Biosse retains title in wild reversal of fortune; Chatman upsets Falowo in dynamic co-feature
LINCOLN, R.I. (July 27th, 2013) – No sooner had he wrapped the belt around his waist than Rich Gingras found himself empty-handed Saturday night in one of the wildest finishes in the history of Rhode Island boxing.
Shortly after it was announced Gingras (13-3-1) had dethroned Vladine Biosse (15-2-2) to capture the New England Super Middleweight Title in the main event of Jimmy Burchfield’s Classic Entertainment & Sports’ “Game On” show at Twin River Casino, the Rhode Island Athletic Commission admitted it miscalculated the scores and that the bout had actually been scored a majority draw, allowing Biosse to escape with his title.
Judge Glen Feldman’s score was originally counted as 77-76 in favor of Gingras, which, at the time, gave Gingras a 77-76, 77-75, 76-76 majority decision win. Feldman actually scored the bout 76-76, matching Wayne Lima’s score, resulting in a majority draw.
The fight itself was as good as advertised with both Gingras and Biosse trading blows non-stop for eight rounds. After a slow first round, the action picked up in the second and never waned until the final bell. Gingras was the aggressor for most of the fight, utilizing wide hooks and uppercuts to slow Biosse, while Biosse spent the latter half of the fight with his back to the ropes slugging his way out of trouble. Neither fighter worked to establish his jab, instead punching and counterpunching with sheer force for eight rounds.
The co-feature had its own controversy as Jersey City, N.J., middleweight Chris Chatman (11-2-1) edged hometown favorite Thomas Falowo (10-2) of Pawtucket, R.I., 77-75 on all three scorecards. Similar to the main event, both fighters slugged it out for eight rounds. Chatman started strong as the aggressor, but Falowo fought back and showed incredible stamina by turning the tide in the final three rounds. The difference was a knockdown scored by Chatman in the fourth in which he picked himself off the canvas following a questionable knockdown and caught Falowo on the temple with a wide, left hook. Falowo sputtered backward and crashed to the canvas. Visibly hurt – and upset – Falowo punched canvas before getting back on his feet.
Making his Twin River debut after having just fought eight days ago in New Hampshire, Russell Lamour (5-0) of Portland, Maine dominated Woonsocket, R.I., veteran and fan favorite Joe Gardner (11-7-1), stopping Gardner 38 seconds into the sixth and final round after sending Gardner to the canvas three times.
Lamour scored the first three knockdowns in the closing seconds of the third, fourth and fifth rounds with vicious body shots, and ultimately went to the body again at the start of the sixth to finish Gardner for good. The win was Lamour’s second in eight days – both by knockout – while Gardner lost his second consecutive fight.
Female bantamweight Marcia Agripino (1-0) of Groton, Conn., made a strong impression in her professional debut, sending Brooklyn, N.Y., veteran Vanessa Greco (1-3-3) to the canvas within minutes of the opening round and ultimately coasting to a 40-35, 40-35, 39-36 unanimous decision win. Hartford junior welterweight “Jabbin’” Joe Wilson (1-0) also dominated in his debut Saturday, outworking the tough Saul Almeida (0-3) of Framingham, Mass., to earn the unanimous 40-36 decision on all three scorecards. Also on the undercard, Providence super middleweight KJ Harrison-Lombardi (2-2) remained unbeaten with a 39-37, 40-36, 40-36 unanimous decision win over Boston’s Maceo Crowder (2-2).

The two continued to their high contact bout. Berto started to get the upper hand and dropped Soto Karass with a shot the body in round eleven. Sensing the bout was very close, Soto Karass did not want the judges to figure in the fight and dropped Berto with a short left hook in round twelve. “I think I tore it out of the socket early, maybe the fourth round,” Berto said. “That’s why I kept using my left. I couldn’t really use it at all. At the end of the day I show that warrior spirit every time. I don’t care if I mess up my shoulder. I’m going to put it all on the line.”

The seond half of the fight was more of the same as the the fighters would not give an inch with Figueroa getting the better of each frame. As great as this war was, you never got the sense the at Arakawa could or would hurt Figueroa but that does not take away from this fight of the year candidate.
