Journey continues for Demetrius Andrade WBO title fight Nov. 9 vs. Vanes Martirosyan

andrade
ATLANTA (October XX, 2013) – The journey continues for undefeated 2008 U.S. Olympian Demetrius “Boo Boo” Andrade (19-0, 13 KOs) as he prepares for his November 9th world title fight in Corpus Christi, Texas, against 2004 U.S. Olympian Vanes “Nightmare” Martirosyan (33-0-1, 21 KOs) for the vacant World Boxing Organization (WBO) junior middleweight championship.

Andrade vs. Martirosyan will be part of an HBO tripleheader, headlined by the WBO junior lightweight title fight between defending champion Roman Martinez and challenger Mikey Garcia, and a rematch between former world champions Nonito Donaire and Vic Darchinyan.

The 25-year-old Andrade was originally slated to challenge then WBO champion Zaurbek Baysangurov last July. The Russian pulled out of the fight with an injury and was stripped of his title belt, leaving the world title vacant to set-up the Nov. 9 showdown between the top two rated WBO 154-pounders, respectively, Martirosyan and Andrade.

Andrade, fighting out of Providence (RI), has been at training camp in Atlanta with his father/head trainer, Paul Andrade. They have brought in a half-dozen sparring partners, mostly tall with quick hand speed, to prepare for Martirosyan.

“This title fight is part of my journey,” the 2007 AIBA World Championships gold medalist Andrade said. “When I first started boxing, I said that I’d fight in The Olympics, become world champion, and retire undefeated. I will become the first boxer from the 2008 U.S. Olympic Boxing Team to become world champion as a professional. This is the opportunity I’ve waited for my whole life. It is going to open my door to stardom, letting boxing fans know I’m here. This is it!

“I was supposed to fight for the world title in July but I believe everything happens for a reason. I’ve had more time to work with my dad. I’m stronger, faster and this camp has been better organized and structured than any I’ve had in the past. I’m growing and developing all the time.”

While Martirosyan has been talking about fights with Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and others, Andrade has fully concentrated on Martirosyan and the task at hand. Their only common opponent is Angel Hernandez, who Martirosyan defeated by 10-round decision in 2008, and Andrade stopped in the second round of his last fight this past January.

“He can talk all he wants about fighting other guys,” Andrade remarked, “but if he thinks fighting me is going to be a walk in the park, he’s going to be in big trouble. I’m coming for him and he doesn’t know how bad that’s going to be for him.

“He’s already had 34 fights and this is his first title fight, which says something about him. He doesn’t do anything great. He’s not slick, his feet are all over the place, and he jumps in to throw punches. He walks in, loading up to throw big punches. He wasn’t impressive against (Erislandy) Lara or even Joe Greene.”

Team Andrade hopes Martirosyan is looking past the slick southpaw. “This is going to be a tough fight and we respect Vanes,” Andrade’s manager Ed Farris added, “but Alvarez shouldn’t waste his time thinking about a fight with Martirosyan. We’re confident that Demetrius will be walking out of the ring with the WBO belt on November 9th.

World Champion John ‘The Quietman’ Ruiz Promoting new American Fighting Organization Amateur & Professional MMA and Boxing

ruizpublicityphoto
MEDFORD, Mass. (October 7, 2013) – As he prepares to officially launch the new American Fighting Organization (AFO), two-time World Boxing Association heavyweight champion John “The Quietman” Ruiz has become New England’s newest combat sports promoter.

AFO will promote amateur and professional mixed martial arts and boxing events, as well as promote MMA fighters and boxers, starting in January with an amateur MMA tournament in various weight classes to determine the best in New England.

“We are going to put on the best shows in New England,” Ruiz promised. “I’m investing a lot of money to promote events and fighters, in addition to putting on great MMA and boxing shows for fans.”

Ruiz, under Quietman Sports, purchased AFO, its website and debt, which was recently paid off (see pictures below).

“I’d been talking about promoting and this opportunity came out of nowhere,” Ruiz continued. “AFO was structured as one of the oldest MMA promotional companies in New England. It was also in place and that was better for us than starting out from scratch. AFO’s reputation within the industry may not have been the best but we’ve paid off its debts and are now prepared to make the new AFO the best combat sports promotional company in New England.

“Fighters are fighters. At my gym (Quietman Sports Gym in Medford, MA) we teach MMA and boxing. It has a nice ring and cage, too. Since I retired as a boxer, I’ve always felt like I would get into promoting boxing, and AFO will be boxing and MMA. I want to bring more class to both sports. Our shows will offer better competition and more entertaining fights, in both MMA and boxing in New England.”

Ruiz said that he is looking throughout New England for a venue that can become the new AFO home and waiting to hear back from prospective television networks interested in airing AFO shows.

The new AFO’s first event, tentatively scheduled for early next year, will be a N.E. amateur MMA tournament, which will also feature a few pro fights. AFO plans to promote 12 shows in 2014, insuring at least four fights next year for AFO fighters. A specially designed AFO title belt will be awarded to each tournament winner, as well as a trophy to the gym producing the most champions. Ruiz also set a goal for promoting his first boxing event, possibly a Pro-Am, or even a boxing-MMA hybrid, outdoors next summer.

“We’re going to make all of our shows true events with music, lights and grand entrances for every fighter,” Ruiz concluded. “I was the first (and only) Latino who became World Heavyweight Boxing Champion. I want to create more ethnic diversity to get all types of people involved in combat sports. This is the perfect time to launch the new AFO because it’s also Hispanic Heritage Month. In time, we will be signing pro boxers and MMA fighters. Right from the start we will treat amateurs like unpaid pros, so that they’ll want to sign with AFO when they turn pro.

“I will be a fighter’s promoter, guaranteeing them that they will be treated with the respect and dignity that they deserve for all of the hard work and sacrifices they put into their craft. I know what they’re going through. I learned the hard way and AFO fighters will benefit from my experiences in and out of the ring. I can’t wait for our first AFO show.”

Please contact Jackie Ruiz at 617.979.6376 with inquiries regarding the new AFO sponsorships and/or advertising opportunities, For more information about the AFO or Quietman Sports, visit www.afomma.com, www.quietmansports.com, www.facebook.com/QuietmanSports or www.facebook.com/afomma.com.

Showdown at the Fairgrounds II on Saturday

WarriorsROSEVILLE, CA — Upstart Northern California boxing promoter O.P.P. brings live professional boxing back to the Placer County Fair & Events Center in Roseville with “Showdown at the Fairgrounds II” on Saturday, October 12th. The highly-anticipated event is headlined by fast-rising junior middleweight prospect Aaron Coley and highlighted by a showdown between two undefeated light welterweights, Aldwayne Simpson and Ulises Soriano, both based out of Richmond, California. Several of the region’s most promising fighters will round out the card. Tickets are on sale now and available via the PayPal window on this page.

Coley (7-0, 4 KOs) of Hayward, California will make the move up to the six-round distance for the first time in his career as he takes on veteran gatekeeper Michael Alexander (2-8-3) of Antioch, California. Coley was last in the ring back on July 20th at the initial “Showdown at the Fairgrounds” where he took a shutout four-round decision over a game Saul Benitez. The tough luck Alexander has an appeal pending regarding his seventh pro loss, which took place on June 1st. In that fight, against unbeaten Ricardo Pinell, Alexander was clearly hit by a shot after the bell which resulted in the stoppage.

Aldwayne Simpson (4-0, 2 KOs) of Richmond, California by way of Kingston, Jamaica takes to the ring for the first time in 2013 against long tenured journeyman Luis Alfredo Lugo (13-19-1, 6 KOs) of Richmond by way of Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico in a four-round light welterweight contest. Simpson is a frequent sparring partner for Amir Khan when the former champion moves his camp to nearby Oakland. Lugo has fought virtual who’s who of world champions and contenders. Upon moving to the United States, Lugo took on nine consecutive undefeated fighters from May 2008 to September 2009. In that stretch Lugo went the distance with eventual world champions Danny Garcia and Adrien Broner.

