DIBELLA ENTERTAINMENT’S HEATHER HARDY TO BE FEATURED ON NEWS 12 TOMORROW AFTERNOON

New York, NY (8/5/13) – Tomorrow afternoon, DiBella Entertainment’s undefeated Heather “The Heat” Hardy (6-0, 1KO) will be featured on News 12, discussing how she spends most of her free time away from boxing working with both the We Care NY and Give a Kid a Dream Foundations. The Brooklynite Hardy last fought on July 24, as part of the DiBella Entertainment and Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson’s SMS Promotions-promoted Broadway Boxing card at Roseland Ballroom. With her colorful and charismatic personality outside of the ring and warrior-like style inside, the former NY Golden Gloves champion is quickly becoming one of the most popular fighters (both male and female) in all of New York City.

“When I first came to Gleasons, Devon (head trainer Devon McCormack) and Bruce (Gleasons’ gym owner Bruce Silverglade) both gave me a chance and helped me start my boxing career during a time when circumstances left me financially unable to pay for my lessons. I am fortunate enough to now have the opportunity to pay it forward, and I’m happy to see the kids we teach doing the same thing,” said Hardy.

The Give a Kid a Dream Foundation is a program set up through Brooklyn’s famed Gleason’s Boxing Gym where Hardy trains. The Foundation, which runs on donations, helps to get inner city kids off of the streets by bringing them into the gym to train at no cost. Many of the kids are recommended to the gym by their guidance counselors, teachers and probation officers.

The We Care NY Foundation was set up to assist communities in Brooklyn and Queens that were hit the hardest by Super Storm Sandy. Hardy’s mother-whom Heather had been living with at the time, since her own home was the victim of a devastating fire-lost her home during the storm that wreaked havoc along much of the North Eastern coast.

For more information on the two charities, please visit their websites below. The News 12 feature will air tomorrow at 3 p.m. ET.

RUSTUM NAGAEV VOWS TO IMPRESS AGAINST HERNANDEZ

NEW JERSEY (August 5, 2013) – Gary Shaw Productions in association with Lucas Oil look to put on a stellar edition of ESPN’s Friday Night Fights, August 9th at the Morongo Casino Resort & Spa in Cabazon, Calif. In action that night, rising lightweight Rustum Nugaev (24-6, 14 KOs) squares off against Jose Hernandez (14-6-1, 6 KOs) in the evening’s main event.

Nugaev is coming off of his two biggest wins in a row and ever since his return to the ring in 2013 he’s looked solid and stayed busy. In his last bout, Nugaev defeated veteran Daniel Attah in impressive fashion. The win was a barometer type victory over an opponent that has been beaten by many top fighters, but his win over Jonathan Maicelo was an impressive upset. That victory put Nugaev’s talent on full display.

The fact that Nugaev is putting himself out there again so quickly with very little downtime in between fights is a main factor in the title implications surrounding him. The kind of run Nugaev has been on is impressive, but he says it is only the beginning.

“I feel great right now, fighters always say these things but I can prove it on August 9th. I feel like for the first time in my career I’m going down the right path at the right time, I always believed in luck being a residue of hard work and my opponent is going to have to deal with both come fight night,” Nugaev said.

His opponent, Jose Hernandez, is coming off an impressive win in his own right, defeating Canadian prospect Tony Luis back in January of 2013 in a fairly significant upset. However, Nugaev knows what he has to do to be successful.

“He’s a worthy opponent and that is how I want it, make no mistake about my desire to fight the best out there. My opponent can feel good about his accolades, but those accolades only make my victory more impressive,” Nugaev said.

With the bout headlining Friday Night Fights, Nugaev is in prime position to become a fan favorite. A highly publicized win on ESPN could give Nugaev the attention he needs to get a major fight.

“ESPN is giving me the opportunity to be seen by more fans than ever before and I’m very appreciative of that. I would never overlook anyone and I know I have to get past this very difficult opponent first, but I have plans. I feel I matchup well with guys like Gamboa, Linares, and Demarco, just to name a few,” Nugaev said.