Figueroa, 135 lbs of Weslaco, TX won bu scores of 119-107, 118-108 and 118-108 and is now 22-0-1. Arakawa, 135 lbs of Tokyo, JP is now 24-3-1
“It’s what I’ve looked forward to since the beginning,” said Figueroa, who complained to his corner that he injured both his hands in the fight. “My respect to this guy. He can take a beating. We both took a beating. The only things that didn’t hold up were my hands.”
“The only thing I can say is Figueroa was very strong,” Arakawa said. “I was thinking about all the people that supported me up to this point to get to this level and that’s what kept me going.

Jersey City, New Jersey’s Patrick “Paddy Boy” Farrell (8-2-1, 4Ko’s) was excited at the opportunity when the main event at Schuetzen Park in North Bergen, New Jersey on Saturday night featuring Juan Rodriguez had to be cancelled due to an injury to his opponent. “Big time boxing is being firmly established in China with a Manny Pacquiao vs. Brandon Rios showdown at The Venetian Macao,” said Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum. “It is fitting that Asia’s most famous fighter will box in a big event in Macao. All fight fans are looking forward to an exciting bout between Manny against super fan-friendly Brandon Rios with his exciting, never quit style.”
“The Clash in Cotai, as we’ve dubbed this historic matchup, is going to be spectacular,” said Edward Tracy, President and Chief Executive Officer, Sands China Ltd. “It’s the latest example of the edge-of-your seat, high-octane event that Sands China is known for. It’s all part of our multi-tiered entertainment strategy of bringing the world’s biggest superstars of sport to Macao to display their skills at these must-see events.”
“Manny Pacquiao versus Brandon Rios is a terrific stylistic matchup that fight fans are going to be enormously excited about,” said Mark Taffet, senior vice president, HBO Pay-Per-View. “In addition to so much being on the line in this fight we have the compelling backstory of the event taking place at a glamorous international destination that will generate even more interest in the fight and establish that Saturday, Nov. 23 is going to be an extraordinary, can’t miss night in boxing history.”
Trained by Hall of Famer Freddie Roach, Pacquiao (54-5-2, 38 KOs), the lone congressional representative from the Sarangani province in the Philippines (he was reelected to a second term, running unopposed this year), is the only fighter to win eight world titles in as many different weight divisions. A three-time Fighter of the Year and the Boxing Writers Association of America’s “Fighter of the Decade,” Pacquiao’s resumé features victories over future Hall of Famers, including Oscar De La Hoya, Ricky Hatton, Marco Antonio Barrera, Erik Morales, Miguel Cotto, Shane Mosley and Juan Manuel Márquez. From 2008 to 2010, five of his seven victories were world title victories in five different weight classes, where he dethroned super featherweight champion Márquez, lightweight champion David Diaz, junior welterweight champion Hatton, welterweight champion Cotto, and he annihilated three-time world champion Antonio Margarito for the vacant super welterweight title. Pacquiao’s seven-year, 15-bout winning streak came to an end on June 9, 2012, when he lost his World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight crown to undefeated WBO junior welterweight champion Timothy Bradley, Jr. via a controversial split decision. That was followed by a knockout loss to professional nemesis Márquez last December 8 — a fight Pacquiao was winning before he got careless trying to close the show and instead was stopped by the knockout punch of the year. No active boxer has sold more live tickets in the U.S. than Pacquiao, who is also credited with over eight million pay-per-view buys.
Rios (31-1-1, 22 KOs), the former World Boxing Association (WBA) lightweight champion, from Oxnard, Calif., is on the hunt for his second world title in as many weight divisions. He enters this fight having won 11 of his previous 14 fights by knockout. One of boxing’s most exciting fighters, Rios is known for his all-action fan-friendly fighting style. His trainer, former International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior lightweight champion and 2012 Trainer of the Year Robert Garcia, calls it a “throwback” style with a warrior’s mentality that screams excitement. Highlight knockout victories on Rios’ resume include Miguel Acosta, Anthony Peterson, Urbano Antillon, John Murray and Mike Alvarado. Alvarado, the natural 140-pounder, entered that fight as the undefeated WBO No. 1 junior welterweight contender. Many consider it 2012’s Fight of the Year. In their exciting rematch, which took place on March 30, Rios lost a close decision for the vacant WBO interim junior welterweight title. It is considered the leading contender for the 2013 Fight of the Year. Rios enters this fight world-rated as the No. 1 contender.

