city with sport and entertainment, the history and culture, so I can’t wait to bring more excitement when I fight there,”
“I have fantastic memories of when I boxed in London at the Olympics representing India as the captain of the boxing team and it was an amazing spectacle and occasion,”
“I was at the Boxing Writers’ Dinner in London on Monday night and I met many of the great fighters who were were world middleweight champions, namely Nigel Benn and Alan Minter, both great, great, fighters and I aim to be a world champion like them one day.”
“I was back in the gym straight after my win and back in hard training ready for the fight and whoever is put in front of me I’ll deal with.”
Singh features on an action packed card headlined by hard-hitting WBO European Champion Jamie Cox who makes the first defence of his title.
Red hot light-heavyweight Tom Baker from Chingford features in the chief-supporting contest against Margate’s Jack Morris for the Vacant Southern Area Light-Heavyweight Championship.
The undercard features a host of top talents: Bushey light-heavyweight Miles Shinkwin, Islington light-middleweight Georgie Kean vs Nottingham’s Nathan Macintosh; West Ham light-middleweight Sam McNess vs Kevin McCauley; Ilford light-heavyweight Anthony Yarde vs Derby’s Elvis Dube; Mitchell Smith’s brother Jez takes on Newark’s Fonz Alexander over four rounds at middleweight; Acton flyweight Prince Patel faces Gateshead Gary Reeve; Chingford lightweight Archie Sharp vs Hereford’s Dean Evans; the professional debut of West Ham light-welterweight Ben Smith and also Sidcup’s light-welterweight D.P Carr who takes on Trowbridge’s Dan Carr.
It’s On! Nielsen and Markussen set for Danish mega-fight on December 12 in Copenhagen
Patrick Nielsen (27-1, 13 KOs) and Rudy Markussen (39-3, 26 KOs) will meet in a Danish mega-fight on December 12 at the Brondy Hallen in Copenhagen.
The blockbuster showdown comes following months of antagonism between the bitter rivals, which reached boiling point earlier this year when Markussen crashed one of Nielsen’s pre-fight press conferences.
Having both overcome ‘Collision Course’ clashes in Frederikshavn last month, the stage is now set for Denmark’s biggest domestic fight for over thirty years.
‘’I’m very happy my team has delivered me this fight,’’ said Nielsen, the current WBA International Super Middleweight Champion. ‘’This is the fight I wanted and this is a fight I know I can win.
‘’I’ve had a short break after my last fight, but now I’m back in the gym, and I can guarantee fans are going to see the best Patrick Nielsen in the ring. I’m leaving nothing to chance and will make sure I’m in the best possible shape.
‘’Rudy can talk all he wants, but now, he is going to have to back it up. He’s called me out, he’s crashed my press conference, and for that I will make him pay. I’m too fast, too strong and too skillful. Rudy is a caveman, and on December 12, I’m going to send him back to the Stone Age!’’
‘’This fight has come at a perfect time for me,’’ said Markussen, a former European Champion and World title challenger. ‘’I hope Patrick is training hard because I’ve been preparing for this for a long time and will be 100% ready!
‘’This is a massive fight, not just for me, but for Danish boxing as a whole. We’ve not seen a rivalry like this for a long time. This is a chance for me to bring some excitement back to the sport. Patrick is not a bad fighter but he lacks that excitement.
‘’He also lacks experience. He may have had many fights and gone many rounds but there is a big difference between this and fighting in the States or going to Germany to fight Sven Ottke. I’ve been in this kind of situation before and fought against a much higher level of opposition.
‘’He is taking a big risk by agreeing to fight me and all the pressure is on him. I can feel that the fans are behind me. I know that they want to see me win, and on December 12, they will not be disappointed!’’
‘’This is the fight the fans have been waiting for,’’ said promoter Nisse Sauerland. ‘’There is real bad blood between Patrick and Rudy, and now they have the chance to settle their differences once and for all!
‘’Not since the 1980s, when Joergen Hansen and Hans-Henrik Palm twice contested the European title, have we seen such a big fight between two Danish boxers. This is going to add to the occasion and make for a huge event on December 12 at the Brondby Hallen.’’
‘’There is a lot of hype surrounding this fight between Patrick Nielsen and Rudy Markussen,’’ said Peter Nørrelund, MTG Head of Sports. ‘’This is the biggest fight between two Danes in decades and a fight where the Danish public will be split on who to support. From a broadcasters point of view this is as good as it gets in Denmark, and we are looking very much forward to delivering this fight.’’’
The Danish mega-fight between Patrick Nielsen and Rudy Markussen will be shown live and exclusive on Pay-Per-View in Denmark for 499 DKK – further information will be communicated by Viasat/ Viaplay. Tickets go on sale today from 12.00pm and are available online via billetlugen.dk or by calling (+45) 75 263 267

Oscar De La Hoya, Chairman and CEO of Golden Boy Promotions:
“What a beautiful country! Only in the USA can you have a fighter from Canada, Kazakhstan, Nicaragua, Cuba, and the Bahamas sell-out the Madison Square Garden, God Bless the USA!

