DIBELLA ENTERTAINMENT & SMS PROMOTIONS ANNOUNCE SIGNING OF AMATEUR STANDOUT SHEMUEL PAGAN

New York, NY (8/28/13) – Lou DiBella and Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson and have officially announced the signing of Brooklyn’s former amateur star, and now undefeated professional, Shemuel “The Chosen One” Pagan (2-0, 1KO) to an exclusive co-promotional agreement. Pagan is set to make his promotional debut on the DiBella Entertainment and SMS Promotions-promoted card on September 16, at Resorts World Casino NYC in Jamaica, Queens.

“Shemuel has natural talent. His defensive skills match his offense, which allows him to effectively connect his punches and evade his opponents. We know that he will make it into that elite group of fighters and I’m excited to have the chance to be a part of his legacy,” said 50 Cent.

“Shemuel is a tremendous talent, as evidenced by his five Golden Gloves championships,” said DiBella. “In addition to his great boxing talent, he is also very personable and marketable. With his Puerto Rican and Jewish background, he creates great appeal to a wide variety of boxing fans here in New York City.”

“I am grateful for the talent and strength that God has blessed me with. I feel truly honored and excited to sign with Lou DiBella and 50 Cent’s SMS Promotions,” stated Pagan. “I’ve been working very hard to get to this point. With their eyes all over the world viewing so many great fighters, it’s a privilege to be noticed by these two New York City icons. It’s very humbling to have their recognition. With their guidance and continuous blessings from God, I will be able to represent New York City on a greater level and bring a world championship back to this great city.”

The lightweight Pagan was a blue-chip prospect as an amateur, compiling an impressive 89-19 record and winning nearly every major title and tournament throughout the New York/Northeast Region, as well as earning national accolades. Pagan was also a five-time NY Golden Gloves champion, the first fighter to accomplish that feat since former World Champion and Olympic Gold medalist Mark Breland, who many consider to be one of the greatest fighters in amateur history.

The 25-year-old Pagan successfully made his pro debut in August 2010 with a shutout four-round unanimous decision over Raul Rivera. Pagan followed up that victory with an impressive first- round TKO of Marcos Garcia in early 2011. After the bout with Garcia, Pagan saw his career hit a roadblock as he suffered a minor shoulder injury. After his shoulder fully recovered, Pagan began weighing options from the top promoters in the industry, before deciding on the boxing’s new powerful team of SMS and DBE.

Tickets for the event on September 16 go on sale today and are priced at $125, $85, $65 and $45. Tickets are available for purchase by calling Resorts World Casino NYC at (718) 215-2828 or by visiting: http://www.etix.com/ticket/online/venueSearch.jsp?venue_id=9244

JUNIOR WITTER: “THERE’S DEFINITELY GOING TO BE FIREWORKS” WHEN KID GALAHAD AND JAZZA DICKENS MEET FOR THE BRITISH TITLE ON SEPTEMBER 14TH

London (27 August) Junior Witter has backed Kid Galahad to come out on top in “excellent” and “hard fought” British title showdown with Jazza Dickens.

The former WBC world light welterweight champion, Witter, who trains alongside Galahad (real name Abdul Barry Awad) in the famous Ingle Gym, predicts “fireworks” when the pair clash at the Magna Centre, Rotherham, September 14th live on Channel 5 from 8pm.

“There’s definitely going to be fireworks, Barry can punch hard, so can Jazza and they’re both coming to land the big shots,” Witter said.

“There’s no doubt about it, there’s going to be some real excitement in that fight.”

Kid Galahad, 23, is the unbeaten WBC International super bantamweight champion and is already drawing comparisons to former Ingle Gym fighter Prince Naseem Hamed, but Witter warns he cannot afford to overlook the undefeated English champion, Dickens, 22.

“It’s not an easy fight, it’s not a foregone conclusion – Jazza will be calm and confident, he knows he’s the underdog and he’s coming to win,” Witter said.

“I know the calibre, I’ve seen the skills – he works to a game plan and will have studied Kid Galahad, he’s coming for him and Barry’s got to be on it, there’s no two ways about it.”

Both fighters are highly skilled and highly motivated, with Galahad boasting 14 wins with seven knockouts, to Dickens’ 16 wins with five knockouts and Witter sees the clash of two hungry fighters as a potent mix.