OFFICIAL “FISTS OF GOLD II” NOTEBOOK
MACAU, CHINA (July 26, 2013) – Good Morning Mr. and Mrs. Boxing Fan and all the ships at sea, let’s go to press…
ZOUMANITY. World championship boxing returns to The Venetian Macao’s® CotaiArena™ This Saturday! July 27. HBO 2 will be televising the return of flyweight Zou Shiming (1-0), China’s two-time Olympic gold medalist, making his six-round debut, to the U.S., beginning at 5:30 p.m. ET/PT. Calling the action from ringside will be broadcasting icons Tim Ryan and Larry Merchant and two-time heavyweight champion George Foreman. Trained by Hall of Famer World-Famous Freddie Roach, Shiming will be facing Jesus Ortega (3-1, 2 KOs), of México. The HBO 2-televised card will also feature two world championship fights – WBO/WBA flyweight champion JUAN ESTRADA 22-2, 17 KOs), makes his first defense of the title he won by dethroning Brian Viloria, against undefeated No. 1 contender MILAN MELINDO (28-0, 11 KOs), of the Philippines, and undefeated IBF featherweight champion EVEGNY GRADOVICH (16-0, 8 KOs), of Russia, defends his title against No. 1 contender MAURCIO MUÑOZ (26-3, 12 KOs), of Argentina…
HEAVY DUTY. Undefeated heavyweight contenders ANDY RUIZ of México and JOE HANKS of Los Angeles, who boast a combined record of 40-0 (27 KOs), go mano a mano for 10 rounds for the WBO Inter-Continental heavyweight crown. Their fight will be televised Saturday evening at Midnight ET / 11 p.m. PT as the main event of Solo Boxeo Tecate on UniMás…
RUSSIAN DRESSING. Known as the “Mexican Russian,” Evgeny Gradovich, a native of Russia who trains in Oxnard, Calif. with Trainer of the Year Robert Garcia, is known for wearing a ring uniform that combines the colors of mother Russia and México, complete with a sombrero.
“I have adopted a Méxican style of fighting – aggressive. I know what the fans want to see and I want the fans to like my fights. My favorite fighters are Méxican…Chávez, Márquez, Morales and Barrera. I’ve been taking Spanish lessons so I can speak to my fans. Winning my title has been a blessing. It allowed me to get Green Card and soon I will be able to bring my wife and daughter to the U.S. to live with me. After all, no money, no honey. Muñoz has good experience and is a legitimate No. 1 contender. He can fight. I think he’s a dirty fighter. He throws low blows and punches behind the head. I’ll slip those punches and move around to counter his tactics.”
JUAN FOR THE MONEY. Unified flyweight champion Juan Estrada returns to the the CotaiArena where he defeated Brian Viloria to capture the WBO/WBA titles in April in his first title defense.
“I’ve been sacrificing for my career since I was 15. I come from a small town near Hermosillo, México called Puerto Peñasco and I was the first one from there to win a world title. When I returned after winning the title a lot of my townspeople met me at the airport and gave me a parade in town. I rode around in a fire truck. When I landed, one of the first calls of congratulations came from Juan Manuel Márquez. He told me that his palms were sweating while watching the fight and he was rooting hard for me.
”I was not surprised I beat Viloria. I trained really hard for that fight. I think I beat him because I had better technique and talent, not because of my youth. I’m a proud Méxican fighter. My favorite fighters are Julio César Chávez and Márquez. They inspire me.”
IT’S “CHILD’S PLAY” FOR MUÑOZ. No. 1 IBF flyweight contender Mauricio Muñoz earned his nickname “Chuckie” from his neighborhood pals as a kid. They all thought he had the tenacious style of the demonic doll “Chuckie” from the cult movie classic “Child’s Play.”
“This is a huge opportunity for me. I come from a mining town in Argentina. I used to work in the gold mines to supplement my boxing income. When I fight on Saturday night my town will show it on a big screen in the central community center.
“I don’t know what Gradovich is talking about. I am not a dirty fighter and the referee never admonished me for dirty tactics. I have a lot of respect for Gradovich. He is a good champion. But I am confident in my abilities in this fight. I will be mining for gold when the bell rings to start the fight.”
ORTEGA IS WELL-SEASONED. Jesus Ortega, a stablemate of Estrada’s, is ready for his big test.
“I was selected as Zou’s opponent because everyone thinks I’m going to lose. I’m going to win this fight and don’t be surprised if it’s by knockout. I took this fight because it is on international TV….HBO. I will be very aggressive against Zou and throw a lot of punches. I’m going to win. I’m going to exploit my size advantage. I’m so glad to be here.”
