AQUA’s partnership with ONE Championship™ will ensure Asia’s biggest and most exciting MMA organization will continue to wow fans with its unique brand of sports entertainment. AQUA’s parent company has the distinction of being the No. 1 major appliances maker in the world, a position that it has held for six consecutive years. It is the perfect time for AQUA to join forces with ONE Championship™ and its huge audience, as the home appliances brand launches in Indonesia.

CEO of ONE Championship™, Victor Cui, stated, “ODYSSEY OF CHAMPIONS already has the makings of yet another phenomenal night of world class mixed martial arts action. We have some amazing partners here in Jakarta such as MNC, Haier and Kawasaki and together we will bring to local MMA fans one of the strongest cards of the year, featuring some of the most compelling matchups we’ve had thus far.”

“With everything from a world championship title fight to fast and furious flyweight competition and powerful light heavyweight contenders facing off, ONE: ODYSSEY OF CHAMPIONS is shaping up to be an absolute spectacle. Fans of mixed martial arts would not want to miss what goes down in Jakarta on 27 September!”

Narantungalag Jadambaa (10-3), a champion kickboxer from Mongolia, captured the ONE Featherweight World Championship by decision over Japanese stalwart Koji Oishi in 2014. Since then, he has returned home and tapped back into his roots, honing his craft. Fans can expect a much improved world champion in Narantungalag when he returns to face a tough test in Marat Gafurov.

Marat “Cobra” Gafurov (11-0) is undefeated as a mixed martial artist and is one of the fastest rising stars in ONE Championship. The Russian M-1 featherweight champion is unbeaten inside the ONE cage and has won four of his last five within the distance. Gafurov equips himself with a complete striking arsenal and complements it with a tenacious grappling game, having submitted seven of his 11 total opponents in the cage. He now fights for the opportunity to seize the ONE Featherweight World Championship from defending champion, Narantungalag Jadambaa.

Expect to see phenomenal featherweight action when grappling specialist Herbert “The Blaze” Burns (5-0) takes on the explosive Timofey Nastyukhin (9-1).

Burns, a three-time Brazilian National No-Gi Champion in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ), has set ONE Championship ablaze with exciting victories since making his promotional debut in December 2013. Representing the renowned Evolve Fight Team out of Singapore, Burns is an outstanding athlete who is unbeaten as a professional. An outstanding grappler, he will make sure Russian standout Timofey Nastyukhin has his hands full on fight night.

For his part, Timofey Nastyukhin has exploded onto the scene at ONE Championship, recording a pair of first round TKO wins. He will no doubt have designs on a similar outcome against the outstanding Burns. Having never seen the second round in his ten-fight career, Nastyukhin is a bonafide lightning-fast finisher who has already impressed by running through the likes of Eduard Folayang and Yusuke Kawanago.

A middleweight showdown between Leandro “Leo” Ataides (8-1) and undefeated Russian newcomer Aleksei Butorin(9-0) also awaits fans, with the Brazilian Ataides looking to record his third victory inside the ONE cage.

Having scored successive knockout wins over Brayan Rafiq and Judo practitioner Tatsuya Mizuno, Ataides fought for the ONE Middleweight World Championship in a blistering encounter with Igor Svirid. Ataides now looks to inflict a first career defeat on the record of St. Petersburg-based powerhouse Aleksei Butorin, who has run roughshod over competitors across multiple weight classes, including much larger heavyweights. Butorin’s perfect record is made even more impressive by the fact that he has finished all nine of his opponents, eight of them by knockout. With 12 knockout victories between them, expect fireworks from these heavy-handed warriors.

A light heavyweight clash between Jake Butler (5-1) and Cristiano Kaminishi (8-2) is also on the card, with New Jersey native Butler facing his most experienced opponent to date.

Butler, who avenged his sole career defeat last time out, is a former junior freestyle wrestling All-American, and has competed in US Open and Olympic qualifiers before dedicating himself full time to MMA. Since linking up with ONE, Butler has enjoyed tremendous success, and now faces a man who is also used to competing at the highest level in his chosen discipline.

A former Pan-American Jiu-Jitsu champion, as well as an Asian Cup winner, Cristiano Kaminishi fought most of his career at heavyweight before dropping to 205 pounds for his ONE Championship debut last year.

If that isn’t enough, Jakarta will also see Andrew Leone (7-2) square off against Yusup “Maestro” Saadulaev (13-4-1, 1NC) at flyweight.
Italian-American Leone is a former All-State collegiate wrestler with multiple BJJ tournament wins to his name, and is currently 2-0 inside the ONE cage. Training at the Bali Muay Thai and MMA fight team, Leone has had great success in Asian combat sports, most recently posting a career-best win over top-ranked flyweight Shinichi “BJ” Kojima. Leone looks to take another giant stride towards the uppermost echelons of the division at the expense of dangerous Dagestani submission specialist Saadulaev.

With five ONE fights already under his belt, Saadulaev is equally comfortable at both bantamweight and flyweight, with an aspiration to hold titles across both divisions. A victory over Leone will bring him a step closer to ONE Flyweight World Champion Adriano Moraes, whose sole career defeat came at the hands of the “Maestro” at ONE: WARRIOR SPIRIT.

A meeting between lightweight veterans Arnaud “The Game” Lepont (11-4) and Vincent “Magnivincent” Latoel (15-16-2) has cross-continental appeal, with Frenchman Lepont looking to out-duel Dutch-born Golden Glory representative, Latoel. The two fighters meet at ONE: ODYSSEY OF CHAMPIONS at a 68kg catchweight bout.

With his fights having never gone to the judges’ scorecards, Arnaud Lepont’s appearances inside the cage are often short-lived affairs with his most recent victory over Suasday Chau lasting only two minutes and 21 seconds. On the other hand, Vincent Latoel can account for impressive victories over Willy Ni and Eddie Ng in a combined time of just over five minutes. A 14-year veteran of professional MMA, Latoel is a viable contender in the lightweight division with 13 finishes to his name.

The ONE debut of 19-year old Tajik bantamweight Muin Gafurov (5-0) against Casey Suire (5-1) is an extremely interesting proposition, with Gafurov looking to maintain his perfect record consisting solely of first round submission finishes.

