‘KING’ CALLUM WALSH IMPROVES TO 6-0 WITH HUGE SECOND ROUND STOPPAGE ON ST. PATRICK’S EVE IN BOSTON!

Boston, MA (March 17, 2023) On Thursday night in front of a huge crowd filled with celebrities from the sporting world, Fast Rising Irish Star‘King’ Callum Walsh, (6-0, 5 KOs), of Cork, Ireland stopped veteran Wesley Tucker, (15-5, 9 KOs), in the second round at the Agganis Arena in Boston, MA and broadcast live internationally on UFC FIGHT PASS. The event was promoted by Tom Loeffler’s 360 Promotions.

Among those seated ringside for Walsh’s first fight in front of the Boston boxing fans on the Eve of St. Patrick’s Day were UFC President Dana White, UFC Legend Georges St. Pierre, Las Vegas Raiders All-Pro Defensive End Maxx Crosby, New England Boxing Legend Micky Ward, Two-Time Super Bowl Champion (New England Patriots) Tully Banta-Cain, former heavyweight contender Kevin McBride, former welterweight contender Dicky Eklund and UFC Hall of Famer Matt Serra.

With Hall of Fame trainer and Boston native Freddie Roach in his corner, Walsh easily won the first round as the southpaw super welterweight fought smartly behind his range finding jab combined with his tight defense. Using his power to overwhelm Tucker in the second stanza, the 22-year-old Walsh used his full arsenal to score three knockdowns with the bout being called to a halt at 2:59 of the round. The super welterweight bout was scheduled for ten rounds.

Said an elated Walsh to a thundering ovation, “Boston I will be back. It doesn’t matter who is across the ring, I can adapt to anything. Freddie said to put the pressure on and work the body and that’s what I did.”

“I’d like to thank every single person who came out tonight, thank you to my family and friends who are here from Ireland.”

Fighting in the middleweight division, Frank ‘The Tank’ Hogan, (14-0, 13 KOs), of Weymouth, MA stopped Jimmie Williams, (18-11-2, 6 KOs), of New Haven, CT. Hogan proved to be too strong over the first five rounds as Williams’ corner stopped the fight with the popular Irishman staying undefeated.

CANELO VS. RYDER – SAN DIEGO PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES

Canelo Alvarez
“The press conference in Guadalajara was an unbelievable moment for me because I saw my grandma, my dad, my mom, my brothers, my family there. A lot of media guys I saw when I started boxing. For me, I feel very proud and happy to bring this fight to Guadalajara and give the people some of the experience I have in other places as the best in the world.”

“I think it’s the perfect time. A long time ago I wanted to fight in Guadalajara, but I think this is the perfect moment, the perfect fight to bring to Guadalajara.

“I’m so excited to show everybody they’re wrong. I feel very good. I have a lot of years in my career; 17 years as a pro. I’ve had injuries too. I’m not at my best but I’m very motivated and I’m very happy to be in the gym, to train at 100 per cent, and they’re going to see what is coming. I’m very excited and motivated. Be careful with that.

“He [Ryder] has everything to win, nothing to lose, right? He’s always there, fighting with the good fighters trying to get that opportunity, and now he got it. It’s going to be a danger for me, but I feel good.

“It will be one of the best moments in my career for sure. The fight with Billy Joe Saunders in Dallas was amazing, one of the most enjoyable fights I’ve ever been in. I think in Guadalajara it will be the same or even more.”

John Ryder
“It’s a great opportunity that has not been gifted. I’ve worked hard at this for years. Like you said, I’ve suffered the highs, the lows, the bottom of the barrel, really. I’d like to take time to thank you, Saul and Eddie, for making this fight happen. Charlie, for working tirelessly back and forth with you to get the deal done. And three, it’s right what [Charlie Sims] said about my trainer Tony Sims, he can’t be here because of the schedule.

“We’re all in big fights and Tony’s been a rock in my career and someone that’s brought me back from the bottom and believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself, and I thank him for that. I also thank the family and friends, you, Charlie, for sticking by me and livening me up at times. Down to my mom and dad, my partner, and you know what, down to myself because if I give up on myself then I won’t be here. I’ve dug deep, I’ve done what I’ve had to do, I’ve worked hard to get back into this mandatory position, took the right fights at the right times, and I’m just really pleased to be here.

“Obviously the decision went against us in 2019, then the Covid times hit, which really messed everything up, but like you say, and I truly believe, timing is everything in this sport. It waits for no man, but the timing is right for me now.

“I’m not here for a holiday and I wouldn’t bring the team with me, have the team around me that I have if I didn’t believe I could win. I’m going, leaving no stone unturned, putting everything in this camp and truly believe I can come away victorious on May 6.”

Eddy Reynoso
“I’m super happy, proud to go back to the place, the home that made Canelo the boxer that he is and made me the trainer that I am. We are going to come back with our hand raised. We’re not going to let down, we’re not going to retire. It won’t be an exhibition fight, we’re going to return with all four belts that he came with, and that’s something that we’re going to do with pride. We also just really want to put on a good show for the fans.”

“He had a great rehabilitation for his hand, and we’ve been working hard. He’s at 100% and this is going to be a huge 2023. He’s going to go up against lots of challenges this year in his career and we’re excited for what’s to come this year.”

“It’s going to be fantastic; it’ll be an entirely full stadium. There is a saying that ‘you aren’t always a prophet in your home’. Canelo will change that. He will be a prophet in his home, he will fill the stadium. I am very proud to return as winners outside of Mexico from all the fights we’ve had outside of Mexico, but we want to share it and we will share it with the people of Jalisco. We just hope the people enjoy having their champion home again.”

Eddie Hearn
“Thank you for joining us here today at the incredible Petco Park, home of the Padres in San Diego. And thank you for the incredible team for letting us host a very special and important press conference here. The first thing I thought when I walked around here was, wow, we must do a Canelo Alvarez fight here in the Petco Park stadium. It would be incredible.

“But firstly, we have some very special business to take care of on May 6, Akron Stadium, Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. Canelo Alvarez will defend his undisputed super middleweight world championship against John Ryder, live and exclusive on DAZN pay per view around the world, and we cannot wait. Sport is a business now, but this was something where business didn’t count. This was personal to Saul Alvarez and Eddy Reynoso. This was from the heart. This was an opportunity to bring an event back to his people. Regardless of the money, regardless of everything else, it was an opportunity to celebrate the sport, to celebrate his career in front of what will be 50,000 people in Guadalajara on May the 6th, Cinco de Mayo weekend. An event, an atmosphere that I believe you will not witness again in boxing.

“The whole world will be watching as he defends his Undisputed Super-Middleweight world championship against this man, John Ryder, someone that we’ve worked with for over a decade. He’s paid his dues in the sport. He’s had his ups and his downs and now he’s on a big up. Victories over Danny Jacobs and Zach Parker made him the mandatory challenger, the interim world champion, and someone that will come to Guadalajara with every intention to win. With a big heart, with lots of strength, and a chance to make history for Great Britain and become the Undisputed Super-Middleweight champion of the world.

“But in front of him, the biggest star in the sport of boxing, Saul Canelo Alvarez. The undisputed champion, someone that we’ve worked with for a long time, and I have seen fearless to challenges. There’s a lot of opinion in boxing, and what I see from Canelo and from Eddy Reynoso is a pure competitor. A winner, a legend of the sport, that he’s prepared to take on anybody. His last four fights have been unifying against Billy Joe Saunders, undisputed against Caleb Plant, stepping up in a fight that many say he shouldn’t have taken against Dimitri Bivol, and then Gennady Golovkin. The best resume in the sport of boxing, but now coming back off injury, still with a point to prove to some people, crazily, against a man that’s there to win it all on May 6. This is going to be a tremendous fight, a tremendous card, and I think that people here and particularly in Guadalajara should be very proud of Saul Canelo Alvarez and Eddy Reynoso for bringing this event to the people on May 6th live on DAZN. It’s going to be incredible.

Charlie Sims (manager of Ryder, and son of Ryder’s longtime trainer Tony Sims)
“It’s been a great experience doing this press tour. We had the pleasure of going to the stadium, look at the stadium, imagine the ring in the middle of the stadium, and what 50,000 are going to look like. It’s been great to spend some quality time with John as well just on this trip. One person I want to take this opportunity to thank who couldn’t be here because the schedules clashed was Tony Sims.