RIVALS. Undefeated No. 1 contender Milan Melindo is glad to be facing Estrada instead of Viloria.
“México and the Philippines have a terrific rivalry in boxing. I’d rather be fighting a Méxican rather than a countryman [Viloria] in my first world title shot. I’m very excited to be fighting in front of Manny Pacquiao. I’m not worried about what Estrada has planned, I’m only concerned about executing my game plan.”
ZOU II. Zou Shiming’s second pro fight is expected to bring a big improvement over his pro debut.
“In my first fight I was very excited. I wanted to please the fans. This time I want to please my trainer Freddie Roach. I had reverted to some bad habits in my April debut but that won’t happen this time. We worked on sitting down more on my punches. I’m going to be more aggressive and not revert back to my amateur habits. I’m enjoying fighting in a pro style. Freddie has me working on the left hook to the body This time I will try to keep my emotions in check I want to live up to everyone’s expectations. Freddie has me believing in myself.”

QUOTES FROM THE CURTIS STEVENS CONFERENCE CALL
Middleweight Curtis “Showtime” Stevens, 24-3, 17 KOs, held a media conference call Thursday to discuss his upcoming 10-round main event against Mexican Saul Roman, 37-9, 31 KOs, on August 3rd. The NABF middleweight championship fight will be nationally televised by NBC Sports Network on the popular Fight Night boxing series.
The telecast begins at 10:30 PM ET, and in addition to Stevens-Roman, includes two other 10-round bouts, Eddie Chambers versus Thabiso Mchunu in a cruiserweight fight and Tomasz Adamek against Dominick Guinn in a heavyweight contest.
Curtis Stevens, trainer Andre Rozier, promoter and Main Events CEO Kathy Duva, and Main Events matchmaker Jolene Mizzone, all spoke and took questions from the press.
“We’re all very excited about this fight,” Kathy Duva said. “Curtis is fabulous because he will absolutely fight anyone at all. So our job as promoters is to build him to the point where when that title opportunity comes, he will be well compensated for it. So August 3rd is going to tell us a lot more. Every fight tells us more about how ready he is. And we have complete 100% confidence that he will get there. But the obstacle right now is Saul Roman. If he doesn’t get past him, all that goes away.”
Jolene Mizzone added, “We have to mold Curtis at 160 pounds to be ready for the Golovkins of the world, the Chavezes, the Quillins, the Geales, all the champions. Roman is a guy who’s going to come straight forward throwing punches, like Golovkin. I’m not comparing the two, but he’s the type of guy that Curtis needs to be able to handle. He needs to be able to handle the pressure. So before he fights a championship fight, he needs to get all that (experience) under his belt. Roman is a guy who has power. Anything could happen. He’s a guy who is going to come straight forward. He’s a guy who had eight weeks of training. He’s a guy who has nothing to lose, and everything to gain. So all of that went into picking him for as an opponent for Curtis.”
“My theory on boxing, especially professional boxing, is there is no overtime in this game,” trainer Andre Rozier said. “The least amount of time spent in the ring extends your longevity. If you can get in and get out, it makes it a little bit better than having a 10-round war. So I prefer for him to get in, do what he has to do, score a knockout and get out as soon as possible. From what I’ve viewed from some of Roman’s fights, he’s a straight forward, come at you type of fighter, and that should play right into Curtis’ hands. He’s going to come right to him. And if it all works out the way it’s supposed to, we should see another Ayala-type performance.”
” I train for the knockout,” Curtis Stevens said. “But if the knockout don’t come, it don’t come. It doesn’t really matter, as long as I get the win. In my eyes, it really shouldn’t take that long. I watched a couple tapes on him (Roman). If he gets hit good, he goes down. But somehow he gets back up and fights. He’s a tough Mexican. But he’s never fought anyone with the power that I have. The way I see it, if I hit him, he’ll go down and not get back up. But if he does get up, I’m a finisher. So it’s over.”
And when asked about his future beyond the Roman fight, Stevens said, “I’m ready right now. If it was up to me, I’d fight a champion right now. But the question is, do they want to give me a shot? I’m high risk. Nobody wants to get in there and get hit by me. If it was up to me, I’d fight Gennady Golovkin because he’s the most feared middleweight. I’m calling him out. People are scared to fight him; I’m asking to fight him. But I just have to wait my turn. I’m anxious to get it, but I have to wait. They are the champions, so I have to hope they will give me my shot.”