Undoubtedly an outstanding grappler, teenage prodigy Gafurov will clash with another top prospect with lethal submission skills as Louisiana’s Casey Suire looks to win his third ONE Championship bout. Having taken on highly-touted veteran Mark Streigl last time out, Suire may have the edge in experience inside the ONE cage, but Gafurov will look for a way to overcome that come fight night.

Fight fans in Jakarta will get a taste of some local flavor when Sunoto (2-1) takes on Mario Satya Wirawan (2-1).

Sunoto is an Indonesian featherweight standout and a local fight sports hero. He specializes in striking and has one of the most ferocious stand-up games in the region. One of the most talented Indonesian mixed martial artists on ONE Championship’s roster, Sunoto can lead the charge for his country as he takes on fellow Indonesian, Mario Satya Wirawan.
Mario Satya Wirawan is a former university football player who developed a passion for combat just a few years ago. Since then, he’s impressed crowds by showcasing his knack for striking. With a newfound love for MMA, Wirawan now finds himself in Asia’s largest MMA organization, ONE Championship, against Sunoto.

Finally, Pakistan’s Bashir Ahmad (3-2) will face unbeaten Australian Martin Nguyen (4-0) at featherweight, with Ahmad looking to add to wins over Thai prospects Shannon Wiratchai and Tanaphong Khunhankaew. His job will not be made easy by Nguyen, who dispatched previously undefeated Filipino stand out Rocky Batolbatol in his ONE Championship debut late last year.

With no fewer than five flawless records on the line, the stakes could not be higher for ONE’s elite athletes. Expect an intense night jammed full of hard-hitting action as ONE Championship once again prepares to electrify Jakarta on 27 September 2015.
Further bouts will be announced in the near future.

ONE: SPIRIT OF CHAMPIONS will play host to the titanic showdown, as world-renowned Muay Thai stylist and 8-time Grappler’s Quest Champion Vera looks to claim the gold against unbeaten British kickboxing convert Parry, who challenged the Filipino-American Vera after both fighters recorded recent first round knock out wins.

Brandon Vera declared, “I’m excited to have the honor of fighting for the ONE Heavyweight World Championship in the Philippines,” adding, “I am very much looking forward to fighting Mr. Parry, especially since he’s been asking for it!”

At 6’9, colossal British stand out Chi Lewis Parry has one of the most imposing frames in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) today, and a record to match. A 23-year-old native of Caguas, Puerto Rico, Jeffrey Fontanez brings the offensive arsenal and excitement that fighters from the Caribbean nation are known for, and he is always searching for the knockout. On April 30, Fontanez visited California for the first time as a pro, making quick work of Jose Hernandez and stopping him at 1:43 of the opening round at Fantasy Springs Casino Resort. It was his ninth first-round knockout. On September 18, he will look to add another victory to his impressive record as he takes on Marvin Quintero in the main event.

Born in Culiacan but now making his home in Tijuana, Marvin Quintero is a former world title challenger whose first title fight was a razor-thin split decision loss to Miguel Vazquez in 2012. Since then, the 28-year-old southpaw has won two fights by knockout over Carlos Sanchez and Cesar De la Mora, and the veteran fighter is ready to trade haymakers with Fontanez on September 18.

A three-year pro, Carlos Morales got off to a shaky start in his career in 2012, but once the calendar shifted to 2013, “The Solution” has been unstoppable as the 25-year-old won nine straight bouts, with two of them already coming in 2015. This September, he takes on a soon-to-be-announced opponent in a super featherweight bout.

Unbeaten as a professional, Colombia native Oscar Negrete has become a favorite at the Belasco Theater where he’s won his last two bouts over Luis Maldonado and Ramiro Robles. He started off 2015 with a winning decision over Fernando Fuentes at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino this past February. In 2014, Negrete secured impressive wins over Carlos Medina, Gabriel Braxton and Salvador Perez.

The 25-year-old Jose “Hollywood” Estrella is seeking a return to the win column after two recent losses, but after winning four of six before this cold stretch, it’s clear that Estrella has the talent to get back on the right track. After suffering a tough loss to Diego De La Hoya at the July edition, Estrella will seek redemption at his second LA FIGHT CLUB appearance as he takes on the undefeated Oscar Negrete at the Belasco Theater.

Making his professional debut in 2013, Los Angeles undefeated featherweight Emilio Sanchez can do it all in the ring. Sanchez won his first three bouts in 2013 via first-round knockouts and has continued to impress with 2014 victories over Jonathan Ramos and Juan Alvarado, and three impressive wins at LA FIGHT CLUB in 2015 against Luis Cosme in March, Eliezer Agosto in May, and Jose Cen Torres in July.

Juan Sandoval of San Bernardino, Calif., made his professional debut at the age of 22 in September of 2009 with a win over Victor Martinez at Club Nokia in Los Angeles. In his first fight in 2015, he suffered a tough loss against Leduan Barthelemy in April at The Hangar in Costa Mesa, Calif. He will look to turn his luck around at his first appearance at LA FIGHT CLUB.

A stellar amateur competitor, D’Mitrius Ballard won five Ringside World Championship titles, a 2012 National Golden Gloves crown and four National PAL titles and was a member of the 2012 Olympic trial team, among many other accolades. Since making his professional debut in February 2013, Ballard has proven he is a prospect to watch, accumulating nine impressive wins. In March, Ballard triumphed over Jason Zabokrtsky at the Freeman Coliseum in San Antonio, Texas, and Ballard took out Josue Ovando in June at the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia. Ballard will make his debut at LA FIGHT CLUB next month.

