Omar Choudri Debut Rescheduled for 11-15.

After honing in on his pro debut for nearly six months, tough 30-year-old Brooklynite Omar Choudri looks to prove that age is just a number in the ring as he gets set for a late pro start against the gritty Albany, NY native Donyell Dukes.

Being involved in a number of gym-wars as a sparring partner for the very best including Peter Quillin, Will Rosinsky, and Marcus Browne, Choudri’s boxing notoriety peaked far before he got the proper tools and guidance to fabricate a lasting career. Now, with many behind him (and many doubting him), Choudri plans to act on the words he muttered as a barely-teenaged boy after watching Muhammad Ali light the torch at the ’96 Atlanta Olympics — “I’m going to be a champion”.

In an interview with ESPN New York Boxing writer Michael Woods, Choudri proudly stated “If Bernard Hopkins can do it at 48, if Sergio Martinez can do it at 38 … I’ve seen guys better than Floyd Mayweather in gyms, but they didn’t make it, and they won’t do better than me, because they don’t have my heart,” he says. “Not even God can go against you if you’re determined enough.”

Just as the winless Donnie Dukes isn’t Sergio Martinez; Omar Choudri, fortunately, isn’t 48-years-old like Bernard Hopkins — where 1/1,000 fighters don’t even triumph to half the extent of Hopkins. One must sense at 30-years-old the window is already dimming, but common estimates fall short commonly enough, while dedication, devotion, as well as a split-second wake up call or two can make all the difference.

His first fight is signed and sealed for the 5 Star Banquet Hall in Long Island City, Queens, New York on November 15th. Only about two weeks shy of the fight, training camp hours are increasing and the work load is getting harder. More work here, less work in the ring is the method of choice.

Tickets are still available for this fight card, presented by Uprising Promotions. In the main event, Greek-American Female Heavyweight Sonya Lamonakis goes against Gwendolyn O’Neil in an eight-round scrap.

Vista, CA’s Aaron Garcia Featured in Main Event!

(San Diego, CA) – Bobby D Presents, the premier San Diego based promoter, returns one more time for 2013 on Thursday, November 21st, to present yet again another night of professional boxing in San Diego, “America’s Finest City”. Led by President Bobby DePhilippis, 2012 California boxing hall of fame inductee, the “San Diego Fights” fight cards are known for their high level of competitiveness, fighter skill and above all, entertainment. After a successful run at the Four Points Sheraton Hotel, Bobby D Presents has secuted a new, more centralized venue at the Crowne Plaza Hanalei Hotel located at the famed Hotel Ci rcle just north of downtown. The last installment of the year of their successful running boxing series will be no exception as it will mark the return to the ring of local favorite Aaron “Gavilan” Garcia (12-3-2, 3KOs) as he faces a stern test in Kevin “Hostile” Hoskins (7-2, 5KOs) of Moreno Valley, CA, in an explosive six rounder in the super featherweight division.

Aaron “Gavilan” Garcia of Vista, CA
Garcia, one of the most decorated amateurs to come out of the county, is on a hot streak with two impressive wins so far this year. In his first last May, after a two years of inactivity, Garcia stopped Cesar Garcia of Ensenada with a crushing body blow in the first round. Not known for his power, it was mentioned that “Gavilan” broke the south of the border fighter’s rib with a left hook/upper cut to the mid-section. In his next fight two months later, Garcia went the much needed rounds with a durable Johnny Frazier winning a shut out unanimous decision in a four rounder. In Hoskins, Garcia will face a tough brawler who is no stranger to San Diego. His last time here last February, Hoskins became the spoiler and stopped previously undefeated Eduardo Rivera in the first round. Rivera, who at the time was 9-0-1. 3KOs), was no match for Hoskins when they both began to exchange heavy leather in the center of the ring. Hoskins was able to land a picture perfect left hook the chin that put Rivera out for commission. Rivera has not fought since. Nothing less than fireworks are expected in the Garcia-Hoskins match up.

In the co-main event, “Superman” Joshua Marks (8-5, 8KOs) of El Centro, CA, will look to get back on the win column when he puts up his fists against Poti, Georgia’s Levan “The Wolf” Ghvamichava (10-1, 8KOs) in a scheduled light welterweight eight rounds. Marks, who has fought twice in San Diego, will have a stern test against Ghvamichava who is suffered his first pro loss in his last fight. Touted as the next best thing to come out of the former Soviet Union, Ghvamichava fell to unheralded Alberto Herrera in a split decision last July. The hard hitting Marks stopped Oscar Godoy in one of the best local fights in San Diego back in early 2012 and his last fight, he was stopped by Bobby D Presents’ Emmanuel Robles. Now Marks has vowed to not only upset the apple cart for Ghvamichava but redeem himself in front of the San Diego crowd.

Featured in very special attraction, the ultra-popular David Barragan (6-0-1, 3KOs) will put his undefeated record on the line when he takes on the much more experienced Arthur Brambila (9-19-1, 4KOs) in his first scheduled six rounder. Barragan took fight of the night honors in his last performance when he defeated former Canadian amateur standout Matt Dumais. Barragan dropped Dumais in the first round and when it looked like he was headed for a quick night, Dumais turned up the heat and turned the super welterweight four rounder into a war. Brambila is looking to ruin the party with his experience that he has gained by facing up and coming prospect Jonathan Chicas, former world champions Antonio DeMarco and Mike Alavaro among others.
Also scheduled are Prince “Tiger” Smalls (1-0-1) against Luis “Chapo” Vargas (1-5-1) in a featherweight four, super bantamweight “Smokin'” Joe Perez (4-0, 3KOs) against Tijuana’s Victor Capaceta (3-4-2, 1KO) and his pro debut, light heavyweight Tony Johnson versus the dreaded TBA.

The Crowne Plaza Hanalei Hotel is located at 2270 Hotel Circle North in San Diego. Tickets are still available at SanDiegoFights.com or by calling 619.420.8866. Doors open at 6:30 with the first punch thrown at 7:30pm.