This is a significant bout in the 135lb division and Gary Shaw knows what a win could do for either fighter, but the fact that they are both crowd pleasing fighters is a bonus that ticket buyers and ESPN viewers will benefit from.

“When you have a style matchup like this you don’t worry about the entertainment factor of the fight, you just sit back and enjoy,” said Shaw. “These guys have had some really impressive outings of late and I know they will both bring in this Friday.”

Tickets priced $35 & $55 are on sale now and can be purchased at the Morongo Casino Box office or by calling the Box office hotline at (951) 755-5391. Tickets are also available by calling Ticketmaster at (800) 745- 3000 or online at ticketmaster.com.

The Morongo Casino Resort and Spa is located at 49500 Seminole Dr, Cabazon, CA, 92230. Doors open at 5:00 p.m , first fight starts at 5:30 p.m. ESPN “Friday Night Fights” telecast begins at 9:00 p.m. ET/6:00 p.m. PT.

Vision drives undefeated Dierry Jean To brink of first world title shot

OTTAWA, Canada (August 4, 2013) – International Boxing Federation (IBF) No. 1-ranked and mandatory light welterweight challenger, undefeated Dierry “Doggy Style” Jean (25-0, 17 KOs) credits a vivid dream for driving him into a boxing career. Years later, Jean finds himself on the brink of his first world title shot against IBF 140-pound champion Lamont “Havoc” Peterson (31-2-1, 16 KOs).

“In that dream,” Jean noted, “I was a very good fighter. Now, I’m following a new dream to be world champion. It’s my time!”

The 31-year-old Jean moved with his family to Canada from Haiti when he was 10. Disinterested in boxing until the experiencing the aforementioned vision when he was 18, Jean went on to become a Canadian National Champion as an amateur, and presently he’s unbeaten in 25 professional fights.

Fighting this past May for the second time outside of Canada as a professional, the Montreal-based boxer dismantled the then IBF No.7 ranked Cleotis “Mookie” Pendarvis (17-3-2) on ShoBox: The Next Generation, live from Buffalo Run Casino in Miami, Oklahoma. Jean overcame a nasty cut over his right eye, suffered in the third round from an unintentional head-butt, rocking Pendarvis in the fourth with an explosive overhand right. Pendarvis somehow managed to beat the count but the IBF title eliminator fight was soon stopped by the referee with Jean unloading a barrage of unanswered punches.

“My last fight was huge for me, enormous, because I knew that it would change my life,” Jean said. “People have been saying ‘Douggy” is next but I needed to prove it. I went to another country and to knockout Pendarvis early in the fight was good.”

Jean, now ranked No. 10 by The Ring Magazine, is the reigning North American Boxing Federation (NABF) and North American Boxing Association (NABA) light welterweight champion.

When Jean challenges Peterson, he will be in the unusual position of not only fighting a world champion coming off a loss, but one who was dropped three times in the process before the action was finally halted in the third round. His fight against powerhouse Lucas Matthysse (33-2) on Showtime Championship Boxing was originally supposed to be contested for Peterson’s IBF belt, however, Matthysee refused to relinquish his Interim World Boxing Council (WBC) belt. A unification bout was disallowed and instead they fought a non-title fight.

“I will take advantage of that (Peterson’s last fight),” Jean said. “He will be weaker. Peterson’s a good fighter. I can’t take anything away from him, but I know I’m a good puncher with 17 knockouts in 25 fights. I’m going out to stop him.

“He doesn’t compare to anybody I’ve ever fought but I know I’m in his class. He can put pressure on and box, but he didn’t use the right strategy in his last fight, and I don’t think he will against me. I don’t think he’ll have any respect for me. He’s going to come after me but I will make him pay. He’ll taste my power and then I’ll knock him out.”

Jean

“Guy Jutras is one of the most knowledgeable people in boxing,” Jean’s promoter Camille Estephan (Eye of the Tiger Management) commented. “After Dierry’s fight with (Ivan) Cano for the NABF and NABA titles (October 26, 2012), Guy said to me that he’d been in the business a long time, as a fighter and judge, and that he’d never seen a more natural fighter than Dierry Jean. He said Dierry was the best pound-for-pound fighter in Canada and one of the best he’d ever seen in over 50 years. For him to say that means a lot and it’s true. Dierry’s talent is non-parallel with anybody in Canada.