Local fan favorite John Abella (4-0-1, 2 KOs) of neighboring Sacramento, California returns to the ring against Christian Cartier (0-2) of Yuma, Arizona by way of Los Algodones, Baja California, Mexico in a four-round featherweight bout. In his last outing, Abella erased a headbutt-induced technical draw with a one-sided six-round decision in a rematch with Salvador Cifuentez this past April. Cartier has not shied away from tough competition, taking on unbeaten prospects in all of his pro bouts.

Former international amateur standout Adam Fiel (1-0, 1 KO) of Fairfield, California will be looking for win number two in a four-round featherweight bout. Fiel spent time competing for both the U.S. and Filipino National Teams as part of a long and decorated amateur career. Fiel, under the tutelage of trainer Nonito Donaire Sr., turned pro at “Showdown at the Fairgrounds” with a devastating first-round stoppage of Francisco Solis. Fiel will be taking on an opponent to be announced shortly.

OPPPosterMaking his return to the ring after a two-year absence, Miguel Lopez (2-1, 1 KO) of Oakland, California will take on debuting Luis Cruz of Sacramento in a four-round light middleweight bout. Lopez, who in his time away opened up the gym Boxing For Health in Oakland, suffered his only pro loss in his last contest, but to a fighter in Brandon Adams that now has an 11-0 career mark. Cruz is a pupil of Horacio Barrera at Broadway Boxing in Sacramento.

LaRon Mitchell, one of the top amateur heavyweights of the U.S. boxing system over the last couple of years, makes the second start of his pro career as he takes on tough journeyman Blue DeLong (0-4) of Glendale, Arizona in a four-round heavyweight bout. Mitchell (1-0, 1 KO) was the runner-up at the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials and silver medalist at the 2012 USA Boxing National Championships when a shoulder injury prevented him from competing in the finals. DeLong is coming off of a tough assignment against still unbeaten Gerald Washington.

Another local favorite making his return to Roseville will be Sacramento’s undefeated Alberto Torres, who will be taking on debuting Percy Peterson of Stockton, California in a four-round lightweight bout. Torres (3-0-1) dropped San Francisco, California’s Denis Madriz en route to a four-round unanimous decision victory at July’s “Showdown at the Fairgrounds” event. Peterson is a frequent sparring partner of up-and-coming pro Don Jose.

DavinaJoyThe card will open up with a slate of USA Boxing-sanctioned amateur contests featuring fighters some several of the top local gyms.

During intermission from the boxing action, the ring will host a live musical performance by Northern California’s own Davina Joy.

Ashley Theophane reminisces about #TheOne in Las Vegas

The dust has started to settle after my appearance on the biggest boxing event the world has seen in a generation.

There was a record 22 million Mexicans tuned into ‘The One’ boxing event featuring Floyd Mayweather, Saul Alvarez, Danny Garcia, Lucas Matthysse, Ishe Smith, Carlos Molina, Pablo Cesar Cano and of course, yours truly. The American PPV audience was over 2 million viewers, and that’s not counting the people watching in movie theatres and on closed circuit in hotels across Las Vegas.

The significant worldwide audience in Europe, Africa, South America, Oceania and Asia is yet to be totalled.
Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather was guaranteed 41.5 million dollars for his performance against Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez. His pay looks to be near an unbelievable 100 million dollars when all the figures are finally counted up. He has been the highest paid sportsman in the world for the last two years, and unlike any other global sports superstar, none of that is from endorsements.
Floyd Mayweather is a phenomenon.
I opened up this colossal show against two time world title challenger, Pablo Cesar Cano. Three world title fights followed. Leonard Ellerbe, CEO of Mayweather Promotions handed me this huge and life changing opportunity. It gets no bigger than the stage I was given.
Fight week was breath taking and nothing short of superstar stature. From the fighter arrivals, to the media workout, autograph signing, press conference, to the 12,000 fans at the weigh in and the 16,000 fans at the fight in the MGM Arena. This was so special and something I will never ever forget.
I also got to spar with Floyd Mayweather in the lead up to his fight. I’ll always be able to say I helped him get his 45th win. It was an honour and a privilege.
From when I walked into the Mayweather Boxing Club in 2011, Floyd Mayweather and Leonard Ellerbe have always shown me love and respect. All I can say is a deeply felt Thank You. They are two of the greatest guys!
To have a British fighter opening this big a stage, is something that has never been done before. Britain’s three most successful active fighters are Amir Khan, David Haye and Carl Froch, and they have never fought on a stage this big. They are British fighters I have respect for, and in the case of Carl and David, I’m inspired by.
My fight with Pablo was a back and forth, see-saw fight. He hit me with everything he had, and I hit him with my best shots. He buckled my knees and I wobbled him. It was a tough and entertaining fight, and one close enough to have the judges split.
Since the fight, boxing fans have stopped me in Las Vegas, New York and London and told me what a performance I put on and that they believed I won. That is worth hearing. My “granite” chin now has won its own fan club.
The best of UK’s media showed me love in the lead up to the biggest show of my life – The Sun, Daily Mail, The Mirror, Metro, The London Evening Standard, The Daily Star, TalkSport, Zoo, Nuts and Sport magazine all ran articles on me. BoxNation televised my fight, and the British fans were so supportive. I can only say Thank You. It was very much appreciated.
I am due to fight later this year in Las Vegas. I have the backing of Floyd Mayweather and Leonard Ellerbe. My life shows that with hard work, dedication and perseverance that anything is possible.
Two of the most important men in boxing, believe in my talent. Now believe me – the best is still yet to come.

Moore dominates Fernandez to remain unbeaten; Ramsey upsets Soto in wild co-feature

UNCASVILLE, Conn. (Oct. 5th, 2013) – Light middleweight prospect Michael Moore of New Haven, Conn., kept his perfect record intact Saturday with a hard-fought win over game veteran Antonio Fernandes at Mohegan Sun Casino.

The unbeaten Moore (13-0), originally from Cleveland, calmly controlled the fight from start to finish, at times staggering the crafty, elusive Fernandes (3-13-2) over the course of 10 rounds. Fernandes’ awkward defensive style frustrated Moore early on, but as Fernandes (Brockton, Mass.) began to tire, Moore got his second win in latter half of the bout and closed out the fight in style, earning a 98-92, 100-90, 98-92 unanimous-decision win in the main event.

The battle of unbeaten welterweight prospects in the eight-round co-feature lived up to the billing as Zack Ramsey (6-0) of Hartford, Conn., and Edwin Soto (9-1-2) of New Haven waged a back-and-forth battle with both sides jockeying for the upper hand throughout the fight. Ramsey utilized his superior speed, coupled with his ability to weave in and out of trouble, to pull off the upset win by unanimous decision, 78-74, on all three cards.

Picking his spots while fighting on the outside for most of the night, Ramsey dominated the early rounds until Soto mounted a late surge, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the slick boxing by Ramsey in the first half of the fight. After beating Fernandes in September by unanimous decision, Ramsey has now won three fights in a five-month span in 2013, cementing his status as one of the elite, up-and-coming welterweights in the region.

Returning to New England for the second time in less than a month, Lancaster, Pa., welterweight Evincii Dixon (2-2-2) fought to a majority draw against New Haven’s Christian Lao (4-2-1). Dixon previously fought at Twin River Casino in Lincoln, R.I., losing a six-round decision to Nick DeLomba. Last night’s fight was much closer as he and Lao – fighting for the first time in 15 months – exchanged blows throughout four competitive rounds.

Judges Bill Morande and Clark Sammartino scored the bout 38-38 while judge Don Trella scored it 39-37 in favor of Lao. The difference was the opening round, which Trella scored in favor of Lao while Morande and Sammartino awarded it to Dixon.