“San Diego Fights” is proudly sponsored by Mossy Automotive Group, Filippi’s Pizza Grotto, Car Czar, Everlast, David G. Schmidt General Contractor, House of Boxing Gym and Boxing Fraternity Apparel and features the San Diego Bikini Dolls.

Yuri Foreman continues on comeback trail Fighting in ‘Knockout Night at Hard Rock Live’ co-feature

Yuri Foreman
MIAMI (November 6, 2013) – The comeback of former World Boxing Association (WBA) junior middleweight champion Yuri Foreman continues Tuesday night, November 12, 2013 at Hard Rock Live at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida.

Foreman (31-2, 8 KOs), rated No. 14 by the World Boxing Council (WBC), takes on Mexican invader Javier “Pelon’ Gomez (14-11, 10 KOs) in the eight-round co-feature on “Knockout Night at the Hard Rock Live,” presented by Mo Productions.

The 10-round main event showcases Michael “The Brazilian” Rocky” Oliveira (21-1, 16 KOs), rated No. 7 by the WBC and No. 11 by the WBA, against former Mexican welterweight champion Noberto “Demonio” Gonzalez (19-2, 13 KOs).

JULIO CESAR CHAVEZ ATTENDING “KNOCKOUT NIGHT AT THE HARD ROCK LIVE”

Hall of Famer Julio Cesar Chavez has confirmed that he will be attending “Knockout Night at the Hard Rock Live” to closely watch Michael Oliveira in action. The retired six-time, three-division world champion is the father of professional boxers Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr. and Omar Chavez, who is a potential opponent for Oliveira in 2014.

“Knockout Night at the Hard Rock Live,” presented by MO Productions, will air live on SporTV, a Brazilian Sports television broadcaster affiliate to TV Globo Network, and TNC in Argentina.

Nearly four years ago to the day (Nov. 14, 2009) of his upcoming fight, the 33-year-old Foreman dropped Daniel Santos (32-3-1) twice en route to a win by unanimous 12-round decision (117-109 twice, 116-110), to capture the WBA 154-pound title and become one of the few modern-day Jewish world champions.

In 2010, Foreman lost his first title defense to the great Miguel Cotto by ninth-round technical knockout at Yankee Stadium, followed nine-months later by a loss in Las Vegas to New York City rival Pawel Wolak, when Foreman was unable to continue fighting after six rounds.

A consummate boxer whose leg strength is critical, Foreman suffered a knee injury that eventually required surgery, which contributed to his only two losses as a professional. Foreman was out of the ring for nearly two years, returning to win three consecutive decisions over Brandon Baue (DE6), Gundrick King (DEC6) and Jamaal Davis (DEC8) this past July.

“After two years of inactivity,” Foreman explained, “I decided not to rush, taking my time to gradually build myself up to be better than I was before. November 12th is an eight-round fight and, God willing, it will be very successful. Then, it’ll be a 10-rounder and after that, hopefully, I will be positioned once again for a world title fight.”

An aspiring rabbi, Foreman was born in Belarus, moved to Israel, and resides in Brooklyn, New York. He has taken an obvious liking to South Florida.

“This fight is a great opportunity for me in terms of the location,” Foreman said. “South Florida has one of the largest Jewish communities in the US, so it’s important for me to fight there and win impressively. I recently visited South Florida to promote my November 12th fight and, I must say, the Jewish community was very supportive. I want to put on a great fight for them.”

Undefeated light heavyweight Yunieski “The Diamond” Gonzalez (12-0, 8 KOs), a former member of the Cuban National Boxing Team, faces former WBC FECARBOX champion Jinner Guerrero (7-1, 6 KOs), of Ecuador, in a 10-round bout.

In scheduled six-round bouts are unbeaten Cuban featherweight Hairon “El Maja” Socarras (7-0, 5 KOs) vs. former world title challenger Jhon Alberto Molina (32-26-3, 20 KOs) and Bahamian lightweight Valentino Knowles (1-0) vs. TBA (opponent to be announced). Knowles was a silver medalist in the 2011 Pan-American Games.

Also fighting on the undercard in four-round matches are Cuban super middleweight Vilier Quinones (5-0, 3 KOs), a former World Junior Championships gold medalist, vs. Mrcus Brooks (7-15-1, 3 KOs), heavyweight prospect and 2008 Cuban Olympian Robert Alfonso (2-0) vs. Jamal “Knockout” Woods (3-8-1, 3 KOs), Egyptian light heavyweight Ahmed Elbiali (2-0, 2 KOs) vs. Borngod Washington (3-13, 1 KO), and West Palm Beach cruiserweight Steve Geffard (0-2) vs. Lamont Capers (1-2). Oliveira, Gonzalez, Socarras, Knowles, Quinines, Alfonso and Elbiali are all fighting out of Miami. All fights and fighters are subject to change.

Tickets cost $79, $29 and $19*, all seats are reserved and available to purchase at Ticketmaster outlets online at www.myhrl.com, ticketmaster.com or charge by phone: 1-800-745-3000. *Additional fees may apply. Tickets are also available to purchase at the Brizilian Rocky Fight Club in Miami (7500 NW 25th St., Unit 4 – 305-436-0210).

Doors open at 6 p.m. ET with the first bout scheduled for 7 p.m. / ET.

World Series of Fighting signs “The Ultimate Figther 18” competitor Cody Bollinger

World Series of Fighting is proud to announce the addition of Cody “Bam Bam” Bollinger (14-2) to the company’s bantamweight roster.

The 22-year-old Californian signed a multi-fight deal with World Series of Fighting and is expected to debut for the promotion in early 2014.

“Cody is an extremely talented fighter, and we’re thrilled to have him on board with our company,” World Series of Fighting President Ray Sefo said. “Cody has recently endured some tough times in his career, but we believe he is highly skilled and has a bright future in front of him. I can’t wait to see what he can accomplish in the World Series of Fighting decagon.”

Despite his young age, Bollinger has been competing professionally for seven years. Bollinger’s father signed a waiver for him to make his professional debut in 2006 at just 15 years old. He’s since built an impressive 14-2 mark, including five wins by submission and another four by knockout.

