SHOWTIME® TO TELEVISE KELL BROOK VS. DIEGO CHAVES IBF WELTERWEIGHT WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP ON SATURDAY, OCT. 24, LIVE FROM SHEFFIELD, ENGLAND

Kell Brook
NEW YORK (Sept. 29, 2015) – SHOWTIME Sports® will present the IBF Welterweight World Championship between undefeated defending champion Kell Brook and contender Diego Chaves on Saturday, Oct. 24, live on SHOWTIME at 5:45 p.m. ET / 2:45 p.m. PT from Motorpoint Arena in Sheffield, England.

The SHOWTIME BOXING INTERNATIONAL presentation of the Sky Sports telecast will feature analysis from SHOWTIME boxing experts Brian Custer, Al Bernstein and Paulie Malignaggi before and after the world championship showdown. An encore presentation of the bout will air on SHOWTIME later that evening at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

“I’m delighted that my fight with Chaves is going to be shown in the U.S.,” said Brook, who hails from Sheffield and will be the favorite in this fight. “I was thrilled when I saw my name in the top 10 of the pound-for-pound list in The Ring Magazine, and now is the time that I need to show the fans in the U.S. that I am a must-see fighter.

“Chaves is an all-action boxer who always comes to fight, and that is the perfect style for me to shine on Oct. 24. I look forward to putting on an explosive performance and making the U.S. stand up and take notice that I am the best welterweight in the world.”

“We know Brook is a tough fighter, very technical,” said Diego Chaves. “But he is not a fast fighter and he is easily bothered by body punches, which is one of our strengths. I believe he has problems going backwards, and we are going to test his punching power, too.

“I feel that my confidence grows with this challenge, knowing that I will have to face a champion like Kell Brook in his home country in England. This raises the stakes for me, going up there as an Argentine and as a huge underdog. We know all the bad blood that exists between Argentina and England and this will give me much more strength. I will make history if I defeat an Englishman in his own country.”

“We’re excited to be back in business with Kell Brook, Matchroom Boxing and Eddie Hearn and to deliver this exciting matchup of top 10 welterweights to the U.S. audience,” said Stephen Espinoza, Executive Vice President and General Manager of SHOWTIME Sports. “Kell won the world title on SHOWTIME in an action-packed victory over Shawn Porter last fall, establishing himself as one of the top welterweights in the world – but Diego Chaves is a rugged fighter who has also proven that he can compete with the elite of the division.”

Brook (35-0, 24 KOs) will make his third consecutive title defense of 2015 in his native England after coming to the U.S. and dethroning previously undefeated IBF Welterweight World Champion Shawn Porter in August 2014 on SHOWTIME. The Sheffield native has scored knockouts in each of his defenses – a fourth round TKO of Jo Jo Dan on March 28 and a sixth round TKO of Frankie Gavin on May 30. Brook aims for a similar result against the veteran Chaves, who has faced some of the top fighters in the 147-pound division.

Chaves (23-2-1, 19 KOs), of Buenos Aires, Argentina, has been a road warrior in recent fights, facing favored Americans on the road in three of his last four bouts. He challenged 147-pound titlist Keith Thurman in July 2013 and, after winning by knockout in a hometown fight in Argentina, was ahead on the judges’ scorecards against Brandon Rios in August 2014 until he was disqualified for an intentional elbow to the face. In his last fight, Chaves fought to a draw against perennial welterweight champion Timothy Bradley.

MAGOMED BIBULATOV FACES DONAVON FRELOW IN FIRST-EVER WORLD SERIES OF FIGHTING FLYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP SHOWDOWN ON SATURDAY, OCTOBER 17

LAS VEGAS (Sept. 29, 2015) –World Series of Fighting (WSOF.com) announced today that it will crown its first flyweight (125 pounds) champion in history – the winner of a matchup between undefeated, surging stars Magomed “Gladiator” Bibulatov and Donavon Frelow – at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Conn. on Saturday, Oct. 17, live on NBCSN at 8:30 p.m. ET/5:30 p.m. PT.

