LIVE FIGHTS: Before The Bell: Joshua vs Franklin Live Undercard (Hedges, Flynn & More)

JOYCE ANSWERS JOSHUA CALL

JOE JOYCE HAS welcomed the development of former GB teammate Anthony Joshua mentioning his name as a potential future opponent, once his return fight against Jermaine Franklin has been settled on Saturday night.

Joyce, of course, also has big business of his own to negotiate in the shape of Chinese giant Zhilei ‘Big Bang’ Zhang at the Copper Box Arena on April 15.

Then we could be in for a battle of the Olympic titans.

MEDIA ACCREDITATION: Fill out this form to apply to cover Joyce vs Zhang.

“Joe Joyce interests me the most,” said Joshua during his media activities ahead of his return to the ring this weekend.

“I like the Joe Joyce fight, it’s one that interests the people and Joe Joyce is from the same country as me, so it makes sense.”

Fighting the Big Juggernaut would also offer Joshua a route back towards world title contention, with Joyce holding the WBO Interim world championship, which puts him firmly in line for a direct shot at the full champion.

“It’s good that Joshua’s finally mentioning my name now,” commented Joyce to the Sun.

“I thought he might have thrown his phone in the Hudson river after he lost in New York and stopped replying to my messages.

“I have a proper fight in two weeks against someone that he didn’t want that smoke with and backed away from – a fellow 6ft 6in Olympic silver winner. He’s fighting someone without that pedigree, who again looks about a foot shorter than him.

“ I saw AJ and Eddie (Hearn) promise that the winner of Franklin and Whyte last November was going to get this AJ fight and they’ve gone with the geezer who lost!

“But if we both come through I would love that fight in the summer. Two of the best in the UK going at it. The winner fights Tyson Fury! But I’m just not sure he really wants it. It’s an easy fight to make – my management and his management know each other well; and I would imagine Frank and Eddie and BT/DAZN would combine on it no problem. British boxing needs these kind of fights – no more messing around.

“So I’m up for it, no problem, but I expect them to find an excuse. And will probably back out when it actually comes time to sign the contract. I don’t think that AJ wants a tough opponent like me next.

“He may talk about tough fights against me and Fury, but he’ll probably want to fight someone he’s already beaten like Dillian Whyte. I think he feels the need to rebuild his confidence before he gets Juggernauted.”

Tickets for the Copper Box clash between heavyweight giants Joe Joyce and Zhilei Zhang on Saturday, 15 April are available from ticketmaster.co.uk

MATCHROOM BOXING BOLSTER STABLE WITH THREE NEW SIGNINGS

Matchroom Boxing has further strengthened its growing stable with three new signings: Sheffield’s undefeated IBF Flyweight World Champion Sunny Edwards, Chorley’s Super-Lightweight World Title challenger Jack Catterall and Watford Super-Flyweight prospect Shannon Ryan.

Edwards (19-0, 4 KOs) is determined to unify the Flyweight division before moving on to achieve his goal of becoming a multi-weight World Champion, and the gifted 27-year-old now finds himself in the perfect place for a unification clash with Mexico’s big punching WBC 112lbs ruler Julio Cesar Martinez – a former opponent of his brother Charlie.

Catterall (26-1, 13 KOs) is determined to make up for lost time and challenge for gold at 140lbs once again following his hugely controversial loss to former undisputed Super-Lightweight World Champion Josh Taylor back in February 2022. ‘El Gato’ is itching to get back in the ring to work his way towards World Titles in the competitive 140lbs division.

Ryan (4-0) is managed by two-time unified Heavyweight World Champion Anthony’s Joshua’s 258, and the former O2 employee has made a perfect start to life in the paid ranks since making her professional debut at Wembley Arena last March, winning all four of her contests in impressive fashion as she looks to become the latest face of women’s boxing.

“I’m extremely excited at this stage of my career to be partnering up with Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Boxing,” said Edwards. “Eddie has always been one of the most influential men on the boxing circuit since I’ve been involved in the sport and the conversations were simple, we both want to deliver the biggest fights possible every time.