“This fight is an excellent fight – it’s the skills, the moves, the talent – they’ve both got flashy styles, they both can move, they both can bang and it just gels really well,” Witter said.

“Galahad is ready for this fight, he’s training like a demon, he’s on it.

“He isn’t interested in messing about, he’s focussed on being champion and making the next move.

“It’s going to be a great fight – closer than people are expecting, but Barry’s going to come out on top – I just think it’s going to be a really hard fought fight.”

Also supporting Galahad when he fights for the British super bantamweight title at Magna, will be hot middleweight sensation Chris Eubank Jr in his 11th professional contest and current World Youth super-heavyweight champion Hughie Lewis Fury in his ninth outing as a pro, as well as a whole host of local talent on the undercard.

All is Set for “San Diego Fights” this Friday, August 30th!

(San Diego, CA) – All is set for this Friday night’s next installment of “San Diego Fights” brought to “America’s Finest City” San Diego by California state hall of fame promoter Bobby DePhilippis on Friday, August 30th, at the only home for professional boxing in the city, the Four Points by Sheraton hotel in Kearny Mesa. It was announced that the night would be a special one since it would mark the return of San Diego’s favorite fighting female Amaris “Diamond Girl” Quintana (6-1-2, 1KO) was all ready to make her way back to the ring after a more than a year hiatus. Unfortunately a freak accident in which Quintana suffered a cut to her left hand will have to postpone her much awaited comeback to a bit later this year.

Despite the setback, a night of fireworks is still expected when undefeated light welterweight Emmanuel “Renegade” Robles (8-0-1, 3KOs) of San Diego puts his undefeated record on the line against the much more experienced Adolfo “Terror” Landeros (22-32-2, 10KOs) in a six round tilt. The Robles vs Landeros match up will be the second time these two warriors meet. Earlier this year, Robles took a unanimous decision over Landeros in a much closer fight than the scores reflected. The tough Landeros of Mexico City has always been a tough out for anybody including Guy Robb, former champion Jhonatan Romero and Efrain Esquivias among others.

Robles is coming off an impressive knockout win over hard hitting Joshua Marks last April and will look to string up two wins inside the distance against Landeros.

Featured in the semi-main event, 2012 Olympic heavyweight Michael Hunter (1-0, 1KO) of Las Vegas, NV, will step into the ring for the second time as a professional in a true test when he takes on twenty-two fight veteran Francisco Mireles (15-7, 4KOs) of Agua Prieta, Mexico. Hunter, the son of former heavyweight Mike “Bounty Hunter” Hunter, made his pro debut a good one last March when he stopped Chad Davis in the third round. Now he will go in his first sixth rounder against a much more experienced Mireles who is coming a unanimous decision win over Noe Zamora.

In a special attraction featherweight four rounder, local amateur standout Prince “Tiger” Smalls (1-0-1) looks to put his second win in the record books when he takes on first timer Akkeenz Zamani in a scheduled four rounder. After having trouble against Erick Aguirre of Tijuana in his first fight, Smalls has righted the ship and took a shutout unanimous decision against Christian Cartier last month. Now Smalls will look to finish the night early for Zamani in front of his hometown.

Two more fight flesh out the card.

The Four Points by Sheraton Hotel is located at 8110 Aero Drive, San Diego, CA 92123. Doors open at 6:30pm with the first punch thrown at 7:30pm. Tickets are still available at SanDiegoFights.com including VIP tables at 619.420.8866. Food and drinks will be served at the all ages event.

FORMER WORLD CHAMPION SERGIO MORA OFFERS UP SERVICES TO PETER QUILLIN

sergio_mora_image
New York, NY (8/26/13) – With undefeated IBF middleweight champion Peter Quillin still in search of an opponent for his upcoming title defense October 26 in Atlantic City, former WBC junior middleweight champion and current world-rated middleweight contender Sergio Mora says that he would be honored to step in to face the champ.

“Peter Quillin is a really strong, big, and avoided middleweight champion. He is annihilating everyone that he steps in against and because of that, not many people are jumping at the chance to face him. I have never been afraid to face any fighter in my entire career though and the same goes for Peter,” stated Mora.

Mora continued, “His style reminds me a lot of the late great Vernon Forrest, so I would be very familiar with the task at hand and would love the opportunity to take on that challenge. Being able to return to the network where I had the biggest win of my entire career, to take on another highly regarded world champion, would truly be an absolute honor.”