The bout represents one of two world championship matchups that will unfold at “WSOF 24: Fitch vs. Okami,” the second being a previously announced heavyweight championship contest between reigning kingpin Blagoy Ivanov (12-1) of Sofia, Bulgaria and challenger Derek “Caveman” Mehman (19-6) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
.
“We are looking forward to crowning the first champion ever in our fast-growing and highly-competitive flyweight division, on October 17,” said World Series of Fighting President Ray Sefo.

“As two of the weight class’ most dynamic stars who have yet to be beaten, Magomed and Donavon have earned their respective places in this historic championship fight, and we are confident that the winner will personify what being a champion in World Series of Fighting is about.”

The fight marks the U.S. debut of the 27-year-old Bibulatov (9-0) of Grozny, Chechnya Russia, following a perfect, two-year run competing against opponents in his homeland as well as in France and Portugal, eventually earning the coveted, number one ranking in his weight class in Europe.

Bibulatov, a practitioner of martial arts, including sambo and wrestling, since his early youth, remains the only fighter to have beaten UFC star Taylor Lapilus, over whom Bibulatov earned a unanimous decision on October 12, 2013 in the main event of a fight card held in Lapilus’ home country of France.

In his last start on March 14, Bibulatov scored a first round (1:30) KO (punch) on Eduardo Felipe in co-main event action in Bibulatov’s hometown of Grozny.

A member of MMA legend Wanderlei Silva’s vaunted, Las-Vegas based fight team, the 30-year-old Frelow (5-0) has notched four of his five professional career victories, thus far, by way of submission.

Following a near-perfect amateur career that saw him amass an overall record of 5-1 between April 2011 and October 2013, Frelow accepted his first pro fight on just four days’ notice and at the flyweight limit of 125 pounds, 10 pounds lower than that he had previously been competing at.

Frelow persevered in his first pro start, though, defeating George Garcia by way of submission (guillotine choke) in the second round (:30) of their bout on March 6, 2014.

In his third pro outing on December 20, 2014, Frelow needed only 25 seconds to submit Donald Belcher with an armbar. Frelow has since recorded two straight wins in the World Series of Fighting decagon cage.

Priced from $39.99, tickets for “WSOF 24: Fitch vs. Okami” are on sale at Ticketmaster.com and WSOF.com.

In the welterweight main event, Jon Fitch (26-7-1, 1 NC) of Fort Wayne, Ind. will face rival superstar and grappling technician Yushin “Thunder” Okami (30-9) of Kawasaki, Kanagawa, Japan.

Doors at the Grand Theater at Foxwoods Resort Casino will open at 4:30 p.m. ET for WSOF 24, and the first preliminary card bout will begin at 5:30 p.m.

Commey brings explosive style to Karlsruhe on October 17

Ghanaian power-puncher Richard Commey (22-0, 20 KOs) continues his assault on the lightweight division on October 17 when he brings his explosive style to the dm-Arena in Karlsruhe, Germany.

The 28 year-old from Accra, who will face an as yet unnamed opponent, has raced to 22-0 since joining the paid ranks, stopping 20 of his opponents and claiming the Commonwealth and IBF Intercontinental titles.

To further his ambitions, the undefeated fighter has moved to the UK, and is now based out of the Pro SW Gym in Loughton, Essex. With the backing of his promoter Team Sauerland and manager Michael Amoo-Bediako, Commey has set his sights on the division’s top talents as he aims to prove he is ready for a World title challenge.

‘’I want to become World Champion,’’ said Commey. ‘’And with the help of my team and the grace of God, I will make this dream a reality. There are a lot of fighters out there who say they are world class but are afraid to fight me. I’m willing to face anyone to show I’m ready to challenge for World titles.

‘’I’m very thankful for the opportunity to come to the UK. There are great facilities here at the Pro SW Gym, which will help me to get the perfect preparations for my fight on October 17. The lightweight division is very strong here too. There are a lot of talented fighters and I want to test myself against the best of them.

‘’If I could chose one lightweight from the UK to fight it would be Derry Matthews. He had the chance to fight me for the Commonwealth title but he avoided me. I know he is tough but I want to find out how tough he really is!’’

Commey will be cutting short his preparations for his upcoming fight to fly back home to Ghana to receive the prestigious Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) award for ‘Professional Boxer of the Year 2015’.