Most recently, Bollinger was a contestant on “The Ultimate Fighter 18,” where he defeated Rafael de Freitas to earn his way on to the show. However, he failed to make weight for his next fight with Anthony Gutierrez and was eliminated from the show.

“It is not every day that one finds himself living a dream that turns into a nightmare,” Bollinger wrote in his Revgear Sports blog. I knew heading into the show that this was going to be the hardest weight cut of my career. … I missed weight and have zero excuses about it, I didn’t adjust well enough to the situation I was put in and paid for that tremendously.”

Bollinger will now get a second chance to make a first impression.

“When one dream ends, you make the shift to chase a new one,” Bollinger said.

BATTLE FOR BROOKLYN GABRIEL BRACERO VS. DMITRIY SALITA ULTIMATE CROSSROADS-NEIGHBORHOOD BATTLE

New York, NY (11/6/13) – They grew up on opposite sides of the County of Kings, and come from completely different spectrums of life. One an Orthodox Jew and the other a Puerto Rican-American, who grew up getting in trouble with gangs, eventually serving a six-year prison sentence. They each took to boxing at a very young age, and a matchup between the two has been talked about since both were competing in the NY Golden Gloves many years ago.

On November 9, their worlds will finally collide when Gabriel “Tito” Bracero (22-1, 4KO’s) and Dmitriy “Star of David” Salita (35-1-1, 18KO’s) square off in a 10-round crossroads welterweight showdown at the Aviator Sports and Events Center in Brooklyn, NY. The much anticipated bout is being promoted by DiBella Entertainment, in association with Star of David Promotions, and will be the feature bout of the evening on this special-edition Saturday Broadway Boxing.

“I am very excited sitting here today. I literally have the chills I am that excited. This has been a fight that has been talked about for a very long time,” stated Bracero at the initial press conference to announce the anticipated matchup.

“This is a true crossroads, NYC neighborhood battle. There hasn’t been a fight this big here in a very long time. I have a lot of respect for Gabe, I know what type of fighter he is, I know he is a warrior, but I am very focused and there is no doubt in my mind that I will come out victorious come November 9,” said the former world-title challenger Salita.

Bracero echoed similar sentiments on the importance of the bout for both fighters’ careers.

“I have known Dmitriy for many years. Outside of the ring, we are friends, but come November 9, that all goes out the window. It’s business time. November 9 is an opportunity for both of us. We are both in our thirties and we both have one loss on our records. This is an important fight not only for me and Dmitriy, but for the fans. This is an opportunity for me not to only make a statement, but to move on to the next level. I have been waiting for this opportunity for a very long time. I am very confident and there is no doubt in my mind that I will be handling my business come November 9.

The winner of the bout on Saturday night takes a major step toward a significant fight in the loaded 140-147lb. divisions. A loss will be absolutely devastating for their careers.

Tickets are currently on sale and are priced at $125, $85, $65 and $45, and can be purchased by calling the DiBella Entertainment office at (212) 947-2577. Only a limited number of tickets are currently left at each price point so act fast as this event will be sold out!

Peter ‘Kid Chocolate’ Quillin Searching for defining fight

Peter Quillin
NEW YORK CITY (November 6, 2013) – Held prisoner because of the boxing network war, undefeated World Boxing Organization (WBO) middleweight champion Peter “Kid Chocolate” Quillin (30-0, 22 KOs) is still searching for his career defining fight.

The 30-year-old Quillin, fighting out of Brooklyn, is the only top-rated 160-pounder aligned with Showtime. The marquee-name middleweights, Sergio Martinez (WBC/Ring Magazine champion) and Gennady Golovkin (WBA), fight exclusively on rival HBO.

Quillin relishes the opportunity to fight any of the top rated middleweights, but he also understands the politics of boxing and the situation it has presently placed him in. “It’s not up to me who I fight,” Quillin said. “If the money is right, I’m up for fighting any of the top names, especially Martinez and Golovkin, but everybody’s aware of what’s going on behind the scenes (Showtime vs. HBO). My job is to work hard and be ready. I have the most powerful team in boxing (Golden Boy Promotions, adviser Al Haymon, co-managers John Seip and Jim McDevitt) and they get me the best available deals. I’m not worried about who I’m fighting. They come to me with my fights.”

Here’s how Quillin breaks down the top middleweights in the world, not listed in any particular order:

Sergio Martinez: “He is the one everybody has as No. 1 in the middleweight division. Martinez has fought some very exciting fights. He’s a showman in the ring.”

Gennady Golovkin: “A power puncher. Golovkin brings power into the ring and gets a lot of knockouts.”

Darren Barker (IBF champion): “He always puts his best foot forward and always tries as hard as possible. Barker and I would bring a lot of fireworks into the ring.”

Daniel Geale: “Another exciting fighter who bangs with the best. It worked for a while against Barker.”

Felix Sturm: “I haven’t seen too much of him. I hope Sturm pursues more fights to make the middleweight division even tougher than it is right now.”

Martin Murray: “He is determined and exciting. I can’t take anything away from Murray.”

Peter Quillin: “A very exciting guy always looking for new ways to win. He has power, showmanship and a lot of smarts in the ring.”

Quillin recently overcame personal heartache in his second title defense victory, by 10th round technical knockout over a game Gabriel Rosado, who suffered a serious cut over his eye that resulted in the fight being halted on the advice of the ring doctor. While he was in the middle of training camp in Los Angeles, Quillin’s wife, Allison, suffered a miscarriage five months into her pregnancy. She was home in New York City.

“I struggled with it,” Quillin admitted. “I was obligated to camp, 3000 miles away, and she had to go through it without me being there to comfort her. We’re praying together and I’m working on being more compassionate.”

Quillin is already back in the gym, going through light workouts and yoga. “I took a week off and bought my dream car (red Corvette Stingray),” he added. “I get depressed when I’m not working out. My wife goes to work and I’m all alone. I need to be active to be productive, so I went right back into the gym. My dad taught me how to clear my head. Polish Action Hero ‘Diablo’ Wlodarczyk Fight Nominated for “Fight of the Year” and “Dramatic Fight of the Year” by WBC

At the third day of 51st WBC Convention in Bangkok, Thailand, the WBC announced that WBC Cruiserweight Champion Krzysztof “Diablo” Wlodarczyk’s dramatic come-from-behind victory over Rakhim Chakhkiev, last June at the Dynamo Palace of Sports in Krylatskoye, Moscow, Russia, has been nominated for Fight of the Year” and “Dramatic Fight of the Year”.