“I’m hoping to be out June/July time. I’d originally hoped I’d have been out a little bit earlier in this year, but a rest after a few busy years boxing has done me good. I’m not content defending World Titles, I need more.

“First I want to unify whilst collecting the Ring Magazine Title. It has always been a big dream of mine to hold arguably the biggest prize in boxing today. It seems as if Martinez is the man for that, but at this point it’s whoever comes first. I’m looking forward to the challenges ahead whatever they may be, bring me the fighter they tell me I can’t beat – and repeat.”

“I’m excited for the next phase of my career,” said Catterall. “Teaming up with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing and DAZN is a massive step in the right direction for me. There are going to be some huge nights in the future and I’m excited to get the ball rolling and to be involved in some career-defining fights over the next couple of years. I have been working tremendously hard in the gym and I will be ready for any opportunity that presents itself. I’m grateful to be in this position and I’m looking forward to kicking off a successful relationship with Matchroom and DAZN.”

“I’m very excited to start this next chapter of my career under the Matchroom Boxing promotional banner,” said Ryan. “I look forward to being able to showcase my skills on the big stage and to millions of people around the world on DAZN. Being in those big fights and collecting those World Titles is why I am in this sport and with the backing of my team, 258 Management, O2 and Matchroom Boxing I’m confident that I can fulfil my potential.”

“I’m delighted to further strengthen Matchroom’s growing global of unrivalled talent with three exciting new additions ahead of a huge night of boxing tomorrow at The O2,” said Matchroom Sport Chairman Eddie Hearn. “IBF Flyweight World Champion Sunny Edwards is one of the most naturally gifted boxers we have produced in the UK and I’m incredibly excited to finally get the opportunity to work with him and give him the opportunities to unify the Flyweight division. Sunny can certainly talk the talk and he can definitely walk the walk and a fight against WBC ruler Julio Cesar Martinez or Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodriguez is a must for 2023.

“Jack Catterall is another signing that we are massively excited about, and he should arguably be the reigning undisputed Super-Lightweight World Champion following his brilliant performance against  Josh Taylor in February 2022. Jack is itching to get back into the ring following a layoff that was out of his control and there are some big fights to make for him in the competitive 140lbs division.

“Women’s boxing is truly thriving at the moment with some monster fights on the horizon including our historic Katie Taylor vs. Chantelle Cameron homecoming event in Dublin on May 20, and another fighter that has a bright future to look forward to is Watford Super-Flyweight talent Shannon Ryan. We have the best roster of female talent in world boxing and Shannon is now in the perfect place to develop and grow into the latest star.”

MICHAEL “LONE WOLF” MAGNESI AND AYRTON GIMENEZ VYE FOR VACANT WBC SILVER TITLE

Rome, Italy (March 31, 2023) – Major WBC super featherweight world rating implications are on the line as #11 WBC world rated and former IBO World Champion, MICHAEL “LONE WOLF” MAGNESI (Lazio, Italy 21-1 13KO’s) vies for the vacant WBC Silver Super Featherweight Championship against unbeaten foe and #22 WBC world rated, AYRTON GIMENEZ (Buenos Aires, Argentina, 17-0 3KO’s) in a 10 round championship bout tonight in Rome, Italy.

Magnesi, who is co-promoted by Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing and DiBella Entertainment, returns to the ring tonight, reinvigorated under the new training guidance of Gesumino Aglioti. A victory over the unbeaten Argentinian, Ayrton Gimenez, will establish Magnesi well inside the top 10 of the WBC World ratings in shouting distance of challenging for the WBC World Super Featherweight Championship.

Gimenez makes the trip to Italy with goals of his own. A former WBA Fedebol Super Featherweight Champion, with an impressive record, Gimenez believes in his abilities to defeat Magnesi, and step over him in the WBC ratings.