“This fight is the type that will keep you at the edge of your seat. It’s been a while since we have seen one of these events and we are proud to bring a card from top to bottom that is full of great fights that feature the next generation of great boxers.”
Bernard Hopkins, Future Hall of Famer and Golden Boy Promotions Partner:
“We made a commitment to boxing fans, to work with any promoter who share the same vision to put on the best fights for fans. I don’t want to pat ourselves on our back just yet, but I want you to judge us as times go by. We want to put on the big fights we want to give you the best fights and want to work with people with the same mentality.
“Let me tell you about the chills that I get being at here at Madison Square Garden presenting the next middleweight unification fight. Unification is very rare, 14 plus years ago we had that. You get a chance to see a that now. We need more of this. We need to work together to out-do the competition.
“Madison Square Garden is where some strange things that happen and I know that personally. In David, we have a guy who can win, but he understands that he needs to be near if not perfect to win.”
Abel Sanchez, Head Trainer to Gennady Golovkin:
“I look forward to matching boxing smarts with Marc, he is an excellent trainer. And I look forward to an explosive fight where no one will be disappointed.”
Camille Estephan, President of Eye of the Tiger Management:
“This is a fantastic show on the 17th. This is a great week for boxing and this fight will be talked about for ages to come. It will be a war.
“I want to echo the thanks for everyone involved. All the staff who have worked hard on this event; HBO, Mark, and Peter; and the promoters K2 Promotions, GGG Promotions and a special thanking you for Golden Boy Promotions.
“I also want to thank David for being who he is. We are here for a conquest we will go back home with these belts, David is ready.”
“This is a special moment that we have been preparing for over the years. Don’t underestimate us, the proof is in the pudding. We are very confident in David and congratulate Marc Ramsay who has engineered these conquests.”
Marc Ramsay, Head Trainer to David Lemieux:
“We have had a tough but very successful training camp. It was brutal but we reached every goal.
“David raised his boxing to a different level. Everything was perfect, there were no problems and we have no excuses we only have promises of victory.”
Mark Taffet, Senior Vice-President/HBO Sports:
“We have been talking about a pay-per-view fight for Golovkin for a number of years. When we first met that was one of the first questions we were asked when Golovkin came on to the network. Finally, you can say that Golovkin is on Pay-Per-View, you have GGG on PPV.
“David Lemieux is a champion in his own right and I want to make sure we have everything covered so we can see David on PPV as well.
“Who will stand on the mountain to carry the sport on his shoulders? Who will be recognized as the best pound-for-pound fighter? Golovkin vs. Lemieux is not only a battle of champions, where each fighter carries a devastating record of 90% knock-out ration each, but it’s the first step to determining the next era of boxing.
Joel Fisher, Executive Vice-President at Madison Square Garden:
“Madison Square Garden is “The Mecca of Boxing,” it has hosted greats like Tyson, Frazier, Sugar Ray, Hagler, Joe Lewis, Gorge Foreman and two greats sitting here today, Oscar De La Hoya and Bernard Hopkins.
“Bernard Hopkins specifically fought here 14 years ago and beat “Tito” Trinidad to become the unified middleweight world champion, and now we have Golovkin and Lemieux continuing that tradition.
“Golovkin and Lemieux may walk in the footsteps of these greats.
“This fight is a can’t miss event. Don’t look away, don’t blink, because you may miss all the action.
“We have had a tremendous sale. A historic pre-sale which has broken records at the Garden. We are almost sold out; we only have a handful of scattered seats that were freed up from production so at this point the show is technically sold out. And on Saturday I will be happy to announce a sell out crowd.
“To commemorate the tremendous sale I would like to congratulate Golovkin and Lemieux with a silver ticket on behalf of Madison Square Garden.”
David Berlin, Executive Director of the New York State Athletic Commission:
“It is a common knowledge that there is no venue with richer boxing history than Madison Square Garden. The event is elevated because of the venue, and the quality of the fights and fighters on this card. It will add to boxing’s rich history here at Madison Square Garden.
“We have the top two pound-for-pound fighters fighting on this card – Roman Gonzalez, who leads the co-main event is remarkable for a flyweight. I know he has his press conference tomorrow, but I will say now we are thrilled to welcome him to NYC where he will be facing his toughest opponent in Brian Viloria.
“In the main event we have the making of a classic, two power punchers. Golovkin who is 33-0 with 30 KO’s and Lemieux, who is 34-2 with 31 KO’s are in a sport where a single punch can change the outcome of the whole a fight. This is the kind of fight fans want to see.
“Both fighters have the ability to deliver and also to take a punch. I want to assure you that the New York State Athletic Commission is going to be here to play its role and make sure that the fighter who earns the victory has his hand raised at the end with confidence.”
Golovkin vs. Lemieux is presented by K2 Promotions and Golden Boy Promotions in association with GGG Promotions and Eye of the Tiger Management and is sponsored by Corona Extra, BI Group and Tsesnabank. The event will take place Saturday, October 17 from Madison Square Garden and will be produced and distributed live by HBO Pay-Per-View beginning at 9:00 p.m. ET/6:00 p.m. PT. Doors will open at 7:00 p.m. ET and the first fight begins at 7:05 p.m. ET.