“The Latin Snake” (24-3-2, 7KO’s), the original Contender Champion is coming off a unanimous 10-round decision victory over Grzegorz Proksa on ESPN’s Friday Night Fights on June 28 of this year. Mora is currently rated #7 by the WBA and #14 by the IBF.

The brash and colorful Mora reached the high point of his career when he won the WBC light middleweight championship with a gutsy upset 12-round majority decision over the late great Vernon Forrest in 2008.

Most recently Algieri swept a ten round unanimous decision over former world title challenger Mike Arnaoutis on JULY 20 at The Paramount to improve his record to 17-0-0 (7KO’s).

Now competing in the middleweight and jr middleweight divisions, former world champion Clottey, 36-4-0 (22KO’s), returns to the ring to face Dashon “Fly Boy” Johnson, 14-12-3 (5KO’s), of Escondido, California.

WORLD SERIES OF FIGHTING 5 ADDS THREE PRELIMINARY CONTESTS TO COMPLETE 10-FIGHT LINEUP FOR NATIONALLY TELEVISED AND GLOBALLY STREAMED SEPT. 14 EVENT LIVE FROM THE REVEL HOTEL AND CASINO IN ATLANTIC CITY, NJ

LAS VEGAS (Aug. 26, 2013) – A trio of contests have been added to September’s “World Series of Fighting 5: Arlovski vs. Kyle” lineup, as Rick “The Gladiator” Glenn (13-2-1) meets Artur Rofi (6-0), Ozzy Dugulubgov (4-1) faces Andrew “Ozzy” Osbourne (7-5) and Sidemar “Sideco” Honorio (8-3) takes on Jimmie “El Terror” Rivera (12-1).

With the additions to the evening’s preliminary fight card, the World Series of Fighting 5 lineup now includes 10 total fights.

Tickets for World Series of Fighting 5 are currently on sale at all Ticketmaster locations, Ticketmaster.com and charge-by-phone at (800) 745-3000. A heavyweight slugfest between sambo master Andrei “The Pit Bull” Arlovski (19-10) and slugger Mike “MAK” Kyle (20-9-1) serves as the evening’s main event.

The night’s NBC Sports Network-televised main card also includes previously announced middleweight tournament bouts of David Branch (12-3) vs. Danillo “Indio” Villefort (14-4) and Elvis “The King” Mutapcic (13-2) vs. Jesse “JT Money” Taylor, as well as a heavyweight matchup of Rolles Gracie (8-1) vs. Derrick “Caveman” Mehmen (15-5) and a featherweight contest between Georgi Karakhanyan (21-3-1) and Waylon Lowe (14-4).

An Iowa native, featherweight Glenn now lives in Wisconsin, where he’s a part of Milwaukee’s famed Roufusport MMA Academy. Training since he was a teenager, the 24-year-old prospect opened his career at just 3-2 but has since gone 11 straight fights without a loss. Glenn made his World Series of Fighting debut in March, where he earned a third-round knockout over Alexandre Pimentel.

Glenn now meets New Jersey’s own Rofi, a Team Bittencourt fighter who has earned all six of his career wins by way of stoppage. After opening his career in October 2010 with a knockout win, Rofi has since tapped out five consecutive opponents.

The Russian-born Dugulubgov, now a resident of Hackensack, N.J., fights for a second time under the World Series of Fighting banner. The 24-year-old Renzo Gracie-trained fighter debuted for the promotion in March, earning a unanimous-decision win over Chris Wade.

Dugulubgov faces North Carolina’s Osbourne, who fights out of Angel’s Gym in Fayetteville, in a 160-pound catchweight contest. Fighting professionally since April 2011, Osbourne is 4-1 in his past five contests, with the lone loss in that stretch coming to former Ring of Combat champion Ryan LaFlare.

Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazilian bantamweight Honorio trains at Renzo Gracie Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. After opening his career with seven wins in his first eight appearances, Honorio has struggled in recent bouts with top prospects Aljamain Sterling and Sean Santella but is poised to make a statement against a tough Rivera, who brings an impressive 11-fight win streak to the contest.

Rivera, a Team Tiger Schulmann fighter, hasn’t tasted defeat since 2008. In fact, before turning pro, Rivera compiled an amateur record of 7-0, giving him an incredible 19-1 career mark at all levels of competition. Along the way, Rivera picked up 135-pound belts for highly respected regional promotions King of the Cage and Ring of Combat.