MIKE “YES INDEED” REED RETURNS TO THE RING SEPTEMBER 11 IN LAS VEGAS

WASHINGTON, D.C., U.S.A. – On Friday night, September 11, 2015, at The Chelsea inside The Cosmopolitan Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada, 22-year-old Top Rank light welterweight professional boxer, Mike “Yes Indeed” Reed (Washington, D.C./Waldorf, MD/pro record: 15-0-0, 8 KOs) will take on Antonio “Aztec God of War” Canas (Chicago, Illinois/pro record: 10-1-1, 4 KOs) in an 8 round bout. Reed-Canas will take place on “The MetroPCS Friday Night Knockout on truTV” non-televised undercard on Mexican Independence Day Weekend. The televised co-main event will be Jesse Hart vs. Aaron Pryor, Jr. and the main event will feature Oscar Valdez vs. Chris Avalos. The live boxing series is presented by truTV and Top Rank, and produced in association with HBO Sports.
In his previous fight on June 13, Reed defeated Puerto Rico’s Luis Joel Gonzalez (11-2-1, 6 KOs) by unanimous decision in an 8 round bout that opened the non-televised portion of the HBO “Boxing After Dark” fight card at New York City’s Theater at Madison Square Garden. In that fight, Reed walked his opponent down while displaying a varied attack of jabs and powerful body shots. Judges at ringside scored the contest for Reed 80-73, 80-72, and 80-72. The HBO Boxing fight card took place on the eve of the annual Puerto Rican Day Parade in New York City.
While his win streak has continued, Reed continues to learn and improve from his previous fights. He said, “Immediately after my last fight at the Garden in New York City, my dad asked me what I could have done better. Both of us agreed on cutting off the ring, so that’s become a main focus of this training camp. One of the first things that my dad taught me when I started boxing was how to properly cut the ring off. At this level of pro boxing, fighters know more creative ways to circle around the ring. Adjustments must be made going into this next fight.”
Reed discussed his personal and team boxing goals. “When I signed with Top Rank, it was extremely important to me that I stay busy, and that’s exactly what has happened. At this point in my career, I’ve learned a lot on the job, and I believe I am being prepared correctly for my goal of becoming a world champion. Everything that I’m doing now is to tailor myself to becoming just that. I believe every fight I’ve had taught different things, and made me the fighter that I am today. I also know that I have plenty more room to learn and grow.”
Mike discussed his next opponent, Antonio Canas. He said, “We watched some film on Antonio Canas, and he is definitely coming to make this a fight. Canas has a MMA background, and MMA fighters are typically very durable in the boxing ring. As usual, my team has a great game plan going into the fight. I will be well prepared, and I’m looking forward to being 16-0.”
Reed continued, “September 11 will be part of a huge boxing weekend in Las Vegas, and it will be my first time fighting there, so I definitely want to have a nice showing. I want everyone in attendance to see that Mike “Yes Indeed” Reed is the real deal. If everything goes as planned, there is a possibility that my next fight may be televised. Thank you Top Rank, truTV, MetroPCS, Nike Boxing and Athlete Performance Solutions, Everlast, and everyone that continues to support me and my team.”
Reed’s father, trainer, and manager, Michael “Buck” Pinson (Dream Team Boxing Gym/Clinton, MD), said, “Michael is working hard in the gym. He will be ready to go and we are looking to impress on September 11. We appreciate all of our fans that are traveling to Las Vegas to support us. Thank you to Top Rank for continuing to be a great company to fight for. ”
Tickets for Mike Reed’s fight at The Cosmopolitan Hotel in Las Vegas are on sale now and priced at $100, $85, $65, $45, and $20, plus applicable taxes and fees. Tickets can be purchased at www.cosmopolitanlasvegas.com or through Ticketmaster at (800) 745-3000 and www.ticketmaster.com. Room and ticket packages are available.

Inspired by close friends Broner and Warren, Brandon Bennett inching closer to world title shot

Washington, DC (August 25, 2015) This Friday night, August 28 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in the nation’s capital of Washington, DC, King’s Promotions will present a spectacular night of boxing that will feature some of the best talent in the United States.

In the main event, Brandon Bennett (19-1, 8 KO’s) will square off with former world title challenger Jonathan Maicelo (21-2, 12 KO’s) in a Lightweight bout scheduled for 10-rounds.

Bennett of Cincinnati, Ohio has been training hard for Maicelo, who has challenged for an interim world title.

“Training has been good. I been on weight for a few days. It’s been 2 hard months but the difficult part of training and dieting is over and I am ready to fight,” said Bennett.

When asked about Maicelo, Bennett was not concerned with his opponent, despite Maicelo having wins over Art Hovhannisyan and former world title challenger Fernando Angulo.

“He is an orthodox fighter. He likes to come in and he likes to counter punch. He may have fought for the title but I am the more experienced fighter. I have fought good guys and I get the best sparring. All of that doesn’t matter, because at the end of the day, we have to fight. ”

Bennett realizes that a win over Maicelo will push him very close to a fight for a world title and a win on Friday will give him another quality win to add to his resume.

“Hopefully in the next fight or two, I will be in position. Beating him should have me considered to be a top contender.”

If that is the case, Bennett will join gym mates and close friends, Adrien Broner and Rau’Shee Warren as the next fighter from trainer, Mike Stafford’s Cincinnati gym to fight for a world title. Bennett gets world class sparring and advice every day from Broner, a three-division world champion and Warren, a three-time U.S. Olympian and world title challenger.

The three have been inseparable for two decades

“I got into boxing at age eight. I was a football player. Rau’shee lived down the street from me and asked me to walk to the gym with him. He had already been boxing and Mike Stafford asked us to spar. He got the best of me that day but I stuck with it. Ironically, Adrien came in the next day and started boxing the very next day and Rau’shee sparred with him as well. Being around them is definitely an inspiration. I see what my friends have done and achieved and I know I will be next to have those accolades.”

A terrific undercard is taking shape that will feature some of the best prospects in the country.

In 10-round Bouts:

Phil Jackson-Benson (15-2, 14 KO’s) of Brooklyn, NY will take on Jinner Guerrero (8-5, 4 KO’s) of Sucumbios, Ecuador in a Super Middleweight bout.

2012 U.S. Olympian Jamel Herring (12-0, 7 KO’s) will fight Ariel Vasquez (12-8-2, 8 KO’s) of Managua, Nicaragua in a Lightweight bout.

Robert Easter (14-0, 11 KO’s) of Toledo, OH will take on Osumanu Akaba (32-8-1, 25 KO’s) of Accra, Ghana named in a Lightweight bout.

In 8-round bouts:

Demond Nicholson (13-1, 13 KO’s) of Laurel, MD battles Antonio Baker (8-12, 4 KO’s) of Fayetteville, NC in a Middleweight bout.

David Grayton (11-0, 8 KO’s) of Washington, DC will fight Jose Valderrama (4-10, 3 KO’s) of Arecibo, Puerto Rico in a Welterweight clash.