Making the fifth defense of his title, Wlodarczyk came off the canvas to drop Chakhkiev, a gold medalist 2008 Beijing Olympics, in round six, seven and eight, before finally gaining the stoppage in round eight. The fight was a sensational back-and-forth war, which teetered on the brink of victory for both men at different times.

Wlodarczyk (48-2-1, 34 KOs) will return to action on Friday, December 6, at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago when he defends his title against former champion Giacobbe “Gabibbo” Fragomeni (31-3-2, 12 KOs).

HEAVYWEIGHT DAVID RODRIGUEZ SIGNS PROMOTIONAL PACT WITH MAIN EVENTS

TOTOWA, NJ – Main Events officially announced they have signed a promotional contract with undefeated Texas heavyweight David “Nino” Rodriguez, 36-0, 34 KOs. The hard-hitting Mexican-American is riding a nine-bout knockout streak, and after an almost two-year layoff from the sport, and is eager to get back into the mix.

Rodriguez began his pro career in 1998 with 18 straight KOs. Of those, 17 knockouts came in round one. In his entire career, only two men have managed to make it to the final bell against Rodriguez, and just one other foe escaped round three. Rodriguez has destroyed everyone else within the first three rounds. When “Nino” fights, there are fireworks. In all, Rodriguez has a 94% KO percentage.

This promising heavyweight’s career – and life – almost came to an end on December 30, 2011 when he was knifed outside of a restaurant in Scottsdale, Arizona. The brutal attack required 369 stitches to mend and left a large scar on the side of his face, from ear to chin. His return to the ring was sidelined again after suffering a knee injury requiring surgery while preparing for a fight in the summer of 2012. Now, healed mentally and physically, Rodriguez is ready to take on all comers.

David Rodriguez said, “Through God I was given a second chance at life, and through Main Events I was given a second chance at a career. I’m deeply humbled and grateful for the opportunity. I finally feel like I’m in good hands and the sky is the limit. Thank you to my advisor Luis Decubas Jr, my manager Rick Pineda and the rest of my team, Rafael Garcia, Bob Santos, Rodney Crisler.” He added “Thank you Main Events for believing in me. It’s time to bring excitement back to the heavyweight division.”

The El Paso native has collected five regional titles in his career, including the WBC FECOMBOX and NABA heavyweight belts. Now with those accomplishments under his belt and his undefeated record intact, the six-foot, four-inch Rodriguez is ready to make his move up the heavyweight ladder.

“David has made it clear that his intention is to step up in 2014 and take on everyone at the top of the heavyweight division,” said promoter Kathy Duva of Main Events. “David has the personality, the looks and the punch to be a big star. It will be Main Events’ job to give him the opportunities necessary for him to reach his goal of becoming the heavyweight champion of the world.”

Rodriguez’ advisor is Luis Decubas Jr and he managed by Rick Pineda. He is hoping to make his return to the ring as a Main Events fighter before the end of the year.

TWO EXCITING FIGHTS SET FOR NBC BROADCAST TV NOVEMBER 16TH – TURNING STONE RESORT CASINO

tomasz-adamek
VERONA, NY – An exciting pair of fights will be broadcast on network TV by NBC, Saturday afternoon, November 16th, from the Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, NY. The old school afternoon offering pits two battle-tested heavyweights with reputations for delivering high-action performances. Tomasz Adamek and Czar Glazkov meet in the 10-round crossroads main event. An interesting 8-round fight between undefeated rising lightweights Karl Dargan and Michael Brooks fills out the coveted co-feature slot. The NBC Fight Night broadcast will begin at 2:30PM ET.

Former two-time world champion, Tomasz “Goral” Adamek, 49-2, 29 KOs, is still going strong after 14 years in the ring, and again finds himself just one impressive win away from another shot at the world heavyweight championship. Polish-born Adamek never disappoints boxing fans with his heavy hands, granite chin and insatiable thirst for battle. Before he can return to a world title fight, Tomasz must first handle Glazkov, a younger fighter who intends to end his storied run.

Adamek has other ideas, “Glazkov knows that sparring with me is totally different than fighting me. I know he wants to replace me, but I worked too hard, it will not happen.”

On the other side of the ring, rising young gun, Vyacheslav “Czar” Glazkov, 15-0-1, 11 KOs, is ready to topple his seasoned foe in his own march toward a heavyweight title opportunity. Czar has displayed plenty of punching power and is confident that he can defeat the former champ.

Said Glazkov, “I’ve been training very hard for this bout and definitely know it won’t be easy because Adamek is a very skillful and tough veteran. As an upcoming prospect I will do whatever it takes and fight til the end to win this fight.” He added, “I understand this win would open a gate for me into deep waters of the heavyweight division. This is important and I don’t intend to waste this opportunity.”

The heavyweight division has started to come back to life over the last couple years and this matchup has the potential to be the most exciting of the bunch. “We know this will be a straightforward battle between two pros who pack a punch and never take a step backwards. Glazkov has the better knockout credentials, but Adamek’s world-class experience cannot be underestimated,” said Kathy Duva of Main Events.

The NBC Fight Night boxing series has always been a proving ground for rising young talent eager to make a name for themselves. This is certainly the case with the hotly anticipated 8-round lightweight contest that hits the airwaves just before Adamek-Glazkov goes live. In their first taste of national TV exposure, Karl Dargan and Michael Brooks are ready to place the boxing world on notice that they are the next big thing at 135. However, only one fighter can advance.

Philly’s Karl “Dynamite” Dargan, 13-0, 7 KOs, was a celebrated amateur who has been coming into his own as a professional. He has easily handled each of his assignments since his first pro start in 2007, and never looked better than in his most recent time out. He’ll look to impress again, this time before more than a million boxing fans watching on NBC.