GAMEBRED BOXING 4: ROY JONES JR. VS. ANTHONY PETTIS FINAL PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES

MILWAUKEE – March 31, 2023 – Boxing Hall of Famer Roy Jones Jr. and former UFC and WEC World Champion Anthony Pettis went face to face Thursday at the final press conference before they square off in cruiserweight action this Saturday, April 1 headlining “Gamebred Boxing 4” live on pay-per-view from Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, presented by Jorge Masvidal’s Gamebred Boxing.

The press conference also featured fighters on three of Saturday’s pay-per-view undercard attractions before they step into the ring for pay-per-view action beginning at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT.

Previewing their respective showdowns were former UFC and Cage Rage World Light Heavyweight Champion Vitor “The Phenom” Belfort and fellow Brazilian and former Strikeforce middleweight champion Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza, who meet in a six-round heavyweight battle, all-time great UFC Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo and former MMA foe and top UFC contender Jeremy Stephens, who battle in a six-round welterweight affair, and former UFC contender Pearl Gonzalez and mixed martial artist turned social media star Gina Mazany, who battle in a six-round featherweight showdown.

The pay-per-view telecast will also feature Milwaukee’s own undefeated former NABF Champion and rising contender Luis Feliciano taking on durable veteran Clarence Booth in an eight-round super lightweight bout, and Florida’s undefeated Devin Cushing facing Argentine veteran Damian David Marchiano in a six-round super featherweight tussle. Kicking off the pay-per-view will be a six-round heavyweight battle between MMA and Bareknuckle fighter Dillon “Bad Boy” Cleckler and Bellator MMA and fellow bareknuckle competitor Josh “The Hammer” Burns.

The pay-per-view can be purchased through InDEMAND, PPV.com and UFC Fight Pass PPV, with tickets to the live event available through FiservForum.com and Ticketmaster.com. Additional event details will be announced shortly.

Here is what the fighters had to say Thursday from Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee:

ROY JONES JR.

“It’s fun to still be able to do what I love doing. I’m looking forward to an awesome event come Saturday night.

“I challenged myself to make the 200-pound weight for this fight. You don’t want to be the guy who can’t set an example. I’ve always wanted to set a good example.

“Masvidal is promoting a fight this week and fighting next week, and there’s nobody else doing anything like that. That’s what really got my attention.

“The problem with boxing is that everyone is scared to lose. If you don’t fight the best opponent out there, then you’re just wasting time. If you want to be the best, you have to go take the test.

“I just love to fight. To be in here with an amazing group of athletes and people, I feel like I’m in heaven.

“If I show that at 54-years-old, that I can dedicate myself to a training camp and get back down to weight, that’s going to say a lot for the fighters I train. They can’t give me any more excuses.”

ANTHONY PETTIS

“It feels good to be back in Milwaukee. Last time I was here I won the UFC world title 10 years ago. To be back now fighting a legend like Roy Jones Jr. is a blessing.

“This is amazing timing to be back here fighting. It’s great to see the growth of this city and this arena. When I was fighting last time it wasn’t like this, so it’s really cool to be performing in my city.

“When I came up in this city there weren’t a lot of names coming up from here. Now we’re paving the way and we’ve made this city a hub for combat sports. It’s cool to be able to put the spotlight on them.

“I’m excited to be back in Milwaukee to perform in front of my family, friends and people who have supported me throughout my career.

“I can’t wait to fight one of the greatest of all time in boxing. This is a dream come true. The fight gods have blessed me with this one.

“Milwaukee, thank you for hosting us, I hope that everyone comes out for a great night of boxing.”

VITOR BELFORT

“This is my first time fighting on my birthday and I’m fighting a tremendous legendary fighter from Brazil. I have a lot of respect for Souza, so we trained very hard.

“My kids have really pushed me to become the best athlete in the house. We have a lot of competition in the house and it’s a privilege to be an example for them.

“I’m joyful and grateful to be here. You’re judged by the people you’ve fought. That’s what makes a fighter unique, because he can judge himself by competing against the best. It’s a privilege and a joy.”

RONALDO SOUZA

“I’m very grateful to be here. I had a very hard camp for this fight. I’m 100 percent ready for this and I’m excited to show everyone that I can box too.

“This is a great event and I’m very excited. I’m going to get in the ring and fight to win. That’s my only goal.”