World Series of Fighting 5’s two-and-a-half-hour NBC Sports Network telecast airs live at 9:30 p.m. ET/6:30 p.m. PT. The five-bout preliminary card, which also includes previously announced matchups of Gregor Gracie (7-3) vs. Rich Patishnock (5-1) and Neiman Gracie (0-0) vs. Darren Costa (0-1) streams on World Series of Fighting’s official website, WSOF.com, beginning at 6:30 p.m. ET/3:30 p.m. PT.

Zuhdi KOs Vajda in Second Round of WBU World Title Fight

By employing perhaps the ultimate example of both brains and brawn, World Boxing Union World Lightweight Champion and Oklahoma native Noah Zuhdi (17-1, 13 KOs) successfully defended his title by knocking out challenger Gyula Vajda (12-4, 8 KOs), of Hujdahdhaza, Hungary at 1:09 of the second round at the Lucky Star Casino in Concho, Oklahoma on Saturday, September 24, 2013.
?
The champion was obviously happy, “I am very pleased that I was able to execute the game plan my trainer Dickie Wood and I worked so hard in rehearsing in the weeks leading up to the bout,” Zuhdi said. “I have a great amount of respect for the skills that my opponent possesses and he has the heart of a champion. I am very grateful to all of the wonderful people who continue to support me both inside and outside of the ring.”

Zuhdi, who follows in the footsteps of such former WBU world champion fighters as Thomas Hearns, George Foreman and Mickey Ward, subject of the Academy Award winning film “The Fighter,” has impressed Don “Moose” Lewis, president of the WBU, who was present to sanction the fight. “Oklahoma should be proud of their champion Noah Zuhdi,” he said, “and I look forward to watching this wonderful fighter any time he’s in the ring. He is a world class individual with quick wits, a hard charging style and a lot of heart.”

“Vajda came to take the WBU World Title to Eastern Europe,” catBOX president Bill Zuhdi said. “His only problem was that Noah Zuhdi, one of the hardest hitting lightweights in the world, held the title and wanted to keep it.”

Mark Rodgers, Marketing Director at Lucky Star Casino also was pleased to be part of the championship event. “We congratulate Noah Zuhdi on an impressive successful defense of his championship.”

TYSON FURY TIPS KID GALAHAD TO BE “THE NEXT SUPERSTAR” AND GIVES AN UPDATE ON HIS OWN TRAINING CAMP IN BELGIUM

London (23 August) Tyson Fury believes Kid Galahad has “all the capabilities” to be the “best thing since sliced bread.”

Ahead of Kid Galahad’s British title showdown with English champion Jazza Dickens, the undefeated 6’9” heavyweight sensation took time out from his training camp and tipped Galahad as “the one to watch out for.”

“I think he’s the pick to be the next superstar – he’s got all the capabilities of being the next best thing since sliced bread,” Tyson said.

“To all the world champions: Kid Galahad’s the one to watch out for, it isn’t the likes of Scott Quigg and Frampton, it’s my man Kid Galahad.”

The undefeated Galahad, 23, puts everything on the line when he faces the similarly unbeaten and talented Dickens for the infamous Lonsdale Belt at the Magna Centre, Rotherham, Saturday the 14th of September, live on Channel 5 from 8pm and Tyson believes Kid will show that he is ready for anyone.

“I can tell you what you can expect from Galahad, a very good boxing display, sharp punches, flashy eye-catching combinations, footwork,” Tyson said.

“In my opinion after this fight, he’s ready to take on all the best in the division – I tipped this kid when he was 1 and 0 and he’s now moving on in levels.

“He’s already the WBC International champion and you’ve just got to watch this space and watch what he does to Jazza Dickens on the 14th of September.”

The former British, Commonwealth and Irish heavyweight champion Tyson, now 25, is in Belgium as he prepares for his all British super-fight with former WBA world heavyweight and former undisputed world cruiserweight champion David Haye at the Phones 4U Arena Manchester on September 28th and admits he has the “prefect” camp ahead of his crunch clash.

“Training camp is going really well and I’m enjoying myself – I can feel myself getting fitter, stronger, more muscle, faster, sharper, better thinking – I’m a machine and doing what’s got to be done and I’m just getting on with it,” Tyson said.

“I’m eating everything I should be, I’ve no injuries, we’ve got a good atmosphere, all the guys are in a good mood and spirits are high.