Long Island lefty Michael Brooks, 10-0-1, 2 KOs, displays a confidence that was built on life lessons he learned both in and out of the ring. Brooks, who works with disadvantaged kids, once said in an interview that he feels destined to become a lightweight Rocky Marciano. If Brooks is right, Dargan may be in trouble on November 16th.

The sought-after co-feature spot on NBC’s afternoon Fight Night broadcasts has proven to be a launching pad for lesser known prospects. Just one year ago, a then-unknown Czar Glazkov burst onto the scene with a showy TKO against Tor Hamer in the 8-round opening bout on the Adamek-Cunningham NBC card. In the Fury-Cunningham opener in April, Curtis Stevens decisioned Derrick Findley giving him the exposure he needed to secure a high-profile fight with middleweight king Gennady “GGG” Golovkin.

Speaking of this tremendous opportunity for Dargan and Brooks, promoter Kathy Duva said, “We really enjoy the opportunity that we have on these NBC broadcast shows to expose young fighters to a much larger audience than would typically see their fights at this stage of their careers. I can’t wait to see what these undefeated boxers will show the world on November 16th.”

No matter who comes out on top in the two terrific bouts scheduled for November 16th, it is a sure bet that the biggest winners on November 16th will be the boxing fans watching, both at ringside and at home on NBC.

ABOUT NOVEMBER 16th:

The main event and co-feature will be broadcast 2:30PM ET on NBC as a special 2 hour afternoon presentation of NBC Fight Night. The card is presented by Main Events and co-promoted by Ziggy Promotions and Pushka.

Arce_Rojas_120609_001a

“It took me a long time to analyze the situation,” Arce said. “I feel that my body is still responding well and with the support of my family and my promoter [Zanfer’s Fernando Beltran], I have decided to give it one more chance.

“My career is over. He is the best man,” Arce said of his career and about his pal Donaire after the fight. “I have a family to take care of. I promised them I would leave the ring if I lost. He’s very good. I am proud to have lost to the best. It fills me with honor.

GUNN AND JONES JR. BATTLE IN ‘WINNER TAKES ALL’ TITLE FIGHT

royjones2
To increase the growing intensity of their upcoming WBU Cruiserweight Title fight, former boxing champions Bobby “The Celtic Warrior” Gunn and Roy Jones Jr. have announced that their bout will be a winner takes all contest, meaning the fighter who earns the belt that night will earn the complete purse.

These types of stakes are often found in bare knuckle boxing, which Gunn is no stranger to. Two years ago Gunn fought in the first sanctioned BKB match in over 123 years, winning the heavyweight title of the world. On December 3, 2013 from the Sands Casino in Bethlehem, PA, he will look to add the squared circle world belt to his trophy case, being the only fighter to possess both bare knuckle and gloved boxing titles simultaneously since the late John L. Sullivan.
About the winner takes all bout, Gunn stated, “By doing this it shows everybody in the world how important and how much this fight means to me. I’m not coming in for any other reason than to win this fight and win big with a knockout.”
In his last two bouts Gunn faced former world champions Tomasz Adamek and James Toney, losing in a controversial stoppage to Adamek and suffering a broken hand in the battle with Toney, and now will add former pound-for-pound champion and future Hall of Famer Roy Jones Jr. to his impressive fight resume.
“Roy is a class act in and out of the ring and it is a privilege and honor to beat him, but that being said, this is my time, and I plan to capture the WBU Title in what I expect to be a very exciting and fan-friendly matchup,” said Gunn.
Both Gunn and Jones Jr. have lived decorated careers inside the ring, and have established themselves as top fighters. Come December 3 they won’t be fighting to move up the rankings, or to earn sponsorship deals…they will be fighting for one reason, to claim the WBU Cruiserweight Title.
“I’ve never been more focused and ready for a fight, and I know this is my time to shine and knockout Roy,” said Gunn. “There can only be one…Gunn.”
Bobby Gunn and Roy Jones Jr. meet December 3 at the Sands Casino in Bethlehem, PA for the WBU Cruiserweight Title. The fight will be aired on internet TV and international PPV with details to come.

Bradley – Marquez does over 375,000 PPV buys

Bradley_Marquez_131012_002a
The October 12th Welterweight title bout that saw Timothy Bradley score a split decision over Juan Manuel Marquez did a reported in excess of 375, 000 Pay Per View buys according to Dan Rafael of espn.com

“The number of buys is between 375,000 and 390,000,” said Top Rank Promoter Bob Arum. “It depends on a lot of stuff, some of the cable numbers which we don’t fully have yet. But based on our history of doing pay-per-views, I think it will go closer to 390,000. It will definitely hit 375,000 and even a few months later we still get additional buys that come in.”

“I’m confident we did over 375,000, closer to 390,000, but Todd thinks it’s 375,000. Either way, it was a successful promotion that made money,” Arum said.

“The closed circuit did extraordinarily well, which was a big plus,” Arum said. “At the end of the day, [Top Rank] made over $2 million on the fight.”

The fight generated a gate of $2,998,950 from 10,683 tickets sold. There were 1,370 complimentary tickets given away and 5,649 tickets went unsold.

Abdusalamov suffered stroke while in coma

According to Dan Rafael of espn.com, injured Heavyweight Magomed Abdusalamov suffered a stroke while in a mediically induced coma.

“He is recovering from a stroke and he’s on a machine that’s keeping him alive,” Nathan Lewkowicz, vice president of his father Sampson Lewkowicz’s promotional company, Sampson Boxing, which promotes Abdusalamov, told ESPN.com on Tuesday. “He is getting better according to the doctors as he doesn’t have a temperature like he did on Sunday.”

“We didn’t want to say anything about it but someone told the New York Post about it, so I decided to confirm it,” Lewkowicz said.

“The worst part about [Monday’s] hospital visit though was seeing his 11-month-old daughter continually saying ‘Da Da.’ As a new father, that was absolutely heartbreaking,” Lewkowicz said.