JOSE ALDO

“For me it’s a pleasure to be here. This is gonna be a great fight and I’m ready. I hope everyone tunes in and enjoys this show Saturday. It’s going to be a great night.

“Since I’ve been at this weight class I’ve been training in boxing a lot for the last few years. I’m prepared for anything that happens in the ring.

“I’m very happy to be here. I’m 100 percent confident that on Saturday night I’m going to give everyone watching a great show.”

JEREMY STEPHENS

“I’m very thankful for this opportunity. This is a tremendous platform and a great opportunity. You all know who I am and what I do, so everyone should just tune in and enjoy the show.

“The fight gods have blessed us. It’s an honor to be up here with so many legends. This is a tremendous opportunity. I feel like I’m in a dream. This is the best place in the world to be right now.

“I’ve lost a lot in my career, but you’ll never learn from a win the way that you learn from a loss. The losses are brutal. But that’s what fighting is about. Picking yourself back up off the floor.

“I feel really good at this weight. I feel more fluid and I’m not holding onto as much tension. I can truly be my best self. I could make weight right now.

“I’m shutting out the emotions and sticking to my intentions. I’m here to do what I love.”

PEARL GONZALEZ

“I’m honored to be here and to be sitting next to all of these legends. I’ve dreamed of this my whole life.

Boxing has been quite a journey for me. I’ve been on this journey for a couple of years. I’ve really been working on my boxing skills and working to become a great striker. I’m so excited to show everyone on Saturday night.

“I’m cutting weight so I can’t eat sweets, so I figured I might as well wear it. So my Aunts made me this beautiful outfit out of Fruit Roll-Ups. The hard part is done. I train hard every single day, so these are the little things I can do to lighten up the mood while I cut weight.

“I can promise one thing, I will not be taking a step backwards. I will bring this fight to Gina for every second of every round.

“I’m so honored to be here. I’m so close to my city of Chicago and I’m gonna have a big crowd of family here.

“This is an invigorating opportunity. To be here on a big stage and a new sport is a great new challenge.

“We’re gonna go toe-to-toe and find out who’s gonna be the last woman standing. I’m not backing up. We’ll see who hits harder on Saturday night.”

GINA MAZANY

“I’m grateful to be able to do what I love. I’ve worked really hard and put a lot of time into this. I’ve been fighting for over 15 years and I’m really excited for this show. It’s gonna be good.

“I’m really excited and blessed to be here. I can’t wait for my dog to come out on Saturday night.

“There’s nothing I love to do more than fight. I love to scrap. I’m so grateful for this opportunity and I can’t wait to go toe-to-toe with Pearl.”

VIDEO: Devin Haney vs Vasiliy Lomachenko | KICKOFF PRESS CONFERENCE

Haney vs. Loma: Lightweight Legends Go Face to Face at Opening Press Conference for May 20 Super Fight

LOS ANGELES (March 30, 2023) — The undisputed lightweight king, Devin “The Dream” Haney, is ready for the pay-per-view spotlight. Haney will defend all the belts against former three-weight world champion and pound-for-pound king Vasiliy “Loma” Lomachenko on Saturday, May 20, at MGM Grand Garden in Arena in Las Vegas.

The two met face-to-face for the first time Thursday in Los Angeles at the official kickoff press conference. Haney (29-0, 15 KOs) will make his second defense as undisputed champion after a pair of victories over George Kambosos Jr. in Australia last year. Lomachenko (17-2, 11 KOs) has won three straight bouts since losing his lightweight titles to Teofimo Lopez in 2020.

Haney vs. Lomachenko will stream live on Top Rank on ESPN+ PPV, the exclusive digital distributor for the event in the United States, beginning at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT. The PPV will be priced at $59.99 and additionally be available via cable and satellite pay-per-view providers.

At the press conference, this is what the fighters and Top Rank chairman Bob Arum had to say.