“Tony Sims is a trainer with John Ryder, he’s dedicated years and years to the sport and years and years of developing John into the fighter he is today. They’ve been through all the lows together and now this is the pinnacle. He’s going to face the best in the division, the undisputed champion, Canelo Alvarez. I just want to take this opportunity again to thank everybody for making this event happen, but undoubtedly, we wouldn’t be here, me and John wouldn’t be here without Tony today, so I just want to take that opportunity to say thank you to him. And no doubt he is going to be extremely excited and extremely proud, come May 6 to face Canelo in the ring. He’s one of the best.”

An announcement on ticket sale dates will be made soon.

MERCITO “NO MERCY” GESTA:
“As a fighter you don’t want to dodge anyone. Jojo is one of the best and I want that. You should expect a better me. I just had a son, so I’m not only doing this for me now. “I feel good. It’s part of my job to be ready. I have a kid at home I have to feed. It’s my dream to one day fight in Hawaii.”

PATRICIO MANUEL, SUPER FEATHERWEIGHT PROSPECT:
“I’m grateful to be here. I grew up in the area. It feels good to fight on a Golden Boy card. It feels very full circle fighting here where I have roots.”
OSCAR DE LA HOYA, CHAIRMAN AND CEO OF GOLDEN BOY:
“It’s a very unique venue. It’s our first time hosting a fight here and who better to fight than Zurdo Ramirez and Gabe Rosado. Like we said, we’re bringing more local Southern California shows.

“This fight is very important for Zurdo and Rosado. May the best man win. It’s going to be a fun, explosive fight. Thank you to the fighters because without you, we wouldn’t be able to make these fights.”

VIDEO: Cyrus Pattinson vs Chris Jenkins & Undercard NXTGEN Press Conference

NEWCASTLE NXTGEN PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES

Cyrus Pattinson – Alnwick, England – 5-0, 3 KOs – fighting Chris Jenkins for the vacant WBA International Welterweight Title:

“It’s more excitement than pressure to be honest with you. I remember sneaking into the arena and now I’m headlining it. It’s something that I’ve always picture and visualised. I’ve been working hard for this. This opportunity came up and I was ready to take it. Here we are. He’s showed he’s got a lot left in the tank. He’s not been in one-sided losses. He could have got the decision against Tyrone McKenna. He was beating Marku on points. He beat Indongo – unified World Champion. He can’t be on the slide that much if these fights were only six months ago. I know it’s going to be a tough test and it’s definitely what I need in my career. We’ve progressed every fight. I’ve evolved as a fighter. I’ve grown into the professional style of things. Me and Graeme have been working very hard in the gym. I think it’s coming together and we’ve built on the last camp as well. Hopefully you’ll see a lot of that on Saturday night. St James Park is an amazing place isn’t it, but Jenkins is the only opponent that exists in my mind. That WBA International Title is the only belt that exists in my mind. I’ve never ever looked past any opponent and I’ll continue to do that.”

Chris Jenkins – Garnant, Wales – 23-6-3, 8 KOs – fighting Cyrus Pattinson for the vacant English Heavyweight Title:

“First of all I’d like to show my respect towards Cyrus. He’s a good fighter. He thinks likewise of myself. I think I blew up on the scene back in 2013 so it’s ten years in the game. I’m just happy to get given another opportunity on such a great card in Newcastle. I do look a bit fat in the poster compared to him though. I I’d have known he was wearing that I’d have made more of an effort. He looks like he’s going on a date. We’re there to do a job on Saturday. I’ve had a good camp with my team and Gary Lockett. I’m the older of the two, I’m well-seasoned. Hopefully that will pay off in the fight on Saturday. I don’t feel any pressure. Not one bit. I don’t feel pressure. If anything, pressure makes me perform better. He’s headlining a show in his home city, in front of his own fans. Is it going to go against him? No, it’s going to boost him up a bit more. I know what I’ve got to do. If the fight isn’t going my way, but it’s an entertaining fight, I know I’m in there for the big fights still. I want to keep myself in that mix. I want to go out on a high. What drives me in this game is my children. I’ve got three young boys and that’s what drives me in the game. If I can keep winning then they can say daddy is a champion.”

Pat McCormack – Sunderland, England – 3-0, 2 KOs – fighting Dario Socci in an eight round international Welterweight contest:

“I’ve had three fights and two first round stoppages so for in my professional journey. I got six rounds under my belt in my last fight which was another step up the ladder. We’re just going to keep on stepping up the ladder. The pros are a totally different game. Obviously in the amateurs it’s only three rounds. You can win the first two and coast the last. In the pros you’ve got to be fit and you’ve got to be ready. It’s a 12-round fight, that’s what we’re going for, title fights. It’s a completely different ballgame, smaller gloves, it’s a proper fight and people get hurt in this game. You’ve got to do everything that you can to be the best that you can be. We’re just taking it one step at a time. I’ve only done seven rounds as a professional. On Saturday I’ve got a good strong fighter. He took Troy Williamson 10 rounds. This is exactly what I need at this stage of my career. To be honest I’m not going in there to get people out of there. My first couple of fights I was wanting to get them out of there as fast as I could. I bumped into an Argentinian last time who was just there to survive. He wasn’t there to win. I’d never really had that in the amateurs. Even when you got on top of someone they would never stop trying to win. It’s a little bit different. I’m ready for a good hard eight rounds. I want to show my skills and what I’ve been working on. It’s not about getting him out of there. If it comes it comes. I’m just going to go out there and show what I’ve been working on in the gym. I think I’m on a different level to him. I’m going to show that on Saturday night.”

Dario Socci – Rome, Italy – 15-7-2, 6 KOs – fighting Pat McCormack in an eight round international Welterweight contest:

“It’s going to be a totally different fight to the Troy Williamson fight. Williamson is physically really strong. It was a very tough fight against him. Pat has great boxing IQ, he has skills, he’s fast. I will try to fight a very short distance from the beginning. I have a lot of experience as a pro, amateur and pro is a totally different world. I always remember Lomachenko against Salido. Loma had two gold medals at the Olympic Games and Salido was the underdog. I will go for the upset as well. Of course, I’m not Salido, but he’s not Lomachenko.”

Hopey Price – Leeds, England – 9-0, 3 KOs – fighting Thomas Masson for the vacant WBA Continental Super-Bantamweight Title:

“I don’t think I’ve been fully tested yet. I boxed good opposition in the early stage of my career but never once in there have I felt like I’m finding it tough. I’ve always been levels above the opposition I’ve been in with up until now. I’m a student of the game so I’m always watching these big fights. I’ll watch the Fulton vs. Inoue fight with interest, I always see it as how can I beat these guys. I believe that I’ll be there one day. In two or three years these are the guys that I’m going to be fighting. I always watch them and keep an eye on everyone around my weight. I’m coming for the number one spot so I’ve got to look at the best in the world. I’m confident in my ability and I feel that I’m not far away at all, but I’ve still got to realise that I’ve only just turned 23. I’m only nine fights in. That’s why I’ve got my trainer and manager Dave Coldwell. Thankfully I’ve just signed a new deal with Matchroom, Eddie and Frank. I’ll leave that in their hands. Whenever they’re ready to let me go I will fight anybody in the division.”

Thomas Masson – Bruay-la-Buissiere, France – 20-5-1, 7 KOs – fighting Hopey Price for the vacant WBA Continental Super-Bantamweight Title:

“In terms of motivation nothing has changed. You’re right, in comparison to Hopey I’ve had a very long career. He’s a lot younger than myself, but as soon as this fight was proposed to me I didn’t hesitate at all. I’ve got lots of experience. You touched on the World Title fight, I had a crack at the WBC World Title. I’ve got experience boxing all over the world and you never lose that hunger. I certainly haven’t lose it. You’re not always going into fights to win a belt or win a title. I always feel that you gain experience from fights. I go into fights to pick up experience and to become a better fighter. I went into that World Title fight and I’d had a year of inactivity, I’d not been in the ring for such a long time. Maybe that explains what happened at the start of the fight, but I feel like I really started to come into it towards the end of the fight and I gave it a real good shot at trying to win it. You learn from those experiences for sure.”