In 6-round bouts:

I fought very tough competition, and I knew from the beginning that’s how you get prepared for these types of fights,” said Thompson.

“I am very proud of John. He was a last minute replacement in Boxcino. He went on to win to the tournament in style by scoring a spectacular knockout over the heavily favored Brandon Adams. When the opportunity came about to fight Liam Smith for the title, John jumped all over it and said make it happen. John is a real fighter and understands when these types of opportunities come up, they are few are far between, and he jumped at the opportunity to fight for the WBO Jr. Middleweight world championship,” said Arthur Pelullo of Banner Promotions

Said Vito Mielnicki, President of GH3 Promotions, “John was the first fighter I signed at GH3 Promotions. He always has taken the tough fights as you look at his history. I feel he is by far the more dominant fighter in this fight, and he will show his talent on October 10. It won’t matter that he his going into Smith’s Backyard, John will put on a great performance.”

The bout is promoted by Frank Warren’s Queensberry Promotions, in association with Arthur Pelullo’s Banner Promotions and Vito Mielnicki’s GH3 Promotions.

The Smith – Thompson bout will join the WBO Middleweight title fight between Andy Lee and Billy Joe Saunders, as well as Terry Flanagan defending his WBO Lightweight title against Diego Magdaleno, which wil make up a championship triple-header on October 10th from Manchester, England.

FIGHTER OF THE YEAR TERENCE CRAWFORD TAKES ON NO. 2 CONTENDER DIERRY JEAN IN HOMECOMING WORLD TITLE DEFENSE

Terence Crawford
OMAHA, NEB. (August 24, 2015) — Undefeated two-division world champion and the reigning Fighter of the Year, TERENCE “Bud” CRAWFORD, Omaha’s favorite son, will make a homecoming defense of his World Boxing Organization (WBO) junior welterweight title against one-time world title challenger and current No. 2 world-rated contender, DIERRY “Dougy Style” JEAN, Saturday, October 24, at CenturyLink Center Omaha (455 North 10th St., Omaha, Neb. 68102). The championship event will be televised live on HBO World Championship Boxing, beginning at 9:30 p.m. ET/PT.

The two warriors boast a near-perfect combined record of 55-1 (38 KOs) — a winning ratio of 98% with nearly 70% of those victories coming by way of knockout.

Promoted by Top Rank®, in association with Tecate, tickets to the Crawford vs. Jean world championship event go on sale at 2:00 p.m. CT Today! Priced at $27, $52, $77 and $127, reserved seat tickets are available at the CenturyLink Center Omaha box office and all Ticketmaster outlets. To charge-by-phone call (800) 745-3000. To order online, visit ticketmaster.com.

“I will be totally prepared for whatever Dierry Jean brings to the ring,” said Crawford. “I love this big event as it is not often Omaha fans get to attend a prize fight
live on HBO.”

“I just can’t wait! I want this. I’m hungry,” said Jean. “Crawford is the HBO darling who is supposed to be the next big thing but I will hurt him. Mark my words! I will be crowned world champion on October 24th.”

“Terence is well on his way to topping his breakout year in 2014 where he won three career-best world championship victories en route to earning Fighter of the Year accolades,” said Todd duBoef, president of Top Rank. “Now that Terence is a two-division world champion he will be bringing that momentum on October 24 when he returns home to the great fans of Omaha and to HBO, defending his newly-won junior welterweight world title against the Canadian cold front known as Dierry Jean, who has iced seven of his last ten opponents.”

“This is a BIG fight for Terence. Dierry Jean is an excellent fighter and Terence knows it,” said Cameron Dunkin, Crawford’s co-manager. “Terence is very focused and is training harder than ever anticipating a very competitive fight. Believe me, Terence will be ready!”

“Dierry Jean is recognized by most observers as one of the most talented boxers to ever come out of Canada,” said Camille Estephan, Jean’s manager. “His lone loss was in his first world title challenge and he doesn’t want to miss his chance for a world title this time. Dierry wants to fulfill his potential and I believe he’s learned from his world title shot experience in January 2014. It’s great that we have a chance at redemption and October 24th will be his moment. This fight has the makings of a great battle for the fans.”

“In 2014 lightweight champion Terence Crawford emerged as a superstar earning Fighter of the Year honors,” said Peter Nelson, vice president of programming, HBO Sports. “He kicked off 2015 with a huge statement by moving up to a new division and knocking out Thomas Dulorme to remain undefeated and become a world champ at 140 pounds. Now Terence will defend his new title against Canada’s Dierry Jean who has won his last four bouts and looks to upset the champion before a partisan hometown crowd in Omaha.”

Crawford (26-0, 18 KOs), of Omaha, Neb., makes his ring debut as WBO junior welterweight world champion. The consensus Top-10 pound-for-pound fighter will be looking to build on his star-making 2014 which featured three world championship victories as well as Fighter of the Year honors from the BWAA and major media alike. Crawford, 27. captured the vacant WBO junior welterweight crown on April 18, via a devastating sixth-round knockout of once-beaten No. 2 world-rated contender Thomas Dulorme. Crawford began his career-best year on March 1, 2014, just 13 days short of the sixth anniversary of his professional debut. He captured the WBO lightweight title, dethroning defending champion Ricky Burns on Burns’ home turf of Glasgow, Scotland. Scoring a powerful and unanimous decision, Crawford put the boxing world on notice with his virtuoso performance as he pulled out all stops in dismantling Burns, rocking the defending champion throughout the fight, while switching back and forth between orthodox and southpaw stances. He followed that with a dramatic and critically-acclaimed knockout victory of undefeated former world champion and Cuban Olympic gold medalist Yuriorkis Gamboa on June 28, 2014, in a Fight of the Year nominee. It was one of the most-watched fights of the year with over 1.2 million viewers catching the live, first-time airing of the fight, according to Nielsen Media Research. He concluded 2014 on November 29 with a thorough shellacking of one-time world title challenger and No. 1 contender Ray Beltran, winning 11 of the 12 rounds. Crawford is only the second Nebraska native to be recognized as a boxing world champion. Perry “Kid” Graves, from Rock Bluff, captured the welterweight crown, knocking out Johnny Alberts in Brooklyn, in 1914, according to the Omaha World-Herald.