Bob Arum

“I’ve seen hundreds of great matches over the years. But when I see a match like this, it stirs my blood because it is such an interesting fight to watch. Anyone who considers themself even remotely a boxing fan has to be attracted to this fight. It has all the elements of the great fights of the past. These are two top fighters who have all the skills and determination to make it a great battle. Saturday night on May 20 at the MGM Grand, I’m looking forward to one of the historic fights in the sport of boxing.”

Devin Haney

“I’m blessed to be here. It’s something that I’ve always dreamed of. I’ve been wanting this fight since 2019. I’ve been begging for it and calling for it. The time has finally come. The tables have turned this time around. When he had the belts, he didn’t want to fight me. But it’s a fight where I truly believe I am the better fighter. I’m the better competitor. I will be victorious. I’m happy that the time has finally come.”

“This is a legacy fight for me. Loma at one time was No.1 pound-for-pound. A few months ago, he was higher than me on the pound-for-pound list. Now that the fight has been made, he has dropped off the pound-for-pound list. But it is what it is. We know what type of fighter he is. He deserves to be on the pound-for-pound list. Not above me, but definitely on the list. But this is a legacy fight. This is a real fight. This is not an influencer fight. This is really for the belts. This is for the gold. This is possibly to determine the best in the world as well.”

“The better the opposition, the better I am. Loma is a good fighter. But I’m on a totally different level. On fight night, the world will see that. The world will see how good Devin Haney really is.”

Vasiliy Lomachenko

“I’m excited for May 20. This is my second chance, and I will try my best. Thank you to Team Haney for the opportunity. We are all prepared for this.”

“You can’t think about your future when there’s a war coming to your house. You just think about life and about your family and about the people around you. You think about how you can live another day. You can’t think about your job. You can’t think about a professional sport.”

“We never know what will happen. We can prepare for one strategy, but in the ring it can all change. Right now, I don’t know. I just train hard and prepare. I believe in God and in my team.”

Promoted by Top Rank, in association with Devin Haney Promotions and DiBella Entertainment, tickets starting at $104, plus applicable service charges, go on sale Friday, March 31 at 10 a.m. PT and will be available to purchase at axs.com.

“I feel great. They say that the third time’s a charm. The first time was great. The second time wasn’t all that great. But I feel great about this trip.”

“I’m always hopeful. If I say I’m going to do something, I’m always going to show up. I thank God for giving me that mental fortitude. That’s why everything that has transpired in my boxing career has happened.”

“I have a second chance now. I know that Robeisy is tough. He is a good fighter. But I know that we will come out with the victory on April 1.”

Joet Gonzalez

“I’m always in the gym working really hard. Unfortunately, I didn’t get the win that night against Isaac Dogboe. The judges believed that Isaac won it. Now he’s in his position, and I’m in my position.”

“I expect another tough fight. I think people know the type of fighter I am. I’m here to fight the elite fighters. I’m here to be in tough fights.”

“I have three losses now. I’m 29. I need this victory because I still have a lot to prove.”

Jose Enrique Vivas

“I’m not scared of anyone. I know that he has Mexican blood like I do. When there are two Mexicans in the ring, it’s guaranteed to be a war. It will be a great show, and I will win.”

“For this camp, I was in Mexico for six weeks. Then, I spent four weeks with Manny Robles and Edgar Jasso. I feel like I have gotten a lot better. I feel better than ever. I’ve been working with them for years, so I feel great.”

Jahi Tucker

“I’ve been in this game for about three years now. I’m seasoned. I’m taking my steps to be the best fighter in the world. Slowly but surely, we are going to keep climbing. Niko, you got to be on the journey. You got to take this ‘L’ from me.”

Nikoloz Sekhniashvili

“I respect every fighter. And, of course, Jahi is a very good fighter. But I’m not going to give him a chance. I believing in showing, not telling. And I’m going to show everyone on Saturday.”

Emiliano Fernando Vargas

“It’s great to have the opportunity to step in there and showcase my skills. I’m blessed to do it with Top Rank. I’m ready to show the world that the legacy does continue, and I’m writing my story in the meantime. I’m excited. I’m ready. Another performance is coming.”