LAMONT PETERSON VS. FELIX DIAZ JR. MEDIA WORKOUT QUOTES

ALEXANDRIA, VA (October 14) – Former world champion Lamont Peterson (33-3-1, 17 KOs) and Olympic Gold Medalist Felix Diaz Jr.(17-0, 8 KOs), who will headline this Saturday’s Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) on NBC event airing live from the EagleBank Arena at George Mason University in Fairfax, VA, hosted a media workout today at the Alexandria Boxing Club. They were joined by Lamont’s brother, Anthony Peterson (35-1, 23 KOs), local favorite Jimmy Lange (38-6-2, 25 KOs) and undefeated prospect Alantez Fox (16-0-1, 6 KOs), who will also fight October 17 in separate bouts.
The fighters worked out for media and met with dozens of children from the Charles Houston Recreation Center and the nearby Boys & Girls Club to sign autographs and take photos.
Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) on NBC televised coverage beginning at 4 p.m. ET/1 p.m. PT.
LAMONT PETERSON
“I’ve seen Diaz and I think he can fight. It’s obvious he can fight. He’s undefeated, but I really think when we get in the thick of this, experience is going to take over and I don’t think he is going to have enough to finish.
“It’s times like this when you’re with kids that you really see how important it is to be around positive role models. How you can make a difference by just being there. It is always important for me to give back and fighting in my hometown lets me do that.
“When I’m on the road, you have to move around a lot and workout in a hotel gym, but the benefit of being at home is that I get to sleep in my own bed, work out at my own gym and its 100 times better for me. At the end of the day, I love to fight in front of my hometown fans.”
FELIX DIAZ JR.
“Just like everything in life, we have to climb. Beating Lamont would be reaching new heights in my career and my life.
“After the Olympics I took a year off to think about my future. And that break led me here.
“I know what the whole world knows about Lamont Peterson. He’s a tremendous fighter…but that doesn’t matter. I’m still going to beat him.
“A world title shot is in my future and I think this fight is what’s going to open the door for me.”
ANTHONY PETERSON
“We get our work in everyday. This is a whole family type of atmosphere.
“I’ve seen tapes on my opponent. He’s a tough southpaw. I’m looking forward to fighting him on Saturday night.
“I love supporting my brother. He is my best friend and I’m so happy we are on the same card and representing DC and Headbangers in front of a hometown crowd.
“I definitely want a world title shot soon and I’m staying at 135. It’s where I’m comfortable and where I will continue to become better and better.”
JIMMY LANGE
“I prepared for this fight the same way I prepare for every fight. There’s no film on my opponent [Mike Sawyer], so I prepared for King Kong and got in the very best shape.
“It’s an honor [to fight on a card headlined by Lamont Peterson] because he has brought boxing back to DC and the DC metropolitan area.
“I am absolutely honored to be on this card, because Lamont is a real champion in and out of the ring. You don’t hear anything bad about him, because there isn’t anything bad to say.”
ALANTEZ FOX
“Training camp went really well. I feel very strong. I’ve got a few more pounds to cut and that’s it.
“I know my opponent [Eric Mitchell] is tough. Normally Philly fighters are always tough.
“It’s going to be easy from round one to the end. You’re not going to want to turn away because, if you do, you could miss something good.
“Every time I fight, I want to entertain the fans, like I’m the main event, even if I’m not the main event.”

BRAD SOLOMON AND RAY SERRANO READY TO TAKE CENTER STAGE IN 10-ROUND WELTERWEIGHT OPENING BOUT OF METROPCS FRIDAY NIGHT KNOCKOUT ON truTV®

BROOKLYN (October 14 , 2015) — Undefeated contender BRAD “King” SOLOMON of Layfayette, LA and Philadelphia’s RAYMOND “Tito” SERRANO will step into the spotlight when they open the Friday, October 16 edition of the “MetroPC Friday Night Knockout on truTV” live telecast from Brooklyn’s AVIATOR Sports and Events Center (3159 Flatbush Ave., Brooklyn, NY 11234), beginning at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT. The Solomon vs. Serrano 10-round welterweight rumble is the co-main event to the NABO light heavyweight championship fight between the Pride of Long Beach, New York, “Irish” SEANIE MONAGHAN, risking his undefeated record and Top-Five world rating, and Chicago knockout artist DONOVAN “Da Bomb” GEORGE. BRAD “King” SOLOMON (25-0, 9 KOs)
“I got in trouble when I was 17 and was sentenced to eight years in prison. But the DA said if I went in and got my GED and showed I was doing the right things he would reduce my sentence. So I joined the prison boxing team and began to fight. Some of the fights were against Lifers — who were never getting out of prison and who were the toughest fighters of all. They had nothing to lose. I was able to beat them.
“It was my mother who went to the D.A. to tell him I was doing good and was turning my life around. He came to see me and I was eventually let out of prison.
“I fought as an amateur and got a big win over future world champions Demetrius Andrade, Jessie Vargas and Danny Garcia.
“I’ve been waiting for a big network fight and now we have it on truTV. I know the importance of it. It will take me only a round or two to figure out Ray Serrano. I will box him, counter, mix it up, show my skills. This win will get me closer to what I really want – a fight on HBO”
RAY “Tito” SERRANO (21-2, 9 KOs)
“I’m a Philly fighter and a lot of Philly fighters have been on hard times, been in the ghetto, have no money. So when you walk into a Philly Gym you can find a hard fight real quick.
“My parents are from Puerto Rico. So when I fight I bring excitement, fans waving Puerto flags and me throwing hard punches.
“I knew who Brad Solomon was but not sure who he is now. Who has he really beaten? I’m trained by Buddy McGirt. Once Solomon feels my power on Friday night he’s going to change up his game plan real quick. I am smart in the ring with a good jab and with great punching power. It’s going to be ‘Tito Time’ on Friday night on truTV.”
THE OFFICIAL WEIGH-IN — WHICH IS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC — WILL TAKE PLACE ON THURSDAY AT 3:00 P.M. AT THE PARK SPORTS BAR & GRILL (20 West Park Ave., Long Beach, NY 11561).