Jean (29-1, 20 KOs), a native of Port-au-Prince, Haiti, who now fights out of Montréal, Québec, Canada, returns to the ring riding a four-bout winning streak, with three of those victories coming by way of knockout, since suffering a 12-round decision loss to International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior welterweight world champion Lamont Peterson on January 25, 2014. Career highlights include an IBF junior welterweight title elimination victory over Cleotis Pendarvis, which led to his world title challenge of Peterson, NABF and NABA super lightweight title victories over Lanardo Tyner, Ivan Cano and Juan Rivera, and NABF lightweight title victories over Mario Perez and Daniel Ruiz. Only Tyner avoided losing by knockout. Jean, 33, is currently world-rated No. 2 by the World Boxing Council (WBC) and No. 6 by the WBO.

Q&A WITH TOP UNBEATEN HEAVYWEIGHT PROSPECT TREVOR BRYAN AS HE PREPARES TO FACE VETERAN DERRIC ROSSY THIS FRIDAY ON SHOWTIME®

LAS VEGAS (Aug. 24, 2015) – Promising up-and-coming heavyweight Trevor “The Dream” Bryan (15-0, 11 KOs) will put his unblemished record on the line when he faces his toughest opponent to date, experienced Derric Rossy (30-9, 14 KOs), in the 10-round heavyweight matchup in the main event of this Friday’s ShoBox: The New Generation tripleheader live on SHOWTIME (11 p.m. ET/PT, delayed on the West Coast).

Bryan, who is making his ShoBox debut, is looking to establish himself in the heavyweight division after a standout amateur career in which he won five national championships in just 60 bouts. Since his debut at 22 in November 2011, the 6-foot-4 heavyweight, who recently turned 26, has registered 10 of his 11 knockout victories in three rounds or less.

Here’s what Bryan had to say:

How would you say your career is going?

“My career is going great. I can’t wait for this great heavyweight fight. Rossy is a guy who is on his last leg and I’m a young fighter coming up who is trying to take the old dog out of his misery.”

What type of role did your amateur career play in preparing you as a professional?

“My amateur career played a huge role in my development as a boxer. Attending all the national tournaments and fighting against top athletes from all over the world played a big role in my professional career. I have seen all different styles of fighting. I also went to several sparring camps in my amateur career and have sparred against Wladimir Klitschko and Guillermo Jones, among other champions.”

Some people chalk up your undefeated record to the fact that you haven’t faced any tough opposition. That will change when you face battle-tested veteran Derric Rossy. How are you preparing for the toughest test of your career?

“I’ve been doing everything that is physically possible to get ready for this fight. I stay in the gym and work hard. I have a great work ethic and have a great team around me. I feel confident and know that I will come out with the victory. The hours that I have put in the gym will pay off. I am in fantastic shape, I let my hands go, I have one of the best jabs in the division. I’m ready to show the world what a wonderful fight this is going to be.”

Although you won your last fight against Stacy Frazier, you were knocked down for the first time in your career. What did you learn in that fight?

“I touched the canvas for the first time in my career. It was a great learning experience for me. We know that it only takes one punch in the heavyweight division. I went into the fight with confidence. I threw a punch and was off balance, he countered me with a great shot and it woke me up and reminded me that it only takes one punch to end a fight. I learned to not play around, but instead to set the pace and see if my opponent can hang with me in the ring. The great champions are the guys who get knocked down and are able to get back up and finish the fight.

“I feel like I am world championship material. I learned a lot in the Frazier fight and I’m going to make sure that this will never happen again.”

How did you get into boxing?

“I was originally a football and basketball player. I came from a tough area in Albany, N.Y., and I never had any guidance growing up. I owe my career to my amateur boxing coach who was the hall monitor at the middle school I was attending. From day one he looked at me and said that he saw a champion in me. Every single day from then on, he tried to get me in the gym to train. This was when I was 11 years old; I was very arrogant and didn’t understand why I should be fighting in a ring when I could instead be fighting in the streets. That’s the mentality I had.

“One day I decided to go in for a workout and it was the greatest workout I have ever had. I was so tired after that workout that I had to call my mom to have her pick me up, I was so fatigued. From then on I have been in the gym every single day, and here I am today, a product of all my hard work and perseverance. I have a dream for myself that I want to be world champion and I’m not going to stop until I get it.”

What is it like being promoted by Don King knowing his history as a promoter, especially with his success with heavyweights similar to yourself?
“Don King is the greatest promoter in the world. He is not going anywhere. He started this boxing thing and I want to be a part of that history. The first time I met him he gave me a pamphlet of all the world champions he had. From that day on I knew I wanted to be involved with him. He has told me to work hard and not expect anything to be given to me.”

Do you look at an American heavyweight like Deontay Wilder as an inspiration? What type of impact does someone like him have on you and your career?

“Deontay is definitely an inspiration for me. I knew him in 2008 when I was getting him ready for the Olympic Games and just to see him from that point to now being a world champion; it definitely gives younger heavyweights the inspiration and extra desire. It’s hard to get there, but it’s even harder to stay there. No offense to Deontay, but there’s a young heavyweight coming up that’s hungry just like him—me. We will see how long he is able to hold the title. It is great to once again see an American heavyweight back on top.”

How did sparring with veteran, former champions like Guillermo Jones help you?

“Guillermo Jones had so many different styles and different things he was able to do in the ring. He taught me that I couldn’t be one-dimensional and it was great to have that experience. I knew that for me to do my best, I must be able to do different things. He was bringing it to me and I had to harness all my strengths in order to compete with him.”

You are making your ShoBox debut, what does that mean to you?

“It’s mind-blowing. I finally have my chance. For me as the heavyweight to be the main event, it’s a dream come true. I’m ready to show people what I’m doing in my reality. I do not take this opportunity for granted, I have trained so hard and I’m ready to go.”

Your prediction?

“After I lay that big jab on him during the first three rounds, I think I should loosen him up by the fifth or sixth round. We’ll see if it goes past the sixth round.”

In an eight-rounder that will open the telecast, Samoa’s 6-foot-2, 280-pound heavyweight Natu “The Truth” Visinia (11-1, 9 KOs) of Tacoma, Wash., will face 5-foot-10, 235-pound Joey “The Tank” Dawejko (14-4-2, 7 KOs), of Philadelphia.

