Arreola destroys Mitchell in one

chris-arreola2
Chris Arreola got back in the Heavyweight picture with a first round destruction of Seth Mitchell in a scheduled twelve round bout at the Fantasy Springs Resort in Indio, California.

Mitchell came out throwing hard shots but got caught with a left hook that hurt him that him hanging on. Arreola laded a hard flurry of punches that sent Mitchell to the canvas. After Mitchell wanted to fight on, which may have been the wrong decision as he ate another fuselage of punches until referee Jack Reiss rescued Mitchell at 2:24 of round one.

Arreola, 242 lbs of Riverside, CA is now 36-3 with 31 knockouts. Mitchell, 242 lbs of Brandwyne, MD is now 26-2-1.

“I want to thank myself for putting the work in,” said a fresh and jubilant Arreola after the stoppage. “I worked my ass off in Phoenix preparing for this fight. I respect Seth for his power, but the big difference for me was in training camp.”

“I have been my only downfall,” he continued. “I should only have one loss on my record. All my other losses are on me for not training properly. But I came here to win tonight. And it was easy work.”

A stunned Mitchell said, “I got caught. I am very disappointed. I was confident in my ability to win this fight. My heart just hurts right now. This was a big fight for both of us, a fight that I wanted. I didn’t want to step back after beating Jonathan Banks.”

Efrain Esquivias scored the biggest win of his career when he knocked out former two division champion Rafael Marquez in a scheduled 10 round Featherweight bout.

Marquez fought well early as he landed some nice rights and could not miss with the uppwercut. Esquivias slowly but surely got into the fight in round four as he was very effective with the right hand. Esquivias started landing those right at the beginning and end of hard combinations and age was showing on the 38 year-old Marquez.

Esquivias was having a nice round seven until Marquez had his last stand as he landed a huge flurry against the ropes just before the bell. Esquivias got back on track in round eight as he was landing some solid flurries. Esquivias came out in round nine and landed a crushing right hand that sent the future Hall of Famer to the canvas. Marquez wobbled to his feet and the fight was called off just nineteen seconds into round nine.

Esquivias, 126 lbs of Carson, CA is now 17-2-1 with 10 knockouts. Marquez, 126 lbs of Mexico City will contemplate retirement with a record of 41-9.

Esquivias drilled Marquez with a lead right hand in the ninth sending Marquez down. After a brief look, referee Raul Caiz Jr., waved it off without a count. “I am slow starter,” said an emotional Esquivias after the bout. “He caught me early, but I finished strong and that’s what matters.”

When asked about beating a legendary warrior, “It means everything. He’s one of my favorite fighters. When he beat Tim Austin I became a big fan of Rafael. Now, I am in the ring with him and it’s a huge honor. I am still his biggest fan. He’s a great champion.”

Marquez was taken to Desert Hospital on a stretcher.

Burns keeps title with disputed draw with Beltran

SAN DIEGO (September 7, 2013)– Ricky Burns was fortunate to keep his WBO Lightweight championship with a twelve round split draw with Raymundo Beltran at the Scottish Exhibition Centre in Glasgow, Scotland

The fight was televised LIVE in the United States on AWE (formerly Wealth TV) and www.awetv.com

Burns controlled the first round and a he as he jabbed and worked the body. Beltran started landing some hard shots with the left hook and began to find his rhythm in round’s two and three. In round four, Beltran rocked Burns with a perfect left hook. Beltran continued to press Burns against the ropes where Burns started to look uncomfortable.

The fight changed in round eight when Beltran dropped Burns with a crushing left hook. Beltran continued to back up Burns and work him on the ropes. Burns recovered in spots in round’s eight through ten but he had a look of frustration on his face as he could not keep Beltran off of him. The two fought it out with championship courage down the stretch with Burns being slightly more active but from the looks of the battle, it was not enough to overcome the lead that Beltran buit up.

According to the judges, Burns was able to back his way into the draw as U.S. Judge Carlos Ortiz gave him the 115-112; Andre Van Grootenbruel of Belgium had 115-113 for Beltran while British judge Richie Davies scored it even at 114-114.

Burns, 134.3 lbs of Scotland, fought with a severely injured jaw from round two on, is now 36-2-1 while Beltran, 134.8 lbs of North Hollywood, CA via Los Mochis, MX is now 28-6-1.

“First and foremost it was an excellent fight”, said AWE CEO Charles Herring.

“The one silver lining out of all this is that fans were able to witness this controversial decision on AWE where in past years, fights like this flew under the radar. But Ray Beltran won the fight and he and the fans around the world deserve a rematch.”

In a battle of undefeated Cruiserweights, Stephen Simmons scored a ten round unanimous decision over David Graf.

Simmons dropped Graf in round four from a right to the side of the head. The two exchanged some exciting flurries and Simmons had Graf in trouble several times.

Simmons, 198 lbs of Edinburgh, Scotland won by scores of 99-91, 98-92 and 97-92 and is now 9-0. Graf, 193 lbs of Germany is now 10-1.

Scotty Cardle remained undefeated with a decision win over Gary Fox in a Lightweight bout.

The Referee scored the bout 79-73

Cardle, 135.3 lbs is now 12-0. Fox, 138 lbs is now 11-2

Callum Smith scored a 1st round destruction over Karil Psoknk in a scheduled six round Super Middleweight bout.

Smith dropped Psonko twice with body shots and Psonko did not want to continue after the second knockdown at 2:30 of round one.

Smith is now 7-0 with 5 knockouts. Psonko is now 10-27-2.

HEATHER “THE HEAT” HARDY SIGNS EXCLUSIVE PROMOTIONAL CONTRACT WITH DIBELLA ENTERTAINMENT

New York, NY (9/6/13) – After successfully making her pro debut in an absolute barnburner on his Broadway Boxing card on August 2, 2012, Lou DiBella immediately took notice of Brooklyn’s good-looking, charismatic, Irish-American Heather Hardy.

Now just a little over a year later, Hardy’s record stands at a perfect 6-0, 1KO, and her fan base has continued to grow, making her one of the most popular attractions in the entire New York boxing scene.

dbe
Having worked with a number of female fighters in the past, particularly fan favorites Sonya Lamonakis and Keisher McLeod-Wells, DiBella has officially signed Hardy, a former New York Golden Gloves champion, to an exclusive long-term contract.

“I have become a believer in women’s boxing because of the hard work, dedication and excellence of boxing’s female athletes. I am proud to sign Heather Hardy to a long-termpromotional agreement. She has the ability, the story and the intangibles to be a legitimate star in the biggest media market in the world. I believe that Heather can be New York City’s breakthrough female fighter,” proclaimed DiBella.

“Boxing is my passion, but the fight in the ring is only one aspect. It takes hard work and constant dedication to see progress, like everything in life. Thanks to Lou DiBella I got the chance to perform in front of my family, friends and my city. I appreciate the opportunity, and I promise to continue the hard work that’s needed to fulfill my dream of becoming a world champion”

Hardy’scareer has blossomed since her debut last summer. Her life and career have been well documented throughout the major NY media. In July, a huge feature story came out in the NY Daily News that chronicled the last few years of her life, which saw both Heather and her mother losing their homes. Heather’s home was devastated in a fire while her mother’s house was destroyed by Hurricane Sandy. However, Hardy’s fighting spirit has helped her to keep a positive outlook on life throughout these hardships. Now Hardy has her sites set on achieving her ultimate goal, winning a world championship.

The female junior featherweight will be in action on the upcoming “Big Apple Boxing” card on Monday, September 16, at Resorts World Casino NYC, in Queens, NY. The card is promoted by SMS Promotions and DiBella Entertainment, and sponsored by SMS Audio.

Tickets for the event are on sale now and are priced at $125, $85, $65 and $45. Tickets are available for purchase by calling Resorts World Casino NYC at (718) 215-2828, or by visiting: http://www.etix.com/ticket/online/venueSearch.jsp?venue_id=9244

“THE ONE MAYWEATHER VS. CANELO” FLOYD MAYWEATHER MEDIA CONFERENCE CALL TRANSCRIPT

Floyd_Mayweather
Kelly Swanson
Okay, thank you, operator. Thank you, everybody, for joining us today on this conference call with eight-time, five-division world champion Floyd Mayweather and Leonard Ellerbe, CEO of Mayweather Promotions. Before I introduce Leonard, who will introduce Floyd, I wanted to do make a couple comments. First of all, Floyd Mayweather is the face of boxing and his face is actually on the cover of this week’s ESPN The Magazine. That magazine is a special fight issue with half the magazine dedicated to The One, and that magazine will be on newsstands this Friday and throughout fight week. Congratulations, Floyd.

I would just like to take this opportunity to tell Floyd Mayweather that he has many times acknowledged my role in his career and I want to tell him at this time that I appreciate him for affording me the opportunity to be part of his career and the Mayweather experience since 2005. His hard work and dedication to his craft and his perfectionism as an athlete and an individual always challenges me to stay positive and do the best job possible for him and the Money Team. Thank you very much, Floyd.

And now, without further ado, I’m going to go ahead and turn this over to Leonard Ellerbe, CEO, Mayweather Promotions to make the formal introduction. Leonard?

Leonard Ellerbe
Thank you, Kelly. The One. I’d like to thank everyone for joining us in on the call
today. Mayweather versus Canelo, The One. Everyone knows this is the most anticipated fight in the history of the sport and we have every indicator that this is going to be the biggest fight in the history of the sport. It started out with the fight going on sale, the fight selling
out in the first day, breaking Floyd’s old record against De La Hoya, $19.5 million at the gate.

Next, when you look at the closed circuit we opened up with 12,000 seats. We sold them out as well. We opened up 13,000 more and we’re about to sell out of them. When you look at the closed circuit as it relates to the restaurants and bars, right now, currently, we’re at 50% higher than we were at Floyd and De La Hoya in ’07.

As it relates to the movie theaters, tracking very well right now. Several of the movie theaters
are sold out right now. The fight will be shown in over 542 theaters nationwide and every indication we have thus far, we’re going to do a big, big number there.

When it comes to sponsor activation, this is the most activated event in the history of the sport. Corona, AT&T, O’Reilly Auto Parts, Valvoline, Mexican Tourism board, Insurance, Nature and Nutrition, and Bacardi Spirits. Tremendous support from our sponsors.

As it relates to the fan participation, the ticket demand is unbelievable at this point when it comes to the interest as it relates to the advertising. We have the biggest advertising plan ever, a record number as it relates to the cable and satellite business. It’s at an all-time high. Showtime, CBS support has been phenomenal thus far. They rolled out every one of their assets from the NFL on CBS to the college football on CBS, and you’ll see that over the next week-and-a-half, the promotion. It’ll be everywhere.