With the list of previous winners including Azumah Nelson, Ike Quartey, Joshua Clottey and Joseph Agbeko, who all went on to win World titles, Commey will be in good company. The ceremony takes place on Saturday, October 3 at Banquet Hall, State House in the countries capital Accra and will be broadcast live on national television.

‘’It is a massive honour for me to receive this award,’’ said Commey. ‘’A lot of great Ghanaian fighters have won this award and gone on to become World Champions. This gives me a lot of encouragement and belief that I can follow in their footsteps and become Ghana’s next World Champion.’’

On October 17, Commey will be fighting on the undercard of interim WBA World Champion Vincent Feignbutz’s super middleweight showdown with Giovanni De Carolis, in what is guaranteed to be an entertaining evening of boxing with two of the world’s biggest pound-for-pound punchers on the card.

‘’Richard will be an exciting addition to our show on October 17 in Karlsruhe,’’ said promoter Nisse Sauerland. ‘’I think the German audience will really appreciate his all action style. There are a lot of big fights in the making for him and we’re confident he has the talent to go all the way!’’

Tickets for the Team Sauerland show on October 17 at the dm-Arena in Karlsruhe, Germany are available via tickethall.de.

OSCAR MOLINA DEDICATES TUESDAY NIGHT FIGHT TO DAN GOOSSEN, BATTLES DOMONIQUE DOLTON ON PREMIER BOXING CHAMPIONS ON FS1

LAS VEGAS, NV (September 28, 2015) Heading into the biggest fight of his career, undefeated junior middleweight prospect Oscar Molina (13-0, 10 KOs) has dedicated this contest to the memory of Dan Goossen, his longtime promoter who passed away one-year to the day when he will enter the ring against fellow undefeated prospect Domonique Dolton (17-0, 9 KOs) on Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) TOE-TO-TOE TUESDAYS on FS1 and FOX Deportes from The Pearl at Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas (9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT).

Just days prior to the fight, Molina took time from his training camp in his native Los Angeles to share his thoughts.

On being signed by Dan Goossen in 2012 following his amateur career:

“Dan was like family to us, he signed my brother Javier in 2009 and when I came back from
the London Olympics (Molina was part of the Mexican Olympic Team), he was the first promoter I talked to about turning professional. Right away I felt very comfortable working with him.”

On Dan’s personality and promotional work:

“Dan always lit up a room, he was always in a great mood and I always liked being around him. He genuinely cared about me and our family and it was much more than a promoter/fighter relationship. That’s how he was to all the fighters, we were family to him.”

On dedicating the upcoming fight to him:

“It was an honor to fight for Dan and I’m dedicating this fight to him. It’s still hard to
believe he’s gone but I can win for him on Tuesday night, the one year anniversary of his passing.”

On fighting Domonique Dolton on Premier Boxing Champions:

“I beat him in the amateurs in 2007 but that was a long time ago. He’s the toughest opponent of my career and we both have a lot to gain with a victory. He’s also got a lot of amateur experience but we’ve put in the work for the victory.”

“I’m thrilled to be fighting on FS1, the whole world can watch me, this is great exposure for both of us and for the sport.

Said Tom Brown of TGB Promotions, who worked with Goossen for many years, “This is a great opportunity for Oscar and one we feel he’s well prepared to be victorious in. Dan always thought he could be a world champion and this is the next step.”

UFC® SCHEDULES EVENT IN NEW YORK’S HISTORIC MADISON SQUARE GARDEN

ufc_title-belt_206
Las Vegas ? UFC® today announced a series of important steps to bring mixed martial arts (MMA) events to New York. These efforts include the scheduling of the organization’s first, professional MMA event in New York since the state’s ban in 1997. This event will take place at Madison Square Garden on April 23, 2016 featuring UFC’s top champions competing with other world-class athletes inside the Octagon®. UFC is also taking additional steps through the federal courts to ensure the event’s success.

“We believe fight fans have waited long enough to experience live UFC events in the state of New York and we are thrilled to announce our first event at Madison Square Garden,” UFC Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Lawrence Epstein said. “Professional MMA is legal around of the world and it is about time New York followed suit.”

In August, UFC filed an appeal in the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit – the federal appellate court with jurisdiction over New York – stating that New York’s prohibition of regulated professional MMA events violates the First Amendment rights of athletes and fans throughout the state.