Barry Tompkins will call the ShoBox action from ringside with Steve Farhood and former world champion Raul Marquez serving as expert analysts. The executive producer is Gordon Hall with Richard Gaughan producing and Rick Phillips directing.

“The Knock Out King” goes Korean style Randall Bailey signs with AK Promotions Scheduled to fight Oct. 4 in South Korea

Randall_Bailey
MIAMI / SEOUL (August 24, 2015) – Three-time, two-division world champion Randall “The Knock Out King” Bailey (45-8, 38 KOs) has signed an exclusive promotional contract with South Korean-based AK Promotions, Bailey’s manager Si Stern (SHS Boxing Management) announced today.

Bailey, who fights out of Miami and is trained there by Orlando Cuellar, is scheduled to make his AK Promotions debut October 4, in the main event versus an opponent to be determined, at Seonhak Boxing Stadium in Inchon, South Korea.

“This is a very exciting opportunity for Randall,” Stern said. “I’ve had personal experiences in the Far East and one of my fighters, Sherman ‘Tank’ Williams, won a couple of titles there. (WBO China Zone and interim WBO Asia Pacific championships via a 12-round decision, June 28, 2012, vs. Chauncy Welliver in Macao, China) I’ve been to South Korea and it’s an extremely exciting place. The great career of Randall Bailey will continue. I’d like to thank promoter Andy Kim for presenting us with this tremendous opportunity.”

“I’m very happy to have signed Randall Bailey,” AK Promotions president Andy Kim commented. “I hope this helps boost the Korean boxing scene. There are US Army personnel and a lot of foreigners in Korea and I hope it interests them, too. Hopefully, Randall can get another world title shot soon and bring back a championship belt to Korea.”

Bailey has defeated a litany of top junior welterweights and welterweights during his 19-year professional career, including Mike Jones, Rocky Martinez, Carlos Gonzalez, Hector Lopez, Demetrio Ceballos, Anthony Mora, Juan Polo Perez, Frankie Figueroa, DeMarcus Corley, Harrison Cuello, and Jackson Osei Bonsu.

Bailey, 40, was the World Boxing Organization (WBO) junior welterweight champion (1999-2000), Interim World Boxing Association (WBA) junior welterweight titlist (2002) and International Boxing Federation welterweight champ (2012),

Now on a mission to win a fourth world title in his third weight class, the always dangerous and feared junior middleweight believes this signing has given him a new lease on his boxing career. He has had many problems securing fights in the past few years simply because he’s such a risky opponent for champions, contenders and top prospects alike.

“I can’t wait to go there,” Bailey (pictured on left with his head trainer Orlando Cuellar) said. “This is going to do a lot for my career. I spoke to my new promoter and he’s as excited about signing me as I am about signing with him. He told me that getting me another world title is his goal. He knows me, liked what he saw, and he’s all about doing his job as my promoter.

“I went to South Korea in 2005 with female boxer we brought there to fight. It was a nice trip, a lot of fun. Traveling to fight there won’t bother me a bit. I have a good contract, no complaints at all with what they’re giving me. I’ll go there a week before my fight to get acclimated. When I come back from a fight, I’ll only take two or three days off, and then go back in the gym because I know that I’ll be fighting every three or four months. I’m excited and ready to get there to fight.”

“The boxing center of gravity will soon shift towards South Korea when Randall Bailey makes his debut there,” Cuellar predicted. “One look at his devastating one-punch power and Koreans will fall in love with him. What Manny Pacquaio is in Macau and Roy Jones, Jr. in Russia, Randall Bailey will become in South Korea. Bailey has a great opportunity to make a big splash in South Korea. Once Korean boxing fans get a taste of Bailey, they will be hooked.”

Bailey has joined a growing stable of AK Promotions fighters, including newly signed heralded Pakistan amateur (87-16) super flyweight Muhammad “Falcon” Waseem, WBC Asian Boxing Council welterweight champion Neeraj Goyat (3-2-2), of India, and middleweight Dilbag Singh (1-0), of India.

Marcin Tybura to defend M-1 Challenge Heavyweight Title Belt vs. Ante Delija

ST. PETERSBURG, Russia (August 24, 2015) – M-1 Challenge heavyweight champion Marcin Tybura will defend his title September 20 in the rescheduled M-1 Challenge 61 main event against Ante “The Walking Trouble” Delija in Ingushetia, Russia

Tybura vs. Delija was originally scheduled to headline M-1 Challenge 61, Sept. 5 in Beijing, China, which was postponed until a date to be determined due to the 70th celebration of China’s victory over Japan at the end of World War II. Authorities prohibited major events in China from Aug. 20 through Sept. 10.

In another fight previously announced, former M-1 Global middleweight champion Magomed “The White Wolf” Sultanakhmedov (18-5-0, 12 KO/TKO, 0 SUB), of Russia, will return to action after a 4 1/2-year hiatus to fight Brazilian veteran Marcelo Brito 13-7-0, 2 KO/TKO. 5 SUB).

M-1 Challenge 61 will be streamed live from Russia in high definition on www.M1Global.TV. Viewers will be able to watch the preliminary fights and main card by logging on to register at www.M1Global.TV. The 29-year-old Tybura (12-1, 3 KO/TKO, 5 SUB) captured the coveted M-1 Challenge heavyweight title August 15, 2014, choking-out defending champion Damian Grabowski in the opening round with the M-1 Challenge 50 “Submission of the Night”.

The 6′ 3″, 250-pound Tybura (on top in picture to left), fighting out of Poland, successfully defended his title in his first defense last November in Beijing against previously undefeated Denis Smoldarev, using another choke hold in the first round at M-1 Challenge 53.

A former M-1 Challenge Grand Prix heavyweight titlist, Tybura is coming off his only professional loss this past May at M-1 Challenge 57, in which he was stopped in the third round by M-1 Challenge light heavyweight champion Stephan Puetz in their “Super Fight,” due to a severely broken nose.

Undefeated in his last five fights, Delija (14-2-0, 5 KO/TKO, 7 SUB) is a grappling specialist from Croatia, who is coached by M-1 Challenge light heavyweight contender Maro Perak.

