Three new preliminary contests added to World Series of Fighting 6 lineup

The lineup for World Series of Fighting’s first-ever trip to Florida continues to fill with the addition of three new preliminary contests, including lightweights Luiz “Buscape” Firmino (16-6) vs. Jacob “Feelgood” Volkmann (16-4), featherweights Nick LoBosco (6-0) vs. Fabio Mello (11-6) and featherweights Alexandre “Pulga” Pimentel (12-1) vs. Jade Porter (9-3).

The night’s NBCSN-televised main card is headlined by the first title fight in World Series of Fighting history, as Josh “The People’s Warrior” Burkman (26-9) meets Steve Carl (20-3) for the promotion’s first welterweight belt.

The new matchups help to fill out World Series of Fighting 6’s preliminary card, which takes place Oct. 26 at BankUnited Center in Coral Gables, Fla., and precedes the evening’s NBSCN live network broadcast. The preliminary bouts stream on World Series of Fighting’s official website, WSOF.com.

Brazilian veteran Firmino has fought around the globe, including stints in Japanese promotions DREAM and PRIDE. Firmino currently boasts a three-fight win streak and recently picked up the Florida-based Championship Fighting Alliance’s lightweight title. He now meets Volkmann, a 10-time UFC veteran who debuted for World Series of Fighting in June, earning a dominating decision win over veteran grappler Lyle Beerbohm.

The 29-year-old LoBosco brings an undefeated mark to the cage. The Missouri-based athlete turned pro in 2011 and has since rattled off six-straight wins. Four of the wins have come by stoppage, including three victories that were earned in the first minute of the fight. He now gets the biggest test of his career in Brazilian veteran Mello. Fighting professionally since 2001, Mello is currently enjoying the longest win streak of his career with seven straight wins. An Imperial Athletics fighter, Mello’s career is dotted with the names of true MMA royalty in past opponents like Jose Aldo, Takanori Gomi and Masakazu Imanari, among others.

A former Brazilian jiu-jitsu world champion, Pimentel looks to rebound from the first loss of his professional MMA career, after falling short against Rick Glenn at March’s World Series of Fighting 2 event. He now meets Arizona’s Jade Porter, who trains at Power MMA Team. Porter makes his World Series of Fighting debut.

With the additions to the card, the full World Series of Fighting 6 lineup includes:

Tacoma, WA (September 30th, 2013) – Halquist Productions is returning to the Emerald Queen Casino this Saturday with the Northwest’s premier MMA promotion, CageSport. Headlining the 10 fight professional MMA card will be Lacey’s Harrison Bevens (6-1) taking on Enumclaw’s Justin Harrington 5-0) for the CageSport lightweight title. In the semi-main event, StrikeForce veteran, Cory Devela (8-5) will look to make his comeback to the sport in a match up with Everett’s Byron Sutton (7-3).

A limited amount of tickets are still available for CageSport XXVII and can be purchased at the Emerald Queen Casino box office or through Ticketmaster. Prices start at $35. Northwest fight fans are encouraged to get their tickets early as the showroom is expected to be sold out.

In what will be the toughest fight of each fighter’s career so far, Bevens and Harrington are gearing up for their first five round battle due to the title being on the line. Harrington, training out of Jeff Hougland’s Combat Sport and Fitness in Enumclaw, is coming off a just as impressive victory at CageSport XXVI. After starting off his professional career with two knockout victories, Harrington has finished his last three fights via first round submission; including his victory over Levi Peaslee with an arm triangle choke 1:36 into the first round at CageSport XXVI

Cory Devela, training with Dennis Hallman at his gym in Lakewood, last stepped into the cage in 2010 in what turned into his third consecutive loss fighting for StrikeForce. He’ll be looking to right the ship and strive once again to catch national MMA attention.

The undercard seen below features a thundering lineup full of local Northwest fighters:

Ohio native Moore seeking championship glory in his second home Saturday at Mohegan Sun

UNCASVILLE, Conn. (Oct. 1st, 2013) — There’s nothing boxing fans love more than a champion, so the best way for Cleveland native Michael Moore (12-0, 6 KOs) to endear himself to the Connecticut crowd Saturday night would be to leave the ring with a new piece of hardware.

The undefeated light middleweight prospect will put his unbeaten record on the line Saturday, Oct. 5th, 2013 when he faces the dangerous Alexis Hloros (16-5-2, 12 KOs) for the vacant World Boxing Council U.S. National Boxing Council (WBC USNBC) title in the 10-round main event of Classic Entertainment & Sports’ “Showdown At The Sun” card at Mohegan Sun Casino.