WORLD SERIES OF FIGHTING HITS THE COSMOPOLITAN OF LAS VEGAS WITH THE RETURN OF TYRONE SPONG FRIDAY, DEC. 18, LIVE ON NBCSN
LAS VEGAS (Oct. 14, 2015) – World Series of Fighting (WSOF) will head to The Chelsea inside The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas for the first time ever with a star-studded, world championship event featuring the long-awaited return of Tyrone “King of the Ring” Spong as well as a title defense by reigning featherweight champion Lance Palmer, on Friday, Dec. 18, live on NBCSN at 9 p.m. EST / 6 p.m. PST.
Spong (2-0 MMA, 2-0 boxing, 74-7-1, 1 NC, 46 KO’s kickboxing) of Boca Raton, Florida via Paramaribo, Suriname will face off with an opponent to be determined, and Palmer (10-1) will put his belt on the line against the winner of the WSOF 24 matchup between Alexandre Almeida (16-5) of Manaus, Brazil and Saul Almeida (18-5) of Boston, Mass.
Tickets to WSOF 26 go on-sale Friday, Oct. 16 at 10 a.m. PST. Priced at $119, $69 and $39, tickets will be available for purchase at www.cosmopolitanlasvegas.com , www.WSOF.com or www.ticketmaster.com.
“We are looking forward to making our debut at one of the finest venues in the fight capital of the world, and to another historic night of MMA action with the return of both Tyrone Spong, one of the sport’s hottest commodities, and Lance Palmer, a prolific world champion,” said World Series of Fighting President Ray Sefo.
At age 30, Spong’s appearance will bring an end to the phenom’s absence from competition that was prompted by a broken leg that he sustained in the kickboxing ring in April 2014.
A veteran of 87 professional bouts collectively across MMA, kickboxing and boxing, the one-of-a-kind Spong, who began his career as a protégé of retired K-1 kickboxing legend Ernesto Hoost, has devoted his life to becoming the first fighter to capture a major world championship in each combat sport.
Palmer, a member of superstar Urijah Faber’s Team Alpha Male fight squad, will risk his title for the second time since the 27-year-old seized the coveted championship from rival Rick “The Gladiator” Glenn in the co-main event of WSOF 16 on Dec, 13, 2014.
With the third round (3:09) submission (rear-naked choke) victory over Glenn, Palmer snapped Glenn’s incredible, unbeaten run that spanned 13 fights over four years.
Palmer, who owns six wins by way of submission, successfully defended his belt for the first time on June 5, forcing battle-tested veteran Chris Horodecki to tap out from a neck crank in the first round (4:28) of action.
Additional matchups for WSOF 26 will be announced soon. The card is subject to change.

Feigenbutz aims to extend KO streak against De Carolis on Saturday night
Vincent Feigenbutz (20-1, 19 KOs) is promising a spectacular performance on Saturday night as the twenty year-old power puncher prepares to defend his interim WBA World Super Middleweight title against Italy’s Giovanni De Carolis (23-5, 11 KOs) at the dm-Arena in Karlshrue, Germany.
Bolstered by local support, the young talent, who will be headlining his first show, is confident he can continue his run of impressive knockout victories against the wily veteran De Carolis.
‘’The support I have received has been fantastic,’’ said Feigenbutz at today’s final pre-fight press conference. ‘’On Saturday night, I want to repay all my fans with another spectacular performance. I know De Carolis is a good experienced opponent, but once I catch him on the chin, he will wish he never stepped into the ring with me.’’
The Italian challenger shares the young champion’s confidence and believes his experience will be the decisive factor in their battle for the WBA interim crown.
‘’I know he is strong and powerful, but what the boy is lacking is experience, and this will be my key to victory,’’ said De Carolis. ‘’I know how to stand and fight against a puncher, and who is to say I wont be the one landing the knockout blow?’
Much has been made of the De Carolis’ ability to withstand a punch in the build up to the fight. He has only been stopped once in his twenty-eight-fight career, and having previously gone twelve rounds with the hard-hitting Arthur Abraham, the 31 year-old has said he expects no problems standing up to Feigenbutz’s power.
‘’If De Carolis believes Vincent and Arthur Abraham share the same clout then he is in for a rude awakening,’’ said Feigenbutz’s coach Hans-Peter Brenner. ‘’Vincent hits considerably harder, and on Saturday night, he will feel the full force of those punches and I expect him to throw in towel.’’
‘’The fans are going to see something special on Saturday night,’’ said promoter Kalle Sauerland. ‘’Here we have a twenty year-old who in the last twenty-four months has scored thirteen successive knockout wins. He faces a tough test against De Carolis, which if he overcomes, will leave me in no doubt that he will become Team Sauerland’s youngest ever World Champion!’’
Tickets for Vicent Feigenbutz’s interim WBA World Super Middleweight title defence against Giovanni De Carolis are available online via eventim.de and tickethall.de.
KAZAKH BROOKLYN BRAWLERS NIYAZOV, EYUBOV EAGERLY AWAIT GGG’S RETURN TO THE GARDEN