The 6′ 5″, 250-pound Delija (standing in picture to right) won a three-round decision over veteran Konstantin Gluhov last April at M-1 Challenge 56 to earn this heavyweight title shot. Delija, 24, and Tybura have two common opponents: both defeated Gluhov – Tybura by first-round submission – Delija lost to Smoldarev by second-round submission.

Fights and fighters are subject to change. Additional bouts will soon be announced.

Fight Network will air M-1 Challenge 61 live on Cablevision’s Optimum TV, Grande Communications, Shentel Cable, Suddenlink Communications and Armstrong Cable in the U.S., as well as nationwide in Canada, Roku devices across North America, and globally in more than 30 countries throughout Europe, Africa and the Middle East.

WITNESS THE END OF AN ERA – BOXNATION LANDS RIGHTS TO SHOW FLOYD MAYWEATHER’S FINAL FIGHT PLUS GEORGE GROVES’ WBC WORLD TITLE SHOT

Pacquiao_Mayweather_150502_003a
LONDON (24 August) – Boxing superstar and the best pound-for-pound fighter on the planet Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather will end his iconic career live and exclusive on the world’s number one boxing channel BoxNation when he takes on Haitian hard-hitter Andre Berto on September 12.

The unbeaten Mayweather will hang up his gloves following the Berto clash after an illustrious 19-year career which has seen him capture world titles in five different weight divisions and be regarded as one of the very best in boxing history.

BoxNation subscribers will now get the chance to see if Mayweather can end his career on a high when he puts his WBC and WBA welterweight world titles on the line against two-time world champion Berto at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

The 31-year-old Berto has proven that he always comes to fight and against Mayweather, who is currently 48-0, he will be out to hand him his only loss as a retirement present.

The end of an era looms for Mayweather, whose prowess ranks alongside other rare sporting talents such as Michael Jordan, Diego Maradona and Muhammad Ali.

‘The Channel of Champions’ – BoxNation – will be the only place for British fans to watch the conclusion of this great chapter in sport, with Mayweather looking to match Rocky Marciano’s 49 fight undefeated record, whilst dazzling in his last outing.

“I’m ready to get back in the ring on September 12 and prove again to the whole world why I’m ‘The Best Ever’,” said Mayweather. “I always bring my A-game and this fight against Andre Berto is no exception. He’s a young, strong fighter who is hungry to take down the best. Forty-eight have tried before and on September 12, I’m going to make it 49.”

Berto, however, is ready to crash the party and upset the 38-year-old veteran.

“I’m coming to kick Floyd’s ass on September 12,” said Berto. “Best believe that I plan to bring it to Floyd and I’m not concerned about what 48 other fighters have been unable to do. Somebody is getting knocked out and it won’t be me. You don’t want to miss this.”

In the run up to the fight BoxNation will also air behind the scenes show ‘All Access’ providing a rare insight into both camps as they prepare for their date with destiny.

The stacked four-fight televised card will see a host of top bouts taking place including British star George Groves facing newly crowned WBC super-middleweight world champion Badou Jack.

It could prove third time lucky for Londoner Groves who is looking to win his first world title following two memorable matchups with rival Carl Froch.

The Hammersmith hero has it all to play for against Jack who captured the WBC belt from Anthony Dirrell in a closely fought contest in which he emerged with a 12-round majority decision.

27-year-old Groves though is ready to snatch it from him and fulfil a lifelong ambition by claiming the world title on September 12.

“I have been fortunate enough to experience some of the greatest feelings the sport can give,” said Groves. “I have challenged for world titles and I have sold out stadiums, but my true childhood dream of winning a world title is yet to be fulfilled. I get that chance on the Las Vegas Strip – the crème de la crème for any fighter on the planet. I cannot wait to achieve my goal and become world champion. Badou Jack isn’t ‘Bad’ enough to halt my dream. His WBC belt is all that is on my mind each and every waking moment. We have studied Jack – we are prepared for his strengths and ready to expose his weaknesses.”

In addition, the ever-exciting Roman Martinez will put his WBO super-featherweight title on the line against Orlando Salido, with Mexican power-puncher Jhonny Gonzalez taking on Puerto Rico’s Jonathan Oquendo.

The addition of Floyd Mayweather vs. Andre Berto adds another great card to a stunning BoxNation calendar which sees a number of top bills taking place live and exclusive on the channel.

These include super-middleweight star Frank Buglioni’s title clash with WBA champion Fedor Chudinov on September 26, Lucas Matthysse vs Viktor Postol on October 3 and a stacked Manchester card headlined by Billy Joe Saunders challenging WBO middleweight champion Andy Lee.

BROWNE WONT LET INJURY KNOCK HIM OFF TITLE COURSE

DOCTORS have confirmed that Lucas Browne sustained a broken thumb in his fight with Julius Long last week, but that isn’t going to put him off his pursuit of the WBA heavyweight crown.

The Aussie suffered the break in the first round and was forced to box one-handed until he knocked Long cold in the ninth.

Lucas is the current mandatory challenger for Ruslan Chagaev’s title and expects to get his shot either in late 2015 or early 2016.

Chagaev is currently obligated to defend against Fres Oquendo due to an earlier court case and has been warned that he will be stripped if he fails to accommodate Browne immediately afterwards.

“Well the bad news is that it was a crack in the bone,” he explained. “I broke it with the first right hand I threw. I felt it straight away.

“Luckily the doctor has said an operation isn’t necessary. I’ve got the thumb in a splint and it’s just a matter of resting it for four weeks or so and letting it heal completely.

“I was contacted by Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy at North Parramatta. I went down and used their Hyperbaric chamber which should really help me with the healing process. The swelling is going down and I’m looking forward to working on my cardio in the meantime”.
Manager Matt Clark added: “Lucas showed a lot of heart fighting on with a broken thumb. It wasn’t his best performance and we know that, but he still stopped an opponent who was determined and who showed up to fight. He told me his right hand hurt like hell every time he threw it.

“Lucas Browne is always up for a battle though. He has an incredible will to win. We are hearing that Ruslan Chagaev and Fres Oquendo are close to finalising their fight plans and that will allow us to map out the rest of our year”.