So without further ado, I’d like to introduce the eight-time world champion in five different
weight classes, the face of the sport, the highest paid athlete in the sport and the guy who makes this whole thing go, none other than Money Mayweather himself.

Floyd Mayweather
Hey, how are you all doing today? Thanks for having me. Thank you, Kelly, for the kind words. Thank you, Leonard, for doing a tremendous job. You guys have worked day in and day out for me to be in the best position. Mayweather Promotions is going to continue to bring you guys the biggest and the best fights. I just want to thank everybody because without you guys and without the support and without the media outlets I don’t know where my career would be. So I want to thank everybody. That’s on my mind today.

Q
Obviously, your goal is to retire undefeated and have a Hall of Fame career. You’ve also talked about the mark you want to make as a promoter and that you are making as a promoter. When you think about your career being done and your children and your legacy, what do you want to look back on and say you accomplished not only as an undefeated fighter but the mark you left? What kind of things do you want to say?

Also, what do you look forward to in retirement – spending time with your kids, those types of things? Can you just kind of share that with us?

Mayweather
Well, as far as my children, the most important thing and the great thing about my career was I was able to put them in a comfortable environment. They were able to get a great education that
I wasn’t able to get. My family has been in a comfortable position for 17 years, so that’s a great thing. The mark in the sport of boxing was that I brought that … to the smaller guys … the sport as far as just making smart moves like getting the best so you can receive the best, leaving my mark in sport as far as cleaning up the sport. It’s all about just giving the fans excitement but, like I said, on an even playing field as far as random blood and urine tests. That’s not just in the sport of boxing, but in all sports when you’re competing at the highest level.

Mayweather Promotions, we don’t want to stack our company with a ton of fighters. Every fighter that’s under our banner, we cannot promise them that they will be world champions. I think about that and I talk to fighters about that all the time. The only thing we can do is keep our fingers crossed. The only thing Leonard can do is do his job, and I’ll play a major part. The key is working hand-in-hand with the future fighters. That’s what it’s about, the fighters, the present fighters and the future fighters. The key is working with them, trying to show them a way that I can hand my torch to them so they can take it to the next level. That’s what it’s about. It’s about helping these young fighters grow and taking things to the next level.

Q
When you look around at your team as it is right now with your father in your
corner, Roger’s still there and much of the turmoil with the jail sentence and all that behind you, and as you head into this fight how would you compare your level of contentment and happiness with how things are around you right now heading into this fight?

Mayweather
I’m only human. Some days are better than others. Some days I have good days, some days I
have bad days. You know, that’s life. … What I try to do is I constantly tell myself this: just like you smile on sunny days, you have to smile on rainy days. That’s what I constantly tell myself. I’m happy to be working back with my father. Of course, he’s a perfectionist. I’m a perfectionist. No one is perfect, but we strive to be the best that we can be. The only thing I can do is try to become a better person each and every day. Each and every day I try to become a better person.

Q
I know you came up the hard way, particularly when it came to the guys in the top positions being willing to give you the opportunity to face them. Ever since you’ve been at the top, though, you’ve been giving a lot of these younger guys that opportunity that wasn’t afforded to you back in the day. I was just wondering, do you think it’s easier today for these younger fighters to get that type of opportunity to fight the best, to get a shot at that top spot compared to when you were younger and coming up?

F. Mayweather
Of course, it’s a lot easier now to fight … boxing is tainted, is watered down. I feel like there are too many belts, it’s too many champions. It’s like I said before – I don’t think I told you this – but it’s so crazy how I beat Miguel Cotto for the WBA Junior Middle Weight Champion, right? So how did Austin Trout beat Cotta for the WBA championship and how is Canelo the WBA champ?

Like I said before, these are things I just don’t understand what’s going on with the sport. I think we should have one belt and that’s it. Like I said before, I think the sport is real, real tainted now. It’s not like it was before where you got guys that had to work their way from the bottom to the top. When I was fighting I wanted to fight Oscar De La Hoya way back when. I couldn’t get the fight. I couldn’t get the fight until I was on my own, until I got my own company. I wanted to fight Miguel Cotto when he was undefeated. I couldn’t get the fight.

Sometimes they say, “Well, Floyd Mayweather’s opponents was handpicked.” That’s a good thing. I want to come in and think they put me in a position to where if I did have an easy career and I made a lot of money, then I feel like my team has done their job.

I commend my team. Leonard, you’ve done a tremendous job because when I sit back and I think about my career, I say you know what? I had a cool career. I didn’t take any punishment. If they say these guys were handpicked, they was handpicked to make $40 and $50 and $60 million, then you know what? Leonard, you’ve done your job. You’ve done a tremendous job. If you’ve done that, keep doing the same thing. Keep handpicking them. If they’re going to keep paying, keep handpicking them.

Q
One last question on that note, Floyd. As far as these younger guys getting that opportunity to fight you, do you think that’s a good thing or a bad thing when they get that opportunity so
quickly as far as when it comes to their hunger and things of that nature?

Mayweather
It’s so crazy. I didn’t fight him when he was 40 (Canelo fighting Shane Mosley). So what’s so crazy is I didn’t fight Shane Mosley when he was 40; I fought him when he came off one of his biggest victory. People seem to forget that. I never fought nobody for a vacant belt. Everybody I fought, I fought a champion, a guy that was a champion.

These are the things that I did in the sport. Like I said before, it’s not my fault. It’s about timing and it’s about having the right team. That’s what I got. I got the right team.

Q
One of the things I want to ask you about was is now that you’ve been through most of your
training camp for this fight and it is your quickest turnaround between the May fight and now the September fight I wondered, did you feel like you thought you would feel? As you talked about during the course of this promotion, you’re a little bit older now, perhaps a little bit wiser. Was it okay physically for you to go through that which you have not done for quite some time, having fights back-to-back with just four months in between?

F. Mayweather
I thought I was going to be kind of upset because I didn’t get a chance to take a vacation, but
actually, this camp went great. I was able to get right back into the groove, get right back in
there. Actually, it was a good turnaround because I was still sharp. I was able to be sharp. This camp has been tremendous. I’ve been getting good work, good solid work. The young guys have been pushing me. After this fight I look to fight in May and then fight in September again.

Q
So you feel like from a physical point of view these turnarounds, after pretty much like a decade of not fighting this quickly between fights, it’s okay? You feel like … up against Canelo you’ll be maybe even sharper than when you fought Guerrero?

Mayweather
Well, thank you, but I wasn’t impressed with my fight against Robert. It’s probably because I
took over a year off, but I think I’ll be a lot sharper this fight because I got right back into the
groove of things. Like I said, we got a lot of young and up-and-coming talent in our boxing club that pushes me to the limit and keeping me sharp. I’m trying to outdo the young guys, so
everybody that’s … boxing club is competing against each other to be the best. The only thing that can do is make me better.

Q
Leonard addressed it a bit in his opening remarks talking about the amount of closed circuit tickets that have already been sold, the fact that their gate record has already been broken of all time that you did with Oscar in ’07 and the fact that most people believe that this fight is going to be one of the top selling pay-per-views in the history of the sport, and some people think maybe it breaks the record you set in 2007.

What I’m curious to hear from your point of view is we know when Floyd Mayweather fights it’s a big fight, whoever it is. I’m wondering from your point of view, what do you think has made this one in particular even that much bigger than all of the other ones except perhaps the fight you had with Oscar. Why has this one resonated the way that it seems to have?

Mayweather
He’s young and I’ve seen guys 22 and there’s a guy 25 and … 30 and 0, a guy 26-0, but you’ve never seen a guy 44-0 versus a guy 42 and 0. Like I said before, in Mexico he’s a young rock star and everybody that they put in front of him he was able to go out there and do his job. He done it in a tremendous fashion. He’s a good, strong, solid boxer and I mean, it’s a very intriguing match up. Me not even being a boxing fan, I would want to see two undefeated fighters at the top competition against one another.

Q
You think it’s in the sport there’s been this major pent-up demand for a true super-fight. You’ve had lots of big fights, but maybe not a true super-fight since you’ve fought against Oscar. Is that part of the reason that people have decided, for whatever reason, that Canelo was a guy that they think might have a chance to take that zero from you, and for that reason this is that big time fight?

Mayweather
I think that if me and Cotto had the same vehicle behind us when we faced each other, that night
would have been a lot bigger than it was. Like I said before, this is a very great big fight. I’m
pushing myself to the limit right now. Anything can happen. Any given Saturday, anything can happen. So I’m prepared for anything.

Q
Is it just my imagination or have you gotten a little bit more mellow as the years have gone by? And I mean that as a compliment, man. I just don’t think you talk as much trash as you did a few years ago. Are you mellowing with age?

Mayweather
The thing is this: everything was a business plan. My business plan was to be very, very
entertaining, be very wild, turn it on when it’s time to turn it on, turn it off when it’s time to turn it off, and that’s what I did. I built my fan base. I became a mega-star. I became a household name. That was the ultimate goal. It was just a business plan that I had, you know what I’m saying? There’s nothing fake, but you got to know when to turn it on and when to turn it off. That’s what I was talking about at my gym, actually with Adrian Broner, you have to know when to turn it on and when to turn it off. It’s just business. It’s about being entertaining. I feel like if I didn’t step up to the plate and speak my mind or be flashy and flamboyant then I probably wouldn’t be in the position that I’m in right now. I think it’s a gift. It can be a curse because when you in this position and you at the top, it’s not just luck on my side. It’s been a gift, my career.

Q
Being that you do hold so many records and what not, I’m curious. This fight most of us think at least has the chance to approach the 2.5 million pay per view buys you did with De La Hoya. How important is it to you, Floyd – let me ask you a different way. How much would it mean to you to break that particular record? Are those things important to you as well?

Mayweather
It all depends. We still can break the record and we don’t have to do 2.5 because you have to
realize this: right now we’re talking about financially. This is the reason why: I think
when I was fighting Oscar, I can’t remember what it cost exactly at that because
that was ’07, so that was six years ago. Of course, the price of everything has gone up, so the
price of pay per view is higher now. So we don’t have to do exactly 2.5 to break the record
from a financial standpoint.

Ellerbe
To touch on what he’s saying, obviously we’re speaking in terms of the gross amounts. In ’07 most homes were just standard definition and now, when you look at the cable satellite systems, about 80% of the homes are in HD now. Obviously, with charging $64.95 for the fight, those … make a difference.