BROOKLYN, N.Y. (Oct. 14, 2015) – When undefeated middleweight titleholder Gennady Golovkin stepped into the ring at Madison Square Garden last May and knocked out Daniel Geale – logging what was at the time his 17th-straight TKO victory – many New Yorkers took notice of the Kazakh boxing champion for the first time.
Now, when GGG tilts with David Lemieux this coming Saturday at “The World’s Most Famous Arena,” he brings with him a global following. And for at least two of his Kazakh countryman and boxing colleagues who now make their homes and train in the Borough of Brooklyn, instead of saying, “I told you so,” or “He’s all ours, we knew him first,” they’ll simply be beaming with pride among the thousands of spectators at “The Mecca of Boxing” this weekend.
Undefeated junior lightweight contender Dimash Niyazov of Bensonhurst – a Brooklyn police officer whose story was chronicled by the Wall Street Journal this past August, and whose next Brooklyn Brawl fight is Oct. 29 at the Aviator Sports and Events Complex in South Brooklyn – was born in Kazakhstan and came to New York when he was 13 years old. Like many, Niyazov believes that as big as luminary as Golovkin currently is, as he continues to amass world titles, add to his incredible 33-0 record and increase his stunning 30 KO total, his star can continue to rise to the highest apex of boxing today.
“Right now he’s one of the biggest things in boxing,” said Niyazov, who himself is undefeated as a pro at 8-0-3 (5 KOs). “Boxing people talk about him like he might replace Floyd Mayweather at the top. He’s at least in that neighborhood. I’m very proud because he’s from my country, he’s from my homeland. I’m very proud when someone from my country succeeds in any sport, but especially because it’s boxing and I’m a boxer. It inspires me because I see him and I think I can be the same thing.”
For Bakhtiyar Eyubov – Niyazov’s friend and training partner at Fight Factory Gym in Gravesend, Brooklyn, and a native of Aktobe, Kazakhstan – the connection to GGG runs even deeper. The power-puncher, who improved to 8-0 with eight pro KOs this past Aug. 25 in Coney Island, is considered by many to be the second-hardest Kazakh hitter in contemporary boxing, ranked only behind Golovkin. In a nation with many amateur champions who oftentimes struggle to make the leap into the pro ranks, the boxing squared circle is particularly tight.
“I am certainly a fan of GGG, I was in camp with him when we were amateurs. On BoxRec I am rated second behind him in Kazakhstan,” said Eyubov. “He is a great fighter, I am seven years younger and will carry the knockout torch. I am honored to follow in the Golovkin path. He set the stage for us, a great fighter!”
Perhaps summing up the emotions of a nation, Niyazov concluded, “Whenever he fights, I feel like the whole country of Kazakhstan and everyone with ties to that country is in his corner. GGG is at a level right now where everyone is looking up to him, he carries a whole country on his back. When he wins, I win. We all win.”
“With Golovkin and Wladimir Klitschko dominating boxing right now, many of the fighters in our Brooklyn Brawl series are trying to follow in their footsteps. Dimash and Bakhtiyar are no exceptions,” said boxing champion-turned-promoter Dmitriy Salita. “Many Brooklyn Brawl participants are from former Soviet countries and made their homes in New York City to make a name for themselves in the world center for professional boxing.”
On Thursday, Oct. 29, the Aviator Sports and Events Center in South Brooklyn will serve as the proving ground for many New York City-based rising stars. Niyazov will have his mettle tested once again after improving his record with a six-round Aug. 25 Boxing At The Beach unanimous decision victory over local fighter Ariel “Fuego” Duran in a Brooklyn-Queens crosstown rivalry bout.
GOLOVKIN ADMITS LEMIEUX IS BIGGEST TEST AS MIDDLEWEIGHT KNOCKOUT KINGS CLASH IN PULSATING WORLD TITLE UNIFICATION LIVE ON BOXNATION