Solomon Dacres – Birmingham, England – 5-0, 1 KO – fighting Robert Ismay for the vacant English Heavyweight Title:

“I think it’s just boxing IQ. Little things like distance control, controlling the rounds, everyone thinks that Heavyweights are just doing to come forwards swinging and being as strong as they can be. I think I’ve got a bit more finesse for the Heavyweight division. I’m not going to run. I’ve done my running in the training camp. If I jab and move he won’t hit me. If I stand in the middle of the ring I’ll beat the shit out of him. That’s his only chance to touch me. I love it. His fans have got their football flags here today. Football has nothing to do with this. It’s good. There’s nothing better than his fans coming to support him. They’ll rile him up and everything and it’s just going to give me more incentive to put the performance on that I’m going to put on. I’m not far away. I’ve sparred World Champions and former World Champions. I’ve not been dossing around in the sport, I’ve been sparring the top guys in the gyms and putting the work in. I know that I’m not far off those guys at all. It’s just a matter of getting more fights under my belt. His best performance is sitting in that chair with a mic. We’ll see if he can make the ten-round distance. That’s his only hope, if he can clip me early. He’s going to be f*cked after about three rounds. That’s his only option.”

Robert Ismay – Newcastle, England – 11-0, 4 KOs – fighting Solomon Dacres for the vacant English Heavyweight Title:

“This is what I turned pro for. The only reason that you haven’t heard of me is because of what I thought was a career ending hand injury. The only reason that you haven’t heard of me winning British Titles, Commonwealth Titles is because of that. My career was on the up, and do you know what? I would have snubbed my nose up at the English Title on the way up. But obviously I’m not now. I’m 35 and I’m having one last crack at the whip. I intend to take it with both hands. I’m not giving absolutely anything away about what I’m going to do. We all know what he’s going to do, he’s going to dance. He’s going to run. Isn’t he? If you don’t run, and you stand in the middle of the ring and meet me then there’s only one outcome. You’ll come out second best. You’ll find out when I hit you on the button kid. You don’t know who you’re stepping in the ring with kid. You haven’t got a clue. Your team haven’t got a clue. Where do you think I came from? I came from the best amateur club in the country. He doesn’t know anything about my amateur pedigree. I’m going to knock him out. It’s as simple as that. That belt is staying in Newcastle.”

Callum French – Gateshead, England – 3-0, 1 KO – fighting Jordan Ellison in an eight round Lightweight contest:

“It is brilliant to be back home. Obviously boxing on GB all around the world, boxing in these Eastern European countries, these sports halls all over the world. It was nice to come home in 2018 to the Gateshead Leisure Centre and do it in front of my friends and my family. This is just another step up, boxing at the arena where I’ve always dreamed of doing it since I first laced on the gloves at 13. I’m loving the journey. This is what it’s all about at this stage of my career, getting these experiences in. There’s no point going in there and blasting journeymen out. You want durable opponents in front of you who are going to take you rounds and help you learn your trade a bit. I think that’s why Matchroom are doing such a good job with me and other fighters on the stable because they’re putting us in competitive fights early on and not just throwing journeymen at us. They’re putting us in fights that we’re actually going to learn something from. I’m glad they’re doing that. I’ve boxed at a high level all over the world and you don’t want to come down too many levels.”

Mark Dickinson – West Rainton, England – 4-0, 1 KO – fighting Ben Ridings in an eight round Middleweight contest:

“I’m back at Birtley, back at home and happy, relaxed and confident going into the fight. I just can’t wait to show the different side of boxing that I’ve got now I’m back at Birtley. I’m going to put a good performance in on Saturday. It means a lot to me to represent Birtley. I wear the Birtley boys tracksuit with pride. The Birtley boys are taking over. Without Graeme (Rutherford) I don’t think Birtley would have the name that it has. It definitely wouldn’t. It’s all down to him. He’s very dedicated and gives up a lot of his own time and puts it into us. He’s trained me since I was 6. He’s been like a second father figure in my life. He’s not just a good boxing coach but a good life coach as well. He’s got my mind in the right place for where I need to be on Saturday night. Ben Ridings seems like a game enough lad and he’ll come to fight. I’m going to show that there’s different levels in boxing and I’m a few levels above Ben Ridings. We’ve talked about these nights for years, since we’ve been training together on the Team GB squad and as boys at Birtley. They’re finally happening now with a big Matchroom show in the North East. All of us fighting together on the same card is a dream come true.”

Adam Reichard – Sunderland, England – 1-0 – fighting Jahfieus Faure in a four round Lightweight contest:

“We were the first at the arena because we had a couple of fighters on the undercard. I was the first one with my hands wrapped but we didn’t end up ringwalking until about 11.45pm. I think it was after 12 by the time we got out. It was a long night to say the least but it was all good experience. I haven’t had much of a look at my opponent. I leave that to my coaches. I’ve seen the size of him and what he looks like, stuff like that. I’ll box whoever I’m put in front of. I’m over the moon to be fighting back at the arena. Since I’ve been boxing at 7 or 8 you always dream of boxing at the arena. That’s where you want to be. I’ve dedicated my whole life to boxing. Who wouldn’t want to be on these shows? It’s my second time at the arena and I’ve sold a good few tickets.”

Maiseyrose Courtney – Eltham, England – 1-0 – fighting Buchra El Quaissi in a four round Super-Flyweight contest:

“My debut was nuts really. I didn’t really have any time to think about it or warm up. The whip came upstairs and told me I had five minutes, I got my gloves on a bosh, straight out. Afterwards, that’s when it sunk in a little bit. My professional debut walking out to 7,000 people. It was a little bit scary. I thought I did well. I wanted to do a little bit better, I’d have like to have knocked her out. I’m very lucky to say that I’ve had that experience happen really quickly in my first fight. It was proper scary. I always spar girls that are a little bit heavier than me, a little bit more experienced. Thanks to Kevin and Tony down the gym, they know what they’re doing with me. I get beat up in sparring, hopefully on the night I don’t get beat up. When I used to box for Repton I never used to box like a pressure fighter, I used to box on the back foot dancing and all of that fancy stuff. With Kev I had to go through a process of changing my style. I’ve only had one fight so I don’t want to start calling people out, but I will if it comes down to it. If the time is right then I’ll take it.”

Muhammad Ali – Leicester, England – making his professional debut in a four round Super-Bantamweight contest against Sean Jackson:

“When I was younger, I was a little chubby kid. I lost a lot of weight when I was only ten years old and then my coach said to me that I might as well start boxing. I’ve loved it since then and I’ve never stopped training and fighting. I’ve always loved to do it. We’ve got some top level lads in the gym and I’m constantly learning about how boxing is; every skill, the way the fights go, how the boxing life is. I’m learning about the life of a boxer and it’s brilliant. I don’t feel any pressure carry this name. When I was an amateur, I had this name, I’ve had this name since I was born. I don’t feel any pressure about it. He’s a legend himself, he created it. Whatever god has got planned for me, that’s it. Sam Jones has been brilliant to me. He’s helped me through turning pro and everything like that. He helped me sign with Matchroom and I can’t thank him enough. God willing I’ll get a knockout.”

DERRICK JAMES, BOB SANTOS, SUGARHILL STEWARD AND BUDDY MCGIRT QUOTES PREVIEWING DAVID BENAVIDEZ VS. CALEB PLANT

LAS VEGAS – March 16, 2023 – Top trainers and boxing minds, Derrick JamesBob SantosSugarHill Steward and Buddy McGirt, put their collective wisdom together to preview and breakdown the upcoming showdown between super middleweight rivals David “The Mexican Monster” Benavidez and Caleb Plant, a 50-50 matchup, during a virtual media roundtable on Thursday as some of boxing’s best strategists expect an intriguing clash of styles and personalities in the long-awaited showdown.

Benavidez vs. Plant headlines a SHOWTIME PPV event beginning at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT on Saturday, March 25 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas in an event presented by Premier Boxing Champions.

Tickets for the live event, which is promoted by TGB Promotions and Sampson Boxing, are on sale now and can be purchased HERE through AXS.com.