“Everybody’s connecting and it’s a good place to be – it really is the perfect preparation, I couldn’t have asked for any better.”

Anthony Hamilton Retains Title at Highly Thrilling CageSport XXVI

Tacoma, WA (August 25th, 2013) – In a night full of fast paced action at Halquist Productions’ CageSport XXVI, heavyweight champion, Anthony Hamilton, stayed the course ending his fight with Matt Kovacs midway through the first round via TKO. The stoppage followed the pattern of a night that consisted of six first round TKO’s and only one fight going the distance. Hamilton retained his CageSport heavyweight title while further establishing himself as a top heavyweight in the Northwest.

CageSport XXVI featured ten professional MMA bouts that left fans with nothing, but an adrenaline rush and anticipation for CageSport XXVII, set for Saturday, October 5th at the Emerald Queen Casino in Tacoma, WA. Tickets for the next CageSport are available and can be purchased at the Emerald Queen Casino box office and through Ticketmaster.

Much like Hamilton’s last three fights, he wasted no time in pressing the fight as right when the bell sounded he squared up with Kovacs and took him to the ground. It didn’t take long to realize who was leaving the cage victorious as Hamilton immediately took back control and threw a relentless ground n pound attack that Kovacs couldn’t keep up with. At 2:14 into the fight, the referee had seen enough and stepped in to stop the fight giving Hamilton his first successful CageSport title defense while improving his record to 10-2.

In the semi-main event, Spokane’s Josh Rettinghouse advanced his professional record to 9-2 with a convincing victory over Jeff Hatton. The scrappy bantamweights were the only fighters who took their bout the full distance leaving the decision in the judge’s hands. After three rounds, all three judges unanimously scored the fight 30-27 for Rettinghouse.

Exciting undercard news happened as Harrison Bevens (6-1) and Justin Harrington (5-0) both left the Emerald Queen Casino victorious and more importantly, with new contracts. After the semi-main event concluded, it was announced that Bevens and Harrington would meet in the main event of CageSport XXVII in October with the vacant CageSport lightweight title on the line.

Bevens may have had the knockout of the year at CageSport XXVI when he dropped Dave Shepherd cold with a vicious three punch combo that went completely unblocked leaving the packed showroom on their toes and in awe.

Braehmer and Abraham take decision wins in Schwerin, Pulev new IBF mandatory

Juergen Braehmer took another step towards another crack at a world title. On Saturday, the 34-year-old beat Stefano Abatangelo by unanimous decision (119:108, 119:108 and 115:111) in front of a sold-out home crowd at the Sport- und Kongresshalle Schwerin, Germany. “It was difficult to showcase my skills against Abatangelo as he has an awkward style,” said the light heavyweight contender who defended his European as well as his WBO International Title. “Still it was good for me to get some more rounds under my belt which will definitely help me in my next fight.” Braehmer is the mandatory to WBO Champion Sergey Kovalev.

Arthur Abraham had also to work hard to get his hands raised in Schwerin. Before a crowd of 5,600 spectators inside the arena, Abraham got the decision against durable Willbeforce Shihepo to win the WBO Intercontinental Title. The scores read 116:112, 116:113 and 117:111 in favor of the man from Berlin, Germany. This bout also marked the 10-year-anniversary of the former middleweight and super-middleweight champion’s professional career. “Certainly, I can’t be completely satisfied with my performance tonight,” stated Abraham at the post-fight press conference. “But this victory came against a top-10 ranked fighter in Shihepo. My tactics were to box him, not to bang with him.” With the win Abraham, currently ranked at number four by the WBO, hopes to get another crack at a world championship as soon as possible.

Somebody who already secured his chance to fight for a world title in his next fight is Kubrat Pulev. The Bulgarian outlasted Tony Thompson over twelve rounds, beating him comfortably on all three judges’ scorecards (118:110, 117:111 and 116:112). The victory for Pulev means that he will challenge the winner of the upcoming world championship fight between Wladimir Klitschko and Alexander Povetkin. “I still have a lot of work to do as I need to get better for this challenge,” said the 32-year-old, who defended his IBF International Belt against the 41-year-old man from Washington, D.C. “But I’m confident to do so. I don’t care if I have to fight Klitschko or Povetkin next. The most important thing is to win that bout and become world champion!”