“We are going to do what we need to do for Magomed,” Sampson Lewkowicz said. “He and his family are going to need our help. He is going to need financial assistance for the medical bills for his treatment and for his family, who are faced with an urgent financial crunch from this terrible accident.

“We cannot, as a boxing family, turn our backs on the brave men and women who compete in our sport when they need us most. We are going to do everything possible to help him get back on his feet. Magomed will never fight again, but he is a good man and a brave man with a nice family. We are going to make sure they all pull through this intact. That is the right thing to do. Every dollar will help.”

2012 U.S. OLYMPIAN JOSE RAMÍREZ SELLS OUT BOXING HOMECOMING!

FRESNO, CALIF. (November 5, 2013) – Undefeated lightweight contender Jose Ramírez returns home to the Central Valley, headlining a sold-out boxing event — “Fight for Water” — Saturday, November 9. The 11-time National Champion, 2012 U.S. Olympian and all-time USA Boxing lightweight record holder will be battling Erick Hernandez Perez (4-4-1, 2 KOs), of Batesville, AK. Their fight will be featured as the main event on the nationally-televised Solo Boxeo Tecate on UniMás, beginning at Midnight ET/11:00 p.m. PT. Ramírez (6-0, 4 KOs), of Avenal, Calif., returning to the area where he grew up, will fight at the Golden Eagle Arena on the campus of West Hills College, in Lemoore, Calif. The homecoming event has been sold out for three weeks, including VIP tables and major sponsors.

“Jose Ramírez is one of the brightest stars in boxing and he certainly represents a great deal in the future of boxing. It is wonderful to see Fresno area fans rally to see this young athlete. They will have plenty to cheer about not only on November 9 but in the months and years ahead,” said Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum, CEO of Top Rank.

“I’m looking forward to it,” said Ramírez, “It’s going to be a big fight, and every aspect of the event is big. I’m very excited to be a part of this and be able give back to my fans, my family and the people who live here as well as the sponsors who have supported my career.” .

A news conference on Thursday, November 7 will be held at Tachi Palace Casino at 3:00 p.m. PT, followed by an invitation-only dinner featuring Hall of Fame announcer Michael Buffer.

The Official Weigh-in will take place Friday, November 8, 3:00 p.m. PT, also at Tachi Palace Casino.

“I want to thank Tachi Palace Casino and its entire staff. Without them we would not have been able to make this fight happen. They really stepped up to support Jose and the Central Valley and believed in us,” said Rick Mirigian, Ramírez’s agent.

The fight card has been called “Fight for Water” because Ramírez wants to help make a difference in farm-related employment and the families who lost their jobs when water supplies were reduced. Ramírez recently joined the Latino Water Coalition, which aims to help resolve the state’s water crisis and to promote economic growth in the area where he grew up.

Mirigian said naming the event was a no-brainer. “Jose and his family struggled first hand when the water didn’t flow, and times got even harder for his family, who relied on the field work and farming industry. It is important that the public knows that no matter how big a fight he has or will ever have, that the biggest fight to be won is the ‘Fight for Water.’ ”

In addition to hosting the press conference and the weigh in, Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino will also host a special champions dinner, pre and post fight activities that include meet and greets with Ramírez, promotions and more. They will have a roundtrip shuttle running every 20 minutes to the fight which is only five minutes away from the property.

Sampson Lewkowicz, promoter of hospitalized Russian heavyweight Magomed “Mago” Abdusalamov, along with promoters Leon Margules and Lou DiBella, and with help and support of others in the industry, are establishing a fund and to donate and raise funds to help alleviate the financial burden the unfortunate brain injury Abdusalamov suffered Saturday night has placed on him and his family.

32-year-old Abdusalamov had to have emergency surgery to remove a blood clot, and part of his skull had to be removed to reduce swelling, following his brutal 10-round war against Mike Perez at The Theater at Madison Square Garden, on Saturday, November 2. The fight was also broadcast worldwide on HBO.

Mago is currently still in ICU at Roosevelt Hospital in New York.

Abdusalamov’s family, including his wife and father, brothers, and three young children, along with his manager Boris Grinberg are keeping constant vigil at the hospital. He has also been visited by his entire promotional team.

“We are going to do what we need to do for Magomed. He and his family are going to need our help,” said Lewkowicz. “He is going to need financial assistance for the medical bills for his treatment, and for his family who are faced with an urgent financial crunch from this terrible accident.”

Deeply saddened by the unfortunate twist of fate that has befallen his fighter, Lewkowicz says he is happy to have already received so many offers of help, including one from middleweight world champion, Sergio Martinez.

The Magomed Abdusalamov Trust is currently being set up. In the meantime, donations can be made two ways:

Heavy hitters Manfredo and Gingras lock horns in highly-anticipated main event at Twin River

peter_manfredo_jr
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (Nov. 6th, 2013) — The final boxing event of the season at Twin River Casino might just feature the most highly-anticipated main event in years.

“The Pride of Providence” Peter Manfredo Jr. (39-7, 20 KOs) will battle fellow Rhode Island super middleweight Rich Gingras (13-3-1, 8 KOs) in the 10-round main event of “Pride & Power,” presented by Jimmy Burchfield’s Classic Entertainment & Sports on Friday, Nov. 22, 2013.

After beating fellow Contender alum Walter Wright in March, Manfredo will face yet another former contestant from the hit reality television series in Gingras, who competed as a cruiserweight on Season 4 of The Contender in 2008. Since then, Gingras has become a fixture on the New England circuit, beating Rhode Islander Joey Gardner in May and fighting to a controversial draw against Vladine Biosse in July.

Now he’ll face the toughest test of his career against Manfredo Jr., a former International Boxing Organization (IBO) middleweight world champion and former World Boxing Council (WBC) and World Boxing Organization (WBO) title challenger who has become Rhode Island’s most popular fighter since five-time world champion Vinny Paz passed the torch a decade ago.

Ticket for the event are priced at $46, $61, $101 and $161 (VIP) and can be purchased by calling 401-724-2253/2254, online at www.cesboxing.com or www.ticketmaster.com, or at the Players Club at Twin River. All fights and fighters are subject to change.