Here is what the trainers had to say Thursday:

DERRICK JAMES, Trainer of Errol Spence Jr., Jermell Charlo and Frank Martin

“This is an interesting fight. I like both of those guys and I’ve known them for a while. It comes down to who can take it. Who can implement what they do best? Both have fast hands and are athletic. It’s going to come down to fortitude.

“Both guys share the weakness of depth. Because they’ve never had to dig themselves out of trouble. That’s what we don’t know about, because we haven’t really seen them have to do that. It may not be their weakness, but looking at it from the outside, we don’t really know.

“When I’ve had a fighter who has bad blood with an opponent like Benavidez and Plant, I had to make one strategy for fighting and one for boxing. Whatever he felt, I had to coach him from that perspective during the fight.

“A lot of times if I see something brewing in the opposite corner where the father might be getting emotional, I might say something really loud so that he can hear me. Something the opposite of what I really want, just to ruffle them up. That can make the father and son question each other. It’s very hard to be on the same page.

“If I was fighting David Benavidez, I would do my best to not let him be himself. I would do whatever I could to offset him. The best way is probably with movement. Because whenever he stands in front of you, it’s a bad day. You better practice holding and clinching, because if you don’t, it’s going to be a long night.

“If I’m training Benavidez, I’d tell him he has to pressure Caleb. But you have to watch out, because Caleb sets traps. You have to back him down at a distance and hope that he’ll succumb to the pressure. Caleb is a great counter puncher and has great defense. You have to stay two steps ahead of him.”

BOB SANTOS, Trainer of Mario Barrios, Alberto Puello, Hector Luis Garcia and Carlos Adames

“I know both guys very well. The bad blood is real. I’ve been cordial with both guys and I’ve been in the middle of it sometimes. We’ve all known these two have been on a head-on collision course.

“I think it’s going to be brutal at times in there. But if Benavidez gets too intense, he could get into some trouble. We’ll see how it plays out.

“People are going to be surprised with Benavidez, because he’s chose to fight the way he has, so that he can make a name for himself. But he’s really a savant. He’s a lot smarter in the ring than people think. I think he can do more things than Caleb Plant can in the end, but the only thing I’m worried about is how much he’s talked about going for the knockout. If he stays within himself, I like him to break Plant down.

“I think both of their stocks are going to rise in this fight. Eventually, Benavidez will force Plant to fight. He’s going to go through the fire and I’m interested to see how he reacts.

“The father-son, trainer-fighter dynamic in training camp is a good thing, because they know how to push their kid. The problems come from guiding the corner. When I was with Robert and Ruben Guerrero, we were fighting Danny Garcia and we were up in the rounds, but after Robert got hit with a good shot, I thought his dad got emotional and stopped caring about winning the rounds. Caleb can turn things up in a way that could potentially make the Benavidez corner panic.

“I would tell Caleb to keep turning Benavidez. He’s gotta use his angles. I’d be MMA all night clinching and holding with him, because you can’t let him get comfortable.

“For Benavidez, it’s all about controlled aggression. He really can’t stand Caleb. He wants to hurt the guy. If I’m the trainer I’m stressing that you have to be methodical. Work behind the jab and control the distance.”

SUGARHILL STEWARD, Trainer of Tyson Fury, Anthony Dirrell and Vladimir Shishkin

“This is one of the biggest fights in boxing right now. This is one of those fights that really interests me. You have two former world champions, two young fighters that are at the top of their game. As we all know, there’s some bad blood. There’s more than just a fight on the line. It’s something personal.

“Both of these fighters are at the top. They both have fast hands and they both have the ability to knock each other out. It just makes it such an exciting fight at 168 pounds. They’ve both been asking for the best, and here you go, we’ve got two of the best right here.

“With Anthony Dirrell, we had two different game plans for Benavidez and Plant. With Benavidez, it was to box him and to be strong. With Caleb, it wasn’t to box him it was to pressure him more because he’s a good boxer himself and he has beautiful movement. I didn’t want Anthony to box him. Anthony didn’t want to box him either. It was two different plans but with these two guys together, it’s an electrifying fight because they both can do both things – box and pressure. It’s whoever sticks to their game plan.

“There’s going to be a lot of emotions in this one. I think both of them are going to be emotional because they are going to bring it out of each other. It’s about whoever can control themselves. Honestly, it should get a little bit wild in there. They are going to let those emotions out.

“My advice for Caleb would be to box. Use your superior movement and angles. Don’t look for a knockout punch because things happen in boxing when you’re not looking for something. You can catch him off guard. Caleb does that very well, as he did with Anthony Dirrell.

“My advice for Benavidez would be to know how to cut the ring off. David cuts the ring off well but that’s the most important thing. Try to make Caleb move the way David wants to move him, and then it’s about timing. David is fast, he’s big, he can jab, but I believe he has to cut off the ring to slow the pace down.”

BUDDY MCGIRT, Trainer of Zhanibek Alimkhanuly and former trainer of Arturo Gatti and Antonio Tarver

“I think this is going to be a great fight and something that boxing needs. You have two of the best in the division and I personally think that this should open the door for more great fights to happen in boxing. This is opening the door and letting people know that real fighters still fight each other.

“You have to be able to control the bad blood. You can’t go in there with one thing in mind, just trying to knock him out. You can walk into something you might not want to. You have to take it and use it to your advantage and use it in a way that’s going to make the fight easier. If you go in there trying to gun him out, you’ll wind up getting gunned out.

“Father and son combinations are all different. It’s all about how if things aren’t going according to their plan, how can David and Jose Sr. get on the same page in that one minute in between rounds?

“If I was training Caleb, one of the things I would be telling him is that you can’t give him the same look every round. When Benavidez starts throwing his combinations, you have to punch back to break his rhythm. You can’t just let him get into a rhythm because then it’s going to be a long night. There’s an old saying, ‘You can’t punch and block punches at the same time.’ If Benavidez is throwing punches, throw one right down the pike to try to break his rhythm and give him different looks.”

“THE RECONQUEST” KIM CLAVEL VS. NAOMI REYES April 28 at Place Bell in Laval, Canada TICKETS GO ON SALE TONIGHT

LAVAL, Quebec, Canada (March 16, 2023) — Montreal’s Kim Clavel (16-0-1, 3KO) will step back into the ring to take on Naomi “La Chapita” Arellano Reyes (9-2-0, 5KO), of Los Angeles, for the vacant World Boxing Council (WBC) International Flyweight Championship on April 28, at Place Bell in Laval. The vacant WBC international flyweight title will be on the line as confirmed by the WBC. We have also requested sanctions for the division’s IBF Inter-Continental and WBO Inter-Continental titles as well. Verbal confirmation has been obtained and we expect to receive the required sanctions confirmation within the next few hours.

This will be the first fight for Clavel, 32, since the incredible clash this past of January 13 against World Boxing Association (WBA) world champion Yesica Nery Plata (29-2-0, 3KO), which the popular Canadian lost by decision in her first WBC title defense.

April 28th will mark the start of Clavel’s “RECONQUEST”, who intends to prove herself again by positioning her for a rematch with Plata as quickly as possible. She is presently ranked as the WBC #1, WBO #3 and IBF #4 contender.

Clavel is more motivated than ever, saying: “I want to regain my world title, but I will take it one  fight at a time. We will reposition ourselves in the rankings. I’m going to need all of Quebec behind me. I’m confident with my team, my perseverance and all of you that, by the end of the year, we’ll get more than just a world champion belt! Thank you for your eternal support.”

Originally from Nayarit, Mexico, Reyes now lives and trains in Los Angeles, California. The 28-year-old Reyes is renowned for her power as evidenced by her 5 knockout victories to date. Her most notable win was versus former multiple time world champion Carina Moreno (25-7-0, 6KO) in 2020. In her last outing last October,  Reyes lost by decision against Gabriela Fundura (8-0-0, 4KO) for the WBC Latino flyweight title in a PBC event broadcast on Showtime.

Clavel and Reyes were supposed to face each other in August 2021 at the IGA Stadium, but the latter had to withdraw due to health restrictions to enter Canada, and she was replaced by Maria Vargas (14-4-1, 1KO).