LONDON (October 14) – Thrilling middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin has admitted that he faces his toughest test to date this Saturday night.
The potential heir to Floyd Mayweather’s mythical pound-for-pound throne has taken the boxing world by storm over the last year by blitzing his way to the very top of the 160-pound division.
Now, however, the undefeated 33-year-old big puncher, who has 20 knockouts in a row from a record of 33 wins and 30 stoppages, goes up against an equally formidable foe in IBF champion David Lemieux, exclusively live on BoxNation.
The WBA and IBO world champion is well aware that the clash with Canadian Lemieux will be his hardest fight yet, in a division brimming with talent, including Miguel Cotto and Canelo Alvarez who meet next month and Andy Lee and Billy Joe Saunders later this year, all exclusively live on BoxNation.
“This is the biggest test for me. He’s the IBF champ. It’s big situation, unification, pay-per-view. Right now it’s a very interesting situation to be in in the middleweight division. I think we have three or four fighters and it’s very important who is number one,” said Golovkin.
“Right now I’m going to focus on David Lemieux because he is a good fighter. He’s champion.
“The future, yes, of course [other big fights interest me], but now the middleweight division it’s a good situation, very interesting situation, three or four fighters, Alvarez, Miguel Cotto and Andy Lee – I want to unify the belts.
“My goal is always about the middleweight division; my focus is on that weight division,” he said.
Though Lemieux himself is no slouch when it comes to letting his fists fly having accumulated 31 knockouts from 34 wins, with just two defeats, the Kazakh assassin thinks it will come down to more than just power.
“I think we both have a great punch. David is strong, too. I know my power, so it’s not just power, just a little bit different class, you know, boxing class, timing, speed, discipline, and this is very important for us,” Golovkin said.
His respected trainer Abel Sanchez agrees and believes the superior boxing IQ of his charge will be the telling factor in the fight, taking place at the iconic Madison Square Garden in New York.
“They both have power and speed and great knockout records but the IQ, the boxing IQ will be the difference, because Gennady thinks that it’s a different class, as far as that part of it goes, and he will be able to get to David, because he will figure him out, but David can punch so it’s not like it’s going to be an easy fight.
“Both of them have punching power, but Gennady’s IQ is higher in the sense of boxing wise,” said Sanchez.
The younger man at 26, Lemieux knows that he goes into the fight as the underdog despite a sensational performance in his last fight to claim the IBF belt from the tough and durable Hassan N’Dam, who he knocked down four times.
“It is kind of like David and Goliath. Everyone is impressed by this big GGG, he is impressive and talented but there is also David who is making a lot of noise,” said Lemieux.
“I know what I am going up against and I am going in with a nice package to deliver to Golovkin. Power is not something that frightens me. Nothing really frightens me when I’m in the ring, when I know I’m prepared.
“I know I’m going to take on the strongest there is, and I’m very confident in my strength so I have zero worries going into a fight against anybody when I’m perfectly ready, which I am today,” he said.
Golovkin v Lemieux is exclusively live on BoxNation (Sky 437/490HD, Virgin 525, TalkTalk 415, online or app) this Saturday night. Visit boxnation.com to subscribe.

‘Bang Bang’ Blackwell defends British title against Matthews on November 14
LONDON (14 OCTOBER) ‘Bang Bang’ Nick Blackwell will defend his British middleweight championship against unbeaten southpaw Elliott Matthews on November 14 at Bristol’s City Academy, LIVE on Channel 5.
The middleweight title fight, scheduled for 12 rounds, tops a bill that also includes appearances from Hughie Lewis Fury, Young Fury and Yusuf Safa, as well as local lads David Bailey, Duane Winters, Dan Sarkozi, Lee Nutland, Ashley Lane, Ryan Wheeler, Liam Hunt and Tim Cutler.
Challenger Elliott Matthews is undefeated in 16 professional fights, boasts a record of 15-0-1 (9 KOs), and is the current Southern Area middleweight champion. The 34-year-old hails from Watford and boxed as an amateur for both Repton and Callowland amateur boxing clubs.
Since turning pro in January 2012, Matthews has barely put a foot wrong. He won the Southern Area middleweight title in September 2013 with a 10-round decision win over Gary Boulden, and then successfully defended it five months later against Diego Burton.
Known as ‘The Knockout King’, Matthews has heavy hands, an all-action style and has knocked out three of his last four opponents. He is also the third southpaw opponent Blackwell will have faced in a row.
The champion Blackwell, meanwhile, snared the Lonsdale belt back in May with a stunning seventh-round stoppage of John Ryder at a sold-out O2 Arena, live on Sky Sports Box Office. The 24-year-old then followed that breakout performance with a highlight-reel knockout of unbeaten challenger Damon Jones in July. Such results have quickly earmarked ‘Bang Bang’ as one of the most exciting and watchable fighters in the country.
“Blackwell is on an incredible run of form at the moment and has produced two of the most dramatic moments in British boxing this year,” said promoter Mick Hennessy. “His win over Ryder was a big upset in many people’s eyes and his knockout against Jones was as good as any you’ll see.
“What’s even more impressive is the fact he’s looking to take fighters’ unbeaten records and stop men who don’t usually get stopped. Ryder, for example, had never been stopped before he met Blackwell, and Jones had never lost a pro fight.
“Elliott Matthews is a dangerous challenger with all the ambition and confidence that comes with an unbeaten record. But, as with Jones, Blackwell will be looking to take Matthews out of his comfort zone and hand him his first taste of defeat. All in all, it should make for another Blackwell classic.”