Tickets for EFC WARRIOR are priced at: $125, $100, $67 and $46 and are on sale now by calling Ticketmaster at 1-800-736-1420 or online at www.ticketmaster.com, at the EFC website: www.efcmma.com, or at the Trump Taj Mahal box office on fight night.
In the very special co-featured bout, female warriors Jen Lopez (4-1) from AMA Fight Club in Whippany, NJ, and Roya Darvishian (5-2) of Lloyd Irvin MMA in Camp Springs, MD, will fight a rematch to their sensational and unforgettable battle last February (won by Darvishian) and, in the process, will vie for the EFC Women’s Bantamweight Championship.
Also scheduled for title-fight clashes that night are Gabriel Ruiz (3-2) of the EFC Fight Club in Woodland Park, NJ and Jovany Alvarez (4-2) from Modern Martial Arts in Englishtown, NJ, will fight for the EFC Featherweight Championship; and the always exciting Barat Jan (3-0) of Eagle Martial Arts in Boonton, NJ, will take on Andrew Salas (2-1) of Zealous Nation MMA in Middlesex, NJ, for the EFC Middleweight Championship.
“Four title fights in one night, plus so many other great matchups. I’m excited. This is definitely our biggest show yet,” said event co-promoter Hani Darwish. “Chris Vallaro is a star in the making with his personality and toughness. His fights are always exciting and he brings a lot of flair to the cage that fans either love or love to hate. His opponent, Mustafa Khalil, is a beast. In the co-main, we’ve got the female bout, which, like their first fight, is going to be a fight of the year candidate in the New Jersey MMA scene. Both those girls will eventually be stars of the sport and they’re having the rematch everyone wants to see on our show. Every match-up is extremely competitive and solid. I’m very proud to be part of this.”

FORMER HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION MIKE TYSON TO ATTEND NEVADA BOXING HALL OF FAME GALA

LAS VEGAS, July 26, 2013 — Former undisputed heavyweight champion Mike Tyson, who went from reform school to become known as “the baddest man on the planet,” has announced that he will attend the Nevada Boxing Hall of Fame’s inaugural induction gala on Saturday, August 10 at the Monte Carlo Resort in Las Vegas.
A member of the International Boxing Hall of Fame, Tyson is one of three Nevada resident boxers who make up the NVBHOF’s initial class of 19. The others are Mike McCallum, who will attend the ceremony, and the late Diego “Chico” Corrales. Corrales’ wife, Michelle, will accept the award in his memory.
Tyson knocked out Trevor Berbick in the second round at the Las Vegas Hilton on Nov. 22, 1986, to become, at 20, the youngest heavyweight champion in history. “Iron” Mike fought many of his most significant bouts in the Silver State and went 13-2 with nine knockouts in Nevada.
In his legendary career, Tyson was 50-6 with 44 KOs.
“I am truly honored by this induction,” said Tyson, a resident of Henderson, Nev. “It’s an extraordinary feeling to be recognized for my accomplishments by the Nevada Boxing Hall of Fame. It’s very nostalgic at this stage of my life to look back with dignity on my career and how much the state of Nevada has contributed to my legacy.”
McCallum, who is also a member of the International Boxing Hall of Fame, was 6-1 in seven fights in Nevada. The signature win over his career was a devastating, one-punch knockout of Donald Curry at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas in 1987.
McCallum turned pro in Las Vegas, defeating Rigoberto Lopez with a fourth-round knockout in 1981.
Corrales, who died tragically in a motor vehicle accident in 2007, was one of boxing’s top action fighters of the late 1990s and early 2000s. He knocked out Jose Luis Castillo in the 10th around of a lightweight title fight at Mandalay Bay in 2005 that is regarded by many who saw it as one of the greatest bouts in boxing history.
Corrales was knocked down twice in the 10th round of that fight, and seemed to be on the verge of being stopped, when he arose and hit Castillo with a big right that hurt the Mexican star. Corrales, one of the game’s best finishers, put an end to the bout with a brutal display of power punching.
He ended his career with a 40-5 record and 33 knockouts.
Tyson, McCallum and Corrales are among 19 inductees in eight categories who will be honored at the much anticipated gala dinner.