Living and training in New Haven, Conn., under the guidance of his new manager, Massimo Liguori, Moore has found a second home 500 miles east of his hometown in Ohio. After linking up with Liguori a year ago, Moore introduced himself to his new fan base in May with a unanimous-decision win over Doel Carrasquillo at Mohegan. Saturday will be toughest test to date; Hloros, a Mount Clemens, Mich., native, hasn’t fought since suffering a knockout loss to unbeaten prospect and world-title challenger Demetrius Andrade in September of 2009, but he’s gone toe-to-toe with some of the best in his weight class, including Andrade and James Kirkland, whom he faced in 2011. Hloros’ best stretch came in 2008 when he finished 7-0-1 with 6 knockouts.

The Moore-Hloros title fight is one of seven bouts on “Showdown At The Sun.” New Haven native Edwin Soto (9-0-2, 4 KOs) and Hartford’s Zack Ramsey (5-0, 3 KOs), who need no introduction to the Connecticut crowd, will put their unbeaten records on the line against one another in the eight-round welterweight co-feature.

“Showdown At The Sun” also features the return of New Haven welterweight Christian Lao (4-2, 2 KOs), who will end a 15-month layoff when he battles Envicii Dixon (2-2-1, 1 KO) of Lancaster, Pa., in a four-round bout. Lao is one of six New Haven fighters on the undercard; the city will also be represented by heavyweight Solomon Maye, who will make his professional debut in a four-round bout against Cortland, N.Y., native Randy Smith (1-1); and light heavyweight Charles Foster (4-0, 2 KOs) who fight for the first time since June of 2012 in a six-round bout against the tough Taneal Goyco (5-6-1, 2 KOs) of Philadelphia. The 6-foot-1 Goyco is no stranger to fighting in his opponent’s backyard; he recently fought in Delaware in August and beat hometown favorite Frankie Filippone by majority decision.

Also fighting out of New Haven, light middleweight David Wilson (1-0) will battle veteran Danny Lugo (2-4, 1 KO) of Harrisburg, Pa., in a four-round bout. Lightweight Edwin Cotto (1-1, 1 KO) of Willimantic, Conn., will face newcomer Jamar Coleman of Lancaster in a four-round bout. Cotto debuted at Mohegan in January with a win over Ian James.

Tickets for “Showdown At The Sun” are $40, $65 and $125 and can be purchased by calling CES at 401.724.2253/2254, online at www.cesboxing.com or www.ticketmaster.com, or at the Mohegan Sun Box Office. All fights and fighters are subject to change.

Fight Network Presents Golden Boy LIVE: Ali vs. Krupp this Monday, Sept. 30, at 9 p.m. ET

Toronto – Fight Network, the world’s premier 24/7 television channel dedicated to complete coverage of combat sports, will present a live broadcast of Golden Boy Live! this Monday, September 30, at 9 p.m. ET, headlined by the Golden Boy debut of undefeated welterweight and 2008 U.S. Olympian Sadam “World Kid” Ali in his hometown of Brooklyn against “Smokin” Jay Krupp at Barclays Center.

In the co-main event, Carlos Molina was forced to withdraw from his bout against Michael “The Artist” Perez due to flu-like symptoms, so tough Mexican prospect Miguel “Dinamita” Zuniga will step up to face “The Artist” in a 10-round fight for the vacant WBA Fedelatin super lightweight title.

Plus, 2012 U.S. Olympian “Sir” Marcus Browne of Staten Island, fellow Olympic team member Jamel Herring of Coram, NY, The Bronx’s Emmanuel Gonzalez, Brooklyn’s Claude Staten Jr. and Maryland’s D’Mitrius Ballard will all be in action to help Barclays Center celebrate its one-year anniversary.

Ali vs. Krupp is presented by Golden Boy Promotions and sponsored by Corona and O’Reilly Auto Parts. Barclays Center doors open at 7:00 p.m. ET with the first bell sounding at 7:45 p.m. ET. The Fight Network broadcast airs live at 9 p.m. ET with a replay scheduled for October 6 at 11 p.m. ET.

“Brooklyn has become our second home, so it’s only fitting that we come back to help celebrate Barclays Center’s first anniversary with a stacked card,” said Oscar De La Hoya, president of Golden Boy Promotions. “The recently signed Sadam Ali is a perfect headliner, as he is a Brooklyn native and unbeaten former Olympian. Plus we have Michael Perez vs. Carlos Molina in an explosive matchup between two fighters hungry for a big win.”

“As we head into year two, Barclays Center has established itself as the home for major boxing on the East Coast,” said Brett Yormark, CEO of Barclays Center. “We are looking forward to welcoming Brooklyn’s own Sadam Ali and are thrilled to team with Golden Boy Promotions for another great night of boxing at Barclays Center.”

“There’s no place like home,” said Brooklyn fighter Sadam Ali. “I’ve seen some great fights at Barclays Center and I have waited for my name to be called to fight here. Now that day has come and I couldn’t be more excited. This is going to be a performance and a win you won’t forget.”