Q
I wanted to ask you, how much does it mean to your legacy that your insistence on Olympic style drug testing for fights has led to a different mindset in that area for a lot of fighters? Is that a big part of your legacy?

Mayweather
What’s so crazy is at first it was like everybody was saying, “Floyd, he’s a chicken. He’s
scared” and I felt like I’m not being a chicken or I’m scared. All I’m saying is this is the
only even playing field. I feel like if I step up the plate and I’m the best and I’m saying that I
want to be tested, I feel like every athlete should say it. Not just every boxer. Every athlete
that’s competing at the highest level should want to be tested if you’re a real professional.

Q
Do you feel that you’re the guy who changed the sport a little bit?

Mayweather
Absolutely. I feel I was the first one to take an important stand on cleaning up the sport. Now you hear every fighter, even with Timothy Bradley versusMarquez, now Timothy Bradley is saying that he don’t want to fight unless Marquez tests. So you’re constantly hearing that. Now everybody, or at least the guys that understand how important it is, are now is saying, “I want my opponent to test. The guy that I’m competing against, I want him to take a test.” Like I said before, I started it all and now, like I said before, it’s done everywhere.

Q
Considering the magnitude of this fight card do you think the stage might be too big for a 23
year-old kid who’s never been on one this size?

Mayweather
We’ll just have to see. I think it’s a little different from fighting on Floyd Mayweather’s under
Card to fighting Floyd Mayweather, so I think it’s a lot of pressure. Sometimes when it’s pressure a guy fights better, he competes better. We don’t really know. We have to see how the fight plays out. Hopefully the pressure and everything that’s surrounding the event makes them fight better. The only thing I want to do is give the fans a good fight, a very, very exciting fight. After this fight I have four fights left, so I’m not overlooking this guy, but like I said, I truly believe there’s a lot of pressure on Canelo at this particular time, yes.

Q
What are your thoughts on Kenny Bayless being named the referee?

Mayweather
I just found out about that today. I mean, Kenny Bayless, he’s a great referee. He’s fair.
I think he’s going to let us fight. A lot of times you’ve got refs that’s always trying to break up the action, and Kenny Bayless is one guy – he’s not for the bull (****). He likes to treat every fighter fair.

I’m comfortable with whoever. My job is just to go out there and compete. It doesn’t matter
who is the referee or the judges. I just want to be treated fair, of course. I feel like both fighters should be treated fair. I feel like they chose the right judges. I feel like they chose the right referee. Now it’s time for me and Canelo to go out there and give you guys excitement.

Q
I know you’re a big sports fan. I don’t know if you’ve watched the U.S. Open tennis tournament at all. What kind of tennis player do you think you would have been had you not been a boxer and is there a tennis player out there competing today that you think might make a pretty good boxer?

Mayweather
I don’t know. As far as tennis, I used to like John McEnroe. After
John McEnroe, Pete Sampras. But of course, Arthur Ashe was a legend. His name will always live on. As far as in Las Vegas, of course you have to take your hat off to Andre Agassi, Mr. Las Vegas along with Wayne Newton and myself. I got to, the Williams sisters, of course. Venus and Serena, man, unbelievable. … I used to like her (Serena) too. I remember how you she was and how good she was even then. She was a good player. So yes. What’s crazy right now is my Uncle Roger’s daughter is playing tennis. They are saying that in about in like six years she should be a professional.

Comments (following question) What I’ve been doing lately, I’ve been betting on college football. So if you guys tune into All Access, this week All Access will be the best. Last week, I thought that was the best, but this week you guys get a chance to meet the females from the Money team, so it’s going to be an exciting show. I want everybody to tune in to All Access this weekend. This is show number three of All Access, Mayweather versus Canelo. You guys cannot miss this.

Q
I just wanted to touch on the fact that a lot of English fans are coming out to see you in this fight, some even without tickets. What do you make of the fact that you’ve been taken to so well by the British public?

Ellerbe
I can answer that for him. His phone went dead. He takes great pride in his U.K. fans,
obviously, and it goes back to ’07 when Floyd fought Ricky Hatton. The environment in the arena was something that we had never experienced before. Even up until this date I think it was the rowdiest crowd. The British fans are just phenomenal. After the fight when the fight was over Floyd gave thanks to Ricky Hatton and talked about the tremendous fan support with the U.K. fans. I think from that point on there was a love affair and it started from there. I think with each and every fight that Floyd has fought his British fan base has grown even bigger and bigger. He really, really appreciates the fan support because they are die hard fans. Here it was that Ricky Hatton, with all due respect, he took a beat down and they were still cheering their guy on, singing the song. They’re just die hard fans and that was one of the reasons why we signed the guy … Because like I said, Floyd has great love for his U.K. fans and hopefully one day soon we might make that trip over the pond.

Q
I actually wanted to find out what it was … he said to us that he’d spoken to Floyd about Floyd thinking about moving over and looking at a place to live over here. I just kind of wanted to get his thoughts on our culture and what it was that he particularly liked about England itself.

Ellerbe
Well, he obviously has put some feelers out there with looking for a place, a vacation place, but one of the things from the business standpoint, we’re looking to take a big event over there, and maybe in the near future.

Q
I want to ask you about Mayweather Promotions being part of this fight which is going to do
huge on pay per view, break all these records. What is the status now? You’ve seen a lot of
other promotions. Where do you think Mayweather Promotions is compared to some of the
other major boxing promotions today?

L. Ellerbe
Well, I wouldn’t compare our promotional company to any other company because we’re not
competing with anyone. As Drake says in his song, we started from the bottom and now we’re here. Obviously, Mayweather Promotions has the biggest fighter in the sport. With Floyd being the face of the company we’re able to attract all different types of talent. We’ve been taking our time working very, very slowly, but we’re going to make a lot of noise here in the near future – a lot of noise. Currently right now I have ten fighters that signed to Mayweather Promotions and seven of them are fighting on the card. We have seven of the eight fights on 9/14. We have Badou Jack who’s fighting the co-feature on the Fox show. He’s fighting Periban. We have a lot of young, good talent that they’re on the rise. Obviously, we have Ishe Smith and … Ishe would be a world champion and … fighting also on the card opening up the pay per view portion. So we have a lot of good young talent and we’re taking our time with the right talent. It’s about the quality, not the quantity. We’re going to take our time and we’re going to be a force to be reckoned with when the time is right.

Q
Were you surprised at all, on this conference call there was very little discussion about what to expect in the ring itself between Floyd and Canelo. It was almost like there’s a foregone
conclusion that Floyd’s going to win one way or another. Did that surprise you; there wasn’t
more technique talk from questions about that?

Ellerbe
Well, we don’t get caught up in the aspect of what everyone else thinks. That’s up to the media and the fans. From a preparation standpoint I personally know that Floyd, he’s preparing the same that he normally does for any fight and he’s treating this fight accordingly. In everyone else’s eyes, they see that this is Floyd’s biggest challenge to date and come next Saturday the world will see. We know what Canelo is bringing to the table. We’ve done extensive homework on the young man. He’s a tremendous fighter. He’s fought some decent competition thus far, but fighting Floyd Mayweather is like night and day. Floyd, with all due respect, Austin Trout, in my eyes, he was the best fighter that he’s fought to date. Floyd Mayweather is head and shoulders above a guy like Austin Trout. I think come next Saturday night the young man, he will be in for a rude awakening.

CHILD’S PLAY FOR BURNS AHEAD OF BELTRAN DEFENCE New father’s WBO World Lightweight title on the line live on AWE

Ricky Burns says fatherhood is going to make him even hungrier to stay a World champion, starting with a defence of his WBO World Lightweight title against Raymundo Beltran tomorrow (September 7) live on AWE IN THE UNITED STATES.

The Coatbridge star became a father for the first time when his wife Amanda gave birth to a boy last Thursday, and ahead of the fourth defence of his crown the 30 year old says he has a new perspective on boxing with the new arrival to Team Burns.

“I’ve always been hungry for my fights but now I have even more to fight for with my little boy,” said Burns, who scaled 9st 8lbs 4oz – 9oz less than the challenger from Mexico. “I’m fighting to give him a great start in life and it’s definitely something that will drive me on to win not just tonight, but in all my future fights.

“The timing could’ve been better, but that’s life! I’d rather the baby come a week before the fight than just after as I would’ve had the phone on all the time and waiting for the call while I’m close to making wait or ready to step into the ring. Now he’s here, I can relax knowing that after I win I’ll be going home to my new family – it’s a great thought and something totally new of course.

“It’s easy to say it now, but the build-up hasn’t been affected by the baby really. Yes, I wanted to make sure Amanda and the baby were OK but she was in great hands, and I would probably have got on her nerves if I’d been around. It was a really long labour – two days basically – so she was really tired of course but I’m sure she’d agree that it’s worth it and we’ve got a beautiful little boy now.

“We haven’t decided on names yet, Amanda thought it was going to be a girl so it’s going to be baby Burns until we get a name sorted!”

Burns’ clash with Beltran tops a great night of action in Glasgow, with chief support provided by Steve Simmons clash with fellow unbeaten Cruiserweight David Graf for the vacant WBC International Silver title, and Jon Slowey facing Spain’s Angel Lorente for the vacant WBC International Featherweight Silver title.

Unbeaten Central Area Lightweight champion Scotty Cardle takes on his Northern Area counterpart Gary Fox, former British Featherweight champion Paul Appleby returns to action at Light Welterweight, and they are joined by Scottish prospects David Brophy and Michael Roberts plus Prizefighter Light Welterweights III winner Chris Jenkins and Liverpool’s unbeaten Super Middleweight talent Callum Smith, with Luke Campbell MBE no longer on the bill because of a family illness.

Tickets are on sale now priced £40, £60 & £100 available through www.ticketsoup.com or by calling 08443954000. VIP packages are on sale now priced £200 exclusively through Matchroom Sport on 01277 359900 and at www.matchroomboxing.com.

“COLD” CANELO VOWS TO CHANGE THE COURSE OF BOXING HISTORY BY BEATING LEGEND MAYWEATHER LIVE ON BOXNATION (SKY CH. 437/VIRGIN CH. 546).

LONDON (6 Sept. 2013) – Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez is adamant his super-fight against pound-for-pound king Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather will alter the course of boxing history, live and exclusive on BoxNation (Sky Ch. 437/Virgin Ch. 546).

Saul Alvarez
Mayweather has long been considered the best fighter of his generation, with 44 wins out of 44 fights, testimony to his superiority over his peers. The American superstar seems destined to enter the boxing Hall of Fame as one of the greatest of all time, with his current unblemished record intact.