The undercard of “Pride & Power” features another longtime fan favorite as former four-time world champion Jaime “Hurricane” Clampitt (21-5-1, 7 KOs) of Warwick, R.I., returns from a three-year layoff for one last fight when she faces Brooklyn’s Dominga Olivo (8-8) in a six-round lightweight bout. Unbeaten Cranston, R.I., welterweight Nick DeLomba (2-0) will face Carlos Hernandez (3-2-1, 2 KOs) of Bridgeport, Conn., in a six-round bout and Providence’s KJ Harrison-Lombardi (3-0-1) will face newcomer Peter Eldridge of Brockton, Mass., in a four-round middleweight bout. Also on the undercard, Hartford, Conn., super welterweight Antonio Marrero (0-1) will face Providence’s Publio Pena (1-0, 1 KO) in a four-round bout. Hyannis, Mass., heavyweight Jesse Barboza (6-1-1, 4 KOs) and Willimantic, Conn., light heavyweight Kevin Cobbs (7-1, 2 KOs) will be featured in separate bouts. ROAD TO REDEMPTION FOR MANSOUR, PRICE, COYNE & THOMPSON ON NBC SPORTS NETWORK FIGHT NIGHT

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ – In a pair of pick ’em 10 rounders on the December 14th edition of NBC Sports Network’s FIGHT NIGHT, heavyweights Amir Mansour & Kelvin Price and light heavyweights Ryan Coyne & Lionell Thompson seek redemption from recent setbacks and the opportunity to prove that they have what it takes to compete at the elite levels of the sport. For each of the four men, once promising ring careers came into question following events inside and outside of the ring. Now it’s make-or-break on the nationally televised Atlantic City show – a definitive victory could get half of the combatants back on track and silence their doubters; a loss could be the end of the road.

Knockout artist Amir “Hardcore” Mansour, 19-0, 14 KOs, of Wilmington, DE, has yet to lose a fight, but the buzz-worthy wrecking machine has a different sort of demon to overcome. His best years were spent behind prison bars instead of inside the ring so, at 41 years of age, Mansour has plenty of critics who think he’s just too old to be taken seriously. On December 14th, Hardcore is looking to put his struggles behind him and prove that he belongs in the successful over-40 club lead by current world title holders and pound-for-pound contenders Bernard Hopkins and Vitali Klitschko.

Amir will have to fend off another determined salvation-seeker in Klitschko-sized heavyweight, Kelvin “Price is Right” Price, 14-1, 6 KOs.After a win in his last fight (a 10-round decision over Danny Williams), the six-foot, seven-inch boxer from Pensacola, FL is still trying to erase the memory of the only loss of his career to undefeated, streaking heavyweight sensation Deontay Wilder almost one year ago.

Both heavies will enter the ring with the same goal, after 10 rounds (or less) we’ll find out which big man moves forward.

In the 10-round co-feature bout, redemption will also be the prize for one of two very hungry light heavyweights.

Southpaw Ryan Coyne, 21-1, 9 KOs, of St. Louis, MO, is out to prove that he is far better than his last fight, a loss to Marcus Oliveira by TKO.Prior to that setback, “The Irish Outlaw” topped everyone he faced. Returning to his previously winning ways is job number one for Ryan.He would like nothing more than to enter the light heavyweight sweepstakes that awaits the winner of this anticipated bout.

However, Buffalo’s Lionell Thompson, 14-2, 9 KOs, has the same objective.”Lonnie B” is on a two-bout roll, and rebuilding his reputation after his 2012 TKO loss to Sergey Kovalev. That defeat looks far better these days, given the fact that Kovalev became the WBO light heavyweight world champion less than one year later. Although Thompson took the fight with Kovalev on only two weeks’ notice, he clearly needs to register a big win to erase any doubts and move up in the star-studded 175-pound division.

This exciting night of redemption takes place at the legendary Superstar Theatre at Atlantic City’s Resorts International Hotel& Casino, and will be televised on NBC Sports Network Fight Night between 8-10 PM, which looks to be a stellar start to an eagerly anticipated night of boxing.

Ticket info and undercard will be announced shortly.

Becerra Back in Action as Uppercut Promotions Brings Pro Boxing to Vacaville

MaxBecerraWins300ROSEVILLE, CA – Longtime Sacramento area promoter Nasser Niavaroni’s Uppercut Promotions will open its 2014 on February 15th with a jam-packed card at a venue to be announced in nearby Vacaville. Making his long-awaited return to the ring in the main event will be Vacaville’s own rising junior welterweight prospect Maximilliano Becerra in a six-round bout.

Becerra (6-0-2, 3 KOs) has battled back from the injuries that prevented him from competing in 2013 and is back at work training in Indio, California with the well-respected Diaz Brothers camp, led by Antonio and Joel Diaz, former world title challengers.

“My layoff has been the result of so many different things,” explains Becerra. “I injured my hand and have been having hand problems. I let it rest and came back, actually had a fight scheduled at the Thunder Valley Casino when Nasser put on that show there, but I ended up re-injuring my hand then. I went to a hand specialist and have been taking care of it better and it is feeling really strong.”

Still immensely popular in Vacaville, Becerra moved down to Indio to better his career by working with the Diaz family. “Bobby Lee, the father of top ranked amateur Brandon Lee, moved down here and met the Diaz Brothers and talked to them for me. At the time, I was in Vacaville and I was not getting good sparring and my coaching was not the best it could be, so I felt I needed to make a change. So Bobby brought me down here and hooked me up with the Diaz Brothers, so I have been with them ever since.”

There may be no better camp for a junior welterweight to be a part of right now than the Diaz camp in Southern California. “I get to work with Timothy Bradley and Omar Figueroa,” says Becerra excitedly. “Right now I am working with Jose Roman and a lot of the top guys that come out here. So right now I am getting really good training and the best sparring and I feel like a more complete fighter right now.”

Promoter Nasser Niavaroni plans to match Becerra with Luis Alberto Cervantes, the opponent he had in mind for the Vacaville fighter on October 12th. The fight fell apart after Cervantes’ medicals were not completed in time. Becerra’s team has already studied Cervantes (7-6-3, 2 KOs) of Palm Springs, California by way of Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico.