Jeremiah Milton

“It’s good to back home. It’s good to be back in my city Tulsa, Oklahoma. It’s been about eight months since I’ve been back home. Now I’m 8-0 and making my way up this ladder. I’m still pushing for my dream every day. It’s a special time, and I’m going to have my people here supporting me.”

KALLE SAUERLAND EYES BIG DOMESTIC FIGHTS FOR HARLEM EUBANK

Kalle Sauerland says Harlem Eubank will be given the chance to prove his credentials as one of the “hot prospects” of British boxing, this year.

The unbeaten super lightweight makes his highly anticipated return to the ring at York Hall on Friday, live and free-to-air on Channel 5 from 10pm.

Eubank headlines the Wasserman Boxing show, in association with LadbrokesNuman and Infinitum Entertainment, and plans on making a statement in front of a huge TV audience.

Sauerland has promised that the 16-0 Eubank will be moved through the levels throughout the year and would love to match the Brighton man with Newcastle’s world-ranked Lewis Ritson next.

British fight fans are also excited about the prospect of a title showdown with Dalton Smith, and Sauerland believes 2023 will be a breakthrough year for Eubank.

Head of Wasserman Boxing Global, Kalle Sauerland said: “We want to present new challenges for Harlem this year.

“Harlem is on the best possible platform for a young guy to be built on, live on Channel 5.  He will have eyeballs on him, which brings extra pressure, but it will help in very big fights.

“Harlem has a tough fight in front of him on Friday night and he will be facing different types of opponents this year.  People are projecting that Harlem Eubank is one of the hot prospects of British boxing, but he’s got to go through that fire in the ring.  The good thing for Harlem is he’s doing it in front of millions of people.”

Sauerland added: “I’d love to make Lewis Ritson next; I think that’s a great fight.

“Dalton Smith is a talked about talent, like Harlem, and if that is ordered, we won’t shy away from it.  But as a promoter I think we need to build both guys a bit more, for them to maximise that fight.”

EUBANK RETURNS ON FRIDAY, 10PM LIVE AND FREE ON CHANNEL 5

CEREMONIAL WEIGH-IN – THURSDAY MARCH 30

Location: Town Hall Hotel, 8 Patriot Square, London E2 9NF

Time: 5:30pm arrival for a 6pm start

HARLEM EUBANK FACES LATE CHANGE OF OPPONENT AT YORK HALL

Harlem Eubank faces a late change of opponent in the headline slot at York Hall tomorrow night after illness ruled Christian Uruzquieta out of action.

The Mexican fighter arrived in London earlier this week but began feeling unwell and, today, has been deemed unfit to fight on Friday evening.

Stepping into the breach to face 16-0 Eubank, is Argentinean Miguel Antin who is seasoned, well-travelled and holds no fear about fighting away from home.

Eubank tops a bumper Wasserman Boxing card at the spiritual home of British boxing, in association with Ladbrokes, Numan and Infinitum Entertainment, with heavyweight bulldozer ‘Magic’ Matty Harris and German stars Abass Baraou and Sophie Alisch part of an exciting undercard.

Wasserman Head of Global Boxing, Kalle Sauerland says Eubank is one of the “hot prospects” of British boxing, but the 29-year-old must first deal with ‘El Gato’, the hugely experienced late substitute.

The unbeaten Harlem Eubank said: “Friday night’s opponent may have changed, but my mission remains the same: put on a performance and make a statement in front of a huge TV audience on Channel 5.

“Antin is coming in at short notice, he has nothing to lose and that makes him extremely dangerous.

“But the way I’m feeling, and the way I’ve been training, I plan on dispatching him in good fashion to set up a massive 2023.

“Like the British fight fans, I am excited about the potential match-ups that are out there for me. They will happen and I am looking forward to them but, first, my focus is on Antin.”

Also part of a big punching show at York Hall, Harry Scarff takes on Jordan Dujon in a tasty looking domestic tear-up at super welterweight.

The exciting Jesse Brandon, a British prospect to keep an eye on, has his second professional contest on the York Hall show and former amateur star Codie Smith makes his paid debut.