However, rising light-middleweight world champion, Alvarez, who himself is undefeated, squares off against the majestic Mayweather on September 14, under the bright lights of the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, with a promise to rewrite the chapters of boxing folklore.

“This fight can change history, when I win this fight it will be a memorable win. This is what is motivating me,” said Alvarez.

“I’m not worried about the occasion. In my career I’ve always been able to focus very well despite being in some very tough fights. I’m a fighter who has always been very strong mentally and very cold in my thoughts.

“As a fighter you only want to face the best and at this moment in time Floyd Mayweather is considered the best. And the only way you become the best is by beating the best, so I’m looking forward to it.”

As the reigning WBC, WBA and Ring Magazine light-middleweight world champion, the cinnamon haired Mexican has not come up the easy way after turning professional at the tender age of just 15.

Despite enjoying cult-hero status in his native country, headlining the biggest fight card in nearly a decade offers Alvarez the chance to become a worldwide boxing icon and cement his legacy by silencing the often outspoken Mayweather.

“I think the way Mayweather is talking he is underestimating me but deep down I think he is very worried. He’s always been a talker, that’s the kind of person he is. But I don’t care what he’s saying or what he’s thinking, all I care about is what I’m saying and what I’m thinking and that I’m in control – that’s what matters to me,” Alvarez said.

“It’s good Mayweather is saying that this won’t be the toughest fight of his career, the day he gets up in the ring with me he’ll see whether it’s a tough fight or not,” he declared.

Alvarez is well aware of the significance of his impending battle and is prepared for an experienced Mayweather who is still at the very top of his game.

“I have a lot to lose, this is a fight that is super important to me,” he said.

“Floyd’s not a dirty fighter but he’s a very experienced fighter and sometimes he uses his elbows and forearms but it’s a tactic to take you of your game plan and then counter you. I’m going in there to follow my game plan and make my fight and not fight his fight.

“I still think Floyd is at his peak and he hasn’t lost anything despite getting older – he’s still Mayweather,” added Alvarez.

Mayweather vs Alvarez is live and exclusive on BoxNation (Sky Ch. 437/Virgin Ch. 546) on Saturday 14th September. To subscribe visit www.boxnation.com.

LEO D’ERLANGER PROMISES “EXPLOSIVE” PERFORMANCE IN FAZELDIN REMATCH ON THE KID GALAHAD UNDERCARD SEPTEMBER 14TH

London (6 September) Leo D’Erlanger guarantees “explosive” performance ahead of his rematch with gym mate Muheeb Fazeldin at the Magna Centre, Rotherham, on the Kid Galahad undercard, Saturday 14th September.

The 5’8” lightweight says he is “training hard” and “can’t wait” to set the record straight.

“I can’t wait, it can’t come soon enough, I’m training hard and I feel great,” Leo said.

“I’m working on new things all the time, so I can’t wait to get it on – it will be explosive.

“I don’t want to give away too much, so you’ve just got to get yourselves down there and see what happens.”

When the Ingle Gym trained pair first met at Glow, Bluewater on the James DeGale MBE bill in June, the contest was declared a draw, but Leo felt he had done enough to win the fight.

Now the 30-year-old Banbury man is out to set the record straight and show he is the better man.

“I thought I won the first time, I thought I landed the better shots, so this time I’m going to beat him better – but I thought I’d done enough.”

D’Erlanger fights on the Kid Galahad vs Jazza Dickens undercard at the Magna Centre, Rotherham on Saturday 14th September.

The Hennessy Sports show also features the hot middleweight prospect Chris Eubank Jr and young heavyweight star Hughie Lewis Fury.

MUHEEB FAZELDIN FEELING “GREAT” AHEAD OF D’ERLANGER REMATCH ON THE KID GALAHAD UNDERCARD SEPTEMBER 14TH

London (6 September) Muheeb Fazeldin feels he is in “the best shape” of his career ahead of his rematch with gym mate Leo D’Erlanger at the Magna Centre, Rotherham, on the Kid Galahad undercard, Saturday 14th September.

The 20-year-old bantamweight is eager and ready to give his “best” performance.

“I’m buzzing, it’s such a good show to be on, it will be such a good atmosphere and I’m loving it,” Muheeb said.

“This time in the rematch it’s going to be a win for me, guaranteed, absolutely.

“I didn’t feel myself last time but this time it’s at my weight, I’m feeling comfortable and I’m a different animal this time – my speed, accuracy and power will be too much.”

In the last contest, the Ingle Gym trained pair met at Glow, Bluewater on the James DeGale MBE bill in June, where after four hard fought rounds the fight was announced as a draw.

Now, Muheeb is ready to prove beyond doubt he is the better fighter.

“There are no hard feelings, but I need the win so I can move on to bigger and better things – I want to bring more titles to the Ingle Gym,” Muheeb said.

“For this fight I’ve done the best training – I’ve been dieting properly, drinking lots of water – training twice a day with Dominic (Ingle).

“Doing runs, sprints, hill running, treadmill and even a bit of weights, so I feel in really good shape – fitness wise I’m in the best shape of my career and all my fans can expect a flashy performance.

“Out of all my fights so far, this is going to be my best one.”

Muheeb fights on the Kid Galahad vs Jazza Dickens undercard at the Magna Centre on Saturday 14th September.

The Hennessy Sports show also features the hot middleweight prospect Chris Eubank Jr and young heavyweight star Hughie Lewis Fury.

JORDAN GILL OUT TO IMPRESS ON THE KID GALAHAD UNDERCARD SEPTEMBER 14TH

London (30 August) Jordan ‘The Thrill’ Gill is “feeling brilliant” and ready to give a “big performance” at the Magna Centre on the Kid Galahad undercard, Saturday 14th September.

The 19-year-old is “raring” to get in there and hopes to deliver a “big stoppage”.

“I’m feeling brilliant, training is going great, I feel in the shape of my life – I’m ready and raring to go,” Jordan said

“I’m 100%, I feel strong as an ox and I’m going to go out and smash somebody for four rounds.

“I’ve been developing different shots, new combinations; fast flurries not just single shots – there’s going to be some good foot movement, maybe a little showboating, but hopefully a big stoppage in maybe the third or fourth round.”

The young super featherweight from Chatteris has won all six of his professional contests to date and is hoping to reward his faithful fans with a stand out performance.

“I always get brilliant support from Chatteris and I thank all my fans massively because they follow me wherever I go, whether it be Peterborough, Bluewater, Sheffield,” Jordan said.

“Wherever I go they’re there and they’re shouting for me and that’s what keeps me going and hopefully on the 14th I can reward them with a big performance.”

Gill fights on the Kid Galahad vs Jazza Dickens undercard at the Magna Centre, Rotherham on Saturday 14th September.

The Hennessy Sports show also features the hot middleweight prospect Chris Eubank Jr and young heavyweight star Hughie Lewis Fury.

Jumah added to Haye-Fury undercard

Deion Jumah (2-0, 1 KO) has been added to the undercard of the heavyweight showdown between David Haye and Tyson Fury at the Phones 4u Arena in Manchester on September 28.

Since his last fight the former two-time ABA Champion has joined forces with Adam Booth and been training alongside David Haye and George Groves at the Hayemaker Gym.

‘’Training at the Hayemaker Gym has been great,’’ said the 24-year-old southpaw. ‘’You learn something new everyday. Since my last fight I’ve spent a lot of time in the gym with Adam, slowing things down and really thinking about what I am doing. It has been a process of being broken down and then rebuilding. People are going to be looking at a different, more complete fighter come September 28.”

The London-based cruiserweight is relishing the opportunity to fight in front a home crowd. ‘’My first two fights have been abroad – one in Germany and one in Denmark. It will be good to be home and box in front of a British crowd on such a massive show. The atmosphere is going to be incredible and I am ready to step up and show everybody what I am capable of.’’

Quotes from Thursday’s final workout:

CHRIS ARREOLA, Former World Title Challenger
“I’m going to make a statement and make sure that everyone remembers my fight. I’m going to embarrass this kid, Seth. That’s my job in there.

“I wish that today was the fight. I hate waiting. It’s time to do what I was bred to do; time to do what I was blessed to do.

“I’m more anxious than anything. I don’t get nervous, I get anxious. I’m ready to fight. I’m ready to showcase (my skills and talent).”

SETH MITCHELL, World-Ranked Contender

“I’m expecting a tough fight but I’m also expecting to be victorious.

“In the days leading up to the fight I think a lot about different aspects of the fight. I think about things that we’ve studied and we’ve noticed. I think about my technique and probably review the fight 10 or 12 times in my head before Saturday.

“I’m prepared for the fight. My opponent gives me funny looks but it doesn’t matter. It boils down to him and me on Saturday.

“He talks tough, and that’s expected from Chris Arreola. He’s a clown and a comedian but on Saturday the jokes are going to be on him.”

RAFAEL MARQUEZ, Former Two-Division World Champion

“The only thing that’s on my mind is my opponent. To be a champion and a known fighter all over the world, you have to work so hard. You have to do whatever your trainer says and everything I did will pay off.

“I give excellent fights. All my fights have drama and I’m just hoping to give my best for the fans in Indio and those watching on SHOWTIME. This is my first time fighting there.”

EFRAIN ESQUIVIAS, Featherweight Contender
“I’m focused. I keep going over the game plan. I’ve blocked everything out and I have surrounded myself with positive people. I’m really concentrating on the fight.

“I don’t think too much about my opponent. Marquez is a big name, but I’ve taken care business in the gym. I’ve trained hard so the fight should be easy. It’s not really going to be easy.” [laughing]

ANGEL OSUNA, Undercard Fighter Facing Juan Gonzalez

“I’m hoping to have a great fight because I’ve had a great training camp. I had the best sparring sessions of my career. I want a victory.

“I feel anxious, I just want to fight. I know the time is coming. I’m ready.”

RYAN CABALLERO, Undercard Fighter Facing Emanuel Machorro

“I’m ready to step into the ring. I’m confident. I know how much training I’ve done. I have to stay focused on that.

“It’s exciting that my family stands behind me and supports me in this sport 100 percent; they never pulled me away. My parents and my brothers will all be there Saturday, and knowing that makes me feels great.

“My older brother Randy always gives me pointers and I’ve learned a lot from watching him fight. I think I have a little bit of his style and my style mixed together in the ring.”