“All of the top 140-pounders should take notice. Dierry has been slowed down by a few injuries, which is why he hasn’t been on the big stage. He opened a lot of eyes in America, all of boxing, with his last performance on ShoBox, knocking out Pendarvis. Dierry Jean is bringing a lot of excitement to an already loaded division with the likes of Matthysse, (Danny) Garcia, Peterson, (Amir) Khan, (Mike) Alvarado, (Brandon) Rios and (Zab) Judah.”

Two-time world champion Peterson’s two pro losses have been to world champions, Matthysee and Timothy Bradley; he fought Victor Ortiz to a draw and his more notable victims have been world champions Khan and Kendall Holt.

The IBF will send a letter to the promoters of Peterson (Golden Boy Promotions) and Jean (Eye of the Tiger Management) on September 23, 2013, asking the two parties to negotiate a title fight between the two fighters. If no agreement is reached within one month a purse bid will be held.

“We have been talking with Golden Boy but I don’t know where it’ll go,” Estephan explained. “We’d love to bring the fight to Canada. Jean is the best pound-for-pound fighter in Canada and one of the best in the world. He must prove that, though, by winning a world title. No longer is he one of boxing’s best kept secrets and, after the fight with Peterson, his star will shine brightly all around the boxing world.”

SUPER FLYWEIGHTS ZULINA MUNOZ VS. MARIBEL RAMIREZ TO HEADLINE ON TELEVISA DEPORTES AND FOX DEPORTES THIS SATURDAY, AUGUST 3 FROM TOLUCA, MEXICO

LOS ANGELES, August 2 – The Agustin Millan Gymnasium in Toluca, Mexico will be the scene of one of the most exciting tripleheaders of the summer this Saturday, August 3, as Golden Boy Promotions and Canelo Promotions present three championship bouts on Televisa Deportes and FOX Deportes featuring some of Mexico’s top talent.

In the 10 round main event, Zulina “La Loba” Munoz defends her WBC World Female Super Flyweight Championship in a rematch against fellow Mexico City native Maribel “La Pantera” Ramirez.

Plus, another stellar Mexico City talent, Armando “Cobra” Santos, puts his NABF flyweight title on the line in a 12 round battle against countryman Jorge “Coco” Amador and in the televised 12 round opener, it’s two more proud natives of Mexico City in action, as unbeaten Bruno “Tiburon” Sandoval risks his perfect record against Gustavo Garibay in a USNBC middleweight title fight.

Munoz vs. Ramirez is presented by Golden Boy Promotions and Canelo Promotions and sponsored by Corona. Doors open at 5 p.m. CT and the first fight begins at 6 p.m. CT. The Televisa broadcast will begin at 10:30 p.m. CT in Mexico and FOX Deportes broadcast begins at 10:00 p.m. ET / 7:00 p.m. PT in the United States.

A standout champion from a country producing several world-class female boxers, 25-year-old Zulina Munoz (38-1-2, 25 KO’s) has been in dominant form in recent years, going unbeaten in 24 consecutive fights, a streak stretching back to 2008. Now making the third defense of the title she took against Ramirez in 2012, Munoz is looking for an even more decisive victory this time around.

Tenacious battler Maribel Ramirez (8-5-2, 3 KO’s) came perilously close to snapping Munoz’ win streak and becoming a world champion in 2012, losing by only two points on each of the judges’ scorecards. On Saturday, the 27-year-old known as “La Pantera” gets her shot at redemption in a highly-anticipated rematch.

Nicknamed “Cobra” for his ability to strike from all angles, 25-year-old Armando Santos (11-3, 7 KO’s) has won three straight since a 2011 loss to 20-0 Carlos Cuadras, decisioning Omar Lina and knocking out Edgar Gonzalez and Herald Molina. This weekend, he’ll hope to extend that streak to four.