CONLAN AND BUTLER ENGAGE IN WAR OF WORDS AHEAD OF POTENTIAL SHOWDOWN
Super-flyweight stars Jamie Conlan and Paul Butler are heading towards a potential blockbuster showdown next year and the pair will meet face-to-face next month.
Conlan headlines a title packed Irish extravaganza show at Dublin’s National Stadium on Saturday 7th November when he makes the second defence of his WBO Intercontinental crown, exclusively live on BoxNation, with Butler providing commentary ringside TV commentary on the night.
It’s a mouthwatering fight between the little men of boxing with plenty of passion and bragging rights between the 115lb rivals that packs just as big a punch as any matches in the heavyweight division.
Undefeated Colan proved why he’s a fight fans’ favourite when he came through a thriller in his last fight in July against hard Mexican Junior Granados at the iconic venue. He overcame two knockdowns in the seventh round to fight his way back and win on the judges’ scorecards.
However his Ellesmere Port adversary, a former IBF World Bantamweight Champion and IBF World Super-Flyweight title challenger, has stoked up the fire by saying that he wasn’t impressed with Conlan’s performance and believes that he can beat the Belfastman if they met.
“Personally I think Conlan’s a good kid, but he’s not good enough to beat me,” said Butler.
“He’s got plenty of heart and I respect that, but against me he’d have to show a lot more than just grit,”
“I’m confident that I’d beat him, whether he stood in front of me, if I took it to him, or if I boxed him, I know I’d come out the winner,”
“There’s not any department that he could beat me from what I’ve seen. If that Mexican kid Granados pushed him back what’s he going to do against the likes of me? I’m bigger and stronger and I’d do what I want to him,”
“I’m looking forward to seeing him up close on the 7th November in Dublin. I hope he shows me something more that what I’ve seen of him,”
“With that said, I know he would raise his against me if we met. It’s a fight that has got the man on the street talking and then you know it’s a big fight.”
Conlan reckons he has Butler’s number and could stop him even earlier than African Zolani Tete who is the only man to have defeated Butler.
“Butler’s is a world level fight so I want his name on my record,” Said Conlan.
“He’s done it at bantamweight, but was exposed at super-fly against Tete, I feel that I have his number and would expose him. He’s show more weaknesses in the fights that he’s won than he’s lost,”
“I get asked everyday ‘When are you going to knockout him out?’. I believe that the fight has got to happen soon. I want it, he wants it, the fans and press want it, so bring it on.”
“I can’t wait to return to the National Stadium on the 7th November for another great night of action, Butler will be there so I hope he doesn’t get cold feet after seeing me fight in the flesh,”
“The fans who come out and support me are fantastic and really make a special atmosphere in there. It definitely gave me a lift when they roared me back up in the seventh round against Granados. I knew they had paid good, hard earned, money to come and watch me so I had to get back up and give them there result they wanted.”
“A victory on the 7th November is crucial to keep the Butler fight alive so I’ll be at my best and give it everything I’ve got. I can’t wait.”
An action packed card features a further three exciting title fights: Peter McDonagh and Dean Byrne clash for the Vacant Welterweight Championship of Ireland; a big-hitting showdown between Dublin’s Ian Tims and County Mayo’s Michael Sweeney for the Celtic Warrior Cruiserweight Championship; Dublin’s Declan Garaghty will challenge for the Celtic Warrior Super-Featherweight Championship. An action packed undercard includes top Irish talents: Dublin cruiserweight David McGuire, Dublin middleweight Ciaran Mullen, Belfast heavyweight Sean Turner, Belfast featherweight Ciaran McVarnock and red-hot Belfast lightweight Joe Fitzpatrick.
Tickets are priced at €25, €40, €60, €100, €150 and are available from www.tickets.ie and 0818 33 3231

VIDEO: Golovkin vs. Lemieux Final Press Conference at 1 PM ET
GENNADY “GGG” GOLOVKIN VS. DAVID LEMIEUX FINAL MEDIA WORKOUT QUOTE