RICKY BURNS LOOKING TO KEEP TITLE AND IMPRESS AMERICAN AUDIENCE AGAINST RAY BELTRAN THIS SATURDAY AFTERNOON ON AWE (FORMERLY WEALTH TV)

SAN DIEGO (SEPTEMBER 5, 2013)—He is undefeated in his last 21 fights that spans six and a half years and has won titles in two weight divisions, yet Ricky Burns will be fighting for a chance to fulfill a dream when he defends the WBO Lightweight championship against Ray Beltran this Saturday on AWE (Formerly Wealth TV) and www.awetv.com at 3pm eastern / 12 noon pacific.

Burns (36-2, 11 KO’s) of Coatbridge, Scotland which isn’t far from where the fight will take place in Glasgow, will be making the 4th defense of his Lightweight crown.

Burns trained well and is fully ready for what Beltran will bring to the table.

“Training went well. Sparring went fantastic and right now I am just trying to stay sharp and I am on weight. I look forward to the fight”, said Burns just three days before the contest.

Burns believes he knows what to expect from Beltran and he recognizes it won’t be easy.

“I have seen Beltran fight and I know can’t get forced into a brawl. I expect him to be very tough. He hasn’t sparred many rounds with Manny Pacquiao for nothing. I expect a tough fight.”

Many people believe that Burns maybe ripe for the pickings as he struggled to hold on to his title when he was behind on points to Jose Gonzalez before the challenger could not continue due to a hand problem on May 11th.

“I think the lack of fights made me a bit rusty. I was off for eight months. I had two fights fall through. I wasn’t feeling good in the gym and I was over reaching and getting picked off by Gonzalez. He was a better fighter then we expected and he emptied his tank in round seven and believe by the ninth came around he could not continue.”

Burns has longed to fight in the United States and on Saturday he will be exposed to the United States audience on domestic television via AWE. With a win, Burns believes that a trip to the States could be in the cards against a big name opponent.

“When I was told the fight would be broadcasted in America, I said I did not want to put pressure on myself. As long as I win is what is important. After I do that, I would love to do that as it’s always been a dream of mine to fight in America.”

The network is currently available nationally on Verizon FiOS TV channel 169 and 669 in HD, AT&T U-Verse TV channels 470 and 1470 in HD, along with over 100 cable systems across the country and worldwide. The new website for AWE iswww.AWEtv.com.

DeLomba fighting in honor of mentor and friend, Gary Balletto, next Friday night at Twin River

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (Sept. 5, 2013) — Nick DeLomba has always done things differently than everyone else.

When he made his professional boxing debut in May, he came out of the gate fighting a six-round bout, not the typical four-rounder most newcomers start out with. Not even former Olympians Jason Estrada or Demetrius Andrade did that, nor did amateur standout Toka Khan, who didn’t fight a six-rounder until his seventh professional bout.

“Without having won a national championship or title, I felt I had to do something different,” DeLomba said. “So that is what I did. Now I don’t want to take any steps back. I want to keep moving forward.”

DeLomba (1-0) will again add his own unique twist to the event on Friday, Sept. 13, 2013 at Twin River Casino when he fights in honor of his former mentor and close friend Gary Balletto, who sustained injuries in an accident at his home in July that left him in critical condition. As he continues his road to recovery, Balletto has become an inspiration to those within his inner circle, including the 23-year-old DeLomba, who formed a special bond with the former Cranston, R.I., lightweight champion the moment he stepped foot in his gym eight years ago.

“I trained with him, sparred with him, helped him train — our typical Friday night was me, him and his trainer in the gym. We’d be the only ones there,” DeLomba said.

“I even helped him move into his house. We’re close, like family. Gary is the kind of person who always gives back to other people, so I want to give something back to him.”

After a back-and-forth battle with Jimmy Smith in his debut — a fighter he faced twice as an amateur — DeLomba will face another tough test next Friday against Lancaster, Pa., welterweight Evincii Dixon (2-1, 1 KO) in a six-round bout on the undercard of Jimmy Burchfield’s Classic Entertainment & Sports’ “Champion Breed” show at the Twin River Event Center.

“This will be a step up,” DeLomba said, “but, he hasn’t fought a six-rounder yet.”

DeLomba already has, which he hopes gives him the edge next Friday night against Dixon, a 22-year-old prospect under the guidance of Terry Nye, known throughout boxing for his work with former two-time welterweight world champion Kermit Cintron.

“When I went back and watched the film from my debut, I heard [commentator] Peter [Manfredo Jr.] mention how he was nervous in his first fight. I had no nerves or jitters,” DeLomba said. “It was just like another day in the gym for me.

“I did what I do best. The six-rounders give me more time to break my opponent down. That’s why I like them. That’s what kind of person I am. I’m a hard-worker. I’m better conditioned than most fighters.”

As mentally tough as DeLomba is, nothing could prepare him for the initial shock he felt when he first heard the news about Balletto’s accident, a tragic turn of events that turned the boxing world, both locally and nationally, on its ear.

“I almost didn’t believe it at first,” DeLomba said. “I was thinking maybe he just fell, and maybe it wasn’t that big of a deal. It was very hard for me. I couldn’t even be in the gym without thinking about it or having it affect me.”

In between work and training, DeLomba visits Balletto often to help lift his spirits.

“He has his good days and bad days,” he said.

Watching his mentor, a former contestant on The Contender reality television series who won 31 fights (26 by knockout), continue to battle every day in the aftermath of his accident, has inspired DeLomba to do the same.

“It’s definitely a morale-booster,” DeLomba said. “I’m putting in all this extra work for him.

“Even if I didn’t know him like I do, to see someone go through something so dramatic and still have the will to keep fighting, it shows what we can do if we put our mind to something.”

Tickets for “Champion Breed” are $41.00, $76.00, and $126.00 (VIP) and can be purchased by calling CES at 401.724.2253/2254, online at www.cesboxing.com or www.twinriver.com, at the Players Club booth at Twin River, or through any TicketMaster location. Showtime is 7 p.m. with doors opening at 6.

The main event next Friday is a 10-round showdown for the vacant Women’s International Boxing Association (WIBA) welterweight world title between Aleksandra Magdziak Lopes (10-1, 1 KO) of Marshfield, Mass. (by way of Gliwice, Poland), and the undefeated Tori Nelson (6-0-3) of Ashburn, Va., a former World Boxing Council (WBC) middleweight world champion.

The undercard of “Champion Breed” features a six-round cruiserweight showdown between Josh Harris (9-6-1, 7 KOs) of Providence, R.I., and undefeated Beaumont, Tex., veteran Quantis Graves (8-0, 4 KOs), a former amateur standout who was an alternate on the 2008 U.S. Olympic team in the heavyweight division. Known for his tremendous punching power, Harris recently stopped 25-year-old prospect Sevdail Sherifi, who was 9-1-2 at the time, in New York City in April.

In a six-round special attraction, unbeaten Ukrainian light welterweight Ivan Redkach (14-0, 12 KOs), now fighting out of Los Angeles, Calif., will put his perfect on the line against Puerto Rican Antonio Sanchez (5-1-2, 3 KOs)

The undercard will also feature a four-round welterweight bout between Cranston’s Jon Smith (2-0, 1 KO) and Antonio Chaves Fernandes (3-11-2) of Brockton. Fernandes is coming off a draw against previously-unbeaten welterweight Greg Vendetti and a majority-decision win over Jesus Javier Cintron in August.

As an added bonus, Twin River and CES have teamed up to offer fight fans and VIP customers an exclusive offer with their ticket purchase. Show your ticket stub at the event, join the Twin River Rewards Club and get a free $25 Twin River gift card and two free tickets to a Twin River concert. CES has upped the ante by offering an additional $25 gift certificate to either Meritage or Chardonnay’s restaurant in Rhode Island with the purchase of a $126 Jimmy’s Club VIP ticket.

(Twin River has waived its 18+ rule for “Game On.” Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult and must enter through the West entrance.)

17-YEAR-OLD BOXING ‘PRODIGY’ JUNIOR “SUGAR BOY” YOUNAN READY FOR PRO RANKS SIGNS LONG-TERM PROMOTIONAL AGREEMENT WITH DIBELLA ENTERTAINMENT

New York, NY (9/5/13) – Having been sought out by every major promotional company in the US, highly regarded amateur prospect Junior “Sugar Boy” Younan has officially decided to make his world championship run under the DiBella Entertainment (DBE) banner. Younan, who will be co-managed by James Prince and Josh Dubin, officially signed a long-term exclusive promotional agreement with DBE earlier this week. Younan, who doesn’t turn 18 until October 14, is looking to make his much-anticipated pro debut in late October/early November.

“It’s a real honor being signed by DiBella Entertainment,” said Younan. “Growing up in New York and being at all the shows, it’s really humbling to know that I’m being recognized as
one of the best prospects right now by Lou. I plan on showing everyone what I have in me and bringing that spark back to boxing. I feel like I have a great, strong team with DBE, my manager James Prince, my lawyer Josh Dubin and, of course, my father. We’re going to make it to the top and that’s a promise.”

“Anytime that you are able to add the type of caliber fighter that ‘Sugar Boy’ is to your stable, it’s special,” said DiBella. “I have been following him since he has been a child and he has been viewed as a New York gym prodigy. Still a teenager, I expect huge things from ‘Sugar Boy’ Younan.”

“I’m excited to be in business with my first New York fighter, which happens to be one of the most decorated amateurs in recent memory. He’s so sweet in the ring that his name is fitting – ‘Sugar Boy’. I’m also hyped to be working with my close friend and colleague Josh Dubin, who will be my co-manager with respect to ‘Sugar Boy’. It’s an honor and a privilege to be working with Lou DiBella and DiBella Entertainment. We all expect real big things from ‘Sugar Boy’,” stated Prince, who also manages super middleweight champion and top pound-for-pound fighter Andre Ward.

The “boxing prodigy”, as Younan was referred to in a lengthy New York Times article written on him and his father/trainer Sherif Younan when Younan was just 10 years old, has long been in the spotlight throughout his amateur career. The blue-chip prospect first picked up a pair of gloves at just two years old and by the time he was eight, he was fighting competitively. Compiling an outstanding 90-5 record, Younan won nearly every major tournament both on the regional and national level that he competed in. In addition to winning the National Junior Olympic championship in 2011 (he lost a debated decision in the 2012 finals), the #1-rated amateur Younan was a nine-time Junior Olympic champion, nine-time Junior Metro champion, eight-time NY State Silver Gloves champion, five-time Regional Silver Gloves champion, four-time National Silver Gloves champion, three-time Ringside World champion, three-time National PAL champion and a two-time National Junior Golden Gloves champion.