“My trainers know him pretty well,” explains Becerra. “He trains with Steve Quinonez and his father in Palm Springs, but I personally don’t know much else about him. I have seen him fight once, but that is all.”

There is one thing Becerra knows for sure: Vacaville will come out in force for his hometown debut on February 15th. “I think it will be huge. With the event in Vacaville, my people are going to come out and I know I can sell it out.”

Quickly becoming a Sacramento area favorite, heavyweight Rodney Hernandez (5-1, 1 KO) of Modesto, California will see action in a six-round bout. Hernandez impressively decisioned Henry Ramirez protégé Kevin Howard in a four-rounder on the last Uppercut Promotions card this past October 12th in Sacramento. Hernandez looks to take another step forward in the wide open heavyweight division in February.

Light heavyweight Ryan Bourland (1-0, 1 KO) of Vacaville will make his hometown debut in a four-round bout on February 15th. Bourland put away a much larger Albert Avina inside of two rounds in his pro debut at the October 12th event. Nicknamed “Rhino,” Bourland is expected to have a large supportive crowd cheering him on to win number two in February.

Former amateur heavyweight sensation LaRon Mitchell (3-0, 3 KOs) of San Francisco, California will aim to continue his career-long knockout streak on February 15th in a four-round bout. Mitchell had a busy October, scoring first-round knockouts two weeks and roughly 1,500 miles apart. On October 12th, Mitchell quickly dispatched Blue DeLong in Roseville, California. Then on October 26th, the Andy Nance-managed Mitchell put away Jesse Busk in just about the same amount of time in New Town, North Dakota.

Rounding out the pro card will be debuting welterweight Otis Seymore of San Francisco in a four-rounder. Seymore’s highly anticipated debut was put off for over a year while the popular Bay Area fighter overcame minor injuries. Now back healthy and training alongside Bay Area notables Aaron Coley, Miguel Lopez and Troy King, the 2009 U.S. National Championships bronze medalist is ready to wreck havoc on the 147-pound weight class. Seymore has signed with upstart managerial firm Ortega Boxing, led by Mario Ortega Jr.

A slate of USA Boxing-sanctioned amateur bouts will open the great night of action.

“This has traditionally been a great boxing area,” says promoter Nasser Niavaroni. “With Tony Lopez and even before him, Bobby Chacon, Pete Ranzany, Loreto Garza and Richard Duran, the great Richard Duran that passed away. I am just trying to keep boxing going, that’s all I am doing. At the same time, we are looking for up-and-coming stars that we can move forward and potentially get them into a championship situation.”

All Bouts Subject to Change

Tickets for the event, promoted by Uppercut Promotions, will go on sale at a later date to be announced.

TOTOWA, NJ – Undefeated Russian light heavyweight boxer, Ilshat “The Sheriff” Khusnulgatin, 11-0, 6 KOs, signed a promotional contract with Main Events on Friday. The free-swinging, switch-hitting boxer-puncher is an exciting prospect who has fought in California three times, including his two most recent starts. “The Sheriff” stopped both Arsenio Terrazas (TKO4) and Nathan Bedwell (KO5) in those bouts, and looks forward to more bouts stateside under the Main Events banner.

“These are exciting times in the light heavyweight division and for fighters from Eastern Europe,” said promoter Kathy Duva. “Ilshat makes another great addition to our light heavyweight line-up at Main Events. At 23, he is the youngest fighter at Main Events and we look forward to watching him develop.”

Ilshat got his start in the sport at the Samara Boxing Club, a gym in his hometown of Samara, Russia. The Club spawned undefeated middleweight Dimitry Pirog, super middleweight Maxim Vlasov, and others.

Managaed by Egis Klimas, Ilshat is currently advancing his boxing skills under the expert tutelage of veteran boxing trainer, John David Jackson.

With a bit of seasoning, the young “Sheriff” may prove to be a real attraction in the light heavyweight division, and turn the rest of the key 175-pounders into his most wanted list. His size and willingness to engage should make him one to watch, and in time may put him on track for a world title shot.

PETER FURY IS TARGETING CLASSIEST PERFORMANCE YET FROM HUGHIE LEWIS FURY THIS FRIDAY

London (5 November) Peter Fury is looking for a relaxed and composed performance from young heavyweight star Hughie Lewis Fury when he faces David Gegeshidze this Friday at The City Academy, Bristol.

Ahead of Hughie’s clash, his father and trainer, Peter, hopes the Georgian fighter will give him a fight “as competitive as possible” to aid the teenager’s progression.

“I hope it will be as competitive as possible as we’re not interested in any blast-outs, because Hughie’s not learning much by that,” Peter said.

“He’s not going to learn by blasting people out, so we’re getting fighters that are durable specifically so that he can pace himself and learn his ring craft, because the power is there, he’s demonstrated that, he has six knockouts already, so what I want is for him to get the rounds.”

The 19-year-old heavyweight is aiming to add his 12th straight win to his perfect professional record, after outclassing Hrvoje Kisicek over six rounds on his last outing.

But Gegeshidze will be looking to blemish the young prospect’s record, entering the contest on the back of three straight victories.

However, targeting the famous record of Mike Tyson, to become the youngest ever world heavyweight champion, Peter wants Hughie to take his time and show what he is capable of.

“In his last few fights he’s got carried away,” Peter said.

“He’s tried to blast his opponents out and we all know if you’re looking specifically to take someone out it isn’t going to happen, because you start loading up and people can see your shots and they’ve got time to adjust and cope with the power, so basically relax and box.

“We hope Gegeshidze gives him a good fight and we know it’s going to be good because he’s coming off a winning record, he’s won his last three on the run and he has a decent record, so he’s a step up for Hughie.”

Doors for Sanigar Events’ night of championship boxing open at 6.30pm, with boxing scheduled to start at 7.00pm.

Topping the bill at The City Academy will be Lee Haskins defending his British bantamweight title against Nottingham’s Jason Booth, shown live on Eurosport.