NEW YORK CITY (October 13, 2015) WBA, IBO and WBC “Interim” Middleweight World Champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin, (33-0, 30KOs) and IBF Middleweight World Champion David Lemieux (34-2, 31 KOs) hosted their fight week media workout today alongside number one Pound-for-Pound Fighter and WBC Flyweight World Champion Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez, (43-0, 37KOs) and Four-Time World Champion in two weight divisions Brian “The Hawaiian Punch” Viloria, (36-4 (22KOs) at the Theater at Madison Square Garden in advance of their anticipated matchups on October 17 at “The Mecca of Boxing” Madison Square Garden. The Middleweight World Championship Title Unification will be produced and distributed live by HBO Pay-Per-View.
Golovkin vs. Lemieux is one of the most anticipated bouts of the year breaking records for Madison Square by selling the most tickets during pre-sale for a major boxing event.
Below are what the fighters and their teams had to say at today’s media workout:
GENNADY “GGG” GOLOVKIN, WBA, IBO and WBC Interim Middleweight World Champion:
“This is the biggest test for me. He’s the IBF champ. It’s big situation, unification, Pay-Per-View. Right now it’s a very interesting situation to be in in the middleweight division. I think we have three or four fighters and it’s very important who is number one.”
DAVID LEMIEUX, IBF Middleweight World Champion:
“What I have done with the degree of the fight and the intensity for this fight, I know I have to be better than I was for N’Dam.
“Bernard Hopkins and Oscar De La Hoya are letting me do what I need to do. I have a great team around me and they feel very confident in my abilities.
“I am aware of his record but I am also aware of who I am and what I can bring to the table. My concern is the present and making sure I win on Oct. 17
“I am going to be a lion in there. Nothing is going to be in my way.
“It is kind of like David and Goliath. Everyone is impressed on this big GGG, he is impressive and talented but there is also David who is making a lot of noise. I know what I am going up against and I am going in with a nice package to deliver to Golovkin.”
ROMAN “CHOCOLATITO” GONZALEZ, WBC Flyweight World Champion:
“This fight is going to be exciting. It’s impossible to predict if it will end in a knockout or if it will go the distance.
“I loved the opportunity to be fighting at Madison Square Garden. I feel blessed, and I want to give the best fight ever to the world and demonstrate why I am the best in the world.
“When we go into the fighting game we do it for family, to provide for them. But once you have it all, boxing has taken me to different places where I have been able to proudly represent Nicaragua. That is a great motivation for me; it’s a passion for me. I want to leave a legacy. It is what God has given to me, and I feel happy to share it with the world.
BRIAN “HAWAIIAN PUNCH” VILORIA, Former Four-Time World Champion in Two Weight Divisions:
“I am prepared mentally and expect everything and am ready for it. Now all I have to do is wait a few more days for the fight to happen.
“I have no pressure. I believe all the pressure is on him to maintain and stay number one. This is a motivation for me to train harder, to run longer, faster. The hard part is done. The easy part is performing and that is the fun part.
“I try not to think about everything, my concern is giving it my all. I can live with that and I am prepared to leave it all in the ring.
“I have fought at swap meets and parking lots, and to be at a place like Madison Square Garden on HBO Pay-Per-View this is a dream come true for me. I want to do the best I can do to make this fight entertaining for all the fans.”
TOM LOEFFLER, Managing Director of K2 Promotions:
“We’re very excited to be here in New York City with this terrific event. The response from the fans and media has just been outstanding, and we’re looking forward to a great evening on Saturday.
“Gennady has had a great camp up in Big Bear with Abel, and he’s ready to put on another strong performance against David Lemieux.
“This is Gennady’s first title unification and first Pay-Per-View, and he’s been looking forward to Saturday night in front of his very supportive fans here in New York City and at Madison Square Garden.”
BERNARD HOPKINS, Future Hall of Famer and Golden Boy Promotions Partner:
“David is ready to become the unified middleweight world champion. I saw him in Montreal and he looked so strong. Today he looks ready to take Golovkin’s head off.”
ERIC GOMEZ, Senior Vice President of Golden Boy Promotions:
“I saw David three weeks ago and today he looks so fast and strong. Now not only does he have the power that we all know David Lemieux for, but he also has speed and it’s going to be a dangerous night for Golovkin.”
ABEL SANCHEZ, Head Trainer to Gennady Golovkin:
“I don’t think David is going to change his stripes now. I think David is going to come at him and expose himself and give Gennady an opportunity to knock him out.
“I would say Curtis Stevens, who was as dangerous if not more than Lemieux because of his reputation- I think you look at him a little bit different.
“The Chin-Checkers, they were beating everybody up and as a coach I look at what guys have done in the past. David is a force, but I think he’s going to be really surprised when he gets checked the first time.”
MARC RAMSAY, Head Trainer to David Lemieux:
“David has shown tremendous commitment, determination and focus in the gym. This fight has brought out the best in David Lemieux.
“This has been one of the best training camps we have had and everyone will see how powerful David Lemieux is on Oct. 17.”
Golovkin vs. Lemieux is presented by K2 Promotions and Golden Boy Promotions in association with GGG Promotions and Eye of the Tiger Management and is sponsored by Corona Extra, BI Group and Tsesnabank. Monaghan & George Let It Rip. It’s truTV Fight Week – Brooklyn Style Baby!

BROOKLYN (October 13, 2015) — A Mets-Cubs showdown has nothing on the upcoming Brooklyn brawl between Long Beach, New York’s undefeated No. 4 world-rated light heavyweight contender “Irish” SEANIE MONAGHAN and Chicago’s DONOVAN “Da Bomb” GEORGE. Monaghan (25-0, 16 KOs) and George (25-4-2, 22 KOs) will be battling for the vacant North American Boxing Organization (NABO) light heavyweight title This Friday! October 16, at AVIATOR Sports and Events Center (3159 Flatbush Ave., Brooklyn, NY 11234). The 10-round fight will be televised live as the main event of “The MetroPC Friday Night Knockout on truTV,” beginning at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT. The telecast will open with a 10-round welterweight rumble between undefeated contender BRAD “King” SOLOMON (25-0, 9 KOs), of Layfayette, LA and Philadelphia’s RAYMOND “Tito” SERRANO (21-2, 9 KOs). The live boxing series is presented by truTV and Top Rank®, and produced in association with HBO Sports®. Find truTV on your TV: http://trutvishere.com/.
These four warriors boast a combined record of 96-6-2 (56 KOs) — a winning percentage of 92%, with over half of their combined victories coming by way of knockout.

“I want to wipe out Top Rank’s stable. It starts Friday with “Irish Stew” Seanie Monaghan, the easiest fight of the three Top Rank fighters I’m declaring war on” said George. “Then I want to get my hands on Jesse “Out of Work” Hart. I want to shut his trap. Philadelphia hasn’t been a fight town in decades and Hart is softer than a tub of Philadelphia cream cheese. Finally, I want Top Rank’s Mexican darling Gilberto “Zero” Ramirez — a fighter who lives up to his ring name.”
“I know the Cubs have been suffering from the Curse of the Billy Goat but I didn’t know the goat could talk until I heard Donovan George’s comments today,” retorted Monaghan. “Poor Donovan is in for a shock on Friday night. It’s fitting that his professional demise will be in Brooklyn because ‘Da Bomb’ will leave as ‘Da Bum’ after I knock him out. The only thing Donovan will be wiping out are the cobwebs I put in his head.”
THE OFFICIAL WEIGH-IN — WHICH IS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC — WILL TAKE PLACE ON THURSDAY AT 3:00 P.M. AT THE PARK SPORTS BAR & GRILL (20 West Park Ave., Long Beach, NY 11561).