The signing of Younan is the fourth recent signing of a high-profile New York-based amateur prospect by DBE this year. Younan joins fellow New Yorkers and former #1-rated US amateurs Patrick Day, Shemuel Pagan and Christopher Galeano, as well as former NY Golden Gloves champions Louis Cruz and Travis Peterkin, to be signed to the growing DBE roster in 2013. Pagan (2-0, 1KO) and Galeano (pro debut), co-promoted with Curtis “50 Cent” Jacksons’s SMS Promotions, are set to make their promotional debuts on the upcoming “Big Apple Boxing” card on Monday, September 16, at Resorts World Casino NYC, in Jamaica, Queens. Day has already moved his record to a perfect 5-0, after making his pro debut this past January. Peterkin, who will also be in action on September 16, has upped his record thus far to at 8-0, and Cruz is now 4-0. With such promising young talent continuing to be added to the DBE roster, the future looks very bright for New York-based promotional company.

Liakhovich files formal Protest of Wilder fight outcome

Liakhovich
SCOTTSDALE, Arizona (September 5, 2013) – Former World Boxing Organization (“WBO”) Heavyweight Champion Sergei “The White Wolf” Liakhovich has filed a formal protest, regarding the final outcome of his August 9, 2013 fight with undefeated Deontay Wilder, due to illegal punches that led to him being knocked out at 1:43 of the first round at Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio, California.

Liakhovich’s advisor, Attorney Anthony Cardinale, prepared and recently filed the formal protest with the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC), seeking the outcome be changed to a “no contest” due to obvious violations of the CSAC rules and regulations.

“I am confident that the California State Athletic Commission operates at a high level of professionalism and will not stand for Wilder’s illegal tactics and change the decision to ‘No Contest'”, Liakhovich said. “Video and pictures support what really happened. It is illegal to hit behind the ear, on the back of the neck, and on the back of the head. Since when is swinging your hands anyway you want called boxing? How can Wilder be proud of this kind of win? I understand that everybody in America is looking for a new star but he is not it. My goal is to get a rematch with Wilder and fight him according to the rules of boxing.”

The two illegal blows came in succession, first, behind Liakhovich’s ear and neck area, and the second to the back of Liakhovich’s skull. Video of the aforementioned incident, one in real time and the other in slow motion (see below), were filed as evidence as well as still photos like the one shown above.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AcazUXsuxQ4

Team Liakhovich also claimed that referee Tom Taylor was not in position to view the two illegal punches, despite being warned by Team Liakhovich during a pre-fight meeting about potential fouling on Wilder’s part.

Based on the evidence provided, Team Liakhovich has petitioned the CSAC to hold a hearing about this claim and then change the original outcome to a “no contest.”

FINAL PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES: CHRIS ARREOLA & SETH MITCHELL, RAFAEL MARQUEZ & EFRAIN ESQUIVIAS FROM EL PASEO INN RESTAURANT IN LOS ANGELES

chris-arreola
LOS ANGELES (Sept. 5, 2013) – Chris Arreola (35-3, 30 KO’s), of Riverside, Calif. and Seth Mitchell (26-1-1, 19 KO’s), of Brandywine, Md., got into a heated verbal exchange during Wednesday’s final press conference for their 12-round heavyweight showdown for the WBC Silver Championship this Saturday, Sept. 7, on SHOWTIME BOXING: Special Edition live on SHOWTIME® immediately following ALL ACCESS: Mayweather vs. Canelo Episode 3 Premiere, which begins at 10 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on the West Coast).

In the 10-round co-feature from Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, Calif., former two-division world champion Rafael Marquez (41-8, 37 KO’s), of Mexico City, will take on Efrain Esquivias (16-2-1, 9 KO’s), of Gardena, Calif., in a featherweight bout.

Tickets for an event originally scheduled for Sept. 6 are priced at $105, $75, $55, $45 and $35 and are available at the Fantasy Springs Box Office, by calling (800) 827-2946 or online at www.fantasyspringsresort.com. All tickets bought for Sept. 6 will be honored on Sept. 7. Doors open at 4 p.m. PT and the first live fights start at 4:05 p.m.

Here’s what former world title challenger Arreola, former college football star Mitchell, Marquez and Esquivias said Wednesday from El Paseo Inn Restaurant on historic Olvera Street in downtown Los Angeles:

CHRIS ARREOLA, Former World Title Challenger
“He [Mitchell] says every time I’ve stepped up I’ve lost. You’re not a step up, I’m stepping down to you. You’re way down here. You’re a step down and remember that. I didn’t have to run the combine or do the 40-yard dash because trust me I do a six-second 40-yard dash and I don’t bench press. That’s not what I do. I’m a boxer and I’ve been boxing since I was 7 years old. I didn’t just start boxing just because I couldn’t cut it in the NFL or couldn’t cut it in football.

“I’ve been boxing my whole life and I’m going to prove it on Saturday night. I’m going to show you that you don’t belong in this sport. I’m telling you I’m more prepared for this fight than I’ve been in a long time. I’m motivated.

“If this man beats me, then I’ll consider retirement because there’s no way this guy could beat me. Not the way I’ve trained. This guy is nothing to me. I respect his stamina and his power. I respect every heavyweight’s power so I have to mind my p’s and q’s.

“He’s going to regret he took this fight. I’m going to make him fight every minute, every second of every round. Don’t forget to bring your football helmet because you’re going to need it.

“The difference between this training camp and any other is that I was in Arizona and not Riverside. I’ve been at the gym every morning and every night.. This time there’s no one to blame but me. It’s all on me. I’m the one who goes to the gym or doesn’t go to the gym. I’m the one who cuts corners. Me. And that’s something I had to get away from. Get away from home.

“There was only one car and one car key. Henry took me to the gym every day and made sure I was there. My cardio is way up, so much better than my last fight.”

SETH MITCHELL
“Make no mistake about it, this was a fight that I wanted. I don’t talk a lot in the paper. I don’t Tweet. This is the fight that I wanted. Chris Arreola is a great fighter. He comes forward and applies a lot of pressure. But I don’t see anything special. Nothing I can’t take care of on Saturday.

“Every time Chris Arreola has stepped up he’s lost. He and his trainer do a lot of talking. But just know that I’m prepared and they can say whatever they want to say but they are going to have a fight on the 7.

“I’ve worked hard and I’m ready for this fight. I have speed, power and size. I’m the complete package.

“SHOWTIME puts on exciting fights and our styles complement each other so it’s going to be a great fight. If I was a betting man I know where I would put my money.
“I started late so I know there’s a lot to learn, but on the flip side I haven’t taken a lot of punches, either.”

RAFAEL MARQUEZ, Former Two-Division World Champion

“Being retired never entered my mind. I took some time off and came back with [current trainer] Nacho [Beristain] because I feel like I still have something to prove to the fans.

“I’ve signed [with Golden Boy Promotions] for four fights, but my mind is on this fight right now.

“I hope he comes forward because that’s exciting for the fans. Everyone knows that’s my style and I want to make the most exciting fight for my fans.

“I have a lot to prove. I want to be a world champion again.”

EFRAIN ESQUIVIAS, Featherweight Contender
“I want to fight the best fighters out there and I thank Thompson Boxing Promotions and Golden Boy Promotions for making this fight happen. I’m coming in real strong and ready to show boxing fans that I’m capable of competing for a world title. I’m not an opponent; I’m here to win.

“The fans are going to see a great fight. I don’t back down and neither does Marquez. My team and I created a great game plan and we’re hungry for this fight.

“Most people in the sport know about my father passing away from ALS. He’s the one who gives me the strength to continue. His spirit lives within me and he’s the reason why I fight.

“We went hard during our training camp to be fully prepared for whatever Marquez throws at us. I view myself as the favorite. That’s no disrespect to Marquez, he’s a future hall of famer, but I always feel like I’m the best boxer in the ring.

“It would mean the world to me to beat Rafael Marquez. Some people say he has lost a step, but I don’t think so. Look at his brother, Juan Manuel Marquez. These guys are built for longevity.”

HENRY RAMIREZ, Arreola’s Trainer
“Moving his training camp to Arizona got him out of the norm and we’re in great shape. There’s nothing left now to do but get in the ring on Saturday.

“It’s finally good to see [Mitchell] speak up a little bit and show a little fire. It’s the heavyweights and it’s good for interest in the fight. Something we said got under his skin. I don’t know what it was but it was something. Both guys are highly motivated and it’s good to see.”

ANDRE HUNTER, Mitchell’s Trainer
“Training has been going great. Both the guys are in great shape. We’ve been studying a lot of film. You can say this is his biggest fight but Johnathon Banks was probably just as big. It was on the same level.”

ERIC GOMEZ, Golden Boy Matchmaker
“These are the two most exciting heavyweights on earth. You are not going to want to miss this fight. When you have Mayhem (Mitchell) and Nightmare [Arreola] you’re going to have a storm. You can just feel the intensity right here.”

ALEX CAMPONOVO, Thompson Boxing Promotions
“We love it all. This is what boxing needs: two hungry guys going for it all and vying for a shot at a world title.”

CANELO ALVAREZ MEDIA CONFERENCE CALL TRANSCRIPT

Saul Alvarez
Kelly Swanson
Thanks for joining us today. Now that Labor Day has passed, I think there’s only one thing on everybody’s mind and that is “THE ONE: Floyd Mayweather vs. Canelo Alvarez,” taking place Saturday, September 14 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, live on SHOWTIME PPV. Today, we’re hosting a conference call with Canelo Alvarez himself and to make that introduction, I’m going to go ahead and turn it over to Oscar De La Hoya, President of Golden Boy Promotions.

Oscar De La Hoya
Thank you, Kelly. Yes, we’re getting very close, our nerves are getting a bit rattled and we feel “THE ONE” is going to break all records. All of the indications that we are receiving are showing us that “THE ONE” will be the one. We have a great card from top to bottom. It’s going to be very exciting all week. Fight fans can look forward to Thursday night fights on Fox Sports 2 with Shawn Porter against Julio Diaz kicking off the fight weekend, so these are exciting times for boxing all because our two participants [Floyd Mayweather and Canelo Alvarez] agreed to step inside the ring September 14.

It is my pleasure to be introducing “THE ONE” Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez who hails from Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. He is the WBC and WBA and the Ring light middleweight champion and he’s been pro since the age of 15-years-old. He’s coming off a tremendous victory against Austin Trout in front of over 39,000 people. I’m sure no other fighter in the sport today can attract that many people inside one venue. So he is the most popular athlete in boxing today, loved by many and is only getting better. Let me introduce to you a fighter who hasn’t even shown his true potential and on September 14th we will be seeing the best in Saul Canelo Alvarez with a record of 42-0, 30 knockouts Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez.