On September 28, UFC filed a new case in federal court, reiterating its claim that the New York law banning MMA events is unconstitutional. This out-of-date law is too unclear for the public to understand, and has allowed regulators in New York to pick and choose arbitrarily what events they will permit. Events featuring every combat sport except MMA seem to be allowed in New York, though this is not explicitly stated in the law. The statute, and the state’s pattern of enforcing it, violates the Constitution’s prohibition on unconstitutionally vague laws.

Later this week, UFC will ask a federal judge to issue a preliminary injunction against New York state officials enforcing its unconstitutional law. Without such an injunction, the event at Madison Square Garden will not be able to proceed.

Duane Grimes seeking revenge over Sean Ben Mulligan Oct 31st

Being a former two time National ABA champion doesn’t always guarantee you success in the professional ranks, that, up to now has been the case with Luton light-welterweight Duane ‘Bang Bang’ Grimes. A top class amateur, Grimes was destined for big things in the pro ranks when he turned over in December 2010.

For his pro debut, Grimes travelled up to Tyne and Wear to take on 1-0 local prospect Glen Foot. Grimes had dreams of boxing grandeur and was ready to take his amateur success into the pros and seek to become a world champion. Then just nine days before he was due to fight, his long time trainer and mentor Jim Turner died of pneumonia.

Indeed, the funeral of Turner had not even taken place by the time he decided to go through with the fight with Foot. Grimes was stopped in the 1st round. After that his career went on a downward spiral until he quit after suffering 5 losses in 6 fights. That was in 2012, fast forward to 2015 and Grimes, a Tiler and painter by trade and also a part time door man, re-applied for his licence and returned to boxing to give it another go in June.

“I should have turned pro in 2004 but kept ifing and buting and didn’t do it.” Grimes said.

“2010 was the last time I really trained properly, and then my trainer Jim died just before my pro debut. After that my head wasn’t right. I couldn’t train, I took fights at two days notice, messed about and just never took it seriously.

“There was a time I was ranked top 15 in Britain as an amateur. Now as a pro, my record is far from impressive. I got sick of losing so I stopped boxing. Call me superstitious or stupid but, the last time I trained hard Jim died, a part of me thought if I train hard again, something bad will happen!”

“I’m still not over Jim’s death, but he wouldn’t want me to go out like that, so I’ve come back to right some wrongs and it starts on October 31st.”

A boxer with a losing record will fast become a journeyman in this game and young up coming prospects will be matched with them to build up their early careers, Grimes has now found himself in that category. But the Luton man is still ready and willing to turn the tide when the chance arises, against Sean Ben Mulligan in July, he nearly did just that!

Mulligan, 22, from Manchester was having his 3rd pro fight against Grimes and after an even first round, Mulligan began to tire dramatically as Grimes piled on the pressure. It looked as if Mulligan had nothing left in the 3rd and was there for their taking. Grimes began to turn the screw and looked ready to stop Mulligan, only for the Black Flash Promotions boxer to turn the fight around and stop Grimes, much to ‘Bang Bangs’ disappointment.

After the fight Mulligan was rushed to hospital after suffering dehydration and dizziness, he was given the all clear after several tests and he was back in the gym the next week after accepting the rematch request from Grimes.

“In the first fight against Mulligan I was winning it up until I was stopped prematurely.” Grimes said. “I felt like I could pretty much do what I wanted to him on the inside. I was starting to get bored and just wanted to knock him out, I got careless and left myself open.

“The ref or Doctor said they saw blood in my ear. I don’t know where they got that from. If you watch the end of the fight, you’ll see me say “I’m alright!

“But I’m not gonna cry over spilt milk, I asked for the rematch at the end of the fight I always do, simply because I know how and where I went wrong and I want to put it right and get the revenge a win against Mulligan can kick start my career.

“I think the main thing is I’m not training as I know I should be. Part of me thinks, ‘If I beat these guy’s, it’s gonna make it harder for me to get fights’ Yeah I trained leading up to the fight, but I wasn’t training how I know I should.

“Sometimes I just wanna get in there and have a fight, so that’s what I did, and normally do. If I would have stuck to my boxing, then the outcome would have been different. I am way better than my record would suggest, so yeah I felt a little unhappy with the stoppage, but he’s the home boxer etc.. But it will be a different story next time.