In the opening bout, New Haven light middleweight David Wilson (2-0) won for the second time in as many bouts, beating tough veteran Danny Lugo (2-5) of Harrisburg, Pa., by unanimous decision, 40-36, on all three scorecards. Lugo absorbed his share of punishment from the taller, faster Wilson, but kept coming forward, making for a fast-paced between the two combatants. Lugo was effective when fighting on the inside, but Wilson’s significant reach advantage and subsequent ability to keep Lugo at bat turned out to be the difference.

Fighting for the first time in more than a year, New England light heavyweight Charles Foster (5-0) kept his perfect record intact with a hard-fought, unanimous-decision win over Philadelphia veteran Greg Hackett (2-13), 40-36, on all three scorecards. Foster was originally supposed to face fellow Philadelphia light heavyweight Taneal Goyco, but Goyco suffered a shoulder injury two days before the weigh-in and Hackett agreed to take the fight on short notice.

Undersized at 5-foot-6 against the taller, leaner Foster, Hackett gave it his all and showed no fear fighting on the inside, but Foster made the most of his short, quick punches to soften Hackett and, like Wilson in the previous bout, used his reach to frustrate his opponent.

In the final bout, heavyweight Solomon Maye (1-0, 1 KO) of New Haven, Conn., making his pro debut, stopped the overmatched John Desmond (0-1) of Duxbury, Mass., thirty-seven seconds into the opening round. Maye came out swinging and Desmond failed to defend himself, prompting the referee to stop the bout.

Cotto destroys Rodriguez in three

Cotto_rodriguez_1
Miguel Cotto brought back memories of the past as he knocked out Delvin Rodriguez in round three of their scheduled twelve round Jr. Middleweight bout at the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida.

Cotto came out in round one by focusing his left to the body. Cotto continued his sharp shooting in round two and he finished the frame with a huge right and left to the chin.

Cotto_rodriguez_2
In round three, it took just one left hook to the jaw that sent Rodriguez down in front of the ropes and referee Frank Santore stopped the fight immediately at 18 seconds of round three.

Cotto, 153.25 lbs of Caguas, PR will now seek a big fight with a record of 38-4 with 31 knockouts. Rodriguez, 154 lbs of Danbury, CT is now 28-7-3

Crawford_Klimov
Terrence Crawford scored a lack luster ten round unanimous decision over Andery Klimov in a fight that featured two undefeated Lightweights.

Crawford boxed from the pocket and switched to southpaw in round two. Crawford stayed there for the rest of the fight and was content on jabbing and landing an occasional straight left. Klimov did a little more then stick out the jab and never really threw any punches with purpose. Neither guy was ever in any type of danger. The fight was void of action until the final bell when the two engaged for the last ten seconds that saw Crawford land a hard left to the body and right to the head.

Crawford, 134 1/2 lbs of Omaha, NE won by scores of 100-90 on all cards and is now 22-0. Klimov, 134 1/2 lbs of Russia is now 16-1.

Super Prospect Felix Verdejo scored a second round stoppage over Gary Eyer in a scheduled six round Super featherweight bout.

Verdejo wobbled Eyer a couple of times in round one. Verdejo landed ripping shots in round two that started Eyer’s nose to leak blood. After the doctor looked at Eyer’s nose, Verdejo opened up couple of rights and two wicked left hooks that forced referee Tellis Asselminios to stop the bout at 2:52 of round two.

Verdejo, 133 1/2 lbs of San Juan, PR is now 8-0 with six knockouts. Eyer, 132 1/2 lbs of Duluth, MN is now 11-4-1.

Moises Carrasquillo Jr. scored a four round unanimous decision over Steven Chadwick in a Middleweight bout.

Carrasquillio dominated the bout and bloodied the nose of Chadwick in round two.

Scores were 40-36 on all cards for Carrisquillo, 161 1/2 lbs of Orlando and is now 4-0. Chadwick, 160 1/2 lbs of Jacksonville, FL is 2-5.

Ricky Tomlinson and Lamar Charalton battled to a four round draw in a Featherweight bout.

Each fighter won a card at 39-37 while a third card read even at 38-38.

Tomlinson, 124 3/4 lbs of Thonosissia, FL is 1-0-1. Charlton, 124 3/4 lbs of Ocala, FL is now 1-4-2

Klitschko defeats Povetkin in ugly title defense

wklitschko
It wasn’t pretty but Wladimir Klitscho made another title defense of the WBA/WBC/IBF Ring Magazine Heavyweight Wladimir Klistchko defended his crown against WBA regular champion Alexander with a lopsided 12 round unanimous decision in Moscow, Russia.

Pobetkin tried to start out quick but without much success. In round two, Klitschko landed a short left hook that Povetkin down for the 1st time in his career. The fight never had any flow to it due to Klitschko holding and headlocking Povetkin any time that Povetkin got close. The fight was essentially put out of reach when Klitschko dropped Povetkin three times.

The first came from a hard 1-2 combination. The second came after Klitschko rocked Povetkin with a big right hand, the champion jumped all over Povetkin and sent him to the canvas after a big flurry of punches. Klitschko hurt Povetkin with a left and sent him to the canvas for a fourth time in the fight and third in round seven with a follow up left hand.

Povetkin did well to make it out of the round and to the final bell but he never had Klistchko in any trouble despite continuing to try more then most previous Klitschko opponents. Klitschko did well to hold, grab and push Povetkin down to the canvas several more times and was even penalized a point in round eleven by referee Luis Pabon.

Klitschko went 61-3 with a decision that read 119-104 on all cards. Povetkin loses for the first time and is now 26-1.

Mike Tyson weighin_121207_001a
WASHINGTON, D.C. (Oct. 5, 2013)- In a now well publicized open letter to USA Boxing, the youngest man to ever win the Heavyweight Championship of the World, Mike Tyson, praised the success of Washington, D.C., welterweight phenom Dusty Hernandez-Harrison (17-0, 10 KOs) as an example of accomplishment for young boxers. The twitter account associated with the polarizing former World Champion also gave high admiration to Hernandez-Harrison, stating he is an, “inspiration to young amateurs looking to turn pro.”

Hernandez-Harrison, 19 years of age and ranked No. 19 by the NABF and No. 40 by the WBC, is preparing for his first World Championship opportunity when he faces Josh Torres (12-2, 5 KOs) for the WBC Youth World Welterweight Championship on November 2, 2013 at Madison Square Garden Theater as a featured undercard bout of the HBO televised middleweight championship between Gennady Golovkin and Curtis Stevens.

Hernandez-Harrison turned professional at the age of 17, and has garnered National attention with 17 straight wins while carrying himself with the poise and confidence of an athlete well beyond his years.

“Dusty is honored by the compliment given to him by one of the most exciting and dynamic Heavyweight Champions in history,” said Hernandez-Harrison’s promoter Jeff Fried of All-In Entertainment. “Dusty continues to maintain the focus, work ethic and sacrifice that is necessary to succeed to the highest level in any sport, and certainly in boxing. Dusty is passionate about learning and continuing to develop as a professional boxer.”

“There is great respect for the history and tradition of USA Boxing,” Fried added. “When you walk through the Colorado Springs complex it is surreal viewing photos of some of the greatest Champions in the history of boxing and who likewise represented our country in the Olympics.”

In addition to being a professional boxer, the Southeast Washington, D.C., native is continuing his education at the University of the District of Columbia while taking Spanish lessons from a tutor. Hernandez-Harrison is an active member in his community, regularly speaking at area schools and recreation centers about the importance of hard work and education.

“Each situation is different for these young boxers. Jeff and I place as much focus on Dusty’s development outside the ring as we do in furthering his career as a professional boxer,” said Buddy Harrison, the welterweight’s father and trainer. “We have a team around Dusty that is not only guiding his career, but really cares about what happens for my son after his boxing career is over.”