Haertel bolstered by Big Bear training camp ahead of September 5 ring return

Undefeated German super middleweight Stefan Haertel (6-0) returns to action on September 5 at the EnergieVerbund Arena in Dresden, Germany.

The former amateur star looks to continue his good run of form as he takes on Ivan Jukic (21-5, 14 KOs) on the undercard of Juergen Braehmer’s WBA World Light Heavyweight title defence against Konni Konrad.

‘’I believe my last fight was my best yet as a pro,’’ said Haertel, who recorded a unanimous points victory over Maurice Possiti in July. ‘’Possiti was a tough opponent, but the more he tried to put me under pressure, the more he played into my hands, and the more I was able to shine.’’

Ahead of his ring return, Haertel’s pre-fight preparations have received a big boost. The 27 year-old has spent three weeks in Big Bear sparring with Team Sauerland stablemate George Groves as the British fighter prepares for a WBC World title challenge against Badou Jack.

‘’This was a great experience for me,’’ said Haertel. ‘’The sparring with George was tough, but hopefully it has been beneficial for both of us. George is already in great shape, and on September 12, I believe he will become Team Sauerland’s next World Champion!’’

Having returned to Germany, Haertel has resumed training with coach Karsten Roewer and his troop of Sauerland fighters including Juergen Braehmer. Not averse to some friendly competition with the WBA World Champion, the ambitious Haertel has laid the following plan: ‘’First, I will beat Juergen in our forest runs and then I will defeat Jukic on September 5!’’

Tickets for the WBA World Light Heavyweight Championship fight between Juergen Braehmer and Konni Konrad are on sale now and available via www.tickethall.de.

Tickets on sale now for ‘Next Generation’ celebrating Sauerland’s 35th anniversary

Tickets are now on sale for ‘Next Generation’, Team Sauerland’s special anniversary event to celebrate 35 years since ‘Hall of Fame’ promoter Wilfried Sauerland staged his first show in Germany.

On September 26, exactly 35 years after Sauerland promoted the light heavyweight contest between Chisanda Mutti and Uwe Meinicke at the Cologne Sartory Hall, rising German stars Jack Culcay (20-1, 10 KOs) and Tyron Zeuge (17-0, 10 KOs) will headline an anniversary event at Berlin’s famous Max Schmeling Hall.

Culcay makes a first defence of his interim WBA World Light Middleweight title against Dennis ‘Hurricane’ Hogan (22-0-1, 7 KOs), while Zeuge faces former European champion Eduard Gutknecht (28-3-1, 11 KOs) for the WBO Intercontinental Super Middleweight title.

They will be joined by top German prospects Enrico Koelling (18-1, 6 KOs), Stefan Haertel (6-0) and Burak Sahin (7-0, 6 KOs), plus Bulgarian heavyweight sensation Kubrat Pulev (20-1, 11 KOs), who returns following his courageous world championship challenge against Wladimir Klitschko.

Tickets are on sale now and available by calling (+49) 030-44304430 or online via www.tickethall.de and www.eventim.de.

Carlos Carlson Retains WBC Latino Title Friday Night in Corona, CA

ORANGE, Calif. (Aug. 23, 2015) – In the “New Blood” main event, Carlos Carlson (19-1, 12 KOs) showed his mettle by battling through an early set back to retain his WBC Latino Bantamweight Title over the tough Pedro Melo (13-9-2, 4 KOs) in front of a sold out crowd at the Omega Products Outdoor Arena in Corona, Calif. on Friday night.

In the third round, Melo caught Carlson with a strong right hand as he was coming in. The knockdown didn’t faze Carlson, as he shook it off and continued to be the more aggressive fighter. Carlson worked off his jab to set up body punches that eventually wore down the smaller Melo.

“I just stuck with my game plan and remained confident throughout the fight,” said Carlson, who won an eight round unanimous decision with scores of 76-75 all around. “He was a bit awkward, but I was able to get inside and push him back. I’m glad I was able to defend my title.”

Heavyweight LaRon Mitchell (9-0, 9 KOs) continued his knockout-winning streak, pushing it to nine in a row with a first round demolition of Curtis Lee Tate (7-7, 6 KOs). Mitchell, fighting out of San Francisco, dropped Tate with a combination early in the round. Tate got up, but was back on the canvas courtesy of a right body shot by Mitchell. Moments later, Mitchell landed a lead left that ended Tate’s night. The knockout win came at the 1:18 mark.

“I knew I hurt him pretty bad with that body shot,” Mitchell said. “He looked deflated. I just kept the pressure on and came out with another knockout win.”

Fighting for the third time on a Thompson Boxing card for the year, featherweight Fernando Fuentes (6-6, 1 KO) of Hemet, Calif. dropped a split decision to Erik Ruiz (14-3, 6 KOs) of Oxnard Calif. One judge scored it in favor of Fuentes, 58-56, while the other judges had it for Ruiz, 58-56 and 60-54.

In a fight that featured continuous action, it was Ruiz that landed the most telling shots through a counter punching strategy that paid dividends on the scorecards. Fuentes, meanwhile, pushed straight ahead with a steady jab, which set up numerous combinations. Ruiz shook off most of what Fuentes was throwing, and consequently ended a two-fight losing skid.

Middleweight Miguel Trejo (2-0, 2 KOs) knocked out Brahmabigi Montgomery (1-1-1) in the first round after he unloaded a flurry of punches that sent Montgomery crumbling to the floor. Trejo came out aggressive from the start, and barely broke a sweat before recording the knockout at the 1:37 mark.

Lightweight Manuel Mendez (5-1-1, 2 KOs) of Indio, Calif. took care of Luis Silva (2-6, 1 KO) of Tijuana, Mex. in two rounds. Mendez, trained by Joel Diaz, dropped Silva in the first, and jumped all over him in the second. A straight right sapped the life out of Silva’s legs. The referee put a stop to the carnage at the :37 mark of the second.

Opening the “New Blood” fight card were a pair of junior welterweights from Southern California. Joseph Rios (1-0) notched his first professional win by aggressively punching Jose Mejia (1-3, 1 KO) into corners and onto the ropes. Rios, a southpaw, won a unanimous decision with scores 39-37 and 40-36 twice.

“New Blood” was presented by Thompson Boxing Promotions and sponsored by Lucas Oil, in association with Omega Products International and LATV Networks.