“It is with great enthusiasm and confidence that we are relaunching Kim with the ultimate goal of allowing her to avenge her defeat and regain her world title,” said GYM President Yvon Michel. “We remember the great intense and passionate fight between the two champions last January. Besides, the latter is still in the running for the 2023 Fight of the Year! The 4,000 spectators at Place Bell are still excited. To return to the world championship, Kim must prove herself again and these international titles will allow her to become a must challenger for the champion.”

Tickets will go on sale this evening (Thursday, March 16) at 9:00 p.m. ET on www.evenko.ca and directly at GYM at info@groupeyvonmichel.ca.

CODY CROWLEY TRAINING CAMP QUOTES

LAS VEGAS – March 16, 2023 – Undefeated welterweight contender Cody Crowley will look to further cement his place in the star-studded welterweight division when he takes on veteran Abel Ramos in the SHOWTIME PPV telecast opener on Saturday, March 25 in a Premier Boxing Champions event from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

The pay-per-view telecast begins at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT and will be headlined by super middleweight rivals David “The Mexican Monster” Benavidez and Caleb Plant in a long-awaited matchup between former world champions.

Tickets for the live event, which is promoted by TGB Promotions and Sampson Boxing, are on sale now and can be purchased HERE through AXS.com.

The 29-year-old Crowley (21-0, 9 KOs) is a native of Peterborough, Ontario, Canada but trains in Las Vegas with longtime coach Ibn Cason as he continues his ascent in the 147-pound division. After impressively dispatching the previously unbeaten Kudratillo Abdukakhorov and rugged contender Josesito Lopez in his last two outings, Crowley hopes to take advantage of another opportunity on one of boxing’s biggest stages.

Here is what Crowley had to say about training camp, Ramos and more:

On what he’s shown the boxing world with his most recent wins:

“With my last two wins broadcast on SHOWTIME® and SHOWTIME PPV, I proved to the world that I’m an elite fighter. I belong in every conversation regarding the welterweight division. I earned the right to challenge for the welterweight championship of the world.”

On where he can still improve as a fighter:

“As a fighter, there is always room for improvement. I’m an all-around fighter. I can box, I can punch, I can take a punch and I can outthink any opponent who is in front of me. Improvement will come as I am able to get more activity and not deal with as much ring rust. Improvement will also come as the stakes in each fight are raised.”

On his opponent, Abel Ramos:

“Abel Ramos is a solid fighter. I believe that he is coming to fight and will be very aggressive. But, he is now in the ring with an extremely hungry fighter. As the fight progresses, I will discover the holes in his style. With my non-stop aggression, I will suffocate anything he’s trying to do.”

On where he stands in the welterweight division:

“I truly believe that I am one of the top three welterweight fighters in the world. The only ones ahead of me are Errol Spence Jr. and Terence Crawford. Fighting either of them, I can then prove to be the best in the world. I believe that I can beat either of them, because I’m younger and hungrier. There is no one who can keep up with my relentless attack and determination in the ring.

“Right now, I believe that I’m better than any of the other contenders. It’s time to fight for the world title. It’s time to fight Errol Spence Jr.”

On fighting in memory of his late father:

“Dedicating this fight and my career to honor my father’s memory means everything to me. He was and still is my greatest fan. He pushed me to succeed. He believed in me when there was nobody else. Becoming welterweight champion of the world is our dream.

“With my father’s passing, I started ‘55 for 55’ to raise funds and awareness for suicide prevention. It is my goal to help people and save lives with this program and for it to be another way of honoring his memory.”

Pascal has competed in 12 world title fights, the first in 2008 in England against Carl Froch and the last 11 years later in Atlanta against Badou Jack. During this period, Pascal met the best light heavyweights of his generation, including Adrian Diaconu, Chad Dawson, Bernard Hopkins, Lucian Bute, Sergey Kovalev, and Dmitry Bivol. He set many records for ticket sales and pay-per-view, with Lucian Bute at the Bell Center in 2014, where more than 21,000 spectators attended the event. In his most recent fight last May in Florida, he edged undefeated IBF #1 contender Fanlong Meng to set the stage for the championship eliminator against Eifert. Tonight, Pascal will return to a Canadian ring for the first time since 2018.

Michael Eifert, from Magdeburg, Germany, has been a professional since 2018. His only loss came by majority decision to Tom Dzemski, which he avenged the following year in a rematch to capture the IBF Youth and WBC Youth light heavyweight titles. In his last fight, Eifert seized the IBF Inter-Continental light heavyweight title against Italian Adriano Sperandio, which earned him a place in this title eliminator against Pascal.

An all-Canadian showdown between Quebec’s popular Mathieu “G-Time” Germain (21-2-1, 9 KOs) and Ontario’s Steven Wilcox (24-3-1, 7 KOs) will be the 10-round co-feature attraction. In 2021, Camara challenged Kali Reis for the WBA/WBO unified super lightweight championship, losing by split decision in an extremely close and hard-fought fight. She has rebounded earning two wins last year.

Undefeated bantamweight contender and former Canadian amateur champion, Amanda Galle (7-0-1, 1 KO), from Mississauga, Ontario, meets Lorena Cruz Aispuro (4-2, 0 KOs), of Mexico, in an eight-rounder. Galle is on the verge of a world title opportunity.

On the eve of St. Patrick’s Day, Irishman “Mighty” Joseph Ward (8-1, 4 KOs), a 2016 Ireland Olympian, battles Mexican light heavyweight Mario Andrade Rodriguez (7-0, 4 KOs) in an eight-round contest.

Rising featherweight star Caroline Veyre (2-0), a decorated Canadian amateur and 2020 Olympian, will take on Emma “Valkyria” Gongora (5-2), fighting out of Marseille, France, in a six-round matchup.

Italy’s welterweight sensation Yoel Angeloni (1-0) will make his North American debut as a professional in a four-round battle against Alexander Calixto (1-1, 0 KOs). Born to an Italian father and Cuban mother, Angeloni is a citizen of both Italy and Cuba. As such, he competed for both the Cuban and Italian National amateur teams, compiling an impressive record of 130-2. Fighting under the Italian colors, Angeloni won gold medals at the 2019 Junior European Championships and the 2021 Emil Jechev Memorial International Youth Boxing Tournament.

Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez predicts he will KO Gabe Rosado & go on to become 4-division world champion

LAS VEGAS (March 16, 2023) –- “Zurdo” Ramirez has a definitive plan!

?

It all starts this Saturday when the former World Super Middleweight Champion returns to headline another DAZN card, matched against two-time world title challenger Gabriel “King” Rosado (26-16-1, 15 KOs) in the 12-round main event.

Promoted by Golden Boy Promotions in association with Zurdo Promotions, the white-hot event will be streamed live on DAZN (8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT) The Walter Pyramid in Long Beach, California.

“Zurdo” is predicting a knockout victory, although he’s not taking Rosado lightly. He personally knows the Philadelphia native now living in Los Angeles and “Zurdo” has sparred with Rosado in the past. Rosado has fought a Who’s Who of opponents, notching wins over two world champions, Joshua Clottey and Kassim Ouma. Rosado has also fought monsters such as Gennadiy Golovkin, Jaime Munguia, Daniel Jacobs, David Lemieux, Jermell Charlo, and Peter Quillin.

“It (Rosado’s quality experience) means a lot and I respect him,” Ramirez said. “I know Rosado and he can be dangerous for any fighter. And the Mexico (Ramirez) versus Puerto Rico (Rosado) rivalry means a lot, too. Historically there have been some amazing fights throughout history between boxers from these two countries. Everyone knows that, when it’s Mexico versus Puerto Rico, it’s going to be an entertaining fight.”

“Zurdo” is reloading after he suffered the first loss of his professional career 13 1/2-year professional boxing career last November to WBA Super Light Heavyweight World Champion Dmitry Bivol by way of a decision.

“My plan is to win,” Ramirez explained. “I’m looking forward to getting back to my winning ways. I predict a KO win in this fight. Everyone knows that I’m game for any fight. Anyone in the division: Artur Beterbiev, Callum Smith, Joe Smith, Joshua Buatsi, Marcus Brown, or a rematch with Bivol.