Mendez and Usmanee battle to exciting draw Cueller decisions Marrero for WBA Interim Featherweight Title Iron Mike Productions debut event RESULTS FROM TURNING STONE

VERONA, N.Y. (August 23, 2013) – International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior lightweight champion Argenis “La Tormenta” Mendez (21-2-1, 11 KOs) retained his title after battling challenger Arash Usmanee (20-1-1, 10 KOs) to an exciting 12-round majority draw in tonight’s “Tyson Is Back!” event, live on the ESPN Friday Night Fights 2013 season finale, at Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, New York.

“Tyson Is Back!” was promoted by Iron Mike Productions in association with Greg Cohen Productions.

Neither fighter hit the canvas in the main event as the momentum switched back and forth throughout the fight. The crowd was on its collective feet in the second-half of the bout as Mendez displayed superior hand speed and powerful counter punching, while IBF No. 13-rated Usmanee was the aggressor and doggedly determined

“I’m very grateful,” promoter Mike Tyson said about his company’s first promotional event. “We had two sensational championship fights. We got a bad break in the co-feature but it as an exciting fight and good for boxing. I thought my fighter (Mendez) won his fight. It was a sensational fight, good for boxing, but horrible for my boxer. He’s a great boxer. We’d like to get (Roman) Martinez of (Yuriorkis) Gamboa next for him.”

A media poll heavily favored Mendez in scoring.

“I’m really disappointed in the decision,” Mendez remarked. “I’m the champion and I thought I won.”

“It was a very close fight,” Usmanee commented. “It depends on how you judge a fight. I was the aggressor. It could have gone either way.”

In the co-feature, Argentinean Jesus Andres Cueller (23-1, 18 KOs) won a hard fought 12-round decision (116-111, 115-112, 114-113) over previously undefeated Claudio “The Matrix” Marrero (14-1, 11 KOs) in a back-and-forth action fight for the vacant World Boxing Association (WBA) Interim Featherweight Championship.

The Robert Garcia-trained Cueller dropped the 24-year-old Marrero in the sixth round and the seventh was a Round of the Year candidate. “I’m very happy to be champion,” an emotional Cueller said after the fight. “It was a very hard fight. I’ll rest and then go back to train.”

World-rated welterweight Eddie “The Lion” Paredes (34-3-1, 22 KOs) rolled to his12th consecutive victory, winning nine of 10 rounds on all three judges’ scorecards to earn 10-round unanimous decision over Mexican-invader Noe “Platnanito” Bolanos (24-9-1, 16 KOs). Paredes is one of only two 147-pounders rated among the top 15 in the four major governing bodies, as high as No. 3 in the World Boxing Council (WBC) and WBA.

Cuban knockout artist Alexei “The Mexican-Cuban” Collado (17-0, 16 KOs) kept his perfect record intact as he broke-down junior lightweight Guillermo Sanchez (13-10-1, 5 KOs) and finished off the game Puerto-Rican fighter in the fifth round. Collado is rated No. 14 by the WBA and No. 15 by the IBF.

Heavyweight Dorsett Barnwell (10-0, 5 KOs) remained unbeaten, stopping Marlon Hayes (23-13, 11 KOs) in the third round. Undefeated Antoine Douglas (9-0, 6 KOs) won all six rounds against super middleweight Edgar Perez (5-6, 3 KOs) for a win by unanimous decision.

Gonzalez shocks Mares with 1st round stoppage

jhonny-gonzalez
Jhonny Gonzalez scored a shocking 1st round knockout over previously undefeated Abner Mares to recapture the WBC Featherweight title at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

Gonzalez landed a crushing left hook to the jaw that sent Mares sprawling on his back. Mares was clarly hurt but tried to fight back instead of holding until he got caught with another left hook that was followed by a straight right that sent Mares down and the fight was stopped at 2:55 of the opening round.

Gonzalez, 125 lbs of Mexico City is now 55-8 with 47 knockouts. Mares, 125 1/2 lbs of Hawaiian Gardens, CA is now 26-1-1.

“This moment right now is the single greatest and most glorious moment of my life,” said an elated Gonzalez, who reclaimed the 126-pound belt he once held and breathed new life into his career with the win over his former training partner. “When I came to the United States for this fight no one gave me any credit. All they talked about was Mares fighting Santa Cruz. I didn’t say anything but I knew I was getting disrespected.”

“I knew I had him badly hurt after the first knockdown,” Gonzalez said.