Eubank vs Antin, is live and free-to-air on Channel 5, at 10pm on Friday.

“This is a throwback fight between Guerra and Perez. These are two fighters who are willing to risk their undefeated records in a cross-town rivalry bout. I commend them for taking the fight. These are the types of fights that generate a lot of interest in the boxing community and this should be a barnburner when they collide on April 8th,” said promoter Bobby Hitz.

JOSHUA VS. FRANKLIN UNDERCARD PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES

Fabio Wardley:

“I’m really buzzing to get back to The O2. It has turned into my home away from home. I’ve boxed there I don’t know how many times now, five or six. I’ve said loads of times, there’s nothing that really beats at packed out O2 Arena. That atmosphere, that buzz, is something I live for and I thrive off. When I’m in the thick of it in a fight and the crown is going nuts, it is one of those special moments that you don’t get in any other arena. Saturday night is going to be the same. There’s one thing that I do and that’s entertain the fans, however it comes, maybe to the concern of my team and stuff. I get myself in some sticky situations but I live for those moments, that buzz and that thrill of the fight. Just really getting stuck in is everything that I’m about. It has been a crazy journey starting at white collar at a show that has maybe 200 people in to now at The O2 that’s got 17,000 people in. It has been a wild ride but I’m thankful for every day and I’m thankful for the opportunity. I’ve boxed as chief support on some big cards in the past but nothing beats an AJ card and nothing beats a packed out O2 Arena. Those two things are going to bring out the best in me. It is going to be a great performance again on Saturday.”

Michael Polite-Coffie:

“This is a fight that I was actually talking about a lot before the call even came. I guess it just manifested itself. To me, the only thing I’m seeing is the W. I know it is going to be a good fight. I expect it to be action packed and difficult but I’m ready to weather the storm.”

Galal Yafai:

“I’m not going to lie, as you probably already know, I wasn’t looking forward to going over to San Antonio. I like fighting in the UK. I don’t get to fight here often. I fought at The O2 on my debut, hopefully it’s a same kind of night. They’re all tough fights, as you saw in my last fight. I got a bit of stick in that fight. I had my issues but I get to prove those people wrong who don’t think that I’m that good anymore. We’ll see on Saturday night and the foreseeable future. The criticism doesn’t bother me. I’m not going to lie, I’d rather have people criticise me than people up my ass. I’ve had that for the last year or two after the Olympics. We’ll see what happens in the future and we’ll see how good I can be.”

Austin Williams:

“First I want to give all of the thanks and glory to god because I feel like he always moves things around for me in an amazing way. I was just supposed to be on this show doing commentary and the hard work that I consistently put in had me ready to fight, and to fight an actually good opponent. That’s what I always want to do, that’s what I aim for. I aim to fight guys who I know are going to come with their A game, especially when fighting me because they feel like they can take a lot from me. I’ve learnt to just use that as fuel. I’ve learnt to use that as my advantage because I can never slip-up, I can never take a day off, I can never get comfortable. I’m not only thankful for Eddie Hearn and Matchroom, I’m thankful for fighters like River who are willing to take fights on short notice against somebody like me. He has a lot to gain, I have a lot to lose. I need him just as much as he needs me. I definitely love experiences like this because River has a lot of advantages that people don’t mention. I’m coming to his hometown. I’m coming somewhere where he’s familiar. I’m coming here as an American and I have to win to decisively, I have to put on the best performance.”

River Wilson-Bent:

“It’s a brilliant opportunity. I’m very grateful to Eddie and Matchroom. I boxed three weeks ago on Saturday. I was chilling at home on Sunday, got the phone call asking if I wanted to box at The O2 on the AJ undercard against Ammo Williams, and obviously I was in. I’m always ready, I’m always fit to be in these fights. It’s a great opportunity.”