Canelo Alvarez
Hi, everybody. I feel very happy and ready for the fight. We’re only a couple weeks away. We’re very close to the fight day and I’m already in Las Vegas and ready for the fight.

Q
Why do you think that this specific fight seems to have taken off more than so many of the other perceived big fights that we’ve seen in recent years? Be it Oscar’s fights or other Floyd fights or Pacquiao fights, this fight for whatever reason, seems to have really caught on even more so than a lot of those other big ones we have seen.

Canelo
I believe it’s because of the fans, because of the people; they’re the ones that are very, very interested about this fight. It’s the fight that they wanted to see. It’s the fight that they asked for. It’s a fight that they wanted. There’s euphoria with the fans, with the people. I think that’s the reason.

Q
Why do you think that’s the case? We’ve seen lots of great match-ups. Why do you think that the fans are so-you used the word-euphoric? Why do you think that they are as euphoric about this fight than others that have been big ones?

Canelo
Because of that; they’re just excited about the fight. They wanted the fight. They know it’s going to be a great fight. They know that it’s going to be a fight where it’s not going to be easy for either of us, but it’s the fight that they asked for and it’s the fight they wanted. It’s going to be a very good fight, very interesting.

Q
Do you think that there’s a lot of people out there that a) did not believe that Floyd would actually come back and fight the second fight this year after the fight against Guerrero and so they took it as such a great surprise and were happy about it, and also because that even though he’s coming back for that second fight that they’re surprised that Floyd agreed to fight you because many people believe you do pose the greatest risk compared to the other opponents he could have selected?

Canelo
No, I believe it’s because of the fight. It’s the fight. You know it’s the fight itself. It doesn’t really matter that he’s fighting twice this year. You know he could have fought again in another fight like he did in May so that wouldn’t have mattered much, but I just think it’s because of the fight. It’s the fight; the fight that people wanted and they’re excited for.

Q
Oscar, you have more experience in big pay-per-view fights than just about anybody other than maybe Floyd Mayweather and maybe Mike Tyson. Could you talk about why you think this fight has caught on the way it has? I don’t know if it’s because there’s such a pent up demand because we haven’t had a kind of big fight like this for a while. We didn’t get Pacquiao/Mayweather. What do you think is the reason why this one has caught on so big?

De La Hoya
Well, I know why it’s caught on so big is because people have hope and people strongly feel that Mayweather is going to get beat. You know that’s why I feel this fight is catching fire. You have a young guy in Saul who is like a seasoned veteran. He knows what he’s doing. He’s a fighter that has a game plan that is in the best shape of his life. People have hope and people strongly feel that Mayweather is going to get beat.

Q
Do you feel that Floyd can hurt you at all if he connects?

Canelo
I think that any fighter at any given point can land and hurt anybody. You know that’s why you have to be ready and you have to look out for that. If you get caught by something solid by any fighter, I’m sure that you can get hurt.

Q
Is there anyone that you’ve fought in your career that you can compare to Floyd?

Canelo
You know I’ve fought with all types of fighters, all styles, but he’s different. Obviously, he’s Floyd Mayweather; he’s different. He’s a very, very smart fighter. He’s very smart that’s basically the difference. I’ve fought guys who are similar, but with Floyd he’s very, very smart so it’s different.

Q
You’re fighting at a catch weight of 152 pounds. Will that have any effect on the way you fight and do you have any concerns at all about making that weight?

Canelo
No, not at all; it’s not going to bother me at all. I feel good. I feel very, very good. I’ve been able to make the weight in the past without a problem. In fact, in my most recent fights I’ve been under on the day of the weigh-in. I really don’t do that much work so I think that it’s going to be fine. I feel very, very good right now, and, in fact, I think it’s going to help me. I’m going to be a lot faster.

Q
I’d just like to ask you, obviously Oscar spoke a lot about you being a younger, stronger, bigger guy. In your mind do you think your counter punching ability or your overall physical pressure will be your best asset?

Canelo
My counter punching is going to help, it’s going to be an important factor, but it’s going to be an all-around thing, not just counter punching. Obviously, pressure as well; pressure is going to help me in the fight but, you know, smart pressure; going in there not careless, but being very smart about it.

Q
Oscar has flat out said that he thinks that you, Canelo, are going to take advantage of the blueprint that he laid out against Floyd and that you are going to knock him out inside of eight rounds. My question is does his saying that add any pressure or expectation to your-you know to the fight for you and do you think he is correct in his assessment?

Canelo
No. It’s actually an honor. It’s an honor to hear those comments from Oscar that I’m going to win. Obviously, I’m preparing myself, you know, to win, and I have a certain game plan. I’m not going to look for the knockout. Obviously if it comes it comes. I’ve got my game plan; I’m going to stick to it and I don’t like to predict anything. The only thing I can predict is that I’m going to win the fight and that’s what I’m focused on and that’s what I’ve been working towards.

Q
And given that it’s a Mexican holiday and that you have an entire country behind you how does a young man like yourself avoid taking the weight and expectations of your nation and allowing that to wear on you, instead using that as motivation? How do you ride the waves of expectation and use that as motivation rather than feel it as pressure?

Canelo
Obviously, I’m very appreciative. I’m very thankful to God for this opportunity. I feel this is important-to my fans and my people. I’m a responsible person and this is all I’ve ever wanted and I’m very focused on what I want and what I want to happen, so, obviously, for me it’s a big responsibility. I understand that and I can appreciate that.

Q
Given that it’s been portrayed that there’s been sort of a revolving door of sparring partners has either Keandre Gibson or, as I understand it, Karl Dargan been helpful in emulating Mayweather’s style and durability?

Canelo
Yeah they’ve helped me very much, so I just have one more sparring partner left, and, obviously, they both did very good and they’ve helped me. They have very similar styles to Floyd and they helped me very much.

Q
Oscar, why do you feel that he can handle the kind of expectation that you, who have faced Floyd and not been able to knock him out, why do you feel he’s capable? What do you see that makes you feel he’s capable of handling the expectation that you have placed upon him and the country has placed upon this young man’s shoulders?

De La Hoya
Well, I can see it and I can envision that because I know what he’s capable of. I understand his potential and he hasn’t shown not one bit of what he’s capable of, and I strongly feel that September 14th we are going to see the younger Canelo Alvarez who is going to be fast, who is going to be strong, as we know, but who is going to be smart. He’s the whole package and he hasn’t put it all together because he hasn’t fought Floyd Mayweather, who is the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world. Floyd Mayweather will bring out the best in Canelo Alvarez.

Q
Saul, do your messages of support from ginger haired kids around the world, and do you see yourself as a sort of hero icon for ginger haired kids?

Canelo
I can’t say that I’m a hero for them. I mean that’s a question you would have to ask them. I can’t really answer that, but yes I’m very appreciative that I have followers and fans from all sorts of colors.

Q
Also, the last undefeated fighter to face Floyd was British fighter Ricky Hatton. I wondered if you had watched that fight in your preparation and was wondering what you thought about that fight.

Canelo
Yeah, you know, I’ve studied the fight and I’ve seen what he did and he kept coming in. He kept coming in and pressuring Floyd and throwing a lot of punches, but I felt that he kept coming in a little too open and he was getting caught with many punches coming in, especially the right hand, and obviously, finally with the left hook that caught him and got him out of there. But I think that he made mistakes; he made mistakes by coming in wide open.

Q
Saul, do you consider yourself the number one fighter in Mexico right now?

Canelo
I think that’s a question that I can’t answer. It’s a question you’ve got to ask the fans; you’ve got to ask the media. I can’t really answer that but what I can say is that I’m just doing the best job that I can do.

Q
Saul, you’re a fighter with many qualities; what’s one of the qualities that’s most important that Floyd has to be careful with?

Canelo
I think that when you get up in the ring there’s not one specific thing you’ve got to look out for. You’ve got to be ready for everything because one punch is all it takes to lose the fight, so you’ve got to be ready for everything.

Q
Have you given much thought how you’re going to win the fight? What’s going to be the outcome? How are you going to win the fight? Can you tell us?

Canelo
You know it doesn’t really matter. I think any way to win the fight, any punch that might stop the fight is going to be good. I can’t really say too much. I can’t really predict it. I mean the most important thing is to go with my game plan and try to win the fight and see what happens.

Q
In the ‘All Access’ show you were watching the Abner Mares fight. Obviously, that fight ended with one punch. Like you said, anything can happen at any given time in any fight. Can this happen in the Floyd fight? Can it happen with you? Obviously, Floyd’s a favorite just like Abner Mares was but can this happen the same way?

Canelo
I’m working hard. I’m working hard for this fight. Obviously, one punch, yes one punch can change everything, but I’m working hard, and I’m doing my game plan for this fight, and anything can happen. You really don’t know.

Q
Do you think that you can change the history of boxing or, you know, the history of what’s going on right now if you win this fight? Right now you’re not considered one of the pound-for-pound fighters. Do you think it can very easily put you on the list for pound-for-pound best in the world? Do you think that you can, obviously, make a statement with this win?

Canelo
Of course that’s why I’m very motivated; of course I could. It would be a great win. If I win this-on September 14th when I win it it’s going to be a great win so of course it can change history.

Q
Do you think Mayweather is underestimating you by saying that he’s fought better opponents than you?

Canelo
Yes. I think that the way he’s talking he’s underestimating me, but at the same time I think that he’s worried. I think that he’s very, very worried, but he’s always been like that. He’s always been a talker and that’s the kind of person he is, but I don’t care. I don’t care what he’s saying. I don’t care what he’s thinking. What I care about is what I’m saying and what I’m thinking and I’m controlling it and that’s what matters to me.

Q
On the All Access you were talking about sparring partners. Some of them were trying to emulate Floyd in using their elbows and using their forearms on you. Do you think that’s a style that Floyd does and he uses that on purpose and maybe he gets away with a lot of that?

Canelo
I’m not saying that he’s a dirty fighter. I would never say that because he’s not. He’s not a dirty fighter but he’s a fighter that has a lot of experience and obviously yes sometimes he does use his elbows and forearms but it’s a tactic so that he can get you off your game plan; then he can counter you when you’re trying to pull out of that. Obviously, he’s a fighter that has a lot of experience and he uses that to his advantage.