Mexico City’s Jorge “El Coco” Amador (6-6, 1 KO) is a four year pro looking to get back to his winning ways after a rough three fight stretch. A talented battler willing to box or bang in order to secure victory, the 26-year-old will be fighting as if a world title is on the line against Santos.

Unbeaten Bruno Sandoval (14-0, 12 KO’s) is a shark in the ring, hence his nickname “Tiburon,” and once he gets his opponents in trouble, it’s usually lights out. The WBC USNBC champion since November of 2012, the 22-year-old makes his fourth title defense on Saturday against rugged competitor Gustavo Garibay (8-6, 5 KO’s), an aggressive competitor who always shows up to fight.

Jorgensen injured – Rico Muller to defend IBO Intercontinental Championship against Ramhadani Shauri on August 3rd

Geir Inge Jorgensen from Norway pulled out of his IBO Intercontinental welterwieght Championship bout against Rico Muller scheduled for this Saturday (August 3rd) in Eberswalde, Germany. It is already the second time that the Norwegian cancels a fight against Muller on short notice. Luckily, Muller’s management was prepared this time and has an equally strong opponent for the 25-year-old German i/c champ to replace Jorgensen.

Muller (14-1-1, 10 KOs) will now take on Ramadhani Shauri (16-2, 9 KOs) from Tanzania. „It’s never easy to adjust to last minute changes but I am so fired up that I’m sure that I will get it done“, says Muller. „It feels great to fight in my hometown Eberswalde in front of my family and fans and I will not disappoint them. I’m sure that Shauri is coming to Germany to take the belt from me but I won’t let that happen.“
Shauri’s management had originally reached out to Muller to challenge the IBO interconti champ but was told to wait for his shot. Now that Jorgensen pulled out the chance for the 20-year-old African came faster than expected.
Shauri will arrive in Germany tomorrow (Friday, August 2nd) for the official weigh-in. The show on Saturday will be „Open Air“ at Familiengarten Eberwalde and starts at 17.00h / 5pm local time. There will be nine fights in total including three title bouts. Jennifer Retzke from Berlin is trying to win her second world championship when she is taking on Florence Muthoni from Kenya for the IBO world welterweight championship. Robert Maess and Issa El Sleiman will fight for the German (GBA) welterweight title. And of course, Muller is set to defend his IBO i/c crown against Shauri.
Tickets are still available starting at 20,- Euros. The show will be broadcasted live on www.boxen-heute.tv.

Jonathan Batista: Teddy Atlas is the Reason I am Back in USA This Friday!

Dominican welterweight boxer Jonathan Batista is a brave man.

Not only will he face his toughest opponent to date, former world champion Kermit “El Asesino” Cintron, in this week’s ESPN Friday Night Fights-televised 10-round welterweight co-main event, but he will be also be fighting in the USA for the second time, after having been outright robbed of a victory in his first trip Stateside.

Last April at the Tropicana Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City and live on Friday Night Fights, Batista made his American debut as a fighter by taking on Ghana’s Emmanuel Lartei Lartey and solidly out-boxing his tough foe, only to lose a bizarre unanimous, near shutout, six-round decision. The loss was, at first, a devastating blow to his career… until Batista was later able to watch the broadcast and hear ESPN boxing expert Teddy Atlas’s commentary on the fight.

“After hearing Teddy Atlas’s translation of the commentary, it gave me more confidence in my boxing career. I was robbed and Teddy made that clear for everyone. I was extremely disappointed, but then hearing Teddy, who is very knowledgeable, say that I won the fight, it gave me my confidence back. He is a hero in the Dominican for his honesty. After hearing him, I felt a lot better and that’s why I’m in this tough fight and feeling as though I am still undefeated.”

Batista (14-1, 7 KOs) and Cintron (33-5-2, 28 KOs) will collide this Friday night (August 2) at the Buffalo Run Casino in Miami, Oklahoma, in the chief support bout to the explosive 10-round featherweight main event between former interim WBA Featherweight Champion Javier “El Abejon” Fortuna (22-0, 16 KOs) and former Cuban Olympian Luis “La Estrella” Franco (11-1, 7 KOs).