Not only is Dusty’s talent continuing to develop, but so is his popularity. Through the joint effort of Hernandez-Harrison, All In Entertainment and his many supporters in the Washington, D.C., region, a fleet of buses has been arranged to transport fans to New York for the November 2 Championship matchup. Over the past year Hernandez-Harrison’s supporters have come out in groves to support the young fighter up and down the East Coast: a testament to this young man’s humbleness, Family values and a desire to perform his craft on a Champion class

TYSON FURY: FEBRUARY 8TH IS “SIGNED AND SEALED… OVER TO YOU EXCUSE-MAKER”

London (5th October) Unbeaten heavyweight sensation and former British, Commonwealth and Irish heavyweight champion Tyson Fury has announced that his fight with former undisputed cruiserweight and former WBA world heavyweight champion David Haye is “signed and sealed” for February 8th.

“This is a message to all my fans and haters, for all those wanting to see me knock out David Haye on behalf of the nation and all those who want to see me put out of my misery,” Tyson said.

“The fight for February 8th is completely signed and sealed from both of us.

“I’m pleased that the fight is on again for February 8th – it’s going to be bigger this time, better, more people watching and I’m going to take pleasure in smashing his face in a bit more.

“He shunned me in Sheffield when I was just a kid and then this, it definitely adds to my desire of knocking him out.

“It’s been a long time coming, but it will definitely be worth waiting for – good things come to those who wait – and I’ve been waiting so long.”

David Haye and Dereck Chisora are allegedly both set to be sitting ringside tonight as Wladimir Klitschko, 37, defends his IBF, WBO and WBA ‘super’ titles against undefeated Russian and WBA ‘regular’ belt holder Alexander Povetkin, 34, but Tyson is not interested in any speculation that Haye may be looking to face the winner.

“I don’t want Mr Excuse-maker Haye coming out with any other reason than he chickened out, if he tries to fight a ready-to-go Klitschko instead of me,” Tyson said.

“Let them all go over there, cap-in-hand and watch Klitschko and give him all their credit.

“It’s very possible he chases the winner of Klitschko and Povetkin because he doesn’t want my fight and he’s terrified of me – so he could try and escape by going after one of these, but if he pulls out injured again, it would be laughable and he wouldn’t have the credibility to get in the ring with either of them.

“I really don’t know what’s going to happen in the Klitschko fight, they’re both boring – Povetkin could land that overhand right on his jaw, if not then I can see Povetkin getting beaten on points.

“If they both fight me, I’ll knock them both out, if they ever dare to step in the ring with me – but I really doubt that that’s going to happen.

“I’m confident that Haye will take my fight now as there’s too much public demand for him not to take this fight – after all the pulling out saga he’s got nowhere to go really.

“He’ll have to emigrate – he won’t be able to show his face around this neck of the woods anymore and I’m looking forward to getting in there and doing a job on him.

“Big fights need to happen and it doesn’t come any bigger than the fight we’ve signed up for – over to you Excuse-maker.”

Tickets previously purchased for the original date of September 28 are automatically valid for this new date of February 8. Alternatively, fans looking for a refund are advised to go back to their point of purchase before October 31.

WBC SILVER CHAMPION JAMES DEGALE MBE IS SET TO ERUPT IN “DEVASTATING” FASHION

London (5 October) Mick Hennessy has today announced that he will be promoting a night of championship boxing as the WBC Silver super middleweight champion James DeGale MBE steps back into the ring at Glow, Bluewater, on Saturday November 16, live on Channel 5, with an opponent to be announced shortly.

The Beijing Olympic Gold medallist, DeGale, will be looking to deliver a commanding performance as he continues his march towards world title glory.

“It really is a superb arena to fight at and I can’t wait to get in there and put on the kind of display where people take note and see that I’m ready and willing to fight the best,” DeGale said

“I’ll put on a great performance for the fans.”

The man, fondly known as ‘Chunky’, bids to add to Britain’s Olympic legacy and his own 2008 success, by becoming our first Olympic and professional world champion.

This is the feat James is targeting and his next step towards this historic achievement is a “devastating” display in front of a full house, at Glow, Bluewater.

“Bluewater always has a real intensity about it and a real intimate feel, which is something that the boxing fraternity and us as fighters love,” DeGale said.

“I just can’t wait to get in there and give a huge, devastating performance that takes the atmosphere to another level.”

This will be James’ third fight of 2013 after confident and explosive stoppage victories over Sebastien Demers on his Canadian debut and Stjepan Bozic in his last fight at Glow, Bluewater.

This fight couldn’t arrive at a more telling time – as the super middleweight division is heating up and delivering huge clash after clash.

“When you look at the super middleweight division, it really is a great time, as there are no easy fights, no easy world champions,” DeGale said.

“You’d have to say Andre Ward is number one and then you’d probably have to say it’s Carl Froch, but when you look at the list of other fighters in the division, the likes of: Mikkel Kessler, Thomas Oosthuizen, Lucian Buté, George Groves, I think it’s very difficult to say who number three is, who number four is.

“It’s a really strong division with a lot of talented fighters and I’d say I’m inside the top 10 and very excited to mix it with the best and show everything I’ve got.”

One contest at the forefront of James’ mind is the domestic scrap between WBA and IBF world champion Carl Froch and title challenger George Groves.

“I look at the Froch vs. Groves fight and I know that in the next six months it’s likely that I’ll fight the winner of that one, so it really is exciting times,” DeGale said.

“I’m ready and willing to fight anyone and it’s time to step up and face the best.”

James knows that he may be just one or two fights away from such a fight and is now looking to deliver a real signal of intent when a fitter, faster, focussed DeGale erupts on November 16th.

“I’m delighted to bring James back to Glow, Bluewater,” Mick Hennessy said.

“James is a world class fighter and this is a truly world class venue, where we can give the fight fans what they want – a superb fight and show that James is ready for anyone in the division.”

Anthony Hardy prepares for second pro-bout as opponent is named

outed prospects can be found in abundance throughout the United Kingdom. Many of them will ineluctably trade leather some ways down the road of contention.

They route themselves differently. Some brawl in their local clubs — while others look for something much greater. To reach those goals, Horden’s Anthony Hardy (1-0) will prepare for his first career uncertainty in his second professional showdown against Newcastle’s Chris Bennett (1-0) on Saturday, October 19th at the Rainton Meadows Arena in Houghton-le-Spring, Tyne and Wear, United Kingdom.

“The Hitman” Hardy nabbed a wide unanimous decision victory over trialhorse Matt Seawright in his hotly-contested pro-debut at Phil Jefferies’ July 7th Sunderland show. Hardy used his ring generalship to cruise his way to a victory on points. Since then, Hardy has gone through a number of zealous sparring sessions with some of Britain’s top young prospects — holding his own in each and every one.

Hardy has it tough in with Chris Bennett, a 24-year-old hopeful from Newcastle. Bennett has an identical record as Hardy at 1-0 and exhibits similar potential as a professional boxer. In fact, 17-6 as an amateur, Bennett forever dreamed of boxing as a professional. Will Hardy represent a jolting wake-up-call?

It’ll be something to look forward to on another huge Phil Jefferies’ boxing event. Martin Ward-Gabriel Laryea will take center stage ahead of Anthony Hardy’s much awaited career continuation. Hardy vs Bennett will be contested for four rounds.

Follow @Anth_Hardy11 on Twitter and follow his team on Facebook at Anthony Hardy Professional Boxer. Prepare for updates as the fight approaches over the next two weeks!

BRYAN VERA CONFERENCE CALL TRANSCRIPT OCTOBER 2, 2013

Vera_Chavez_PC
Operator – Welcome to the Bryan Vera conference call. I will now turn the call over to your host, Marc Abrams.