“Sadam Ali’s a great talent with a bright future, but I’ve been waiting years for an opportunity like this and I can’t let it slide,” said Jay Krupp. “I’ve been a fighter my whole life and that’s what this is going to be on September 30, a fight.”

A decorated amateur boxer who was a Junior Olympic, PAL and Under-19 National Champion, as well as a two-time New York Golden Gloves Champion, 24-year-old Sadam “World Kid” Ali (16-0, 10 KO’s) reached the pinnacle of the amateur game in 2008 when he represented the United States in the Beijing Games. In January of 2009, “World Kid”, who is of Yemen descent, turned professional with a first round technical knockout over Ricky Thompson. Ali has gone on to become a popular fighter in the New York and New Jersey area putting together win after win against increasingly tougher opposition. In his most recent fight on October 27, he knocked out Ronnie Warrior Jr. in the second round.

A native of New Orleans, Louisiana now making his home in Catskill, New York, “Smokin” Jay Krupp (17-5, 8 KO’s) is a nine-year pro who gained notoriety for being trained by the man who brought Mike Tyson to prominence, Kevin Rooney. Winner of three straight fights, the 30-year-old Krupp most recently won a hard fought eight-round unanimous decision over Milton Ramos on June 21.

Newark’s Michael “The Artist” Perez (18-1-2, 10 KO’s) is unbeaten in five of his last six bouts with the only loss to recently crowned World Champion Omar “Panterita” Figueroa Jr. and a technical draw with Lonnie Smith due to a cut from a clash of heads. Unbeaten in New York, Perez hopes to keep the streak going on September 30.

A native of Tijuana now fighting out of San Diego, 26-year-old Miguel “Dinamita” Zuniga (13-2, 8 KO’s) has won four of his last five bouts, with his only loss in that stretch coming against unbeaten hot prospect Daquan Arnett. Zuniga has the opportunity to make a name for himself by defeating Perez, his highly respected foe, on national television.

Unbeaten as a professional, Staten Island’s “Sir” Marcus Browne (6-0, 6 KO’s) has made a seamless adjustment from the amateurs to the pros. Fresh from a knockout victory over Robert Hill on the first Golden Boy Live! card on August 19, the 22-year-old will take on Lamont Williams in his fourth appearance at Barclays Center in a six round televised light heavyweight fight.

Gardena, California’s Lamont Williams (5-1-1, 2 KO’s) has rebounded from a 1-1 start to his career to go unbeaten in his next five bouts, leading him to the biggest fight of his career against Browne. To win, the 33-year-old will have to be firing on all cylinders, but with high risk always comes a high reward as he looks to upset the hometown fan favorite.

In a featherweight swing bout scheduled for four or six rounds, The Bronx’ Emmanuel Gonzalez (12-0, 7 KO’s) is back in action, looking to follow up his Golden Boy Live! debut win over Michael Doyle in August with a victory over fellow unbeaten Noel Echevarria (11-0, 6 KO’s) of Guayama, Puerto Rico.

Rounding out the card will be Brooklyn’s Claude Staten Jr. (1-0) who will return to Barclays Center to face Philadelphia’s Derrick Bivins (1-1-1) in a four-round super bantamweight bout, highly-regarded super middleweight D’Mitrius Ballard (2-0, 2 KO’s) of Temple Hills, Maryland battles Lynchburg, Virginia’s Jess Noriega (2-5, 2 KO’s) in a four-round contest and in the six-round super lightweight opener, 2012 U.S. Olympian Jamel Herring (4-0, 2 KO’s) of Coram, NY hopes to keep his unbeaten streak going against Springfield, Illinois’ Justin Robbins (2-3, 1 KO).

After suffering the only two losses of his professional career in 2012 against Fernando Carcamo and Michael Perez, the 22-year-old roared back, winning three straight, including knockouts over Jorge Romero and Abraham Osuna. Now back in business at 140 pounds, Maldonado Jr. will showcase his talent on the national stage this November.

Twenty-five-year-old Santa Ana, Calif. product Luis Ramos Jr. (23-1, 10 KO’s) quickly rose to the top of the boxing world with wins over Francisco Lorenzo, Ray Beltran and Noe Bolanos, then he suffered his only blemish on his record when a controversial cut caused him to lose to former Olympian Ricardo Williams Jr. in Dec. of 2012. Now fully healed and ready to fight again, Ramos Jr. will look to regain his status at 140 pounds with a big win over Maldonado Jr.

Dusty Hernandez-Harrison To Fight For WBC Youth Welterweight World Championship Nov. 2

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Sept. 26, 2013) – One of boxing’s fastest rising prospects, undefeated welterweight Dusty Hernandez-Harrison from our Nation’s Capital, Washington, D.C., will face the toughest test of his career when he takes on Josh “Pitbull” Torres for the WBC Youth Welterweight World Championship on Nov. 2 at Madison Square Garden Theater on the undercard of the Golovkin vs. Stevens Middleweight Championship clash Live on HBO.