“I’m good,” said Mares, who held titles at 118 and 122 pounds before claiming the featherweight belt last May. He was making his eighth consecutive appearance on SHOWTIME. “You have to win and you have to learn how to lose in this sport. I’m not in the sport to remain undefeated, but I’m here to fight the best.

“I was alright with the ref’s decision. He did his job and I respect it. But I thought I could go on,” he added. “Now I’m going to take a break and enjoy my family.”

Leo Santa Cruz became a two division world champion as he stopped Victor Terrazas in round three to win the WBC Super Bantamweight title.

Santa Cruz was effective if not relentless in drubbing the now former champion as he landed some hard shots to the body. The shots started to form bad swelling around the right eye. Santa Cruz came out in round three and landed hard flush punches that sent Terrazas to the canvas from a left hook. Santa Cruz finished the fight as he was all over Terrazas and landed a right that sent the native of Guadalajara, Mexico to a knee. When he got to his feet, Terrazas told referee Lou Moret that he could not see and the fight was stopped at 2:09 of round three.

Santa Cruz, 121 3/4 lbs of Los Angeles is now 25-0-1 with 15 knockouts. Terrazas, 121 lbs is now 37-3-1.

“This is a dream come true,” said Santa Cruz, 25, who had fought 106 fewer rounds in his career than Terrazas, who is 30. “I’ve wanted the green belt my entire life. Once I saw the eye start to swell I knew I had to go after him and put the pressure on him.”

Terrazas said, “The eye was not a problem. This was a good fight. He was tough like I expected. He just caught me. I wanted to continue the fight.”

Antonio Orozco scored a three round beatdown over Ivan Hernandez in a Jr. Welterweight bout.

Not much happened in round one but then Orozco got things rolling in round two as he pounded Hernandez with shots that swelled up the right eye of Hernandez. Orozco wasted no tim in round three as he scored two quick knockdowns from relentless pressure that overwhelmed Hernandez. Orozco landed two more thudding lefts that sent Hernandez down for a third and final time that forced the referee to stop the bout at 1:39 of round three.

Orozco, 141 1/2 lbs of San Diego is now 18-0 with 14 knockouts. Hernandez, 141 1/2 lbs of Barranquilla, COL is now 29-4.

Joseph Diaz Jr. scored 3rd round stoppage over Noel Mendoza in a scheduled six round Bantamweight bout.

Diaz showed a tremendous offensive repertoire as he worked the body and the head with austhority.

Diaz dropped Mendoza twice from hard and furious combinations with the second coming from a hard left – right that forced the referee to stop the bout at 1:54 of round three.

Diaz, 123 lbs of South El Monte, CA is now 8-1 with five knockouts. Mendoza, 121 1/2 lbs of Phoenix, AZ is now 6-3-1.

2012 Olympic Heavyweight Dominic Breazeale scored a fourth round stoppage over Lenroy Thomas.

Thomas came and won the first round as Breazeale used it as a feeling out round. With each round, Breazeale picked up the pace and in ronund three he started working the body. In round four, Breazeale landed a flurry that was finished up with a right to the body that sent Thomas down for referee at 2:29 of round four.

Breazeale, 251 lbs of Alhambra, CA is now 6-0 with all wins coming Early. Thomas, 246 lbs of St. Petersburg, FL is now 16-3.

Hernandez-Harrison Improves to 17-0 With 4th Round Knockout

Dover, Delaware (August 24, 2013)- Washington, D.C. rising welterweight Dusty Hernandez-Harrison kept his unbeaten record intact with an emphatic knockout victory over game veteran Guillermo Valdes (12-5, 3KOs) in the fourth round of Friday night’s contest at Dover Downs Hotel & Casino.

Hernandez-Harrison controlled the contest from the onset showing the ring generalship of a fighter well beyond his 19 years of age. In round two, a double left hook combination, first to the body then a vicious blow to the head, put Valdes down, but he courageously came off the canvas while Hernandez-Harrison patiently continued his boxing skills before sealing the win with the fourth-round knockout. The stoppage came at 45 seconds of the fourth round following a blinding combination along the ropes that had his veteran opponent reeling.

With the win Hernandez-Harrison improved his unblemished record to 17-0 with 10 knockouts. This was his sixth fight of an active 2013.

“I thought he looked good tonight,” said Buddy Harrison, the fighter’s father and trainer. “We wanted an opportunity to showcase his punching skill, power and poise and he displayed that all-around skillset this evening.”