“My goals remain the same. I’m still chasing that light heavyweight world title, then I will move up to cruiserweight and heavyweight. My goal is to become a 4-division world champion!.”

FULL CARD CONFIRMED FOR ARTHUR WORLD TITLE FIGHT ON CHANNEL 5

Free-to-air boxing is back with a bang as Lyndon Arthur faces a world title showdown live and exclusive on Channel 5, in association with Ladbrokes and Infinitum Entertainment.

‘King’ Arthur clashes with Argentinian KO artist Braian Nahuel Suarez for the vacant IBO World Light Heavyweight crown, on Friday March 24 at the University of Bolton Stadium.

And as well as bringing world title action to your screens, Wasserman Boxing have also delivered an undercard that packs a serious punch.

Supporting Arthur’s crack at world title glory, is a must-see show crammed with 50-50 fights, domestic scraps you don’t want to miss and a host of local, national and international stars.

Arthur knows that by seeing off the dangerous Suarez, and taking home the IBO title once held by the great Roy Jones Jr, he will open the door to some huge fights in a lethal light heavyweight division and be in position to deliver the fights that fans want to see.

The Manchester hero’s world title shot will kick-off Channel 5’s live and free coverage from 10pm and then be followed by a domestic dust-up that cannot fail to ignite.

Kane Gardner will have home support when he tackles Wolverhampton’s Conah Walker over eight rounds, with a firecracker of an eight rounder expected.

Both super lightweight contenders know a statement victory, in front of a massive audience on Channel 5, can catapult them into title contention, so expect both men to leave everything in the ring.

The future of women’s boxing, Chloe Watson, then follows when she takes on Argentina’s Romina Sosa over six rounds.

Trained by Ricky Hatton, the formidable flyweight has built a perfect record since leaving the Great Britain amateur set-up for the pro ranks, and so bet on her to serve up yet another sizzling display on the big stage.

Wigan warrior James Moorcroft and Liverpool’s bang-in-form Nathan Bennett collide in an English Welterweight title final eliminator, just before the main event. This promises to be a blood and guts affair with a title shot being dangled in front of these popular and proud 147 lbs fighters.

Destructive Kazak puncher Sultan Zaurbek will go hunting a 10th knockout win of his pro career in Bolton, when he squares off against Facundo Acre, over eight rounds.

The super featherweight southpaw – highly ranked by a number of the world’s sanctioning bodies – is expected to put on another devastating display in Bolton next week.

Germany’s unbeaten middleweight star Denis Radovan makes his UK debut as part of the stacked undercard. The IBF European champion holds wins over North West favourites Luke Blackledge and Brian Rose on his impressive CV, but hopes to win a new army of local fans this time, by putting on a show against former European title challenger Fouad El Massoudi.

The former European and WBC interim world super featherweight champion, Katharina Thanderz continues to work her way back to the top, with a six rounder in Bolton.

Thanderz, from Norway but based in Spain, battled England’s Terri Harper for the IBO and WBC belts in 2020 and the 34-year-old is ready to start making inroads at lightweight.

Thanderz faces the unbeaten and confident Ioana Fecioru over six rounds.

Unbeaten Stockport middleweight Niall Brown faces Manchester’s Bahadur Karami in a derby scrap over six rounds. Brown has established a perfect 7-0 record and will have eyes on climbing the domestic rankings – but knows he cannot afford to slip-up against his local rival.

Manchester prospect Bobby Faulker hasn’t lost a round so far as a professional and hopes to extend his flawless start to the paid ranks in Bolton, in a scheduled four rounder.

Salford lightweight Alex Murphy bolsters the local contingent, by boxing for the seventh time as a pro.

Big support is expected for the professional debut of Mancunian welter Ashley Marron.  Marron will face Birmingham’s Daryl Pearce over four rounds to kick-start his journey.

The Wasserman Boxing card is bolstered by another international star, with the UK debut of Denmark’s Oliver Zaren. Zaren, a 7-0 middleweight southpaw, is highly-rated and squares off against Croatia’s Frane Radnic over six rounds at the University of Bolton Stadium.

Lyndon Arthur vs Braian Suarez, for the IBO World Light Heavyweight Title is live and free-to-air on Channel 5 at 10pm on Friday, March 24.

Tickets are available via WassermanBoxing.com

BACK AND LOOKING TO MAKE A STATEMENT, JARRELL MILLER PLANS ON STOPPING LUCAS BROWNE QUICKLY IN THEIR HEAVYWEIGHT WAR THIS SAT. MARCH 18 IN DUBAI

DUBAI – March 16, 2023 – Outspoken and undefeated New Yorker Jarrell “Big Baby” Miller says he’s going to take former WBA (Regular) Heavyweight Champion Lucas “Big Daddy” Browne out quickly this Saturday, March 18, to prevent the big Australian from landing any late-round magic against him.

WBA #10 Miller (25-0-1, 21 KOs) and WBA #9 Browne (31-3, 27 KOs) will meet at Agenda arena in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, in the 10-round main event of a stellar show presented by Anatoly Sulyanov of Hardcore Boxing that also features a 10-round super featherweight co-main event between Dublin Ireland’s WBA #5- and IBF #11-rated former world title challenger Jono “King Kong” Carroll (23-2-1, 7 KOs) and three-time world title challenger Miguel “The Scorpion” Marriaga (30-6, 26 KOs).

Also broadcast that night will be a 10-round cruiserweight battle between fast-tracking former amateur star Soslan “Cobra” Asbarov (3-0, 1 KO) of Chapaevo and once-beaten American Brandon Glanton (17-1, 14 KOs).

Retaining his gift for great quotes after four years of inactivity, Miller, a former WBO-NABO and WBA-NABA Champion, had plenty to say about his upcoming fight, as well as about other top heavyweights and on his own personal growth through the many challenges he faced during his down time.

On Training Camp:

Training was great. This was my first official training camp (since returning). I didn’t have everything I wanted in this camp, because I was kind of getting a rhythm and organizing things. I’ve been out of the game for a while. By next camp, I will know how I like things again.

On Lucas Browne:

He’s a big guy. He’s durable for a certain number of rounds and has a good overhand right. But technically and fundamentally, he’s nowhere near me. I know I’m stronger. I know I’m faster. I‘m younger. I have an amazing jab. My IQ in boxing is phenomenal. Everything he does, I do a million times better. But he’s game. That’s all that matters in the fight game. One punch in the heavyweight division anything can happen, so I did not sleep on him.

How He Sees the Browne Fight Unfolding:

I’m thinking it will go four rounds or less. I’m not trying to play with him and I’m not going to give him an opportunity to land that right hand. He fought Junior Fa and Junior didn’t realize what he walked into. I see him as a slow starter who gets beat up a lot and then in seven or eight rounds, he lands a right hand that gets guys out of there. My goal is to not let it go 10 rounds. I got head movement and a good, stiff jab. Once I get him hurt, I will go in there and send him home. I’m definitely going to knock him out in the early rounds of the fight. It could be a combination or just one punch, but I know I’m going to stop him.

On His Continued Weight Loss:

For my last fight, I came in at 340. I’m down to 325. I look a lot leaner than 325, but I’ve been relearning my body over again. I’m a couple years older now and I’m relearning how to eat and diet. I feel amazing. I never was a drinker, and I don’t smoke at all, so I’m just learning what to put in my body now that I’m a little older. I’ve learned how to eat clean for myself.

Is He the Same Fighter He Was Four Years Ago?

Honestly, I don’t 100% know the answer to that. This is the first game opponent I have fought (in the last four years). I still talk shit and back it up, but am I the same fighter? No. I don’t think so. I think every year, a person evolves. You have to become a little different and a little better.

What Did He Learn During His Four Years Away:

I think mentally I have learned how to let certain things go. I’ve learned how to read people differently; I have a better understanding with myself spiritually in a way. I’ve gone through other struggles away from boxing, outside the ring. Dealing with a divorce, not seeing my kids, so the hunger is still there (to fight). I just need to be realistic with myself, know when to criticize myself and know what I need to work on. Being a better human being of course, but understanding what my strengths are what my weaknesses are. This fight is going to show me what I need to work on, but at the same time I’m going in for the kill regardless.