Mr. Marc Abrams – Hello, everyone, from the media. I thank everyone for joining us today. We’re having a special conference call with Bryan Vera in the wake of last Saturday night’s fight with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. that was at the StubHub Center in Carson, California, which was the largest–the most viewed fight on cable television this year in 2013. And obviously there’s been a lot of controversy about the decision. So, we’re going to rehash a little bit of that. And obviously people have read maybe in the last couple of days that there’s already been some rumblings about a possible rematch. So, we have Bryan on the call along with his trainer, trainer of champions, Ronnie Shields and promoter Art Pelullo of Banner Promotions, and he can shed a lot of stuff on that. So, let me turn it over to the CEO and President of Banner Promotions, Art Pelullo.

Mr. Artie Pelullo – Hi, guys. Who’s on the call?

Mr. Marc Abrams – We’ll find that out in a minute.

Mr. Artie Pelullo – Okay. The bottom line is I thank everybody for calling in. Where we’re at now is this is for you guys to ask your questions about Bryan and what the future holds for him. We are talking to Bob. We are talking to HBO about a December date. And should they not be financially in a position to pay for this event, Bob and I are discussing a pay per view event for December. So, outside of that, I think everybody wants to hear from Bryan and Ronnie. So, I’ll just listen in the background till there’s a question.

Mr. Marc Abrams – Bryan, you want to make any opening statements?

Mr. Bryan Vera – No, I’m good, man. Just–I’m ready to answer any kind of questions you have for me.

Mr. Marc Abrams – Okay, Ronnie?

Mr. Ronnie Shields – I just want to say that everybody saw the fight. This fight deserves a rematch because Bryan did win the fight. And I just think everybody, especially all the press, I think you guys need to put it out there that there should be a rematch.

Mr. Marc Abrams – Okay. I guess, operator, we’re ready for questions.

Operator – The line’s now open for questions. If you would like to ask a question, you may do so by pressing star and then one on your telephone keypad, that’s star and then the number one. We do have a question from the line of Brian Fogg with Leave it in the RinG. Your line is live.

Mr. Brian Fogg – Hi. A quick question here kind of for all three of you actually. Going into the 10th round and after the 10th round you guys were all celebrating. You seemed pretty sure of the decision. I guess what was going through your head right before you heard it?

Mr. Marc Abrams – Bryan?

Mr. Bryan Vera – Yeah, for me, I thought Iwon. I was a little bit worried [unintelligible] me and Ronnie [unintelligible] corner where we’re very happy with the way things were going. So, we–I thought for sure we had it man.

Mr. Ronnie Shields – Well, for me–.

Mr. Brian Fogg – –Ronnie, what do you think?

Mr. Ronnie Shields – –Yes. For me, I was happy because Bryan followed the game plan to a tee. I couldn’t ask him to do no more than what he did that night. And right after the fight though, I had my suspicions. I really did. But, I told Bryan, “No matter what the decision is, he won the fight.” I say, “No matter what the decision is you won the fight.” And–but always in the back of my mind–I’ve been through this so many times with Pernell Whitaker and Chavez Senior, with Pernell Whitaker, Oscar De La Hoya, with Erislandy Lara and Paul Williams. So, nothing surprised me. But, this was really a blowout by Bryan Vera. And for them to give Julio Jr. a unanimous decision was–it was really ludicrous.

Mr. Artie Pelullo – Just to add what Ronnie and Bryan said, he clearly won the fight. In the 10th round, I was sitting with Josh from my office. The bottom line is that he’s a powerful kid. And I knew that if the 10th round went the way we thought it would Bryan would win a unanimous decision. Never thought in my mind that it would so erroneous the scores and so bizarre. I mean, even to this day people are talking about the scores. Even Bob Arum, who promoted the other guy, who has to say–who promoted Chavez. He says, “Well, it was a close fight. Six, four, I call it even.” Even he says that Marty Denkin was off and so was Gwen. I mean, Gwen she’s just bizarre. I mean, she shouldn’t be judging anymore. But, in the meantime where we’re going from here is a rematch and everybody wants to see it. And I understand that Marc Abrams took a poll. There was 60 reporters, 56 saw Bryan win and four saw a draw and nobody saw Chavez winning. So, clearly it’s a bad situation for boxing because it has to be rectified. The only way it gets rectified is another fight in Texas in the state where Bryan’s from. That’s where it’s at right now so far.

Operator – As a reminder, if you would like to ask a question, you may do so by pressing star and then one on your telephone keypad. We do have a question from the line of Lem Satterfield with RingTV.com. Your line is live.

Mr. Lem Satterfield – Yeah. Artie, how you doing?

Mr. Artie Pelullo – Hey, Lem. I’m good, bud.

Mr. Lem Satterfield – Hey, I talked to your buddy, Joe DeGuardia, and I actually talked to Lantle [sp]. You just mentioned where do we go from here. How much pressure in your mind–and I don’t know if you’ve talked to Joe. How much pressure is on the judges in Florida in that fight in particular with Cotto-Rodriguez, which is very similar in my mind to this one where Chavez was the A side and Cotto is the A side. Do you see rightly or wrongly there being any pressure on that situation?

Mr. Artie Pelullo – Well, let me just say this to you. You would hope that they would play it straight. I mean, you would hope that they would see the fight, who’s winning the fight and not who’s supposed to win the fight, but you don’t know, Lem, because look what happens. C.J. Ross has–can never withdrawal. So, you would have thought the officials–she gets–she’s forced to resign. You would have thought the officials in California would have taken a page out of what’s going on in Nevada and played it the right way and saw the winner, because he won the fight, not because they wanted to see a certain guy win the fight or have a preconceived idea who won the fight before the event actually took place. So, to answer your question, I have no idea. I have no idea, because part of the problem is with our industry is that the officials are not held accountable for their action. There is no suspension in place. There’s no fines. There’s no review. All of the commissions they stand by their officials right or wrong, which is wrong. I’m a licensed fight promoter. Should I make a mistake, should there be a problem, there are repercussions for me, but there’s nobody that holds the officials accountable. Very few times does anybody say, “Hey, you were wrong. You’re suspended. You’re fined and whatever.” And that’s the basic problem of the officiating, because they’re not held accountable to anybody. So, what they do and as they do it it’s not brought under scrutiny. And what happened in Nevada Keith Kiser got in trouble because he stood by the official blindly, instead of saying nothing and seeing how it played out. He got in trouble with his governor. So, the answer to your question, I have no clue what’s going to happen in Florida. I don’t know the people who are appointing. And you would hope that what goes on in Florida will be a lot better than what happened in California.

Mr. Lem Satterfield – Okay, now let me–along those lines really even though you’re going to Texas, and I’d like Bryan–is he–Bryan on the line?

Mr. Marc Abrams – Yeah, Bryan’s here.

Mr. Lem Satterfield – Okay, this is for you, Bryan, and for Ronnie. Really even though you’re going to Texas you don’t know what’s going to happen. So, my question is, Bryan, Ronnie, Artie, how do each of you go through a whole promotion, a whole training camp, not knowing for sure whether (A) Chavez is going to come in at the weight he’s supposed to and (B) you’re going to get what you perceive to be a fair shake? Starting with Bryan, how do you put this all behind you?

Mr. Bryan Vera – Obviously, you just go get ready. You don’t really put it behind you, but I’m not going to just stop boxing and give up because of what happened. I’m going to go back and get with Ronnie and get with those guys and talk to Artie. And like Ronnie was telling me earlier, we got to make sure there’s stipulations in the contracts before we sign everything that there’s real punishments, not these little punishments that he can afford, like what he got last time. I mean, we got to put real punishments to where he’s [unintelligible] to not do these things. You know what I mean? And as far as the judges and everything, I mean I don’t know really how to control that. I just know that we have to control Chavez, make sure he comes to the final weight. And I got to let Ronnie and let Artie and Dave Watson, let them guys handle that. And I got to go back to camp and get ready.

Mr. Lem Satterfield – Ronnie?