The night of world-class boxing is being presented by Leon Margules of Warriors Boxing and Sampson Lewkowicz of Sampson Boxing (in association with Tony Holden Productions and the Buffalo Run Casino) and will air live at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN2, ESPN Deportes, broadband Spanish-language ESPN Deportes+ and WatchESPN.

Tickets are priced at: Reserved: $25.00, Premium: $40.00 and Platinum: $60.00 and are available here or by calling The Buffalo Run Box Office (918) 542-7140. On fight night, doors open at 7 pm.

“I believe he’ll be my stepping stone to becoming better-known to the American public,” said Batista of a victory over Cintron. “I still believe he’s dangerous; he was a great fighter, but now is my time and he will get knocked out.”

Batista says he’s had an “amazing” training camp and is ready to begin making a name for himself. And as far as the travesty in Atlantic City… he’s over it, thanks to Teddy Atlas.

“I believe that justice has been done with me and that fight and I have full confidence in the judges in Oklahoma. I’m ready to fight 10 rounds, but I will be there going for the knockout.”

LEGENDARY CHAMPION SUGAR RAY LEONARD TO ATTEND NEVADA BOXING HALL OF FAME GALA

LAS VEGAS, August 1, 2013 – Sugar Ray Leonard, a 1976 Olympic gold medalist who won world titles in five weight classes as one of the great fighters in the 1980s, has announced that he will attend the Nevada Boxing Hall of Fame’s inaugural induction gala on Saturday, Aug. 10 at the Monte Carlo Resort in Las Vegas.

A member of the International Boxing Hall of Fame, Leonard was chosen in the non-Nevada boxer category. He was 36-3-1 with 25 knockouts overall, but was 11-0-1 with eight knockouts in 12 fights in Nevada.

Among those were epic victories over Thomas Hearns, Marvelous Marvin Hagler and Wilfred Benitez, all of whom are, like Leonard, members of the International Boxing Hall of Fame.

Leonard stopped Hearns in the 14th round of a Sept. 16, 1981 welterweight title unification bout at Caesars Palace. After the 12th round, Leonard’s trainer, Angelo Dundee, recognized that Leonard was hopelessly behind.

“You’re blowing it, son,” Dundee said to Leonard. “You’re blowing it.”

Motivated by Dundee, Leonard stopped the previously unbeaten Hearns in the 14th round.

He famously moved up to middleweight in 1987 to challenge the great Hagler. Leonard outboxed Hagler and won a very close split decision to capture the 160-pound belt.

In 1988 at Caesars Palace, Leonard defeated Donnie Lalonde to win both the super middleweight and light heavyweight belts, his fourth and fifth weight class titles.

Other major boxers who have announced they will intend the induction ceremony are former heavyweight champions Mike Tyson and Larry Holmes and former multi-division champions Julio Cesar Chavez and Mike McCallum.

Also expected are legendary referees Mills Lane and Joe Cortez.
They are among 19 inductees in eight categories who will be honored at the much anticipated gala dinner.

The Nevada Boxing Hall of Fame is an IRS 501-c-3 non-profit organization that was founded in 2012 by noted broadcaster Rich Marotta. Tickets for the gala and donations are tax deductible to the extent permitted by law.

Tickets in the $250 category are sold out, but tickets at $150 and $50 are still available. The $150 tickets include dinner, but the $50 tickets do not.

KAREEM HACKETT WORKING HARD FOR ONTARIO DEBUT!

Kareem Hackett’s professional debut is in less than two weeks; but it’s a moment he has anxiously waited for in the 22 years of his life.

The 6’1 Ontario, Canada local is currently going through vigorous preparations to face a to-be-named opponent at the Powerade Center in Brampton on August 10th. After putting in so much gym work and dedicating a large amount of his teenaged-years to his sport – Hackett realizes his life currently rests on this moment.

Starting on August 10th he plans to begin transcending into greatness. Stepping into the famous Champions Boxing Gym in Ontario as only a child – people were already scoping him in as a future player at the top of the sport. After being acquitted to what is expected as a prizefighter, his skills were tweaked and tuned until he landed at the level of readiness he is at now.