Hernandez-Harrison’s performance was so impressive that he was awarded the Fighter of the Night Trophy, an honor bestowed upon the boxer who not only shows dominance, but the skills of a champion, and as part of Dover Downs Hotel & Casino’s Friday Night Fights Boxing Series.

Hernandez-Harrison’s victory was embraced by hundreds of fans from D.C. who made the 90-mile trip to the fight along with a large contingent of Dover fans who have come to see the young welterweight as one of their own, clearly demonstrated by the roar of the crowd, their enthusiasm throughout the bout, and the deafening cheers he received after the knockout. Following the bout the the gregarious young boxer spent 45 minutes signing autographs and posing for pictures with his adoring fans.

“I’m really happy with the performance I provided for my fans tonight, because without them I wouldn’t be where I am today,” Hernandez-Harrison said. “It’s amazing to be able to come to Dover and still feel like I am fighting back home in D.C.The fans are great and everyone at Dover Downs treated us in a first class manner,” added Dusty.

“The fan support is truly special,” said Jeff Fried of All-In Entertainment, the fighter’s promoter. “Dusty maintains the focus, work ethic and sacrifice that is necessary to succeed to the highest level in any sport, and certainly in boxing. Dusty is passionate about learning and continuing to develop; and we will close out 2013 the way he started, active and working hard towards his goals,” Fried added.

Plans call for the welterweight phenom to return to the ring in the Fall for a bout against a World-ranked fighter and potentially for a Youth World Championship. Hernandez-Harrison is scheduled to fight two more times in 2013 including his first 10-round bout and in front of his hometown Washington, D.C., fans.

Ermano Fegatilli steps back into the ring; gets decision victory

Ermano Fegatilli’s focus was weak, but the win was still in store in store after a flash knockdown in the second round saw Ermano Fegatilli swarm to retain his high ranking in an emphatic eight-round fight with a career the balance.

Fegatilli had to fight hard against the tough Spainyard Michael Escobar on Friday evening. With that said, it was clear that after Fegatilli had hit the deck that it would be him to come back and beat Escobar into a wide decision victory — he was the more talented athlet

Fegatilli had over four opponent changes in the lead-up to this fight; he has also recently scheduled to marry his fiancé in the coming months. This wasn’t the way Ermano wanted to achieve his 28th victory – but a win is a win as the man known as “ll’Dottore” prepares to transcend on world title perimeters.

Still, as far as this Netherlands residing Italian-Belgian is concerned, there are more important things to set sights upon. Ermano Fegatilli will soon be going back for a more intense camp ahead of a possible October bout – which should be announced soon.

In March, Fegatilli scored a shutout decision victory over Frenchman Karim Chakim. Fegatilli’s quick combinations and scintillating body work derailed his hopeless opponent through eight rounds on another “Gents Boksgala” fight card.

In July of last year, Fegatilli mustered up a close defeat to the highly-talented EBU champion Devis Boschiero. Many, many observers felt he won the fight-of-the-year grade encounter – but the judges scored it to the Veneto, Italy native.

Fegatilli has now gone 3-0 in his last three fights and 14-1 in his last fifteen. His auspicious future currently waits affront as he moves forward into a brand new chapter of his life.

Ermano Fegatilli is now just north of his 29th birthday – which took place on August 19th – only four days shy of his bout against Michael Escobar. While fight cancellations and opponent drop-outs have been troubling; he hopes to close this year and open 2014 with as much activity as possible. A substantial fight may be scheduled for January if he claims a “W” in his upcoming fight this October.

Instead of counting his blessings, Ermano will be taking charge with his workmanlike virtue in hopes of reaching his lifelong dream of becoming the first Belgian world champion. Fegatilli, currently recognized as a top twenty boxer at Super Featherweight, may be close to his wish.

Having held the EBU European Super Featherweight strap for a year-and-a-half, he gained much world level recognition and a firm rank amongst the World Boxing Council’s top ten. Fegatilli could be opening up their Super Featherweight tournament in January – pending negotiations. If he wins this tournament; he’ll be mandated to face whoever is the W.B.C. champion at the time — obtaining that ticket is going to be a daunting task, though.

More information will follow up on the matter in the coming months as it becomes known to Ermano Fegatilli and his team. For immediate information, like Ermano “ll’Dottore” Fegatilli on Facebook and follow him on Twitter at @FegatilliErmano.