“Im training harder now, regular, I have changed my diet. As far as tactics I will pretty much do what I did last time but the result will be reversed, no offence to him but I didn’t rate him at all. It’s in his home town, so no pressure on me, I will be ready and I’m coming for him.”

The Sean Ben Mulligan vs Duane ‘Bang Bang’ Grimes II fight is part of a fantastic fight card taking place at the Castle Bury Leisure Centre on October 31st. This Black Flash Promotions bill, which will be shown live on BBTV www.britishboxers.co.uk and will feature headline act Zelfa Barrett in his 7th pro fight against Huddersfield’s Ismail Anwar.

Also on the show will be unbeaten super-bantamweight prospect Michael Gomez Jnr, son of former world champion Michael Gomez. Gomez will be having his 5th pro fight vs TBA. – Highly Touted Salford light-middleweight Chris ‘Fat Boy’ Monaghan, the former 19st plus heavyweight, who now fights at 11st, will take on Hull’s Paul O’Brien in his 3rd fight.

Former Commonwealth games champion originally from Cameroon, now fighting out of Manchester, Blaze ‘The Lion’ Mendouo will have his 3rd pro fight on the card, an opponent is yet to be named. Local Bury favourite and highly regarded 19 year-old lightweight Fahim Mohammed will have his 3rd fight against Surrey’s Danny Parsons. Parson’s a 21 year old with plenty of ambition in the pro ranks himself will give home boy Fahim a good early career test in this battle of young hungry prospects.

21 year old, Sam ‘Nowhere2’ Hyde, the unbeaten Manchester cruiserweight prospect, trained by former champion Ensley Bingham will take on the rugged Northern Ireland based Ugandan Moses Matovu in what promises to be a good scrap and a good test for Hyde.

Making up the bill will be top female amateur Laura ‘Cyclone’ Kelly who will be making her professional debut.

Tickets for the event at the Castle Leisure Centre, Bury are available direct from the boxers or from @blackflashpromo or from the Bury Arena, they are priced at £30 outer ring and stands, £50 Ringside, £60 VIP Ringside.

Top billing at the November 6 event features two world title bouts when Patricio “Pitbull” Freire (24-2) defends his strap against Daniel Straus (23-6) and Will “Ill Will” Brooks (16-1) meets submission specialist Marcin Held (21-3) with the 155-pound belt on the line. “Bellator 145: Vengeance” on Spike will also feature a rematch pitting “Iron” Michael Chandler (13-3) against David “The Caveman” Rickels (16-3, 1 NC).

Tickets for “Bellator 145: ‘Vengeance,” which start at just $30, are on sale now on Ticketmaster.com and at the Ford Box Office at Scottrade Center. Doors for the event open at 5:00 p.m. CT local time, and the first contest takes place shortly after.

Lashley looks to avenge a 2012 split decision loss to Thompson. The unfinished business between the two giant heavyweights was originally scheduled to be settled at “Bellator 134: The British Invasion” and again at “Bellator 138: Unfinished Business,” but an injuries sustained by both men caused the fights to be rescheduled.

Thompson, a 6-foot-5 striking specialist, hails from England and has been fighting professionally since 2003. A former rugby player and bodybuilder, “The Colossus” found his true calling in MMA and has been competing around the globe ever since. Fighting some of the best heavyweights in the sport, including Kimbo Slice, Alexander Emelianenko, Don Frye, Alistair Overeem, Mariusz Pudzianowki, Bob Sapp, Dan Severn and Hidehiko Yoshida, among others, Thompson has racked up 11 wins by knockout and another seven by submission.

A 6-foot-3, former WWE superstar, Lashley started training in the grappling arts at age 12 and would go on to win several titles, including: three National Championships at Missouri Valley College, an NAIA National Championship, a CISM World Championship Silver Medal and two Armed Forces Wrestling Championships during his tenure in the U.S. Army. In addition to a professional wrestling career with stints in WWE, ECW and TNA, Lashley began his MMA career in 2008, and has built an impressive resume that includes Bellator MMA submission wins over Karl Etherington, Josh Burns and most recently, a technical knockout of Dan Charles.