Mr. Ronnie Shields – Yes, I think that we can’t worry about the judges. The most important thing is to get Bryan ready. Get him in great shape again and go over the game plan again. And there’s always some stuff that we can go back and change up just a little bit from the last fight. But, as far as the weight is concerned, I think the next time we have to put in the contract that if he doesn’t make weight it’s going to cost him half a million dollars, simple as that, and I think that that’s only fair. This guy walks away with a lot of money, but he tried to dictate everything. He dictated the weight. He dictated the cancellations and all of this stuff. And Bryan he just had to sit back and wait until the fight happened. And when the fight did happen Bryan just did what he was supposed to do and he won the fight. So, I think this next fight come up then they have to abide by the rules or there’s not going to be a fight.

Mr. Lem Satterfield – Artie, is there anymore pressure on you? Is there anymore pressure on you right now to make it a more–have more control in the situation? What’s your thought?

Mr. Artie Pelullo – Well, I agree with everything that Ronnie and Bryan said. Control’s very difficult now. The way you do it is like they said, you put things in the contract, and he has to live up to what he signs. At the end of the day it depends on how much he wants to be a fighter. I mean–and they’re right, about the officiating, I’m going to go down there early. If everything goes in place and we get the rematch, I’m going to go down there early. I’ll talk to the Texas Commission. I want to have input on who the officials will be as far as–you’re not allowed to have–input who you want, but you can strike people. I’ll get more involved with that as well. But, at the end of the day you can’t control a human being. You can put it in a contract what he’s supposed to do. And whether he lives up to that is a different story altogether. I can’t control my children. I mean–and they love me. So, how am I going to control anybody else?

Mr. Lem Satterfield – Thank you very much. Appreciate it.

Mr. Artie Pelullo – You got it.

Mr. Lem Satterfield – Thanks for having the call.

Operator – Our next question comes from the line of Brendan Montenegro with roundbyroundboxing.com. Your line is live.

Mr. Brendan Montenegro – Hey, Bryan, how’s everything? My question is as far as weight limit, you started off at one weight and it was changed a few times after that. Are you looking to push it if you do get the rematch to stay at 168 or would you do like a medium of 170 and leave it at that, no if and or buts? And the other question is do you feel that the CompuBox numbers were right that you only landed 176 out of 734 punches compared to his 125 out of 328?

Mr. Bryan Vera – You asking me?

Mr. Brendan Montenegro – Yeah–.

Mr. Artie Pelullo – –That question’s for you, Bryan.

Mr. Brendan Montenegro – Yeah, Bryan.

Mr. Bryan Vera – I don’t even know about the CompuBox punches. I felt like I landed a lot of punches. But, as far as the weight, yeah, he has to be at 168. I think Ronnie agrees with that as well, I believe. I think that we have to make him weigh 168. I have no business fighting at 170 or over 170. I come in at 60 to fight to 68. So, I don’t see why I am fighting at 171.

Mr. Brendan Montenegro – Do you feel you lost a little power moving up or you’re just not comfortable at that weight and you feel that 168 is the max for you?

Mr. Bryan Vera – No, I just feel like it’s their problem. Obviously, I’m bigger and stronger than everybody at 60–a lot of people at 60, but at 168 I also feel strong. But, when we started going over there I’m dealing with a heavyweight–come down and fight like a heavyweight. I mean, for me, I’m trying to make more sense of my career and trying to make a fair playing field. So, I’m thinking 168 is the limit.

Mr. Brendan Montenegro – All right, thank you.

Operator – Our next question comes from the line of Norm Frauenheim with 15 Rounds. Your line is live.

Mr. Norm Frauenheim – Hi, Artie. I got one question for you. In your talks for the rematch did Bob say that he talked to Julio Jr.? And what’s your sense on whether–I mean given his unreliability through this and prior fights, what do you think the chances are that Julio Jr. will agree to a rematch?

Mr. Artie Pelullo – Bob did talk to junior. He said he was interested in a rematch. And I think he needs to do it, because his own fan base is giving him a hard time. I mean, there are many reports down in Mexico that they’re disappointed with him. He didn’t win the fight. He got a gift. And in that world down there it’s very important to be macho, to be standup, and they’re telling him for him to rematch himself. So, I actually think the rematch is very good–a very good chance to come forward. There’s no fights for him right now between now and the end of the year or January or February. Other guys are tied up. So, this would also help us get the rematch.

Mr. Norm Frauenheim – Okay, okay. How about–what do you think, Ronnie? You think he’ll agree to it?

Mr. Ronnie Shields – I think he will agree to it. I mean, I think he–I think he’s on the spot right now. If he don’t agree to it that means he know he can’t beat Bryan, simple as that. If you was a confident fighter–and you could blame it on whatever he want to blame it on, but he know he lost. In his heart he knows he lost that fight. And that’s probably why he won’t take him if he doesn’t agree to it.

Mr. Norm Frauenheim – All right, thanks, fellows. Good luck on that.

Mr. Artie Pelullo – You got it.

Operator – Our next question comes from the line of Steve Gallegos with thetitlefight.com. Your line is live.

Mr. Steve Gallegos – Bryan, how you are today, buddy?

Mr. Bryan Vera – Doing great. How are you?

Mr. Steve Gallegos – Very good. Man, hey, great performance. Man, you definitely won that fight. Yeah, Chavez definitely got the gift. And during the fight, especially in the later rounds, particularly the 9th, Chavez did what boxings [sp] version of what flopping is. And obviously Lou Moret had no–was having no part of that. Overall based on the bad officiating, how would you guys rate Lou Moret’s refereeing performance?

Mr. Bryan Vera – For me being [unintelligible], he did a great job. He took no points away because he knew what I was doing was fair. And I think he knew that Chavez was complaining a lot and doing it because he didn’t want to be in there. He was getting roughed up and complaining because he could, but I thought the referee did a great job.

Mr. Steve Gallegos – Absolutely–.

Mr. Artie Pelullo – –The referee was terrific. Lou made him fight and didn’t take any guff from him about all his complaining about the low blows and the head butts. Lou was terrific. He let them become–he let them fight, and the kid didn’t want to fight. He was moaning and groaning the whole night long.

Mr. Ronnie Shields – Yeah, I think–.

Mr. Steve Gallegos – –Yeah, absolutely–.

Mr. Ronnie Shields – –He was looking for help. He was looking for help the whole night long. He knew he was losing these rounds, and he was looking for the referee to try to take a point away from Bryan. And everything Bryan threw was legal. He didn’t do nothing illegal. Chavez was trying to use his head. I mean, he was trying to put up all stops. He was looking for help. He got help from the judges, but not from the referee.

Mr. Steve Gallegos – Yeah, absolutely. I didn’t see no dirty play, no elbows, no low shot. In fact his trunks looked very high as well. So, yeah, absolutely. And basically with the high Nielsen ratings and the controversial decision, if a rematch goes forward do you guys feel that you have leverage in negotiating a higher purse on Bryan’s end?

Mr. Artie Pelullo – Most definitely. Most definitely. Because, he’s going to have to make less and Bryan’s going to have to make more. So–and then–and we’re dealing with that as things go along, but most definitely.

Mr. Steve Gallegos – Okay. And, Bryan, you looked very comfortable at the higher weight. Even though you had to come in at 173 you looked sharp. You didn’t look like that it was too much for you. I mean, you’re used to fighting right around 160. Do you think you’re going to stay at super middleweight from here on out or are you going to go back down to 160?

Mr. Bryan Vera – I mean, I always–I talk to Ronnie, talk to those guys after we–after the next fight, but most likely if we go back to 60 where there’s a lot more Opportunity the full weight class there’s a lot of good talent and a lot of big fights. So, I’ll get with those guys and we’ll figure it out.

Mr. Steve Gallegos – Okay. Well, that’s all the questions I have today. Thanks, Artie. Thanks, Ronnie. Thanks, Bryan, for having this conference call, kind of addressing some of the issues of the fight. And you all have a good one. Good luck the next time out.