Hernandez-Harrison (17-0, 10 KOs), ranked worldwide No. 40 by the WBC and 19 years of age, will be making the first of what he hopes will be many appearances at “The Mecca of Boxing,” Madison Square Garden.

In his last three fights Hernandez-Harrison has shown the poise and skill of a fighter far beyond his years. On May 18, 2013 he stopped Eddie Soto in the fifth-round before 3,000 fans in his Washington, D.C. hometown. Dusty followed that bout up with a dominant six-round unanimous decision victory over rugged veteran Ben Ankrah at Foxwoods on June 28; and in his last bout on August 23 Hernandez-Harrison scored a fourth-round knockout of Guillermo Valdes, who was 12-4 going into the bout, at Dover Downs Casino.

“Fighting at Madison Square Garden is like a dream come true,” Hernandez-Harrison said. “I have a lot of family in New York and it will be great to fight in front of them. Washington, D.C. is my home and I really appreciate that the DC fans are making the trip to New York to support me,” Hernandez-Harrison added.

“Dusty is training like a World Champion,” said Buddy Harrison, the fighter’s father and trainer. “He understands that this guy is coming to win and take home the Green Belt, and we are preparing for a tough fight; No question about it.”

Torres (12-2, 5KOs) is riding a five-fight win streak and is considered the best welterweight in New Mexico, a state that has produced champions like Johnny Tapia, Danny Romero and, more recently, Austin Trout. The Albuquerque native is trained by Chris Chavez at the Team Tapia Boxing Academy and was formerly under the tutelage of the gym’s namesake.

“I know he had an amazing amateur record, not sure what his record was, but the kid is skilled and it should be a great fight,” Torres recently told GoFightlive.com lead boxing blow-by-blow announcer, Rich Quinones. “I’m blessed to be on this undercard, at MSG on HBO, really excited for this; it should be a great fight for fans.”

Hernandez-Harrison’s promoter, Jeff Fried of All-In Entertainment, has been grooming the young fighter for an opportunity like this since signing him late last year. Fried has kept the fighter busy with six bouts in nine months, with each bout a growth and learning experience for the developing Hernandez-Harrison.

“Dusty’s continued hard work and poise in and out of the ring prepares him well for this championship opportunity,” Fried said. “Dusty is honored to be fighting for the WBC Youth World Championship and has tremendous respect for Madison Square Garden’s and the WBC’s history and tradition within the sport of boxing.”

“This is the type of fight I want,” Hernandez-Harrison said. “I want to fight guys that are going to push me and bring out the best in me.”

“I am honored to be fighting for a WBC Championship,” Hernandez-Harrison said. “This is the kind of fight I have been preparing for my whole career and I won’t let my fans down.”

Mitch Prince Returns on October 11th after Limond Loss

In June this year, Commonwealth title challenger Mitch Prince (11-2) pushed current champion Willie Limond to a close points decision, in what was a good display of boxing from the South African born fighter, he now makes his return to the ring on October 11th at Ravenscraig Sports Facility as he looks to build up to another title challenge.

Looking back at the fight, Prince explains he trained hard for that fight “The training went well, it was definitely the best camp I have been involved with. My coach Jim Love really done well and stepped it up for me. Come fight night I knew I was in the best shape I had been, and you can tell from the performance I put in against Limond ”
While Prince was the underdog going into the fight, he goes on to explain he feels he belongs at title level “After the fight With Willie (Limond) I believe I was well worth my position in the British rankings! I believe I beat Limond and everyone who was there saw that, I matched competitively over the 12 round distance.
“That’s why I put the fight on YouTube cause I wanted everyone else to see my performance, and see that I can compete at that level. I believe after that performance that I deserve British title shots and television exposure. But for the meantime I am working hard in the gym and for my next fight on October 11th with Hungarian Ivan Godor”
The 29 year old adds “I am looking forward to returning against Ivan Godor, I have seen a bit of him on video, and he’s a tough come forward fighter who likes to scrap, but I’m tougher and smarter than him. I look forward to getting between the ropes again, but this time I will be picking up the win as I take him to pieces.
Prospect Boxing presents an Evening of Championship Boxing at the Ravenscraig Sports Centre, Motherwell on Friday October 11th. The Main event sees Iain Butcher take on Hungarian Gabor Molnar for the vacant WBO European Flyweight Title.
The under card sees Martin McCord, Rhys Pagan, Ronnie Clark. Also in action is former commonwealth title challenger Mitch Prince and the Professional Début of JP McGuinness. Tickets are priced at £30 and £40 and available from the fighters or by calling 07912963761