Q
Saul, you’re ten days from the fight. How are you feeling? How are you mentally?

Canelo
I feel very good. I feel very, very well physically and mentally. It’s the best preparation I’ve ever had for any fight and with these days coming I feel very good.

Q
Are you worried with the fact that obviously the big magnitude of this fight and there’s talk that there’s going to be over 100 countries watching this fight, so many people watching it? Does it worry you or does that motivate you and that’s just another move in the right direction for your career?

Canelo
No I’m not worried. In my career I’ve always focused very, very well. I’ve been in some tough fights and that’s all I can worry about is the fight. Obviously, you always want to fight the best and at this moment right now Floyd is considered the best and that’s what I’m focused on. I’m focused on becoming the best and how you become the best is you beat the best.

Q
Julio Cesar Chavez, Sr. said that it was a big disadvantage to go to Vegas so early and that maybe you might lose some of the conditioning that you gained up in Big Bear by doing the move so early. What do you think about that?

Canelo
Everybody thinks differently. They have their own opinion but, obviously, this is something I’ve done in the past and you also have to get acclimated to the weather in Las Vegas. It’s very hot out here and you’ve got to get used to and acclimated to the weather so, obviously, that’s the reason why I did it.

Q
Floyd Mayweather made some comments that this is not going to be the toughest fight of his career; that the toughest fight of his career was against Miguel Cotto. What do you think about that?

Canelo
That’s good that he’s thinking that way. The day that he gets up in the ring with me he’ll see for himself whether it’s a tough fight or not.

Q
Obviously there’s been a lot of talk about the style that Mayweather has, but what I want to know is how are you preparing mentally for this fight?

Canelo
I’ve prepared myself very, very well. I’m a fighter that’s always been very strong mentally, very cold in my thoughts so I’m very, very good. I’ve been preparing myself physically and mentally so I’m feeling good.

Q
You know if Mayweather is going to start the initiative and start the fight and try to pressure you, are you going to allow that to happen or you going to turn it around and turn the tables on him?

Canelo
No, not at all. I’m going to go up there and I’m going to follow my game plan and I’m going to make my fight. I’m not going to allow him to fight his fight. I’m going to fight my fight and I have a game plan.

Q
Is there someone you want to dedicate this fight to against Floyd?

Canelo
Obviously, yes to all my supporters, my family and all my teammates that are around me.

Q
Hi, Canelo. I am struck by how humble and even-keeled you are. Floyd is known for stirring up the pot. He’s not shy about telling people how great he is and what he’s going to do to you. I am wondering, can you point to one instance on that long multi-city press tour when Floyd ever got under your skin and maybe pissed you off and got you angry? You’re so even-keeled it’s amazing to hear.

Canelo
No not at all; he never gotten under my skin. There’s nothing he did that really got under my skin. I’ve always been very, very strong mentally. So I like to be very, very strong and, obviously, prove everything up in the ring, so, no, he never got under my skin.

Q
Do you think Mayweather has enough power to knock you out?

Canelo
I think that any fighter has the ability to hurt anybody. If they catch you with the perfect punch they can hurt anybody even if it’s a fighter that they say doesn’t have any power or any strength. If it’s the right punch it can hurt anybody so that’s why you always have to be ready. You have to be up there and you have to be ready.

Q
Many people are saying you’re only 23-years-old and you’re going to be in many other big fights that you have nothing to lose. Do you think that’s the case?

Canelo
No, not at all. I think that I have a lot to lose. This is a fight that’s super important to me so I have a lot to lose. I don’t see it that way.

Q
Hello. Oscar, as a promoter-well, everybody is looking forward to a great fight of course, first of all, September 14th-as a promoter do you see the possibility of boxing’s next great trilogy taking shape? If Canelo wins and there’s a rematch, then there could be another rematch, do you see that happening?

De La Hoya
Well, Canelo winning there is a rematch unless Floyd retires, but that’s not likely to happen. I believe both guys are competitors, both guys want to be against the best, and Canelo winning-for sure we know we will see a great fight-I strongly feel that both guys will want to fight again.

Q
Oscar, you said that you feel that Canelo will get the knockout. Floyd, as you know, is one of the-people are saying he’s possibly the best defensive fighter of the last 50 years, things like that. How do you see Canelo getting a knockout? Do you think he’ll wear him down and stop him late or do you think he’ll just shock him early with his sheer physical strength and power?

De La Hoya
Well, yes; I mean that’s my personal position, my personal feeling. That’s how I feel that the fight will pan out. You know in boxing anything can happen. In boxing any punch can land and knock you out so my feeling is that a fighter like Canelo Alvarez has what it takes to land that perfect punch.

Q
Oscar, I have a question for you regarding this fight. Obviously, Canelo has already said he was going to have no problem making the 152 pound weight, but is there a stipulation if he does come in overweight similar to when Floyd fought Juan Manuel Marquez? He was penalized a monetary amount.

De La Hoya
Well, yeah there is a penalty but, obviously, Canelo is going to have no problem making the weight whatsoever. He made 153 against Austin Trout with no problem, so Canelo is going to have no problem whatsoever.

Q
Okay. And then my other question is from media day, Mayweather told me that he felt that Juan Manuel Marquez has a bigger following than Canelo does, so my question is for Canelo, does he believe that he’s a bigger draw in Mexico now than Marquez was or ever will be?

Canelo
I don’t like to give my opinion on those types of thing. I don’t. I don’t like to talk about that stuff. I know that he knows. I know that he knows the truth so that’s all I can say.

Q
Oscar, would a Canelo win in your opinion where would that rank in terms of Mexican boxing as far as the biggest wins to happen for a Mexican fighter?

De La Hoya
Well, it would definitely rank up top two or three. Mexico has produced a lot of great champions, a lot of great fights, but this fight here in particular, especially in the last 15 years, will be one of the most important victories for all of Mexico.

Q
Canelo, I want to know where do you think that this fight would fall in the pantheon of the great Mexican victories if you win this fight, and what, going in to this fight, do you view as those great victories for Mexican fighters?

Canelo
It would be one of the biggest for the history of Mexico. Salvador Sanchez was a great victory.

Q
You think that Salvador Sanchez and Gomez is the biggest one presently?

Canelo
It’s one of the biggest ones as well.

Q
And is that a fight that you have watched? You’re too young to have seen it live obviously, but did you watch the video of that? What are your memories of the great Mexican victories that you look at as those big ones besides that one?

Canelo
Yes I’ve watched that fight on tape, but you know a good Chavez vs. Taylor or Chavez vs. Camacho was one that got a lot of publicity in Mexico as well.

Q
Do you think a victory here would perhaps surpass any of those?

Canelo
Well, we have to wait and see and let the people decide for that.

Q
Canelo, could you tell us what advantages you believe you have over Mayweather and why you are so confident that you’re going to be the first person to defeat him in the ring?

Canelo
I just feel very confident that I’m going to win. I’m going to have my game plan and I’m going to go in to the fight very, very smart. I can’t really say that I have that many advantages, but I have a very, very good game plan and I’m going to go in there very smart and I know I’m going to win the fight.

Q
Do you think that Mayweather has declined as a fighter in the last few years as he’s gotten older in either speed or power?

Canelo
No, not at all. He’s a fighter that maintains himself very well. He takes care of himself and I still think that he’s at his peak. So, no, not at all. I don’t think that he’s lost anything. I think that he’s still there. He’s still Mayweather.

De La Hoya
All right, this concludes the call. Thank you very much, everybody and we will see you during fight week.

Castillo steals First Lady´s belts at press conference – Sauerland: “Disrespectful

The first meeting between WBA, WBC and WBO Female Welterweight Champion Cecilia Braekhus (22-0, 6 KOs), the pound-for-pound number one, and WBO Light Middleweight Champion Oxandia Castillo (12-0, 9 KOs) came to a dramatic conclusion on Thursday afternoon. While the First Lady was giving interviews after the final press conference, Castillo grabbed the three belts and posed for pictures with them. “They will be mine on Saturday, I will take them home,” she said.

The clash of unbeaten champions at Arena Nord in Frederikshavn, Denmark is just two days away. “She should not have taken my belts, I am not happy about it,” Braekhus said. “I have never seen anyone do that before. Anyway, it´s the closest she will get to them. She will never touch them again. I will defend them on Saturday and take them back home with me.”

When promoter Nisse Sauerland heard about the happenings, he was shocked by the “disrespectful behaviour” of the 18-year-old.

“It is a big insult to take the belts,” Sauerland stated. “You have to earn the belts, you cannot just take them. Oxandia crossed a line and Cecilia will make her pay for it on Saturday night.”

On Saturday, Braekhus can once again be counting on the ferocious support from Norwegian and Danish fans. “The support in Frederikshavn has always been fantastic and we will put on a great fight on Saturday,” she stated. “It´s something special to fight here.”

Castillo is unimpressed by the prospect of entering an arena packed with a hostile crowd. “That´s no problem for me. When I knocked out Hanna Gabriel, I had no support either. I will be at my best on Saturday and win the titles.”

In the Danish main event, WBA Intercontinental Middleweight Champion Patrick (19-0, 9 KOs) Nielsen takes on Patrick Majewski (21-1, 13 KOs). The WBO Intercontinental Title will also be at stake. The Nordic Fight Night will be broadcast live across Scandinavia on the Viasat channels.

Mayweather to earn $41.5 Million for Alvarez bout

floyd-mayweather1
Pound for Pound king Floyd Mayweather will earn a record $41.5 million for his September 14th bout with Canelo Alvarez according to Dan Rafael of espn.com

“Floyd is the biggest star in the sport and the best in the sport, and when you’re the biggest star and you are the best, you get paid the most money,” saidMayweather’s adviser Leonatd Ellerbe told ESPN.com. “So this comes along with the territory.”

“It’s a wonderful thing,” Ellerbe said. “Floyd has put boxing on his back and crossed over. He took a niche sport and went out there and marketed a persona [‘Money’ Mayweather] in the mainstream world and became the highest-paid athlete in sports.

“It’s [truly a] blessing to be in that position to make that kind of money. Floyd has worked hard to put himself in this position. He deserves every penny of it. He’s the only athlete that has dominated his sport for the last 15 years, and now he is fighting the best guy he can possibly fight.”

“Showtime/CBS made it known they wanted to be in that Mayweather business,” Ellerbe said. “These are the things we talked about with Showtime/CBS when he made this deal, and they have really stepped up to make this possible. When we signed this deal and told people we had the biggest deal in sports history, some people said, ‘Yeah, yeah, yeah.’ But we were not kidding.”