They say you can never be a man if you’ve never gone through adversity in your life and I’ve always gone through so much outside of boxing. (The failed drug tests) That’s probably the first issue I’ve gone through in boxing. It taught me a lot about the people I had in my corner and the people I really thought had my back. I had to really stand on my feet firm and really believe in myself and have faith in God that I could come through anything.

I’ve got a great team now, including my long-time promoter Greg Cohen who is here with me, and I’m ready to get what’s mine.

On Anthony Joshua Not Being Who People Once Thought He Was:

I’m good at reading people. I said that Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Boxing did a great job of marketing him and selling him this whole BS story of who he was. But I can read people. I knew he was full of shit and after I pushed him, he was never the same. Andy (Ruiz) kind of took advantage of that and he did what he did. Now it’s my turn to get what I’ve lost.

On Heavyweight Prospect Jared Anderson Calling Himself ‘The Real Big Baby.’

I think it’s cute, but anybody that has to call themself “The Real Big Baby,” that should tell all they got to say. That’s corny as hell. ‘I’m the real Anthony Joshua!’ You know what I mean? Trying to be the person you’re not. He did that on purpose too. He’s younger and I got way more experience. Everybody knows I’m the original Big Baby and there’s only one Big Baby.

He (Anderson) ain’t fighting nobody. They want to fight cruiserweights. He’s calling out Andrew Tabiti. The guy is not even a real heavyweight. That tells you the kind of enthusiasm behind this guy and the belief they have in him.

Is He Looking To Fight Anderson Soon?

Not yet. Listen, if they… I would love to fight him. I’ll fight him right now. I’ll fight him tomorrow if they really want to talk that game, but I know him, and his team don’t want none of that smoke at all. I know his manager James Prince will tell him to stay away from ‘The One and Only Big Baby.’ I think the time for that will come, but if they want it, I’ll definitely give them smoke.

On Fury vs. Usyk:

A lot of people are saying that Tyson is going to beat him up and it’s going to be a one-way fight. First of all, this is boxing. What I can tell you is this. I’m a big fan of Tyson. Me and him talk our regular boxing BS, but if I take my biased opinion out of it, anybody that knows how to box gives Tyson a problem and Usyk is a real technical boxer. So, I don’t see it being a one-sided fight. I think it will be a very technical fight. I don’t think it will be super exciting, but I don’t think it will be a one-sided fight. I do tilt more toward Tyson because he’s a bigger guy and he can be aggressive at times, but I think it will be a lot closer than what people are making it seem.

His Goals for The Future:

My main thing right now is I want to punch Anthony Joshua in the face. That fight needs to still happen. I’m hoping he gets past Jermaine (Franklin). Hopefully we can get it on after this fight. I want to retire him. I want to break his will and his heart, his brain, his eye socket. And I still want to break his nose. That would definitely be the fight I want. But, if not, Daniel Dubois and his team have expressed interest in fighting. I would definitely fight him right after this for the WBA Regular title. Those are the only two fights I really care about, Daniel Dubois and Anthony Joshua.

I am destined to be heavyweight champ of the world, hands down. Period. I just have to stay focused, stay relaxed and be my rambunctious, loud, dynamic self. I got to be me.

On Sparring with Tyson Fury:

Sparring with Tyson taught me I knew where I still stand in this game. Tyson said he dropped me seven times, that’s BS. More like the other way around. I clocked him with some shit.

On Being in Dubai:

I’m loving Dubai. I’ve been a big believer in the Muslim religion for many years. My trainer when I was a kid in the amateurs, he always wanted me to convert and learn more about the culture. Being out here, I’ve been at peace. I see a lot of my friends have moved out here. Just being in a relaxed state of mind and able to focus.

Lastly, On Deontay Wilder:

Wilder is not the same person, mentally. He still has that wonderful, powerful right hand, but there are definitely some kinks in his armor I see. When you believe all the things people around you are telling you and then someone teaches you they’re full of shit, it’s hard for you to believe it. He was talking about how he’s Mike Tyson and a god and a killer and now he sees he’s not that. It was time for him to come off his high horse. Reality teaches you who men are when they are tested. Deontay still has a right hand that could put you to sleep though.

ATTENTION FANS IN DUBAI: Tickets to attend “Hardcore Boxing in Dubai” live can be purchased with cash, Unionpay and Mir cards at the Platinumlist office from 11:00 to 18:00 (Weekdays) at Office 413, 4th floor, Building 4, The Greens, Emaar Business Park, Dubai or online by clicking HERE.

Several more matches are scheduled between local and international prospects and their worthy opponents. On fight night, there is no smoking, parking is available, and no cameras are permitted in the arena.

NEWCASTLE NXTGEN PUBLIC WORKOUT QUOTES

Cyrus Pattinson – Alnwick, England – 5-0, 3 KOs – fighting Chris Jenkins for the vacant WBA International Welterweight Title:

“I’m really excited to headline my first show in Newcastle. Preparations couldn’t have gone any better. It has kind of gone full circle; I was meant to make my professional debut at the Utilita Arena but we’re five fights in now and opponent number six is Chris Jenkins. It’s special to be headlining at the arena. I want to test myself and I don’t want easy fights. Chris was the best name that Matchroom brought to the table. No risk no reward. He had a close tight fight with Tyrone McKenna and a lot of people thought it went the other way. I think he was winning the fight with Florian Marku too. I expect the best, and I want the best, Chris Jenkins. That is what I have trained for. He always brings the heat and he never comes to just make up the numbers. It’s going to be a very entertaining fight. My focus is solely on winning. Any way possible, that’s all I’m thinking about. I can see myself winning in any way. We will see what happens on the night. I just take things one fight at a time. I just focus on one fight at a time. That’s all that matters. After every fight we take a look to see which direction we’re going to go in. I think every fight that I’ve had has been a step up – especially my last few. I’m 29 next month and I want to keep pressing and pushing to see how far I can go and just enjoy the ride.”

Solomon Dacres – Birmingham, England – 5-0, 1 KO – fighting Robert Ismay for the vacant English Heavyweight Title:

“He was just giving it the usual at the workout – ‘you’re going to get knocked out, you’re going to get put to sleep, blah blah blah’. He’s giving it the large one now but it’s all just bravado. You can expect a great performance from me on Saturday. I thrive under these conditions. I train exceptionally hard all of the time. I’ve been sparring top guys like Tyson Fury – I’ve been in his camp. I like to get away and spar so I’m comfortable when I come to fight night. I go in a lot of people’s training camps to spar – top guys like Fury, Joe Joyce and Joseph Parker. It’s another day at the office for me and I’m just really looking forward to putting on a great performance. I don’t think the sparring partners will be the difference in this fight but they will set me apart. I think I have a lot more attributes that make me a level above him anyway. The sparring partners are just another edge to my game where I’ve got top level sparring from the amateurs on Team GB. I think I’ve got all of the advantages going into this. I’m ready for whatever the next progression is after this fight. English to British is a natural progression. I’d love to fight for the British Title, definitely in the next 12 months – that’s my goal anyway. Last year that was my goal, to box for the British Title within 18 months. It’s something I’m looking forward to. Whoever has it, if Fabio Wardley has it or it’s vacant – it’ll be a big dust up whatever it is.

Hopey Price – Leeds, England – 9-0, 3 KOs – fighting Thomas Masson for the vacant WBA Continental Super-Bantamweight Title:

“I’m feeling good and I’m ready to go. I’m chomping at the bit for Saturday night now. I’m in there with a former European Champion and a former World Title challenger. He’s been there and he’s done it, but he’s never been in there with anyone like me. I always say don’t let my baby face fool you. I look young, but this is what I’m in the sport to do. Fighting guys like these, these are the sort of steps that I need to take to get where I want to be. I don’t want to be a World Title challenger; I want to be a World Champion. This is a step in the right direction to fight this type of opponent. He’s 30-odd, he’s tough, he’s durable and he’s been there and done it and seen it all. I’m looking forward to it. It’s time to shine. I’ve been with Matchroom from the beginning of my career and I’m happy to continue working with them. With them behind me this year it’ll really push me on. I’m looking to be one of the best prospects in world boxing by the end of the year. Hopefully after this NXTGEN event here in Newcastle we can go to Leeds later in the year and I can top a NXTGEN show at the First Direct Arena. The future is bright for the Super-Bantamweight division, there’s a lot of young talent coming through. All that means is we’re all going to get paid well, there’ some big domestic dust ups to come in the future. I’ll fight anyone. I won’t call any of them out but I’ll fight every single one of them – that’s just how I am. It’s better for us to have so many options around the same weight. The belts will swap and change won’t they. I believe that the Leeds fans are the best in the world, they really get behind their own. It’s always bouncing there and I want to continue those big nights in Leeds. Get this belt won and then in the future we’ll look to have another big fight back in Leeds.”