While his opponent is currently unnamed; his target it set. His goal is to illustrate every bit of his quick and swift boxing skills to the crowd; he wants each and every fan, promoter, and media member to be illuminated to what he has to offer as a nonpareil 175 pound prospect. The division is hot; but with the two marquee beltholders in the weight class (Bernard Hopkins and Adonis Stevenson) both being decades older than Hackett, there is clearly a space to be filled.

No matter how long it takes him to do so; Kareem Hackett wants to reach the top. He has the physical attributes, the mental strength and consistency, a bright professional career is now just in reach. More information will be announced soon on his first pro fight.

DIBELLA ENTERTAINMENT AND SMS PROMOTIONS BACK WITH ANOTHER SUMMER BROADWAY BOXING

dbe_logo
New York, NY (7/31/13) – On Wednesday, August 14, DiBella Entertainment (DBE) and Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson’s SMS Promotions will return to B.B. King Blues Club and Grill for the latest edition of NYC’s popular Broadway Boxing series. The card will feature a number of DBE’s and SMS’s top up-and-coming talent and New York fan-favorites, as well as a couple of exciting new additions to the DBE roster.

“It means so much to me that I am able to bring the excitement of boxing to New York, my hometown. We have some of the best up-and-coming fighters in the industry and I’m looking forward to showcasing them on the next installment of Broadway Boxing. It’s going to be a great night,” said Jackson.

“Broadway Boxing has become one of the hot tickets in NYC and it will rock B.B. King’s on August 14,” said DiBella. “The Blues Club is a great venue for boxing,” DiBella added, “but tickets and space are limited. You won’t be able to get your tickets at the door, so make sure to order them fast as general admissions have already completely sold out.”

Both New York natives Tor Hamer (20-2, 13KO’s) and Boyd Melson (11-1-1, 4KO’s) will see action on the card in separate eight-round bouts. The heavyweight Hamer will face off against hard-hitting Kertson Manswell (23-7, 17KO’s), while Melson will fight a rematch against Brooklyn’s Jason Thompson (5-6-3, 4KO’s). Melson and Thompson fought to an entertaining six-round draw last year, and with both fighters claiming they were the rightful winner, you can expect them to put it all on the line come August 14.

Hamer went 6-1 in 2012, a year that included winning the Heavyweight Prizefighter Tournament in England. Hamer was positioning himself for a major fight in the heavyweight division before losing to fellow contender and former amateur standout Vyacheslav Glazkov. In the bout against Glazkov, Hamer got off to a good start, before being forced to retire on his stool after the fourth round. It was later discovered that Hamer had been suffering from the flu just days prior to the bout. He returned with a vengeance earlier this year in May with a vicious third-round TKO over Maurenzo Smith and is looking stay busy for the remainder of the year in hopes of working his way back into contention.

Luis Olivares (4-0, 3KO’s) and Donte Strayhorn (2-1), both out of the SMS stable, will also see action on the card in separate four-round bouts.

Making their DBE debuts will be recently signed super middleweight Lennox “2 Sharpe” Allen (16-0-1, 10KO’s), who returns to the ring for the first time in a little over a year, and Florida’s hard-hitting promising lightweight Amos “2 Smooth” Cowart (7-0, 5KO’s). Allen is set to take on an opponent TBA, while Cowart will square off against former NY Golden Gloves Champion Chazz McDowell (6-3, 1KO). Both bouts are scheduled for six rounds.

Additional bouts on the card, including opponents for the above listed fighters will be announced shortly.

The card is promoted by DiBella Entertainment and SMS Promotions and sponsored by SMS Audio, Manfredi Auto Group, Newlio.com, and Everlast. SNY will broadcast the event tape-delayed.

Tickets for the event are priced at $125, $100 and $75. The $55 general admission seats are already completely sold out. Tables are also available for purchase for this event, with VIP Tables going for $1,000 per table (5 seats at $200 per seat), Ringside Tables for $500 (5 seats at $100), and $375 tables (5 seats at $75).