Mr. Ronnie Shields – Thank you–.

Mr. Bryan Vera – –Thanks.

Operator – Our next question comes from the line of Karl Freitag with Fight News. Your line is live.

Mr. Karl Freitag – Hello. I was wondering the decision to cut the fight from 12 to 10 rounds was that–looking in retrospect do you think that was a good decision considering Bryan seemed to have a lot more energy at the end of the fight?

Mr. Ronnie Shields – Yes, I think it was a good decision, because, look, Chavez, I’m telling you, he was 200 pounds–easily 200 pounds. And I know Bryan. I know what kind of condition he was in. He was in great condition, but I know coming down the stretch that Chavez was going to try to put his weight on him, and he was going to try to be fitting down on a lot of his shots. So, I didn’t want to take the chance. I know Bryan was faster than him regardless, but still at the rate Bryan was throwing punches on a big guy like that. And people have to understand Bryan’s power was still there, but Chavez was able to assault more because of how big he was. And I still hear the same question, “Well, when Chavez hit him he [unintelligible] Bryan.” Well, if a 200 pound man hit you, he’s going to rock you every time, but he only hit Bryan with a couple good shots that kind of made Bryan go back a little bit, but at the same time Bryan worked him. Bryan threw over 700 punches in this fight and that’s a lot of punches for a super middleweight, let alone a guy that’s had to fight at a light heavyweight. I mean, look at the light heavyweight average. Go and look at the light heavyweight average and look at what Bryan did and you’ll see why I cut it down to 10 rounds.

Mr. Karl Freitag – Before the fight did you look at the officials and give any thought considering that like Gwen Adair’s 80 and Marty Denkin’s 79? Was that a consideration to complain or was there even an option because this wasn’t a title fight?

Mr. Artie Pelullo – Who’s that addressed to?

Mr. Karl Freitag – Anybody on the Vera team.

Mr. Artie Pelullo – Well, first of all, they didn’t appoint the officials until Friday. Second of all it’s impossible to replace them unless you have cause. So, the answer to that is there’s nothing you can do unless you have enough time and you have to have cause to replace them.

Mr. Karl Freitag – Yeah. Okay. And you’re talking about doing this fight in Texas. I know Chavez has a history in Texas. He wasn’t tested after one of his fights and that led to some situation. Would–do you consider Texas to be a neutral ground or more Chavez territory or more Vera territory?

Mr. Artie Pelullo – Well, if you’re asking–Bryan, why don’t you answer that first, and then I’ll take it, and then you and Ronnie go first.

Mr. Bryan Vera – I mean, for me, I think it’s more my territory. Obviously it depends on where it is, too. San Antonio he has a lot of people, but I’m right here in Austin right down the street. So, I don’t know. I mean, the judging–I seem to be all right with the judges over here. [Unintelligible] gives a fair shake. And I mean you can never tell with them but I think it gives me more of an advantage that we’re here in Texas for sure.

Mr. Artie Pelullo – And if you’re asking me, I think that, like I said earlier in the conversation, I would go to Texas and sit down with them and see what’s going on and who they would appoint and have a little bit better handle in it. I don’t think Dickie Cole, who is the–like their Executive Director wants to be in a position to be criticized that the fight would be another scandal like it was in California.

Mr. Karl Freitag – Okay, great. Thanks very much.

Mr. Artie Pelullo – You got it.

Operator – Our next question comes from the line of David Greisman with boxingscene.com. Your line is live.

Mr. David Griesman – Actually, my questions have already been asked. Thank you.

Operator – Our next question comes from the line of James Myer [sp] with Tha Boxing Voice. Your line is live. James Myer, your line is live.

Mr. James Myer – Sorry, about that. I was on mute. But, anyway, this question is for Bryan and Ronnie. I just wanted to know if you guys have gone back and scored the fight? And if so, have you guys–did you guys see anything, any actual footage of the fight that you might change going into a rematch that won’t allow the judges to score the way they did on Saturday?

Mr. Ronnie Shields – Go ahead, Bryan.

Mr. Bryan Vera – I would get with Ronnie about it, but I mean to me it looked like I won the fight more clearly than [unintelligible] but I would have to just go back to the gym with Ronnie and let him determine on whether I need to make changes now. But, as far as myself, I felt like I did what I had to do to win it and it seemed clear to me.

Mr. Ronnie Shields – And as for me, I haven’t watched a fight back. I mean, I don’t need to watch it back really. I caught it the other night, and I saw like the last two rounds of the fight but that was it. But, I mean, look, I saw it live and I judge every round–every round for my fighters I judge it and I judge it fairly, and if Bryan was behind I would have told him that he was behind during the fight, but I didn’t tell him he was behind because he wasn’t. He was winning the fight and that’s why I just kept telling him–every now and then Bryan would put his hands down and get hit with a shot. And I just told him, “Don’t be macho. You don’t have to be macho. Just stick to the game plan.” And he went back and he did that. And as far as a rematch is concerned, it’s not in me to tell my fighter to train because he’s got to impress–because he’s got to do something special because he’s fighting Chavez Jr. in the next fight. No. We train. We put the fight plan together and that’s the way we do it. We can’t–because we don’t know how judges think. We don’t know how they’re going to be that night. We just got to do the best that we can possibly do, get in great shape, follow the game plan and win the fight. And whether the judges see it that way or not, in my heart of hearts we know Bryan won the fight. That just plain and simple as that. Everybody thought he won the fight. So, that’s enough for me. And in the next fight we have to train harder and just add a few more wrinkles to what we already know how to do.

Mr. James Myer – Also, regarding the weight–you guys being a little bit stricter on the weight loss policy have you guys thought of any sort of rehydration clause or are you guys that far into negotiations where you talked about stuff like that?

Mr. Artie Pelullo – If you’re asking me, we’re not–if he makes 68 and that’s agreed upon weight, it’d be pretty hard to put a number in there that he can’t be heavy than whatever, but I don’t know the answer to that question because we don’t have a fight yet. We haven’t had–we don’t have 100 percent from him, and HBO is hemming and hawing at this time as they’re looking at their budget. So, if it’s not then–going to be on HBO or then it would be on pay per view. So, right now, we’re trying to put together that the fight does happen before the end of the year on the 7th or the 14th.

Mr. James Myer – All right, great. That’s all the questions I had. Thanks a lot for your time.

Mr. Artie Pelullo – I’d just like to say something. I need to get on a plane. So, if anybody wants to talk–ask me anymore questions that’s fine. If not, I’m going to get off. Everybody else stay on with Bryan and with Ronnie. So, if there’s nothing else for me, I’ll wait a second and find out, and then I’m going to get on this plane.

Operator – Our next question comes from the line of Robert Morales with Los Angeles Daily News. Your line is live.

Mr. Robert Morales – Thank you. Yeah, I actually have–you’re okay, Artie. I have one question for Bryan and one for Ronnie.

Mr. Artie Pelullo – Okay, then I’m going to say goodbye. Ronnie, and, Bryan, and Marc, you guys keep talking. Thanks, guys, all the reporters–.

Mr. Ronnie Shields – –Thank you–.

Mr. Artie Pelullo – –For coming onboard. We need your help. And because of what you’ve done and because of the outcry and the outrage on how the decision went there could be a bigger fight in the second fight and that’s what we’re working on. So, everybody have a good day. I’ll be on cell. I’ll be in LA. Chow.

Mr. Bryan Vera – Take care.

Mr. Artie Pelullo – Bye, guys. Bye, Ronnie. Bye, Bryan–.

Mr. Ronnie Shields – –Bye.

Mr. Bryan Vera – Take care.

Mr. Robert Morales – Okay, so, Bryan, I’m curious, immediately after the decision was announced, what went through your head?

Mr. Bryan Vera – I mean nothing really. I just felt sick to my stomach, man, because I mean, you heard the crowd. The crowd booed. And I just knew that I won the fight, man. We all felt the same way. I really had no thoughts. I was kind of disgusted, man. So, I just prayed, hopefully, we can do this again.