Callum French – Gateshead, England – 3-0, 1 KO – fighting Jordan Ellison in an eight round Lightweight contest:

“I’m chuffed to be fighting in Newcastle – home sweet home. Today I’m back in Gateshead for the Public Workout at the Metrocentre and we’re at the Utilita Arena on Saturday. It has been a dream of mine to box there since I was a kid so I’m looking forward to Saturday night. Knowing that I’m fighting in Newcastle has given me that extra little push in training. Obviously all of my friends and family are going to be there so it’s a bit different to boxing in those sports halls in Romania and Uzbekistan. It’s going to be nice to box in front of a home crowd. I’d already boxed in the WSB which was 5 rounds, so I had five of them fights so I was straight up to six rounds for my debut. Now it’s 8 rounders and then we’ll push on. I want to build some momentum this year. I had a bit of a nightmare last year – I was meant to fight in December on the Josh Warrington card but that got pulled at the last minute. I want to build some momentum over the next couple of months. Graeme Rutherford is the man behind the magic at Birtley. Not just in the boxing sense but he guides us through life as well. As a boxing coach he has helped me in and out of the ring. He’s taken us all over the country and helped us improve as a person. He’s taken us to work with him. He’s been a father figure to us all and a massive figure in the community of Birtley as well. He’s taken kids off the street and given them an option and a chance.”

DAVID BENAVIDEZ AND CALEB PLANT MEDIA WORKOUTS QUOTES

LAS VEGAS – March 15, 2023 – Undefeated former two-time WBC Super Middleweight Champion David “The Mexican Monster’’ Benavídez and former IBF Super Middleweight Champion Caleb Plant held separate media workouts on Tuesday to preview their high-stakes, 12-round showdown headlining live on SHOWTIME PPV on Saturday, March 25 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas in an event presented by Premier Boxing Champions.

Benavídez held his media workout at his gym in the Seattle area, while Plant showed off his skills in Las Vegas with just over a week until they meet in the ring on fight night.

Tickets for the live event, which is promoted by TGB Promotions and Sampson Boxing, are on sale now and can be purchased HERE through AXS.com.

Benavidez was joined by stablemate and lightweight contender Jose Valenzuela, who faces Chris Colbert on the pay-per-view undercard, and his father and trainer Jose Benavidez Sr at Benavidez Sports Boxing Gym in Burien, Washington. Plant’s workout also included his renowned trainer Stephen “Breadman” Edwards as they hosted media at DLX Boxing in Plant’s adopted hometown of Las Vegas.

Here is what the workout participants had to say Tuesday:

DAVID BENAVIDEZ

“Some people don’t understand that I’m the most accurate puncher in this weight class. I’ve had 23 knockouts in 26 fights. I’ve hurt every man I’ve been in the ring with and Caleb Plant is no different.

“You can see that every time Caleb is in the ring with a power puncher, he’s not comfortable. He beat Jose Uzcategui but he was hurt in the fight and then Canelo hurt him. Even Anthony Dirrell hit him with good shots, and he’s not a hitter like that.

“I’ve got the power and I feel like I’m faster. I just have to get my feet in the right position, because he’s going to be moving a lot. I think he has a little bit more confidence after beating Dirrell though, so we’ll see if he wants to trade with me.

“Every time I step into this gym I give my all. I’ve got a great team here with me. Everybody has done their part and made me feel comfortable. I’m just so motivated by the people who think that I can’t handle a boxer and I’m ready to prove them wrong.

“I’m a big guy and I throw punches in bunches. I’m ready to mix it up in there. Every question you all have will be answered on March 25.

“My jab is better than Caleb’s. He doesn’t really have a power jab, but I hurt people with my jab. I’ve cut eyelids open with it. I’m very comfortable in there. At the end of the day, what is he gonna do when he has to sit there and fight? I’m gonna get him on the ropes. It’s a matter of when, not if.

“Emotion, especially anger, is a great motivator to train. The people who are telling me not to be emotional, haven’t laced up the gloves before. I couldn’t be more ready. I leave all my emotions outside of the ring when it’s time to go to work.

“This is pay-per-view and we’re giving the people what they want to see. I’m ready to give the people whatever they want. This is the most confident I’ve ever been because this is the hardest I’ve ever worked. That’s why I’ve been calling for these big fights, because I’ve known since I was a little kid sparring world champions that when I’m put in an uncomfortable situation, the best comes out of me.”

CALEB PLANT

“The key to this fight is just being myself. That’s what’s getting my hand raised. I’m hungry for this. This is a big moment and a moment I’ve worked a long time to reach. I’m going to make the most of it.

“I feel really good. Last camp we brought in ‘Breadman’ and we had a lot of great chemistry with the whole team. He’s easy to get along with and he just expects me to work hard. That’s right up our alley and that’s what we like to do. He brought some of that Philly grit with him and helped reiterate a lot of things that my dad [co-trainer Richie Plant] had been trying to instill in me.

“Different people handle things in different ways. I’m cool, calm and collected. I’m focused and I’ve had a great camp. We’re going into this fight 100%. I can only speak for my team, but we’re ready to handle business.

“If Benavidez wants to come forward, then he should just handle his business how he sees fit. That’s what I’m going to do on March 25. We’re going to get in there, roll the dice and see what happens.

“My power has always been there but I’ve been getting more back to my roots. ‘Breadman’ and my dad have a lot of similarities in how they want me to box and train. With some of it, I’m getting back to my old ways, but it’s combined with the new things that ‘Breadman’ is bringing to the table and teaching me.

“This is one of the biggest fights that can be made in boxing and I’m just looking forward to everyone being a part of it.

“I’d love to right a wrong and get the rematch with Canelo Alvarez, but right now I’m just focused on the fight in front of me. Nothing happens until business is handled March 25.”

JOSE VALENZUELA

“I learned from my mistakes and I’m gonna come back right. Chris Colbert is a smart fighter and I think it’s a perfect matchup for this card.

“I know what I did wrong and I accepted it. I have to keep moving forward. I’ve got a great team around me and we stayed positive.

“I wasn’t looking for an easy way out coming in off a loss. I didn’t get here the easy way, so I’m going to keep doing it the hard way.

“I’m gonna be bringing in a new set of skills. I’m ready to show the cat-like reflexes. I’ll be on my toes fighting intelligently. I’m gonna be sharp.

“I think David is going to stop Caleb around the eighth round. He’s got the skills, the heart and the determination to finish the fight.”

JOSE BENAVIDEZ SR., Benavidez’s Father and Trainer

“This training camp is very special because our whole family has been together. It’s super special and we’re super motivated. It’s a great atmosphere here.

“We’re training hard not just to win the fight, but to look spectacular and get to even bigger fights. I believe that David is gonna stop Caleb Plant in the eighth or ninth round.”

STEPHEN “BREADMAN” EDWARDS, Plant’s Trainer

“It’s going to take a great fighter to win this fight on March 25. I believe Caleb has the potential to become a great fighter and March 25 will help determine that.

“Caleb’s ability to absorb information really translates well in the ring. Both of these guys are in their prime and there’s a lot at stake. You have to be great to win a fight like this. This fight has a little bit of Oscar De La Hoya vs. Felix Trinidad and Floyd Mayweather vs. Diego Corrales. Caleb being the Oscar and Floyd and David being the Corrales and Trinidad.

“When it comes to the relationship Caleb and I have, we didn’t have to work hard to get chemistry, it just came. I like the way he goes about things and vice versa. He was willing to listen. He’s a hard worker and very organized and has a strong support system. He does what he needs to do. I don’t have to pull teeth with him. All I have to do is coach to his strengths.”