Campbell Hatton:

“It’s basically an instant turnaround which is exactly what we want. I think we’re showing those improvements every time, we’re on the eight rounders and it is going to bring the best out of me. I think I’ll be much better over long fights because all my mistakes happen when I rush things. Having the extra few rounds is just going to benefit me. I think we’re going to see the best performance yet this weekend. The way that I was boxing early on it was clear that I was just too eager to please and I was just trying to go 100mph with everything. Last time out I showed that I am thinking about going up and down the gears. It’s going to be the same again this weekend. I’ll look to show a calculated performance.”

Louis Fielding:

“I just want to thank Eddie and everyone at Matchroom for the opportunity. It’s a massive stage to be on so I’m really privileged to be a part of it, and obviously fighting the likes of Campbell Hatton, we know who he is because of his dad, it’s a big name. I’m happy to be here. I’ve been training hard and it is a massive opportunity for me to kickstart my career on and get a good win under my belt. If there’s no risk there’s no reward. Campbell is a good kid and he’s got good people around him, but me beating Campbell Hatton propels me onto bigger things.”

John Hedges:

“Obviously this is my fourth fight at The O2 now and it’s only my eighth fight so I’ve been very privileged to have these opportunities. Thanks to Eddie Hearn and the Matchroom banner. I want to start stepping it up now. I’ve got a good opponent with a decent record in Daniel Bocianski. I’m looking to do the job in style. I’ve had a great camp and I’m ready to go now. I’m putting the weight on and it’s gradually. It’s obviously my maturity, I’m 20 years of age and I’m on my eighth fight so I’m doing something right. It’s just about taking the right fights at the right time and progressing nicely. We’re on the eight-rounders and then we’ll get our eyes on some titles.”

Jordan Flynn:

“First of all I just want to say a big thank you for the opportunity to Eddie, my management 258. It’s a great opportunity on the big stage. I feel like I deserve to be here, this is where I should be. It’s a good opponent. It’s definitely a step up, and it’s a step up that I’m ready for. I feel like the better opponent I face, the better I’m going to fight, and you’re going to see that on Saturday night.”

Kane Baker:

“I’m blessed to be here, I really am. It’s a massive privilege. Something I thought that I would never get to do is fight on an AJ undercard, so I’m ticking off some boxes. Massive thank you to Eddie and everyone at Matchroom. I’ll turn up on Saturday and I’ll be throwing leather all night, don’t worry about that.”

Juergen Uldedaj:

“Hello everybody. I’m happy to be here and i’m excited for this opportunity that has been given to me. It is a pleasure to be part of this big platform. I’m looking forward to Saturday night. It is always a pleasure to be around AJ and I’m excited for his comeback fight as well. I hope that Eddie will be impressed with my performance and send me a contract because I’m ready for the big fights.”

Ziyad Almaayouf:

“First, I just want to thank Prince Khalid and Skill Challenge Promotions, Matchroom and 258 for this amazing opportunity. The shoulders that you see on me right now carry the weight of so many, and the lightest of them is mine. I’m here to represent, and this is what I love to do. What happened in my last fight, maybe is not what many wanted, but it was what was written. I’m always ready to adapt to what is written. Nothing is going to change this fight. It is a new opportunity. I am the first Saudi to fight at The O2. The first Arab to fight at The O2. To many these are just small milestones but I didn’t even think I’d be the first to fight at my own local arena back home. I’m here now and I can’t stop smiling. I hardly believed it when Eddie Hearn said my name just then. I’m here for a good show. Every fight for me, I like to put the pressure on myself. The pressure is something that I welcome because it is such heavy pressure during camp when you are putting that work in. On fight night, when I am representing that big pressure of my country Saudi Arabia, that huge pressure of the Arab world, that pressure turns into a parachute and it turns into my cape. I put that cape on on fight night and this is what I use to fly. There is nothing more than I like to do than to put on a show and possibly even deliver that knockout blow.”

Peter Kadiru:

“It was a long camp, a hard camp. I’m really grateful for this opportunity here. I want to thank 258, I want to thank Matchroom Boxing and my brother Derek Chisora. I’m looking forward to the fight and I’m ready to go. It was my first time being in a camp outside of Germany. It was a whole new experience for me and I learnt a lot in Dallas. I’m ready to show this on Saturday.”