Mr. Robert Morales – Ronnie, I’m wondering. I know that this is not what you want to see a decision that your man apparently deserved it and didn’t get. But, let me ask you this, Bryan did give a very, very good performance, one of the best, and I know he’s gotten better recently as time has gone on. We all know that. I thought this was a terrific performance by him. Do you think that even though he did not get this decision that his performance alone helped him in his career?

Mr. Ronnie Shields – I think without a doubt. I think people have to also look at all the hard work Bryan put into this fight. Sometimes it takes a name to make you fight your best. Let me tell you something, we had 17 weeks of hard work. And every time the fight got canceled, I brought him down a little bit, and then when it was on we picked it back up, and we had to do this like four times. So–and Bryan didn’t complain one time. I’ve been with guys before that have complained, “Oh, this ain’t going to never happen,” this and that, and they get themselves down, but Bryan just kept pushing and pushing. And I think it showed. It reflected in the fight that he worked hard that he definitely worked harder than Chavez did. And for them not to see that and not to give him the fight that’s–to me these guys didn’t do their job. And someone said something about their age. It don’t matter how old you are. If you can see the fight, realize that both guys trained. They trained hard. They–this is their living. This is what they do for a living. And it don’t affect these guys in one way or another. They don’t care that they gave the fight to a guy who didn’t deserve it. And that’s the thing about is not one of these judges have come out and said one thing. “This is what I saw. This is what it is.” No, nothing. You heard nothing. Because, I’m telling you, I don’t know if they was paid off. They could have been. Like Vergil Hunter said, he saw some suspicious things going on around wayside. Hey, maybe it was. And again these judges should have a heart and come out and say, “Oh, yeah, we took some money to give him the fight,” or “I made a mistake. I didn’t–maybe I didn’t look at it the way I supposed to be looking at it.” Say something and let the public know. If they call themselves fair and honest, then come out fair and honest and say what you believe now.

Mr. Robert Morales – I see. I see. Outstanding. All right, Ronnie, thanks. Man, I appreciate it.

Mr. Ronnie Shields – Thank you.

Operator – Our next question comes from the line of Gina Carano with TRU Boxing Headz. Your line is live.

Ms. Gina Carano – Hi, Bryan. This is Gina. How you doing?

Mr. Bryan Vera – I’m doing good, Gina. How are you?

Ms. Gina Carano – Good. My question’s for you. I have just more of a statement and then a little bit of a question. I’m sure you know that Twitter totally blew up that night. It was out of control. I mean, Chavez-Vera was one of the top trends on Twitter. And I know it’s one thing for boxing fans to say it’s unfair that my fighter lost, everybody was saying it, Bryan. Networks were saying it. Writers were saying it. Other boxers were saying it. Fans were saying it. So, I mean I definitely know that the judges say that you lost. We know that you didn’t. But, how did it feel to gain that much respect and support from some incredible people?

Mr. Bryan Vera – That part of the whole thing made me feel good just because I was a little down after the fight. I mean–and it was just a bad–it was a bad situation to be in, but all the support and all the people that were talking on Twitter, Facebook, and all those things, they definitely brought me back up and they made me realize that I got ripped off. You know what I mean? When you have that many people and that many judges and that many press [unintelligible] people calling me the winner then that tells you right there.

Ms. Gina Carano – Absolutely. That’s my only question. Thanks.

Mr. Bryan Vera – Thank you.

Operator – Our next question comes from the Brian Fogg with Leave it in the RinG. Your line is live.

Mr. Brian Fogg – Actually, I had a question for Artie, who already left. So, I’ll just drop him an e-mail. Thank you though.

Operator – We have no further questions in queue at this time.

Mr. Marc Abrams – Okay, just want to thank everyone for being on the call, Bryan and Ronnie as well. If you guys need to get in touch with Bryan, everyone has my e-mail address, and I’ll be able to accommodate you guys as this process develops over the next couple of months. So, thanks again for–everyone for being on, and we’ll talk to you guys soon. Thank you.

Mr. Bryan Vera – All right, very good.

Mr. Ronnie Shields – Take care, Bryan.

Mr. Bryan Vera – Ronnie, I’ll talk to you soon, man.

Mr. Ronnie Shields – All right, bye.

Operator – That concludes this afternoon’s teleconference. You may now disconnect your lines.

Bobby D Presents Signs Top Rising Tijuana Prospect Kenia Enriquez!

(San Diego, CA) – California Hall of Fame promoter Bobby DePhilippis and his company Bobby D Presents recently inked rising female Tijuana prospect Kenia Enriquez to an exclusive promotional agreement. The undefeated Enriquez (7-0,

Kenia Enriquez
4 KOs) is considered the best female fighter out of Tijuana since the “Aztec Princess” Jackie Nava. With Nava recently taking on the challenge of motherhood head on, many see the nineteen-year-old Kenia as the next female superstar of the region.

With over 80 amateur fights and a bronze medal in the Mexican Nationals in her last year as an amateur in 2011, Enriquez is known for her fan-friendly boxer/puncher style and killer instinct. Enriquez is presently ranked as the #13 flyweight in the world by the World Boxing Council (WBC).

“She’s extremely skilled and seems to hit very hard,” DePhilippis stated. “I’ve been keeping my eye on her since she went pro last year and when her Tijuana promoter Guillermo Mayen asked me to partner up with him in her career, I jumped at the chance. I think she is a future world champion.”

DePhilippis mentioned he looks to bring her stateside later this year or early in 2014.

Enriquez is slated to headline the second installment of Mayen Promotions’ all-female fight card programmed for Wednesday, October 23rd. In last year’s event, Enriquez defeated Carol Castro via second round knockout.

It is rumored that Enriquez will face former title challenger Maricela “Baby” Quintero (11-4-1) in her next fight.

ALEJANDRO LUNA HEADLINES AT THE PICO RIVERA SPORTS ARENA SATURDAY OCT, 19

October 3, 2013 – Gary Shaw Productions in association with La Noria Entertainment present a special night of boxing on October 19, 2013 at the Pico Rivera Sports Arena, in Whittier, CA. Hometown hero and undefeated lightweight sensation, Alejandro “El Charrito” Luna (14-0, 11 KOs), will challenge crafty veteran Daniel Attah (28-16-1, 11 KOs) in the 10-round main event attraction. The bout will in the lightweight division. A live concert will take place after the fight where fans can enjoy the festive music of Los Canelos and Rebeldes. A portion of the proceeds will go to the Mexican flood victims.

Luna, a popular figure in his community, is excited to be fighting at home where his fans are expected to come out in masses. This marks the first time Luna will be fighting in his hometown and he’s promising to deliver a great night of boxing.

“It’s been a dream of mine to fight in my hometown ever since I started boxing at age nine.” said Luna. “The Pico Arena is walking distance from my house so I want to perform at my very best for all the fans that are coming to see me fight. Gary Shaw is doing a fantastic job and I want to thank him for bringing this fight to Whittier. I’ll be gunning for the knockout.”

Alejandro has stopped three of his last four opponents and looks to continue his winning ways as he stated, “I like to throw hard punches to the body and wear my opponent down. If I see that my opponent is hurt, then everyone who’s seen me fight knows I’m going for the KO. I’ll be happy if the knockout comes early, but will be ready to go the distance if need be.”

Gary Shaw understands the significance of promoting Luna in his hometown. He feels Luna can be a star within the Mexican community.

“Luna has deep rooted ties to his local community.” Shaw said. “In addition to being a great boxer, Alejandro has also followed his family’s life long tradition of competing in Mexican rodeo’s which is very popular in Mexican culture. Most of the males in his family have competed in the sport of rodeos, “Charreadas” in Spanish and Alejandro has kept that tradition alive on top of his great boxing career. I see Luna becoming a big star in the near future.”