Other notable fighters who plan to attend include ex-heavyweight champion Larry Holmes and former multi-division world champion Julio César Chávez Sr. Both men were chosen in the non-Nevada resident category.
The Nevada Boxing Hall of Fame is an IRS 501-c-3 non-profit organization that was founded in 2012 by noted broadcaster Rich Marotta. Tickets for the gala and donations are tax deductible to the extent permitted by law.
Tickets in the $250 category are sold out, but tickets at $150 and $50 are still available. The $150 tickets include dinner, but the $50 tickets do not.

Brook to battle Sanchenko
According to Dan Raafel of espn.com, Welterweigt contenders Kell Brook and Vyscheslav Sanchenko on October 26th in Sheffield, England.
“It’s a tough task, but I’m very excited,” Brook said. “Anyone who stops Ricky Hatton is a dangerous fighter and one that I will take very seriously, so I can’t wait to get in there and train very hard to put on a good show for my fans in Sheffield. He’s been a world champion, been there and done it, so he will be out to prove that he’s worthy of another crack at being on top of the world.
“I really get up for it when I box in Sheffield. It’ll be packed to the rafters and they are really passionate fans, so I can’t wait to be back in my arena, in a big fight that will take me closer to a world title shot. I’m on the doorstep of a world title, and I’m ready to show I have what it takes to win it.”
“I’m delighted to make this fight and feel it’s the perfect fight for Kell at this time,” said Brook’s promoter Eddie Hearn. “It’s without a doubt his sternest test yet, and Senchenko brings credibility as a former world titleholder and mass appeal [in England] after his KO win over Ricky Hatton. We are going to put on a special show in Sheffield, and the atmosphere will be electric.”
Top Rank signs Olympic star Lomachenko
Top Rank has signed two time Olympic Gold medal winner Vasyl Lomachenko to a promotional contract according to Dan Rafael of espn.com
“The contract is signed, and we are ecstatic about it,” Top Rank vice president Carl Moretti told ESPN.com. “You couple this with our signings of [other top 2012 Olympians] Felix Verdejo, Oscar Valdez and Jose Ramirez and this makes it a grand slam.”
“I am very excited and happy with the Top Rank offer and signing the contract,” Lomachenko said in a statement given to ESPN.com. “I know I will have to prove I am the best and make history in pro boxing, but I have no doubts about it as I did in the amateurs and I will do it as a pro.
“(Top Rank chairman) Bob Arum knows how to build champions and I know how to fight. This will make for a good team. I am happy finally that all negotiations are over and I can concentrate on my training and start preparing for my first fight on Oct. 12.”
“He is one of the most heralded amateurs to go professional in many years,” Top Rank president Todd duBoef told ESPN.com. “He’s one of those guys some people thought might stay amateur because he’s such an icon in his country. But he wanted a professional career and wants to be on the fast track. He wants to go for a 10-round fight and go to a world title fight immediately after that. He has that much confidence in his ability.
“There’s not going to be much development with him. He feels he is fully developed. He’s ready to go.”
Moretti said no opponent has been lined up for Lomachenko’s Oct. 12 fight but said it would be “an established, 10-round, world-ranked fighter.”
As for Lomachenko’s potential, Moretti called it “limitless.”
“It’s almost like he’s already a pro with his experience,” Moretti said. “I don’t think this is your normal pro debut. This is a throwback to the [U.S.] Olympians of 1976 and 1984, when they were fighting established guys in their first few fights, guys like Sugar Ray Leonard, Leon and Michael Spinks, Evander Holyfield, Meldrick Taylor, Pernell Whitaker. This guy has those kind of amateur credentials.
“He looks like he can do it all. He can punch, he can box, he has endurance. I think he can adapt to any style that comes at him, and mentally he’s as strong as any top contender right now.”
“Because of his amateur credentials, he will fight 10-round opponents, and a world title fight could come very, very soon, certainly less than 10 fights,” Moretti said. “I love it. I think he really reminds me of those ’76 and ’84 Olympians, where you are not handpicking opponents but just trying to get top guys to fight him because you know he can handle anything.”
“I want to fight the best in the world,” Lomachenko told the AP.
“He wants to become a pound-for-pound champion,” siad advisor Egis Klimas. “He doesn’t want to be on a long track. He wants to fight for a title soon. If we could get a champion today, we would like to fight the champion today. He wants to make something special.”
